  1. While that's true, I'm thinking more about being able to future proof the game world I'm building in my mod. It just feels off to me to have a belt called the NWA U.S. Heavyweight Title (Mid-Atlantic) in mid-90's WCW - it just shatters the illusion for me. But it's either that or I have to call it the WCW US Heavyweight championship, while it's still in Mid Atlantic... not to mention the fact that Georgia Championship Wrestling is still operating in my game world so there's a good chance that THIS will end up being WCW rather than JCP... In terms of activating and de-activating titles, again it's the idea of having a simulation where All Japan ends up with four primary titles (one of which suggests it's a combination of the three other titles) and other anomalies that I'd rather avoid if I could. So basically it's a case of either coming up with generic-ish names for the belts that will not be so jarring as the game world evolves or take the hit on weird and wonderful belt names and leave it to the player to manually edit as they go. Would just be nice to have an automated solution.
  2. I'm working on a historical mod from the time when the NWA was a dominant force in wrestling and the majority of territories in the alliance had at least one or two belts that had NWA in the title. Unfortunately, if the territory was to leave the NWA (which you'd kind of want at least one of the bigger players to do in order to compete with the WWF at the time) it means that all of their major titles would refer to a competitor group. There's currently no way to rename the belts via narratives or to deactivate one title and activate another. While adding narratives for these would be helpful, a more flexible solution might be an option to automatically add the initials of the Company or an Alliance at the start of the belt name - the game could then update if the member leaves the alliance? Also as alluded to above, I think having dates for belts to commence and deactivate would be useful - this would be great for things like AJPW's Triple Crown for example. Perhaps the user can have an option to make them a hard close (which will deactivate the belt forever) or soft which would vacate the belt and retire it but leave the option for the AI to reactivate at a later point?
  3. I think the narrative options allow great flexibility to influence the game world but for historical mods in particular it would be good to have a few more options specifically around workers and companies. Worker becomes available as x (where x is each individual role (i.e. Wrestler, Occasional, Personality, Manager, Announcer, Colour, Road Agent) Worker no longer available as x Worker goes on hiatus Worker returns from hiatus Worker retires Worker comes out of retirement Company buys out another company Company activates title Company deactivates title
  4. Thank you! I'll give this a go later and will let you know how I go.
  5. I like the idea - would be good to simulate the old PrimeTime Wrestling format. I'd also like to add to this with something that would probably only work in a future iteration of the game: I'd like the show to feature an option where you can add matches from other previously broadcast (and unbroadcasted) shows. From here you could have a few production options where you could do things like: a) Air the original match in it's entirety b) Edit the match with new aims (e.g. make Worker A look stronger; or hide Worker B's deficiencies) c) Edit the match for time d) Add a match from the House show loop e) Put a dark match on TV Each option would have benefits and drawbacks, I would say that showing the original match will result in a lower pop rate than it received originally while editing in some form could result in a backlash from fans (if the changes aren't handled well) or the workers themselves. On the other hand, the edit could result in storyline heat increasing or a worker's momentum going up, for example. Adding matches from the house show loop or Dark Matches would let you capitalize on some good chemistry etc, but at the pay-off of having poorer production values than normal or workers who aren't taking things seriously. I'm sure other pros and cons could be added to this too. I see this as being something that 90% of the time would feature option A being used almost exclusively but with the option to do other things too when needed or wanted.
  6. This is all sorts of awesome - huge kudos! Is there an idiot’s guide yo doing this with GIMP? I can get so far but can’t get it to transform to the shape of the template layer. Driving me slowly crazy (and I’m useless at using the software - which doesn’t help!) Working (very slowly) on a mod for Jan 84 and would love to use this style - fits in perfectly!
  7. Is it possible to have a worker debut with a percentage of the popularity from their blood relative. It would realistically capture situations where workers get a little immediate pop boost based on who they’re related to rather than just who they are and would be good if it was consistent. In a mod you can simulate this by having future workers debut with some popularity but for longer term games you’re rolling the dice on whether their blood relatives were able to get themselves over (and sustain it) which can create some odd situations. For example, I’m currently working on an early 80s mod where Mike Rotunda isn’t quite over yet outside of the SE - if I were to manually create some pop for his kids (Bo Dallas and Bray Wyatt) - I’d have to either give them a pop boost in an area where their dad hadn’t gotten over yet or just in the SE - which might be limiting them when they debut. Likewise, who knows Rotunda could go on to dominate the sport with IRS being the new Ric Flair as the game world plays out?! Likewise if The Rock debuted in 1984 in real life, he’d get a much bigger rub from being related to Rocky Johnson than he did in the mid 90s because Johnson was far more over in ‘84. My thought was that the new worker could receive 25% of the popularity of their most popular blood relative at debut in each area. (So if Dusty has a pop of 90 when Dustin debuts he’d get a starting pop of 23 whereas if he’s dropped to 75 by the time Cody debuts, and Dustin is below that figure too, Cody debuts with 19. And of course if Dustin is more over than Dusty when Cody debuts, his overness would be calculated based on Dustin’s rather than Dusty’s.
  8. Following on from the other thread around in-ring QOL tweaks, I thought I’d make one for the editor too as I’ve been (very slowly) trying to create a new RW database from scratch and have a few thoughts in this regard. 1. Tabbing between Data boxes for stats and pop - as it stands if you press tab, it will take you to the next box but it doesn’t highlight what is already there. This means you either have to highlight the contents yourself and press backspace or you have to hit delete - this is cumbersome and quickly becomes tiring if you are manually inputting every value (even if you use a quick fill there’s often a lot of tweaking you need to do. SUGGESTION: have the tab highlight the value automatically so you can just overwrite. 2. Add Chemistry, Worker Relations, Graduate; and Tag Team boxes to the Worker screen - when creating a worker and adding their details, it would be good to be able to add these details in a centralised place similar to the current way of being able to add contracts and alter egos. This would save a lot of clicking especially if the editor pre-populated part of the info for you (ie the worker who’s record you are in). 3. Add Create Quick Worker button to Chemistry, Worker Relations, Tag Team; and Title History screens. I’m thinking of a prompt where you generate a new worker with only their name so that you can add and complete the above functions when you don’t have the worker already per-populated. Saves you having to take notes, exit back to the main screen, scrolling to Workers, adding a new worker and then trying to go back to where you were. 4. Create a quick popularity fill option similar to the one in the skills screen. (E.g. you pick their perception level with up to three companies (which could all differ) and the editor auto folks based on their perception vs the popularity of the company vs the areas the company is popular in - saves time and helps balance the game world. 5. Estimated worker perception - similar to the size screen for companies, being able to hit a button for a worker and be told how he’d be perceived for each active company or in each area they’re active in would take a lot of the guess work out of creating a new data set.
  9. <p>This might’ve been suggested before so apologies if I’m treading old ground but I’d love to see some kind of pre-show report on how the crowd looks from one of your agents so you can alter your bookings to maximise response.</p><p> </p><p> For example: </p><p> </p><p> “The crowd have brought a lot of signs in support of Wrestler X”</p><p> “The crowd seems quite rowdy tonight - we might need to calm them down or they’ll burn out quickly”</p><p> “Lots of kids out there tonight”</p><p> “The crowd seems really flat tonight - might want to give them something to get buzzed about early”</p><p> </p><p> Etc.</p><p> </p><p> Each of these would represent something that you’d want to go differently when booking your show to capitalise it counteract the effect.</p><p> </p><p> This could be expanded upon by having specific venues attracting a ‘typical’ crowd - so when booking you’d know what type of show you’re going to put together for it (I’m thinking ECW arena) so the above noted would only appear when the crowd, differs from the norm.</p>
  10. Just a few that have sprung to mind now that I’ve started adding in the editor: Pursuit of Liberties: worker is more inclined to take liberties in the ring that could injure others if things aren’t going their way. Respects their elders: more likely to forge friendships with veteran workers than youngsters Move over grandpa: more likely to forge negative relationships with veterans as they pursue a higher place on the card. Alpha: a worker who demands respect in the backstage. More likely to form negative relationships with those who don’t show fealty or have low respect levels.
  11. Apologies if this is possible but I just couldn’t see it! Is it possible to add filters for workers to make mass editing easier? For example, for de-aging workers, you have to know who debuts when to avoid accidentally impacting the stats of your guys who haven’t debuted yet. Easy to do when you’ve got a dozen workers, when you’re trying to put a database back three years with 100s of workers? Not so easy! Would make editing much quicker and smoother if you could search by various criteria and then mass edit to correct things.
  12. Saturday Night's Main Event: Wrestlemania Revenge WWF Heavyweight Championship Match "Macho King" Randy Savage w/ "Sensational" Queen Sherri © vs. Jake "The Snake" Roberts Comments: Savage to retain with nefarious means The Final Battle? Hulk Hogan vs. Sgt. Slaughter **If Hulk Hogan wins, Sgt. Slaughter must leave the WWF. If Sgt. Slaughter wins, Hulk Hogan must salute the Iraqi flag and pledge his allegiance to Saddam Hussein** Comments: Hulkster saluting Iraq is unthinkable WWF Intercontinental Championship Match The Big Boss Man © vs. Kamala w/ Slick Comments: Nice start to Boss Man’s reign Match for the vacant WWF Tag Team Championship The New Foundation(Neidhart & Owen) vs. "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase and Sid Comments: A shock win for the Nugget over Ted and Bret to make the save. Grudge Match Terry Funk w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Kevin Von Erich Comments: Funkster is headed for Another feud I reckon Singles Match The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper Comments: Warrior interference somehow, someway makes this. Singles Match Mr. Perfect w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Bret Hart Comments: Trouble for The Heenan Family... the Perfect turn? Bonus Question(s) Will the masked man make an appearance? If yes, will his identity be revealed? If yes, who will it be? Answer(s): Yes he will appear, no he won’t be revealed... although I also think that a certain someone’s non appearance for WCW’s last pay per view will set up a KOTR clash with the Hulkster...
  13. <p>Can I just take a moment to come out of the shadows and say that this has been truly exceptional work to date? Seriously, huge kudos for what you’ve done thus far! Lots of logic and some neat twists on what we’re used to with diaries from this period (I’ve NEVER seen anyone turn Dino Bravo before! And to use it as the catalyst for forming the Natural Disasters? Good stuff)</p><p> </p><p> Anyway, predictions:</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> "Macho King" Randy Savage w/ "Senasational" Queen Sherri</p><p> </p><p> Comments: I think the Warrior would be better suited to his crusade against the jobbers on the card by working the undercard a little... Savage is more reliable and stable. It won’t be clean but Savage FTW.</p><p> </p><p> Hulk Hogan</p><p> </p><p> Comments: I can’t see Hogan and Warrior losing on the same card, Sarge has a role to play but I see him as someone to elevate others </p><p> </p><p> The Big Boss Man</p><p> </p><p> Comments: With those stips, it’s hard to portray Boss Man as anything other than a loser if he doesn’t take the W here.</p><p> </p><p> The Hart Foundation ©</p><p> </p><p> Comments: I’m predicting two other title changes so taking the Foundation to retain and send LOD over the edge into full blown heels. Post match destruction to keep the feud going.</p><p> </p><p> Virgil </p><p> </p><p> Comments: I’m going storyline here rather than ability</p><p> </p><p> Terry Funk</p><p> </p><p> Comments: Von Erich is too much of a risk to be pushing - Funkster has a myriad of feud options coming out of this.</p><p> </p><p> The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer</p><p> </p><p> Comments: Glorified squash as Taker continues his rise up the card.</p><p> </p><p> "Rowdy" Roddy Piper</p><p> </p><p> Comments: potentially a DQ to keep Sid strong but I can’t see Piper going down here.</p><p> </p><p> Jake "The Snake" Roberts & Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat</p><p> </p><p> Comments: This is screaming out as a potential shock turn for Jake and kickstarting what would be an epic feud... but I’m calling a clean win for the pair here and a slow burn as both look to challenge the new WWF Champion...</p><p> </p><p> The Natural Disasters, Kamala, Haku & The Barbarian</p><p> </p><p> Comments: more upside for the heels.</p>
  14. A few questions for Adam on the pre-booking if I may? Does the game take into account circumstances outside of your control in not delivering a pre-booked segment (e.g. worker gets injured or dies)? Is there any penalty or limitation on chopping and changing pre-booking (i.e. does the game ignore any pre-bookings that are removed or replaced as long as it’s done within the time constraints?) Can you pre-book further in advance than the next show and/or event or could you start to book your “Season Finale” show three months out while still also pre-booking the next smaller event (I’m thinking here of the build to Wrestlemania prior to the Rumble - you wouldn’t classify the Rumble as small or throwaway so keen to understand if it’s possible? Ideally treating the next Finale as a separate entity would allow real long term booking (eg Cena/Rock from a few years back) without impacting on the rest of your ore-booking. Do you have to pre-book all participants in a match or can we use mystery opponent or mystery partner(s)? Likewise can you pre-book someone’s participation in a multi man match without announcing everyone (e.g Royal Rumbles)? Sorry, that was a lot! Love the feature being brought back and want to understand the scope!
  15. Dust to Dust WWF 1991: Dust to Dust This story is set in an alternate timeline, one that commenced with two virtually simultaneous phone calls and resulted in an unlikely chain of events. The diary will take the format of a biographical set of memoirs on the life of Dusty Rhodes, written by his son Dustin and giving both Dusty and Dustin’s take on events. I will be using a modified version of justtxyank’s Rising Storms mod, turning the clock back to 1 December 1990, updating the WWF & WCW rosters. Rather than be blow for blow accounts of the shows and events themselves, I’ll be writing them up from the historical perspective as diary extracts with brief results (and ratings!). I’m trying something a little bit different in my writing here that I hope I can keep up – there will be the odd bit of promo in there of course, but for the most part it’s going to be ‘Person X challenged Person Y to a match’, ‘Wrestler A surprised Dusty with a strong performance and really moved up in his estimation’ etc. We’ll see how it goes, hopefully it’s not a disaster!  And now the preview post: An Extract from the Dusty Rhodes Biography “Dust to Dust” by Dustin Runnells, first published 2017. “The story of how my father came to be the Head Booker for the WWE, at the time WWF, is a funny one, even for the world of wrestling! After some determined lobbying, Dusty had managed to bring me on board and gave me the biggest break of my career to date. There’s no question that my dad went out to bat for me but what I didn’t realise until years later was just how much he put on the line to get me that shot. “The way Dusty tells it, he had gone along to Vince’s office in Stamford, Connecticut with one thing and one thing only on his mind – resigning. He’d smiled and danced in the polka dots long enough and Jim Herd had come calling – it was time to come home! Ole Anderson was slowly driving WCW into the ground with a horrendous Black Scorpion gimmick and all signs were that it was all smoke and mirrors – his grand reveal was looking to be a damp squib. Anyway, Dusty went into that room determined and left confused. Rather than putting his resignation in that early September morning, Dusty had walked away with his son, me, given a guest role in his feud with Ted DiBiase. “The DiBiase feud had saw the erosion of Dusty’s WWF character – losing his Sweet Sapphire sidekick and taking on a more sombre tone. The problem was that the fans had been conditioned to treat him as something of a joke – it was part of his reason for wanting to move on but Vince had convinced him that adding me to the mix would add pathos to the journey… I was to be used as fodder for a Ted DiBiase and Virgil beating that would bring great sympathy to Dusty but would leave me as little more than a jobber. Dusty objected and said that if Vince wanted to bring me in, he’d need to bring me in as an equal – someone to be reckoned with and someone with the potential to be a breakout star. Vince had laughed and agreed to give it a shot… he had seemed, in Dusty’s words, ‘Unusually Agreeable’ and it made him suspicious but he took it in on face value and prepared to leave when Vince laughed again and asked him to take a seat. “Sitting down, Dusty prepared himself for what he figured would be the price he had to pay – and not just to the Million Dollar Man – steeling himself that he should just put the resignation in and be done with it when Vince startled him with a brief statement “thing is Dusty, I’m in need of a favour…” This was unusual, particularly at this time, but Vince continued: “I’ve just had a call that, well, I won’t bore you with the details but it’s opened up a few unexpected opportunities and I need to know that everyone is on the team, you see what I’m saying?” “Vince went on to tell him that he’d had a call that would pull his time away from the wrestling business a little if things went to plan, that it was an exciting time but before he set-up how things were going to play out he just wanted to see that all of his main players, and that’s the exact words he used his main players, were still on board… It was too much for my dad, he had to be honest… He told Vince that Jim Herd had been in touch and that WCW wanted to bring him in, in January to take over the book. Dusty explained that they wanted him to walk out before the Royal Rumble but that’s not how he does business and that he would do the job to Ted or to Virgil or anyone else that Vince saw fit on the way out. “Visibly taken aback, Vince whistled and then laughed again. He thanked Dusty for his honesty, asked if his mind was made up and shook his hand. Grabbing his jacket, Dusty turned and went to leave the room when Vince stopped him in his tracks… ‘It’s a pity Dusty… a real pity because I feel like we’ve turned a corner you and me... I had wanted to ask your opinion on where we go in the next six months…’ “Was Vince McMahon, the owner and man with the plan in the WWF asking him, the son of the plumber, the former NWA World Champion, a man who had to virtually beg McMahon for a job after losing Crockett’s book? A man who had been demeaned and ridiculed for weeks, months on WWF TV and events? “Dusty had only one word in response: ‘Why?’ It was a good question, and McMahon admitted as much, in brief Vince had received a call only ten minutes before Dusty arrived from Hulk Hogan. Hogan had been on a chartered flight from Philadelphia to Los Angeles for a chat show appearance when he’d bumped into an old friend and colleague, Sylvester Stallone. Stallone had just wrapped filming some insert shots for Rocky V and was headed out to meet the money men in L.A. Stallone was bemoaning that his vision for the movie was slowly being unravelled – the financiers didn’t get what he was trying to do – he wanted Rocky to go back full circle and be closer to the vision (and critical success) of the original but it wasn’t panning out – the interference was such that he had no choice but to film and write scenes he was unhappy with. Apparently Stallone needed cash and needed it badly from someone who would be happy to work as a silent partner but he was struggling to find anyone who would want to take the financial risk for what would be little return, especially if the film wasn’t the success he wanted it to be. “And that’s where Vince came in… ever the opportunist, Hogan had asked Stallone to call Vince and give him the chance to see if he could help out… Vinnie Mac saw the opportunity without Hogan even having to point it out and bit his hand off! The result? Rocky V would take another four months to reach cinemas… and would have a pair of new Executive Producers in the shape of Vincent K. McMahon and Terry Boella… “So Vince now had one of the biggest action stars of the 1980s to call on for publicity purposes and, coincidentally, a massive show to take place in Los Angeles around the time of the film’s rescheduled release… but why was Vince telling Dusty this? Looking back on it now, and through talking to Dad about it? I think he was gloating… to begin with at least… I think Vince was putting the boot in that no matter what Dusty did and no matter what he had up his sleeve, he couldn’t match-up to the star power that would be on show at Wrestlemania VII that the WWF would use this event to springboard to the next level and WCW would be left in the dirt... After his story, Vince with a smug look on his face asked Dusty to pitch the next six months since he still fancied himself as a top level booker… Dusty thought about it for a brief instant, why would he reveal some of the plans that he could use to this jerk? Except as much as Vince might’ve been arrogantly crowing about what the WWF was going to achieve, he’d bargained without Dusty and that this was probably the last time he could look him in the eye and show him how good a booker he was and that whatever was going to happen would happen due to his skill, not through luck, not through chance, just pure unadulterated talent… “With a sly smile Dusty opened his mouth and began to talk, pretty small scale at first… but he kept talking, and talking, and talking – he told Vince of the minutia of plot points, of new match types, of shock twists and turns, new signings. He told him how he could really harness that star power, he told him everything that could ultimately destroy Dusty and WCW – he couldn’t help it! Once he started, there was no putting the genie back in the bottle, he wanted to show this man, this beast who had attempted to ruin his legacy that not only could he never stop him from being the People’s Champion, that he was no match for him with a pencil either… Vince’s expression went from smug, to confused, to excited, to captivated on a rolling basis, as Dusty reached his crescendo and outlined the main event of Wrestlemania, of the biggest wrestling event of all time, Vince was in slack jawed amazement – this was coming from the top of Dusty’s head! He hadn’t... he couldn’t have planned this! And yet here it all was, so much more coherent than anything that he and Pat had talked about… “When Dusty finished talking, Vince simply shook his head… ‘Is that it?’ bellowed with laughter and offered him a hand… ‘Whatever you do Dusty, don’t sign that deal… I’ll get back to you in a couple of days…’ “What did that even mean?! Dusty was a confused man alright… Next day at the Superstars taping he found an envelope in his personal locker, inside was a sealed contract for twelve months addressed to Dustin Rhodes, the other was another contract, an extension for six months… with the additional duties of Head Booker – effective 1 December 1990… within minutes the ink was dry and the wrestling business was never quite the same again… there was a Dust Storm coming…
