My favorite thing to do with TCW is to take advantage of their location.

Here's what I mean. Canonically, they're in California. I have their HQ right in mid-city LA, one of the most diverse urban areas in the US. Thus, I make some product changes. In order to appeal more to the Spanish-speaking element who might otherwise watch SotBPW, I go to medium (sometimes high) lucha libre and hire guys like Mr. Lucha III, El Mitico, Sunburst, Gino Montero, etc. I also up Hardcore to medium to grab the fans of IPW and GSW and get some of their biggest stars--if you can get him actual ring skill, Fro Sure is incredible. I go out of my way to push an ethnically diverse roster--after all, people are more likely to watch a wrestling show with a star who looks like them. While I keep risqué and comedy minimal (we're not trying to compete on equal footing with SWF and USPW--TCW is serious wrestling), I always raise Cult to at least medium, usually higher. I try to make my characters real people. While they may be "aligned" in game, virtually everyone is a tweener to some degree. Except Aaron Andrews. He's just bad. But I feel upping cult is appropriate because we're trying to appeal primarily to teens and adults. I always get a bigger TV and PPV deal and sign Marat, of course, because you have to, but long-term, the goal is to beat SWF and USPW with guys like Sayeed Ali, Frankie Perez (as Killswitch), Greg Gauge--nuanced, interesting characters who can go in the ring, are willing to bleed a little and would die before they break kayfabe.

Just my two cents on the greatest company in the C-Verse.

WWE 2012. Started in July; it's now November and we're in the leadup to Survivor Series. I re-implemented a strict brand split to give myself more creative directions and am having so much fun. Apologies for the long post.

Titles:

RAW: WWE Undisputed, WWE United States

SmackDown: WWE World Heavyweight, WWE Intercontinental

The Unified Tag Team Titles are defended on both shows, though only the champions are free agents. It's a point of pride for one brand's team to hold the belts; they still represent that brand when they defend the belts on the other show.

--The first celebration of the brand split was a champion vs. champion match at SummerSlam. RAW's world champion CM Punk went one-on-one with SmackDown's champ Sheamus. About twenty minutes into an awesome match, three people in flak jackets ran in from the crowd, beat down both champs and triple-powerbombed Punk through a table and Sheamus onto the ring steps. The next night on RAW, they beat down General Manager "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, putting him through a table as well. That Thursday night, they showed up on SmackDown, where they attacked The Undertaker, making a rare TV appearance, with barbed wire-wrapped chairs and left him bloody and unconscious to close the show. Over the next six weeks, they inflicted chaos on both shows--in the strict brand split, they're the only free agents in the company. On the SmackDown after September's Night of Champions, they finally introduced themselves as Seth Rollins, Roman Anoa'i and Paige Knight. Calling themselves The SHIELD, they claim that they're in WWE to "root out injustice." Over the next several weeks, their personalities have become clear. The cold, calculating, sarcastic Rollins is the unofficial leader. Anoa'i, the big man of the group, is a silent badass who prefers to let his fists do the talking. Knight is the loose cannon who carries a barbed wire-wrapped chair with her everywhere and occasionally clashes with the cerebral Rollins. At Survivor Series, the SHIELD will finally step into the ring for their first (semi) sanctioned match against a trio of legends in Road Dogg, The Undertaker and Mick Foley. It's Survivor Series. It's No Holds Barred. It's The Shield versus The Legends. It's going to be brutal.

--CM Punk has dealt with a lot in his life. From an alcoholic father and uncaring mother to moving in with his best friend Scotty Goldman at 16 to becoming the greatest pro wrestler in the world, Punk has endured. His secondary father figure, Paul Heyman, has been a large part of the reason why. In July, though, Heyman turned on Punk, saying he'd lost his "killer instinct." Now Brock Lesnar, Heyman's new client, has his sights set on the one thing Punk still has: the Undisputed Title. Lesnar won a #1 contender's match at SummerSlam to earn the right to face Punk 1-on-1 for the title at RAW's August PPV, Judgment Day. That match ended in a no contest when The Shield interfered and put Lesnar, Punk and Heyman through tables. Heyman's interference has cost Punk several matches since. Now, to avoid interference, Lesnar and Punk will go one-on-one inside a steel cage at Survivor Series. (Lesnar will win, continuing the feud till Mania, where future MitB winner Drew McIntyre will cash in on "The Beast Incarnate" after a brutal Iron Man match with Punk.)

--Once upon a time, Drew McIntyre was "The Chosen One," the man who was supposed to lead WWE into a new generation. It hasn't happened yet. McIntyre has largely floundered, often struggling to back up his big talk in the ring. With the new brand split, though, he's got a perfect chance to be revitalized. He claims that fan favorite John Cena is a joke who's hurting the cause of the sport of pro wrestling. Cena thinks wrestling is the fans and their love. The two have been trading wins and dueling promos on RAW since SummerSlam and are tied 2-2 in singles encounters to this point. If McIntyre wants to achieve his destiny, his team--himself, Wade Barrett, Jack Swagger, McIntyre's mentor Kevin Nash and Johnny Curtis--will have to overcome Team Cena (John, Alex Riley, Brodus Clay, Sin Cara and Tyson Kidd) at Survivor Series. Genuinely haven't decided who's going over yet, though Drew is ultimately going to win the feud.

--It's hard to be better than perfect. Joe Hennig has had to live with that his whole life. When he won the United States Championship from Santino Marella at SummerSlam, Hennig thought he was on the path towards his own "Perfect" legacy in the business. He didn't realize that his win painted a target on his back. Over the weeks since his win, Hennig, along with his manager (and fellow child of a legend) Lacey von Erich, has resorted to cheating more and more in order to retain his title. Zack Ryder might be an upbeat broski, but he has respect for the business. Originally planning to be the vice-captain of Team Cena, Ryder dropped out of the Survivor Series match to try to be the one to finally take the title off "The Rising Son." Hennig is going to win again here, but Ryder will finally win the belt in a no-DQ match at the Royal Rumble in January.

--Other RAW matches on the card: Kane vs. Mason Ryan; Dolph Ziggler vs. R-Truth

--Since the brand split, SmackDown has been ruled by The Authority, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. They have endorsed Randy Orton as the next "Face of SmackDown" and will do anything in their power to keep him in that role. Daniel Bryan calls himself "The Best in the World." He doesn't look like a WWE champion. And The Authority are determined to make sure he never becomes one. Triple H and Bryan have been colliding maybe even more often than Bryan and Randy Orton are; this feud transcends the belt for the moment. After all, Trips has declared that Bryan will never get a title shot as long as he has anything to say about it. That's what's "Best for Business."

--The Big Gold Belt started out around the waist of Sheamus, but quickly fell to "The Big Bad" Mark Henry. Henry has been having fun beating people down and welcoming them into the Hall of Pain--I really wanted to give him a nice extended run with the strap, and now he's having a fun little feud with a newly-face Wade Barrett over the belt. Ultimately, though, I want the belt to end up around Orton's waist so I can make the Authority/Bryan storyline actually involve the belt. Pretty much every SmackDown has started with The Authority (just like RAW in real life <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> ) Barrett will win the strap at SS and drop it to Orton at the Rumble when Ryback interferes. Maybe.

--They say that there's no stronger ties than those of blood. Goldust and Cody Rhodes might disagree. Cody has named himself "The American Nightmare," a name he ripped off from Dustin, and has been on an absolute reign of terror with the Intercontinental Championship. It's such a terror-y reign of terror that Goldust came back to WWE from wherever Goldust goes when he isn't wrestling. The pair have fought a couple of absolute wars, and Goldust knows what it means to have the IC strap, and he wants to make his brother see the light. Dusty has now been drawn into the feud as well; he'll be the special guest referee for their clash at Survivor Series.

How much will low production values hurt me if I'm still winning regional battles?

As IPW, I decided to upgrade all my production values to match everyone else in the South West regional battle, though I finished second without those upgrades. First month with upgraded production, I won the regional battle and lost $50k--not a killer, but not great. If I hadn't upgraded, how much would the production value drop have hurt show grades?

No, 4C isn't a bad choice at all. I actually think it's one of the perfect starter promotions--a fairly wide-ranging product, a decent roster and not a lot of competition. I don't think a lot of people tend to book the regional scene in Canada, but 4C is one of the best promotions you can pick to start with.

How would one go about installing/adding this?

On the main screen of TEW, go to "Editor," then create a new database (I call mine "Angles," but you can call it whatever you want). Quit TEW, extract the file from Mediafire, paste it over the TEW2016.mdb in the "Angles" file under "Databases" in your main TEW 16 file. Start TEW up again, go back to the Default (or whatever other) database, head to the editor, and import the angles.

I've got a bit of feedback, actually. Maybe it's just going to take some getting used to, but so far I find the angle names very visually confusing. "1 vs 1 v 1" -- it's the version number that keeps slowing me down. Do you need that? I think the little parentheses with (2 ent) or whatever is enough to distinguish between angles.

So it'd be, for instance: 1 vs. 1 (2 ent)

Instead of: 1 vs. 1 v. 1 (2 ent)

Maybe I'll edit in my game and report back!

Anyway, great idea, very happy with the streamlining overall. Thanks for the work!

You know, that's a super helpful piece of feedback. I felt it made it more consistent--i.e. it'd be super clear that the second version is always 1 ent. and 1 menace--but I see your point. If anyone else brings this up, I'll go through and change the names. I'm glad you like it overall tho.

Everyone knows the story of the day that changed Canadian wrestling. The day in 2009 when Steve DeColt, told he’d been denied the head booker job in favor of Phil Vibert, walked out on Canadian Golden Combat. The day when North of the Border Pro Wrestling took the lead in the race to the top of the Canadian wrestling industry once and for all.

After Alex DeColt’s takeover of CGC, the company trended downwards. Alex himself got more and more paranoid, isolating himself from even his brothers Ricky and Jack. CGC was losing money. It was losing ground. 2015 was arguably the worst year in CGC history. Top star after top star left the company for greener (Alex DeColt-free) pastures.

Someone needed to come in and save Canadian sports entertainment.

In January 2016, Steve DeColt again walked out on the top wrestling company in Canada.

This time, he was going home.

In IPW, I have Greg Gauge wrestling as "God's Gift" Greg Gauge. He's brash, arrogant and knows he's too good for the company. Could I get a more IPW-looking alt of any Greg Gauge render, hopefully reflecting the "God's Gift" character?

THE ODOBENUS ANGLE PACK 2.0

I released an angle pack for TEW 2013, and I'll be doing significant updates/changes/ease-of-use upgrades for 2016. I've been using this angle pack since I started playing TEW and it's saved me so much time over the years.

What is it?

This is a small, simple angle pack that I believe can meet almost every need in the game with minimal cloning and changing. I've used it for my own games since I got TEW and decided to finally share it.

Why should I download it?

The goal is to eliminate redundancies in the default angles (i.e. three different kinds of interview angle) while making angle descriptions as self-explanatory as possible and streamlining the process of using what workers do best.

How many angles are there?

Yet to be determined; probably around 100 (there are around 25-30 distinct angles with multiple versions that rate workers on different things).

Hang on. You can't do everything with 25-30 angles, can you?

No, but you can do a lot. I don't separate most angles that are mechanically the same--in other words, a brawl in-ring and a brawl backstage will be the same angle, Brawl - 1 vs. 1. All you need to do is find the version that rates workers on what you want—for example, Brawl 1 vs. 1 has versions that rate both workers on overness, one on overness and one on menace, both on menace, or both on sex appeal.

How are the angles sorted?

An example: you'll find Argument - 1 vs. 1 v. 1 (2 Ent.), Argument - 1 vs. 1 v. 2 (1 Ent. 1 Men.) and Argument 1 vs. 1 v. 3 (2 Men.) One rates both workers on entertainment, one rates one on Entertainment and one on Menace, and one rates both on Menace. Want to find a promo, an interview, a brawl, an attack and save? Just search for it. They're intuitively named (I think).

I've wanted to do a diary for a really long time. I had one short-lived attempt for a little while. I've posted about both my TCW game (2005-2007 and still going) and my WCW game (started May 2001, now in Feb. 2002). Would people be interested in reading AAR-style writeups of what happened? In other words, could a diary in the style of Bigpapa's WCW: Rebuilding the Empire, except a lot less epic and with less pre-installed background, manage to work for the 2005 Cornellverse? Would it be something people might want to read? Especially since I've posted about the game on here before. From "The New Golden Age" chapter of The Total Revolution: A Hollyweird History by "Hardcore Icon" Alex Braun:

Jason Azaria’s call that night in January of 2007 has become legendary in wrestling lore. The Syndicate, Tommy Cornell’s five-man power trip of a stable, had finally gotten to Sam Strong. As they beat “The Immortal One” down in the parking lot, an unfamiliar motorbike pulled up. Jason’s call tells it better than I can.

“I don’t know what’s going on here. A motorcycle has entered the parking lot, but I can’t tell who’s riding it. The rider is taking his helmet off—wait. That’s Steve Frehley! He hits Cornell with the helmet, and the world champ goes down! Here come the rest of the Syndicate! Frehley hops on his bike, revs the engine, and speeds for the downed Cornell! Hawkins just pulled him out of the way in time. The Syndicate beat a hasty retreat. Is Steve Frehley the savior that Sam Strong has been seeking for this company?”

The next week, on the Malice in Wonderland go-home show, the answer looked like it was going to be yes. “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” by Johnny Cash came over the PA. With it came Frehley on his bike. Sam Strong offered the self-proclaimed “Black Knight” a contract with a caveat—joining the Strongmen was written in. Frehley read the contract once and answered by Spearing the Total Commissioner through his desk and leaving his side in the battle in doubt. The next week, Tommy Cornell offered Frehley the chance to join the Syndicate and a hefty paycheck for doing so.

“Steve Frehley is nobody’s b---h,” the “Black Knight” proclaimed as he Speared Cornell through his office wall. The phrase became a signature for the motorcycle-riding “Lawbringer”.

Frehley won Jefferson Stardust’s open challenge at Malice, then announced that he would be entering the Slamboree battle royal. Strong gave him entry #1 as punishment for the beatdown and Frehley made it to the final four along with Cornell, Liberty and TCW debutant Tom Gilmore. After eliminating Gilmore, Frehley joined forces with Liberty to get Cornell out of the ring. It seemed for a moment that the “Black Knight” might step over the top rope and let The Strongmen get the shot at Cornell that they had been seeking for six months. Instead, he pointed at Strong then Cornell and Speared Liberty over the top rope. “The Last Vigilante” had again declined to pick his side. The main event of Total Mayhem appeared set—Frehley vs. “Rough Justice.” Yet again, Liberty was denied his chance for revenge. Yet again, the war for TCW was denied resolution. Jason Azaria, as is so often the case, said it best:

“After all that TCW has been through in the past six months, we’re destined for more uncertainty. “The Black Knight” Steve Frehley wins Slamboree, and by eliminating Liberty eliminates any chance for the World Heavyweight Championship to finally end up around the waist of one of the Strongmen. Here’s a little fact you may not know—he’s the only man to ever enter Slamboree at #1 and win the whole thing. I don’t know if he did it out of self-interest or to help one of the sides in this war, but here’s one thing I do know—the “Last Vigilante” is going to give Tommy Cornell one hell of a fight at Total Mayhem X. The question is just what happens if he wins.”

Clearly, Slamboree marked a shift in the balance of power in the war between The Syndicate and The Strongmen. At the time, though, no one was sure which way the needle was pointing. They would realize it by the time the summer was over.
