  1. Maybe Davey vs. Lethal

Can throw that one out for the 10th Anniversary Show, it's been announced for "The Homecoming 2012" in about 3 weeks time. Would be shocked to see a rematch at the 10th Anniversary Show, especially with a clean Davey win pretty much a guarantee (a dead cert unless Steen interjects himself).

  2. FB spoilers below, yo:

Overall, I think I'd say I enjoyed Final Battle and definitely got my money's worth. But I thought Edwards/Richards III was kind of a letdown. All that time spent hyping up Edwards training with Dan Severn, and it didn't really amount to anything at all within the context of the match. I thought the last few minutes were overkill too. Still, I dug the end with Steen coming out. That dude should really liven up the main event picture.

I liked the match, but only liked it. It didn't live up to Richards/Edwards II which was a slight problem, would have probably been seen as a better match if there wasn't the expectation.

Oh, and ROH really should try and bring in Maria on a semi-regular basis. Aside from being ridiculously hot (seriously, did you see her?), I thought she added a lot to Bennett's schtick.

I can't argue with you on hotness, but I always find it a bit weird when real life relationships are brought into wrestling. Fans would have even more reason to jeer Bennett if they broke up, now that they have been acknowledged as a couple. But I do agree with you that her appearance did help Bennett.

Loved Steen / Corino thought the whole match and post-match stuff was really well executed. Very good opener, loved the suplex catch and some of the other spots in that match.

El Generico was great, I really like him and thought the rope to rope to Generico and then the DDT was really good. I really thought the commentary was quiet good as well.

Agree with all of this. In my opinion the first half of the show was superior to the second because of those three matches.

Semi-related: the 10th Anniversary show is not going to be on iPPV. The 10TH ANNIVERSARY. Insane. That should have been one of the biggest shows they've ever done.

WHAT? That is absolutely crazy. Although I am struggling to see what suitable main event ROH can put on for an event of such magnitude. Not being on IPPV kind of puts ROH between a rock and a hard place though, put on a too good match and eat up some buys an IPPV could have, put on a match not worthy of the event and there will be some backlash.

I personally expect Richards vs Strong, but who knows.

I haven't watched any ROH in a while, does El Generico still use that "Ole" song for his theme song?

Yes (well atleast on the PPV, I haven't kept up with TV), and the song is "Ole" by "Bouncing Souls".

And a couple of things I would add to the discussion.

-WGTT, why did they go out and play the heels? The attack on the Briscoes would have been justified, but they were getting booed for it, and Haas didn't exactly help the situation.

-Chris Hero. I really wan't to know whether he is back for good or if this was just a one time thing. Also, while I am talking about Hero, I hated his attire. It looked like he dipped into a lost and found box of wrestling gear and put on whatever he grabbed out. Chris, stick to one colour or pattern for all your gear (not a mix of camo, black and red).

-Where the hell do Steen and Generico go from here. They instantly killed off the possibility of them staying out of each others paths, but if they feud where does it finish without one of them out of the door (unless Generico turns and joins Steen, but why would he do that now)?

  3. So...anyone else excited for Final Battle?

Lots to be excited about. Mainly Richards vs Edwards III, almost justifies the $15 price tag on its own to me, even if the match is only half as good as their Best In The World clash we are in for a treat.

The other two titles are also set to be defended with 'Dem Boys' The Briscoe Brothers going for tag gold, while Lethal defends the TV title against both Generico and Mike Bennett.

Can't exactly say the rest of the card is weak either. Elgin vs TJ Perkins is bound to be a good match. We can expect many holy **** moments from the tag gauntlet. And a Roderick Strong invitational, should be a good mystery opponent for a show as big as this.

And don't forget, Steen is back wrestling in a ROH ring for the first time in 12 months, another match you don't want to miss.

All in all a great show, and one I sure as hell won't be missing.

  5. Just got back from the show in Collinsville, my first time seeing ROH live. Easily the most fun I've ever had at a wrestling show. All Night Express vs. American Wolves was fantastic.

Lucky you. How was the rest of the card? Looked like a good card, although I am so far behind on ROH that I didn't even know there was a show until I saw you say you went in your dynasty. :p

  6. Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I thought it was relevant. If anyone in England has Sky and the music channel Scuzz, or if you live anywhere else that has Scuzz, at 8.30pm tonight in GMT, there's a New Music Alert thing - my bands video is going to be on it, it would be awesome if you could get in contact with Scuzz and request it or tell them you enjoyed it or generally check us out! It's a huge deal to us to have made it onto television so it'd be sick for anyone to check it out!

Here's the video for ya'll who don't have Scuzz anyway - for your pop-punk/hardcore/maybe modern metal contingent, hope you enjoy :):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gcWK_33hwY

Wow. Congratulations for getting on TV, just listened to the song on youtube and I enjoyed it.

Out of curiosity which one are you?

  7. I watched ROH for the first time tonight and I have to say that I will most likely not watch it again it just sucked bad imo. The Code of Honor really did it for me. What kind of wrestling is it if both guys are shaking hands their wrestler not pro sport players. The production values are terrible also and that Richards guy just is boring to me. Lethal was good and so was the tag team match but other than that it sucked.

Boxers/MMA fighters have the option to touch gloves before the fight starts, that is there version of a handshake, and I have never seen anyone complain about that.

Guys don't have to shake hands, and that can lead to heat at times. (And also jokes galore about the Young Bucks not shaking hands :p.)

Can't say much about production values yet, as I have not seen the show, but what do you expect from an indy company. It is not going to be WWE level.

Onto your point about Davey being boring, truthfully: most ROH characters are 'boring', however in the ring they are more exciting than most people in WWE & TNA. Don't expect to see many wrestlers with over the top gimmicks in ROH (I say many as there is Grizzly Redwood :p).

  8. Am I the only one who can never seem to access ROH's website?

I always get server errors out the wazoo.

Normally fine for me, except for the forums which had been down for the past few days due to a certain 'Mr Wrestling'.

I am guessing it is down right now while they are updating the site. They said several times on their Twitter that details about the TV show on demand service will be revealed after the relaunch. So that explains its current status.

Unrelated note: after following the company for approximately seven years, I'm finally going to my first ROH show in November!

Print out every show you have run in your diary and try and give it to Cary Silkin. Could land yourself a booking job :p.

  9. Danny Trejo is really good at playing Danny Trejo I've found :-p Little known fact: The move Machete was originally supposed to be a fly on the wall documentary called Trejo: A day in the life of a bad ass Mexican. They just dubbed every utterance of the word 'Trejo' with 'Machete' and marketed it as an action movie. 100% fact.

I have my theories on how SoA will end, and it won't be with Clay and Jax getting out. I reckon we're gonna see at least one more season, purely because it's doing well commercially, and I can't see them stretching the 'Jax wanting out' storyline out for essentially two more seasons (4&5).

I think that we're gonna see the death of Gemma (Jax's Mom, Clay's wife) at the end of season 4. I think it'll be Clay's fault; he'll end up doing something that puts Gemma and or the club in danger (either intentionally or otherwise) and it'll result in him being removed from the throne. Jax will want revenge for his Mom's death, and Tara will make him chose revenge and the club, or her. Jax will chose the former, and end up fulfilling his 'destiny' by filling Clay's boots.

That'd set up a 5th season with Clay on the outside, possibly drinking himself into an early grave in remorse, but still pulling strings on the outside. Jax would be a much darker character, having seeming lost everything but the club, and there would be an ongoing theme of him going close to the edge...like a more wildcard, bitter version of Clay. Opie would take the role Jax had in seasons one and two; the level-headed second in command trying to keep Jax on the straight and narrow. Jax would finally be 'saved' by Tara and Opie at the end, maybe with the help of a repentant Clay, and could finally ride off into the sunset with this family, leaving the club to Opie.

You could end the show there with closure for all the main characters having some form of closure, or move on to a sixth season without Gemma, Clay, Jax and Tara, bringing some new cast members in until the rating crash and it gets cancelled :-p

I'm with you doubting whether this will be the last season, but am unsure where they would go for it.

But I never want to see a series without Jax, Tara, Clay & Jemma. Can you imagine a series revolving around Opie, Tig & Piney. :p

  10. So Sons of Anarchy is back, and still rocking my socks off after great seasons. The ending to the first episode of season four was great, and the second episode kept up the pace.

Really like the US Attorney guy with his retro bike and leathers, and the regular cast are all on form. No spoilers, but Eli Roosevelt is gonna pay for what he did in the clubhouse...you knows it!!

Agreed, Sons is an awesome show.

Personally I am rooting for Roosevelt to eventually become 'Good Cop', well a good cop in the eyes of the Sons. I can see him going against the Mayor, and trying to get Clay & Jax to help 'clean up' the town before they ride off into the sunset. (Honestly hoping atleast Clay will be gone at the end of this season (if this isn't the last season that is)).

On a different note Danny Trejo's character is one I very much enjoy.

  11. Haven't seen anything that says he has...

That, and he's always struck me as someone that'd completely flop in the WWE. He puts on good matches, that's about as far as I've seen his entertainment value go for me. He's "eh" on the microphone... nothing really there that'd help him stand out in the WWE. Generic look+average microphone skills+at least he rocks in the ring!=not a fit for the WWE. He's a career independent star, and for good reason. Not every indie darling is getting "screwed" by not getting signed and then pushed to the top of the WWE. ;)

Claudio, on the other hand... always been pretty high on him. He has an absolutely fantastic look going for him, great in-ring worker... yeah, good chance he sees some success from this.

Not saying he has to be signed and pushed heavily, or that he even has to get signed (Selfishly, I would quite enjoy him staying on the indies :p) .Personally I just want the WWE to replace the people they have with 'Generic Look + Average Mic Skills + Average In The Ring' with people like Chris, who is actually a great talent in ring.

I would take Chris Hero over the likes of Heath Slater every day of the week.

  12. Apparently Claudio Castagnoli has officially in FCW:

    http://twitter.com/#!/AntonioCesaro

They changed his name, too. :(

(Thanks to the guys at gamefaqs for the heads up)

As much as it pains me that Claudio will no longer be in ROH, I am happy for Claudio. He deserves this opportunity, and although I am struggling to imagine what gimmick he might play on the main roster, I think he has all the tools to make it big.

Wondering whether Hero has signed as well now.

  13. Warning to others. Don't read the "Special Autograph Signing Set for NYC!" article on ROH's website if you don't wan't to read spoilers.

And considering they are acknowledging it in the article I would say the spoiler is also likely to pop up at Death Before Dishonor. This is why I hate their taping schedule.

  14. Thanks, man.

Haven't seen any of them, I'll check them out.

If you are planning to watch the TV show or upcoming shows (Death Before Dishonor coming up on IPPV soon), then Best In The World is must watch. It sets up pretty much everything you need to know going into the TV show, and the main event is a real match of the year contender.

  15. Pretty much this, IMO. I think it's been a rather entertaining gimmick for Sting, and if you try to look at it in a less biased fashion, they've been doing a good job of building talents and working with their limited television time on most storylines...

I've been enjoying TNA for the last couple of months.

Sting has verged into one of those characters that makes me embarrased to be a wrestling fan. Its over the top and completely ridiculous. I have nothing against Sting, but how he was talked into this gimmick I will never understand.

And you can't say they have limited TV time, most promotions would kill for a 2 hour TV show, they just have a stupidly bloated roster. Lets take Raw, on their WWE roster page they list 32 wrestlers (this includes people like Curt Hawkins, Skip Sheffield and more people who haven't been seen in a long time (Im looking at you Goldust)). TNA have atleast that many Wrestlers they put on television on a regular basis, and then you have to factor in time given to Hogan, its ridiculous. TNA has 51 wrestlers listed on there roster.

I think its obvious to say if they cut back a bit and gave more focus to a smaller group of wrestlers the product could be a lot better.

  16. *fantasy booking cap on*

I want this to lead to an actually important classic Survivor Series match. I feel HHH isn't the one who sent the message to Nash, and therefore he will remain face for now. It is revealed that either Laurinitis (sp?) or Steph sent the message to Nash, and he will side with them looking for one more payday (since Nash always seems to be about the money). Steph & 'Ace' begin to work their way into a powerful position, possibly recruiting more muscle (Mark Henry would work) while trying to convince ADR to side with them.

HHH convinces Punk & Cena that they have to work together to overcome the new 'Corporation'. And HHH recruits someone to counter-act whoever Steph can get.

So we could potentially end up with a Survivor Series match looking something like:

Cena, CM Punk, Sheamus, ??? & ??? vs. Alberto Del Rio, Kevin Nash, Mark Henry, ??? & ???

HHH could potentially return to the ring and join the match, or the tag titles could be drawn into the fued with Bourne/Kingston & Otunga/McGillicutty joining in. Would add a bit of spice with Otunga/McGillicutty trying to convince their old Nexus leader to join them.

My dream finish to the match would be either Punk or Cena joining Steph, leading to another match between the two, with them both on different sides of a stable fued.

  17. I would appreciate it if people didn't talk about the results (or did so in white text as to hide it from the people who don't want to know). While I will avoid this thread like the plague before the shows start airing, I will be wishing to come in here and discuss events as they occur on TV, so don't want to read spoilers.

I agree with your idea about a spoiler thread, or I would even suggest a spoiler forum.

  18. So while I acknowledge your cencern, did the Daniels spoiler ruin anything for you? It didn't for me. I watched Final Battle, loved it, watched the match with him and Edwards... and loved that too.

No it didn't ruin anything for me because by that point I wasn't watching the TV show at all, and because of that had already read the spoilers. However if I was still watching the TV show I would have been seriously annoyed (putting it nicely, without swearing), because it would have spoiled my enjoyment of the match when Daniels got the belt. I am starting to enjoy wrestling less nowadays, but I can still seriously enjoy it when I don't know what is going to happen, which is the reason why CM Punk has got me hooked to Raw currently, and made Richards vs Edwards at BiTW even better to me, since I didn't know who would win. If I know who is going to win I don't care how good the match is I am not going to enjoy it as much.

But the other scenario, Edwards showing up at FB with the belt would still have annoyed me if I was still watching the show (although I would only get annoyed when seeing Daniels win the belt), as it would feel like they were insulting my intelligence, since I know when the show is taped.

I understand I am being awkward, since ROH can't win with that type of schedule. And this is why I said:

As long as a decent taping schedule can be worked out, this is really a new era for ROH.

As soon as the news was announced, because I saw something like this coming.
