World Wrestling Federation Press Release (Stamford, CT, December 19th 1991 - 1pm ET) World Wrestling Federation Inc. have appointed Tony Douglas as the new Senior Vice President of Talent Relations and Creative Writing effective as of 1/1/1992. WWF owner Vincent K. McMahon will be holding a full press conference at 11am on 12/20/1991 at WWF Headquarters in Stamford, CT to officially announce this appointment. ________________________________________ Wrestling Wrap December 21st Edition The industry was rocked yesterday when Vince McMahon announced that he was appointing a new Senior VP of Talent Relations and Creative Writing in Tony Douglas. This is a postion which has never existed before within the WWF although it essentially amounts to an old fashined 'head booker' position. As a limited company WWF have no requirement to create such position, so the decison to take such a step has created much discussion amongst industry insiders. Wrestling Wrap understands that although Tony Douglas will be taking control of much of the hiring and firing for the company as well as taking the pencil on a full-time basis he will still be answerable to McMahon. One well placed insider has told us that he believes this is a temporary measure as Vince McMahon needs to take a step back from full-time management of the company to deal with some as yet unkown 'personal issues'. With neither of Vince's children being sufficiently experienced or capable of assuming control Vince has instead entrusted it to one of his most trusted lieutenants. We'll have more on this astonishing story in the coming days. You can also read a small bio of Douglas, pictured, below Tony Douglas broke in the the wrestling business in Florida where he worked for Eddie Graham's CWF promotion. He resisted several offers from the World Wrestling Federation in the early 1980's but following Graham's death in 1985 he joined the World Wrestling Federation as a ring announcer. In 1986 he became a play-by-play announcer for the promotion's smaller television shows. During the latter stages of the 1980's Douglas was an active part of the booking process within the WWF and was credited with a great deal of the company's creative success during that period. In December of 1991 Douglas was approached by Vince McMahon to take over as head booker of the WWF as Vince had decided that he needed to take a step back to deal with his personal issues and neither of his two children were ready to take over the company at this stage. Many wrestling insiders expect Douglas' job to be nothing more than a temporary position until Vince returns full-time.
Notes: This is my first go at a Dynasty guys although I used to run a forum based e-fed a few years ago which was pretty succesful. I made up the Wrestling Wrap newsletter as a way of getting around the problem of how to incorporate the internet within a mod which takes place before it existed on a worldwide basis. General thoughts ans feedback on the backstory would be appreciated. I'll be looking to get the first proper diary entry up late today.
The Wrestling Wrap January 1992 Edition WWF News The World Wrestling Federation has been under the leadership of Tony Douglas for just 7 days so far yet already we have several news items to bring you from the #1 wrestling company on the planet, the most shocking of which conerns the suspension of a fan favourite. -Kerry Von Erich was suspended this past week after testing postive for a hard drug, thought to be cocaine. Sources tell us that following the positive test, 'The Texas Tornado' was hauled before Douglas who wasted no time in suspending him without pay for 30 day and ordering him into rehab in the meantime. More on this story as we get it. -Some new faces have shown up in the WWF in the past week ranging from established stars to virtual nobodies. Certainly the biggest signing is that of Michael 'PS' Hayes who was previously working on a pay-per-appearance deal with WCW and the GWF. Douglas is thought to have big plans for Hayes with our sources telling us that they expect a strong push for the former Freebird. -Other new faces joining the company include a young wrestler by the name of Monty Sopp. Sopp debuted in a dark match prior to this weeks Prime Time taping as a cowboy named Billy Gunn. He went over the Brooklyn Brwaler in under 5 minutes. -The final two signings made just before press time were another young worker Mike Barton and former AWA wreslter Del Wilkes who is now wrestling as The Patriot. More on these two in next month's issue. -Despite this inlfux of new talent it's thought that Douglas isn't quite done yet. One insider told us that the WWF supremo had been attempting to contact Bam Bam Bigelow about a return to the promotion but as yet hadn't heard anything to indicate that Bigelow was interested in coming back. -With all these guys coming in it was inevtiable that people would start to go the other way. So far only 2 people have been casualties of the reshuffle with General Adnan and Billy Red Lyons both being let go. We'll have lots more updates from the Stamford based federation in our Royal Rumble Special Edition which is dues in a couple of weeks.

Bobby Heenan: Ya know Monsoon, some of these rednecks almost make Bret Hart look intelligent. Monsoon: Speaking of 'The Hitman', he'll be in action tonight defending his Intercontinental title against the 'Million Dollar Man' Ted DiBiase. Heenan: That's a guaranteed title switch right there, Ted told me himself. He said, "Bobby, when I get in the ring with that little peon Bret Hart he'll need everyone last one of his stupid Canadian family to carry him out of there". Monsoon: Well that's as may be but right now let's some more title action underway, this time of the tag team vartiety. LOD had the best of the early going before The Natural Disasters took control and isolated Hawk. Hawk made the hot tag to Animal as LOD started to regain control. Just as things looked at their worst for his team The Natural Disasters manager Jimmy Hart got up on the apron and nailed Hawk with his megaphone resulting in a DQ. Winners: The Legion Of Doom by DQ Match Time: 9.11 Match Rating: B ____________________ A Graphic was shown hyping an appearence from 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair......NEXT! Pre-taped interview with Ric Flair Ric Flair: WOOOOOOOOO! It's the Nature Boy, riding high on top of the World Wrestling Federation. I'm here to tell you people one thing, and one thing only. That is, that I'm going to the Royal Rumble and I'm coming out on top WOOOO! 29 other men, they're gonna walk in and I'm gonna throw them out. Nobody can measure up, nobody can lace my boots. I don't care if you're Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, British Bulldog or even the Brooklyn Brawler, you ain't got a shot. WOOOOOO! Virgil got the win for his team when he pinned Blake Beverley after a cross-body. Winners: Virgil, Koko B. I have had it up to here with dealing with this peon and his fat, lazy, stupid family! Now, we all know that everybody has a price for the Million Dollar Man, and the price is this; I am offering $100,000 to the first person to take out a member of the Hart family. I don't care who it is, it could be Stu, it could be Bret, hell it could even be Helen, I just don't care. Ha ha ha ha ha! ____________________ The Troubles of Jake 'The Snake' Roberts Jake Roberts was in the ring about to cut a promo. As he began to speak, the lights started to flicker. Looking around wildly, Roberts seemed spooked. As the lights returned to normal, Roberts attempted to speak again. Only this time the mic wasn't working. Roberts then angrily approached Howard Finkel at ringside for another mic. Finally thinking his problems were over, Jake returned to the centre of the ring to complete his promo. However, as Roberts prepared to start speaking this time the ring filled with smoke! Thoroughly spooked by now, Roberts abandoned the mic and his promo and hightailed it to the back. ____________________ WWF Intercontinental Title Match Bret 'The Hitman' Hart (c) Vs 'Million Dollar Man' Ted DiBiase What a main event this turned out to be! Billed as a real grudge match given recent events between the two this one certainly lived up to the hype. Both guys went back and forth in the early going with some great offensive manouveres and reversals. Di Biase claimed control when he narrowly avoided a shoulder charge in the corner which led to Bret ramming his shoulder into the ring post! DiBiase then dominated for a spell before the Hitman was finally able to reverse the tide a little with reverse atomic drop after avoding a DiBiase clothesline. Bret slowly but surely gained control of the match from here and looked like had had it won when he locked in the Sharpshooter. However, Ted DiBiase showed his experience by quickly getting to the ropes. Following this scare, DiBiase rolled out of the ring and abandoned the match, claiming that he would get Bret Hart on another day! Winner: Bret ' The Hitman' Hart by Count Out Match Time: 15.49 Match Rating: B ____________________ Road to the Rumble Pre-taped segment: Hulk Hogan & Sid Justice were on hand to promote the upcoming Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View. ____________________ Singles Match The Ultimate Warrior Vs Hercules This one sure was a blast from the past as this match actually took place 2 months ago in November of 1991, in fact it was one of Warrior's last matches before he disappeared from the WWF. Not much in this one to be honest as Warrior dominated and won clean in just 5:33 with his Big Splash. Winner: The Ultimate Warrior by pinfall Match Time: 5:33 Match Rating: C- Post match, Warrior posed a lot and we see most of it. ____________________ Piper's Picks Roddy Piper had a promo segment where he hyped up the forthcoming Royal Rumble and gave his top 5 picks to watch out for in the Rumble match. Hammer started out the stronger, pummeling The Model with his trademark stiff offence. Hammer made the mistake of attempting a back drop which allowed The Model to regain control with a vicious kick to the face. The action got hotter here and when the ref was knocked down Martel took advantage and sprayed his 'Arrogance' in the eyes of Valentine. When the ref came to, Martel got a schoolboy rollup for the pinfall. Winner: 'The Model' Rick Martel by pinfall (Martel becomes #1 Contender for the IC Title) Match Time: 10:35 Match Rating: B- ____________________ 6 Man Tag Match The Nasty Boys & Earthquake Vs The New Foundation & Marty Jannetty Your standard 6 Man Tag match here although the heels dominated for a good portion of the match. The basic layout of the match was the speed and agility of Owen Hart & Marty Jannetty against the power of the heel team. Jim Neidhart got in the most offence for the faces and looked like he had it won after a huge powerslam on Knobbs but the pinfall was broken up by Earthquake who went on to hit his Earthquake Splash on former Rocker Jannetty for the win. Winners: The Nasty Boys & Earthquake by pinfall Match Time: 8:01 Match Rating: C- It should be noted that this match didn't take place on the night either as Jannetty was wearing his Rocker's t-shirt and hasn't been seen on tv since Shawn Michael's threw him through the Barber Shop window. ____________________ Andre Meets With The President We see footage of Andre the Giant visiting WWF HQ for a 'behind-closed-doors' meeting with WWF President Jack Tunney. A bland and unexciting match that was dominated by Justice just never really got the fans into it at all. Justice took the anti-climatic win with a Chokeslam. The fans really crapped on this match and showered both guys with total apathy at the end. Winner: Sid Justice by pinfall Match Time: 7:33 Match Rating: D+ END OF SHOW Show Notes: Prior to the show Del Wilkes debuted beating Tito Santana in a Dark Match.
