And a great opening match it was as Rick Harris took on Mr. Wonderful. Orndorff pretty much dominated the match throughout, bringing down Harris and doing some pushups to cheers from the crowd. He set up Harris for the Piledriver and was attacked from behind by the Assassin! Referee Randy Anderson had no choice but to call the DQ. Paul Orndorff defeated Rick Harris in 3:44 when Rick Harris was disqualified when The Assassin ran in and attacked Paul Orndorff. Road Agent NOTES: Referee=Randy Anderson...Paul Orndorff and Rick Harris have great chemistry, and it showed in their performances. Paul Orndorff looked good out there. Rick Harris is improving in Performance skills...=B-

Bob Caudle: "Hello wrestling fans and welcome to Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. I'm Bob Caudle here along with David Crockett. As we've seen in the past few weeks, Bob Orton, Jr., Dick Slater and Ric Flair have all teamed together to take out Dusty Rhodes with Ric Flair being the mastermind of the situation. We found out last week that Dusty Rhodes is out injured but next week we should be getting more word from the American Dream. For right now though let's go back to a video replaying the events leading up so far." =B

A video begins to play, highlighting the betrayal of Bob Orton, Jr. on his friend Dusty Rhodes. =B

vs. Fleming has a strong amateur background and that could be seen within this match against Double A. Anderson, though, dominated for most of the match, playing occassionally to the crowd during it. He finished Fleming off with a Spinebuster. Arn Anderson defeated Mark Fleming in 5:31 by pinfall with a Spinebuster. Road Agent NOTES: Referee=Randy Anderson...Arn Anderson and Mark Fleming have pretty good chemistry, and it lifted the match. Whooo. Everyone here in Wilmington, North Carolina sat back and watched as Bob Orton, Jr. turned his back on Whooo the American Dream. And why did he do that? Because that is the way that Ric Flair said it had to be. In case you haven't figured it out, the NWA World Heavyweight Champion runs things on this show. And whether your name is Dusty Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat, Wahoo McDaniel, Ricky Morton, Robert Gibson, Paul Orndorff, the list goes on and on, it doesn't matter if your name is not Ric Flair. Whooo. What you are seeing in front of you is greatness personified. You are seeing the BEST technical wrestler to ever grace the squared circle and whether Dusty Rhodes likes it or not I am the dirtiest player in the game. Whooo." =B+

w/ vs. A definite match of two high-flying teams in this contest and the fans weren't too disappointed in it. The ones that didn't go to the concession stands that is. Kabuki and Dragon used Gary Hart as a distraction to keep the advantage on Ricky Morton throughout the bout until he finally made the tag to Robert Gibson and then the match got interesting. It was a donnybrook between the two teams that ended when Gary Hart got on the apron and miscued with the Great Kabuki, knocking heads with his own man. This left Magic Dragon alone for a double dropkick and a pin by Robert Gibson. The Rock and Roll Express defeated Great Kabuki & Magic Dragon in 6:58 when Robert Gibson defeated Magic Dragon by pinfall with a High Dropkick. Road Agent NOTES: Referee=Adrien Desbois...Gary Hart did some good work at ringside. What a poor debut it was as they were just not teaming in the league of the Freebirds. The match was rather short, not even going 2 minutes as Terry Gordy got the win on Rick Steiner with a powerbomb 1:37 in. The Freebirds defeated The Varsity Club in 1:37 when Terry Gordy defeated Rick Steiner by pinfall with a Powerbomb. Road Agent NOTES: Referee=Tommy Young...The announcing quality lifted the match. Now, there hasn't been a lot shown on the United States Heavyweight Champion Greg The Hammer Valentine. Why is that? Is everyone that afraid to face me? Wahoo must not be. He just beat a Russian in an Indian Strap match and now he thinks he's tough enough to stand in the ring with the Hammer? I don't think so. Wahoo I'm going to prove tonight that you don't deserve a shot at this strap. I'm gonna prove tonight that you will be yet again just another victim of the Hammer." =B

vs. Early on in this non-title match, Valentine nearly made his prediction come true as he rolled up Wahoo for a two count but Wahoo kicked out. The Hammer came out early and strong determined to prove he should have been getting airtime. However, the Native American was flooded by chants of 'U.S.A., U.S.A.' and began fighting back from a reverse chinlock put on him by the Hammer. He gave Valentine a few stiff elbow shots and then bounced off the ropes and brought the Hammer down with a stiff chop! Wahoo was not to be denied as he danced around the ring, bringing Valentine down at every turn. Then came the Indian Deathlock in the center of the ring and Valentine, like Ivan before him, had no choice but to submit! Wahoo McDaniel defeated Greg Valentine in 11:52 by submission with an Indian Deathlock. Road Agent NOTES: Referee=Stu Schwartz...The announcing job done by David Crockett was pretty weak. The Wahoo/Valentine storyline has been moved forward one stage with this match.
Good stuff. Really brings back the days of watching NWA on TBS in the mid 80's.
Thanks for the compliment. Am hoping to bring back visions of those days. Granted, I was only born in 1981, I can still remember when I was a lot younger watching the NWA/WCW on television.
WOOOOOOOOO! 5-0 right? Varsity Club -any thought of bringing in Sullivan and Kazmir?
Sullivan I've thought about off and on. Not sure who you mean by Kazmir? The other one I remember being from the Varsity Club was Dr. Death Steve Williams.

That is ridiculous." =C+ Steamboat stops speaking for a moment as Bob Orton Jr. and Dick Slater walk out from the back. Some words are spoken away from the microphone with Orton really getting into Steamboat's face, distracting him as Slater moves around behind him. Slater rams a knee into Steamboat's back while Orton moves out of the way with a smile. Steamboat fires back with chops on Slater but Orton clips his knee! Orton and Slater took turns stomping on the fallen chest of Steamboat. What a dastardly two on one attack by Orton and Slater! Bob Orton, Jr. moves around the podium set and comes back with a bucket? What's he got in there? Slater drops an elbow to keep Steamboat down and then turns him over and Bob Orton, Jr. paints a yellow stripe down Steamboat's back! How disgusting! Ricky Steamboat was speaking up for his friend and look at how he gets repaid! Bob Orton, Jr.: "Who's got the yellow streak now, Steamboat?" =C+

Ric Flair: "Orton and Slater taking care of business. Whooo. Just like the Nature Boy is going to do tonight against the WWF Champ. Slaughter, you've been here before. I've faced you before. We have Whooo walked that aisle. But tonight is different pal. Tonight, I am representing the National Wrestling Alliance and putting my belt on the line against you. Tonight, you can call me the real World's Champion. Whooo. And tonight you are gonna learn that to be the man, you've got to beat the man and when you hold this NWA World Heavyweight Title you are the man. Whooo." =A

vs. When both men made their way down to the ring, the crowd was split 50/50. Some of the fans wanted to see anyone take the NWA World Title away from Ric Flair but others didn't want to see a WWF guy do it. Flair started the match off slow with avoiding lockups and strutting along the ring, calling out 'Whooo.' Once Flair got Slaughter in the corner he landed a couple of knife-edge chops that Slaughter didn't sell at all! Slaughter turned Flair in the corner and pounded on him before hip-tossing him across the ring. Slaughter sneered down at Flair and saluted him mockingly. Again, the crowd was split down the middle. Flair came back and raked the eyes of Slaughter, beginning to take his advantage and turn his focus on the knee of the Sarge, chop-blocking it and then leaning it against the ropes and dropping his full body weight down on top of it. Flair went for the Figure 4 early but Slaughter reversed it into a small package! 1... ... ... 2... ... Kickout! The Nature Boy looked surprised but went back on the offensive with stomps on the Sarge. Flair locked in a reverse chinlock and senior official Tommy Young asked Slaughter if he gave up but Slaughter would do no such thing! Eventually, Slaughter fought to his feet and landed a couple of hard shots to the gut of Flair. Slaughter went bouncing off the ropes and floored the NWA Champ with a shoulderblock. Slaughter bounced off the ropes again and leaped over Flair before coming back from the opposite side and clotheslining the Nature Boy down to a good pop! Slaugher really started on the offensive there with some suplexes and a focus on the back of Flair. As everyone knows, the Nature Boy has had serious back issues since the plane crash in '77. Flair eventually rolled out of the ring for a breather but didn't get much of one as Slaughter followed him outside! Flair went running around the ring and then slid inside to get away from Slaughter. Slaughter followed him in and got caught with a stomp by Flair. The Nature Boy turned his focus back to the knee of Slaughter, doing a Flair strut when he had the full advantage. Flair actually picked up the Sarge and body slammed him! He bounced off the ropes and dropped a knee across Slaughter's forehead and seemed to be in full control. As the crowd slowly tried to get the Sarge to fight back, Flair pulled him to the middle of the ring and moved toward the top turnbuckle with a large smile on his face! But the crowd energized Slaughter and the Sarge caught him before he could leap off, slamming Flair off the top turnbuckle but grabbing that knee that Flair's been working on. Slaughter used the ropes to help hold himself up and limped toward Flair as the Nature Boy begged off. Slaughter wasn't buying it, though, and pounded on Flair in the corner. He whipped Flair across the ring and Flair flipped over the top turnbuckle and landed on the apron! He took a few steps across the apron and fell flat on his face, falling outside the ring! Slaughter stood in a corner as referee Tommy Young started counting the Nature Boy out. Flair got back in the ring at a 9 count and backed into the corner. Slaughter stalked him but got a poke in the eyes for his trouble and sent into the corner where Flair laid into him with chops! He lit up Slaughter's chest with those hard knife-edges and then kicked Slaughter's knee, dropping the Sarge hard! Flair grabbed Slaughter's legs quickly and dragged him to the center of the ring, looking down at the Sarge and giving a mock salute, releasing a 'Whooo' and then locked in the Figure 4 Leglock! He lifted up hard, putting all the pressure and all the weight on the Sarge's already hurting knee! The Sarge shook his head time and time again as he tried not to give up here. The crowd were on their feet outside the ring, watching as Sgt. Slaughter....finallly.... 'I quit! I quit!' gave up! Ric Flair has defeated the WWF Champ cleanly in the middle of the ring with the Figure 4 Leglock! What a way to end the show! Ric Flair defeated Sgt. Slaughter in 17:35 by submission with a Figure Four Leglock. Road Agent NOTES: Ric Flair makes defence number 6 of his NWA World Heavyweight title. Referee=Tommy Young...Ric Flair and Sgt. Slaughter have pretty good chemistry, and it lifted the match. The announcing job done by David Crockett was pretty weak. JYD's unorthodox style threw Flair for a bit of a loop to start the match as the Dog got on all 4's and chased Flair out of the ring! Once Flair got back inside the ring he began on the attack, chopping the chest of JYD and playing to the crowd only to turn around and take a headbutt from the Junkyard Dog! This caught Flair by surprise and JYD got a 2 count out of it! The momentum shifted back and forth during this match with Flair doing the obvious of going after the leg of the Dog while JYD used his unorthodox method of biting and brawling to his advantage. Flair nearly got the Figure 4 late in the match but JYD fought out of it and got the momentum of the crowd behind him, headbutting Flair ten times to a count by the crowd and calling for his Thump! Could we be seeing a new NWA Champ? JYD got Flair up but Flair quickly crawled down JYD's back and rolled out of the ring. He grabbed his title and took off to boos from the crowd!
