http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2969037
Suspended NFL cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones intends to try his hand at wrestling, but the Tennessee Titans have other ideas. The Titans on Friday filed a restraining order against Jones to prevent him from participating in a Total Nonstop Action Wrestling pay-per-view event this weekend. Jones appeared on Spike TV on Thursday night in a taped appearance to promote his Sunday night debut with the TNA event titled "Hard Justice." The event will take place at Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla.; it is uncelar whether Jones will wrestle during the telecast.
The story goes on but that's the jist of it. Don't know what to say. I'm not sure that this was a good thing for TNA to begin with, especially since it apeared as though they were going to book one of the worst guys in the NFL as a face. They got some pub out oof it. Maybe its for the best if he doesn't wrestle. As for Jones: hes an idiot. He's barely hanging on to his NFL career and he goes out of his way to do something that any idiot would know is going to piss off his employer? This cat is the poster boy for bad judgment. As for the Titans: just cut his ass already. How many chances do you give a guy?
As for the Titans: just cut his ass already. How many chances do you give a guy?
Not that easy, Peter and you know it. They cut him, his remaining salary is accelerated onto their cap as dead money. Dead money is baaaaaaaaaad. In addition to that, he's free to sign with any other team (including ones in their division) that wants to take a chance on him. An incentive laden contract would give any team not residing in Denver reason to look at him. (Not Denver because they already have two shutdown corners) This restraining order crap just killed their one possible out. According to the new CBA, if a player violates the terms of their contract, specifically the 'hazardous activity' clause (motorcycle riding falls under this, as Kellen Winslow Jr and Ben Roethlisberger learned) that comes standard in every NFL contract, the team can request the ability to release said player (usually by negotiating a settlement of the contract's remaining value) without the contract affecting their cap beyond the current season. This restraining order kills that for the Titans. If he had wrestled and violated the hazardous activity clause, the Titans would be in the catbird seat. They could've forced him to sign an extension for pennies on the dollar with the alternative being unemployment. Legally, they're perfectly within their rights and they're protecting themselves. Strategically, they goofed. Yes he's a moron, is this news? :p
