...
In 1988, media mogul Ted Turner purchased Jim Crockett Promotions from NWA member Jim Crockett. Crockett had been promoting shows under the title of Georgia Championship Wrestling (and later World Championship Wrestling) that aired on Turner's TBS superstation. In light of financial woes within the company, Turner purchased it in order to retain one of the highest rated shows on his network. World Championship Wrestling News And Notes -Wow, alright, so this is where the big boys play, huh? This is WCW and now we're in the jungle, baby! We are coming off Starrcade 1990: Collision Course where Ric Flair was unmasked as the Black Scorpion in an attempt to take the NWA World Heavyweight Title away from Sting. Here are the other results of that card:
Bobby Eaton defeated The Z-Man (8:45)[1] Eaton pinned The Z-Man with an inside cradle. Quarterfinal: The Steiner Brothers (Rick and Scott) (USA) defeated Sgt. Krueger and Col. DeKlerk (South Africa) (2:12)[1] Scott pinned DeKlerk after a Frankensteiner. Quarterfinal: Konan and Rey Misterio (Mexico) defeated Chris Adams and Norman Smiley (United Kingdom) (5:29)[1] Konan pinned Smiley after a super inverted vertical suplex. Quarterfinal: Mr. Saito and The Great Muta (Japan) defeated The Royal Family (Rip Morgan and Jack Victory) (New Zealand) (5:41)[1] Muta pinned Victory with a bridging German suplex. Quarterfinal: Victor Zangiev and Salman Hashimikov (Soviet Union) defeated Troy Montour and Danny Johnson (Canada) (3:54)[1] Hashimikov pinned Montour after a belly to belly suplex. Michael Wallstreet (w/Alexandra York) defeated Terry Taylor (6:52)[1] Wallstreet pinned Taylor after a Stock Market Crash. The Skyscrapers (Sid Vicious and Danny Spivey) defeated Big Cat and The Motor City Madman (1:01)[1] Vicious pinned Madman after a double powerbomb with Spivey. Tommy Rich and Ricky Morton (w/Robert Gibson) defeated Fabulous Freebirds (Jimmy Garvin and Michael Hayes) (w/Little Richard Marley) (6:13)[1] Morton pinned Garvin with a roll-up. Semifinal: The Steiner Brothers (USA) defeated Konan and Rey Misterio (Mexico) (2:51)[1] Rick pinned Misterio after a powerbomb. Semifinal: Mr. Saito and The Great Muta (Japan) defeated Victor Zangiev and Salman Hashimikov (Soviet Union) (3:08)[1] Saito pinned Zangiev after a Saito suplex. Lex Luger defeated Stan Hansen in a Texas Lariat match to win the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship (10:13)[1] Luger won after touching all four turnbuckles. NWA World Tag Team Champions Doom (Ron Simmons and Butch Reed) (w/Teddy Long) and Arn Anderson and Barry Windham fought to a no-contest in a Street Fight (7:19)[1] The match ended in a draw when Windham pinned Simmons, and Reed pinned Anderson simultaneously. Doom retained the title. Final: The Steiner Brothers (USA) defeated Mr. Saito and The Great Muta (Japan) (10:52)[1] Rick pinned Saito with a sunset flip to win the tournament. Sting defeated The Black Scorpion (w/Dick the Bruiser as special guest referee) in a steel cage match to retain the NWA World Heavyweight Championship (18:31)[1] Sting pinned Scorpion after a diving crossbody. Per the pre-match stipulation, The Black Scorpion had to unmask, and was revealed to be Ric Flair.
-An interesting card to begin from. Congratulations to men like Sting, the Steiner Brothers and Lex Luger for winning their respective matches. -A number of feelers have been sent out to various superstars to see if they would be willing to come in or back to WCW. We'll have to wait and see on those. -We have a WCW Saturday Night taping coming up on Wednesday as well as a WCW Power Hour taping that same day. -Jim Ross and Jesse Ventura will be hosting WCW Saturday Night. -Tony Schiavone and Jesse Ventura will be hosting WCW Power Hour. -With Tuesday comes several things, several of our superstars have been offered contracts to work with other promotions. We don't discourage this persay so long as it doesn't interfere with their contractual obligations to WCW. -The second day on the job, I was also visited by Ted Turner with a set of goals to accomplish:
-Goal #1: When the time expires, WCW must not have fallen below #2 in the promotion rankings. Expires: 23 Months, 3 Weeks Level: Critical -Goal #2: The financial balance of WCW must not have fallen below $8,000,000 when the time expires. Expires: 23 Months, 3 Weeks Level: Critical -Goal #3: Ric Flair must have reached at least B+ grade momentum when the time expires. Expires: 23 Months, 3 Weeks Level: High -Goal #4: Arn Anderson must be kept above C+ grade momentum. Expires: 17 Months, 3 Weeks Level: High -Goal #5: You can't hire any wrestler who is classed as a Psychopath Expires: 27 Months, 3 Weeks Level: Average -Goal #6: You cannot hire or extend the contract of any wrestler who has less than C- in Toughness Expires: 19 Months, 3 Weeks Level: Average
-Some of those goals seem more difficult than others but if that is what Mr. Turner wants, then that is what he is going to get. -More offers were made on Wednesday. The wrestlers let me know about them but they assured me they wouldn't be taking time off from their WCW schedule.

I hope to do you proud! And do expect some definite changes in the rankings and such to be coming maybe sooner than later. Though I am definitely trying to keep with the WCW 1991 feel and slowly turning it into my own.

WCW Saturday Night Wednesday, Week 1, January 1991 Convention Center Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Attendance: 8,651 Following the usual WCW Saturday Night introduction, the cameras pan around the crowd here in Myrtle Beach! Jim Ross Hello everyone and welcome to WCW Saturday Night! I'm Jim Ross alongside Jesse the Body Ventura. Jesse, we have a great night of action here tonight, including that monster Big Van Vader in action! Jesse Ventura Indeed we do, Ross. And you didn't even mention our main event tonight as two members of the Horsemen collide with the Steiner Brothers in a match to determine the top contenders for Doom and the WCW World Tag Team Titles. Jim Ross That should be a great one, Jesse. Now, let's head out to the ring for our opening contest of the night. ------ Brian Pillman vs. Chris Benoit An excellent contrast of styles in our opening bout as the high flying Flyin Brian Pillman takes on the more stoic technical wrestler in Chris Benoit. Pillman started the match off with that fast pace, definitely not the forte of Benoit but once Benoit caught Pillman, he really started cranking in the advantage. Fans here at Myrtle Beach were shocked when Benoit locked on a Dragon Suplex with a bridge and pinfall and got the 3 count for the true upset victory! Winner: Chris Benoit Match Time: 8:28 Match Rating: C ------ The attention turns down toward the interview area and Tony Schiavone along with two special guests. Tony Schiavone Good evening wrestling fans! I'm Tony Schiavone and right now I'd like to welcome out two men who will be in the main event tonight. They are two members of the elite group known as the 4 Horsemen: Arn Anderson and Barry Windham. Arn, at Starrcade, you and Barry teamed up to come within an eyelash of winning the WCW World Tag Team Titles from Doom. And now tonight you take on the Steiner Brothers for another shot at those same belts. Arn Anderson That's right, Tony. Ron Simmons and Butch Reed know that they came within inches of losing those belts to the Horsemen. And I can tell you this, they don't WANT us to win that match tonight. They know that we won't be holding back at the Clash after we beat the Steiner Brothers tonight. So, Tony, you better be prepared to crown some new WCW World Tag Team Champions at the Clash of the Champions and you can take that to the bank. Tony Schiavone Barry? Barry Windham Tony, I think my partner here said it all. Tonight, our focus, the Horsemen's focus is on the Steiner Brothers and then at the Clash we'll have gold back where it belongs: around our waist. Tony Schiavone Thank you, Gentlemen. Now, let's head back up to the ring for our next contest. ------ Charlie Norris vs. The Diamond Studd Diamond Dallas Page escorted the Diamond Studd to the ring. Charlie Norris was already in there. The Diamond Studd walked over to Norris and flicked a toothpick in his face, looking as arrogant as ever. And when the match began, the Diamond Studd backed up that arrogance with some power over the Native American. The crowd wasn't entirely into this match, though. The Diamond Studd tossed Norris out of the ring and DDP got his shots in on Norris before the Diamond Studd put him away with a Fall Away Slam. Winner: The Diamond Studd Match Time: 6:39 Match Rating: D- Following the match, the Diamond Studd was handed a microphone. The Diamond Studd Hey yo. I think that everyone out here can agree that myself and Diamond Dallas Page are the only two diamonds in this business. The only problem is that I do not see gold around our waists. But that situation is about to be changed because at the Clash of the Champions I am going to take the World Television Title out of the hands of that pathetic Z-Man. Z-Man? You better be ready because at the Clash I am going to carve you up. ------ Non-Title: Doom vs. The Youngbloods Following a commercial, the Youngbloods were already in the ring and out came the WCW World Tag Team Champions along with their manager Teddy Long: Doom. The Youngbloods started off hot against the Champs but it was soon shown that they were outmatched against Doom. Mark Youngblood was off his game and outside the ring he took a few shots from Teddy Long. Inside the ring, Ron Simmons nailed Chris Youngblood with a Powerslam and got the pinfall victory. Winners: Doom Match Time: 8:53 Match Rating: D ------ The attention returns to the interview area and Tony Schiavone. Tony Schiavone Hello, wrestling fans, Tony Schiavone here again and this time my guest is none other than the WCW World Heavyweight Champion STING! Sting walks out to cheers from the crowd, moving to stand beside Tony. Tony Schiavone Sting, at Starrcade, you successfully pushed back the attempt of Ric Flair as the Black Scorpion to unseat you as the Champion. What is next for Sting? Sting I don't know, Tony, but I know these fans are fired up here in Myrtle Beach! They're ready to see the Stinger in action! OWWWW! Tony brings back the microphone but they are interrupted by the presence of none other than former 7 time NWA World Champion Harley Race! Harley Race So these fans want to see you in action, huh? You know that normally I don't care what these fans want but maybe just maybe I can accomodate you on that. Sting Are you implying that YOU want a title shot, Race? Harley Race No, I'm retired. But I do have a man just itching to get into the ring with you. As Race has Sting distracted, Big Van Vader sneaks up behind him and clubs him with a forearm in the back, staggering the Champ! Tony heads for higher ground as Sting begins fighting back against Vader to cheers from the crowd but Race grabs Sting's arms from behind and Big Van Vader clubs into him with those forearm shots! Vader yanks Sting down between his legs in the makings of a Power Bomb position but out come some WCW wrestlers to break things up and Vader walks away, happy, knowing he got the better of the Champ on this night. ------ The Freebirds vs. The Patriots Big Daddy Dink led Jimmy Garvin and Michael Hayes down to the ring for this match against the WCW Patriots. The Patriots actually did a pretty good job in this match, much to the surprise of the Freebirds. It took a little interference from Big Daddy Dink for the Freebirds to regain the advantage. But once they did, it was all Freebirds from there. Michael Hayes got the pinfall on Todd Champion following a DDT. Winners: The Freebirds Match Time: 9:18 Match Rating: D- ------ The attention turns backstage, showing Harley Race and Big Van Vader walking down a hallway. They turn a corner and run right into Lex Luger! Lex Luger I saw what you guys did to Sting earlier and I want you to know that I think it's pathetic that such a big man has to attack someone from behind. Next week how about you take on someone from the front. Harley Race Like you, Luger? You gonna be willing to put that belt on the line? Lex Luger If that's what it takes to get your big man in the ring then that's what I'll do. Vader, I'll see you next week! The two men get eye to eye before the camera fades. ------ Nikita Koloff vs. P.N. News "Yo baby Yo baby Yo!" The Rapmaster came down to the ring with fans cheering him on and then it was time for the Russian Nightmare Nikita Koloff to make his entrance. Koloff didn't look like he much cared for the games that P.N. News was playing. And once the bell rang, this match was a brawl from start to finish. Koloff locked on a reverse chinlock late but P.N. News was having none of that. He got to his feet and dropped backwards, crushing Nikita in the process and breaking the hold. News went to the turnbuckles and climbed up. He leaped for that Splash but Nikita rolled out of the way and News hit nothing but canvas! The Russian Nightmare stood up and waited for News to get to his feet, NAILING him with a Russian Sickle and getting the pinfall victory. Winner: Nikita Koloff Match Time: 7:18 Match Rating: D- ------
A video begins playing. 'What I would like to have right now... Is for all you fat, out of shape, pro wrestling fan sweathogs... Keep the noise down while I take my robe off... And show you what a real man is supposed to look like... Hit my music...' A video began playing showing Ravishing Rick Rude in action and proclaiming the fact that he is returning to World Championship Wrestling!
------ Big Josh vs. Big Van Vader The crowd was mostly into this match to boo Big Van Vader as he came out with his manager Harley Race. The man from the Northwest was no match for Vader as Vader dominated the match from start to finish, toying with Big Josh at times. Big Van Vader looked good in this match despite the crowd's boos and finished off Big Josh with a Vader Bomb that looked deadly and a pinfall. Winner: Big Van Vader Match Time: 6:48 Match Rating: C Following the win, Vader picked up Big Josh and tucked him in, lifting him up and hitting a second Vader Bomb before dragging Big Josh over to the corner. Race kept the referee from interfering as Vader climbed to the second turnbuckle, bounced a few times and then splashed Big Josh, leaving Big Josh to clutch at his ribs. Harley Race looked into the camera and said 'that's gonna be you next week, Lex Luger!' ------
A video begins playing Midgets are used dancing in a circle together in the sun... The sun turns dark suddenly and they all scream and begin to scatter away... A face is shown within the dark cloud covering the sun, laughing... OZ...coming soon to WCW.
------ Winners Face Doom At Clash of the Champions for WCW World Tag Team Titles: Arn Anderson and Barry Windham vs. The Steiner Brothers And it's main event time as these two teams fight for the right to face Doom at the Clash. Rick Steiner and Arn Anderson brawled to start the match with Rick eventually getting the advantage and knocking Double A outside the ring. Rick ran around the ring, barking and then got down on all 4's as Scott came in the ring and stood over him with both of them staring at Anderson and Windham. Later in the match, Anderson took the advantage on Rick Steiner and the Horsemen began their double teams, keeping Rick in their corner as Scott looked on, almost begging for a tag at this point. The crowd tried to cheer on Rick Steiner but Anderson and Windham kept on him. There were multiple times when Rick had a bit of a chance to make a tag but Anderson or Windham were there to cut him off. Windham sent Rick Steiner to the ropes but Rick ducked a clothesline attempt and pushed Barry Windham into a neutral corner before catching him with a German Suplex, no bridge, ALL IMPACT! The crowd cheered on Rick, clapping and stomping their feet trying to get him to tag in his brother. Windham crawled toward his own corner and tagged in Double A! Anderson came running in but Rick made the tag to his brother! Scott came running in, taking down Anderson with a Steinerline! He knocked Barry Windham off the apron with one for him and Scott grabbed Anderson, whipping him into the ropes: tilt-a-whirl suplex! Barry Windham comes sliding back into the ring but he gets caught: Belly-to-Belly Overhead Suplex by Scott Steiner! Rick comes back into the ring and hits Arn Anderson with a Belly-to-Belly Suplex! The crowd is on their feet as Scott signals for the end...! Rick brings Barry Windham out of the ring as Scott grabs Arn Anderson and whips him into the ropes...FRANKENSTEINER on Arn Anderson!!! Scott makes a cover: 1...2...3!!! The Steiner Brothers win it! They will go on to face Doom at the Clash! Winners: The Steiner Brothers Match Time: 14:46 Match Rating: B- Rick slides back into the ring with his brother but they both get blindsided by the WCW World Tag Team Champions! Doom stands tall in the ring after nailing both Steiner Brothers with the belts! What a horrible way to end the broadcast but we're out of time! Overall Rating: C+ TV Rating: To Be Announced

WCW POWER HOUR Thursday, Week 1, January 1991 Memorial Center Orangeburg, South Carolina Attendance: 1,904 The sounds of the ending of Bonanza can only signal one thing. That's right, it's time for the WCW Power Hour along with Tony Schiavone and Jesse 'The Body' Ventura! The camera pans around the Memorial Center, picking up signs in the crowd that are pro-Sting and pro-Lex Luger in particular. Tony Schiavone Hello wrestling fans, Tony Schiavone here along with Jesse Ventura. Jesse, we have an action-packed card tonight, including the top contenders to the WCW World Tag Team Titles The Steiner Brothers in action! Jesse Ventura It's only a moment of calender days until they get beaten by Doom, Schiavone. But what I want to talk about is the main event. We are going to get to witness the Nature Boy Ric Flair taking on Beautiful Bobby Eaton. Tony Schiavone That should be a spectacular main event, Jesse. But let's head up to the ring for our opening contest. ------ Hiroshi Hase and Masahiro Chono vs. The Steiner Brothers A very very good tag team encounter to kick things off here on the Power Hour. The Steiner Brothers in particular looked good out there against Chono and Hase. The Japanese duo put up quite a fight against the Steiners but in the end Scott hit Hase with a Frankensteiner and a pinfall as they prepare for the Clash. Winners: The Steiner Brothers Match Time: 8:22 Match Rating: B- ------
A video begins to play. Coming up on this week's edition of WCW Saturday Night, you are going to see your favorite World Championship Wrestling superstars in action, including... The Total Package Lex Luger defending his United States Heavyweight Title against Big Van Vader with Harley Race in his corner. Can the Total Package win out? Or will Big Van Vader be going into the Clash of the Champions with a title already around his waist?
------ Handicap Match: El Gigante vs. The State Patrol The State Patrol looked slightly intimidated when the 7'7" giant El Gigante came into the ring. They both attacked him at once but Gigante pushed them backward. Gigante took down Lt. James Earl Wright with a body slam and then clotheslined down Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker. The State Patrol tried to come back in the match but Gigante got Parker caught in the Claw and Parker had to give up. The announcers spent the match putting over the size of El Gigante. Winner: El Gigante Match Time: 7:15 Match Rating: E- ------ The cameras focused in on the announcers. Jesse Ventura Schiavone, I was just handed some great news that I have to share with the world. On WCW Saturday Night, in addition to Lex Luger defending the United States Heavyweight Title against Big Van Vader, we're going to have another title defense. Tony Schiavone What's that, Jesse? Jesse Ventura Harley Race has spoken to the NWA Booking Committee and it has been announced that on this Saturday Night's edition of WCW Saturday Night STING will be defending the WCW World Heavyweight Title. His opponent is already in the ring in a mister Sam Houston. As the match goes on, fans remind everyone that the Horsemen actually broke Sam Houston's arm in their early stages. Houston fought against the Enforcer but it was Anderson that came out the victor following a thumb across the throat and a Spinebuster slam. Winner: Arn Anderson Match Time: 5:48 Match Rating: D+ ------
A video begins playing. 'What I would like to have right now... A video began playing showing Ravishing Rick Rude in action and proclaiming the fact that he is returning to World Championship Wrestling!
------ Bobby Eaton vs. Ric Flair And it's main event time as fan favorite Beautiful Bobby Eaton takes on the head of the IV Horsemen: The Nature Boy Ric Flair. Eaton started things off quick and heavy on the Nature Boy, keeping Flair off-guard and surprising the former Black Scorpion with some technical savvy. Flair used a roll out of the ring and then a thumb to the eyes to take the advantage. He cast a few tough chops to the chest of Eaton and then turned his attention to the knee of the Beautiful One. He used a kneebar and rammed Eaton's leg against the ringpost before sliding into the ring and doing a little strut to boos from the crowd. Flair went for the Figure 4 Leglock but Eaton reversed it into a Small Package!... 1... 2... Kickout!! Flair kicked out of the Small Package and Eaton avoided a quick elbowdrop and Bobby whipped Flair across the ring! Flair flipped up and over the top turnbuckle, running across to the opposite side and climbing up but Eaton caught him with a slam! Eaton grabbed his leg after that though and couldn't follow up with a pinfall. When Eaton got over, Flair was begging off. Eaton got the crowd's approval, raising a fist but he got poked in the eye by Flair! Eaton staggered around the ring a moment and Flair clipped that already hurt knee! Flair rolled Eaton into an Inside Cradle... 1... 2... 3!! Winner: Ric Flair Match Time: 10:52 Match Rating: B Flair got the pinfall but he wasn't done! He went right back after the leg and wrapped on the Figure 4 Leglock! Eaton cried out in pain as referee Nick Patrick tried to get the hold broken to no avail! Flair grabbed the ropes for leverage, making Eaton hurt even more! Then the crowd cheered as out came... EL GIGANTE!!! The giant of a man stepped over the top rope and into the ring! Flair saw him with wide eyes and broke the hold, begging off before sliding out of the ring. It looks like the Nature Boy wants no part of El Gigante! And we're out of time! We'll see you Saturday Night for our two big matches! OVERALL RATING: B- TV RATING: To Be Announced

World Championship Wrestling -Both cards went over well with the fans and they are really looking forward to seeing our big matches on WCW Saturday Night. That should be a blast! -An incident occured between Jesse Ventura and the Diamond Studd following WCW Saturday Night where Jesse Ventura instigated a fight that had to be broken up by numerous wrestlers. Ventura was brought in to see me and he was given a warning and he said it won't happen again in the future. But we here at WCW will be keeping our eye on him. -A decision was made regarding former WCW Vice President Jim Herd. We decided to release him from his contract. Several wrestlers, including Ric Flair, Sid Vicious, Scott Steiner and Arn Anderson and announcer Jim Ross approached me all happy about this decision, thinking it will make for a better backstage area. -Former AWA referee Jim Mitchell was hired to perform within that same role here for us at WCW. -Michael Hayes signed a pay-per-appearance deal with Smoky Mountain Wrestling. -Terry Taylor has decided to leave us to take a head booking position with Polynesian Pro Wrestling. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavor. -Former IV Horsemen member Tully Blanchard has been signed to a WCW contract and will be serving with us as a Road Agent. -WCW Saturday Night drew a 1.88 rating on TBS. -We were warned by TBS that they want higher ratings or they are gonna cut our programming. Hopefully our matches this Saturday night will raise that rating high enough. -Our house show on Saturday night made $15,150. -TBS and TSN both sent back ratings warnings on WCW Power Hour. -WCW Power Hour draws a .25 rating on TBS. -WCW Power Hour draws a .00 rating on TSN. -Gordon Solie signed a deal with PPW and their new head booker Terry Taylor. -Our house show on Monday night made $31,800. -Masahiro Chono signed a deal to work with SWS. -Big Josh signed to work with SMW.
Your spoken dialogue is good man, I can hear each person in my head
I appreciate the compliment there. I will admit that sometimes I will go on youtube.com and just listen to interviews to get a better feel for the character before writing their dialogue. lol. I know it sounds kinda silly but I am trying to do the best I can for my readers. :-)

I can't tell you how many wrestling promos I have watched to get a feel for Wrestlers... Really enjoying this one, as I do all your real life dynasties! Ventura is a great choice for a color man too.

I actually watched the Ric Flair/Big Van Vader Starrcade 1993 match and it really got me into Ventura as a color commentator. lol. But thanks for your comments! Keep them coming and don't forget to predict! LOL.
I'd like to see you consider implementing a Light-Heavyweight division if the Liger/Pillman match produces good results.
It's definitely something I've taken under consideration already with matches like the Liger/Pillman and Benoit/Pillman though Benoit is a middleweight.
