What am I doing wrong?” Me: “Well, the old school product is good, very good if I may add, but the accommodation and all is old school as well. Come on dude, have you ever heard of the internet? It’s fairly easy to get your product to the fans these days you know. Without it even costing much.” The Stomper: “Good point, but is that really going to make the difference.” Me: “Nope” The Stomper: “Explain please…” Me: “Well, there’s all these small things you see. First of all, all your matches are way too long. There is no one, except one maybe but we’ll get back to that later, that can be in a ring for longer than 10 minutes. Well ok, maybe 12 if they’re having a good day. And you or whoever is booking this fed now makes matches last more than 25 minutes. I’m surprised no one died of exhaustion here yet. Then about the one guy that can go in there for longer than 10 minutes, heck he can be in there longer than half an hour is Steve Flash. He’s the best guy you have and you put him in midcard matches against fatsos and masked sloppy brawlers. If you push him to your main event, your shows will definitely improve!” The Stomper: “You really know a lot about us, it seems.” Me: “Yea duh! My dad dragged me in here every month since I was a kid.” The Stomper: “That doesn’t seem so long ago… how old are you son?” Me: “Eighteen…” The Stomper: “Consider yourself hired. Your first task is booking NYCW Rush Hour, seven days away from now…” Me: “Wah!?”
Sunday - Week 1 - January - 2007
Main Eventers: Whistler Whistler is a man who is very proud of his country and the people in his country. He is honest, hard working and has lots of dignity. He comes up for the people that were treated unfairly and he can’t stand corruption. This attitude has proven to be successful as he is one of the most decorated men in NYCW. He is the man that is currently challenging Grandmaster Phunk for the Empire Title as he wants to break American Buffalo’s record of winning the Empire Title three times. He has spent the last 10 years of his career in SWF, but decided to come to NYCW. He is a three time SWF North American Champion, which is a record he shares with his former tag team partner Enforcer Roberts. It’s not because he’s in NYCW that he is going to let things go. On the contrary, he’s training even more than before. It is clear that he is one of the top contenders for the NYCW Empire Title. He used that name in SWF while he was managing all kinds of bad guys. He wanted more in-ring time however and came to us, NYCW. In NYCW he proved himself to be more than a decent wrestler. He isn’t as big as most of the guys here, but he sure isn’t less tough. He is the current NYCW Empire Champion. Had he been born 20 years earlier, he would’ve been a big star in one of the biggest promotion. He is a real student of old school. NYCW spotted him on a local independent show in 2005 and he was immediately hired. Since then, he is mostly known for teaming up with Whistler as American Made Men. He was previously known as Mister America. He was one of the leading men of the now extinct promotion Xtreme Federation of Wrestling. After XFW closed, he’s been with some small promotions and at the moment he wrestles for NYCW. He’s not as big as most of the guys, but his technique makes up for that. He is most known from his days in the Ace Express, with Johnny Martin. They were tipped as the next big thing in tag team wrestling, but they never really fulfilled that. He has captured the SCCW Tag Team Titles twice, so it would be fair to say that he’s a tag team wrestler. Here in NYCW however, he’s going for success by himself, without anyone with he has to share the spotlight with. Can he succeed as a singles competitor? Kayfabe enthusiasts will certainly know he was the tag team partner of Black Hat Bailey in the early 90’s. They wrestled mainly in the Texan territory. He was known there as Black Hat Richards. His wrestling career has taken him to many promotions, ranging from CGC to SWF, but now he is one of our NYCW regulars. He used to tag with The Big Problem, but when Problem was let go by us, Land Mass started making the singles leagues unsafe. Currently he’s targeting Steve Flash’s Tri-State Title. His career has taken him to many places, but he never stayed with a promotion long enough to make a real impact. Late 2006 however, at the age of 49, Lee realized he didn’t win any titles in his home country, America. Thus he came to NYCW to make his career complete and go for gold in the US. Nice simple backstory and I like your platform for success. I have a bit of a soft spot for NYCW, as that was the very first promotion I succeeded as way back when TEW '04 came out, yet I've never been able to create that success again. Hopefully you can. I'll be reading.:)

The New York Doll had more desire to win and his moves were a notch faster than Sammy’s. At some point in the match he seemed to have hurt himself however. The injury was pretty serious as they quickly got to the finish after that. Doll nailed Sammy down with a Suplex and then did his flying elbow. Winner: The New York Doll Time: 9:41 Rating: E+
Rock: “Nice match to start things with.” Herb: “The wrong man won in my opinion, Rock.” Rock: “Let’s not get into one of these discussions again. Today is the day that black man who thinks he owns the place is finally going down! He’ll fall victim to the Jackhammer. I shall be the one who shuts that a-hole’s mouth forever.” Rating: D+ Rock: “Strong words by the machine! He’s already geared up for his match tonight.” Herb: “That’s right. But let’s move on to the next match!”

The Masked Mauler didn’t look that bad in the ring. He dominated the start of the match with some hard punches and other stiff moves. Flash managed to counter with a submission move and quickly got in control of the match. He used his usual mix of brawling, high flying and technical wrestling to please the crowd and to tear down his opponent. He ended it nicely with a Flash Bang. Winner: Steve Flash Time: 11:32 Rating: D+
After the match while Steve Flash is leaving the ring, Land Mass and Honest Frank, who’s match is up next, attack Steve Flash. By the time Land Mass got to the ring Honest Frank had already taken Flash down. Land Mass picks up Flash’s title and holds it above his head. He’s making a statement here. Rating: E+ Herb: “Wow! Looks like Mass wants a piece of Flash!” Rock: “His hunger sure seems to be big!” Herb: “Always making fun of fat people, huh?” Rock: “…”

Still a decent slow paced brawl. The crowd wasn’t totally bored. The end came when Wiley Coyote were tuning up for a Spinebuster followed by a Steinway Highway as two men jumped out of the crowd and attacked the tag team champions! The referee rings the bell and thus Wiley Coyote win the match by disqualification. Winners: Wiley Coyote by DQ Time: 9:34 Rating: E+
After the match the attack goes on. They are totally destroying the champions. As Honest Frank and Land Mass are wisely crawling to the back The New York Doll and Rick Sanders run in to help the tag team champions, but they got thrown out of the ring as fast as they got in. Herb Stately leaves the announcing table and enter the ring. Rating: E Herb Stately: “I told you tonight was going to be full of surprises. These are my boys, the most dominating tag team from the South, The Tennessee Outlaws! They have been in the dark too long. After Rick Sanders being beaten down already the end of the match was a bit too obvious. Lee Wright was in control most of the time, but Sanders had his moments too. He was really up for his game and it looked good for him. He was in control of the whole match, but Phunk refused to tap out or stay down. The champ didn’t look weak either, but you could surely say the match was even. It ended in a typical Phunk way as he won after hitting a low blow on Machine. The ref didn’t see it and thus he won the match. The injury is pretty serious. He has what they call a spinal disalignment and is expected to be out for 8 to 10 weeks. This has consequences for our next event as Rick Sanders will have to find a new tag team partner in the coming week to help him defeat the Tennessee Outlaws. - Roger Dodger recently signed a pay per appearance deal with RIPW. He’s been hired to train some of the younger guys. Especially when it comes to giving interviews and all. He already made his debut there and it was successful. He beat a big young man named Atlas. - You have seen the Tennessee Outlaws beat the crap out of our tag team champions. But who are the they really and what have they accomplished? Here are their profiles: ------------ Blackjack Robbins Blackjack Robbins is a southern indie tag team legend. Having capture the SCCW Tag Team Championship three times and the SCCW Championship once, he was a major player in that company. He’s part of the hard hitting, hard to pin tag team, The Tennessee Outlaws. They were managed by Herb Stately who has been on announcing duties here in NYCW. Now the Outlaws came to NYCW, attacking our tag team champions, making clear what they want. He is 10 years younger than his partner and thus has a great part of his career ahead of him. That’s also the reason why it’s him and not his partner who has won the SCCW Championship. The Tennessee Outlaws have been wrestling some local shows the last three or four years. Now they’re back at one of the dedicated promotions and they have set their sights on the tag team gold. The national Puerto Rican hero finally has a chance to prove what he’s really made of by getting to fight in a big league. - SWF added another name to their roster. Young USPW wrestler Darryl Devine has signed a contract with them. We at NYCW think he has a small chance of succeeding as he is talented and young. It could of course be that he’s just another talented jobber for them who never really gets a chance to prove himself. Time will tell. - TCW hasn’t been sitting still either. They have signed up American Elemental, a young exciting high flier and Corporal Doom. Doom is known all over the country for the things he has accomplished in the past. Rock: Welcome to NYCW’s Downtown Brawl! Tonight’s match-ups are pretty interesting, ain’t that right Herb?” Herb: “Very true! I’m already looking forward to seeing the Tennessee Outlaws beat the crap out of Rick Sanders and whoever wishes to help him!” Rock: “And what about the main event, two icons of wrestling, Black Hat Bailey and Whistler, take on each other with a big prize on the line. The winner gets a shot at the NYCW Empire Title next month!” Herb: “Let’s not waste too much time talking, shall we? It’s time for the first match of the evening, Honest Frank against Roger Dodger. We know these two can talk like none other, but can they wrestle?”
Honest Frank vs. Roger Dodger A pretty bad opener considering what both men’s asking prices are. Honest Frank, the more decorated and respected man of the two won the match with a Touch of Truth. Winner: Honest Frank Time: 6:56 Rating: E
Rock: “The tag team match is up next, Herb has left his announcing position and is now in the back pumping up his guys for their match. Roger Dodger, the man who just fell victim to the Touch of Truth will be replacing him for the next few minutes. Roger, what happened?” Roger: “What do you mean what happened? I lost the match, yes. But that happened for a reason. You know, the ladies like it more when you’re in a totally lost position and do something that surprises the world. That’s why I lost. I lost so everyone thinks I’m crap and then when it really matters BANG! The Dodger will surprise everyone. Another reason is that there are no ladies that watch NYCW. These old bastards in the crowd are no reason to win a match for. They should bring their daughters.” Rock: “That was one big pile of nonsense. Anyway… let’s see who Rick Sanders has found to team with him.” Rating: D- Rick Sanders music hits and Sanders comes out. Rick: “The question is, have I found somebody to team up with me against the Tennessee Outlaws? I sure did! Ladies and gentlemen, be quiet please and let his theme music do the work…” Loud music bursts through the sound system. Rock: “Oh my god! Who could’ve thought this? It’s none other than the boss himself, The Stomper.” Roger Dodger: “So, that’s why Sanders gets to be in that many high profile matches, he’s friends with the boss.” Rock: “Shut up and watch the show. This match was quite even but the Outlaws looked pretty strong. Sanders was probably as strong as they are, but you can see Stomper’s age is starting to make it difficult for him. The Tennessee Outlaws won when Blackjack Robbins pinned The Stomper after using the Leaping Side Suplex on him. Winner: The Tennessee Outlaws Time: 9:30 Rating: E+
After the match we see The Tennessee Outlaws continue their assault on Sanders and The Stomper. But suddenly the tag team champions come out and the Tennessee Outlaws manage to escape the ring and flee through the crowd. Rating: E

Modern fans would probably find these matches worse than Big Smack Scott Matches but hey, that’s not who we’re doing it for. Bailey used his well know technical wrestling style against the tougher guy, Whistler. The match was really even and the small things made the difference in this one. Whistler won with a Rebel Yell and gets to face Grandmaster Phunk next month. Winner: Whistler Time: 12 Rating: D+ Whistler: “Grandmaster Phunk! Wright shows that he’s capable of carrying someone (a lot) worse than him to a good match, kudos to him. Also congratulations to Land Mass for being able to keep up with him. Land Mass got caught by Lee Wright’s Wright Stuff and got pinned. Winner: Lee Wright Time: 7:54 Rating: D
Rock: “What a match to kick things off with! Anyway, I conducted an interview with The Stomper before tonight’s show. But now, I feel that I can’t live up to my own expectations anymore, and I don’t want to be remembered as that old douchebag that can’t wrestle anymore, but still does. Who would be willing to pay for an old man that does some punches, hits a giant legdrop and poses a bit, no one, right?” Rock: “Some people will, but anyway … did you do anything special for tonight’s match?” Stomper: “I did the same I always do Rock, go to the gym and work out. That’s something I’ll keep doing after I quit too I think. You know, no need to perform in that sport.” Rock: “Is there a possibility you’ll ever come back from retirement?” Stomper: “Never say never, but I don’t think I’ll ever be wrestling full time again. But the moment you least expect it, the Stomper could be there for one more match!” Rock: “What will you be doing after you retire?” Stomper: “I’ll still be here at NYCW. I’m the one that owns this place, you know. You better be nice to me, haha. And running a promotion is a full time job, I can tell you. For you it’s just one day work a month, your job’s finished tonight. Tomorrow I’ll be at my desk making next month’s show possible.” Rock: “Will you win tonight’s match?” Stomper: “I will do everything that’s necessary to get that pinfall, but let’s stay realistic. It also had an extra emotional value with the crowd which added to the match quality as well. This match could’ve gone either way. The end came when Stomper got caught in the Bailey Breaker. After a long, painful struggle he managed to get to the ropes and crawl back to his feet. He hit a DDT on Bailey and somehow with the last energy within his battered up body he managed to hit one last Bronx Elbow Drop. Both men are down on the floor and the referee starts counting. By the time he reached 5 both men show signs of life. They try to get back to their feet; but they’re both too late and thus the match ends with a double knock out. Winner: Draw Time: 8:49 Rating: D-
After the bell rang both men get to their feet and look each other in the eye with respect for one another. They shake hands and Bailey raises The Stomper’s hand. He kneels before The Stomper and leaves the ring. Stomper thanks the crowd by bowing down for them all. You can see he’s having a hard time not to cry. As he leaves to the backstage area, just before walking through the curtain Black Hat Bailey comes out and takes Stomper out with a running clothesline. He then locks in the Bailey Breaker until Stomper passes out. The crowd boo him for this action. Rating: D- Rock: “What a match by these two technicians. If Stomper can still do that at this age I wonder why he stops. Bailey really lived up to his reputation with that cheap shot after the match.” Herb: “That was a match full of emotions. It was better than all other matches and thus was worthy of that spot. The action went back and forth and no one stood out as being better. The result confirms that statement as the match ended with a double count out. Whistler and Phunk both fell to the ringside area when Whistler hit a hard running clothesline. The referee starts counting and both men prevent each other from getting back in the ring. The referee hits ten and the bell rang. This means Phunk retains his title. Both men didn’t take notice of the bell and just kept brawling until the referee broke them up. Winner: Draw Time: 10:31 Rating: C-
