It wasn’t a blowaway or anything, but it wasn’t supposed to be. It’ll be up to others to steal the show. Yamada has been higher profile so far in WCW, and she picked up the win here as well. </p><p> </p><p> I wasn’t sure how well Momoe Nakanishi vs. The Beautiful Nightmare would do, but they honestly exceeded my expectations with a match that was well above what the veterans in the opener produced. Arn Anderson worked closely with them to put this match together and I think he did a great job. It was a simple but effective story, with Momoe trying to use her skill to overcome the arrogance of the former Katarina Waters. In the end the “Genius of Pin” caught Nightmare in her Uramomo*Latch to get the win.</p><p> </p><p> Chigusa Nagayo and Akira Hokuto cut pre-taped promos that we cut together for a promo package. Really excellent stuff here to get everyone more excited for the main event, and our team did a great job.</p><p> </p><p> Is Meiko Satomura a future main eventer? I think so, and tonight she backed it up. Having great main event matches with Akira Hokuto is one thing, but tonight she proved she could put together quality with someone not at that level. LuFisto is good but not exactly an upper echelon member of the roster, but Meiko led the way and put together a match that was far better than I expected, and the best on the show to this point. LuFisto had her moments but Meiko is the star, and she put her foe down with the Scorpio Rising kick.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="ZkoqX4B.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ZkoqX4B.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> Nattie and Melissa make for a great team, and I knew they’d bring the fire here. Mita did a pretty good job of keeping up as well, but Ito was the weak link in the chain. She’s not bad and her performance was actually better than several of the others in earlier matches, but it wasn’t at the level of the other three in this match. It was still a borderline great match though. The story here in the ring was Mita and Ito being an effective combination, but Our Generation having the superior teamwork en route to Melissa pinning Ito with a German suplex.</p><p> </p><p> We ran a brief ad for Clash of the Champions next Sunday, centered around the title match between CM Punk and The Unnatural.</p><p> </p><p> I was expecting Manami Toyota and Wesna Busic to compete for match of the night honors, which was why I put them in the semi main event slot over the tag title match. The match turned out very good, and Toyota had the best overall performance of the night to that point, but I might have overestimated Busic a bit. She did okay, but she’s not quite on this level yet and I think it showed. It was a well-built match, but Wesna’s striking offense just looked a little inconsistent. Regardless, the Ocean Cyclone suplex gave Manami the win in her first PPV match since losing her title to Akira Hokuto after a title reign that lasted over a year.</p><p> </p><p> Manami got on the mic after the match and announced to the world that she her peak was far from over, and promised she would win her title back some day. She came across well here.</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/741TrEA.jpg</span></p><p> We’d done a good job of building this match up and getting fans excited about it, but could the veteran Nagayo deliver in a main event spot like this? The answer was yes, but only in a sense. I thought the individual performances of both women were great and this was a hot storyline, but this was a match that was less than the sum of its parts. The slow build was good and the crowd was hot for it, but I think some more effective selling would have elevated this from on the borderline to just plain great. As for the end result, I don’t think many people expected Nagayo to win here and they were right not to. She got in her near falls, but Hokuto was a step ahead of her older challenger in the end and hit the Northern Lights Bomb to retain her title. </p><p> </p><p> Daffney and LuFisto joined Hokuto in the ring after the match, and the champion got on the mic and said that the era of the Darkness was only just beginning, whether anyone liked it or not. Akira did a good job here.</p><p> </p><p> The show ended with a shot of a number of the roster members watching in disapproval on a backstage monitor, teasing that Hokuto had plenty of potential challengers lining up for their shot. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43035" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><strong><span style="color:#FF0000;"><span style="font-size:18px;">Show Summary:</span></span></strong><p> <img alt="2HWjFGL.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/2HWjFGL.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>News Updates:</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43035" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I didn’t have much time to dwell on Revolution, which had been a decent show but below the standard that these Renaissance PPVs usually reach. No time to worry about that now though; I had to get on our private company plane and fly straight back to Australia in time for Nitro.<p> </p><p> As I waited for takeoff, my cell phone buzzed. No surprise there; I’d been getting calls and texts throughout the day, and several people had verbally committed to our contract offers. </p><p> </p><p> “Hitman, what’s up dude?” Ah, RVD. I’d been expecting this call.</p><p> </p><p> “Hey Rob. You call me with good news, or are we going to need to make a counteroffer?” I knew WWE and New Japan were both talking with our reigning US champion, but based on the numbers I’d heard I didn’t anticipate any problems there. I assumed we’d probably need to up our offer slightly though.</p><p> </p><p> “Well, I haven’t heard back from Inoki, so I guess New Japan’s out,” RVD admitted. One down. “I did get a new offer from Vince though.”</p><p> </p><p> “That’s fine,” I said. “Just quote your new asking price and I’ll see what we can do.”</p><p> </p><p> RVD cleared his throat and gave me a number, and I very nearly dropped my phone in shock. </p><p> </p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> During the show, Devil Masami signed her one year extension and Alexis Laree agreed to a three year deal. I also got word that my nephew Teddy signed his own three year extension.</p><p> </p><p> The multipromotional bidding war over the Jung Dragons is nearing an end. Jimmy Yang let me know what his intentions are, but Kaz Hayashi has still yet to make a decision. </p><p> </p><p> Our people in 5SSW seem to think it’s time for Madison Eagles to become a full-timer on Renaissance, so it’s time to start thinking about ways to utilize her.</p><p> </p><p> WCW Worldwide will officially be returning to the air this coming week, serving as a B level show where we’ll get the younger guys and the midcarders some more ring time and recap the major storylines from Nitro. It’ll air on Sunday evenings. Normally it’ll be taped before Nitro, but the return episode will air live right before Clash of the Champions. That’s probably what we’ll do going forward; taped before Nitro on normal weeks, and acting as live “pre shows” on PPV weekends. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Elsewhere in the wrestling world:</span></p><p> </p><p> WWE re-signed Dean Malenko, Val Venis and both Dudley Boys.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <hr noshade size=3></p><p> </p><p> My pace hasn’t slowed, despite what it might seem like. Since my new format allows me to run and ‘write’ a PPV in one sitting, I actually went ahead and progressed through the next week’s worth of stuff before posting this in order to give more time for predictions. I think that’s what I’ll continue to do going forward with PPVs, otherwise it might only be a day or two between the predictions going up and the show being posted. And bonus, it means you should see the post for next week go up tomorrow.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="smartman" data-cite="smartman" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43035" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Interesting to see all that massive work you've put into building Japan up is coming to bite you in the butt with all the Japanese companies coming to pillage all your guys. Glad you're back to doing this for however long it lasts. You're an icon in the diaries section, and just like Phantom Stranger will be missed greatly when you do pull the plug.<p> </p><p> And given the UI catastrophe, I'm likely not buying 2020 either so I'll be enjoying 2016 right along with you.</p></div></blockquote><p> Thanks for the kind words! I always enjoy seeing you pop in and share your thoughts. I won’t be discussing 2020 too much (or at all really) in this thread, but yeah, I don’t see myself picking it up. That’s good news for anyone enjoying this though, because it means this diary should hopefully have considerable legs left.</p><p> </p><p> I’m not going to lie; I’m having a blast with all the bidding wars going on right now. Even more stuff has transpired over the following week, and I don’t think the game world has ever felt more interesting.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Ry guy 64" data-cite="Ry guy 64" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43035" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Does anyone have video game rights to your company?</div></blockquote><p> Yes. Your 2 best matches get counted as the semi-main and main event, thus putting a cooldown match to go on next-to-last is a viable thing.</div></blockquote><p> This is true, though it seems to me that you wouldn’t want a match using the actual ‘calm the crowd’ note in the semi-main event, since you’d then have to build them back up before the main event. I can definitely see the argument for putting a match that isn’t necessarily your second biggest in that spot though.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="GingeyOne" data-cite="GingeyOne" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43035" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><p> </p><p> General comments: Crazy how Inoki is running NJPW and trying to bid on everyone, does he get the ratings to justify all of this? How is Steve Austin doing over there?</p></div></blockquote><p> He might be able to get those ratings if the AI booking was smart enough to make Austin the centerpiece of their show, but as long as 52 year old Riki Choshu is headlining they’re going to be held back. You’ll see a great example of that next week.</p>

I’d flown in to Japan shortly after this week’s Nitro to set up for our Renaissance-branded Revolution PPV on Sunday, and my sleeping schedule was all messed up. I shook myself to alertness as I heard the hotel room phone go off though. I’d only given one person this number, and my assistant knew to only call me for one very specific reason beyond something serious.<p> </p><p> “Hello?” I said, fumbling to turn the light on.</p><p> </p><p> “Hey Bret. Your assistant gave me this number. Hope I’m not bothering you.”</p><p> </p><p> “You can call me anytime,” I said quickly. I woke up quickly when I heard the voice on the other end. “So since you called me back, I’m assuming you’re willing to consider coming back to WCW?”</p><p> </p><p> “Of course,” he said. “Making it to the WWF was always my dream, but that doesn’t mean I’d never consider leaving if I got a good offer. Especially with how well you’ve done in turning WCW around; it’s like a different world compared to when I was left.”</p><p> </p><p> “Yes it is,” I agreed. “And we’d love to have you in it. You’re as good as it gets in the ring and on the mic, you’re a big time star, and best of all, you’re a Canadian!” He laughed at that, but I got serious quickly. “So what’s it going to take to bring you back?”</p><p> </p><p> “Hard to say,” he said. “Obviously Vince has already made me a nice offer, but Inoki has reached out to try and bring me into New Japan too.” Of course he had. Inoki is trying to sign EVERYBODY.</p><p> </p><p> “Well, I’m sure we can make you a competitive offer,” I said. “Let’s talk numbers, Chris.” </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> A bunch of our contracts are about to run out, and New Japan jumped in to aggressively pursue several of our guys. They made overtures to Shane Douglas and even The Unnatural, but were rebuffed and gave up on those negotiations pretty quickly. They’re more serious players for Jamie Knoble and both Kaz Hayashi and Yang of The Jung Dragons though. And then All Japan got in on the bidding for Hayashi and Yang, which will only drive their prices up higher. NOAH even got in on talks for Yang, who I guess they would bring in as a singles guy if they got him. I’ll have to seriously evaluate the amount of money it will take to try and retain both these three and others. Financially we are doing very well, but we don’t want to let our budget get out of hand. I’ve already resolved to let several of our mid and lower card guys walk, but we may wind up losing more talent than I thought we would.</p><p> </p><p> Later in the week when I was in Japan, I got word that WWE and NJPW were both coming after Rob Van Dam. No way; not happening.</p><p> </p><p> Several signings and re-signings have already been agreed to: </p><p> </p><p> -Dustin Rhodes signed a 2 year extension. Keeping him was obviously a top priority, and that was made easier when WWE didn’t even make him an offer.</p><p> </p><p> -Randy Savage officially converted his pay per appearance deal for limited dates into a full-time contract.</p><p> </p><p> -We brought in Don Callis and WWE Diva Search reject Maria Kanellis. The plan there is for Callis to work as the color commentator alongside Tony Schiavone on WCW Worldwide, which will be returning to the air imminently as our B show. Maria will probably appear either on that show or on Renaissance as the backstage interviewer, filling the role Becky Bayless does on Nitro and the PPVs. These two and Tony will also probably serve as the regulars on the WCW Panel, a roundtable discussion thing we’re going to start doing on PPVs.</p><p> </p><p> -Reno is signed to a 2 year extension. After all that time in development it feels like a waste to not give him another try on the main roster, though I’m not sure where he’ll slot in yet.</p><p> </p><p> -When I went to negotiate with Scott Steiner he not only demanded a strong salary but made all sorts of demands about wanting a lighter schedule. He even asked for creative control, something no one in the company has and no one is going to get. Not sure why a guy who is currently in rehab thinks he has so much leverage, but I’m strongly considering allowing his contract to run out.</p><p> </p><p> -Chris Harris, James Storm, Charles Robinson, Johnny Parisi and Mike Tenay all signed multiyear extensions, and Aja Kong, Buff Bagwell, Konnan and Shane Douglas are sticking around at least for one more year.</p><p> </p><p> -We’re bringing in Dusty’s kid, Cody Rhodes. He’s a good looking guy who was a two-time Georgia state champion amateur wrestler, and let’s face it, he’s the American Dream’s kid and the younger brother of our reigning world champion, so there’s no way we weren’t giving him a shot. He’ll report to Wildside for a while for training, so we’ll see how he progresses.</p><p> </p><p> Aside from the big move to NBC for Nitro, we extended our prime time deals with Seven Network Australia and ITV and signed an extension with Televisa that saw us move into a prime time spot.</p><p> </p><p> Daisuke Sekimoto had improved about as much as he could in developmental, so we brought him up to the main roster.</p><p> </p><p> Kanyon and Daffney have been hanging out a lot recently (just as friends though, from what I hear.)</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Elsewhere in the wrestling world:</span></p><p> </p><p> WWE re-signed Triple H, so I guess he and the McMahons are willing to continue working together even after the breakup with Stephanie. Maybe he realized that he had no other options, because there was no way I would have signed that jerk.</p><p> </p><p> Scott Hall and X-Pac both embarrassed themselves by wrestling while impaired at Mania. In the case of Waltman it was “just” drugs, while Hall threw in drunkenness on top of it. What a way to respond to having been put over Kurt Angle one month earlier for one of the company’s top titles. They were both sent to rehab, and Hall was also hit with a fine (amusingly, his buddy Shawn was apparently angry about the fine.) Good thing they took the ECW title off of Hall and put it on Kane.</p><p> </p><p> Speaking of the Boy Toy, some of my friends there told me he’s been working to try and turn the locker room against The Rock. Hey, sounds good to me. Drive him out, send him to me and the two of us will put you out of business. </p><p> </p><p> WWE seems poised to gut their women’s division. I’m hearing that they don’t plan to offer contract extensions to Lita, Trish Stratus or Jacqueline. The first two are surprising: Lita was still sleeping with Shane McMahon last I heard, and Trish is by far the most popular woman in the division (and just won the title at Mania.) I wasn’t really planning on making a bid for any of their women, aside from maybe Molly Holly, but if they’re just going to let Trish and Lita walk maybe I should reach out to them.</p><p> </p><p> WWE hired young Chris Masters, a big muscly guy. Big surprise. They also let Steve Blackman go at the same time.</p><p> </p><p> Pro Wrestling NOAH has been given National designation in Japan. That’s above New Japan’s current Cult status, though NJPW is still considered more important. With the plethora of guys whose contracts are coming due with both us and WWE, it’ll be interesting to see what NOAH does.</p><p> </p><p> NOAH’s Spring Navigation show was good at an 86 overall score, but well below last month’s big show. They didn’t have the big belt defended, as the main event saw champion Jun Akiyama team with Akira Taue to go to a time limit draw against Mitsuharu Misawa and Yoshinari Ogawa in a 91 rated match, which was the best thing on the show. The show also saw Pentagon and Gran Naniwa win the GHC Junior Heavyweight tag titles from Dissident Movement.</p><p> </p><p> Kenta Kobashi is currently out with an elbow injury but he’s still a vital cog for NOAH, who signed him to an extension. They also extended reigning heavyweight champion Jun Akiyama.</p><p> </p><p> While busy trying to swipe all of my guys, New Japan locked down top stars Jushin Liger and Masahiro Chono with contract extensions.</p><p> </p><p> 50 year old Tatsumi Fujinami isn’t done just yet. New Japan signed him to an extension.</p><p> </p><p> NOAH stole Shinji Takada, AJPW’s color commentator.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <hr noshade size=3></p><p> </p><p> Nice work on Mania, Rateddc!</p><p> </p><p> So yeah, a much bigger post than usual just because of the flurry of contract stuff going on. I think that’s because many people were set to 3 year contracts at the start.</p><p> </p><p> If it wasn’t clear, this is the last post before Revolution and now is the time to get your predictions in.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Ry da guy" data-cite="Ry da guy" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43035" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>How good is the company doing financially?</div></blockquote><p> I’ve been turning a profit from the beginning, and right now I’ve generally been making 3-5 million in profit a month. So I’ve got plenty of cash saved up, though my wages are about to skyrocket thanks to all of these bidding wars and just the rising popularity of my roster.</p>
  3. April 2004 National Battle Report National Battle Report: April 2004 <hr noshade size=3> Rateddc indicated they were going to cover Mania in their own way, so we’ll see what happens with that. If necessary I’ll post a screenshot of the results or something, but I don’t think it’s urgent at the moment. Their booking definitely helped WWE in this month’s national battle though (which is good! I want you guest bookers to keep WWE strong.)
  4. Oof; you're like one day too late. It's already been booked. I'll definitely hook you up with something as a replacement prize though. If you want you could choose any two people in the game world and create any form of in-game relationship between them that you want; I'll probably offer that same thing to the two people who tied with Rateddc too. Or I can mark you down to book a different WWE PPV in the future if you'd rather do that. Summerslam is my normal prize for the April-June contest, but I could let you book that and assign a different prize for that contest. Or you could book King of the Ring, which I normally don't offer as a prize. Heck, I was considering replacing KOTR with a Money in the Bank PPV starting in 2005 (assuming I make it to that point), but if you want I could bump that up a year early and give you first crack at it in a couple of in-game months. 5. <p>Is GDS eating posts or something? I got an email notification earlier today about a new post in this thread from ComicFighter, but it's nowhere to be seen in the thread itself. The same thing happened a few days ago with Nobby. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/confused.png.d4a8e6b6eab0c67698b911fb041c0ed1.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="DHK1989" data-cite="DHK1989" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43035" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Ron Simmons was let go? 7. March 2004 Week 3 March 2004, Week 3 March 15th, 2004 Show Notes: -With Guerrero’s win over Knoble, the Dead Jesters jump out to a 1-0 lead over the Rated R Superstars in the UFS finals. “Eric Young looks pretty good to me; might be worth signing full-time.” –CM Punk March 20th, 2004 Upcoming WCW PPV Event(s): News Updates: In less exciting contract extension news, Shinobu Kandori will be sticking around on Renaissance under a PPA deal. Arn Anderson signed an extension and will be sticking around as our lead road agent on the Renaissance brand, where he moved after his role as on-screen President of WCW ended. WWE tried to take some potshots at us during a recent episode of Heat by poking fun at ‘mid-card joke world champions’ (Unnatural), but based on the reactions I’ve seen online it seems like most fans thought the jokes were forced and tacky. Nice try; everyone knows how good Dustin is. Elsewhere in the wrestling world: Chris Sabin, a promising young talent who appears for both ROH and MLW, is headed to jail for a few months for stealing a car. Not too bright. Jake Roberts re-signed with WWE. Kind of surprising since he almost never appears on TV and doesn’t do any backstage work for them from what I hear, but good for him to keep getting a steady paycheck. Scoot Andrews won the annual Super 8 tournament held by ECWA. Russ Haas has signed an extension of his developmental deal with WWE, and occasional job guy Ron Waterman’s staying too. <hr noshade size=3> Nope. It's not common, but it's happened a couple of times before.
  8. Would you guys prefer it if I just started posting the show summaries at the end of each week, along with whatever news has popped up? That way you could kind of follow what's happening in a more natural way, even if the shows aren't really getting written up.
  9. <p>March 14th, 2004: Post-Slamboree News and Prediction Scores</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43035" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><strong>March 14th, 2004</strong><p><strong> Baltimore, Maryland</strong></p><p><strong> Post-Slamboree</strong></p><p> </p><p> ”You guys have no idea how much I’ve enjoyed working here,” Ric Flair said, choking back tears. “WCW was in a bad place a few years ago, but now it’s bigger and stronger than ever, and I’m so happy about it! I might be leaving, but that doesn’t mean I’ll ever stop supporting you guys or wishing you well! Keep killing it down here, and keep growing this company that me, Double A, the Stinger and so many others built up!”</p><p> </p><p> The boys gave Ric a raucous round of applause, and I joined in. He was as respected as anyone in the business, and I knew a lot of people were sad to see him go. It felt weird to me too. Even though we haven’t always seen eye to eye, I know how synonymous he is with WCW. It’ll be weird to see him likely finish his career with Vince, but it is what it is. I’ve come up with a way to write him off of our TV that will both bring him out of his “retirement” and enhance our other storylines, and he’ll be finishing up imminently. He’ll be missed by many, but we’re looking to the future. That didn’t mean we couldn’t give him a nice send-off among the boys though. </p><p> </p><p> My nephew Teddy’s applause was half-hearted. He’d blown off Ric when he went around the locker room before the show to shake everybody’s hand and say a personal goodbye, and Ric had dressed him down for it. He’s a talented kid, but that talent and his last name will only get him so far. If he’s expecting me to hand him the world just because he’s my nephew he’s got other things coming. He’ll need to earn it, just like Nattie is over in Japan on Renaissance.</p><p> </p><p> Shinsuke Nakamura wasn’t clapping too hard either, but that’s because he broke a couple of fingers during his pre-show match. That’ll only keep him out for a week or so, thankfully. The recent bidding wars have given me a greater sense of urgency when it comes to building up new, marketable stars, and it’s unanimous among my staff at Wildside that Nakamura is a prospect with as high a ceiling as anyone they’ve seen in a long time, so I decided to call him up. Now we just need to figure out how we’ll debut him on TV. The dark match was a chance to test out his chemistry with Paul Heyman as a manager, but that pairing didn’t work out well at all, so he won’t be joining the Dangerous Alliance any time soon. Back to the drawing board.</p><p> </p><p> I led some applause for Yang and Kaz Hayashi too before turning things over to Ric, and the Dragons had appreciated it. They keep missing their ‘moment’ in storyline, but nobody back here has missed what they’ve done. They’re not going anywhere.</p><p> </p><p> Can I say the same about Goldberg? I honestly don’t know. We’ve offered him revised terms, but he’s got three huge, lucrative contract offers on the table, and I’m not sure which way he’s leaning right now. If he re-signs, great. If he doesn’t, we’ve set up an obvious path to write him off. </p><p> </p><p> We’re looking to the future. It’ll be a future without Ric Flair, and maybe one without Goldberg too, but it’s still looking bright to me. And speaking of brighter futures, I was hoping to hear back soon on the possibility of moving Nitro off of USA and onto an even bigger broadcaster…</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><p> <hr noshade size=3></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43035" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Slamboree Prediction Scores:<p> </p><p> Kijar: 9</p><p> </p><p> smw88: 7</p><p> HappyOwns: 7</p><p> odan: 7</p><p> Danny H22: 7</p><p> Bigelow Cartwheel: 7</p><p> Rateddc: 7</p><p> crackerjack: 7</p><p> </p><p> JMike: 6</p><p> DHK1989: 6</p><p> Dead Jester: 6</p><p> evileddie10: 6</p><p> Satyr24: 6</p><p> The Lloyd: 6</p><p> Bagins: 6</p><p> GingeyOne: 6</p><p> Electric X: 6</p><p> franticloser: 6</p><p> The Lariat: 6</p><p> </p><p> DGenerationMC: 5</p><p> SagaJoestar: 5</p><p> Moore: 5</p><p> </p><p> Beejus: 4</p><p> </p><p> Texasranger13: 3</p><p> Asaemon: 3</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43035" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Final Standings in Prediction Contest:<p> </p><p> <strong>BHK6: 28</strong></p><p> </p><p> Rateddc: 27 (20:26)</p><p> Dead_Jester: 27 (20:05)</p><p> franticloser: 27 (17:30)</p><p> </p><p> JMike: 26</p><p> DHK1989: 26</p><p> </p><p> Satyr24: 25</p><p> evileddie10: 25</p><p> GingeyOne: 25</p><p> </p><p> DGenerationMC: 24</p><p> </p><p> Kijar: 22</p><p> Happy0wns: 22</p><p> </p><p> K-Nection: 21</p><p> Uncrewed: 21</p><p> SagaJoestar: 21</p><p> odan: 21</p><p> crackerjack: 21</p><p> </p><p> WilburTrey: 20</p><p> James The Animator: 20</p><p> DavidCorperial: 20</p><p> </p><p> ElectricX: 18</p><p> </p><p> Danny_H22: 16</p><p> </p><p> Nobby_McDonald: 15</p><p> </p><p> Wolfman84: 14</p><p> Cro Cop Rules: 14</p><p> sportsfanmas: 14</p><p> CobheadJake: 14</p><p> </p><p> bonnie: 13</p><p> deanohbk: 13</p><p> </p><p> Forrest01: 12</p><p> </p><p> Scarletspeed7: 7</p><p> XMultiGames: 7</p><p> kinnikuniverse: 7</p><p> smw88: 7</p><p> DannyH22: 7</p><p> Bigelow Cartwheel: 7</p><p> </p><p> The Lloyd: 6</p><p> Bagins: 6</p><p> The Lariat: 6</p><p> </p><p> Jaysin: 5 </p><p> Moore: 5</p><p> </p><p> Beejus: 4</p><p> </p><p> Texasrangers13: 3</p><p> Asaemon: 3</p><p> </p><p> </p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> So we’re in a bit of an odd spot here, thanks to my long sabbatical(s). He hasn’t logged into the forum since July though, so that seems like a long shot. Rateddc wins the 3-way tiebreaker among the people tied for second (by mere seconds over Dead_Jester!), so they’ll have the first shot should BHK not respond in time to book the show. Rateddc, I would appreciate you letting me know if you would be interested in booking Mania in TEW2016 if it falls to you, or if you would rather be given an alternative prize and I could move down and offer Mania to Dead_Jester.</p><p> </p><p> Again, major thanks to DHK1989 for adding these up for me!</p><p> </p><p> I had more notes written down for this news update, but my computer apparently didn’t save the document, so those are lost to the aether and I just had to go off of memory.</p>

They had a solid opening match, with Bryan clearly leading the way as the ring general and the standout performer. The match saw plenty of shenanigans from both Cabana and Heenan, but Bryan outwrestled him with his masterful technique and turned his Cattle Mutilation submission into a pinfall. We switched Bryan to a wholesome wrestling machine gimmick here, but the fans didn’t seem to enjoy it much to begin with. On the plus side, he introduced a new hope spot that got the fans behind him even more. He’s already a true ring general, and this will only enhance his match psychology.</p><p> </p><p> Becky Bayless interviewed President Dusty Rhodes about next month’s Clash of the Champions emanating from Australia, but Salvation interrupted. Unnatural handled all the talking for his group, saying that Dusty had himself to blame for what happened to Austin. “Another legend will fall tonight, and just like Austin, so too will Bill Goldberg’s blood be on your hands!” This angle got the crowd hotter, but Dusty didn’t hold up well this time, getting outtalked by his son.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="rrRBDgP.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rrRBDgP.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Brian Kendrick had a fun back and forth match, with Chavo not only showing up but giving his all now that there were stakes in his match. He tried his best, but Kendrick caught him with Sliced Bread #2 and made his fifth successful title defense, bringing him halfway to the total required to vacate the title and challenge for the US belt (or ten away from the World title, if he chooses to bypass the US shot.) Chavo threw a tantrum in the ring after the match, kicking the ropes and shaking the guard rail.</p><p> </p><p> While Chavo sulked, Kendrick celebrated—until he was cut off by Shane Helms and his manager Buff Bagwell on the video screen. They were surrounded by a couple of unnamed attractive ladies (local indie workers we hired for the night) and really enjoying themselves, but they said their party would be even better if they took Kendrick’s TV title away from him. “Ladies love Buff, they love Sugar, and they love gold!”</p><p> </p><p> The first of two UFS Semifinal matches saw Eddie Guerrero of the Dead Jesters take on Matt Hardy of Uncrewed’s Crew. This was a fantastic match, easily the best of the night to this point, with Eddie turning in an excellent performance. It was a back and forth with plenty of near-falls from both guys, but The Enigma’s appearance at ringside distracted his brother and allowed Enigma’s UFS teammate Guerrero to get the win and send their team to the finals.</p><p> </p><p> Backstage, UWA Welterweight champion Jamie Knoble and WCW Cruiserweight champion TAKA argued (well, manager Tammy Sytch argued on TAKA’s behalf) over whose title meant more during an interview with Becky Bayless.</p><p> </p><p> The second UFS match saw an old rivalry reignited as AJ Styles of the Rated R Superstars met Sean O’Haire of The Limitless. It was the classic big man vs. little man story, with both guys playing their roles well. The difference maker was Bobby Roode and Ric Flair, who came down and argued with Paul Heyman when he tried to help O’Haire. Styles hit a springboard forearm and then a Spiral Tap for the pin amidst the chaos, though he didn’t even seem to notice all the commotion on the floor. Regardless, the Rated R Superstars are on to the finals. </p><p> </p><p> Rey Mysterio Jr. was back on Piper’s Pit, and didn’t seem any more certain of his career direction than he’d been the last time they talked. This time Konnan came out to interrupt and coax Rey into coming to the back to talk, ending the segment. Roddy looked good here, but Konnan performed poorly. Maybe that’s to be expected with how little we’ve used him or let him talk, but he did show some improved acting chops.</p><p> </p><p> The Steenerico vs. Calgary Bulldogs match was a chance for both young teams to get some PPV time, and they had a nice little match. Steen got the submission win on TJ after about 7 and a half minutes, but they didn’t have long to celebrate their win. They were jumped after the match by Made in Italy, who tossed Steen to the floor and hit the Catwalk on Generico. As Dawn Marie cheered, Johnny Parisi grabbed the mic and said that after beating Steenerico last month at SuperBrawl, this spotlight should have been theirs. </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/mitTbCm.jpg</span></p><p> The US title match was always going to suffer for featuring two heels going at it, and neither RVD or Corino is enough of a ring general to put together and lead a match either. Despite those issues, this was still an excellent match just because both guys are so great. In the end the Five Star Frog Splash saw a successful title defense for RVD, and afterwards the rest of the DA came out to congratulate him. Heyman grabbed a mic and did an amazing job of cutting an unscripted promo that threw Dusty’s plans for Clash of the Champions into disarray. “Traditionally the US champion gets to challenge for the World title at the Clash. But RVD has no need for any other title, because the most prestigious belt in the world is whichever one Rob-Van-Dam happens to be holding at the time! So Mr. President, with all due respect: you’ll need to find a different challenger!”</p><p> </p><p> The Shooting Stars (with Torrie Wilson) did a backstage interview with Becky and said they hoped to challenge the winners of the upcoming tag title match. My nephew Teddy didn’t look too good here, unfortunately.</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/S0cu0uO.jpg</span></p><p> As expected any time the True Heroes are given a chance to shine in a big match, they delivered gold. It wasn’t all them though, because Hayashi and Yang were fantastic too. This was tag team wrestling at its finest, with great innovative double teams as well as sound tag team wrestling psychology in a match that started slowly and built higher and higher. A lot of fans believed that this was the time for the Dragons to finally get their big win, but it was not to be. Storm tapped out Yang with the Calgary Clutch a little past the 24 minute mark, and the Heroes emerged victorious in an epic. Stacy consoled the Dragons after the match, and on commentary Mike and I wondered how they would cope after another title match where they looked great but came up just short.</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/haJKoFv.jpg</span></p><p> The crowd was hot for this one for sure, and the work was really good too. The story here was that Unnatural stalled to break up Goldberg’s momentum and would then go on a vicious assault whenever the opportunity presented itself, but no matter what he did he couldn’t finish the challenger off. Goldberg even kicked out of Unnatural Selection, and then he started to roll. He shrugged off some more offensive attempts and started battering Unnatural. Father Isaac signaled for Mortis to run down after Goldberg hit the spear. Goldberg and ref Nick Patrick both saw him coming, but it was all a ruse so The Enigma could sneak in from the other side and lay Goldberg out with a title belt shot to the back of the head! A second Unnatural Selection followed, and this time Goldberg didn’t kick out. This match was held back from what it could have been by the need to protect Goldberg, both to keep him happy and to keep him looking like our top star. It was still an excellent match, but not quite in the running for match of the night.</p><p> </p><p> The entirety of Salvation came out after the match so they could try and make good on their threat to destroy Goldberg and drive him from WCW. They busted him open after a second belt shot to the head, but President Rhodes and some security and wrestlers came down just in time to prevent an Unnatural Selection on top of the ring steps. Dusty was very underwhelming here, but the principal stars (Goldberg and Unnatural) were both great. It isn’t often that you see Goldberg look so vulnerable, and it really worked.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43035" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><strong><span style="color:#FF0000;"><span style="font-size:18px;">Show Summary:</span></span></strong><p> </p><p> <img alt="Il8lCox.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Il8lCox.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> <img alt="REPXMML.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/REPXMML.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <em>Notes from this show:</em></p><p><em> “I didn’t see much from Cash in the pre-show battle royal; the fans just don’t care. 11. Pre-Slamboree News and Notes Part II The Beautiful Nightmare and referee Nick Patrick have re-signed, and Mary Apache will be sticking around for at least a few more months as enhancement talent on Renaissance. Elsewhere in the wrestling world: All Japan has re-signed Hiroshi Hase, their reigning Triple Crown champion. Paul Bearer is staying in WWE. <hr noshade size=3> I think O'Haire is more important than Flair at this stage, especially with my product. Ric is a great promo, but I've got plenty of guys who can do that well enough. His star quality is dwindling with age, so he's not really going to be a factor in the battle. NJPW would be paying well over $200K a month to Austin and Goldberg if they land both of them. It would immediately propel them into probably beating both me and WWE in National battles once they get back up to that level, but I don't think they'll be able to maintain it financially. Mamaluke is here pretty much solely because of his chemistry with Johnny Parisi, who might wind up being a big star eventually. There are a bunch of factors behind it, and yeah, you probably know at least part of it. That said, I didn’t think I’d be buying 2016 either and, well, here we are. So never say never I guess! They're my favorite too. I think you'll be seeing greater emphasis on those going forward as opposed to writing up shows and storylines.
  12. Pre-Slamboree News and Notes Part I We signed Tony Mamaluke to a 2 year contract extension. Elsewhere in the wrestling world: I’m sure everyone in New Japan (as well as Antonio Inoki’s accountant) was holding their breath when Steve Austin noticeably limped to the back after one of his first matches in the company. It wasn’t anything serious though, which is lucky for them after the massive amount of money they invested in him. Speaking of New Japan, their 32nd Anniversary show was a success. Steve Austin’s PPV debut saw him beat Takeshi Ono in a 92 rated opening match. Riki Choshu had a disappointed IWGP Heavyweight title defense against Yoshihiro Takayama that only received a 77 score from the experts, but at least they were smart enough to put it in the semi main. They let Koji Kanemoto close the show, and he delivered in a 93-rated Junior Heavyweight title defense over Hiroshi Tanahashi that was match of the night. Kanemoto has been tearing the house down, and at this point most agree that the Junior title feels like a bigger deal than the Heavyweight belt. If NJPW is smart, they’ll move into a Kanemoto/Austin feud for the big belt. Keiji Mutoh signed a contract extension with AJPW. No surprise there. <hr noshade size=3> This was already a pretty big news story, but I just simmed forward one day and another HUGE story happened. I can't just tack that one on at the end like a footnote, so there'll be a second piece of news before Slamboree. Thanks for the warm welcome back, guys!
  13. March 2004: Road to Slamboree What’s left for The Unnatural after running Steve Austin out of WCW? How about defending his title against the other top star of the late ‘90s resurgence, Goldberg? We had Goldberg beat Eddie Guerrero in a #1 contender’s match (stemming from each guy winning a big singles match at SuperBrawl) to set up the main event for Slamboree. There was no physicality between champion or challenger at all during the build (though Destroyer did eat a spear when he got too close to Goldberg.) Unnatural did threaten to eliminate Goldberg just like he did to the last icon who “President Rhodes” sent after him (Austin), but Goldberg wasn’t worried on Piper’s Pit. He told Roddy that Salvation would not eliminate him from WCW, but if they got in his way HE would eliminate THEM. The UFS Semifinals were another big focus of the month. The top-seeded Dead Jesters got off to a good start against the #6 Uncrewed’s Crew when Akira Hokuto beat Aja Kong on Renaissance, but the Crew bounced back when Shane Helms scored an upset win over Shane Douglas (thanks to a Buff Bagwell/Paul Heyman argument providing a distraction.) Then RVD won a very good all-heel match against Christopher Daniels to put the Crew up 2 to 1. Paul London failed to close it out against The Enigma, who the Jesters named as a replacement for the #1 overall pick Steve Austin, so it falls to a deciding match between Eddie Guerrero and Matt Hardy. The other Semifinal saw the #2 Rated R Superstars jump to the lead when Goldberg beat Mortis of the #5 team The Limitless, but Yang beat Finlay to get the underdogs on the board. Over on Renaissance Meiko Satomura beat Daffney to put the Superstars one win away from the finals, but Kaz Hayashi knocked off Jamie Knoble to tie it at 2. AJ Styles will meet Sean O’Haire to settle it at Slamboree. There’s a tradition of the US champion challenging for the World title at Clash of the Champions, and we built that into the story as King Corino barged into the Dangerous Alliance locker room to challenge RVD to a title match. He came right out and said that he wanted the title so he could use it as a stepping stone for the World title match the following month. RVD and Heyman didn’t take kindly to that idea, but they did agree to give him the chance. We’re going with the Jung Dragons as challengers for True Heroes and the tag titles in what should hopefully be a great match. The Dragons insist that this will finally be their time, but the Heroes say they’ll be left with more of their useless “objections” after another failed title hunt. Bryan Danielson is back. He wanted to call out the guy he got injured against at Starrcade, RVD, but RVD and Heyman told him to get to the back of the line. After he won his return match, Colt Cabana and Bobby Heenan told him if he was smart like them he would have realized that he was now at the back of the line. They promised to educate him at Slamboree. Chavo Guerrero Jr. wanted to know why “lesser talent” were getting matches with consequences while he’s stuck with stuff not worth showing up for. President Dusty Rhodes asked if he would actually bother to show up if he was given a TV title #1 contender’s match. Chavo did indeed show up, and won a four way match to earn the shot at Slamboree. Rounding out the card is a bout between two of our young up and coming tag teams, Steenerico and the Calgary Bulldogs <hr noshade size=3> This is the last show in an age-old prediction contest. The winner (or whoever shows back up after such a long sabbatical, I guess ) will have the chance to book Wrestlemania 20 in game, or can choose an alternate prize if they'd rather not do that. Wait until you see the next news update!

  15. February 2004 Renaissance Update, News and March National Battle <hr noshade size=3> Thanks to our recent success, the Observer has upped our status and now considers us to be an International company. Since WWE fell from that level in late 2002 and have yet to rise back up, that can’t make Vince happy. It’s a positive for us but we can’t afford to rest on our laurels, especially having lost a big gun in our fight when Austin jumped to New Japan. We’ve signed Japanese talent and Ultimo Dragon trainee Magnum Tokyo to a contract. He tore his rotator cuff in an August 2002 match in the Japanese branch of Toryumon, and by the time he recovered both of the groups he’d been working for (Toryumon and Big Japan) had closed up shop. He hasn’t been given a chance by any of the surviving Japanese groups for whatever reason, so we went ahead and signed him. He’ll make a brief trip to Wildside to work off his ring rust, and then we’ll figure out a use for him in WCW. Down in developmental, Ace Steel caught some kind of viral infection that will keep him out of action for over a month. Elsewhere in the wrestling world: -WWE ran an ECW-branded PPV called Living Dangerously, though they run both brands on every PPV so whatever. The ECW title did main event though, and Scott Hall won it from Kurt Angle, who had held it since Wrestlemania last year. That was a good match, but Rock retaining the WWE title over Edge in the semi main was the highlight of a show that was good, but nowhere close to SuperBrawl. I guess the show didn’t get enough buys to make DirecTV happy though, so they’re moving future PPVs to a later time slot. Too bad, Vince. -Steve Skyfire (also known as EZ Money, or formerly Jason Jett in WCW) won the NWA World title from Tadao Yasuda on an NWA show in Connecticut. -Pro Wrestling IRON had to bow out and close up shop due to financial troubles. -Steve Austin made his New Japan debut on their TV show with a thrilling 95-rated DQ win over Satoshi Kojima that is one of the best matches the company has put on so far this year. <hr noshade size=3> National Battle Report: March 2004 <hr noshade size=3> Sorry if the shift in size and style in the show summary screenshots is jarring. That's a result of both switching computers and more recently applying a different skin. It’s the WCW Lives mod by Genadi. The mod starts in May, as did my in-game shows. I would assume it’s still up on Home of Pro Wrestling if nowhere else. You’d have to tinker with things in the editor before you start to set it up exactly the way I did.

At the moment I do not plan to buy TEW2020, and I believe this will be my last TEW dynasty.</p>
  17. I ran the next episode of Nitro today, which I think was the first show I've run in game in about 9 months (!) ...Guess that means we're back now? I appreciate the offer, and yeah, it's not anything more complex than adding up the scores and then adding them into a person's total for the current contest. It's not difficult, just time-consuming. I am disappointed I didn't get to Austin-Punk, which I was wanting to save until Punk was an established main event singles guy. I'm sure I COULD have re-signed Austin if I really wanted to, but I think him going elsewhere was the best thing for the game world. That he went to NJPW instead of WWE was unexpected, but maybe even more interesting. Dustin is the breakout of this for sure. He's the equivalent of what Ted DiBiase was in my WWf Golden Age dynasty. Yep, that was my first! I started that way back in 2009, and I want to say it ended in...2013? Yeah, I'd only need one person to do it; not like I'm going to make multiple people do it and then compare and contrast their work or something! Though there's always the possibility that even if one person assumes the responsibility of doing it, they might be unavailable or not have the time after a certain PPV.
  18. Thanks man; I just might take you up on that! I'm feeling the itch again... You know it's a good sign when I'm starting to think about what the main event of Starrcade should be.
  19. <p>Hypothetical question: if I were to restart this, is there anyone that would be willing to volunteer to add up the prediction scores after the PPVs? Popping back in here a couple of days ago got me thinking about my future plans for this universe again, excited about my ideas, etc. Then I remembered how long it used to take me to add up those prediction scores and then add the points into the overall scores, and I was suddenly a lot less excited. </p><p> </p><p> It's a major first world problem to have; I remember back when I started writing here over ten years ago (!) and I would be lucky to get more than two or three people predicting on a show. The support I've gotten over the years has been amazing, and I think prediction games are great at encouraging engagement from you guys, plus we've established some cool prizes here like the UFS, guest booking WWE PPVs, etc. But it's a simple fact that it would sometimes take me like an hour to add all of those results up, and that's an hour I don't really have the time to spend on this anymore. </p><p> </p><p> I probably wouldn't be hitting those peak numbers anymore if I jumped back in, of course; with how inconsistent posting has been over the last year or so, plus TEW 2020 just around the corner, I doubt there would be as much interest and engagement in this thread as there once was. But if I'm going to try and get back into this I need to try and look for areas of it that I can streamline to save myself time, and this is one of them.</p><p> </p><p> I suppose I could drop predictions entirely, but I don't really like that solution. I don't really like asking the question in the first place, to be honest, but I figured I might as well float it out there and open myself up to feedback/ridicule/whatever. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/cool.png.f00d2562b2c1d873a09323753efdb041.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>
  20. <p>Hello friends.</p><p> </p><p> Sorry if you got your hopes up when you saw me post in here; this isn't a diary update. (It's not a post-mortem either though. I <em>do</em> hope to come back to this some day, as I've really enjoyed this universe and I think there's plenty of story left to tell. It's just a matter of figuring out the best way for me to do that.)</p><p> </p><p> I popped in here because I've just started another, different wrestling-related sideproject that I think (hope) some of you might enjoy. The recent flood of COVID-related cancellations have had me missing New Japan, and lamenting the fact that what looked like an awesome New Japan Cup lineup has been wiped out. Obviously there are much bigger problems in the world, but as a big New Japan fan it's a bummer.</p><p> </p><p> Then I got an idea: I could book the thing myself, in Fire Pro Wrestling. After making some preparations, I'm now ready to begin. I'll start with the would-be main event of the cancelled Anniversary Show, and then jump into simulating the New Japan Cup tournament. Perhaps I'll have enough fun to keep it going well beyond that too, who knows?</p><p> </p><p> I knew I was going to document it in some form because that's just who I am, so I figured I might as well share my experiment with whoever might be interested in reading it. I would have posted it here on GDS but it looks like the Special Dynasty subforum is gone, which I assume means they only want to host dynasties that are run using GDS products (which is perfectly logical if so.) So instead I'm going to be hosting it on a relatively new forum called bethebooker dot net. Hopefully I'm not breaking any rules by plugging/linking to it here, but as it's a forum that has a dedicated TEW section (and that is in fact the major focus of the forum), I'm assuming it's okay. If I'm wrong, the mods can obviously do what they like with this post or ask me to edit it. </p><p> </p><p> Hopefully a few of you will pop in and check this out. If not, hopefully I'll be back right here in this thread to continue the adventures of Bret Hart, The Unnatural & co. one day. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <a href="https://bethebooker.net/thread/247/new-japan-wrestling-unstoppable-lion" rel="external nofollow">https://bethebooker.net/thread/247/new-japan-wrestling-unstoppable-lion</a></p>
  21. Imagine being me, a 34-year old Dodger fan who has only gotten to experience those two World Series appearances. (I was obviously alive when they won in '88, but not like 3-year old me got to enjoy that celebration.) I came into this thread to rant about this dumb new playoff proposal MLB is floating out there. Half the league in the playoffs, first round byes, a best 2-out of 3 wild card, and a "playoff draft" where the top teams choose their opponents? I already thought Manfred was garbage before this, and he's only digging himself a bigger hole.
  22. Yeah, NEVER watch a Youtube livestream with the comments on. I had the comments on for like 30 seconds of an episode of AEW Dark and it was just WWE fanboys trolling and AEW fanboys arguing with them. (At least there wasn't any racism going on though, which I'm assuming puts it a step above what the Powerrrrrrrrrrrr chat looks like at the moment.)

Tony’s absence is unfortunate</p></div></blockquote><p> Yeah, I'm surprised at how much I've enjoyed Tony in AEW, especially with how obviously disinterested he was towards the end of WCW.</p><p> </p><p> I enjoyed the show; don't regret buying it, even if Moxley vs. Omega wasn't my cup of tea. Undoubtedly great for what it was, but when it comes to a violent wrestling match I'd much prefer something like the match Mox had vs. Juice Robinson in his NJPW debut.</p>
  24. I both loved and hated Mauro when he did New Japan on AXS. He could be really great at certain times and it was clear he did his research on the wrestlers and the product (unlike his replacement, JR), but he also had a tendency to be over the top to the point of annoyance. I'd imagine that hasn't changed much in WWE.
