It is the first professional MMA organization to present MMA in a format in which individual athletes compete in a regular season, “win-or-go-home” post-season, and championship. PFL debuted its inaugural season on June 7, 2018 at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY. In 2018, each champion in the six weight classes won a championship prize of $1 million each.

REGULAR SEASON

Fight Format and Point System

PFL uses the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts regulated by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The League uses a unique ten-sided (decagon) cage for their events.

The eight fighters with the most points in each weight class advance will advance to the playoff rounds. The point system consists of outcome-based scoring and bonuses for an early win. Under the outcome-based scoring system, the winner of a fight receives three points and the loser receives zero points. If the fight ends in a draw, both fighters will receive one point. The bonus for winning a fight in the first, second, or third round is three points, two points, and one point, respectively. For example, if a fighter wins a fight in the first round, the fighter will receive six total points.

RULES

WEIGHT CLASSES

This season will have 10 divisions

MEN´S

- Cruiserweight (230 lbs - 206 lbs

- Light Heavyweight (205 lbs - 196 lbs

- Super Middleweight (195 lbs - 186 lbs)

- Super Welterweight (175 lbs - 171 lbs)

- Super Lightweight (165 lbs - 155 lbs)

- Bantamweight (135 lbs - 126 lbs)

- Flyweight (125 lbs - 116 lbs)

WOMEN´S

- Featherweight (145 lbs - 136 lbs)

- Bantamweight (135 lbs - 126 lbs)

- Strawweight (115 lbs - 106 lbs)

NUMBER OF FIGHTERS

There will be 12 fighters per division.

INJURIES AND REPLACEMENTS

PFL will have a pool of alternate fighters to draw from in the event that one of the 12 fighters in each division suffers an injury that prevents him from continuing.

- Alternates will make show/win amounts and their fights will count towards the final playoff totals.

- In the event that one of the 12 fighters is deemed ineligible for his first fight, the 13th fighter will be added as a replacement.

- In the event that the commission deems fighter A unfit to compete, the PFL will book an alternate fighter to compete against fighter B. In the event that there is no time to book an alternate, fighter B will be awarded a Walkover (three points) as well as his win.

MISSING WEIGHT

If an athlete misses weight for a regular season fight, they will forfeit 15 percent of their purse. The athlete will still be able to compete – contingent up other fighter agreeing – but will earn zero points for that match.

If that athlete misses weight a second time during the regular season, they will be removed from the competition for the season.

If the Athletic Commission calls off a fight – for any reason – the fighter who is unable to compete will earn zero points while their opponent, will be awarded a three points.

Walkover example: Fighter A is facing fighter B in the first round of the regular season.

Fighter A becomes ill and is not medically cleared to fight by the state athletic commission. If a suitable replacement opponent is not secured, Fighter B will be awarded three points.

Any fighter that fails to make their contracted weight during the playoff or championship round will be ruled ineligible and removed from the competition. The next seeded alternate (9,10,11,12,alternate fighter) will be summoned to join the season and take the fight.

SEASON SCORING

Scoring is calculated as follows (Points awarded is first number):

WIN:

Knockout/Submission - 3 Points

Unanimous Decision - 3 Points

Split Decision - 3 Points

Walkover - 3 Points

Draw - 1 Point

LOSS:

Decision - 0 Points

Other than Decision - 0 Points

Bonus for early finish (Points awarded is first number):

Three Round Fights:

Round 1 - 3 Points

Round 2 - 2 Points

Round 3 - 1 Points

REGULAR SEASON TO PLAYOFF TIEBREAKERS

In the event that two or more fighters are tied in number of points after their two regular season bouts, we will go to the following tie breakers in order to set the playoff seeding accordingly.

1.
