The Birth of the Dragon

In the city of Nagoya, Japan, lives a young man with giant dream. His dream is to change the wrestling industry forever. He has seen countless professional wrestlers bring the same things to the table time after time, but he is different. This unique sixteen year old is very well trained in martial arts, and he plans to incorporate his knowledge into his moveset, one that will not only dazzle fans around the world, but also a moveset that will allow him to pick up victories in matches in almost every way imaginable. This young man's name is Yoshihiro Asai, and this is his story. Asai gained a basic knowledge of professional wrestling and it's inner workings, and he felt that at the ripe young age of sixteen, he was ready to enter this industry that has claimed countless victims. The first matter at hand was for Asai to choose the personality that he would portray. Asai has had a fantasy character in his head since he was a little boy, that of a dragon, more specifically, the last student of Bruce Lee, the final dragon, or it's rightful name......Ultimo Dragon. Asai made a tough choice after that though. He knew he wanted to use the character of the Ultimo Dragon, but he did not want to use it to begin with. He wanted to save the character for when he was comfortable with his abilities and wanted to make a run at being a major player in the wrestling scene. He was afraid that if he broke out his Ultimo Dragon character too early, he would taint it with losses before he was more skilled, so he decided that he would wrestle under his real name for the time being, Yoshihiro Asai. Finally he had to decide on where he would start his professional career. It made sense that he would start in Japan, and he fully intended to, but he had saved up plenty of money and he knew he could afford to travel between North America and Asia if need be, and he could also pay for these flights with his money he would make in the wrestling industry. His first goal was to make it in the super junior division of his favorite promotion New Japan Pro Wrestling, and when he got established there he would head to America and become a star there. He saw that as his ultimate goal. Being a star in America brings fame and fortune like nowhere else, and that to achieve his dream, he would have to become immensely popular, something that wouldn't be easy in America, but he felt he could do it. So here is the first crossroads in his life. He could live the normal Japanese lifestyle, or he could enter his dream life of wrestling. Asai chose the path that so few have chosen, the path following his dream. So this is where our story picks up, THE BIRTH OF THE DRAGON

May 2nd was a fateful day in the story of Yoshihiro Asai. He contacted the Universal Pro-Wrestling Federation, a small sized pure wrestling organization based out of the Kanto region of Japan. This will be the only place that Asai works at the current time due to their schedule that has at least one show every week. That show is UWF Ancestors Drive Us Onward, which is held every Tuesday. Asai sees this as a great opportunity, because UWF has several young wrestlers just like him looking to make a name for themselves. He knows that he can use UWF to springboard him into New Japan or All Japan, and he can become the greatest wrestler in Japan before he ships off to become the best wrestler in America. It is yet to be seen if he will receive consistent booking in UWF, and if he doesn't he may have no other choice but to go to America a little bit early, but that is still yet to be seen. On the May 9, 1983 edition of UWF Ancestors Drive Us Onward event our young hero, Yoshihiro Asai did not receive any booking. This came with a reason though. This week UWF created three new championships, the UWF National, UWF National Tag, and the UWF World Heavyweight Championship. This event was to crown the singles champions. It turned out that Shinichi Nakano won the National Championship, while Kantaro Hoshino became the promotions number one man by winning the World Heavyweight Championship. Asai hopes that he is booked next week, and if he isn't then he may have no other choice but to look overseas for additional work. Asai didn't just sit dormant all week though, he went out and trained, vastly improving his basic wrestling ability. He heard that one first must learn the basics to become a great professional wrestler, so he figured that this would be where he would dedicate the early portion of his training, and after he mastered the basic he could focus on specialized areas to make him a great wrestler. While that was going on in Japan, the American wrestling scene was in a state of flux. It seemed that a clear number one promotion has taken a step forward, as Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling has declared themselves a national promotion, and have started snatching up talent from across the world to challenge Ric Flair for his NWA World Heavyweight Championship. MACW's new talent includes: Bob Backlund, Dusty Rhodes, Adrian Adonis, Terry Gordy, Dick Murdoch, Curtis Iaukea, and Hiro Matsuda.

[*]Niikura quickly locks in a body scissors on Asai, draining energy from him. [*]Niikura stays in control with a wide variety of submission holds while grounded, but Asai never submits to the pain. [*]Hase quickly got up from this and got the first punch in on Asai, then hit him with an inside out baseball slide, sending Asai to the outside. [*]Hase grabbed the top rope and decided to go for a plancha dive onto Asai, but Asai was one step quicker and moved out of the way. [*]Asai then got Hase back in the ring, where he kicked him into the corner and nailed a handspring backflip elbow into Hase's chest. [*]Asai follwed up quickly by locking in the devestating Cavernaria Clutch on Hase, but he refused to tap out. June 1, 1983 rolled around, and Asai's wrestling career was officially one month old. It went better as he expected as he had two convincing wins under his belt already, compared to only one loss. Asai was impressing the UWF fans quickly, and that would result in him rising up the ladder very quickly he hoped. But Asai came to the conclusion that to improve faster, he would have to branch out, so that's when Asai decided to make a little trip east to the middle of the Pacific..... On Polynesian Pro Wrestling's only event of the month, they impressed somebody, so they were given a television show. This allows PPW to have five events per month instead of one, so they are much more appealing now, and plus, the upgrade in size makes them want to expand the roster. Asai decided that since it wasn't too long of a flight he would contact PPW about joining their roster. If accepted it would double Asai's matches every month, and it would also expose him to not only an American television office, but it would allow him to get in an inner circle with the powerful Samoan wrestling family, which could come in handy down the road.

On June 2, 1983 it became official, Yoshihiro Asai was now a part of Polynesian Pro Wrestling. Chief Peter Miavia quickly got back to Asai and said that he fit the role that they have been seeking out for quite some time. He informed Asai that he would be brought in as an evil foreigner, which would allow Asai to work as a heel, which would be a nice change from UWF. He also told him that the company's junior heavyweight championship was vacant, so once he proved himself he would likely get a run at that championship. He was then told he would be starting this Friday. [*]Asai dominated the match from there, hitting everything from suplexes, bodyslams, and even sentons while Niikura was on the ground. [*]Asai made a mistake though when he allowed Niikura to slip out of a back suplex, and Niikura hammered away on Asai for a couple of minutes. [*]Asai rebounded with a high crossbody and got a two count on Niikura. [*]Asai controled action for about a minute, then went for his Dragon Sleeper, but Niikura slipped out of it as well. [*]Niikura then drove the rest of the way, and he finished Asai off with a vicious rolling short arm scissors, forcing Asai to tap out. [*]Asai kept Anoa'i grounded with a variety of holds, but Anoa'i fought back and got control, but right away couldn't connect on a backdrop. [*]Asai connected with a wheel kick, then dropped Anoa'i with a back suplex, but was unsuccessful on the springboard legdrop. [*]Anoa'i came back and hit a springboard splash on Asai, then headed up for the Flying Headbutt, but Asai was able to avoid the contact. [*]Anoa'i started the assault by taking Asai down with an armdrag, then went straight to work on the head of his opponent. [*]Anoa'i hit some uppercuts before a big leaping headbutt, followed by a huge roundhouse chop. [*]Asai fought back against Anoa'i, and he took him down with an arm wringer, then followed that up with a series of sentons. [*]Asai ran at Anoa'i, but he hit him with a backdrop, then locked in the Boston Crab, forcing Asai to tap out.
