I had an idea last night where we could create our own products by choosing the effects we want. That way we can tailor promotions to our own visions. I like the current system, just wish we had some customization for promotions that don't fit the current product system.

It was like that in TEW 2016. I've gotten used to the way things are now, but it was nice to have the free choice.

  2. GOD ALMIGHTY! - This worker recently made an iconic call on commentary that they can fall back on. Every show will have at least 1 segment that they're announcing for get a massive boost due to it, with the main event prioritized. The effectiveness of the boost is diminished slightly every time it's used, until eventually fans grow sick of it, at which point it gives a slight penalty, that grows each subsequent time it's used. [This attribute is automatically temporary and lasts anywhere between 3 months and 2 years.]

Elaborate Entrance - This worker's entrance takes quite a lot of prep work, and/or lasts longer than most. Their segment ratings are improved slightly due to the cool entrance, but every match segment of theirs, and angle during which they're on-screen, has a longer default time because of it.

Working Another Job - This worker has a second job that isn't listed here already. One to three days (decided randomly at the start of the game) will be taken up by this other job, and they will not be able to show up for shows on those days. This trait does not apply if they're making a certain amount of money.

Comedian - This worker is exceptionally good at comedy, standing out amongst a sea of gimmicky wrestlers. They're treated as if they have the "notable comedy match performer" trait, they can successfully play comedy characters even in promotions that would normally be penalized for that, and they add little comedic moments to all of their matches, which boosts the rating, except against wrestlers with the "keeps kayfabe" or "extremely old-school" trait, in which case it lowers the rating, as their opponent doesn't play along.

I Win LOL - This worker wins so much that the fans are sick of it. They get a penalty to the rating of every match they win, but a massive boost to any they lose. If this worker is a champion, the effects of this trait are boosted proportionately to the prestige of the title.

  3. Just a quick thought I had (it's 5:30 in the morning, so please forgive the stupidbrain), but what if, similarly to how companies can have different settings for "Face and Heel" or "Tecnico and Rudo" that's just cosmetic, why not also have features to call the workers on your roster either "wrestlers" or "superstars" and the women either "women" or "divas" or even "valets" (maybe knockouts, if you can get away with it)?

IDK, just a tiredbrain thought before going to bed.

  4. Absolute Indy - For a company that's not very big, but embraces that and just does the best it can with who it has. The company's long-term goal is simply to put on the best shows possible.

Fans will expect events to be 95% matches and 5% angles.

Fans will expect TV shows to be 85% matches and 15% angles.

    Matches are based 90%/10% in-ring action/popularity.

Matches less than 20 minutes will not be able to achieve world-class scores.

Fans will be open to any match type.

Gimmicks aren't necessary, but will have an impact if used.

Attendance figures are strongly affected by the state of the wrestling industry.

Since most of the time indy shows aren't broadcast, getting sponsors will be tough.

Unmasking a wrestler can add a little heat to a segment.

Comedy gimmicks can be used even by stars and major stars.

Having someone shaved bald as a forfeit can add a little heat to a segment.

The company will find getting TV deals more difficult than usual.

  5. I'd like to see an "everything but" feature on the contract menu, for when someone's bad at only one of their roles that isn't a wrestling role. For example, I just had Jesse Ventura nearly ruin a show for me because I had him set to "whatever is needed" and didn't realize he sucks as a road agent. Now I have to rehire him to be exclusively a colour commentator, even though in this database he can also be a wrestler, because I don't want to have to take the extra time every show to make sure he's not the road agent in any of the matches. I have to forego him being a wrestler now, and I think the inclusion of an "everything but..." feature in the "Your role on the roster would be..." section of the contract menu would fix that problem. Or even choosing the specific roles you want them to be, like you can do in the editor when setting up the contracts in advance.

It's for very specific cases, I understand, but I think if a worker is a very talented wrestler and announcer, but a really bad referee, it should be reasonable to be able to say "I want you only as a wrestler and announcer" without having to completely forgo one or the other.

  6. So I've thought of something strange.

Let's say there's a wrestler who can also be a colour commentator (like Jerry Lawler, for instance), and that worker is hired by an all-female promotion, meaning they can only use him as a commentator. There should be an alter ego you can give him that's set to something like "Non-Wrestling Roles Only" or even an option that's for "All-Female Promotions" so that he won't have his wrestling picture displayed. It's not a huge deal, since like... he'll still have the same name and everything, but I think an option to change that would be nice. :)

  7. Stuck In The Past - While AI controlled and set to book a company, this worker will book in the "old school" style of whatever region they're in (meaning they'll only book singles & tag team matches with occasional multi-person matches for special attractions), regardless of what the company's AI Booking Style is set to.

On A Tight Leash - This worker, while acting as a booker/owner with an inexperienced owner/booker, or while acting as owner AND booker, will completely abuse their power, making wild and erratic hiring decisions and booking choices, basically throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. However, when working with an experienced owner/booker, they behave as normal.

Natural-Born Shiner - This worker has the natural talent to make ANYONE look better in the ring. All of their opponents get a boost to their in-ring match ratings when in 1-on-1 or 2-on-2 matches against them.

Blacklisted - This worker has, one way or another, destroyed their own reputation. AI companies will have a much lower chance of hiring them, and their overall contract value will go way down. Crowds will be put off by seeing them. They cannot form any new positive relationships, and while working as a Road Agent, workers will be a lot less likely to listen to them. When working as an owner or booker, the company's attendance figures will take a massive penalty. [This trait is automatically temporary and lasts anywhere between 1 and 20 years.]

You Think You Know Me - This worker has an iconic theme song that they take with them everywhere. Their contract value will be higher because of the licensing costs of the song, but in exchange, they get a slight boost to every segment rating because of the song.

Camera Shy - Generally to be used on workers in their rookie year. This worker, when working on a broadcasted event, will naturally hold back, as they're not comfortable being on camera. [This trait is automatically temporary and lasts anywhere between 3 months and 2 years.]

  8. To add onto that, I think one-sided relationships, like you can have with companies, would be a good idea as well. So like, if one person blames another for an injury, the person who caused the injury isn't going to start hating that person, that wouldn't make sense. Plus, for relationships like, if one promoter hates another, but the other one is fairly neutral towards them & has no interest in a war. (*Possibly based on real events)

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: This worker has recently been involved in a real life event that made them seen in a very positive light. As such, if booked properly, they'll receive a popularity boost. This attribute may last from 3 months to 2 years.

Basically, this attribute is there to simulate workers who saved someone from drowning, stopped a dangerous criminal, or did something spectacularly brave to save a life. Not sure about the name, though, but I had no better idea.

I was gonna say "So Shines a Good Deed..." to reference Willy Wonka, my favourite movie, but then I realized, it should be something to do with Shad, since he died saving his son, right? It'd be a nice tribute. Maybe "Gaspardian", a mixture of Gaspard, Shad's last name, and guardian? Don't love that name, but it's the first thing I thought of.

  10. I'd love a feature where you can sort by types of contracts. It'd make shortlists a lot easier if you could sort it to be only people with exclusive written contracts, so you can wait for them to end. Or you can search for only non-exclusive contracts, or exclusive handshake contracts, so you can snipe them instead. Or even sort by "To Hire" and an exclusive written contract, to see whose contract is up that you maybe forgot to shortlist. Just a few ideas, I hope this gets implemented, it's kind of a pain to have to go to every company and only shortlist their exclusive written contracts by hand. It wastes time.

  11. Hey, how about a thing that'd make a "disease" rated injury contagious? So they can wrestle through it, but in doing so they're likely to get their opponent sick as well? Their resilience still plays into it, but it means that an out-of-ring injury could be spread in the ring. Maybe with different levels of contagiousness, ranging from "Not Contagious" to "Extremely Contagious"? Also, maybe there can be an attribute called "Immunity" where the wrestler can't get sick via contagious diseases? Just some ideas. :)

In theory, you could always have a middle ground: if you pick someone, you might get a bonus if they're good (Justin Roberts, Samantha Irvine, etc), a malus if they're particularly bad, and if you don't pick anyone then you have neither bonuses nor maluses. More or less like picking a figurehead, if you will.

However, yes, it's difficult to determine what they should be based on: Mic Skills doesn't really fit, because it is for how well they do promos, and things like Charisma or Acting would not fit much better. Maybe an attribute rather than a skill, like "Recognised Ring Announcer", that could be gained with experience, or something about a worker's voice ? Maybe a combination of skills, but with a much lower threshold to gain bonuses, since said bonus would be insignificant ?

It could be its own skill like Announcing or Colour. Or maybe, like you said, a combination of several, like maybe mic and announcing, but diminished since it's kind of both but also kind of neither of those? It's hard to say.

(Also apologies for my spelling of colour; I'm Canadian. xP)

  13. Hmm... we could make it so that if you're a certain size or lower you need to assign a ring announcer, but as you get past a certain size it's optional? I'm mostly just thinking of a use for people like Justin Roberts, Lilian Garcia, Howard Finkel, etc. without just removing them from the game or having them do things that they never did IRL. It's mostly for the sake of realism, though I get that going too much into that would just make things tedious, so there needs to be a cutoff point. I think what we have now is fine, but it would be nice to be able to assign some people to be like, an unseen/minor part of every show so that they don't complain about being left off despite being an important part of running things.

It's been suggested before and if memory serves, Word of God is that ring announcers don't need to be in the database as Workers, and are the kind of minutia that is simply simulated by your level of Production Values.

As Workers, rating them on Microphone skills wouldn't really make sense, because either you give them a terrible/mediocre rating and then they hurt every match, or you give them a high rating and then you'd be a fool not to "cheat" and have The Fink cut 20 minute promos on every single show.

Ultimately it's hard to define what makes a good or bad ring announcer but the fact is, ring announcers don't make or break a match, the difference they make, positive or negative, is not noticeable enough.

I appreciate where you're coming from. I do think that balancing is an issue, but you could just have him do that anyway. 😛 We don't have to have them do anything, it's mostly for lore and realism purposes. And I don't really see what else they could be rated on.

  15. Sorry if this has been said before, but I think Ring Announcer should be its own role. It's weird having Justin Roberts on the commentary table, or interviewing people. I think having "Ring Announcer" as a role makes sense. Matches could get a bonus (or penalty) from the ring announcer's performance if it's good (or bad) enough, and maybe they can be rated exclusively on Microphone skill, so a new skill wouldn't even have to be added!

I think this should replace the "in-ring skill/popularity"(that all products are rated on) with "sex appeal/popularity" for products where it makes sense. Good suggestion

Thanks! Yeah, that's what I was going for. That or "in-ring skill/sex appeal". But your works well too.

I think this should just be what every single company does if it happens to them, not an attribute. But since it isn't I will let you off the hook ;)

Heheh, yeah, that SHOULD be how it works, but unfortunately, not quite.

Really like this as a concept

    Thank you. :)

I've thought of a few more, actually.

Territory Wrestling - This company is from the "territory days" and so will never have shows anywhere but its own region. (This attribute isn't seen much after the 1970's, and so will start naturally disappearing after that.)

"Licensed" - This company uses licensed music but doesn't pay for it. If they have at least 1 broadcasting deal, then there's a chance they'll be caught and have to pay for it. If not, though, then there's no risk.

The Ring Is Different!  - This company has a non-square ring. Its ratings are slightly affected, having a chance to be either slightly dampened or slightly enhanced by the crowd reaction to the differently-shaped ring each show. [This attribute is automatically temporary and lasts between 6 months and 1 year.]

Erotic Wrestling - This company is meant to make its viewers horny. Its matches are rated on sex appeal in place of popularity. The rest of the product rules still apply as normal.

Tribute Shows - This company will always have a tribute show if a wrestler who's actively working for them dies. It will be scheduled for the following show, or the first day possible of the following week, whichever comes first.

Experimental - This company is a little avant garde. It will attract a lot more fans in its infancy, but once the novelty has worn off, it will attract fewer than normal. (This takes a random time between 6 months and 5 years.)

Brand Supremacy - This company treats its separate brands as... well, just that. Separate. It will get different turnouts for differently-branded shows, wrestlers are ONLY allowed on one show or the other, no free agents are allowed, and every year they will have a mandatory "draft" show, where a bunch of their workers will swap brands, to provide some variety.

  18. Also A Fan - This worker knows what the fans want, because they want it too. They automatically become a booker, and will slowly gain booking skill even when not booking, and will gain it much faster when they ARE booking. (This attribute does not affect the worker's booking reputation.)

Bad With Money - This worker probably should've retired a long time ago, but they need the money. They'll never leave the business. When they retire from in-ring competition, they'll automatically become an Occasional Wrestler. Also, they're treated as if they have the "Money Motivated" and "Can't Stay Away" attributes.

Barefoot Wrestling - This worker foregoes boots when working a match. When they get an in-ring injury, it's more likely to be one that damages the legs.

Benjamin Button Syndrome - Like a fine wine, this worker actually gets better with age. They will never experience time decline, and will hold off on retirement for an additional 10-20 years, unless forced to via injury.

Better As Figurehead - This worker is naturally suited to being the figurehead of a company. They get a boost to all matches and a slight boost to all non-match segments when working as one.

Can't Do Tag Teams - This worker just isn't suited for tag team wrestling. They get a penalty to their match performance every time they're in a tag team match.

Nepotist - When working as a booker, this worker will give preferential treatment to those they have a positive relationship with. When hiring, they'll also be a lot more likely to reach out to people they have a positive relationship with.

Stable Specialist - This worker is really good at working in a group of 3 or more, and will get a bonus in matches where they're on a large team.

Twitch Streamer - This worker uses Twitch. They gain popularity even when not working shows.

Veteran - This worker has been in the business a long time. Their respect rises a lot faster than usual. They want to make a good impression on the younger talent, meaning they automatically have a positive backstage influence, regardless of their personality (this doesn't cancel out the special negative properties of personality types like Troublemaker or Agitator). [This attribute is automatically permanent and is given to a worker after 20 years.]

What? - This worker has recently made a new chant that's caught on. Their segment ratings are increased, and their non-match segments lengths are slightly extended because the crowd won't stop chanting it. [This attribute is automatically temporary and lasts anywhere between six months and three years.]

  19. For owners, we've got the finance options of "Mean", "Prudent", "Average" and "Flashy". I think there should be one more, one that is to flashy what mean is to prudent, so that Average is... well, right in the middle. Makes sense to me.

Maybe we could call it something like "Unwise" or "Extravagant". I'm not sure what exactly to call it, but something along either of those lines would be fine.

That's it. Not much to this one, I just think there should be 5 options so "Average" can be in the middle where it belongs.

  20. Something I'd like to see in the next iteration of TEW, personally, is companies having attributes like workers do. Not like the ones in the products, I mean like individual ones, again like workers have.

    Some examples I thought of:

A Hint of Comedy - This company can have 1 or 2 stars or major stars with comedy gimmicks. More than that and they all get a penalty.

Superhero Booking - While AI controlled, this company will always have a figurehead, provided they have at least 1 wrestler.

Guaranteed Spot - This company can start hiring people before it's opened. Their contracts will start once the company opens.

Nostalgia Booking - Any wrestler 45 or older working for this company gets a boost to their popularity gain. However, anyone 25 or under will get a penalty.

Announcer Participation - Any non-wrestler working for this company can still participate in matches. The AI will book them as occasional wrestlers.

Staying Power - This company's been around for long enough that it's almost impossible for it to close. The company is less affected by things like scandals and industry crashes, and is more attractive to sponsors. [This attribute is automatically permanent and is assigned to a company after 20 years.]

Overcrowded - This company is used to having many more workers on the roster than it knows what to do with. If the roster is at least 20 more than it needs, all workers are treated as if they have the "undemanding" attribute. If run by an AI, the company will always try to hire more workers than it needs.

Monday Night Wars - This company's viewership is affected more strongly by competing with other shows.

Board of Directors - This company has a board of directors. The company's more favourable to sponsors, but its maximum risk rating is lowered. The "No Spinal Impact Moves" trait is added, if the company didn't have it already. The (non-player) owner of the company can get removed if their publicity is bad enough.

IDK, maybe some of these could just be traits of the company owners, but some I think could work. :)
