  1. January 2025 We send out a few contract offers, planning to cut some chaff once they got signed up. With one exception, the idea behind these offers were to ‘raid’ IPW by bringing in two of their title holders. The new recruit is Rod Remus, while the two IPW title-holders are the returning Zoners Chet Chavez and Jonnie Perez. Revolution 2025 Preshow: Bowden Snoop & Pepper Pelton def. Katie Brook & Gaston Bertrand (43) CZCW Title: Tommy Cornell def. Paradox in a short comedy match (71) Rod Remus & Topher Smith def. AC Sapp & Blood Raven (46) The Hot Taggs def. Bullseye & Onslaught (48) Chet Chavez def. KPB (54) Skye Force (Remmy Skye & G-Force) def. Cash & Sparrow (70) Xtreme Title: Jonnie Perez def. Coco Malloy (61) Tag Titles: McFly’ed Rice def Young&Wasted, The Remnants, and Minnesota Awesome (58) Contendership Match: Max Mayhem def. Kid Fantastic, American Flash, and Maribel Mercado (81) Okay, that’s much better, but still… -that- is the best Tommy’s done for us so far? A ten minute comedy match with Paradox? Okay… new plan. Cornell defends the title in every opening match, so the crowd doesn’t have huge expectations yet, and we finish things off with a high-flying contendership match. That’ll work well, I think. And now, cuts. We decided on a level of stamina that we would require people to be over, and it looked like we were going to cut: Blood Raven, Katie Brook, KPB, and Matt Sparrow… and we were going to tactfully ignore the fact that the only two other people under the cutoff were Sean McFly and Tommy Cornell. Of those cuts, losing KPB really hurt, because he was shaping up to be a good wrestler… just not for very long matches, which we needed. Losing Sparrow hurt for totally different reasons… we loved the guy, but he just wasn’t able to keep up anymore. CWA made an offer to Coco Malloy. She’d be a fool not to take it; we weren’t using her for much right now. NYCW tried to poach Dwight Kumas for their referee corps; we countered. Staff was worth keeping around. And now we were in a bidding war for a referee. MAW put the COTT Title on Kid Fantastic, which made perfect sense to us. Also gave us a reason to have him main event shows without taking the title off Cornell. February 2025 Young Wrestler Of The Year Two Years Running, Roy Rahn, suffered a major concussion and would be out for a year. Looks like the title is up for grabs this year… Masked Cougar II had started up a new company he was calling XWA. He made offers to two-thirds of our announce team, Lee Bambino and Grace Harper. Nothing serious, but it was nice to see someone else thinking we were making good choices. Vendetta 2025 CZCW Title: Tommy Cornell def. Max Mayhem in a submission match (72) Killer Bs (Bullseye & Bowden Snoop) def. Coco & Onslaught (52) Chet Chavez, Jonnie Perez & Rod Remus def. Gaston, Cash & Pepper (60) The Hot Taggs def. The Remnants (52) Tag Titles: McFly’ed Rice def. Minnesota Awesome (65) Paradox def. Topher Smith in a short comedy match (58) Skye Force def. Young & Wasted (74) COTT Title: Kid Fantastic def. American Flash and Maribel Mercado (82) We -almost- got a show into the 80s! Our best show so far! And we’re at 477,000 viewers! Yes, American Flash, you can has pay raise! NYCW put the COTT Tag Titles on The LA Stars. If we weren’t so heavy on tag teams we need to put over, we’d bring them in once and a while… hell, maybe we still will. Coco finally left; which, good for her, hopefully things go well for her in CWA… what? QAW gave her a written contract? Huh. Well, good for them. Hopefully they didn’t start poaching our other women. Next time, on the Coastal Zone: A couple rough months as people come in and lots of people leave.
  2. <p><strong>December 2024</strong></p><p> </p><p> … I suddenly find us wondering if OnDem will throw as big a fit over a cage match as they did over a ladder match. </p><p> </p><p> We try, with Tommy’s help, to make a play for Wolf Hawkins as his contract comes up for renewal. Sadly, we find out that Sean does have -some- limit on what he’ll let us offer people, and it’s not enough to compete with the six-figure offer from USPW. Pity; dreams of a Hawkins/Cornell tag team had flashed before our eyes.</p><p> </p><p> Sean, for his part, gave us some new goals. We couldn’t fall into debt at any point. Not a problem, boss. If I can waste four million dollars… also, in addition to a Reputation of 60 or more, he would no longer accept anyone over the age of 38. Good thing we already locked up Cornell then…</p><p> </p><p><strong> Christmas Cage Chaos 2024</strong></p><p> KPB def. Katie Brook (31)</p><p> Minnesota Awesome & The Hot Taggs def. Profit of three hundred thousand a month, even considering Cornell’s contract -and- no broadcast revenue for December. Size-wize, we had hit a bit of a stalling point; we weren’t growing much in the SouthWest, but the rest of the country (and, slowly, the world) were starting to notice us. ‘Big’ was a long, long way away, but it was a marathon, not a pipe dream.</p><p> </p><p> Oddly enough on the list of ‘popular promotions in the USA’, we listed right behind GSW and IPW. Worldwide, it got worse, as we dropped back to #21 insead of #13, while GSW and IPW stayed the same ranks (12 and 11). We weren’t sure quite how that happened, and we’re pretty sure television had something to do with it. They were going for quantity over quality. Shows in the 50s and low 60s, while we (usually?) turn out low 70s. </p><p> </p><p> Our major stars: Tommy Cornell, Sean McFly, Remmy Skye, Paradox, Max Mayhem, and Kid Fantastic</p><p> </p><p> Our stars: American Flash, Maribel Mercado, Long Grain Rice</p><p> </p><p> Well-known: Blood Raven, KPB, Ricochet Ramone, Young & Wasted (Bret Kyle/Taylor Norton)</p><p> </p><p> Recognizable: AC Sapp, Coco Malloy, G-Force, The Hot Taggs (Kalder & Wolfie), Minnesota Awesome (Clark Smalbone/Perry Longstaff), Malik Cash, Matt Sparrow, Topher Smith</p><p> </p><p> Unimportant: Bowden Snoop, Bullseye, Gaston Bertrand, Jackpot Jordan, Katie Brook, Onslaught, Pepper Pelton</p><p> </p><p> <strong>On the next Coastal Zone:</strong> 2025 already? Some old faces return, and are we having Cornell Remorse already?</p>
  3. Sean would kill me if I offered someone that much money. I tried!
  4. October 2024 So, let’s talk Figurehead. Tommy Cornell vs Remmy Skye. Tommy has more charisma, more popularity, and more star power. Remmy… is amazing at playing the babyface role. And he doesn’t suck at any of the first three things, Tommy just happens to have more than him. So Remmy is staying our figurehead for now. Other than that? Really boring October. … you know, we’ve been having Hardcore Halloween this whole time without hardcore matches… Hardcore Halloween 2024 AC Sapp, G-Force & KPB def. Bowden Snoop, Gaston Bertrand & Pepper Pelton and Bullseye, Coco Malloy & Topher Smith (43) Kid Fantastic def. Blood Raven (64) Minnesota Awesome def. Onslaught & Katie Brook (49) Young & Wasted def. Cash & Sparrow (60) Tag Titles: McFly’ed Rice def. The Hot Taggs (56) Remmy Skye def. Paradox in a short comedy match (70) Xtreme Title: American Flash def. Ricochet Ramone in a hardcore match (68) CZCW Title: Tommy Cornell def. Maribel Mercado & Max Mayhem (70) The locker room was upset at KPB; apparently he botched a move that dislocated Topher Smith’s shoulder. So… we weren’t quite getting the results out of an older, slower Tommy Cornell that we were expecting. But we’d let him run with the title a bit longer, just to see what he could do with it. We’d have to protect him, obviously, and have people stunt-bump their asses off for him… but unless something came up, we’d probably let him keep the title until at least the next Welcome. And the viewing figure test: 414,000. Not enough of a difference to worry about; sorry, WrestleWorld, but the Zone was exclusive to OnDem for now. November 2024 The Taggs ask for pay raises. They get them. We like the Taggs. We need to find a way to strap a rocket to them without ruining the rest of the new kids in the process. Long Grain Rice does too; he gets his as well. This team with Sean has been good for him, I think; Sparrow offers to put one of the kids over; as it’s someone I wanted to push, we’ll do that tonight. Showdown at Sundown 2024 The Hot Taggs & Bowden Snoop def. Pepper Pelton, Katie Brook & Coco Malloy (48) Young & Wasted def. Malik Cash & AC Sapp (62) American Flash & Blood Raven def. Minnesota Awesome (64) Maribel Mercado def. KPB in a short squash (53) Long Grain Rice does his thing again, but stammers and repeats himself at one point; Sean comes out and tells him to stop embarrassing himself (46) Matt Sparrow def. G-Force (53) Tag Titles: McFly’ed Rice def. The Remnants (Ricochet & Jackpot) (55) Kid Fantastic def. Max Mayhem (76) CZCW Title: Tommy Cornell def. Remmy Skye and Paradox (65) … that main event was doing so good until Remmy blew out an eardrum somehow (Maybe we shouldn’t use pyro for ‘explosions’ during crazy bumps), and that pretty much made him crap for the rest of the match. As a result, the show became the first one in a long time to actually cost us some popularity at home. The rest of the country liked it, but the people who know what we’re capable of… well, they know we can do so much better. Blood Raven’s stamina is also giving us second thoughts about him. We were picturing him as our next Xtreme Champion, but he can’t go more than ten minutes without blowing up. He wasn’t the only new signee with this problem, but some we figured could still work on training… he couldn’t. Matt Sparrow walked out on GSW for some reason. I’m guessing they were doing the ‘job out the aging veteran’ thing. We… were considering the same thing, but we could probably still get another year out of him before he became too slow in the ring. Maybe? Maybe not? We had a lot of pay raise requests; all of them deserved, so they were given. We just hoped people didn’t think that the Cornell contract meant that we were made of money… what’s that? The new merchandising is ready? And even with Cornell’s contract, we’re making more money than we were before? … wonder how many other big names we can tempt to join us… On the next Coastal Zone: We wrap up 2024 with another hail-mary signing attempt and another patented Infinity Oopsie.
  5. September 2024 Our WrestleWorld deal is expiring. We’re going to let it and see how much it brings down viewership figures; we suspect people who were watching on WW are going to switch to OnDem, but we don’t know how many we’ll lose in the process. … oh… that’s why he hadn’t worked in a while… his stamina is shot. Well, we paid for him… hopefully nobody minds if he’s not turning out 25-minute classics. Or even 20-minute classics. 15 might even be pushing it… And why is Jackpot Jordan still here? … what? NYCW didn’t give him an exclusive deal, while the other two they stole from us did? No? Handshake? Well… yeah, now I’m sorry I’ve been jobbing him out. Reach For The Sky 2024 PreShow: Kid Fantastic def. Katie Brook, Gaston Bertrand, Jackpot Jordan, and Bowden Snoop (49) AC Sapp & G-Force def. Pepper Pelton & Topher Smith (48) Ricochet Ramone def. Taylor Norton (62) Minnesota Awesome & The Hot Taggs def. Onslaught, Coco, Peter B, and Bullseye (39) Angle: Long Grain Rice comes out and disses Cash & Sparrow for a bit before Sean comes out and tells him he’s early, there’s another match to go before theirs (57) Xtreme Title: American Flash def. KPB, Bret Kyle, and Blood Raven (56) Tag Titles: McFly’ed Rice def. Cash & Sparrow (58) Meriel Mercado def Paradox and Max Mayhem (78) CZCW Title: Remmy Skye LOSES to the debuting… the one… the only… TOMMY CORNELL (71) Not the best show, which makes sense with a lot of unknowns on the card, but let’s face it… the Cornellverse is now the Zoneverse! G-Force had debuted his new ‘Backyarder’ gimmick. Not only did the fans love it, it actually played into the psychology of his matches by explaining why he did things that had no psychology behind them. Which… I dunno, makes an odd sort of sense? Other gimmick changes: Long Grain Rice is now working a “Sean’s Sidekick” gimmick, and Sean himself is now doing a ‘Mid-Life Crisis’ gimmick (which isn’t much better than his ‘Dignified Veteran’ gimmick, but maybe it’ll grow on people?) We tried to give KPB a ‘Street Fighter’ gimmick, but the reaction to it has been horrible and he needs to drop it immediately, never to be mentioned again. Kalder Tag broke a cheekbone during that big tag match; nobody was sure who caused it, but watching the show again later it looked like Peter B botched a move. So, we stopped doing business with him. We had had hopes when we brought him in, but the guy was just not safe and not learning. Now remember: 420,000 viewers. If it goes down a lot next week, we’ll have to get WrestleWorld back on board with us. On the next Coastal Zone: The Cornell Era begins!
  6. July 2024 In unexpected news, CWWF, the Canadian Women’s Wrestling Federation, has a) been formed b) become friendly with us, and c) joined the COTT. Also, it looked like Jackpot Jordan and Skye Hermosa had rejected their job offers. We feel kinda bad about jobbing them out now… In light of this, we release One Man Army, since he’s not really doing much for us besides sitting around backstage complaining about how he used to be somebody. No, wait, there goes Skye. And Jordan still has a week to go before he leaves. Nevermind. Battle On The Beach 2024 Jobber Battle Royal: Topher Smith wins (47) Matt Sparrow & The Hot Taggs def. Coco, Modesty, and Peter B (46) Yong & Wasted def. Minnesota Awesome (60) McFly’ed Rice retains the tag titles over Richochet & Malik Cash (64) American Flash retains the Xtreme Title over Kid Fantastic (70) Remmy Skye retains the CZCW Title over Max Mayhem, Paradox, and Maribel Mercado (81) Remmy has been putting on the best work of his career, I think. And I also realized we weren’t having Long Grain Rice cut promos anymore. That was going to be A Thing(™). But, we now had ‘the new kids’ all introduced and ready to go. We just had to see which of them were stars and which ones were probably going to get mad at my booking. August 2024 Nothing really happened yet this month. Wave Of Fury 2024 PreShow: Bowden Snoop def. Gaston Bertrand and Katie Brook (40) Kid Fantastic, Topher Grace & G-Force def. Bullseye, Peter B & Onslaught (51) Young & Wasted & KPB def. Ricochet, Cash & AC Sapp (59) The Hot Taggs def. Coco & Jackpot (49) Tag Titles: McFly’ed Rice def. Minnesota Awesome (63) Xtreme Title: American Flash def. Matt Sparrow (59) Max Mayhem def. Paradox (75) CZCW Title: Remmy Skye def. Maribel Mercado (74) Annnnd I forgot ‘Long Grain Talks **** About Opponents’ again. Dammit. Well, it’s not like it’ll set the world on fire… yet… So, we currently had three more people on the roster than the bare minimum we needed. But Jackpot was leaving in a couple days, Peter B was angry enough to walk out any day now, and Sparrow was barely able to have decent matches. We needed three more people -- and we were having a serious roster issue at the ‘Star’ level, with only Flash and Kid Fantastic there. OUr first choice is a kid named Pepper Pelton. There’s a crapload of skill there for someone who’s only 24. Our second choice is Blood Raven, a veteran luchador who broke his neck almost two years ago, got dropped from his company, and hasn’t gotten signed by anyone since. And finally… well, that would be ruining the surprise… we’ll just say it’s someone who left USPW earlier this year and got divorced a month afterwards… and in the last three years, he’s had a total of three matches that wouldn’t be good enough to main event a Zone show. Honestly, we’re wondering why he hasn’t wrestled since December. He’s not injured... … and as soon as we make him an offer, competing bids come flying in. SWF, TCW, BHOTWG, 21CW. Huge names. And huge offers. Fifty grand a month. What the hell, we were making over two hundred thousand a month. We could afford to bid with the big boys here. Ninety thousand a year for four years. Thirty grand signing bonus. 50% of his merchandising. And of course, we’d book him the way an icon of his stature deserves to be booked. Remmy might be pissed since he wouldn’t be our figurehead anymore, but hopefully he’ll understand. I mean, after all… it’s -him-. We also go through and tweak a few gimmicks, and add/change a few others. We’ll see how they go. We don’t -need- them, but damn if they aren’t fun when they work. Bidding war update: 21CW dropped out. The others all upped their offers. How deep into the profits were we willing to go here? Well… Cliff wasn’t in charge of the pursestrings, and Sean seemed to understand how big this would be… SWF was in the lead, with $62k/month, but a 20% bonus per event and creative control. We add a 20% bonus per event to our offer, and promise if we ever hire someone for more money, we’ll give him a raise to match. SWF made another offer, but apparently it wasn’t being considered seriously. It was a classic case of money vs fame… and let’s face it, he had fame already. He knew we’d be riding his coattails for the next four years. … and… we got him! Seriously, I am not blowing this out of proportion. This is HUGE. This is, like… remember my very first Welcome to the Coastal Zone where the Zone was the first company in the world to put on Bruce the Giant vs Sam Strong? This is on that level of signing. Next time, on the Coastal Zone: The biggest debut in the history of the Coastal Zone.
  7. <p><strong>June 2024</strong></p><p> </p><p> Oh, look, NYCW was going after The Crippler as well. At least we still had two road agents…</p><p> </p><p> Yeah, I could make counter-offers. But exclusive written deals are expensive… and I don’t want to go from $1,500 a show to $18,000 a month, y’know? I’d only offer that kind of money if a huge name got poached, like Remmy. Or if we went to weekly shows. I guess Juliet was becoming ahuge name, but I’m going to blame the game for not pausing to let me know she had an offer…</p><p> </p><p> ….annnd there goes Modesty Pador to CWA as well. We were now -right- at the line of “You must have this many wrestlers to not look penny-ante”. Or we will be once everyone leaves who’s leaving. Time to go find a few more new faces… </p><p> </p><p> But first, a very important business deal, as we will now be airing events on OnDem as well as WrestleWorld, just to see how the sales numbers go. We immediately run into our first problem with it when we try to book a ladder match, and get complaints. So instead we schedule a regular match with some wild bumps involving ladders. That, they seem okay with. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Surf Slam 2024</strong></p><p> Preshow: Bowden Snoop & Waylon Walls def. Bullseye & Onslaught (43)</p><p> Team Paradox (Paradox, AC Sapp, KPB, and G-Force) def. Team Army (One Man Army, Coco, Katie Brook, and Peter B) (47)</p><p> The Hot Taggs def. Now, if our last show was around 170,000 views, how many would this one have… </p><p> </p><p> …</p><p> </p><p> 413,000. </p><p> </p><p> Well. Holy crud. Plus, we almost tripled our normal broadcast revenue. </p><p> </p><p> We bring on a few more people; before, we looked for hot young talents we could mold. But we were facing a loss of star power, so we needed faces people would recognize. We bring in Taylor Norton and Bret Kyle, “Young & Wasted”, a pretty-boy daredevil tag team that also worked for MAW; Topher ‘The Gopher’ Smith, a Canadian flyer who is quickly coming up on ‘the prime years of his career’ without making it big; and perhaps the biggest name, Kid Fantastic, who also works MAW and PSW. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>On the next Coastal Zone:</strong> The Roster Shakeup isn't done yet! With yet more people leaving, we bring in more names... including one that we can't believe was available. But will we manage to win themover?</p>
  8. May 2024 We start the month with a few cuts. Pablo and Heartbreaker were both obviously performing nowhere near what they used to, and were overpaid as jobbers to learn from. Stan Danzig had a great look and stamina, but the skills just weren’t there and he wasn’t learning fast enough for us. Larry Briscoe was getting better as a brawler, but he was boring as heck to watch. All four were now gone. Which means, we had to bring in some new faces, and we maaaay have gone a bit overboard. Minnesota Awesome (Perry Longstaff and Clark Smallbone) joined the tag division, while our new singles faces included G-Force, the backyarder who’s dedicated to becoming the real thing -- and doing damn good at it; Gaston Betrand, a WWA:Canada graduate who flies like a man with ten times his training; and “Golden Boy” Bowden Snoop, a Canadian kid who is the living embodiment of ‘too good to be true’ -- he flies, wrestles, brawls, cuts promos, and there’s no reason this kid couldn’t be selling out arenas in five years. Or less, if he gets poached from us. We try to talk Fox Mask into coming out of retirement for one last match; he declines. Ah, well. We tried. Welcome to the Coastal Zone 2024 We open with Long Grain Rice on the mic, ranting about Relentless and running his mouth, until Sean comes out and drags him away (62) Bowden Snoop def. But he did it in front of damn near 25,000 people! Skye showed up looking ripped; apparently she’s been working out pretty hard. Maribel felt comfortable enough being here that she took a moment to complain about Bullseye’s selling… or lack of it… Well. ****, ****, ****. Juliet Balconi, our new Xtreme Champ, was being hired away by CWA. Waylon Walls has quit. Skye Hermosa had an offer to go to CWA as well… CLM, Jackpot, and Rob Reynolds all got job offers from NYCW… good thing we just added five new people, because we just lost five, taking out three tag teams and a champion in the process... … and we forgot we had a Memorial show to put on. 9. March 2024 California Love Machine moved to the Northwest. Sean moved to the Mid-South. Either he really trusted me to run things, or he was planning on getting out of the Zone business at some point soon. I wasn’t sure which one I worried about more… Uprising 2024 Jobber Battle Royal: KPB wins (41) Relentless def. BullSkye, California Jackpot, and The Hot Taggs (51) American Flash def. Modesty Pador (56) Juliet Balconi def. Al Coleman (69) McFly’ed Rice retains the Tag Titles over Cash & Sparrow (59) Max Mayhem & Maribel Mercado def. Remmy Skye & Paradox (83) Wow. Yeap, that was the best match we’ve had yet. Fun fact: Of our top ten matches, only one doesn’t feature Max Mayhem. Only three don’t have Remmy Skye. April 2024 … what the… hold on, let me check out training camp settings… uh-huh… and we’re spending how much a month? Uh-huh. And we’re expecting four graduates? Uh-huh. So, tell me… why do we only have one graduate this year???? Do the others all suck for some reason??? Anyway, our single graduate this year is Katie Brook, a decently-flashy flier who’s main qualities are that she looks like what you’d expect a hot female wrestler at the top of her game to look like. Her main drawbacks were a lack of stamina and a problem remembering how to safely perform her high-flying arsenal. We bring her on just to see if we can get her to start working out some and put on more than a five-minute match. Somewhat impressively, Kalder Tagg has been working out to impress us, and now has a more toned physique. Again, not something we care much about, but his dedication is worth noticing. Sean gave us a new goal; Powerhouses were now okay, but we couldn’t hire or re-hire anyone with a Reputation under 60. Right now, we had four names that wouldn’t qualify: AC Sapp, Katie Brook, KPB, and Stan Danzig. One of those we weren’t worried about; the other three, well, hell, they already had contracts. Sort of. Handshakes. Verbal contracts. Worth as much as the paper they were printed on. Spring Break Bash 2024 Preshow: AC Sapp, KPB & Waylon Walls def Pablo, Heartbreaker & Peter B and Danzig, Briscoe & Onslaught (39) American Flash def. Coco and One Man Army (62) The Hot Taggs def. It would only keep her out of action a couple weeks, so she’d be good to go for our plans for Welcome 2024. The rest of the month was a little interesting. Sparrow and AC Sapp both decided to try finding work in Mexico and Japan. American Flash got a serious girlfriend. Good for everyone. On the next Coastal Zone: Our first official 'season finale' show. Place your bets on how many people get signed away right afterwards...
  10. January 2024 Lets get right to the action… Revolution 2024 Pre-show: AC Sapp def. Coco, Peter B, Briscoe, and Onslaught (41) Waylon Walls & KPB def. Remmy Skye for a spot in the main event (72) Max Mayhem retains the CZCW Title in a ladder match against Paradox and Juliet Balconi (75) Okay, we accidentally double-booked Balconi, but it all worked out, I think. We had the boss, teaming with our best up-and-coming prospect, set for a tag team shot; now that this Pro-Am thing was over we now had Relentless back as an option for tag team matches as well. Add in the new BullSkye team, and I think the tag division is starting to look up! We weren’t sure if we wanted to bring in some new blood now, or wait to take a look at the latest Coastal Resort graduating class in a few months. We ultimately decide to wait a little bit… but maybe we’ll look around just in case, since One Man Army was probably leaving soon, and we were getting dangerously close to the ‘Your roster must be this tall to ride Medium Size’ level. February 2024 Okay, we lied. We looked. We’ve found a few good prospects, but what stands out is two tag teams. Minnesota Awesome used to wrestle for IPW, but one left in ‘22, the other left in early ‘23. They haven’t had serious work since; we could probably use them. The other was the brother team of The Hot Taggs. They looked like superstars in the making, but one was more of a brawler while the other was amazingly well-rounded. I guess the question was, do we want a jobber team that’ll learn as they go, or a good team that’ll be contenders as soon as people start recognizing them? Decisions, decisions… I’d hire them both, but we’ve got those recruits to look forward to, and we really don’t want to cut anyone loose… altho there’s one or two we’re considering doing that to anyways… Also, we had a bit of a problem that was becoming more noticeable. Pablo Rodriguez was 48 and nowhere near the man he used to be. When you’re a luchadore but your legs have trouble getting you off the ground, well… Matt Sparrow was 44, and while he wasn’t crashing as fast as Pablo, he was still gliding down softly. One Man Army was 46, and having trouble staying in the ring for more than a few minutes at a time anymore. Heartbreaker was 42 and fell somewhere between Pablo and Sparrow. Sean was 50, and almost down there with Pablo, but it’s not like we could tell him he wasn’t being booked anymore… We had some tough calls to make in the future. Vendetta 2024 Paradox def. Now, were we going to use them to help the teams we had, or actually push these talented gentlemen? MAW upgraded their music, so we followed suit; it wouldn’t do good to fall behind the neighbors, after all. On the next Coastal Zone: Did we waste our money on training? And the calm before the storm...
  11. December 2023 Doing the math, the Pro-Am tournament was in an ugly spot. One team had a win over a team that dropped out after the first round (due to Ellie leaving the company). One had had four matches; three had three; and one had only had two. Did we want to push out the ‘reward’ match to February? Or do something weird this month? The final standings for the Pro-Am: Ricochet Ramone & Modesty Pardor (3-1) Sean McFly & Long Grain Rice (3-1) Matt Sparrow & KPB (2-2 -- we decided the win over Heartbreaker & Ellie didn’t count) One Man Army & AC Sapp (2-2) Pablo Rodriguex & Pete B (0-4) Looks like we were going to need a tie-breaker round… And one week after the show, Aces High walked out on us. We’re currently making twice as much per month as we had in the bank when we started this whole adventure. We’ve been investing heavily in merchandising and in training; the next crop of Resort kids should be pretty impressive. We’ve been giving big thought to three things: Changing broadcasters, since we now have access to OnDem; restarting Coast to Coast as a weekly show, possibly doing a ‘one live, one pre-taped’ schedule; and if we wanted to start doing house shows in non-Southwest territories, to get the word out and to get the kids more on-the-job training. We’ve decided all of these decisions can wait until after Welcome to the Coastal Zone 2024, which we’ve finally gotten around to designating our ‘season finale’. On the next Coastal Zone: After the garbage fire that was 2022, 2023 went really well. We’re actually looking forward to 2024… dammit, I just jinxed it, didn’t I?
  12. October 2023 We renegotiated with WrestleWorld, claiming an extra 5% of our shows’ revenue. This was before we realized we now had another option for broadcasting, but we decided not to mess with a good thing… for now. Maybe after the next Welcome we’ll consider changing. For now, we’ve got plans and stuff. Sean gave me a new goal. “Infinity, man, I’ve been thinking. No Entertainers.” I didn’t point out that we don’t have any on the roster and probably wouldn’t have a reason to hire one. 13. August 2023 Okay, new concept for the rest of the year: The CZCW Pro-Am. Six teams made up of a pro and a (relative) rookie, in a round-robin style tournament. Winner gets a tag title shot in… (does math) January. Your pros: Matt Sparrow, One Man Army, Sean McFly, Pablo Rodriguez, Heartbreaker, and Ricochet Ramone. The fans weren’t really taking to Maribel like I had hoped they would… but this was going to be a long-term thing, so I couldn’t chicken out now. Right? The rest of August was an uneventful month; MAW upgraded to High Quality production values. And if we were going to be doing five-figure-attendence shows, we decided to upgrade the ‘live event experience’ to ‘large’. This put us in the top tier of small companies; none of our rivals could touch us. Even for music and broadcast quality, only RIPW could match us. Zone Domination: Assured. And the budget could handle it, easy. September 2023 Juliet Balconi asked for, and got, a pay raise. So did Reynolds. Ellie de Grazia turned in her notice, which made sense: She wasn’t really getting any traction, and we had Juliet, Modesty, Skye, and now Mercado ahead of her. It did put us down a team in the Pro-Am tho. Reach For The Sky 2023 Aces High & Bullseye def. Onslaught & Waylon (48) Pro-Am: Sean McFly & Long Grain Rice (1-0) def. Ricochet, Modesty, just people wanting to make what they were worth. Nothing wrong with that. Looks like Australia’s in trouble, as both YEPW and DIW have announced they are in debt and not getting out anytime soon. We’ve had our share of problems, but let’s face it: We’re sooo glad that debt isn’t one of them. July 2023 Reasons to pay attention to the news: Halfway through the year, a young lady on CILL’s roster was named a possible Indy Wrestler of the Year. Sooooo welcome the newest member of the Zone, Maribel Mercado. And there’s the official ending of the developmental deal from EILL. We’re going to be about as big as them soon anyway, so it’s no big loss. Would have been nice to actually have someone come from there at some point tho. We give Al Coleman a pay raise, since he’s earned it; Coco sprains her ankle working for QAW but is fine by the end of the month; Jackpot Jordan broke his tailbone working for NYCW and would probably miss Wave of Fury. Annnd those two Aussie companies are still in trouble. ON the next Coastal zone: A new Zone tradition? Maybe. A new Zone milestone? Most definitely.
  16. Well, I'm into 2025 right now. If you're a Long Grain Rice fan, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by what fate has in store for him. May 2023 … Paradox has switched styles… to being a Comedy wrestler… dammit, ‘dox… we were going to use you, too. We can’t put a title on a comedy wrestler, we’re the Coastal Zone... So… he hadn’t gotten any better; Wesley Cooper was quietly told he wouldn’t be booked anymore. He couldn’t even make it through an eight minute match without being exhausted -- and he hadn’t improved any since he came on board. Now if only we could figure out how you actually fire someone in this game… Bored, we try a few new things. Does GSW want to join COTT? Nope. Remmy Skye as a figurehead? Sure, why not, we’ll be keeping him around for as long as we can. Hrm. Larry Brisco is putting on weight. And not in a good way. We’ll see if it hampers his growth or not. 17. <p><strong>April 2023</strong></p><p> </p><p> We bring in a new guy, Leroy Hurst. Guy flies pretty well and can actually wrestle; if we can get him taught more of the basics, he might have a future here. But that name… no. You’re “Long Grain” Rice, a minor rockstar who’s all about the lifestyle, who wrestles because he can’t perform -and- be in the mosh pit at the same time.</p><p> </p><p> We’ve also got this year’s crop of Coastal Resort graduates. Karl Rodriguez, former football player, bit of a brawler, natural powerhouse heel who already has a lot of name recognition. AC Sapp, somehow bigger than Karl but more technically-oriented with great mic skills and charisma. KP Broughton, an astoundingly good technician. Karl gets cut loose; AC and KP get hired on. We see AC spending a year or so in the undercard, much like … well, all the other Coastal Resort people we’ve hired. KP, tho… we give him The Crippler as a manager and team him up with Al Coleman. 18. March 2023 We’ve finished upgrading our merchandise again; in theory, this should lead to quite a bit more income. We were thinking that if it worked out how we planned, we’d sink some more money into the Coastal Resort, and put the rest into savings for possible future production upgrades for when (or if, at this point) we grow. Storm Spillane signed an exclusive deal with OLLIE. We probably could have used him a bit better, but he was always off on tour in Japan. Hopefully he does well in his new home. I just can’t win sometimes. But, hey, we’re back over 100k viewers. We also announce that Max Mayhem is giving up the Xtreme Title for a title shot at Remmy Skye at Welcome. So that’s two big matches we have planned. We’ll probably bring in Jimmy Foxx for a match there, too. Aces, man, stop being so negative about everyone… Hrm. We lost a lot of viewers… we were down below 90k again. Hopefully that’s just a temporary blip. Things seemed hard all around, really. CWA fired Steve DeColt as CEO; it was now being run by Giant Redwood (Where have I heard that before?). WILL lost Soul Taker as head booker, he was replaced by Nic Lopez. And with The Crippler having retired, NYCW put the COTT Title on… Flying Jimmy Foxx. I think I agree with that choice, and may have to have him come home for a few shows. February 2023 Our first week is pretty uneventful. We’ve decided not to hire a replacement for The Crippler, and instead try to let a more home-grown talent try to step up to fill his shoes. 23. September 2022 … okay, we can’t figure out how to end people’s contracts, so we’ll just keep everyone on the roster until they leave. In the meantime, three new contract offers are sent out: Jackpot Jordan returns to the Zone, with Rob Reynolds and Ricochet Ramone joining us for the first time. … this is unexpected. EILL wants us to take developmental workers from them. I… hrm. Let’s see… they used to send developmental workers to CILL, but apparently that relationship has soured and they’re not on good terms anymore. A chance to be tied to the greatest wrestling company in Mexican history? … sure, let’s go for it. If nothing else, we’ll have new jobbers. And in the future, more stars will be able to say they spent time in the Zone. Plus, it’ll let us get around Sean’s ‘No Luchadores’ policy. … well, that sucks. Amy St James giving her notice? We’re okay with that. Air Raid Syren? There goes our last anywhere-near-decent tag team. Luckily we just hired a replacement, but this isn’t how I’d wanted to swap the titles. … and in more bad news, our new owner Sean McFly just divorced his wife Victoria Stone-McFly. Well, just Stone now, I guess. This is huge news for fans of Canadian wrestling. For us… well, we’re now owned by a man having a divorce-induced mid-life crisis. And Al Coleman says he wants to put over Melody Pador. Twice. Well… okay, that’s certainly doable. Reach For The Sky 2022 Pre-show: Jobber Battle Royal. If they’re not on the rest of the card, they’re here. Heartbreak wins (48) Show: The Crippler retains the COTT Title over Pablo Rodriguez (57). Paradox & Jackpot Jordan def. One Man Army & Larry Briscoe (46). Matt Sparrow & CLM def. Aces High & Danzig (45). Modesty Pador def. Al Coleman (50). Relentless (Reynolds & Ramone) defeat Sky Sirens for the CZCW Tag Team Titles (54). Quentin Queen retains the CZCW Title over Sean McFly (70). Max Mayhem wins the Xtreme Title in a ladder match against Remmy and Cash (70). A 70! Two of them! Been a long time since we’ve gotten one of those. Pity we messed up the order of our main events, but hey, we’ll take it! Another jobber gone: Eureka LaBella has decided to move on. ….. And here comes CWA to ruin our fun by hiring away Quentin Queen. Even worse, with Hardcore Halloween’s scheduling, we won’t get another show out of him. Well, there's a title vacated... On the next Coastal Zone: Who's the next 'big name' to leave?
  24. July 2022 Willow decided to hand in her notice. With Melody leaving, that would leave us without managers. Somehow, this didn’t seem like as big a problem as some of the things we’ve had to deal with lately. Battle on the Beach 2022 Ellie, Coco, and Briscoe def. Onslaught & Bullseye & Amy and Peter B & Eureka & Quinn (38). Heartbreaker & Modesty def. Walls & Danzig (31). Juliet Balconi & Sky Sirens def. CLM & Team America (31). Remmy Skye retained the Xtreme Title over Sparrow and Coleman (53). One Man Army, Aces High, and Max Mayhem def. Cash, Rodriguez, and Spillane (49). The Crippler retains the COTT Title over Sean McFly (57). Quentin Queen retains the CZCW Title over Paradox (48). … WHAT DO YOU MEAN, NO ANNOUNCER???? Bambino is right there!!!!! Dammit. For the first time, a show lost us popularity… Another COTT Tag Title change, as OLLIE put the belts on Team Dynasty, who were… Velvet Suarez and Antonia Andres? We could probably work with that. Air Raid Syren and Eureka LaBelle had started dating. I’d have to make sure not to match them up again. And yes, that stinker of a show put us last in the regional battle. August 2022 Juliet left to do another three-month-long cameo appearance. At least she’s getting steady gigs! This is a first… we may be trying to book too many matches, as we’ve hit a point where both our refs are complaining about over-working. So we cancel one of the pre-show matches and begin to wonder if we have too many workers or not enough refs. Wave Of Fury 2022 Pre-Show: Coco & Briscoe def. Danzig & Quinn (36). Show: Modesty Pador def. CLM and Bullseye (36). The Crippler retains the COTT Title over One Man Army (56). Al Coleman def. American Flash (56). Malik Cash def. Storm Spillane (55). Sky Sirens retain the CZCW Tag Titles over International Express (47). Paradox def. Pablo Rodriguez (42). Remmy Skye retains the Xtreme Title over Aces High (57). Quentin Queen retains the CZCW Title over Sean McFly, Matt Sparrow, and Max Mayhem (61). Wow. Lots of bad chemistry notes there. But, at least we were back to raising our popularity. I think I’ve decided on our problem. Too many stars, too many jobbers, not enough in-between. So, I could spend some time trying to elevate our jobbers… or I could fire some of them and bring in new midcarders. Maybe a mixture of both? Hrm… And it turns out there’s one I won’t have to fire; Zel Quinn has turned in his notice. Maybe Cali Slick was right about him… On the next Coastal Zone: A surprise company connection is made, rats begin leaving the sinking ship, and a surprise personal dis-connection is made.
  25. June 2022 “So, tell me. Why would Cliff give you the job of head booker?” I held up a copy of our financial numbers for the last year and a half. “Right. So why should I keep you on?” I lowered the copy of the financial numbers. Then raised them again. “Man of few words, aren’t you? Well, okay. You can keep your job. But I have a few rules. If we shrink, you’re fired. This is the Coastal Zone I grew up watching to see where the fast and agile competition was coming from, so no Powerhouses… and no more hiring people over, say, 42. And one more thing… in addition to buying the company, I’m also investing in it. One hundred thousand, American. I want you to decide where that money goes. And I want to know where before our next show, got it?” “Yessir, -bleeeeeep-, sir. That's easy. The Coastal Resort. Like you said... we're where the competition comes from, so let's amp up the training.” So… our new owner was the legendary -bleeeeep-. If not for The Crippler, he’d be the oldest person on the roster. The question was, could he hold up for the length of time a Zone main event required? … crap, and we need an announcer, too… and it’s too late to hire someone for tonight… it’s time for Grace Harper’s baptism by fire. … and one of our freakin’ road agents is working elsewhere tonight… hey, Boss, you want to fill in there? Great. Thanks. Surf Slam 2022 Pre-Show: Walls & Quinn def. Modesty & Danzig (37). Coco, Bullseye, and Heartbreaker def. Amy, Eureka, and Onslaught (39). Show: New CZCW Owner SEAN MC-FREAKIN-FLY def. Aces High (67). Paradox & Juliet Balcony def. Storm Spillane & Larry Briscoe (50). Max Mayhem def. One Man Army (53). Sky Sirens retain the CZCW Tag Titles over Team America and International Express (45). Remmy Skye retains the Xtreme Title over CLM and Pablo Rodriguez in a ladder match (53). The Crippler retains the COTT Title over Al Coleman in a submission match (52). Quentin Queen becomes the NEW CZCW Champion by defeating Matt Sparrow and Malik Cash (63). Yeap. Sean McFly. Of the Canadian McFlys. And he can still go in the ring. Relatively. I mean, he's not really our style, but still. Worrying: Instead of ‘this show raised our popularity in 18 (or 17) regions, this only raised it in 1 region. We may have gone as far as WrestleWorld can take us… (NOTE: After checking finances a few months later, it appears we managed to not broadcast this show somehow.) CMLL and EMLL have both decided they don’t like us, ending their agreements not to steal workers and adopting ‘a hostile attitude’. Oh, great. Okay, so… we need an announcer and another road agent before the next show… let’s see who’s willing to talk to us… hrm… oh. Oh, that would be good. “Babyface” Lee Bambino is our new play-by-play announcer, and our new Road Agent and second Color Commentator is… … the triumphant, returning Fox Mask! And for more good news, Brittany Hollywood and Storm Spillane are getting married! On the next Coastal Zone: New owner, new announce team, it's like a whole new ballgame. How can we screw this one up?
