  1. Sigh. What is it with my Vikings and their love of expensive past-their-sell-date players??

I'm really kind of frustrated with their offseason moves to date. The Percy Harvin debacle (at least we got the #23 pick for him), signing Matt Cassel (are you freaking kidding me?) and Greg Jennings (better, but not a straight trade for Harvin), and now they want to go after Brian Urlacher (if they can get him cheap, maybe he's got one season left in him, but I don't see it).

On the positive side, getting Phil Loadholt locked down to a long term deal was critical, and picking up Seth Olsen brings some needed depth to the O-line.

But we're still criminally weak at WR and need defensive help. The Vikes over-performed in 2012, but I'm not convinced free agency has improved the team ahead of the draft.

  2. Perhaps, but what Wallbanger said I said something very similar to my wife. "Look at the way he's talking, he's got blood capsule or something there." She agreed. What Wallbanger said was true, as far as how he was holding his mouth the whole time he was talking... That "fat lip" you thought you saw, was probably the capsule he was trying to hide between gum and lip.

And it's not mutually exclusive that Cena would have a swollen lip from getting tagged and use stage methods to enhance the bloodiness. I think they just wanted to be sure to get the image they wanted in the pull-apart brawl.

In other words, we can all be right. :D

Other than that the only real highlight of the show was the Punk/Jericho angle, though that was somewhat diminished by Henry's verbal botch.

Trying to get back into watching the 'E now that we're post-WM. Newer faces are interesting but no one has really caught my eye yet.

  3. If they were trying to hide it, they did a really poor job.... Having Cena have his head above everyone during the fight, close up with camera on it, every time they could it seemed they got the best possible angle for it... Then later, like 10 or 15 minutes later in the show, he shows up without it being wiped off yet.

I really doubt it was not intentional, to be honest.

If you watch his entrance closely, he's very careful about keeping his jaw muscles taut, particularly on the left side (where Brock tagged him first after the takedown, but never returns to even though he's got plenty of opportunity). Dollars to donuts Cena's got a blood capsule sitting there like a dip of chew; that's why he's not on mike and only says the one line.

Definitely intentional and meant to build up both men - Brock as the dangerous MMA badass and Cena as the man who won't back down even if you knock his teeth down his throat.

  4. OK, so this is just...odd.

As I type I am in the Oakland airport, waiting to get a ride to my parent's house, where I'm staying for the week while I do some project work out here.

So the programmed announcements lady has been repeating over the past half hour. "Zach Miller, Zach Miller, please dial the operator from a white courtesy phone."

After the third time it hits me. Could it be the Raiders' TE?....Nah.

    Maybe??

  5. As for this being the Vikings year, um, I dunno about that. Who's your #1 receiver? Who's your kicker? Who's replacing Pat Williams? Who's replacing Ray Edwards (assuming he signs elsewhere, which is likely)? There's a starting corner missing (Lito's an FA), the offense has holes, and some of the biggest pieces of the defense are missing. Training camps will have started and new signings can't actually participate in camp until next week (the 4th) and a lot of teams (the Vikings among them) still have largely unsettled rosters. I don't think it's safe to say it's anyone's year just yet.

Until the holes Remi mentions are filled (oh, and we need help in the O-Line too), I'm not going to be jumping up and down.

The Vikings' team blog suggests that Michael Jenkins may have an inside track because of his prior relationship with Musgrave in Atlanta. I'm personally not convinced he's an equivalent talent to Rice. Personally, I'd like to see them go after James Jones, if only to piss off Aaron Rodgers.

Ryan Longwell re-signed, so kicker is not an issue.

I think we already have the answer for DE - Brian Robison should be able to step up into Edwards' slot if Edwards leaves. [EDIT: Edwards going to Atlanta, per Jay Glazer @Fox Sports]

The rest, we'll have to see how things shake out. Biggest priorities to me are the WR and DT situation (we released Jimmy Kennedy, so we almost have to go to the market to replace Pat Williams).

  6. Sorry Wallbanger. :(

Sidney Rice is a Seahawk. 5 years, 41 mil, 18.5 guaranteed.

Yeah, and T-Jack as well. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some connection, as I recall they got along fairly well in the locker room, though they weren't on the field together very much.

  7. Hmm, lot of good receivers out there, with a lot of youth as well. You've got Braylon Edwards, Lance Moore, Ocho, TO (midseason), I've read the Panthers would be open to dealing Steve Smith, Plax, I'm sure you can't bring Randy Moss back, OH! And Steve Smith of the Giants! There's a young receiver with good to great upside. I think the Vikings problem is going to be replacing Darrell Bevell more than anything else. With the shortened offseason, they're not going to have time to fully install Musgrave's offense.

All good choices to be sure, not sure how much money they're willing to spend, though.

Musgrave's had background with both West Coast and smashmouth systems, so his schemes shouldn't look to unfamiliar to them, but the early part of the season is going to be shaky, I agree.

  8. If McNabb is willing to take the pay cut, it is indeed a good deal. I do think we'll end up losing Rice which will have us desperate to replace him, otherwise we'll just see Ds stack the box on us all game long again. Who makes sense to go after in a scenario like that?
  9. PWInsider says so

And apparently got it right, as they read it pretty much verbatim on the show. My comment was more a Twitter thing; I really do like Twitter, and it's interesting how WWE is incorporating social media into their narratives -- how many times did Cole say 'trending worldwide on Twitter' through the broadcast?

But yeah, after all this buzz buildup, even with the swerve at the end, I'm finding myself...eh? Rey v. Miz is not something that persuades me to tune in next week.

  10. Cena's twitter: "I have just been 'future endeavored'. Well..if that's how it is I would like to take a moment to publicly apologize to Dwayne 'the Rock Johnson. In an effort to make WM28 as big as possible I tried to expose rock for his flaws. Very childish and immature on my behalf. My comments about the rocks absence were both unprofessional and childish. I am sorry. Rock, I truly wish and still hope in my heart of Hearts that the crazy old man who is the boss reconsiders his totally rash decision. Because chicago was insane last night. And it made me think of what Miami could have been. I guess sometimes u do not know what u have until it is lost."

    :D, yeah right :p

    That's way more than 140 characters. I'm skeptical. :D:p

  11. what is everyones thoughts on the Draft. I know my bengals are most likely to pick a SS, FS, or WR in the first round as they need the most help there than any where else.

With the combine this weekend I think more draft strategies will fall into place. You're starting to see some positioning already, with LT's and Brian Westbrook's releases from SD and Philly respectively.

Any lesser known college folks we should be keeping an eye on?
