Billy Robinson vs UK Dragon If Dragon loses this he'll lose a lot of respect in the eyes of the fans, so Robinson will only win if it's time to move Dragon downa apeg which I don't think it is. ROF Talisman Title Don Henderson © vs Kevin Jones I'm really liking Kevin Jones and I think he should finally get a title. Matt Gauge vs Nigel Svensson Svensson is good but he's not on the same level as Gauge. ROF Tag Team Titles Warriors of Honour © vs High and Low High and Low just isn't a threat as a tag team. Adam Matravers vs JD Morgan Matravers is equal to Morgan in terms of talent but he needs awhile before he build up to Main Eventing. I want to see more of the Show Stealers anyway. ROF Championship Merle O’Curle © vs Rolling Johnny Stones One more stop on the Irish train of destruction.

ROF Combustion – March 2010 Billy Robinson vs UK Dragon - Everyone knows how badly I am at predictions but I think Robinson gets the rub as RoF tries to develop some new stars from within. Besides, UK Dragon might just fall asleep mid-match with his busy schedule. ROF Talisman Title Don Henderson © vs Kevin Jones - I want Jones to win to solidify himself as a 'real' RoF wrestler but there are still some dues to be paids and Henderson just got the Talisman title. Matt Gauge vs Nigel Svensson - Matt struggles without his brother a while longer. ROF Tag Team Titles Warriors of Honour © vs High and Low Again I'm likely wrong but this will be the slight upset as the 'Johnniy's get a chance for another run with the titles. (Otherwise I have all the champs retaining.) Adam Matravers vs JD Morgan - After breaking his goose egg recently, Matravers continues his upward rise and JD settles in the Upper Midcard. ROF Championship Merle O’Curle © vs Rolling Johnny Stones - I think there might be hope for RJS, but O'Curle still needs to show why when he gets a title it takes a Herculean effort to remove it from his waist. *** And since I disagreed with most of Apu's predictions I now feel confidently doomed about mine!
Marcel, how's K'Lee Hawkins doing? Has he been doing indy shows? Shown any growth at all? I think he'd be useful to bring in if you can find a partner for him, for the tag division.
K'Lee Hawkins. He's wrestling regularly on the independent shows but that's about it. Normally in one of the best couple of matches on the show (around the D mark). In all honesty he's someone I've thought about bringing back in to the tag division, as I don't think he's a strong enough singles wrestler to be a realistic challenger with the present roster. The problem is that he'd basically be used as you stated - I'd be trying out tag combinations with him on Short Fuse. And for an experiment, he's pretty expensive at around 950 per show. I do have one idea for him in a tag team, but I won't mention it here in case I do actually decide to use it! :D

Apparently the Martin twins requested the interview as there was something they wanted to discuss. JB: So, boys…what is it you want to get off your chest? KM: Last month in the dark match before Combustion, we lost a tag match to the new team of Injustice. LM: Injustice, that’s right. KM: The month before that we lost the dark match before Blaze of Glory to the new team of Can-Am SAS. LM: SAS, yeah. KM: In January I lost the dark match of the Ashes to Ashes event against Hugh de Aske. LM: Yeah, I remember that one. Ha-ha, how did you lose to him, bro? KM: And in December, you lost the dark match at Pyromania to Hugh de Aske, you dope. LM: Oh yeah. KM: And Lance…I was doing my maths. In the last 18 months, ROF has been putting on one of these special shows each month. That makes… LM: Hang on, bro. I can do this one. Erm…that makes 18 shows! KM: Yes. 18 special shows. And on how many of these special shows has either of us featured in the main card, Lance? LM: Oh, I can do that one too. It’s zero! KM: Exactly. There have been 4-way tag team matches and we weren’t involved. We didn’t even get on the King of the Ring show and nearly every wrestler in the UK was involved in that one. LM: Uh-huh. So what are you trying to say? KM: We need to do something about it. We’re a good team. We’re former tag champions here in ROF. And we’re better than we’ve shown over the past couple of years. We need a fresh start. LM: What…like move abroad? KM: No, you idiot. But we could give ourselves some kind of kickstart. We could have a name change, for example. Something to give us new motivation. LM: Oh, I don’t know, bro. I kind of like being called Lance. KM: Not your name, stupid. The tag team name. Absolutely Flawless has made us a laughing stock. Even you must have heard the chants of the fans when we wrestle – Absolutely Worthless, Absolutely Useless, Absolutely Clueless… LM: Absolutely Awesome! KM: No, that was Absolutely Awful. I just told you that at the time to make you feel better. Nobody takes us seriously, and I think it has rubbed off on us. We don’t take ourselves seriously anymore. We need a lift and a new attitude. LM: Ok, so what do you suggest? KM: Well, we need to come up with a new name. Any ideas? LM: Um…how about using your nickname, bro. We could call ourselves the Perfect Martin Twins! KM: And you don’t think people would chant PMT at us? LM: That sounds great. P - M - T, P - M - T! What’s PMT? KM: Never mind. Anything else in that weird mind of yours? LM: Erm…we could blend our nicknames and call ourselves The Perfect Bodies! KM: A bit better, I guess. But it sounds a bit…you know. LM: What? KM: A bit…you know. LM: I don’t know. KM: A bit effeminate. LM: I don’t know what that means, bro. Is it not a good thing? KM: Not for us. We want to keep the fans off our back for a while at least. We need something that says we’re reliable rather than flaky. Something that keeps our personas somewhat intact but which says we’re earnest, hard working and making an effort… LM: … KM: … LM: … KM: I’ve got it! Blue Chip Blondes. LM: Hey, I’m ‘The Body’. I’m not sure having Chips in our name goes with that image. KM: Not chips. Blue Chip stands for honest and reliable. And blondes because…well, even you can figure that one out, Lance. From now on, we’ll call ourselves the Blue Chip Blondes, and we’re going to be making serious waves in the tag division. JB: Is that decided then? KM: Oh, I forgot you were still here. LM: Is he a Blue Chip Blond too? KM: No, Lance.

I don't care about the rest of my (crappy) predictions. I picked Billy Robinson over UK Dragon when no one else did. Go me!
I found myself in a difficult position with Robinson - he's a 3-time Talisman champion and a 3-time tag champion. I want to keep him in singles competition, but with Henderson as Talisman champ I don't want to revisit that feud any longer. So Robinson was in a bit of limbo. Plus, he's currently the top candidate to move up to the main event from the midcard. Given Dragon's major fatigue and injury, I thought it was an ideal opportunity to put Robinson over a main eventer and see how he fared, but with there being an obvious reason for Dragon's defeat. I generally like to have about 30 on the roster, which includes 6 main eventers, who are constantly fighting over the ROF Championship. O'Curle, the 2 Morgans, Dragon and Stones are 5 main eventers right now, whilst the 6th spot is currently open - it's a question of whether I use Matravers there, move Samurai out of the tag ranks, or elevate Robinson or Henderson...or bring someone else in, but my choices are quite limited in terms of talent. So Robinson has a chance to stake his claim!
I was down on my predictions but I did call an A match for O'Curle vs Stones... I still don't get why Stones is so loved in ROF, he's put on great matches with basically everyone. He may even be able to wrestle The Tribe to a good match.
ooc... It's not so much that Stones is especially loved. But he does what is necessary at the top of the card. I think I've got the cards pretty much sussed in terms of heading them towards a grand conclusion. Although I don't run storylines, what I do is place the 5 or 6 major contenders for each title in unchained storylines. So for the ROF Championship it is currently the 2 Morgans, Dragon, O'Curle and Stones. So the storyline momentum and the fact he's at the end of a strongly built card are helping his ratings. Secondly, he's been in there with O'Curle and Dragon for his A matches. Now, O'Curle and Dragon have the highest skills on the roster, but at the same time they do have the odd weakness - namely in the selling department. Walter Morgan also has the odd performance stat weakness. Stones doesn't. So Dragon and O'Curle bring the goods in terms of wrestling skill, and Stones has the selling and psychology to make the match really good. JD Morgan is much the same - I can get an A from him as well. But because O'Curle and Dragon both lack in selling, they'll only deliver a B+ at best right now, despite both being highly skilled. The acid test for Stones will be if and when he gets given a run with the belt and main events the shows as the promotion focal point, can he deliver such strong main events with other guys than Dragon and O'Curle? That's a question that remains unanswered as yet.

I don't want to overdo any one match, to be honest. And I'm permanently concerned that the likes of Dragon might get injured, or JD might retire. And I don't want to do something like O'Curle/Stones to death in one go, because the day might come (due to the lack of talent available in the UK) when I have to rely almost solely on O'Curle & Stones at the top of the card. I'll certainly get you a best of 7 in somewhere though, even if it isn't that match!

I can't really justify putting two tag matches on my main shows as a matter of course - the ratings just won't be as great as singles matches. So the tag matches that are building momentum and win/loss records are happening either in the dark match of the main show (highlighted in Blackham's Blog in the newsletter) or on the Short Fuse shows like you said. So to judge who is looking good in the tag division and who might be worthy challengers, that's where you need to be looking.
Congrats on the PPV. Did you finally break cult?
Yep. And thanks. I've been sat on it for a couple of months actually, trying to build the bank balance up. In April I didn't run any shows in the North, because I was one show away from reaching the required percentage. Problem is, changing to running shows in the Midlands or even the US is not bringing in enough money to cover costs, so it was a futile exercise in the end. I just decided to go for it. I've now got to juggle the finances a bit. Although I've got a PPV deal, it's not going to be a money earner at first. But I should (hopefully) have enough funds set aside to cope with the sudden increase in costs that arise when you reach cult. The good news is that my prestige has risen above that of 21CW and UCR, who are both also Cult, as well as MOSC. So guys like Johnny Stones, Kevin Jones and my ref Humphrey Woolsey will give ROF preference now. I'm not brave enough to go for TV though. I can see that being a financial albatross in the UK, as 21CW are ably proving!

The only problem with TV is when you put eveyone on it as the ticket prices are lower for TV shows. It is fine at national when everyone is on a written and it doesn't matter how much you use them in a month. BUt when still on PPA you need to budget the workers more on the tv shows.
The only problem with TV is when you put eveyone on it as the ticket prices are lower for TV shows. It is fine at national when everyone is on a written and it doesn't matter how much you use them in a month. BUt when still on PPA you need to budget the workers more on the tv shows. The increase in area overness helps you get to National quicker though.
That's the difficulty - lower ticket prices would kill me right now. I only use 8 to 10 workers on the Short Fuse shows (often cheaper workers), and struggle to break even with those! I think I need to get at least to breaking even or small profits at cult with running PPVs, and then I'll have a rethink about adding television. The idea of getting to National with ROF is certainly appealing (I did it once in 2005, and then promptly gave up!).
You have the PPV deal you could pull a TNA and run short fuse as a weekly PPV. Might help with the overall budget.
I could do that, but I just feel it would be a little unrealistic for a small UK pure company, especially as I only really use the Short Fuse shows to give the lesser roster guys and people I want to develop some time in the ring. Anyway, we'll see. Just basking in the glory of being the most prestigious company in Europe for now! :D
