  1. Couple things I noticed while setting up my AEW game: - Matt Mahoney & Matt Makowski have the same photo. - Max Caster is listed as 23. He's actually a lot older than I expected and born in July 1989, so he should be 30 here. His father is Rich Caster, who played in the NFL in the 70's. - Is there a reason not to add the AEW Dynamite Diamond Ring and Casino Battle Royales (men and women -- tag team might be hard to replicate) as accomplishment titles for AEW? These have been steady accomplishments AEW's used beginning before the game starts to the present day. - Ryan Davidson & Ryan Donavon have the same photo. - Wheeler Yuta is listed as 26. As far as I can tell he was born ~1997 and should be 22-23 here. He started wrestling when he was 16 which might be why he's listed as older. - Rok-C and Lee "TAIGASTYLE" Moriarty don't appear to be in the database. That was a tough one for me as they're two of my favorite young wrestlers.
  2. Love this. I've always been incredibly intrigued by how earth-shattering the period about August '83 to August '84 was for the wrestling industry -- Inoki's Brazilian scandal that led to Tiger Mask leaving and the formation of the UWF, Starrcade '83, Hogan jumping from the AWA, David Von Erich dying, Black Saturday (and the ramifications for GCW, Crockett, WWF/Wrestlemania, and Mid-South), the WWF/MTV alliance, WWF buying Stampede and Maple Leaf and ownership changes in Montreal, etc. There was also some interesting stuff going in Mexico in 84/85 -- lucha libre was banned on TV in Mexico City, but AWWA briefly got onto TV there. They got shut down in 84, only for the lucha libre union to successfully challenge that law in 85, although it took years for lucha libre to return to TV. I always thought it was interesting that if the AWWA had been able to challenge the law before losing their show, they might have been able to use TV to challenge the traditional (and much more conservative) companies in Mexico. There's so many interesting alternate history jump-off points from that one year. I'd probably want to play the game from November or December '83, but that should be easy enough to edit.
  3. <p>TheSmackdownHotel.com revealed a Roster Database today containing info on any date in history for many companies, which would be a pretty useful resource for modders: </p><div class="ipsEmbeddedOther"> <iframe data-embedid="2359521a7de49bfd5a209deb8ffc9358" allowfullscreen="" data-embed-src="<___base_url___>/index.php?app=core&module=system&controller=embed&url=https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/i1bmqk/after_2_years_of_work_were_releasing_a_roster/"></iframe> </div><p> </p><p> Example - WCW's roster in 1992: <a href="https://www.thesmackdownhotel.com/roster/?promotion=wcw&date=1992" rel="external nofollow">https://www.thesmackdownhotel.com/roster/?promotion=wcw&date=1992</a></p><p> </p><p> Example - Kevin Nash's biography, with heel/face turn dates, name usage dates, tag team dates, image history, etc.: <a href="https://www.thesmackdownhotel.com/wrestlers/kevin-nash" rel="external nofollow">https://www.thesmackdownhotel.com/wrestlers/kevin-nash</a></p><p> </p><p> I'm not involved with this in any way -- just thought it'd be useful for modders here. I noticed a lot of folks with incomplete data, and obviously it's biased towards bigger names, but it looks awesome when filled out (like Nash's profile).</p>
  4. I agree, but your point was that the AEW crowd wouldn't be into her, when we know that they were. They were actually very into her, and it has to be more than just the live crowd being into everything, as her reactions were far better than almost every other woman to ever perform in front of an AEW crowd. There has to be something there that appeals to the "smarky" crowd, as you said.
  5. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Henderson" data-cite="Henderson" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="49480" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I've ran into a problem and have no idea where to go with it. I don't think it's an issue with the mod per-se, but an issue.<p> </p><p> WCW, in real life, leaves the NWA in January 1991. As similar to real life, I had WCW leave as well. The problem I've ran into is, Sting is still the NWA world champion and I can't find a way to vacate the title.</p><p> </p><p> I would have assumed that once leaving the Alliance, if I have the world champion on my roster, that would cause the title to then be vacated. It doesn't. So how do I get the NWA world title off of Sting?</p><p> </p><p> I also am at a crossroads with my other titles. They are NWA titles, which are, in the game, owned by WCW. Do I just edit the names from NWA (NWA US Champion) to WCW and continue the lineage, or retire the titles and make new WCW ones and put the same champions back on them?</p></div></blockquote><p> WCW didn't leave the NWA until 1993. They began recognizing WCW-branded titles in January 1991, which is different. Flair held both the WCW and NWA World titles separately until he left WCW -- he was stripped of the WCW title when he was fired in June, but held onto the NWA title until he began showing up in the WWF in September, and then the title was back on WCW television throughout 1992 and 1993. Leaving the NWA or vacating the NWA World title at the point you're at does not reflect real life, so it's not a problem, just a choice you made.</p><p> </p><p> Also, there were really only two NWA championships at this point -- the men's and women's World titles. The NWA only introduced their own World Tag Team titles in 1992, in WCW (because WCW was still in the NWA). Every other "NWA" title was just a regional company using the NWA's name for credibility. All of those titles just changed their names and kept their lineage going. According to Wikipedia, there were THIRTEEN different versions of the NWA World Tag Team titles in 1957.</p>
  6. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="JamHead" data-cite="JamHead" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="49480" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>New Japan left NWA in 1985 and rejoined in 1992.<p> </p></div></blockquote><p> That didn't stop Fujinami from winning the title in March 1991. I don't really think there was that much difference between their relationship with the NWA in '91 and '92 in practice.</p><p> </p><p> If anyone wants to realistically represent the WCW/NJPW/NWA relationship in 1991, they should just edit NJPW into the NWA a year early. It's probably the only way to actually run the WCW/NJPW supershows. Based on the way 2016 worked, I doubt there's any way to convince NJPW to join the NWA in 1992 once the game's begun anyway.</p>
  7. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="tryker2710" data-cite="tryker2710" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="49440" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>She's one of the most over hyped wrestlers around at the moment so I feel it's realistic that a more "smarky" crowd wouldn't be in to her due to lower skills than the likes of Shida</div></blockquote><p> She's top 5 in crowd reactions that I can recall. Her stuff with Britt Baker was getting over way better than it had any right to. I'm not personally impressed by her, but still, the Bea/Britt pops might only trail Riho's pops.</p><p> </p><p> The show where Baker got the concussion I specifically remember blowing up and it was on the preshow even. I barely even knew who she was and was shocked at the reaction.</p>
  8. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="JamHead" data-cite="JamHead" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="49480" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>It's really there for 'realism' sake. If you look NJPW has a similar show. I knew the AI was never going to be able to full pull it off, so I ended up making it 2 shows. 1 that WCW puts on and another that NJPW does. So, really you could just drop it or just run a WCW show in Japan. I'll take a look at Japanese popularities in WCW and see if there are any I can boost to allow more trades with New Japan.</div></blockquote><p> Shouldn't NJPW be considered a member of the NWA? That should allow talent sharing for that show (at least in 2016; haven't had time to dive that deep into 2020 yet).</p><p> </p><p> I don't know if NJPW was formally considered a part of the NWA at that point, but the WCW/NJPW alliance effectively was the NWA between 1991 and 1993, with Tatsumi Fujinami (kinda), Masahiro Chono, and Keiji Mutoh all winning the NWA World title. Considering NJPW part of the NWA seems like the only way to reflect reality there.</p>

As much as I love them though, I also hate them as I know I'm going to have to do both Territory Daze and Shifting Sands in this style eventually and it's going to be a long and laborious task. xD As if updating from TEW16 to TEW20 wasn't bad enough. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div></blockquote><p> This! I've always wished there was a way to really adopt the changing BGs for mods fully but the GIF format is so limited. This perfectly works around that limitation and looks great.</p>
  10. <p>From previous plays, I never understood why so few tag chemistries existed in the mod. It's really oddly selective - Like Nash and DDP have good chemistry, but the Road Warriors and Steiners don't? The Outsiders are pre-loaded with great chemistry for the later 90s, but none of the other great later 90s teams are there (Dudleys, Outlaws, Hardys, E&C).</p><p> </p><p> Going off of the wrestlers in the database, I'd suggest adding all of the following for North American tag chemistry:</p><p> </p><p> Great:</p><p> Edge & Christian Cage (Edge & Christian, 2000 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> Eddie Guerrero & Art Barr (Los Gringos Locos, 1994 WON Tag Team of the Year, Barr dies right after their 5* When Worlds Collide coming out party)</p><p> Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard (The Brainbusters)</p><p> Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers (The Fantastics, in Meltzer's debate for the greatest tag team match of all time)</p><p> Bobby Eaton & Dennis Condrey (The Midnight Express, 1986 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane (The Midnight Express, 1987/88 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> Terry Gordy & Steve Williams (The Miracle Violence Connection, 1992 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley (The Motor City Machine Guns)</p><p> Road Warrior Animal & Road Warrior Hawk (The Road Warriors, 1984 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> Rick Steiner & Scott Steiner (Steiner Brothers, 1990 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson (The Young Bucks, 2014/15/16/17/18 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe (Briscoe Brothers, 2007 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> Frankie Kazarian & Christopher Daniels (The Addiction/Bad Influence/SCU, 2012 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> Claudio Castagnoli & Chris Hero (Kings of Wrestling, 2010 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty (The Rockers, 1989 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> Steve Austin & Brian Pillman (The Hollywood Blondes, 1993 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> Eddie Guerrero & Chavo Guerrero (Los Guerreros, 2002 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith (The British Bulldogs, 1985 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> Chris Harris & James Storm (America's Most Wanted, 2005 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> Homicide & Hernandez (Latin American Exchange, 2006 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> John Morrison & the Miz (2008 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards (The American Wolves, 2009 WON Tag Team of the Year)</p><p> </p><p> Good:</p><p> Bill Eadie & Barry Darsow (Demolition)</p><p> Stan Lane & Steve Keirn (The Fabulous Ones)</p><p> John Tenta & Fred Ottman (The Natural Disasters)</p><p> Brian Armstrong & Kip James (The New Age Outlaws)</p><p> Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin (World's Greatest Tag Team)</p><p> Kevin Steen & El Generico</p><p> Kofi Kingston & Ettore Ewen (New Day)</p><p> Jonathon Fatu & Joshua Fatu (The Usos)</p><p> Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson (Rock 'n Roll Express)</p><p> Matt Hardy & Jeff Hardy (The Hardy Boyz)</p><p> Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart (The Hart Foundation)</p><p> Devon Hughes & Mark LoMonaco (The Dudley Boys)</p><p> Michael Hayes & Terry Gordy (The Fabulous Freebirds)</p>
  11. Thank you so much for doing this! My favorite mod time period. *Edit: Skimmed through the WCW roster and had some attribute thoughts: Arn Anderson - Bad Ass Reputation, Future Road Agent, Giving Performer, Loves The Business, Passes On Knowledge, Professional Barry Windham - Itchy Feet (always bouncing around) Bobby Eaton - Desperado, Easy To Do Business With, Giving Performer, Loyal, Passes On Knowledge, People Person, Poor Comedy Matches, Positive Outlook, Tag Team Specialist (usually described as one of the favorites of everyone in the locker room) Brad Armstrong - Future Road Agent, Loyal, Unmarketable Brian Pillman - High Pain Threshold, Stud Athlete (NFL, kept wrestling with his destroyed ankle) Buddy Lee Parker - Natural Trainer (gets a lot of credit for the WCW Power Plant) Dan Spivey - Modelling Experience, Ahead Of Their Time (... really just thinking how ahead of its time Waylon Mercy was) Diamond Dallas Page - Age Is Just A Number, Ahead Of Their Time, Driven, Fitness Fanatic, Healing Factor, Loyal, Natural Trainer (... he's DDP) Dustin Rhodes - Wrestling In The Blood, Driven, Loves The Business, Prodigy, Creative (still going, everything with Goldust) Dusty Rhodes - Fat Genes (poor Dusty) El Gigante - Not A Natural (... yeah) Grizzy Smith - Scumbag (known pedophile and garbage human being) Harley Race - Natural Trainer (Harley Race's Wrestling Academy) Jim Herd - Outside Interests, Money Motivated, Troublemaker (Pizza Hut and everything he did ever) Jim Ross - Fat Genes, Loves The Business, Loyal, Story Teller, Wrestling In The Blood Jimmy Garvin - Outside Interests (airline pilot) Jody Hamilton - Natural Trainer, Unable To Wrestle Again (broke his back) Junkyard Dog - Fat Genes, Easily Marketable, Relaxed (Junkfood Dog) Kevin Nash - Movie Star, Notorious Ribber (played Shredder in TMNT2 in March 91) Kevin Sullivan - Creative (gimmicks and booking) Magnum TA - Unable To Wrestle Again (poor Magnum) Michael Hayes - Future Personality, Story Teller, Party Animal ("Driven" seems like a bad personality for the lead Freebird) Mike Rotundo - Future Road Agent, Wrestling In The Blood (currently a furloughed road agent for WWE) Mike Shaw - Fat Genes (... umm) Missy Hyatt - No Pregnancies (never had any kids despite her well publicized behavior) Ole Anderson - Born Fighter, Extremely Old School, Money Motivated, Outside Interests (owned a lumber yard) Paul Heyman - High Strung, Intense, Passes On Knowledge, Loves The Business (high strung seems like the best personality for, always about to sue you) Ric Flair - Deep Roots, Dynamo, Giving Performer, Horndog (never leaving Charlotte, always made everyone look great) Rick Steiner - Born Fighter, Stud Athlete, Tag Team Specialist Ricky Morton - Age Is Just A Number, Giving Performer, Horndog, Tag Team Specialist, Wrestling In The Blood (still wrestling, famous for sleeping with fans) Robert Gibson - Age Is Just A Number, Horndog, Tag Team Specialist, Wrestling In The Blood (still wrestling, famous for sleeping with fans) Ron Simmons - Bad Ass Reputation, Stud Athlete (NFL) Scott Armstrong - Future Road Agent (currently furloughed by WWE) Scott Steiner - Born Fighter, Bodybuilder, Stud Athlete, Wrestling In The Blood Sid Vicious - Easily Marketable, Has A Temper, Intense (that whole scissor thing) Steve Disalvo - Money Motivated (from his time in Canada) Sting - A Marketing Dream, Age Is Just A Number, Creative, Loyal, Wrestling In The Blood (WCW's second most marketable name, rumors of him wrestling in AEW now) Terry Taylor - Future Personality, Future Road Agent (still working in WWE as a producer) Tim Horner - Grifter (the stuff with Smokey Mountain) Tom Zenk - Bodybuilder, Egomaniac, Money Motivated (everything I've heard about him) Tony Schiavone - Wrestling In The Blood (I feel like Schiavone's always had a bad rap in these mods and his modern resurgence should be taken into account with his personality more. He's not really a troublemaker. Maybe Needy? In reality, he was just kind of a suckup, not a jerk.) Tracy Smothers - Wrestling In The Blood (at least 15 matches in 2019!) Vader - Wrestling In The Blood (wrestled up until his death) I can skim over WWF's tomorrow if that's helpful. Also, as a small note, I'd say that the Four Horsemen has to involve Arn Anderson, not Ric Flair. They were both always there, but I'd say Arn was *the* Horseman, which seems to be the common theme even to today, where it's Arn that owns the Horsemen name, and I'm willing to bet he brings the Horsemen back in AEW in the near future. Flair was the bigger name, but the Horsemen are Arn's.
  12. Well I’ll definitely be pushing Mabel, the Chocolate Mastodon, in 2020.
  13. Same. The picture URL issue is awful and it’s why I’m always a guest here, since reading diaries while logged in is hopeless. I’m also having a lot of issues with my mobile device stretching the window to an unreadable width that I didn’t have before. Sometimes I can refresh and it goes back to normal, but not always. I’ve only been logged out after five minutes if I forget to hit the “remember me” checkbox, though.
  14. WCW Clash Of The Champions XXVII Sting © vs. Owen Hart – WCW World Title Barry Windham vs. Scott Steiner – Streetfight Shawn Michaels vs. Steve Austin © – WCW United States Title Arn Anderson and The Thrillseekers vs. Big Van Vader and The Malenkos Michael Hayes © vs. ??? – WCW Television Title Ricky Steamboat © vs. Terence Taylor – NWA World Title Sid Vicious and Marcus Bagwell vs. The Stocks And Shares Express © – NWA World Tag Team Titles Man I'm sad this is ending. This diary inspired me through my own 1991 WCW game, and I've just passed where you are here. Most of my main stories were pretty close to yours, but it's fun seeing where things diverged. My WWF has been far more competent: Mr. Perfect won the WWF World title at the beginning of October 1991, and he's heading into Wrestlemania IX 7-0-1 against Hogan, yet roughly as popular as Cactus Jack. I axed the pre-alliance notes for the NWA and protected the alliance more: the WCW & NWA titles still haven't diverged, and now it's just WCW, CMLL, AJPW, and NJPW, with a NWA-focused story about to start, roughly coinciding with the return of the NWA World title stuff in WCW in '93.
  15. I've been reading this diary for the last month plus to catch up. I had no idea if it was still running and was scared to look -- it made me so happy to see that it was, and not just that, I almost perfectly caught up with the biggest show yet. This is the first diary I've ever read in this detail and you've won me over -- I loved this. And now, after all this time, I can finally ask my burning question -- Do you actually give cash bonuses to the TV champs in game, or is it all kayfabed? And my first vote is for the Horsemen! I think Jericho and Storm easily make the most sense -- they're basically the younger version of Flair and Arn themselves. It could be fun seeing Flair naturally drawn more to mentoring the brash and cocky Jericho, while Arn is drawn to the serious wrestling machine Storm. I'm only scared that they seemed to be splitting before this -- don't make me believe and then give me Curt Hennig's Horsemen run with a quick Jericho heel turn. Past them, my vote would be from Jerry Lynn, Mike Awesome, and Sean Morely. They could all be fun but I think Jericho and Storm are too obvious and perfect not to go with.
