  1. p { margin:0; padding:0; line-height: 1.5em; } WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING SATURDAY WEEK 4, FEBRUARY 1992 WCW MAIN EVENT 1. Z-Man def. Pat Rose 2. Brian Pillman def. Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker 3. Can-Am Express def. Jim Boss & Van Hammer The final episode of World Championship Wrestling before WCW SuperBrawl II gave us hot matches and crazy segments. The main event saw Ricky Steamboat defeat Terrence Taylor in a preview of the tag team match at SuperBrawl between Steamboat & Dustin Rhodes and Taylor’s York Foundation mates, Thomas Rich & Richard Morton. Jim Ross interviewed Diamond Dallas Page, who gave the final build to his WCW World Heavyweight Championship match against the current titleholder, “The Franchise” Sting. In a huge preview of two title matches on the PPV, Ron Simmons and the Steiner Brothers faced The Dangerous Alliance trio of Larry Zbyszko, Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard. Simmons and Zbyszko are facing off for the WCW United States Championship, and a double tag team title match between WCW United States Tag Team champs Steiners and the WCW World Tag Team champs Anderson & Blanchard. In this six-man match, the referee completely lost control and was forced to call for the bell to declare a no-contest due to the competitors not following the tag rules. In a great opener (that will surely be a tape trader classic), Jushin “Thunder” Liger defended the WCW Light Heavyweight Championship over Eddy Guerrero from Mexican promotion CMLL. Later on the card, Japanese lucha libre pioneer Gran Hamada defeated Arachnaman, thereby earning a title match against Liger at the PPV. Hamada is credited with bringing the high-flying lucha libre style to his native Japan, where he now runs the Universal Lucha Libre promotion, giving smaller workers in Japan a place to thrive. Junkyard Dog had a heartfelt interview with Jim Ross, warning WCW World Television Champion Steve Austin that this old horse still has some kick. He said he’s taken Austin to his limit twice already, and the third time’s the charm come Sunday. Also, in a shocking video, it was announced that SuperBrawl would see the WCW debut of Meng. He is formerly known as Haku in the WWF. 1. WCW LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT: Jushin Liger © def. Eddy Guerrero (2nd defense) 2. 2. p { margin:0; padding:0; line-height: 1.5em; } WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING SATURDAY WEEK 3, FEBRUARY 1992 WCW MAIN EVENT 1. Can-Am Express def. Joey Maggs & Italian Stallion 2. Abdullah the Butcher def. Arachnaman 3. Brian Pillman def. Bob Cook A huge championship match main evented World Championship Wrestling, with Big Van Vader retaining the NWA World Heavyweight Championship over Dustin Rhodes in a fantastic match. Vader didn’t win the match clean however, as the York Foundation interfered just enough to distract Rhodes, allowing Vader to slam him for the win. Vader stood to the side as Thomas Rich and Richard Morton put the boots to Dustin Rhodes until Ricky Steamboat made the save. In the second semifinal of the mini WCW US title tournament following Rick Rude’s vacating of the title, Ron Simmons defeated Bobby Eaton as Larry Zbyszko watched from ringside. The two will meet at WCW SuperBrawl II to crown a new champion. Steve Austin and Junkyard Dog went to a second time limit draw in three weeks, therefore giving Steve Austin his sixteenth successful defense of the WCW World Television title. After the bell, Tony Schiavone exclaimed that he received word that a third match will take place at SuperBrawl with a special thirty minute time limit. Jim Ross also interviewed WCW World Heavyweight Champion Sting at ringside, leading to Diamond Dallas Page coming out and the two dueling on the mic. The match was then made official: Sting vs. Diamond Dallas Page for the world title at SuperBrawl! Additionally, a video package for the Can-Am Express tag team of Dan Kroffat & Doug Furnas aired, highlighting their victory in their debut on WCW Main Event the night prior. The two are veterans of the All Japan Pro Wrestling tag team division, and are coming back to America to take over WCW. 1. WCW WORLD TELEVISION: Steve Austin © DRAW Junkyard Dog (16th defense) 2. 3. Just curious here, did you watch the match before you commented on it? Perry had the crowd in the palm of his hand. They were living and dying by his every move, and by the end he had actually turned them in his favor. It was electric; the atmosphere was incredible.
  4. What's the point of commenting on the randomness and logic of something while simultaneously saying you don't watch? Three of the four women in the "fatal" four way have been feuding for quite some time and the winner gets a title shot at the fourth person in that feud. Struggling to wrap my head around how that's random whatsoever...?
  5. No, that many people did not only tune in for MJF. That is a take that is fabricated out of thin air.
  6. OOC: I sent Rick Rude to rehab after showing up high to TV. I might have been able to take the title off of him but putting him out there would probably be a bad idea. A rough two weeks for the top two champs, with Luger leaving and Rude being gone for the foreseeable future. Oh well, time to push those young guys now!
  7. p { margin:0; padding:0; line-height: 1.5em; } WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING SATURDAY WEEK 2, FEBRUARY 1992 WCW MAIN EVENT 1. Michael Hayes def. Todd Champion 2. Terry Gordy def. Marcus Alexander Bagwell 3. Brian Pillman def. George South Coming off the heels of Sting winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship from Lex Luger last week, the road to WCW SuperBrawl II truly began. In unfortunate news, Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone announced that due to injury, Rick Rude has been forced to relinquish the WCW United States Championship. There will be a four-man tournament to crown a new champion with the finals taking place at SuperBrawl. The first semifinal was tonight, with Larry Zbyszko defeating Big Josh. The other semifinal will be next week between Ron Simmons and Bobby Eaton. In the main event, Ricky Steamboat defeated York Foundation’s Thomas Rich, which led to an all-out brawl between Ricky Steamboat & Dustin Rhodes and Thomas Rich & Richard Morton. It seems as though they are on a collision course for the upcoming pay-per-view. The Steiner Brothers retained the WCW United States Tag Team Championships against Vinnie Vegas & The Diamond Studd, in small part due to the shenanigans at ringside. Diamond Dallas Page attempted to aid his Diamond Mine brethren, but was thwarted by Sting who ran down to the ring to prevent interference. The distraction gave Scott Steiner enough time to recover and roll up Diamond Studd, who was too busy watching what was going on at ringside. WCW World Tag Team Champions Anderson & Blanchard then came to the ring and confronted the Steiners, and both teams held their titles high in the air. Is there a double tag team title match upcoming? A promo aired for Harley Race and Big Van Vader. Vader has been tearing it up in both WCW and NJPW, fulfilling obligations as the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. After the video finished, Jim Ross was with Dustin Rhodes and announced that the two would face off next Saturday night in an NWA title match. Other happenings on the show included Barry Windham beating Cactus Jack in a wild brawl, and Steve Austin hyping up a WCW TV title rematch next week against Junkyard Dog. 1. 8. @edisraw1 3/4 @Old School Fan 3/4 @Nobby_McDonald 3/4 @Dawn 3/4 @StanMiguel 2/4 @newbiezness 2/4 @Vandal 2/4 @Hollywood 2/4 The returning talent was Terry Gordy, who became a two-time Triple Crown Champion for AJPW during his time away from WCW. Giant Baba's plan was to make him the next foreign ace after Stan Hansen, but a drug problem that ended his second title run permanently ended those plans. A really big "what if" in Japan. I actually tried signing both Steve Williams and Terry Gordy, since I love Dr. Death and I planned on having the two go on a long tag run (just like IRL in 1992) but AJPW signed Williams to an absurd exclusive contract even though I was trying for non-exclusive. I wanted Williams to be a main character in this diary but oh well. Maybe in 95 or something! As for the world title changing hands on TV, Luger put in his notice, and I had very limited time to take the title off of him. This was basically the only time it made sense, and losing it to the Stinger seemed like a perfect way to stabilize the title and WCW as a whole.
  9. p { margin:0; padding:0; line-height: 1.5em; } WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING SATURDAY WEEK 1, FEBRUARY 1992 WCW MAIN EVENT 1. Ricky Steamboat def. Steve Armstrong 2. Abdullah the Butcher def. Jim Boss 3. Dustin Rhodes def. Arachnaman A giant main event between two long-time friends and rivals, and WCW has a new world champion. After Luger’s shock return last week, the title match was made for the main event of this episode of World Championship Wrestling. It was a classic, with Sting picking up the clean win over Luger. His celebration would be short-lived however, as Diamond Dallas Page rolled into the ring and attacked Sting alongside Diamond Studd and Vinnie Vegas. The Steiners (who the Diamond Mine tag team will be facing next week) made the save for Sting, finally allowing Sting to celebrate his title win. As previously matched, Vinnie Vegas & Diamond Studd will be facing the Steiner Brothers in a WCW United States Tag Team title match next week, a challenge they earned by defeating Marcus Alexander Bagwell & Scott Armstrong in a number one contenders match. Steve Austin faced perhaps his toughest challenge yet in Junkyard Dog, but he retained the WCW World Television Championship after the fifteen-minute time limit expired. The two were in the middle of trading punches as the bell sounded, but they continued throwing shots after the bell until they were both too exhausted to continue. This week’s World Championship Wrestling also saw the return of Terry Gordy to the promotion, as he picked up a victory over The Italian Stallion. Gordy was last seen in WCW in 1989. Since then, he has become a two-time Triple Crown Heavyweight Champion in All Japan Pro Wrestling. He looked dominant, and will surely be a force to be reckoned with going forward. There was also a hype video for Big Van Vader with a voiceover from Harley Race. 1. Diamond Mine (Diamond Studd & Vinnie Vegas) def. Marcus Alexander Bagwell & Scott Armstrong 2. Terry Gordy def. 10. Super interested in how you handle this, since most modern UWF-style matches IRL are cheap imitations of days of old, or just flat-out bad. I have faith this will go way better than GLEAT's UWF stuff. 😀 Nakajima (the best wrestler in Japan right now, and the TC champ ain't losing a singles match here) Suzuki (Kind of a toss-up but Suzuki is a good opponent for Nakajima) Barnett/Sakuraba DRAW (That Doesn't Work For Me, Brother) Abe (I almost want to go Nomura as a future-focused pick, but Abe is otherworldly at the moment) Hashimoto (maybe this is the future-focused pick. Feels wrong picking against Ishikawa though) TM4/Tanaka/Kashin (completely random pick, choosing based solely on my affinity for Tanaka) Babatunde/Low-Ki (insane match here lol)

  12. Moxley and Danielson worked a total of three hardcore-stip matches together in AEW. May 2022, May 2023, December 2023 (the final was a tribute match that wasn't all that crazy). I wish I lived in the reality where Moxley and Danielson spent months doing outlaw mudshow matches together. That sounds awesome.

  14. p { margin:0; padding:0; line-height: 1.5em; } WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING SATURDAY WEEK 4, JANUARY 1992 WCW MAIN EVENT 1. Cactus Jack def. Bill Kazmaier 2. Brian Pillman def. Bob Cook 3. Dustin Rhodes def. Firebreaker Chip A snappy-but-newsworthy episode of World Championship Wrestling aired this past Saturday night. If the wild six-man tag team main event wasn’t enough, the WCW World Champion Lex Luger made his return after the match. After Sting, Barry Windham and Z-Man defeated the Diamond Mine group of Diamond Dallas Page, the Diamond Studd and Vinnie Vegas, the losers jumped the winners. Lex Luger then made his triumphant return and stood next to his storied friend and rival, Sting. But as they stood tall, he turned and knocked out Sting with a punch! He then dispatched Pillman and Z-Man and yelled at Sting some more. Jim Ross then entered the ring and asked what Lex Luger is doing, and Luger responded by saying that he will see Sting next Saturday night! The other big news was the Steiner Brothers winning the WCW United States Tag Team titles from The Young Pistols, and they did it in quick fashion. This is Rick & Scott Steiner’s third run with the belts. Junkyard Dog earned a bit of revenge on the York Foundation, scoring a victory over Richard Morton despite interference from Thomas Rich at ringside. After the match, JYD challenged Steve Austin to a TV title match, and said he hoped for an answer tonight. Steve Austin then made defense number fourteen of the WCW World Television title with a win over Johnny B. Badd, before accepting the challenge from JYD. 1. 15. I noticed that CMLL's Japan pop being 30 across the board allows the AI to sign on with TV Osaka, which leads to them (at least in this save) reaching 72 pop in Japan by mid 1996. Thought this was worth mentioning.
  16. p { margin:0; padding:0; line-height: 1.5em; } WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING SATURDAY WEEK 3, JANUARY 1992 WCW MAIN EVENT 1. Brian Pillman def. Bob Cook 2. Cactus Jack def. Sonny Trout 3. Z-Man def. Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker Major news coming out of this week’s episode of World Championship Wrestling, as we have new WCW World Tag Team Champions. Dustin Rhodes and Ricky Steamboat said they didn’t want to wait to take on Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard after Blanchard’s return at Clash on Tuesday, so they would put the belts on the line in the main event. This turned out to be a mistake, thanks to the help of Paul E. Dangerously. A whack with the cellular phone on Dustin Rhodes, along with the continued distractions by Bobby Eaton and Larry Zbyszko, gave Anderson & Blanchard enough leverage to take the victory and steal the titles. The Dangerous Alliance, led by the dastardly Paul E. Dangerously, now hold the world tag team titles, the US title, and the television title. After Diamond Dallas Page’s attack on Sting at Clash of the Champions, Sting took on and defeated The Diamond Studd in singles action. After the match, a six-man tag team match between The Diamond Mine, and Sting’s team of Sting, Barry Windham, and Z-Man was made for next week. The monster Big Van Vader continued his hot streak, destroying The Italian Stallion with ease. Harley Race hyped up his monster after the match, claiming that there is no man in the world that can stop him. After the attack on Junkyard Dog last week, Thomas Rich & Richard Morton defeated JYD and Van Hammer with Rich picking up the pin on Hammer. Steve Austin also defeated Big Josh to retain the WCW World Television Championship. 1. York Foundation (Ricky Morton & Thomas Rich) def. Junkyard Dog & Van Hammer 2. Big Van Vader def. 18. p { margin:0; padding:0; line-height: 1.5em; } WCW CLASH OF THE CHAMPIONS XVIII TUESDAY WEEK 3, JANUARY 1992 A jam-packed crowd in Charlotte, NC filled the stands as WCW Clash of the Champions XVIII was broadcast LIVE on TBS. Three huge championship matches highlighted the card, with Rick Rude retaining his WCW United States Heavyweight title over Barry Windham in a great main event. It wasn’t without controversy however, as the Dangerous Alliance made their presence known at ringside. Ron Simmons came out to try to help but wasn’t quite enough as Paul E’s whack of his cell phone across Windham’s face behind the referee’s back was enough to score the win for his man. Jushin “Thunder” Liger defeated Brian Pillman to keep the WCW Light Heavyweight Championship in his possession. This was a fantastic match, and one that Pillman looked to have in the bag until Liger rolled him up. The Great Muta was unable to take the WCW World Television title away from Steve Austin, who made defense number twelve here. Sting defeated Abdullah the Butcher to hopefully put the big man behind him, and then after the match he spoke about world title aspirations in 1992. However, the interview was cut short as Diamond Dallas Page walloped him from behind and put the boots to him. DDP then stated that he is tired of his Diamond Mine (which includes Vinnie Vegas & Diamond Studd) being overlooked, so he is aiming for the “franchise” of WCW in Sting. In big news coming out of the show, Tully Blanchard is back in World Championship Wrestling. He returned during the Arn Anderson and Dustin Rhodes match, clotheslining Rhodes covertly and allowing his longtime friend and tag team partner Arn Anderson to pick up the victory. Steamboat then brawled with Blanchard before Anderson came to his friend’s aid, beating down the tag team champions. In an interview later in the night, Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard stated they were going after the WCW World Tag Team Championships. NWA World Heavyweight Champion Big Van Vader and El Gigante went at it in a nontitle match, with Vader coming out on top in a fairly quick match. 1. Sting def. Abdullah the Butcher 2. 20. p { margin:0; padding:0; line-height: 1.5em; } WCW CLASH AT THE CHAMPIONS XVIII PREVIEW A stacked edition of Clash of the Champions hit TBS stations this Tuesday, with six action-packed matchups from the best pro wrestling promotion in America. Rick Rude puts his WCW United States Championship on the line against Barry Windham in a match earned by Windham following his team’s victory in the six-man tag team match on World Championship Wrestling this past Saturday. This will be Rude’s fourth defense of the title he won from Sting in November 1991. If he wins, this will be Windham’s second reign with the championship, last holding it in 1989. “The Franchise” Sting faces rival Abdullah the Butcher in what will be surely be a brawl for the ages. The two have been trading attacks the last few weeks, and the winner here will certainly be moving into championship contention. Steve Austin will defend the WCW World Television Championship against former champion The Great Muta from New Japan Pro Wrestling in Muta’s return match to WCW. Every time Muta appears in WCW, he receives more support from the WCW faithful, so Austin will not have the crowd on his side in this one. Brian Pillman challenges Jushin “Thunder” Liger for the WCW Light Heavyweight title. Brian Pillman was the inaugural champion before losing the title to Jushin Liger last month. Arn Anderson and Dustin Rhodes settle their differences in singles action. Anderson attacked Rhodes during his match with Bobby Eaton two weeks ago, and then was part of the crew who brutalized him during an interview last week, which kept him out of the main event of the show that night. This has all the makings of a grudge match. In a match between two behemoths, NWA World Heavyweight Champion Big Van Vader takes on El Gigante in a nontitle match. Vader aims to continue his hot streak, while El Gigante hopes to score a huge upset and establish himself as a force to be reckoned with in WCW. WCW UNITED STATES TAG TEAM: Young Pistols (Tracy Smothers & Steve Armstrong) © def. WCW Patriots (Firebreaker Chip & Todd Champion) (4th defense) The go-home show for Clash at the Champions XVIII featured a huge six-man tag team main event with Barry Windham’s WCW United States Heavyweight Championship challenge against Rick Rude hanging in the balance. Paul E’s trio of Arn Anderson, Bobby Eaton & Larry Zbyszko was originally going to take on Barry Windham, Brian Pillman and Dustin Rhodes, a team handpicked by Windham. Before the match however, Rick Rude and Arn Anderson took out Rhodes during an interview segment, leading to a three-on-two match. Fortunately for Windham, when Pillman was in peril and he was on the floor, who would even the odds but Ron Simmons, who sprinted to the ring and received the hot tag from Pillman, cleaning house and standing tall. Shortly after, Dustin Rhodes came to the ring and distracted the referee, allowing Barry Windham to score the pinfall over Zbyszko, thereby securing a title match against Rick Rude on Tuesday at Clash. Sting and Abdullah the Butcher’s wild rivalry continued, with Sting returning the favor from last week by going after Abby after his match against Joey Maggs. Sting again stood tall, albeit with a cut under his eye courtesy of Abby’s signature fork. The York Foundation made their presence known, with Thomas Rich & Richard Morton laying out Junkyard Dog after JYD beat Terrence Taylor in singles action. A couple championship matches were announced for Clash: The Great Muta returns to WCW to take on Steve Austin for the WCW TV title, and Jushin Liger will defend the WCW Light Heavyweight title against Brian Pillman. In other action, NWA World Heavyweight Champion Big Van Vader destroyed PN News, and the Steiner Brothers defeated Marcus Bagwell & Scott Armstrong in the opener. 1. The Steiner Brothers def. Nobuhisa Yasutake is probably the best unemployed native heavyweight to bring in.
  23. I'm not sure there is any better "comfort food" wrestling than early 90s WCW. It's hard to describe, but it's just a great company and time period to put on and watch some good matches.
  24. OOC: All feedback welcome as always I've already played through May and typed up every show until then (roughly 23 pages of shows), due to the style I'm utilizing here that hits the important notes of TV and then going a little more in-depth for the PPVs. I'm running with just WCW Main Event and World Championship Wrestling as the TV shows, since the IRL taping schedule at this time was absolutely insane and impossible to replicate in TEW, as any fan of 92 WCW can attest to. Syndicated shows, matches being replayed, etc. One A-show and one B-show seemed enough. I'll occasionally do a post like this to touch on important subjects behind-the-scenes that don't fit in kayfabe. Like for instance, WCW Champ Lex Luger starts the game on hiatus due to how his WCW contract worked with limited dates that he hit at the end of 1991. He won't appear for at least a month.
