    CZW News

From the desk of President Maven T. Bentley

    Written by Emil J

We are fresh from the Z-Barr Memorial and full steam ahead to WrestleMania weekend with California Dreamin’

A huge night at the Z-Barr saw the CZW Tag Team Titles change hands twice in one night but when all was said and done it was Bear Country that walked away with the belts and tournament trophy. The new champions will not be at California Dreamin’ to defend their titles but will be at Trifecta Elimination where they will make the first defense of their reign against Platinum Inc. in a rematch of the finals.

Speaking of that event the second match in the tournament is now official as IWA Mid South will be represented as the Punk Rock Princess Alice Crowley will be in there with two men who are more often seen together as a tag team in Tyler Matrix and Logan James. The third and final Trifecta match will be announce shortly.

Coming out of the tournament was bruised and battered pair of stars in The Rep. McCall and Carter are not ones to rest and lick their wounds and have challenged The Ascension to meet them at California Dreamin’ in an Ultra-Violent Tables match. Our esteemed president Maven T. Bentley has accepted on behalf of the two brutes and made this official for the show.

One team that had a bad couple of night was The Family. After his not so triumphant return to the Combat Zone we have heard from Sozio that he will be bringing The Family to Trifecta Elimination. Opponents for the duo will be announced in due course.

There were some standout performances inside and outside of the tournament not least of which was KC Navarro. The brash youngster certainly does not shy away and issued a challenge to anyone from CZW’s past or present. Step forward for California Dreamin’ a former Best of the Best Winner, a former CZW World Champion, a former CZW Iron Man Champion, the winner of the 2004 Xtreme Strong Style tournament and 2019 CZW Hall of Fame Inductee B-Boy. The New Age Punisher sent us a video available on our YouTube channel of just what he is going to do to Navarro and it isn’t pretty.

Speaking of standout performers there was one man that impressed and that was Tony Deppen. So much so that he has been officially announced as the first entrant into this year’s Best of the Best.

More will be announced for that event in due course. Finally we need to announce the last two matches for California Dreamin’ the first of which is a rematch from the tournament as Young, Dumb and Broke take on BLKOUT looking for revenge. The second is a flyers showcase as Alex Zayne, Artemis Spencer, Griffin McCoy and a returning AR Fox collide. We can also announce the fourth man into the hardcore showcase to be Masada.

This promises to be a huge afternoon and really will showcase the best we have to offer.

The veteran team spoke about all of their achievements in the past within the Combat Zone with both men being former winners of Best of the Best as well a multiple times holder of all of the gold in CZW. The segment ends when Mireno mentions that in a tournament you need skill, experience and more than a little bit of luck but one thing is for sure and that is you should “Always Bet on Black”. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(27)</span></p><p> Next up we saw <strong>THE REP</strong> with <strong>JEM MARTEL</strong> as she questioned them about the huge first round match with <strong>THE ASCENSION</strong> and how<strong> MAVEN BENTLEY</strong> keeps stacking the odds against them. The duo mention they have not held the titles this long through luck and if it takes going through all fifteen other team and Maven himself they will be ending tomorrow still the CZW World Tag Team Champions. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(20)</span></p><p> We then cut to a dark room where we can barely make out the figure of CZW World Champion <strong>JOE GACY</strong> who is speaking about being unwanted by CZW and having to claw his way to the top but also being a fighting champion. He then announces that for this reason tomorrow he is putting out an open challenge to anyone from inside or outside of CZW to challenge him for the belt.<span style="color:#00BFFF;"> (42)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>1.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">CZW Wired Title: KC Navarro©[V3 Defense] w/Blessed vs. John Silver</span> A bonus match to begin the night as we saw Navarro defend against Silver. The challenger was looking to get back to winning ways and also get some gold around this waist. It was not be his night however as the champion retained when Theo Ivory was up on the apron which took Silver’s attention away allowing him to be caught with a rollup for the three count. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Rollup, 12:40, (38))</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>2.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Z-Barr Tournament Round 1: The Skulk (Leon Ruff and Liam Gray) vs. The Rejects (John Wayne Murdoch and Reed Bentley)</span> A definite difference in styles here in the opening tournament contest as the larger and stronger brawlers really went to town on The Skulk. The match told the story overall of the underdog team trying to repeatedly make comebacks only to be foiled. In the end Murdoch nailed the Deep South Destroyer on Gray for the win as The Rejects advanced. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Deep South Destroyer, 9:12, (31))</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>3.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Z-Barr Tournament Round 1: Notorious Inc. (Drew Blood and Devon Moore) vs. The Dawson Brothers (Dave and Zane Dawson)</span> Another clash of styles as the two big men went up against the veteran flyers making their tag return to the Combat Zone. Whilst Dave and Zane had the advantage physically you could see that mentally they were always second best through the contest with the finish coming when Moore pinned Dave with his patented shooting star press. The crowd overall did not really take kindly to the team from the NWA giving them a don’t come back chant. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Shooting Star Press, 7:49, (28))</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>4.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Z-Barr Tournament Round 1: Young, Dumb and Broke (Charlie Tiger and Ellis Taylor) vs. BLKOUT (Ruckus and BLK JEEZ) w/Robbie Mireno</span> As expected here a very interesting clash between old and new CZW. Tiger and Taylor are still finding their feet really and the crowd were surprised to see how well they managed to hang with BLKOUT. In the end though the experience was telling and all it took was one BLK Jesus Stomp to put away Charlie Tiger for the victory. After the match the young competitors were clearly unhappy and were jaw jacking as they left to the back telling BLKOUT this was not over. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(BLK Jesus Stomp, 14:20, (33))</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>5.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Z-Barr Tournament Round 1: The Family (Eric Corvis and Dimi Papadon) w/Sozio vs. Bear Country (Bear Beefcake and Bear Bronson)</span> The worst possible match for Sozio and his crew to make a statement as they hoped to do as the hot favourites to win it all were in no mood and dominated the majority of the contest. There was a small spell where Corvis and Dimi got in some shots but in the end the latter fell to a big assisted powerbomb for the loss. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Assisted Powerbomb, 8:07, (32))</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> After the match was over <strong>JEM MARTEL</strong> caught up with <strong>THE FAMILY</strong> as the leader <strong>SOZIO</strong> talked about how today a disrespect was shown to them by CZW in putting them in to a match with those brutes. He goes on to say that the disrespect has gone on for too long and people are going to see it change and <strong>THE FAMILY</strong> will run this place. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(16)</span></p><p> Just then <strong>YOUNG DUMB AND BROKE</strong> enter the shot talking about how tonight they were cheated by a washed up couple of nobodies that wish they had half the talent they do. The pair claim that if <strong>BLKOUT</strong> think that things are over then they are wrong because Young Dumb are the gatekeepers of this mother ****ing company. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(24)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>6.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Z-Barr Tournament Round 1: American Murder Society (Alex Reiman and Steve Off) vs. Softcore Connection 2.0 (Nick Berk and Luke Hawx)</span> In a nice touch the connection were dressed for this one in traditional attire that Z-Barr himself would have worn complete with zebra print trousers. The match itself was a mixture of comedy and serious as the two sides went there and had fun in the name of Barr. The end came when Reiman pinned Hawx with a Michinoku Driver and score another in a line of impressive victories for the underdogs lately. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Michinoku Driver, 5:52, (29))</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>7.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Z-Barr Tournament Round 1: Platinum Inc. (Anthony Greene and Ava Everett) w/Candy Cartwright vs. Salt the Earth (Matt Makowski and Travis Huckabee)</span> The crowd were very vocal against the former CHIKARA stars here as StE tried using matt based tactics to wear down the fan favourites. Once the match got going there was only going to be one winner and Everett saw to that by landing Travis with the Chokeslam for the victory to advance. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Chokeslam, 12:35, (22))</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>8.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Z-Barr Tournament Round 1: The Lone Rangers (Jeff Cannonball and Mitch Vallen) vs. Rush Hour (Lee Moriarty and Wheeler YUTA)</span> Another clash of styles in the opening round here as the former are a pair of hardcore brawlers and were up against a high flyer and an excellent mat technician. The former had the advantage for a large amount of the match asserting their dominance and using size and power to their advantage. In the end Cannonball used a Tiger Driver to pin Moriarty and allow his team to advance. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Tiger Driver, 12:23, (26))</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>9.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Z-Barr Tournament Round 1: CZW Tag Team Titles: The Rep (Dave McCall and Nate Carter)©[V10 Defense] vs. The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor)</span> The main event of the evening and the most anticipated match of the first round as the former WWE tag team engaged in a hard hitting and brutal match with it being announced part way through we were CZW rules in this one so anything goes. Both teams put it all on the line with barbed wire doors and barbed wire boards coming into play. At the end of the day an assisted flapjack managed to allow the champions to eek out the win. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Assisted Flapjack, 14:43, (27))</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> After the match as over out came <strong>MAVEN BENTLEY</strong> shouting no no this is not right this is not over. This distraction allowed the losing team to jump the champions and give them a massive beat down including putting McCall through a lighttube covered table. The show then faded to black with Maven and The Ascension standing over the battered bodies of the champions. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(29)</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">OVERALL SHOW RATING:</span></strong> <span style="color:#00BFFF;">28 </span><em>(Increased Popularity in Region)</em></p><p> </p><p> <strong>NIGHT 2</strong></p><p> </p><p><strong> PRE-SHOW</strong></p><p> The promos portion before the show opened up as it did last night with a promo outside with <strong>BLKOUT</strong>. The trio spoke about their big win last night before going on to begin to speak about their opponents tonight <strong>BEAR COUNTRY</strong>. Before they could do that we saw <strong>YOUNG, DUMB AND BROKE</strong> minus the leader <strong>JORDAN OLIVER</strong> in the background as they attempted to steal a jump on <strong>BLKOUT</strong> but were sent packing. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(26)</span></p><p> Next up we saw a jubilant <strong>KC NAVARRO</strong> with the rest of <strong>BLESSED</strong> as he spoke about the big victory over <strong>JOHN SILVER</strong> last night. Proclaiming himself to be the best champion CZW has ever seen the cocky youngster went on to proclaim he will defend the title any event against any person form CZW past or present. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(28)</span></p><p> The final promo was <strong>JEM MARTEL</strong> standing by with <strong>THE REP</strong>. The champions spoke about how it is their responsibility to defend their titles and they will still go all of the way. The two show off taped ribs and whole host of other injuries and look barely at 50% never mind 100%. <strong>DAVE MCCALL</strong> then sys as for <strong>THE ASCENSION</strong> things are certainly not over between them and they will meet down the road one way or another. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(28)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>1.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">The Family (Eric Corvis and Dimi Papadon) and Salt The Earth (Matt Makowski and Travis Huckabee) w/Sozio vs. The Skulk (Liam Gray and Leon Ruff) and Rush Hour (Wheeler YUTA and Lee Moriarty)</span> A losers showcase eight man tag team match to start off the evening with all the participants combining to put on a fast paced and entertaining start to the evening. Despite his promise last night Sozio once again saw his side on the losing time although they were not directly pinned as Moriarty pinned Makowski with the C-C-Combo for the big victory. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(C-C-Combo, 9:45, (28))</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>2.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Z-Barr Tournament QF: Notorious Inc. (Drew Blood and Devon Moore) vs. The Rejects (John Wayne Murdoch and Reed Bentley)</span> With a semi-final place at stake here both teams went all out in what was an entertaining contest. Murdoch and Bentley showed their surprising agility and Bentley almost pinned blood with a big senton from the top but Moore broke it up with a diving elbow. In the end though the match was finished with Moore falling victim to a huge Spike Piledriver. This gave The Rejects their ticket to a massive semi-final match with everyone wondering whether this team could possibly go all the way. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Spike Piledriver, 10:26, (30))</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>3.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Z-Barr Tournament QF: Bear Country (Bear Beefcake and Bear Bronson) vs. BLKOUT (Ruckus and BLK JEEZ) w/Robbie Mireno</span> A great contest here with the monster team throwing everything they can at the veterans but being unable to put them away. BLKOUT then staged a fightback and after Ruckus had nailed a Razzle Dazzle everything was all set for the BLK Jesus stomp until out of nowhere came Charlie Tiger, Ellis Taylor and Griffin McCoy of Young, Dumb and Broke. This distracted BLKOUT long enough for Ruckus to be sent packing and Jeez to fall victim to a huge top rope fall away slam from Bronson for the 3. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Fall away slam, 10:29, (35))</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>4.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Z-Barr Tournament QF: Platinum Inc. (Anthony Greene and Ava Everett) w/Candy Cartwright vs. American Murder Society (Alex Reiman and Steve Off)</span> This was expected to be very much a one sided match with the underdogs going against one of the tournament favourites and that is the way it turned out as the Greene Light put away Reiman with very little resistance. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Green Light, 4:53, (29))</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>5.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Z-Barr Tournament QF: CZW Tag Team Titles: The Rep (Dave McCall and Nate Carter)©[V11 Defense] vs. The Lone Rangers (Jeff Cannonball and Mitch Vallen)</span> A clearly not 100% tag team champions came into this one and immediately tried to get the match over with through a series of big moves. This was obviously to ensure they did not go long into a match as they likely at the moment would not be able to handle that. This strategy did not totally work and we ended up with a situation of the champions being beaten down repeatedly but not giving up before out of nowhere Carter caught Vallen into a small package for the three count to advance although at what cost it remained to be seen. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Small Package, 8:25, (29))</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>6. </strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Anthony Gangone w/Valentina Vasquez vs. Jimmy Lloyd</span> A special attraction match here as the two men fought out a hard hitting contest. Lloyd was looking to get some momentum after his loss last month whilst Gangone was fresh from a big victory over Jimmy Rave and high on confidence. That confidence told as the match went on and Gangone once again used the front facelock submission wrenching away at Lloyd for the tap out this time to keep his momentum going. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Front Facelock, 9:56, (35))</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>7.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Z-Barr Tournament SF: Bear Country (Bear Beefcake and Bear Bronson) vs. The Rejects (John Wayne Murdoch and Reed Bentley)</span> What a cracking semi-final match we had here with these two hard hitting brawl based teams throwing everything but the kitchen sink at each other. The action went all over the inside and outside of the ring and could quite frankly have gone either way but in the end the team to advance to the final were Bear Country as Beefcake pinned Bentley following a big splash from the second rope. After the match was over the losing team were given please come back chants by the crowd who were appreciative of their efforts. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Big Splash, 11:47, (35))</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>8.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Z-Barr Tournament SF: CZW Tag Team Titles: The Rep (Dave McCall and Nate Carter)©[V12 Defense] vs. Platinum Inc. (Anthony Greene and Ava Everett) w/Candy Cartwright</span> After barely any time to rest at all the champions came out looking like they could barely make it to the ring selling the beating from last night and the additional punishment in the last round. There was almost an air of sympathy from Greene as he finally put Nate Carter down with the Greene Light and we had brand <span style="text-decoration:underline;">new CZW Tag Team champions</span>. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Greene Light, 7:22, (30))</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>9.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Jordan Oliver vs. Luke Hawx</span> An interesting special contest here with the veteran going up against the cocky young star. Oliver looked in great form which bodes well for a couple of weeks’ time when he faces off with Mike Bailey. It was the Cleopatra from Oliver that eventually took down Luke who put up a spirited showing. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Cleopatra, 6:45, (35))</span></p><p> </p><p> <strong>10.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">CZW World Title: Joe Gacy©[V9 Defense] vs. Tony Deppen</span> As Gacy waited in the ring to see who was going to answer his challenge we got the entrance of North Easy standout Tony Deppen. The two men had the crowd eating out of their hands with what was clearly the match of the night as we saw a combination of stiff strikes, great wrestling and some wild brawling over a 15 minute period. Deppen threw everything he could at the champion and at times you could forgive the crowd for thinking there would be a title change. In the end however the Slaughter Choke was enough for Gacy to pick up the big victory to retain. After the match as Deppen was leaving he got a please come back chant. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(Slaughter Choke, 15:10, (45))</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> With the loser having left the ring and only the champion remaining a familiar song hit the PA system as the crowd went nuts to <span style="color:#00BFFF;">“Holding Out for a Hero”</span> as into the entrance way walked for the <span style="text-decoration:underline;">first time in almost 7 years</span> the self-proclaimed <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Saviour of CZW </span><strong>CHRIS HERO</strong>. Hero talks about how Gacy walks around here talking about how nobody wants him in the company and if he was not the champion he would not be here so maybe now it is the time to put that to the test as in two weeks it has been made official in the back it will be <strong>JOE GACY</strong> And <strong>CHRIS HERO</strong> one on one for that belt on your shoulder right there. Hero then leaves as Gacy stares him down. <span style="color:#00BFFF;">(39)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>11.</strong> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Z-Barr Tournament Final: CZW Tag Team Titles: Platinum Inc. (Anthony Greene and Ava Everett) w/Candy Cartwright©[V1 Defense] vs. Bear Country (Bear Beefcake and Bear Bronson)</span> This was finally it the final of the tournament and we were informed on commentary that Greene and Everett wanted to be fighting champions so would be putting the titles on the line that they just won. The action itself was solid but you could also sense in both teams the fatigue from a gruelling couple of nights. There were visible welts on the back of Bronson and Beefcake from their wat with The Rejects for example. In the end the pure power of Bear Country won out as Ava was pinned following a sit out powerbomb from Beefcake and <span style="text-decoration:underline;">the title changes hands for the second time tonight</span>. CZW News

From the desk of President Maven T. Bentley

    Written by Emil J

So 22 Not Out is in the can and what a night it was with many twists and turns and surprises.

Things are seemingly not right between Brandon Kirk and his wife Kasey Catal. The Rogue has declined to comment but after receiving a vicious Psychodriver from her husband Catal has laid out a challenge for California Dreamin’. A straight up one on one match between the two so sort out their issues and get on the same page. This has been sanctioned by CZW management and it is now official.

The bombshell was dropped that at the Z-Barr Memorial Tournament The Rep will take on The Ascension in the first round. The former WWE stars released a video to the CZW YouTube channel announcing they were here for two reasons. Those reasons were to rule the CZW tag division and to hurt McCall and Carter. This promises to be a hard hitting match to say the least.

Speaking of The Rep their third member Kris Bishop was beaten and bloodied against Matt Tremont in what was a hugely one sided match. A defiant Bishop however will not back down and is still demanding a match with DK Meadows. Never one to make things easy our president Maven Bentley has announced that at Trifecta Elimination in another CZW rules match Bishop will face off with Conor Claxton. If he can win this match he will get DK Meadows at an event of his choosing in a match of his choosing. If he loses however then he will be fired from CZW.

Speaking of the Trifecta Elimination as usual there will be 9 workers vying for one spot in the Best of the Best. There will be 3 triple threat matches before one 3 way elimination final. The first of those three way matches is now official and it will be an all Australian affair. The first worker is a technical specialist who has worked all over including for Pro Wrestling NOAH and that is AJ Istria. The second is no stranger to the United States having worked in CHIKARA recently, Ricky South. The third and possibly most anticipated of all is a high flying sensation that can be seen in Australia and for DDT in Japan, the man known as the Airbender, that man is Royce Chambers. Look out for more information on the Trifecta in the coming weeks.

The Storm of Depravity struck again in a big way and Jimmy Rave and Casanova Valentine are both in a bad way at the moment so no ideas of when they will be back although both are made of tough stuff and should be back soon. Speaking of the group, who knows when and where they will strike next.

The man who beat Rave before he was put on the shelf Anthony Gangone has certainly shown a ruthless side in recent months. It is for this reason that he is granted the opportunity to show his true worth at California Dreamin’ when he goes up against a man that has only appeared once before in CZW back in 2004 but is one of the top stars on the independent scene. A stacked card on WrestleMania weekend just got bigger as Gangone will go up against Erick Stevens.

There was a massive return as we saw Lio Rush back in the Combat Zone. The high flyer with the attitude will surely be a one to watch, especially now he has the Ultimate Opportunity. He will have his work cut out at California Dreamin’ against Anthony Greene in a match that could steal the show.

Moving attentions to the Z-Barr Memorial the final 6 teams can be officially announced. Representing the NWA will be the Dawson Brothers. This hard hitting pair of big men have never bene in CZW before but from watching them on YouTube everyone can tell they should not be underestimated. Then there a team representing the hottest young faction on the independent scene today at Ellis Taylor and Charlie Tiger will be representing Young, Dumb and Broke. We will also see two CHIKARA Alumni as Salt The Earth of Travis Huckabee and Matt Makowski enter the tournament. The Lone Rangers of Jeff Cannonball and Mitch Vallen who are more than capable of upsetting anyone on their day, Rush Hour from Black Label Pro consisting of Wheeler YUTA and Lee Moriarty. Last but not least as a tribute to Z-Barr two of his former partners will team up as Nick Berk and Luke Hawx will be Softcore Connection 2.0.

This rounds out the 16 teams for the tournament as:

    1. American Murder Society (Alex Reiman and Steve Off)

    2. The Rep (Dave McCall and Nate Carter)

    3. BLKOUT (Ruckus and BLK JEEZ) w/Robbie Mireno

    4. Bear Country (Bear Beefcake and Bear Bronson)

    5. The Skulk (Liam Gray and Leon Ruff)

    6. The Rejects (John Wayne Murdoch and Reed Bentley)

    7. Anthony Greene and Ava Everett w/Candy Cartwright

    8. The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor)

    9. The Family (Eric Corvis and Dimi Papadon) w/Sozio

    10. Notorious Inc. (Devon Moore and Drew Blood)

    11. The Dawson Brothers (Dave Dawson and Zane Dawson)

    12. Young, Dumb and Broke (Charlie Tiger and Ellis Taylor)

    13. Salt the Earth (Matt Makowski and Travis Huckabee)

    14. The Lone Rangers (Mitch Vallen and Jeff Cannonball)

    15. Softcore Connection 2.0 (Nick Berk and Luke Hawx)

    16. Rush Hour (Lee Moriarty and Wheeler YUTA)

The official matches will be announced later today on CZWrestling.com for the first round.

    Match One

    GHxusjY.jpgKJz06je.jpg VS. Puwx2Si.jpgAXLecKO.jpg

THE REJECTS (John Wayne Murdoch and Reed Bentley) VS. THE SKULK (Leon Ruff and Liam Gray)

Two teams that could arguably go all of the way as Murdoch and Bentley are tough as nails and hard hitting but they will have to be at the top of their game to defeat Ruff and Gray who certainly have the speed advantage.

    Match Two

    TbfGKel.jpg6Oqepkl.jpg VS. DCpp27Y.jpglRNCN9E.jpg

NOTORIOUS INC. (Devon Moore and Drew Blood) vs. THE DAWSON BROTHERS (Dave and Zane Dawson)

An interesting dynamic in this one as the two massive NWA stars come in with a lot to prove but will be taking on a veteran team on the independent scene. Will the experience of Moore and Blood pay off in this one or will we see them making a surprise early exit?

    Match Three

    DMpIGYx.jpgGsQL98H.jpg VS. 0nGotSj.jpg6ltTmGV.jpgoV7Tfus.jpg

YOUNG, DUMB AND BROKE (Charlie Tiger and Ellis Taylor) vs. BLKOUT (Ruckus and BLK JEEZ) w/Robbie Mireno

A battle between the future of the Combat Zone and a team that has done it all here. BLKOUT will be making their return and looking to put the young cocky team in their place but what a scalp it would be for Tiger and Taylor to pick up the big first round win in this one.

    Match Four

    mYwy5iF.jpg64DyGPa.jpgsFE4NoC.jpg VS. CmrPmw9.jpgCJxDExg.jpg

THE FAMILY (Eric Corvis and Dimi Papadon) w/Sozio vs. BEAR COUNTRY (Bear Beefcake and Bear Bronson)

When Sozio decided to enter a team into this one he was not banking on getting one of the hot favorites in the first round. Bear Country are many people’s tip to win the whole thing so The Family will need to have something up their sleeves if they are going to take this one and advance to night 2.

    Match Five

    VVDFmdN.jpgRlpRnKK.jpg VS. QU4Rqwx.jpgnIboNMi.jpg

AMERICAN MURDER SOCIETY (Alex Reiman and Steve Off) vs. SOFTCORE CONNECTION 2.0 (Nick Berk and Luke Hawx)

An interesting dynamic in this one as the veteran pair back to honor former tag partner Z-Barr and his life take on a team with two solid wins under their belt on the last two events. AMS will be looking to take a huge early scalp and have Berk and Hawx still got it?

    Match Six

    lXrxchh.jpgNJ2iTu9.jpgMzjUe9x.jpg VS. dz1dvG5.jpgrlpmc42.jpg

PLATINUM INC. (Anthony Greene and Ava Everett) w/Candy Cartwright vs. SALT THE EARTH (Matt Makowski and Travis Huckabee)

Greene has been in tremendous form lately and he will be looking to carry it over into this tournament with Everett. Standing in their way are a team of no nonsense wrestlers who are as tough as they come. Makowski is a former MMA star and Travis can tie you up in knots before you know what hit you. Could be the tie of the round.

    Match Seven

    hzGv6cu.jpgysiRoka.jpg VS. enDIoXQ.jpgX6CHdE5.jpg

THE REP (Dave McCall and Nate Carter) vs. THE ASCENSION (Konnor and Viktor)

The one everyone is looking forward to and the CZW Tag Team Titles will be on the line. This is a massive test for McCall and Carter and the toughest of their long reign. It is also worth keeping in mind that in order to walk away with their titles the team need to win the whole tournament as Maven Bentley has announced that every tournament match they are in they need to defend the titles, this is not the same for every other team it is their choice.

    Match Eight

    awseIRt.jpgEshnbGX.jpg VS. 7DJpe9t.jpgNJ5cnRs.jpg

THE LONE RANGERS (Jeff Cannonball and Mitch Vallen) vs. RUSH HOUR (Lee Moriarty and Wheeler YUTA)

A clash of styles between these two as Cannonball and Vallen rely on hard hitting and Rush Hour comprise one of the best up and coming juniors and one of the best up and coming technical wrestlers. Whoever wins this could go all the way.

  11. COMBAT ZONE WRESTLING: 22 NOT OUT: THE CZW ANNIVERSARY SHOW

    2300 Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

    Saturday Week 3 February

LIVE ON IWTV AND FITE TV

Commentary: Emil Jay and Khaleef Bryant

    PRE-SHOW

Before the event we saw the usual backstage interviews with JEM MARTEL with first being with BRANDON KIRK and his wife KASEY CATAL. The two spoke about how last month was a fluke and THE AMERICAN MURDER SOCIETY will get what is coming to them. The two then declared their tag team like their marriage has never been stronger. (16)

Next up she was joined by ANTHONY GANGONE and his valet VALENTINA VASQUEZ who discussed the attack last month on JIMMY RAVE and how this only the beginning of retribution. Gangone declared that tonight he will put the veteran in his place and put him on the shelf. (30)

Just as that interview ended the lights went out and there was a flickering video before the familiar distorted voice spoke about how the storm is closer than you think. The voice then mentioned that more will fall before the storm is over and last month was only the beginning. (40)

    1. Brandon Kirk and Kasey Catal vs. American Murder Society (Alex Reiman and Steve Off) A decent opening match of the show here with Kirk and Catal looking to show that they should have won the big Z-Barr qualifying match last month. The two were dominating over Reiman with Off already taken out on the outside until Kirk committed one of the most despicable acts the Combat Zone has seen in a while. With his team clearly in control out of nowhere he grabbed his own wife from behind and delivered a sickening Psychodriver. Brandon then left to the back shaking his head as Reiman covered for the victory. Once the match was over Catal was taken away by medical staff with the crowd stunned at what happened(Partner Betrayal, 5:48, (24))

    2. Bear Country (Bear Beefcake and Bear Bronson) vs. The Skulk (Leon Ruff and Liam Gray) The second match of the evening was another tag team contest, albeit with both teams seemingly more on the same page in this one. The big pair of bears were taking no prisoners and showing just what is in store for those that face them at next month’s tournament. Beefcake and Bronson toyed with and threw around their smaller opponents before Bronson ended the match with a discus lariat that turned Ruff inside out. (Discus Lariat, 7:57, (34))

    3. CZW Rules: Matt Tremont vs. Kris Bishop As this one was about to begin there was a visible sense of dread on the face of Bishop. As Tremont stood over the ring him the young graduate of the CZW Wrestling Academy decided to just go for it picking up a lighttube and swinging wildly. This tactic was all in vein and only served to anger one of the best in the business at this type of match. What we saw next after this was a massacre as tables, doors, a barbed wire board and multiple lighttubes all came into play in one of the most one sided contests you are ever likely to see. Tremont finally ended the suffering on Bishop who was by this time an absolute bloody mess when he delivered a sit out powerbomb onto a pile of thumbtacks for the pin. (Powerbomb onto thumbtacks, 7:55, (38))

As the match ended and MATT TREMONT left to the back with barely a scratch on him out form the back came CZW President MAVEN BENTLEY with DK MEADOWS. Meadows began beating down an already battered KRIS BISHOP until the rest of THE REP made the save. From there Maven announced that there was no need to wait and DAVE MCCALL and NATE CARTER can have their title defense now. From there the champions were jumped by the APOSTLES OF CHAOS as we were onto our next match. (21)

    4. CZW Rules for the CZW Tag Team Titles: The Rep (Dave McCall and Nate Carter) © [V9 Defense] vs. The Apostles of Chaos (Chris Benne and Logan Black) This was another fairly one sided match as like the previous match we just saw. This time however it did not go the way that the CZW President wanted it to as McCall and Carter systematically destroyed and made short work of the debuting tag team. The match ended when McCall delivered a piledriver through a door to Benne for the three count. (Piledriver through a door, 5:40, (26))

As the match ended a visibly irate MAVEN BENTLEY publically fired the APOSTLES OF CHAOS before turning his attention to THE REP. Maven said he was going to keep this short and sweet as he was sick of seeing their faces tonight. Next month at the Z-Barr Memorial Tag Team Tournament in the first round McCall and Carter will be taking on THE ASCENSION. Maven then does a mic rope and leaves to the back past a shocked crowd. (17)

    5. Anthony Gangone w/Valentina Vasquez vs. Jimmy Rave w/Prince Nana A solid match here as you would expect from these two. Gangone was showing the more aggression out of the two as he was clearly unhappy over recent run ins with the veteran crown jewel of the Embassy. In the end after both men had spells in control of the contest it was an attempted Rave Clash with a low blow out of nowhere from Gangone that turned the tide. From there he locked in a submission on Rave which could only be described as a Dragon Sleeper STF for the tap out from Rave. (Dragon Sleeper STF, 14:19, (32))

Once the match was over JIMMY RAVE was getting helped up to his feet by PRINCE NANA whilst ANTHONY GANGONE and VALENTINA VASQUEZ left the ring knowing that for today at least the spoils belonged to them. As Rave got up the crowd started clapping in appreciation at the effort put in by the veteran star until just like we saw last month fully suited in white and wearing black ski masks some men jumped the guard rail. This time there was one larger heavy set man and one smaller one. The smaller man nailed PRINCE NANA with a chair putting him out before the smaller man pulled out some barbed wire which he wrapped around the face of JIMMY RAVE. From there the man locked in a front facelock whilst raking the wire away at a clearly bloody Rave. JIMMY LLOYD ran out to try and make the save as the two men retreated and the mat was stained with the blood of Rave. (33)

    6. CZW Wired Title: KC Navarro©[V2 Defense] w/Blessed vs. Jimmy Lloyd As Lloyd was already in the ring the music of Blessed hit as Jae Fre did his usual shtick on the microphone running down the town and Lloyd. As the full entourage were in the ring Jimmy took the opportunity to attack and get the advantage taking out everyone and just leaving this a fair fight. To his credit however Navarro showed just how good he is on his own as he proved to be the superior wrestler to Lloyd who is more of a brawler. No distractions were needed as Navarro caught Lloyd in a flash roll up although he did hook the tights he still picked up the big victory to retain. (Roll Up with the Tights, 6:37, (31))

Next up was the CZW Hall of Fame induction. LARRY LEGEND introduced CZW legendary commentator JOHN HOUSE to present the plaque. House talked about how great it was to be back in CZW if only for one night before putting over the current product and stars. House then introduced the latest inductee SOZIO as the cocky veteran made his way to the ring. He spoke about how for the last 4 and half years nobody in CZW has picked up the phone to see whether he wants to work here anymore, just casting him aside for the next big thing. For that he would like to say **** DJ HYDE as the crowd then responded with a chant of **** DJ and Maven did his best cheerleading egging them on. SOZIO then goes on to say that while you are at it **** CZW before throwing down the plaque and spitting on it. He goes on to say that he is not finished in this company and in wrestling until he himself decides that he is and whilst he may not be able to work in the ring anymore he can work out of it. That is why he is bringing THE FAMILY to the Z-Barr next month. After this two larger men come down dressed in suits similar to that which he is wearing and intimidate the two others out of the ring. SOZIO announces them as the team to win it all THE FAMILY of ERIC CORVIS and DIMI PAPADON. The trio then leave the ring. (24)

We were then informed it was time for the Ultimate Opportunity match. LARRY LEGEND introduced all of the competitors as they stood in the ring awaiting the mystery eighth entrant. M.O.T.H by Troy Andretti hits and crowd in attendance are on their feet. For the first time in three and a half years back inside the Combat Zone was LIO RUSH. (31)

    7. Ultimate Opportunity Ladder Match: Anthony Greene w/Ava Everett and Candy Cartwright vs. Jordan Oliver vs. John Silver vs. Adrian Alanis vs. Devon Moore vs. Leroy Green vs. Conor Claxton vs. Lio Rush A great showcase of the talents of all of them men in this one as there was a good mix of high spots and hardcore spots to keep a fan of any wrestling entertained. There were a couple of in match announcements regarding future events as it was announced Notorious Inc. of Devon Moore and Drew Blood would be entering the Z-Barr Memorial. In addition to this both Claxton and Moore have been added to the 4 way showcase at California Dreamin’. Back onto the match itself the finish came when Alanis and Silver were brawling outside of the ring whilst Moore and Claxton has taken a shared tumble through a barbed wire door. This left four men all climbing the ladders until Oliver and Green took a tumble to the outside leaving only Lio Rush and Anthony Greene fighting it out at the top of the ladder for the prize. In the end as they slugged it out Rush punched Green and he slipped back getting his leg locked in the ladder, which left him powerless watching Rush grab the contract and thus the Ultimate Opportunity. (Item Retrieval, 19:57, (27))

As LIO RUSH celebrated in the ring out came JOE GACY and the two stared down for a moment before Lio made his exit saving that fight for another day. Gacy spoke about how he was jumped last month but he is ready to go and has eyes in the back of his head for next time but for now they need to get ALEX SHELLEY out here and get this match started. (38)

    8. CZW World Title: Joe Gacy©[V8 Defense] vs. Alex Shelley w/Prince Nana This was our clear match of the night here as Gacy showed his amazing diversity in ring style and abilities by hanging move for more with Shelley in what was a very technical encounter for the first half of it. From then on the champion then began to use his weight advantage to gain a measure of control getting a long two count on a Ripper's Knee before missing with a Top Rope Splash that would have surely ended things. Shelley then had a brief spell of control and went for his patented Border City Stretch which Gacy reversed into the Slaughter Choke. With nowhere to go Shelley tapped out as the champion retained. (Slaughter Choke, 9:43, (46))

    9. Barefoot No Rope Barbed Wire. 10,000 Thumbtacks and Broken Glass: Casanova Valentine vs. Masada It was now time for things to get bloody as we came to our main event of the evening where due to the nature of the match even walking around the ring was a painful experience. Valentine was looking to release pent up anger and a sense of revenge for one year ago and what Masada did. The two tore absolute strips off each other and were both a bloody mess by the time Masada deliver the Masadamizer spiking Valentine on his head on top of the tacks and glass for a long two count. Later in the match Casanova pulled out the boxing glove wrapped in barbed wire that everyone remembers from last year and as he ties Masada up in the barbed wire ropes he began just laying into his head repeatedly with the glove to the point where Masada was losing so much blood he passed out the match had to be stopped by referee Nick Papagiorgio. (Stoppage, 12:20, (36))

After the match was over and MASADA was taken to the back we had CASANOVA VALENTINE in the ring soaking up the adulation of the crowd as we were informed that just signed on for California Dreamin’ we will see LIO RUSH and ANTHONY GREENE go one on one after what we saw between the two earlier. As Valentine was about to leave the lights went out and when they came back on Valentine was tied up in the barbed wire like he did to MASADA. There were four men in the ring with three of them watching on as the smaller man was jamming what looked like a railroad spike into his head as blood flew everywhere. One of the three men standing took a cup and filled it up with the blood pouring from a now unconscious CASANOVA VALENTINE before handing it to the smaller man. The broadcast went off air with all four men in white suits and ski masks stood whilst the smaller one in the middle poured the blood over his own head covering his white suit as we faded to black. Post-Show Notes

No Injuries despite the brutal nature of some of the matches although Jimmy Rave has requested to be given time to heal.

There are no plans at this time to bring back the Apostles of Chaos. They were brought in as a one off only almost like a try out and were not very well received by either fans or management.

  12. Great diary really enjoying it..it inspired me to start my czw one and there seems to be a lot of puro diaries popping up too which are similarly formatted.

I personally would love to try the full brackets predicting although I would likely fail miserably haha

Great diary though easy to understand and simplified yet also gives all the relevant information to help those not as familiar.

    CZW News

From the desk of President Maven T. Bentley

    Written by Emil J

What a night we had at New Opportunities with so many things to talk about. Bear Country picked up a huge victory and as a result have now been given a huge opportunity as they have been entered into the Z-Barr Memorial. Before that however at 22 Not Out they will get the chance to take on Liam Gray and Leon Ruff of the Skulk in tag team action which is a precursor to the tournament himself as that particular team have also been officially announced for the tournament.

After his win over Matt Macintosh we will see the biggest test of KC Navarro’s title reign so far as the CZW Wired champion will defend against new number one contender Jimmy Lloyd. Lloyd picked up the massive win in the six man scramble match in opportunistic fashion but will he be out of his element with no weapons to utilise against Navarro who will surely be backed up by the rest of Blessed?

Speaking of Lloyd he has officially been granted a huge opportunity at California Dreamin’ as he will be part of a 4 way death match showcase. The other competitors have not yet been announced but it will be interesting to see who is nearer to the show.

Speaking of that six way match we saw Monsta Mack decimated on the outside of the ring. This was the first of two attacks on the night which we can officially announce that Storm of Depravity whoever or whatever they are have admitted responsibility for. In a video sent to us that you can see on the CZW YouTube the distorted voice is once again used to speak about how those who do not follow their path will face the consequences for their action. The video ends with an announcement that soon CZW will witness the storm and those who were cast aside or overlooked shall rise and rule the Combat Zone.

The injuries sustained will keep Mack off the next show, however he was given the opportunity to enter the Z-Barr Memorial but informed us that when he tried to call his usual partner Dan Maff there has been nobody picking up the calls. For this reason their tournament place has been given to The Rejects of John Wayne Murdoch and Reed Bentley. This hard hitting team could be a dark horse to go all the way.

Brandon Kirk and wife Kasey Catal did not seem to be on the same page after their loss in the tournament qualifier and could be seen leaving the arena separately. We have received word from Brandon that everything is all patched up now and they want a tag match to prove it. For this reason at 22 Not Out they will take on the team that pinned them in the American Murder Society. Kirk says they are out to right the wrong of the previous show and what better way to do it.

Two huge matches that were also signed for the show with Maven Bentley putting a true test on all three members of The Rep in CZW Rules matches. Kris Bishop will have his work cut out when he faces off against Deathmatch King Matt Tremont and form the video he put up on the CZW YouTube it is certainly not something he is looking forward to. Maven also alluded to a big surprise for the first round of the Z-Barr and he has officially told us that he will announce that surprise at 22 Not Out following the Rep vs. Apostles of Chaos match.

Anthony Greene picked up a huge win over John Silver and as a result has a busy couple of months ahead. Greene and long term partner Ava Everett have been announced as being a part of the Z-Barr Memorial tournament and surely must be considered up there with the favourites. Before that however he will be a part of a ten man ultimate opportunity ladder match.

This match will be for a guaranteed CZW title shot whenever and wherever you want. The eight announced participants are Anthony Greene, Jordan Oliver, John Silver, Adrian Alanis, Conor Claxton, a returning Devon Moore, Leroy Green and an opponent to be revealed on the night. This is a huge opportunity for all of these men to start off the year with a bang.

After the fallout of the main event we can announce that Joe Gacy will be ok to face Alex Shelley and in addition Jimmy Rave has requested a one on one match with Anthony Gangone. That request has been granted and we will see the two square off at 22 Not Out.

In addition to all of this we have got word that CZW veteran Niles “Sozio” Young will be inducted into the CZW Hall of Fame. Not one to mince his words, what will Sozio have to say?

This leaves us with a final card of this

  14. COMBAT ZONE WRESTLING: NEW OPPORTUNITIES

    The Coliseum, Voorhees, New Jersey

    Saturday Week 3, January 2021

LIVE ON IWTV AND FITE TV

Commentary: Emil Jay and Khaleef Bryant

    PRE-SHOW

Before the event backstage we saw backstage interview JEM MARTEL catching up with a number of those involved tonight. First of all she caught up with BRANDON KIRK and KASEY CATAL as the pair spoke about what a great opportunity it was tonight and how the other teams do not have same chemistry so cannot possibly win. (19)

After this she was then joined by BLESSED as JAE FRE used this opportunity to hype up KC NAVARRO and talk about how the stinky filthy disgusting slobs of New Jersey do not deserve to see him wrestle tonight. MATT MACINTOSH then came into the shot and stared down Navarro and his crew before announcing he beat him once and he will beat him again. He then proceeded to tap the belt on the shoulder of the “Blessed One” before walking off. (24)

The final interview saw ANTHONY GANGONE accompanied by VALENTINA VASQUEZ speaking about how back last year JIMMY RAVE disrespected him and brutally attacked his woman. Before he could finish his sentences however the light started to flicker as the two high tailed it out of there. With Jem stood there all alone the video feed cut to a short video of humanity suffering before a distorted voice whispered “Take a good look Combat Zone, the suffering will only get worse from here on in....A Storm of Depravity is coming”. (22)

    1. Tag Team Challenge: Bear Country (Bear Beefcake and Bear Bronson) vs. Jimmy Lyon and Matt Tremont A solid opening match with two hard hitting teams squaring off against one another. The coherence of the regular team in Bear Country could be seen as they spent a lot of time focusing on the weaker man of the opposing team in Chondo. In the end after Beefcake powerbombed Bronson directly onto a prone Chondo that was all she wrote. (Partner Powerbomb, 8:25 (38))

    2. Six Man Scramble for #1 Contender ship for the CZW Wired Title: Azrieal vs. Conor Claxton vs. Jimmy Lloyd vs. Monsta Mack vs. Leroy Green vs. Danny Gallagher An interesting dynamic in this one with three flyers and three workers more likely to be found in a back alley brawl. It made for a great match with some solid action including the usual everyone does a dive spot you find in most matches of this type. This rangers from a perfect moonsault from Green to Claxton almost killing himself with a tope where his foot caught the rope. The match took a sinister turn when two large men dressed head to toe in white with black ski masks came and took Mack out of the match leaving him a bloody mess on the outside. The ending came when Azrieal nailed Gallagher with a Frog Splash but Jimmy Lloyd sent him packing and stole the pin. (Pin Steal after Frog Splash from Azrieal, 8:26 (27))

    3. Z-Barr Memorial Tag Team Tournament Qualifier: Above The Rest (Gabriel Skye and Tristen Thai) vs. American Murder Society (Alex Reiman and Steve Off) vs. Alex Reynolds and Mark Sterling vs. Brandon Kirk and Kasey Catal Something about this one seemed a little off from the start with the teams not really gelling together somewhat. It was announced on commentary that this was elimination rules and first team to go was Above the Rest as Kirk nailed Thai with a Psychodriver for the three count. The married couple seemed in total control and also sent Reynolds packing with a spike piledriver. With only Off and Reiman to take down you had to think the odds sat in Kirk and Catal’s favour. Cockiness was their downfall however as they could have had the match won several times only to toy with AMS leading to Catal accidentally landing a superkick on Kirk who then was rolled up by Off giving the big win to the newcomers to the main show. (Roll Up, 10:20 (17))

We were then treated to an in ring appearance of the CZW President MAVEN T. BENTLEY as he was flanked by his new charge DK MEADOWS. Bentley talks about all of his issues in the past with The Rep and how they do not appreciate all he did for them. Announcing that now things are about to change he begins to speak about the punishment that lies in store for KRIS BISHOP and the tag team champions DAVE MCCALL and NATE CARTER. Just then the music of the champions cuts him off and the three members make their way out to stand in the entrance. Bentley says they have some nerve being here today when they are not scheduled and they will not be paid as services from them are not needed tonight although in a way he is glad they are here. Maven says he is glad to be able to announce in person that next month at the anniversary show The Rep will take on one of New York’s finest teams in a CZW rules match as they face the Apostles of Chaos, CHRIS BENNE and LOGAN BLACK and in addition to this Bishop may want Meadows but the latter has the night off so instead Bishop will go up against MATT TREMONT in another CZW rules match. As if that was not enough Maven says he has a big surprise for the champions in regards to their first round match at the Z-Barr Memorial. The boss then ends by getting security to escort the three of them from his show. The lights in the arena then go off and the video wall shows the same video from the pre-show about the Storm of Depravity. (19)

The wall then cuts to backstage where JEM MARTEL is trying to get an interview with BRANDON KIRK and KASEY CATAL as they argue about earlier with Catal walking away from her husband with her bags seemingly headed from the arena. (22)

    4. Special Challenge: John Silver vs. Anthony Greene w/ Ava Everett & Candy Cartwright This was a showcase of two former CZW World champions and certainly did not disappoint those in attendance as it was clear why one of them is on the radar of the WWE and the other works for AEW. This back and forth contest was evenly fought with the two ladies on the outside opting to cheerlead only. It turned out that Greene did not actually need any help in overcoming Silver as he picked up the big victory in what was arguably the match of the night with the Greene Light. After the match Greene extended his hand to Silver after a hard fought contest as the two shook hands as a sign of respect in the ring. (Green Light, 14:51 (33))

    5. CZW Wired Title: KC Navarro©[V1 Defense] w/Blessed vs. Matt Macintosh This match was a chance for fans to take a breather after the previous match had so many twists and turns. Before the contest Jae Fre trash talked New Jersey as always and this prompted Macintosh to curry the favour of the fans by jumping Blessed before the bell. After and early flurry from the challenger the numbers came caught up with him as there seemed to be distractions from all sides and in the end a perfect Frog Splash from Navarro gave the champion the win on his first defense. (Frog Splash 7:20, (25))

The video wall then cut to the streets where a familiar face was smoking a big blunt. That familiar face was long-time leader of the BLKOUT, ROBBIE MIRENO. Mireno began talking about it has been way too long since the Combat Zone was graced by their presence and his men have unfinished business. BLK JEEZ and RUCKUS then step into view and make some thinly veiled drug references before announcing they are entering the Z-Barr memorial. Mireno then cuts in and says that we all know you should always bet on black. (25)

    6. The Skulk (AR Fox, Adrian Alanis, Leon Ruff and Liam Gray) w/Ayla Fox vs. Young, Dumb and Broke (Jordan Oliver, Ellis Taylor, Charlie Tiger and Griffin McCoy) This had all the trappings of a great match early on until AR Fox took a bad tumble on a dive and suffered what looked to be a legitimate injury to his lower back. This moment essentially derailed the match as it became effectively a handicap match after this point. Due to this the numbers game soon caught up and YDaB dominated the match with them toying with the SKULK at times before Oliver finished of Gray with the Cleopatra for the win. After the match the young cocky stars celebrated in the ring as medical professionals tended to Fox who was clearly struggling. (Cleopatra, 20:15, (23))

Backstage with JEM MARTEL next right after their match were YOUNG, DUMB AND BROKE as they were in particularly celebratory mood with JORDAN OLIVER on cloud nine talking about how he can beat just about anyone that gets put in front of him and challenging CZW management to give him someone that tests him. Just then the CZW President MAVEN BENTLEY came into the shot and said that if Oliver wants a challenge he has one for him WrestleMania weekend at California Dreamin’. There is a man who has been waiting to return to the Combat Zone for a very long time, a man who will soon end a five year authorities enforced exile from the country, a man who has in that time wrestled all over the world. Maven announces that the first official match for WrestleMania weekend in California is Jordan Oliver taking on a returning MIKE BAILEY. (35)

    7. CZW World Heavyweight Title: Joe Gacy©[V7 Defense] vs. Jimmy Rave w/Prince Nana It was now time for our main event of the evening as Gacy defended against the veteran Rave. The two put on a solid match although the crowd knew that with Shelley on the horizon soon the likelihood of Gacy losing here was slim. An upset did look on the card as Rave was in control and signalling for the Rave Clash only to be distracted by Anthony Gangone jaw jacking from the ringside area. Gacy took his chance and locked in the Slaughter Choke for the win. (Slaughter Choke, 10:42, (32))

As the dust settled on the match and Gacy made his way back with the belt a dejected JIMMY RAVE was being consoled by PRINCE NANA in the ring only for Nana to be low blowed By VALENTINA VASQUEZ as ANTHONY GANGONE blindsided and beat down Rave. As he was standing tall however Emil J informed us that we needed to cut to the back where JOE GACY was laid with his head bleeding the middle of a corridor as the event went off the air. (38)

OVERALL SHOW RATING: 33 (Increased Popularity in the Region)

    Post Show Notes

AR Fox suffered a legitimate back injury thanks to a botch from Ellis Taylor. There is now tension between the two although it does not look like this will keep Fox out of action he may have to take it easy in the ring for 3 months or so until it heals.

Most recently he had a run with the CZW Wired Title after winning it from Jordan Oliver. Thanks to interference from Oliver’s stable mates who nailed him with a T-Gimmick Blockbuster he recently dropped the belt to KC Navarro. Likes to finish opponents off with the <strong>Foxcatcher (cutthroat brainbuster)</strong>.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="bxRwJuG.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/bxRwJuG.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="fMuXtqI.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/fMuXtqI.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="5uQATbg.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/5uQATbg.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> <span style="color:#FF0000;">Adrian Alanis/Leon Ruff/Liam Gray</span></p><p> </p><p> The other three members of the group are students of Fox. Griffin McCoy likes to employ a <strong>Springboard Roundhouse Kick</strong> to down opponents whilst Ellis Taylor does a great <strong>Tilt-A-Whirl Complete Shot.</strong> As a three they also deliver a T-Gimmick style move in homage to the Backseat Boyz where two hold the opponent whilst a third does a Blockbuster.</p><p> --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</p><p> <span style="font-size:14px;">THE REP</span></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="8IY6zY0.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/8IY6zY0.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="yIbRipG.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/yIbRipG.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="TD7gAL3.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TD7gAL3.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Dave Carter/Nate McCall/”The Missing Ingredient” Kris Bishop</strong></p><p> Originally just a group of two with Carter and McCall known as Dub Security. He recently joined forces with Valentina Vasquez after she parted ways with Young, Dumb and Broke. The two were all set for a special celebration recently but were cut off by Prince Nana and Jimmy Rave resulting in A Rave Clash for the lady. Gangone will have his sights set on some kind of revenge going forward.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="wUCPNZM.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wUCPNZM.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="dRPp6qi.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dRPp6qi.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Bxta22C.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Bxta22C.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>“Retrosexual” Anthony Greene & “Platinum Honey” Ava Everett w/”Cutie Pie” Candy Cartwright</strong></p><p> Fresh from their previously mentioned feud ending win over Reynolds and Sterling at Cage of Death XXI the team then faced their biggest challenge. This ended in defeat to the impressive Bear Country. Anthony likes to finish off opponents with the <strong>Greene Light (springboard three-quarter face lock cutter)</strong> whilst Ava is partial to a <strong>Chokeslam</strong> gaining her the nickname “Avataker”.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="NLemgax.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NLemgax.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>“The Good Guy” Azrieal</strong></p><p> The veteran of the Tri-State wrestling scene recently aligned with Jimmy Rave and Monsta Mack as a group of CZW originals. In CZW they recently had a losing effort in a challenge for the CZW Tag Team titles but will soon be back in with a shot you would expect as they tear through the competition.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="IL3xihI.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/IL3xihI.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="rBNnmuV.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rBNnmuV.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>“The Rogue” Brandon Kirk” & Kasey Catal</strong></p><p> This husband and wife duo are fresh off a long feud in 2019 with Jimmy Lloyd in which the lady defeated Lloyd in a brutal Squared Circle of Sacrifice match at Night of Infamy. They ultimately lost the feud however at Cage of Death XXI. Kirk bounced back at the 21st Anniversary show with a big victory over former CZW World champion John Silver so looks to be back on the right path. Kirk likes to finish opponents with the <strong>Psychodriver</strong> whilst Catal likes to utilize a <strong>Top Rope Hangman’s Neckbreaker.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="Iz0iSaR.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Iz0iSaR.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>“Brooklyn Black Death” Casanova Valentine</strong></p><p> The man known as “The King of the no ring Deathmatch” and “The Hipster Heartthrob” is no stranger to a number of brutal matches both in the Combat Zone and elsewhere. In 2019 he reached the Semi-Finals of Tournament of Death 18 before losing to Officer O’Hare. At the 21st Anniversary Show he returned and faced Masada in a No Rope Barbed Wire match. Valentine came out on the losing end as Masada’s wife distracted him allowing Masada to plant a number of skewers in his forehead before scoring the victory. One must assume this is far from over between those two. He likes to finish off his opponents with the <strong>Gentrification (Vertical Suplex Side Slam)</strong>.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="3yLcciE.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/3yLcciE.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p><strong> “The Wrench” Conor Claxton</strong></p><p> The Tournament of Death 18 winner was trained at the CZW Wrestling Academy and is a mainstay of the promotion. He is fresh from a feud he ended at Cage of Death XXI in a losing effort to John Silver and looking to gain back momentum.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="2wjPVfm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/2wjPVfm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="VqBqqhL.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/VqBqqhL.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>DK Meadows w/Maven Bentley</strong></p><p> DK Meadows is more of a regular on the Dojo Wars shows although he now seems to be carving out a path on the main roster. Whether that is the right one remains to be seen as he recently joined forces with Maven Bentley by turning on Kris Bishop to aide Bentley in his feud with The Rep. Meadows likes to end his matches with a <strong>Dragon Suplex</strong>.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="NjukjN7.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NjukjN7.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="86hLUHb.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/86hLUHb.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Above the Rest (Gabriel Skye and Tristen Thai)</strong></p><p> A solid high flying tag team yet to really break out which is in part due to Thai having an injury keeping him out for the number of months. The team are now fighting fit and ready to go.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="b5bEgCw.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/b5bEgCw.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>“Different Boy” Jimmy Lloyd</strong></p><p> Spending most of 2019 feuding with Brandon Kirk before winning their blow off match at Cage of Death XXI did wonder for the ever growing reputation of this young Deathmatch star. In 2018 he won Tournament of Death 17 and just keeps going from strength to strength and you would think he would soon be looking to add his first CZW title to his list of accolades.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="YZlVXr5.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/YZlVXr5.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>“The Redneck King of the Jungle” Jimmy Lyon</strong></p><p> An underrated Deathmatch star “Chondo” recently picked up his first win in CZW defeating TOD winner Conor Claxton albeit with a lot of help from John Silver. Not a regular so his role going forward remains to be seen.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="IwYK2mS.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/IwYK2mS.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="JU0nj1D.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/JU0nj1D.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Jimmy Rave w/Prince Nana</strong></p><p> Long term independent wrestler Jimmy Rave has been there and done that and at the moment is seen as one of the elder statesmen of the CZW roster. Fresh from a feud with Young, Dumb and Broke he recently reunited with long term manager Prince Nana and laid down a challenge for Joe Gacy to a match. This was scheduled originally for Unstoppable but that event was cancelled due to COVID-19 so expect that match to be rescheduled soon. Among his large arsenal of signature moves Rave likes to use <strong>From Dusk till Dawn (Tilt-a-whirl headscissors transitioned into a crossface)</strong>.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="woIO4jY.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/woIO4jY.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p><strong> “The Unwanted Maniac” Joe Gacy</strong></p><p> The CZW World champion is one of the top stars on the roster but also the one with arguably the biggest chip on his shoulder. Gacy feels that he has often been overlooked and unwanted by management. Returning from being barely used over the previous years he won the title in September and since then has defended it against all-comers. There will be no shortage of people queuing up for a shot but many will fall victim to the <strong>Slaughter Choke</strong>.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="S6zwL4j.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/S6zwL4j.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>“The Meat Man” John Silver</strong></p><p> Former CZW World champion and Best of the Best 18 winner John Silver is one of the top stars in CZW and had a stellar 2019 defending against all-comers until he lost the title. From there he came out victorious in a feud with Conor Claxton before losing to Brandon Kirk at the 21st Anniversary Show. The only question mark over him going forward is due to his role in AEW whether or not he will be available on a regular basis. He likes to use the the <strong>Silver Stone (Running punt kick)</strong>.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="wPawvzP.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wPawvzP.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>“The Ultraviolent Beast” Masada</strong></p><p> Masada is a two time winner of the Tournament of Death, winning both 10 and 11. He also won the co-promoted Tournament of Death Europe with wXw in 2012. A History of CZW to this point.

(Some taken from Wikipedia, some written myself and after the cut off is part fabricated/part truth to remove DJ from the equation)

Combat Zone Wrestling was formed by John Zandig in 1998 and began running shows in 1999. The company filled a niche for hardcore wrestling fans that had been left open by the folding of Extreme Championship Wrestling.

CZW established themselves as the leading American hardcore wrestling promotion at the ECW Arena with their Cage of Death 3 show in 2001, the year ECW folded.

At this event Justice Pain defeated Wifebeater in the main event Cage of Death after a brutal war. This was followed by the arena lights going out and an invasion of ECW Alumni including Rockin’ Rebel, Rocco Rock and former ECW owner Tod Gordon. This lead ultimately to The Sandman turning on the ECW contingent and revealing a CZW shirt to show this truly was a turning point.

Over the years under Zandig he did a lot of things right and heck of a lot of things wrong. His stubbornness and at time selfishness were often seen as to blame for a number of deals and agreements to go south. One of the earliest of which was a working agreement with Big Japan Pro Wrestling which ended with Zandig walking out with BJW Deathmatch Championship. There are many rumours as to why the deal went wrong but most people rested the blame at the CZW owner’s feet at that time.

In spring 2001, the company secured a TV taping for the show Take 1. During the main event as part of a balcony dive, Ric Blade suffered a broken leg after landing on Justice Pain, who laid upon two stacked tables, Nick Gage was to attempt the second dive with Lobo a few meters away.

Gage slipped and fell from atop the balcony to the ground, but was able to continue, unlike Blade who had to be stretchered out. The spot was cut from TV. The TV tapings aired on WGTW-48, as a part of CZW's very own show Fake You TV, which was available in many north-eastern states in the US.

After many business changes by the WGTW-48 production team over the years, including a time slot change from Saturdays at 9.00PM to a weeknight at midnight slot, to compete with other promotions, this idea was a failure and Fake You TV continued to strive. CZW continued to endure every business decision that WGTW-48 formulated and executed until the channel decided not to air the June 18, 2004 episode due to its content, through negative effects on the fans and after much consideration, CZW decided to withdraw the show indefinitely.

Whilst this was a bitter blow to the company they always had a habit of bouncing back in the past including when New Jersey banned the use of ultraviolent weapons (such as glass, barbed wire, and fire) in wrestling and as several promotions competed for the Northeast fan base that had been left behind by ECW in what became known as the 'Indy Wars."

CZW, XPW, and 3PW were the key promotions which revolved around Viking Hall. XPW were given the lease to the arena in very late 2002 after Rob Black offered around $60,000. On December 12, 2002, as part of a triple header of wrestling in Philadelphia Ring of Honor ran shows in conjunction with CZW and 3PW in what was to be the latter two promotions last events in the arena.

During CZW's event, Zandig publicly stated that they had offered $32,000 to stay in the arena, but also stating that with the $10,000 a month XPW would need to pay for the building, the lease would not last long.

CZW made their return to the arena on March 8, 2003 once XPW folded as well as running solid business ventures including a promotion war invasion with IWA Mid South and a tour of Italy.

IWA Mid South invaded CZW as part of an angle which led to an inter-promotional feud throughout most of 2003. During the night of the initial invasion, the crowd was so riled up that they began hurling chairs into the ring at Ian Rotten, Corporal Robinson, and J.C. Bailey. The Delaware wrestling commissioner, who was in the ring at the time, was struck in the side of the head.

The feud was based in both promotions and a major part led into CZW's Tournament of Death 2, five IWA-MS wrestlers and three CZW wrestlers entered into the 8-man single elimination tournament. The semi-final saw two CZW wrestlers John Zandig and Nick Mondo compete in a 2 out of 3 light tube log cabin match, a match which is said to have ended Nick Mondo's career (However, In Mondo's shoot interview he stated that T.O.D 2 was going to be his last appearance anyway). Towards the end of the match Zandig Mother F'N Bombed Nick Mondo off a 40 ft. rooftop as both Zandig and Mondo crashed into tables and a light tube log cabin contraption. He continued the Tournament with 3 broken bones in his wrist and won the tournament after defeating Ian Rotten in a 200 light tubes final.

Later in the year during John Zandig's feud with heel stable the Hi-5, Zandig was suspended in the middle of the ring by meat hooks from the roof of the arena. The incident led into the setup of the main event at Cage of Death 2003, where a cage was suspended from the roof, the event was called Cage of Death 5: Suspended. The company remained successful that year and had a sold-out crowd for their annual Cage of Death show.

During 2005, CZW established a connection with local promotion Chikara, which established into a joint training school known as 'The Wrestle Factory' in the New Alhambra Arena, with head trainers Chris Hero and Mike Quackenbush. In2007, CZW departed from the training school to form their own, much like their older school.

The company remained strong in the forthcoming years with new booker, Mike Burns, who was responsible for one of the best runs in the promotion's history. Pancoast Productions, a company which for many years was responsible for a lot of CZW's logos and Titan Tron work, among other things, briefly departed from the company in late 2005 after an altercation between Pancoast Productions owner Mike Pancoast and John Zandig.

At their Cage of Death 7 show at the end of 2005, former CZW Ironman Champion Chris Hero cut a promo challenging "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson to a match at the next show. Backstage during this promo, CZW owner John Zandig was furious. Zandig did not know of the deal that CZW booker, Mike Burns arranged with Ring of Honor Booker, Gabe Sapolsky. The news of CZW working with ROH made Zandig go into a frenzy. Zandig was approached backstage by Mike Pancoast, after a very vocal argument Zandig pushed him down a flight of stairs. One worker quoted Zandig telling Pancoast, "Make sure to grab the rail on your way down."

Zandig then seemed to lose the passion for the business and after everything fell apart with Burns the company began treading water with numerous seemingly random people being given the book including Bret Lauderdale, Robbie Mireno and Drew Gulak.

In 2009 Zandig sold the company to David “DJ Hyde” Markland which in the beginning seemed a master stroke for the company as they had been treading water for some time. They broke new ground holding shows at home and abroad and bringing back popular names such as Homicide, BJ Whitmer and The Briscoe Brothers.

In January 2012, CZW & ECW's arena was sold and was later temporarily closed, not reopening until December 2013. The closing of the venue forced CZW to look for a new home, now running monthly events at Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, New Jersey. After 13 years in business together, in 2013 Combat Zone Wrestling and Smart Mark Home Video ceased partnership after a falling-out.

CZW moved on to RFVideo which was nowhere near as profitable. As Hyde continued to cut costs in 2017, it was reported Dave Marquez had bought into Combat Zone Wrestling as part-owner of the company.

As time has gone on the company has become a shell of its former self. Hyde replaced many of the top stars with students and cheap local talent with the company struggling to draw into treble figures outside of the larger flagship events.

Many people feared that Hyde was taking away any value CZW had left with hardcore fans looking for the company to close and local flyers for the shows just advertising wrestling as opposed to using the company name.

As a part of the scandals of 2020 DJ Hyde was implicated with some things he had both said and allegedly done to female talent. To top this off he was chastised by former employees including LuFisto and Chrissy Rivera for his role in CZW/WSU footage of female matches being promoted on PPV with names more suited to softcore pornography such as “Top Heavy and Tough” and “Double D Destruction”.

Within the company itself there had been an angle where DJ had to relinquish control. With COVID-19 taking hold of the United States and CZW not running shows for a number of months the news broke in October 2020 that the company was to be shut down by DJ.

That was until Maven Bentley came in with an unnamed investor that bought the company from Hyde and Marquez. One of the conditions of buying the company was that DJ would retire from wrestling for good never to return.

As of December 2020 with the world returning to normality it was announced that CZW would be returning in January. The company will pick up where it left off in terms of stories etc. whilst looking to win back a fan base burned so many times in the past.

This diary will start January 2021 and will carry on from CZW last shows and storylines. Danny DeManto defeating Joe Gacy on a random show elsewhere for the world title then losing it back right away will not be part of this world
