With no releases as yet we have to wonder how long it will be before a cleanout is ordered by Vince. What is most surprising though is the amount of secrecy attached to some of the signings due to their potential involvement in future plans. Usually it's impossible to keep such things a secret but the 'E have done a great job in keeping most of the new workers names a secret. Names we can confirm: Lance Storm - Road Agent (as confirmed by his website) Orlando Colon - Developmental (as confirmed by WWC) Mistico - ECW/Smackdown ??? Monday Night Raw starts off with highlights of last weeks Raw Main Event featuring Batista, John Cena and John "Bradshaw" Layfield before playing Edge's taunt after the match and finishing with Batista's appearance on Smackdown:
Edge: Feeling good about your victory guys? Pity neither of you could win last night, and it's a damn shame that your failure has cost Raw a World Champion. It's not a great advertisement for the "A" show is it? Come and watch Raw, the show with no Champion, no General Manager and no hope for the future! Back onto the subject of General Managers, my fiance, the lovely Ms Vickie Guerrero has barred anybody from Raw from setting foot in the arena this Friday night, so you can forget trying to challenge Triple H or Myself for a World Title. Cole: That's just typical of Edge, why does he have to turn up on Raw? King: He wants to make sure that Raw is kept Titleless.
We then go to highlights of the Smackdown main event:
JR: Bah Gawd it's Batista! Batista is running down to the ring. Foley: I thought Raw superstars were banned from the building? JR: I don't think The Animal cares! Edge doesn't see Batista until it's too late and gets hit with a massive spear! Batista then quickly rolls out of the ring as the referee turns around to see Mr. Kennedy hit the Kenton Bomb 1...2...3! Ken Kennedy gets the win after the assist from Batista. Post match Batista went back into the ring to get more revenge on Edge but first The Animal had to take care of Hawkins & Ryder. #Bang# Running Knock Out Clothesline on Ryder! #Bang# Batista Bomb on Hawkins! The Animal then turns around to focus on Edge but the cowardly champion was already halfway up the ramp, clutching his World Heavyweight title to his chest. Smackdown ends with Batista swearing revenge while Edge is just glad to have escaped The Animal's wrath.
Raw then begins it's opening video and pyro before heading to the commentary desk. Michael Cole: Hello Ladies and Gentleman and welcome to Monday Night Raw. I'm Michael Cole alongside "The King of Memphis" Jerry Lawler. Jerry Lawler: Thanks Michael, what a Raw we have tonight! Shane McMahon will announce an interim General Manager and not only that we've got a great tag team match up with: HBK & Paul London against Y2J & Lance Cade! Cole: That's right King, I'm excited to find out who will be our new GM and to find out what his plans are for Raw going forward. "Here comes the Money.." King: Looks like we're going to find out now! Now the public face of the WWE, Shane McMahon walks down to the ring microphone in hand to make his big announcement. Shane: Ladies and Gentlemen I'm here tonight to make an announcement regarding not only the future of Raw, but the future of the whole WWE. As you saw a few weeks ago, my father and the chairman of this company Vince McMahon, was involved in a accident on Raw during a McMahon millions giveaway. My father is doing well and will make a full recovery and that is all we are prepared to say on that subject. Those circumstances led to the lack of authority on Raw and a few incidents that I was disappointed with. As a result I have decided to install a temporary General Manager, who may become the official GM later down the line. King: I hope the new GM is a woman, that'd be great! Cole: As long as they do the job I don't care Shane: I was determined to get the best person for the job, the person who could find a way to get a championship back on Raw. The person who could manage the many egos on this show, the person who could make the ratings rise again. It came down to two people, both with suitable CV's and both had a history with the McMahon family. So without further ado, I present the interim General Manager of Raw: "I'm back! and better than ever..." Cole: It's Eric Bischoff! Eric Bischoff is the Raw General Manager again! King: Oh no, not him again. Eric Bischoff joins Shane McMahon in the ring and shakes his hand before taking the microphone. Bischoff: It's great to be back on Raw **crowd boos** When I first got the call from Shane McMahon to come back to Raw, I wasn't going to accept the invitation. I was happy with my many business interests and occasional work for WWE 24/7, I didn't need the stress. Then I thought about it and the more I thought about it the more I wanted to come back, the more I thought I could help Raw. I brain-stormed a few ideas and phoned Shane back, to accept the challenge. As for my plans, well Raw is lacking a World Champion and that was my first task, to rectify that injustice. So I've done some wheeling and dealing and have reached an agreement with the Board of Directors and Smackdown General manager Vickie Guerrero. Tonight we will have a number one contenders match and the winner will face one of Smackdown's World Champions at the Great American Bash. The genius of my plan however was not telling Vickie Guerrero which championship I was talking about but I did however inform the Board of Directors, who signed off on my idea. So tonight we will have John Cena, John "Bradsaw" Layfield and Batista square off in a triple threat match with the winner going to the Great American Bash to face...Edge for the World Heavyweight Title! Cole: Oh my! King: This won't go down well over on Smackdown! Break Kofi Kingston vs. Santino Marella An interesting match to kick off competition on Raw with the Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston going one on one with Santino Marella a non-title match up. Marella totally underestimates Kofi from the start, taking time out to pose and tease the Intercontinental Champion which of course blows up in his face. Kofi's high paced offence keeps Marella off his balance with some great kicks and flying moves until Santino is able to use some dirty tactics to get some offence. The Italian looks good for the remainder of the match until Kofi is able to duck under a clothesline attempt and hit the "Trouble in Paradise" for the win in 7:48 Your Winner: Kofi Kingston Match Rating: C We then see a video of earlier tonight when Eric Bischoff was announced as the new interim GM and the announcement of a triple threat number one contenders match for tonight featuring: Batista, John "Bradshaw" Layfield and John Cena. King: Wow, I still can't believe that Bischoff is the interim General Manager of Raw. Not only that tonight we will have a number one contenders match for the World Heavyweight Championship at the Great American Bash! Cole: I wonder how Edge will react to that news on Smackdown this Friday night but still I can't wait to see the triple threat tonight. Who do you think will win King? King: I've got to go with John Cena, he was so close at Night of Champions and I think he has what it takes to get a World Championship back to Raw! Cole: I've got to agree with you King, even though Batista will be trying to get another shot at Edge, I see John Cena getting the win here tonight. Break When we come back from the break Eric Bischoff is in the ring with a microphone, it looks like he has another announcement. Bischoff: At the top of the show I mentioned that I had brain stormed a few ideas to help shoot Raw back up to it's greatest heights. See I looked through the roster and highlighted the areas that I think are lacking and I had a huge black circle around one area: the Womens division. Right now it's a joke, I look at ever other wrestling promotion and they have a strong Womens division. So I decided to sign some new talent to help get the division up and running, not just with bimbo "divas" but skilled workers that young girls can look up to. So tonight the top three new signings will face each other for the chance to face Mickie James next week on Raw. Mickie James comes to ringside to be guest commentator for this matchup. (which makes Kings day! :p ) Allison Danger vs. Daizee Haze vs. Lacey This match was a hard hitting affair which is rarely seen in the WWE womens divison. Allison Danger takes the early control over powering the two smaller women and using some good technical moves which surprised the crowd. Soon though Lacey and Daizee decided to team up to take Danger out of the match up before squaring up against each other. Lacey brawls her way to control hitting some good lefts and rights on Haze before getting a two count of a Russian leg sweep. By this time Allison Danger is back in the ring, she takes Lacey and throws her out of the ring and turns to get a cheap pin on Daizee but instead is hit with the "Mind Trip" 1...2...3. Daizee Haizee picks up the win in 7:43 after a good contest. Your Winner: Daizee Haze Match Rating: D After the match, Mickie James enters the ring and offers a hand to Daizee...which is accepted. A video piece airs, reviewing Edge's taunt last week on Raw and Batista interfering in Edge's match on Smackdown before finishing up with highlights of Eric Bischoff's announcement of the number one contenders match tonight. Break Kane vs. Charlie Haas & Matt Striker Kane came out breathing fire during his entrance, which was a sign of things to come. The Big Red Machine comes off strong against Haas and Striker never letting either get in any offence. Kane used this match to make a point that he should be in the title reckoning, double chokeslamming his opponents before hitting Matt Striker with the Tombstone for the 1...2...3 in 4:54. Your Winner: Kane Match Rating: C Post match Kane isn't finished yet, he gives Charlie Haas a Tombstone before punching a few referees who had come to ringside. The Big Red Machine then leaves the ring and heads backstage pushing security and road agents out of the way. When the camera catches up to him, Kane is Tombstoning Jamie Noble and generally creating anarchy in the backstage area. The cameras then head back to the announcers table were Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler begin promoting the next match up: Chris Jericho & Lance Cade vs. Shawn Michaels & Paul London. Break Chris Jericho & Lance Cade vs. Shawn Michaels & Paul London Once Jericho sees that HBK intends to start this match he orders Lance Cade to begin the match for his team. He soon regrets that decision as Michaels looks good in the ring showing the "showstopper" of old, dominating his former student Cade and frustrating Jericho in the process. Eventually Shawn makes the tag to Paul London and the match evens out with both HBK students performing well with London getting a looonnggg two count via a Hurricanrana and Cade hitting a strong Lariat for a two count. After the near fall Lance tags Jericho in and Y2J begins working London over in preparation for the Walls of Jericho. Six minutes in Jericho looks like he is going for the Walls, but at the last minute has second thoughts and tags in Cade to punish London some more. Unfortunately it doesn't go to plan with Paul London able to make a desperation tag to HBK who then clears house hitting the Atomic Drop on Cade before throwing Y2J over the ropes. Michaels then tunes up the band giving Lance Cade a taste of Sweet Chin Music for the 1...2...3 in 8:01. Your Winners: Shawn Michaels & Paul London Match Rating: B- After the match HBK and London are celebrating in the ring when they are cheap shotted by the losers Y2J and Lance Cade. Jericho puts Michaels in the Walls of Jericho maintaining the pressure on HBK's injury prone back. Cade hits his signature spinebuster slam on London before adding to the beating by putting the former Tag Champion in a Texas Cloverleaf. Break Paul Burchill vs. CM Punk Paul Burchill asked for this match after last weeks mixed tag match which he feels was unfair (because he lost!). The big Englishman is impressive in the early going hitting some good power moves on Punk, getting a few near falls before making the mistake of going to the top rope too early. The Straight Edge Superstar was able to roll out of the way of Burchill's attempted splash and took control from that point on trying to continue the impressive form he has been on since being drafted to Raw. CM Punk's rapid MMA style offence gets the better of Burchill in the end and the "Money in the Bank" holder gets the victory via the Go to Sleep in 7:49 to end an impressive match. Your Winner: CM Punk Match Rating: B Highlights of Eric Bischoff earlier comments play hyping up the next match, pointing out that it is for the chance to face Edge at the Great American Bash. We again flash back to the close of last weeks Raw and Edge's insulting comments before repeating Jerry Lawler's comments from the start of last weeks Raw:
King: That's right Cole, Raw feels naked without a World Champion!
Batista vs. John "Bradshaw" Layfield vs. John Cena This match starts off with a bang as all three competitors start brawling from the get go showing how much this match means to them. Soon thought the action settles down as Batista and Cena work together to double team JBL tossing him over the ropes before going mano e mano. Although mostly even the middle of the match saw Cena impress the most with some good offensive moves on "The Animal" even getting a near fall after the Protoplex. However when the "Doctor of Thugonomics" goes for the Five Knuckle Shuffle he is hit with the Clothesline from Hell on the rebound. JBL then takes charge using his old school brawling style to keep Batista from being able to mount any offence. It is only when the "Wall Street Wizz" gets too c0cky that the "Animal" is able to get a good run of offence in, hitting a DDT, Elbow drop combination for a two count before putting JBL in a sleeper which is quickly broken up by a recovering John Cena. The "Doctor" then picks JBL up for the FU but is chop blocked by Batista, who quickly hits the Spinebuster on Cena before doing his Warrior like shake of the ropes. JBL gets to his feet....but gets caught by Batista who delivers the "Batista Bomb" on JBL: Cole: Batista Bomb on JBL! The Animal is looking like he is going to win. King: Hold on Cole, Cena is getting up. Cole: batista has seen him.....Spear! Batista hits the Spear on John Cena. After Batista hits the spear on Cena he goes for the pin cover on JBL 1...2...3! Batista is the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Title! The match ending after 12:05, and due to a special dispensation from the WWE board Batista gets one last shot at Edge for the title at The Great American Bash. Your Winner: Batista Match Rating: B+ Post match Batista celebrates with a primal roar before motioning that the title belt will soon be around his waist as Raw goes off the air with excitement in the air! Joey Styles: Hello everybody and welcome to another edition of ECW on Sci Fi, I'm Joey styles sitting in for an injured Mike Adamle alongside a former ECW champion and future hall of famer Tazz! Tazz: Wow, thanks Joey. What a rocket buster we have tonight! Big Show is teaming with the Hardys against the ECW champion Mark Henry, former ECW champion Chavo Guerrero and a future ECW champion Elijah Burke. Styles: Not to mention another chapter in the growing feud between Finlay and the WWE Tag Team champions John Morrison and The Miz. With the Fighting Irishman up against John Morrison... "Well it's the Big Show" Styles: It sure is the Big Show and if you've read the news on WWE.com you'll know that Big Show is now officially an ECW superstar again. With Theodore Long agreeing to a trade with Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero. Tazz: That's right Joey and all we had to do was allow a Smackdown superstar get a shot at Matt Hardy's United States title at the Great American Bash. Styles: It makes you think that it was just so Edge wouldn't have to face Big Show for his World Heavyweight title anytime soon. Tazz: I'd say that is the real reason Joey. By this time the Big Show has made his way into the ring and is about to use the microphone. Show: Last week on ECW I didn't get much of a chance to make an impression on Mark Henry. I wanted to show the new champ what a "Big Angry Giant" can do to the "World's Strongest Man". This week I get another chance but only in a six man tag match which won't really prove anything. So I'm taking this time tonight to challenge the ECW Champion to a match at the Great American Bash and if he has any guts he will accept. If Mark Henry doesn't then he is going to make this Giant very angry and I'll tell you now, You won't like me when I'm angry! Styles: Well, Big Show throwing the gauntlet down to ECW Champion Mark Henry with that challenge. Tazz: If the Mizark accepts we're going to have a gigantic tussle at the Bash, I can't wait! Styles: Mizark?? Break Jaden Jeter vs. Evan Bourne This match was part of the new talent drive from ECW General Manager Theodore Long with Jeter being billed as the "new talent". Both guys were impressive and were allowed to showcase some great moves but the crowd wasn't really into the match apart from the final minutes. After a hurricanrana Bourne attempted a Shooting Star Press but ended up eating canvass as Jeter was able to roll out of the way, when Bourne got back up he was hit with the Genesis Kick from Jeter which was enough to get the three count after 4:57. Your Winner: Jaden Jeter Match Rating: D- We then focus on our commentators, as Joey Styles has some news. Styles: Earlier tonight we saw the Big Show come out and challenge Mark Henry for the ECW championship at the Great American Bash. I can tell you now the challenge has been accepted by Mark Henry and approved by our General Manager Theodore Long. Tazz: That's great news Joey, what a great match to showcase ECW at the Bash! Styles and Tazz are interrupted by the music of Tommy Dreamer as the "Innovator of Violence" makes his way to the ring. Dreamer: I've been told to come out here and apologise for my attack on Mike Adamle last week. Theodore Long claims that I had no right to strike an announcer who is just "doing his job", that I should of just left after my heartfelt speech. Well Teddy, thats not how things happened in the old ECW and as you know I'm an original. For those of you who missed it, I had the production boys queue the replay:
Dreamer: This weekend I didn't have anything to do, so I was watching some old ECW tapes and it made me feel sick. No, it wasn't watching the tapes that made me sick it was realising what ECW has become.....a bastardised version of the WWE. A place to train their rookies before sending them on to the bigger brands if they are successful. ECW has become a place where Hardcore is about as foreign as Armando Estrada's accent, on top of that only three other ECW originals still wrestle here....which brings me to you (Dreamer points at Mike Adamle). Tazz: Looks like your in trouble Mike! Adamle: What did I do? Dreamer: Every time I watch ECW, whether on tape or on a monitor in the back, I have to listen to a man who has no clue about wrestling and single handedly ruins the broadcasts. Adamle: That's a bit unfair. Dreamer: Mike, I'd like you to come into the ring and defend yourself here. Don't be shy, grab a mic and come up here. Although hesitant at first Adamle complies with Dreamer walking into the ring. Dreamer: I have to say that I don't personally hold it against you, but you are everything that is wrong with the current ECW. Adamle: What? How can you say that? Dreamer: How can I say that? Easy, you replaced the voice of ECW, taking away one of the last remaining pieces of the original crew. You are Vince McMahon's lackey, a WWE man through and through and he placed you in his WWE-CW. Adamle: I'm just doing my job. Dreamer: **Mocking Adamle** "I'm just doing my job". You may be doing your job but... Dreamer drops his mic and smacks Adamle over the head with the Singapore cane, before hitting him a few more times. Tommy then picks his microphone back up. Dreamer: ... and I'm just doing mine.
Dreamer continuing: Now another person who makes me sick is a man who should have some idea on how ECW should be run. He is one of our backstage assistants and a former ECW wrestler, his job is to help our General Manager in assigning matches. The man I'm talking about is none other than the "American Dweem" Dusty Whodes. I'd like the fat man to come out here now so I can can him in person. Tommy doesn't have to wait long as the "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes makes his way down to the ring looking very unhappy. Dreamer: Glad you could be here Dusty, I ju.. Dusty: Now hold on there just a minute Mr. Dreamer, I'm not going to yet you run your mouth about me or anybody else in the current ECW. You have to respect the fact that the WWE owns ECW now and the McMahon family have a right to promote it as they wish. I know that you love the old ECW and I can tell you that the American Dream also has a fondness for it, but you have to realise Mr. Dreamer that it is gone. It's never gonna be like that again and you just have to accept that fact, so I suggest that you apologise and enjoy ECW for what it was and what it is now. Dreamer: Good old ass kissing Dusty, **mocks Rhodes** "Dah McMahon family have a wight to pwomote it as thwey wish". See comments like that is why I will never apologise for anything I do. Let me ask you this, How much blood and sweat has Mr. McMahon lost in ECW? How many broken bones and torn muscles? All McMahon is doing is using the name of ECW to promote a successful show to develop future WWE superstars. Well, I'm taking it back! The "Tuesday Night Delight" comes out strong and controls the early going, looking to make Finlay pay for jumping him. The "Fighting Irishman" was surprised by Morrison's tenacity which kept Finlay on the defensive for the early part of the match. However Finlay's experience allows him to gain the advantage and control Morrison with some good technical wrestling. Finlay continues his impressive showing by hitting a suplex, a leg drop and an atomic drop. It looked like the Irishman would gain the victory after Finlay set Morrison up in the Celtic Cross, however Morrison breaks free and quickly rolls up the Irishman pulling his feet on the ropes and pulling the tights for good measure, 1...2...3! Big Show moves his attention to the ring, where Matt Hardy is on a bit of a comeback, amazingly hitting the side effect on Mark Henry. Styles: Big Show now getting into the ring. Wait a minute... Tazz: Show's grabbed Matt Hardy by the throat! Styles: Chokeslam! Big Show has just hit the Showstopper on Matt Hardy! After Big Show had chokeslammed his own tag partner the referee called for the bell, throwing the match out. It was a wise decision as chaos descended on the ring with Chavo and Bam trying to get revenge on the Big Show before being thrown over the top rope by the giant. Big Show and Mark Henry then began to trade punches as Tommy Dreamer ran down to the ring, chair in hand. #CRACK# Dreamer smashes Big Show, before giving Mark Henry the same treatment. When the Hardys were in the ring against Burke & Guerrero the match was even and exciting providing a good contest for the fans. The match slows down when Mark Henry gets in the ring and begins to dominate Jeff Hardy, slamming him to the mat countless times with various power moves. The match reached it's peak after Jeff was able to tag in the Big Show and the match turned into a clash of titans. Henry tried clotheslining Big Show but barely moved him, and instead decided to concentrate on working over the Show's body. Big Show however had no intention of letting Henry get his way, overpowering nearly every offensive attempt from the ECW Champion. Big Show was about to hit the Showstopper on Henry until... Styles: Not again, Team ECW is heading to ringside!! #CRACK!# RVD takes out Matt Hardy with a hard chairshot #BANG!# Mercury takes out Jeff Hardy, while Tommy Dreamer and Steven Richards took out Burke and Chavo with Cane shots to the head. Tazz: Looks like Steven Richards has joined the Team ECW revolution! As the referee threw out the match Big Show and Henry were surrounded in the ring by the four members of Team ECW. The two soon to be opponents decided to fight together with Big Show taking out Mercury with his trademark chair-punch and Henry takes out Richards with a spinebuster. The numbers game however made it to much with Dreamer and RVD able to beat down on ECW's two largest superstars, RVD flooring Henry with the Van Daminator and both he and Dreamer worked together with the recovering Mercury and Richards to take out the Big Show and end ECW triumphantly celebrating in the ring while six of the best WWE superstars were left laying. WWE Wag of the Finger: ECW: Now I used to enjoy watching the old ECW back in the day, you know before I made my first million but I have to take issue with the land of extreme. Who really buys Tommy Dreamer, Stevie Richards et al going crazy and dominating the show? Maybe in 95 or even 98 but not now, and Nation...it gets worse: rumour has it that Little Guido aka Nunzio will be joining this "Team ECW". Shame, Shame, Shame it's a definite wag o the finger. Until next time, your partner in truthiness: Stephen Colbert. --
