  1. Julia Hart was never quite a skill less manager. She's very young at 21 (AEW's youngest until Nick Wayne officially debuts next week, I'm pretty sure), and she is noticeably better than she was in her initial babyface cheerleader semi-valet days a couple of years ago. Her character work has especially improved by leaps and bounds with the House of Black. She's arguably still in a semi-valet role, as she doesn't wrestle on TV that often. More often simply escorting HoB. As for cheering for heels and all the rest, I mean...welcome to the post kayfabe/smart mark era, my brother. People root for their favorites regardless of alignment or skill level just because they like 'em. I dunno what to tell you. I mean, you've been here longer than me. I'm sure you know the lay of land of this front better than I do. I mean that as respectfully as possible.
  2. Is it gonna happen? Do I get a lovely birthday present? Is The League going to return on Saturday? Or will the tumbleweeds continue to tumble for one more week?
  3. The tumbleweeds tumble in the offseason. The tumbleweeds tumble in the offseason. The tumbleweeds tumble. Oh, the tumbleweeds tumble. The tumbleweeds tumble in the offseason. Best of luck with FF16, boss. It's apparently pretty neat.
  4. So these five are definitely in Omega, right? Lance Heartilly is probably not, yet. Three or four season wait, and it's only been two. I think the discrepancies between seasons can be partially explained, as you said, by the difference in point allocation. The other, as you don't have the strict versus records anymore, is probably the biases built into the game's systems. The following are my opinions, please don't take them as gospel truth. I've told you before Stamina is the God Stat. The lower the wrestler's stamina, the easier it is to hit moves on them. But it's deeper than that. Pure highflying is deeply suboptimal compared with power, brawling, or technical grappling. The To Hit of most Top Rope, Springboard, and Slingshot moves is kind of awful compared with relatively equivalent moves from other spots. Especially considering missing one of them is an excellent way to not only lose control, but take damage, get stunned, and be down on the mat. Miss a finisher from the top rope, and you're probably losing. Moreover, high fliers have to invest in Speed and Athleticism, the latter of which does nothing but qualify characters to use moves. Speed has uses defensively but mostly doesn't help offensively like Striking, Grapple, and Ground do. Futhermore, technical grappling is the easiest way to wear down momentum, which adds increasing penalties against non Low moves the less there is and bonuses for all non Low moves the more there is. It's also the only move suite with moves that directly attack Stamina. I've not really exploited that with Molina (I have a different guy who uses that gimmick, and it's nasty), but otherwise his success hasn't been the biggest surprise. So, you know. Technical grappling is best, I think brawling/striking is second because every move doesn't necessary drop the opponent to the ground, power is a close third, and high flying is dead last. You know, in terms of optimal character building strategies. With that said, optimal isn't always the most fun which is why I have both Lucas Molina the submission technician, Kichi Hida the brawling flyer, , and another pair down in Omega who may or may not get up here next season. Joslin Baroni the tiny flier and Rock Sheridan the literally giant brawler.
  5. Delta Division Commentary Christian Priest is a beast. Only two people beat him, and only one of them did it twice. He will not have to deal with Monty Dhillon in Gamma, so he'll likely run roughshod over the division. He may not have started well, but after that 0-2 start he only lost once. That's a promotion winning effort. Can't wait for Molina and Priest to collide again, bud. Cheers. Devil's Delight was a jobber, yes, but given she was expected to be the bottom basement jobber this season she's arguably had a good season. This doesn't mean she was any good, really, or any threat to promote next season. In fact, she's only avoiding relegation on a technicality from the League's ownership/managers. With that said, I'm looking forward to seeing how she progresses in her second season. And whether it's enough to stave off relegation on her own merits, as I don't believe she'll be protected a second time. Jimmy Anarchy, however, is gone. This season's bottom basement jobber. Beaten up by basically everyone, he is banished to Omega. He will not be missed. Kichi Hida is the first of my PCs. Honestly, I don't know where the wheels fell off. She lost her last five matches. I never expected her to promote, however. She's my "fun" PC, more or less. With that said, Molina and Priest are gone. So her, Dhillon, and Silver are the top candidates to take the division next season. We will see how it goes. Rest assured, her violent style will remain unchanged. Lucas Molina is my other PC, who was as dominant as Priest. He just kept winning. A fluke loss to Abernathy barely slowed him down. Priest evened things up, and then he swept Dhillon and basically guaranteed his promotion. Just a casual juggernaut. He shouldn't slow down much in Gamma, either. Though I won't say that he'll win the division outright, he's got an excellent chance to promote again. Monty Dhillon was also monstrous and dominant. Like Priest, he lost to two people. Unlike Priest, he lost to Kichi and Molina twice each. Peel one of those off, and he's actually the one who promotes. So hell, yes he's going to win the division this season. Everyone else is competing for second. To make it clear, he swept everyone else in the division but my PCs. I doubt anybody can stop him from getting the division title. Lord Robert Abernathy was...look, he did a lot of jobbing, okay? With Delight not being relegated, it's his head on the chopping block next to Anarchy. He had plenty of opportunities to do better. He did not. I don't know if he's gone, but I do know I wouldn't miss him much. Sterling Silver I view as Kichi's rival. She's perfect mid table wrestler. Good enough to beat the jobbers (except Delight, who swept her) but not quite enough to challenge the elite in the division. With that said, tough to be mid table if the top is gone. With Molina and Priest promoted, she will compete (mostly likely strongly) for that second promotion spot. I have...doubts about El Tornado and Jun Onoo doing anything interesting other than jobbing some more.
  6. And finally, Delta time. Commentary in following post, as usual now. I'm not going to be quite as objective, seeing as how two of mine were in this division. 7. Gamma Division Commentary What is there to say about Brian Blackfield that hasn't already been said in the recaps? He had a monstrously dominant season, beat everybody at least once and most twice. Only a fluke loss to Gibson mars a nearly flawless campaign. Being submitted by Rodriguez is something nobody ought to be ashamed of. And the odds are pretty decent that he's about to do it all over again in Beta. The two people who would give him the hardest time promoted out of the division. So Beta is his for the taking, and I don't think anybody can stop him. Diamond (and her handler) have to be frustrated with the way this season went. She just couldn't find any consistency, and actually had to fight off relegation a bit. the First Lady of The League has to be wondering how it all went so wrong. She started 3-1, after all. I'd point directly to the 4 match loss streak right after this, featuring two losses to Indigo Rose. Someone she ought to be able to beat, normally. She's still mid table for Season 10, and if she can pull it together, can easily contend for a promotion spot. Time will tell. Diego Rodriguez is probably Blackfield's most prominent hater. Yes, more than Yoshi. Because someone weaker than Blackfield would have opened the way for Diego to promote. A 9-5 season is nothing to be ashamed of. He was, frustratingly, just a bit short. One less ugly loss to a a lesser division light (like Indigo Rose, or Gibson), or if he'd managed to take one for Yoshii he'd have been right in the convo for the second spot. Still, this season Blackfield and Yoshi are gone. Who knows how well Molina and Priest will measure up to them. Maybe this time, he can do it. It's weird. Erick Gibson feels like a fraud. He's got the wins over big names and small. But 8-6 just feels wrong. Like he lucked out by Diamond having a down season even though she still swept him. I dunno, man. it just feels like he should be 6-8 instead. I can't explain it. It feels like he lucked into those wins over Blackfield, Yoshii, and Rodriguez. If he also does well this season, maybe he'll convince me he's legit. Otherwise I dunno. Indigo Rose feels similar. Ought to be 4-10, not 6-8. Unlike Gibson, this is directly a result of her sweeping Diamond and stealing one from Rodriguez. She managed to skate this season, but the next may see her relegated. It's like a Wasserman situation, if you've read the Beta commentary already. The jobbers coming in from above are worse, but she's still got to keep her game up to maintain her position. No chance she contends for promotion. Jun Onoo has been deservedly relegated. Bad stamina, one dimensional, no advantages over anyone he can't overpower the whole way. Lost 4 straight to get relegated, including winnables in Gibson and Rose. Enjoy getting your ass kicked by Dhillon and Kichi, bud. Hell, Sterling Silver will probably kick your ass, too. El Tornado has only one win. He jobbed to everyone extra hard. He can also enjoy getting his ass kicked by Dhillon, Kichi, and Silver. If anybody's going directly to Omega next season, it's this guy. Yoshii Nakamatsu ought to feel robbed. Rodriguez probably hates Blackfield more, but Yoshii definitely has his own grudge. He was very clearly the class of hte division after Season 8. And Blackfield turned him into a speed bump on the way to the division title. Everything but that ugly loss to El Tornado he did right. 10-4 as a record literally won the League Championship this season. But Blackfield is virtually unstoppable (sweeping him in the process), and now Yoshii is stuck with him again in Beta. And, if I'm right, the season after in Alpha. But you know, we'll see how it goes.

  9. Beta Division Commentary Before I get started, I just want to say that the big weird thing for me in Beta was three out of four division leaders (Gross, Simmons, & Ouilette) had an ugly loss to one of what I'm calling the Jobber Trio (Wasserman, Clay, & Stevens), while Billy Norris (the other division leader) swept all three. Weird stuff. Moving on. Angela Wasserman was, as I just said, one of the Jobber Trio. But probably the best of the three, dubious honor that it is. She was just good enough not to get relegated. Barely. And you know, I think she'll survive Season 10, too. Pulsar and Big Scott Weathers are just as jobbery, and she's perhaps a step better when it counts. What she is not, however, is any threat to promote. God, no. Billy Norris is Beta's symbol of perseverance. Just couldn't get it together in the early running, then ripped off four wins to get into contention. I'll maintain, however, that's a bit fraudulent, as three were finishing his sweeps of the Jobber Trio. But, with Gross and Simmons promoted, he has an opportunity. Whether Blackfield and Yoshi will let him use it is another matter. Press X to Doubt, says EP. He'll be a threat, I think, but again fall just short. Unless he pulls out some new tricks. Blood River is an enigma. He's not a promotion threat, but he's not a jobber, either. He's has surprising wins and ugly losses. I don't get it. He showed perseverance too after that 2-5 start, but eh. He's a mystery. He'll probably stay at mid table, barring some new tricks. Daniel Simmons was one ugly loss away from being the division champion. He's still promoted, but that loss to Wasserman has to sting. Otherwise he did what champions are supposed to do. He beat who he's supposed to beat. He looked almost invincible in the first half, going 6-1. He came back to Earth in the second, but that hot first half kept him in and got him promoted. Next challenge: Alpha Division. Jean-Paul Ouilette has to be kicking himself. He fell just short. He did almost everything right. Except getting swept by Gross and that ugly loss to Stevens, he could have promoted. Well, he's still here. And now has to deal with Brian f'n Blackfield and Yoshi Nakamatsu. Super. Like Billy Norris, he's got a shot. But I doubt it. Markus Clay is the second member of the Jobber Trio, and his relegation is most deserved. He didn't start awfully, going 3-4. However, he finished the season with six straight losses. One win in that stretch would have saved him, but he couldn't do it. Take thy self to Gamma, loser. Job to Molina, Priest, and Rodriguez. Does Reverend Johnny Gross have an ugly loss on his resume this season? Yes, to Clay above. But short of that he was dominant. Everybody got choked out and sent to see the Lord. 11-3 is a fine job. He returns to Alpha. The question is, will this be his revenge tour or is he still out of his depth up there? I'm betting he's not. I don't even want to talk about Terrence Stevens. He's the last of the Jobber Trio. He lost 11 times. He didn't win until Week 7. Go away, loser. Job to Molina, Priest, and Rodriguez. Get sent to Delta after. Bye.

  11. This. Is. DATAAAAAA. Specifically, week by week win loss tracking and individual schedules. Observe! This post is for Alpha Division. I'm working on Beta next, followed by Gamma and Delta. His relegation is well deserved. 3-4 followed by 0-7 gets you the boot, Scotty. Brandy McDonald had a good season, but not quite a championship caliber one. If she got a second win against anyone else in the division but Big Scott Weathers and Pulsar and she'd probably still be champ. 5-2 was a fine start, but a 4-3 wasn't gonna cut it against the hard charging Nuclear Templeton. De'siree Mitchell, ultimately, was a bit of a fraud as a championship contender. She ripped off six wins to get into contention, but two of those were against Pulsar and one was against Big Scott Weathers. The Mastodon and Nuclear Templeton both swept her, which doomed her. If this didn't happen, the championship chase looks very different. George Mastachas somehow managed to get swept by Pulsar. That four match losing streak in the second half hurt him, too, but that was his fellow championship contenders and the Rampage of Mel O'Hallister. Seriously, if he'd swept Pulsar like he should have, he'd be tied with Nuke at 10-4 and tiebreakers would be deciding the title. Damn shame. For him. Calling it now, The Mastodon is getting relegated next season. 3 of his 7 wins are against wrestlers who are got relegated. Nuke and Mastachas swept him, and the two replacing the relegated both have submssion finishers, negating one of his biggest advantages. Brandy was a hairsbreadth away from sweeping him, too. He's done. Mel O'Hallister was Alpha's perseverance story this season. 3 straight losses? No problem, he'll go get 3 straight wins. 3 straight losses again and staring relegation in the face? Activate Rampage Mode and not lose again all season. Season 10 will be interesting for him. I think he'll contend for the title. Why, you ask? He swept Nuke and showed he could beat the top contenders (except for De'siree). What can be said about Nuclear Templeton? He did what a champion is supposed to do. Started out 4-3, ended 6-1. He beat who he needed to beat. Swept who he needed to sweep. And got the belt. He's got his work cut out for him as far as repeating goes. Johnny Gross looked unstoppable at times down in Beta. Daniel Simmons also looked great. He has to find a way to beat Brandy again, and Mel at all. It's gonna be interesting. Pulsar's season was a bag of ugh. Jobbed out mercilessly by everyone. Except somehow he proved to be Mastachas's kyrptonite by sweeping him. Weird as hell. But yeah his relegation is deserved. Everyone else but Scott Weathers swept him. Goodbye, get ready to continue jobbing, this time to Blackfield, Yoshi, and Billy Norris.
  12. Gave, he says. I was under the distinct impression that I took those wins. 😛 As for Yoshii...c'mon let the two Japanese League members work together. If it was Blackfield you can friggin' have him back. *mutters and grumbles in annoyance* Anyway, looking forward to Molina and Priest dominating Gamma too. And Blackfield dominating Beta. And and the high likelihood that Dhillon and Hida are the top contenders to promote out of Delta next time. And and and the wild season that Alpha's gonna have. Beta's best two slide into a division where the worst not relegated went 7-7. Combined with the good Reverend seeking redemption for his previous relegation? Gonna be a good season over in Alpha, whew.

  15. I'd say there a pretty big difference between not being professional enough to do a thing (as Swanton put it) and too unprofessional to do that thing (as Blonde Bomber did). The former is understandable, but the latter can be seen as kind of a stealth insult. Seriously, professionalism is one thing, but if one side simply doesn't trust the other working a match is going to be nearly impossible. It's not like real sports or theatre. Wrestlers put each other's lives, health, and livelihoods in their colleagues' hands every time they step in the ring. I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I'd be hesitant to place my physical safety in the hands of someone I had a negative relationship with. Especially if it had previously escalated to a physical altercation. Sometimes people get along so poorly that they can't work together. You see it every day in jobs that don't require that aforementioned level of trust. Refusing to work with someone you hate is one thing, but someone you don't trust not to hurt you? I dunno, man.

  17. Takeshita and Bandido has only been signed for about six months. As far as I know, Hijo del Vikingo isn't signed at all. Just a loaner because of the good relationship AEW and AAA have. Takeshita's been in high profile matches with top stars and made to look good. This is starting to happen with Bandido (I think he had a visa issue or something that prevented him from working earlier?). Vikingo had his debut match not two months ago, and is again, not actually signed as far as I know. For me at least, as a long time watcher, the first two are clearly being worked into the rotation of guys being used. With a third show possibly on the horizon and even a pseudo brand split, there will definitely been more room for guys to shine on TV. Now if you want to talk about what's going with say, Rush, well...Andrade's incident and injury have clearly shafted him, as plans were quite obviously changed from whatever Los Ingobernales was going to get up to. Preston Vance not blossoming as expected has also likely hurt him. TK likes actions, and being down a faction mate with the other being kind of mid makes it rough to give a push one guy. Still. Why Rush hasn't showed up as a challenger for the All-Atlantic/International or TNT title is a mystery to me. Aside from the "Rush never wants to lose" thing, maybe? I dunno.

  19. Perhaps it is as you say, condolences are not in order here. I don't know the first thing about your whole situation, and I'm not asking. it is your business. I don't need to know. However, you may have as many internet hugs as you desire. Whether they're condolence hugs, sympathy hugs, encouragement hugs, praise for enduring so well hugs, or a type I've left out is entirely up to you.
  20. Sammy is a man fast approaching his 30th birthday, and he acts like he's a decade younger. That's really the thing that rubs everyone the wrong way, including me. Even on his vlog he's like this. I mean, he doesn't seem like a bad guy. On his vlog he seems to be a pretty decent guy. His friends and wife like him fine, and that speaks for him being that pretty decent guy. But he strikes me as a guy who hasn't quite figured out how or simply doesn't want to finish growing up. I'm not talking about being serious all the time, dropping certain hobbies, or anything like that. It's more ephemeral than that. I mean, we're all just a bunch of kids who got older and are faking it until we make it. It's just with most folks you can't see the kid poking out half the time. I really don't know how to explain it any better, but hopefully I'm making sense to somebody here. Sometimes he seems like one of hte youngest members of the roster despite the fact that he's about to be 30, you know?
