NWA Faces Off With WWF
NWA DECLARES WAR ON WWF! This is the headline on all the dirt rags and everyone's lips who even remotely follows the sport of professional wrestling. The NWA has come out with their Board of Directors and officially declared war on the World Wrestling Federation. The World Wrestling Federation officially ceased being a part of the National Wrestling Alliance in 1963. Now, 20 years later, the NWA is putting it's foot down and saying no more. It is time to prove that the National Wrestling Alliance has no competition as the top spot. It is time to prove that the NWA has the best wrestling, the best athletes, the best shows on the market. Welcome to the NWA.

Monday April 1983 Jim Crockett, Jr. sat his desk looking over some paperwork and rubbing his forehead. Vince McMahon, Jr. is nothing like his father. His father honored the things which we as the NWA have fought for. His father would fight us with honor and not the way Vince McMahon, Jr. fights. Jim shook his head and looked back over some paperwork. What a day, what a day. It's time for the NWA to take that stand and take back what Vince McMahon tried to take away from us. Vince might be ruthless but when it comes down to it the NWA is just better. We have Ric Flair, Wahoo McDaniel, Ivan Koloff, The Funks, Ricky Steamboat and Jay Youngblood, Greg Valentine, Dusty Rhodes, the list is endless of talent here just within the Mid-Atlantic territory. But it's time to get back to business. It's time to work some things out and get prepared. It's time to beat Vince McMahon. Jim Crockett: "Hello, Eric, get me the following list of wrestlers on the phone..."
...
If this is anything like your last one, this is going to be awesome!
Thanks for checking in and reading. I am planning on putting more of a behind-the-scenes storyline to this one rather than just the cards. We'll see how it goes. Keep on posting your thoughts and all. I'm always glad to read them.

Tuesday Week 1 April 1983
Again we find Jim Crockett sitting behind his desk looking at several pieces of paper. Jim Crockett, Jr: "Eric, get in here and write this down for me!" The young man who found himself lucky enough to make Jim Crockett's assistant stepped into the room and prepared to write. Jim Crockett, Jr.: "We have 35 months and 3 weeks from today to make the national scene. In order to do that, we cannot fall from the eye of the public because if we do there's no way that we'll be able to make up the ground. As for wrestlers, we are the NWA. We can only have the best athletes that money can buy here. Did you get all that?" Eric Baker: "Yes sir." Jim Crockett, Jr.: "Very good. Now leave that in here with me and none of our conversations go any further than us but you already know that. Now, leave." Eric nodded and scurried out of the room while Jim looked at the paper. It's a lofty goal, one that might not sit well with the National Wrestling Alliance itself but it would be the only way to compete with Vince McMahon. Vince is going national soon or at least he is going to try. That means that someone has to be ready to compete with him at all costs. That promotion will be Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling.

Jim looked over a few more papers and eyed one in particular. He shook his head as he held it with just two fingertips in disgust. A man he considered to be his friend, a man who he considered to be a staunch NWA supporter has met with officials from the World Wrestling Federation. Roddy freaking Piper is heading to the other side it would seem. He's betting that Vince McMahon will make it to national first. He's going to lose that bet and now he's burned some bridges that he may never be able to repair.

In the United States, there are the big 4 promotions. The 4 promotions that would seemingly be within the race for national. There is, of course, Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Federation, Jim Crockett Jr.'s Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling, Jim Barnett's Georgia Championship Wrestling and Verne Gagne's American Wrestling Association. 2 out of 4 reside within the NWA boundaries. The AWA has not yet been declared war on by the National Wrestling Alliance but the WWF has. So the true race for power will be between Jim Crockett, Jr. and Jim Barnett. Crockett has the advantage because he has the NWA World Heavyweight Champion in his pocket. Anyone wishing to get a shot at the belt has to go through him first.

One final note for the day, Tully Blanchard immediately rejected our advances on him as he wishes to continue working for his father solely down in South West Championship Wrestling. We wish him well in that endeavor and hold nothing but respect for him and his father and look forward to doing some future business with them.
Wednesday Week 1 April 1983
Jim Crockett can be found within the arena, looking over some finalized papers for a working agreement with Southwest Championship Wrestling. As stated the other day, Jim Crockett has nothing but the utmost respect for Joe Blanchard and his organization. And he looks forward to working with and alongside them to beat back the threat that is Vince McMahon.

We would like to recognize Kevin Sullivan for his Florida Heavyweight Title victory last night over Scott McGhee. Don Kent and Adrian Street also won the Television and Bahamas title respectively on those shows beating Leroy Brown and Rufus R. Jones for the belts.

So far, Roddy Piper is keeping his involvement with the World Wrestling Federation a secret. Jim shakes his head as he thinks on that. If Piper would have manned up and said he's working out a deal with the WWF and leaving Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling it would have been one thing. But for him to keep things as quiet as he has really puts a damper on his legacy here in the NWA.

The preview for the first show within the month of April will be up soon for predictions.
He's not even in my league, pal. Whooo. Is it Terry Funk? Dory Funk, Jr? One of the Briscos? Who could it be? The Dream has seen the highs and he's seen the lows, daddy, but the fact of the matter is that the Dream is like each and every one of you. He's the son of a plumber. Make no mistake about it I've seen hardships. Not everything has come the Dream's way but I've persevered and I'm gonna continue to do so. I'm gonna work hard and earn another shot at Ric Flair's gold belt. Thursday Week 1 April 1983
Jim Crockett is sitting back at his desk within his office reviewing certain things. He smiles as he sees the review from last night's Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. It drew a lot of praise. That's a good thing. Makes him almost glad he's not burying Piper. Or maybe Piper hasn't signed a contract yet. He can't really say for sure. The WWF held their show in the Niagra Convention Center. He glanced over the matches and winners/losers: Andre The Giant defeating Big John Studd in a C- affair Bob Backlund defeating Ray Stevens to successfully defend his WWF World Heavyweight Title in a C affair. Those two matches stuck out for him for whatever reason. He made calls to both Andre and John about possible employment and still hasn't heard back from them. Who knows, maybe they'll move from the WWF to the winning side.
Friday Week 1 April 1983
Major rejections and major signings is the story of this day. He received several phone calls from major superstars who wished to remain within their home promotion and not come on the ride with MACW. These included Ole Anderson, Andre the Giant, Big John Studd and David Von Erich. It's too bad. These men could have helped turn the tide in the favor of Mid-Atlantic. But on the flip side there are some positives to build on. The Enforcer Arn Anderson, Buddy Jack Roberts, Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy and Tommy Lane all signed with the promotion. Buddy and Terry will be reprising their role within the Freebirds and Tommy Lane will be teaming with Mike Davis as the Rock and Roll RPMs. So not all is lost within Mid-Atlantic. We just keep on trucking along.
Saturday Week 1 April 1983
Another day and more rejections come in. It can be a little disheartening sometimes to see these rejections but not everybody wants to rise to the top. Davey Boy Smith and Kerry Von Erich are the latest to claim to want to stay within their home promotions. Oh well, it's their loss, right?

The television rating came in for Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling late this evening/early Sunday morning. A .84 with shares of .79 for the first half hour and .88 for the second, meaning that the appearance of Roddy Piper definitely made fans tune in for the rest of the show and then some. Too bad he'll probably turn traitor.
Sunday Week 1 April 1983
Two more rejections here. One of them is the Dynamite Kid which isn't surprising after Davey Boy Smith declined to come here. They both have admirably loyalty to their home promotion of Calgary Stampede Wrestling but it won't get them anywhere in the long run. The other rejection comes at the hands of the World Wrestling Federation as they snuck in and plucked Michael "Purely ****" Hayes out from the National Wrestling Alliance. I don't know how Fritz can keep that traitor AND let him work for the enemy. It will definitely have to be discussed within the NWA just what to do with him. Oh and I learned on Saturday that the WWF plucked Jesse Ventura from the AWA. Not a HUGE loss but still a good name. Oh well it's not like he'll ever be governor or anything.

A meeting has been set up with Verne Gagne tomorrow. I hope it goes smoothly. Basically I want to remove the non-aggression agreement and make it more of a working agreement so that we can use each other's talent pool. I wouldn't be surprised if Verne took it badly though all things considered. It seems that some of the other companies are getting a little wary of me. Well, they should be scared. I hold the very power of the National Wrestling Alliance in my hand.
Monday Week 2 April 1983
Some major news stories leaking out this evening include the fact that Roddy Piper finally came clean with me. He walked into my office and told me that he felt he needed to go in another direction and decided to sign with the WWF. I told him that I knew about it and tried to let him know that it is a mistake but he couldn't be swayed. Some people never learn.

The World Wrestling Federation also plucked a young upstart from the American Wrestling Association by the name of Hulk Hogan. Personally, I don't think he has the talent to make it in this business. He's not a pure athlete. But Vince thinks he can make a superstar out of this guy. Good luck, Vince, you're gonna need it.

The meeting with Verne didn't go as bad as I thought. Right now he really needs the help with all of his superstars being taken by Vince. He could use the starpower that the NWA and Mid-Atlantic specifically can bring to him. The deal is on the table for a working agreement with Verne. All he has to do is sign it.

This also means that I can feel free to sign superstars from the AWA that I wasn't able to sign before. It's time to make a few phone calls.
Tuesday Week 2 April 1983
Verne was quick to get that working agreement signed and send it on my desk. He's a little smarter than some people give him credit for. Not that it matters. He stepped away from the NWA. He doesn't have their support so he will fall like everyone else eventually.

One more snubbing occured today when Ted DiBiase made 3 calls: one to myself, one to Verne and one to Vince. He decided to remain right where he is in Mid-South Wrestling. Good for him. If that's where he wants to be then more power to him.
Tough luck with all the snubbing.... Dibiase would've been a GREAT signing... I always tried to get him when I played DOTT... Same can be said for The British Bulldogs and they always stayed loyal to Calgary... Also sucks that you didn't get Michael Hayes... Screw Verne Gagne, just sign all his talent away... His roster cannot compare with yours... Meanwhile guys I'd like to see you get: Keep trying for Dibiase Orndorff Arn & Ole obviously Windham would be great, but he's always pretty loyal to Florida Brusier Brody !!! I like the on-going backstage politics

He usually gets signed up by the WWF pretty quickly. Arn is already signed this week and Ole has remained loyal to GCW on a bad break for me. I'm on the fence with Barry Windham. He could have been great if given the opportunity and he is after all a former Horsemen in real life. I am thinking about releasing Jos LeDuc and, honestly, I don't know enough about Bruiser Brody to use him correctly. But keep those comments coming. I Love the feedback!

Thursday Week 2 April 1983
Looking back at the card, it was excellent. I have decided to keep things open with Roddy Piper in case he wishes to come back after he finds out exactly what things are like in the WWF. The reviews came in for MACW and they stated 'Feedback from viewers has been great. Drawn a lot of praise.'
Sunday Week 2 April 1983
It's been several days since my last report but nothing major has happened since then. I had to call Masanobu Fuchi into my office today and dismiss him since he doesn't really have a future here in MACW. I always hate to fire people but sometimes that's how it goes being a good leader and holding my vision for Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling to go national soon.

I received a few phone calls from wrestlers rejecting negotiations with Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. Curt Hennig and J.J. Dillon each wanted to stay with their respective promotions. I tried to explain to them that they could still work with those promotions but it was to no avail. They will come back to me again.
Monday Week 3 April 1983
Roddy Piper officially cleaned out his locker today. It wasn't a proud moment for myself or for him but it was something he felt was necessary. I am just waiting for him to come crawling back when the WWF loses the war with the NWA. Maybe I'll let him back in and maybe I won't. But he will come to me again.

I got another rejection. This one from Bruno Sammartino. Sammartino is more of a wrestler than the WWF seems to want right now but he's loyal to them and that's admirable but it's gonna sink him one day soon.
Tuesday Week 3 April 1983
Ricky Steamboat and Adrian Adonis have each signed contracts to work with the AWA. Adonis isn't on my roster right now but who knows what may happen in the future. Steamboat, though, is another story. He better tread carefully when working for another high-profile federation. That is all I have to say about that one.
Wednesday Week 3 April 1983
Another day, another card, right? But there's a lot of news to get to here tonight. The first major piece of news happened last evening at the AWA's end of month show. In a B- match, Ricky Steamboat defeated Nick Bockwinkel to win the AWA World Heavyweight Title! It was Steamboat's first match there in the AWA and he upsets Bockwinkel. Congratulations, Steamboat!

The King Harley Race has decided to take a vacation for 23 days. So he won't be available to wrestle for anyone. I hope Race enjoys his time off. He deserves it.

Card Preview is coming soon
