WWF 1992 - Time for changes?

Recommended Posts

Tuesday of week 1, January 1992 Something out of the ordinary is happening in the World Wrestling Federation. That statement would of course hold true any day of the week, but currently there is really something big going on. Multiple anonymous sources claim that Pat Patterson has been replaced as head of the creative department. It is also said that his successor has been given more or less free hands in running the promotion. The main task at hand has to be to solidify WWF's position as market leader. Wrestlers are currently said to be reluctant to sign exclusive contracts with the federation, and CEO Vincent K. McMahon has to see that as a problem. In the near future, a new World Heavyweight Champion will also need to be crowned, since the championship was controversially vacated in early December. The wrestling world will watch that process very carefully. --- In related news, the WWF has today released 20 year old wrestler Louie Spicolli from his contract. No reason was officially given, but rumor has it the release came only days after every employee was tested for illegal substances. Thursday Earlier today, the World Wrestling Federation announced the appointment of J.J. Dillon to Executive Vice President. Dillon will back President Tunney up, and have full authority in dealing with issues regarding talent and events. Dillon, 49, is best known to the wrestling community as the brain behind the notorious "Four Horsemen". He is looking forward to his new assignment, and promises to make his presence known.
Solid first show man. So what happened with the title...why is it vacant?
Thanks. I will do my best to improve though. I have a feeling B+ cards are required in the long run... The title is vacant when the 1992 mod begins. Hulk Hogan was stripped of it on the December 7 episode of WWF Superstars. The reason was the controversy surrounding his win on Tuesday in Texas (Hogan blinded The Undertaker by throwing ashes from the urn into his eyes), along with the fact that The Undertaker's win at Survivor Series about a week earlier was also tainted (interference by Ric Flair).

The title situation in the World Wrestling Federation The WWF currently recognizes five regular championships. This is the current situation for each of them.
World Heavyweight Title Vacant The most prestigious championship of the promotion has been vacant for a month now, ever since Hulk Hogan was stripped of it days after defeating The Undertaker at ’Tuesday in Texas’. WWF President Jack Tunney has announced that the title will be awarded to the winner of the Royal Rumble match, coming up in less than three weeks. Speculation on who will win the Rumble – and the World Heavyweight Championship – is running wild. Here are the top 5 candidates according to the talk of the town: 1. Hulk Hogan. The Hulkster feels that he should still be the champion, and will be on fire in the Rumble. He has won the last two Royal Rumble matches and really, you other 29 guys, Whachya gonna do, brothers, when Hulkamania runs wild on you?! 2. ’Nature Boy’ Ric Flair. He has cost Hogan the gold once, and will stop at nothing to do it again. Only this time he wants the title belt for himself. Has the stamina, resilience and ability to go a long way. 3. The Undertaker. The walking deadman has tasted championship gold, and he wants more. It is hard to think of a wrestler better fit for a Royal Rumble than The Undertaker. Regardless of entry position, The Undertaker will go a long way this year. 4. ’Macho Man’ Randy Savage. Savage is never far from the gold. And he surely has what it takes to bring it home, but the competition is stiff. 5. Andre the Giant. The outsider of the bunch. Andre is not young anymore, and his massive body is not what it used to be, but in the Royal Rumble, his size advantage can not be disregarded. If he has luck with the draw, it is hard to see who would eliminate the Eigth Wonder of the World. Other possibilities: The Ultimate Warrior – can anything stop the cosmic power flowing through his veins? Bret ’Hitman’ Hart – will he become a double title holder? Jake ’The Snake’ Roberts – is 1992 the year of the snake? ’Million Dollar Man’ Ted DiBiase – everybody’s got a price for the Million Dollar Man, but can he buy his way through 29 other wrestlers? Sid Vicious – can this monster of a man be stopped from grabbing the gold?

World Tag Team Titles The Legion of Doom Animal and Hawk have held on to the titles since August. Nothing indicates that they are about to let go of them. The competition is stiff. Currently the Nasty Boys (Jerry Saggs and Brian Knobbs) have to be considered #1 contenders, but there are others waiting around the corner. The Natural Disasters (Earthquake and Typhoon), The Bushwhackers, The Barbarian & Haku, The New Hart Foundation (’The Rocket’ Owen Hart and Jim ’The Anvil’ Neidhart) to name but a few. And new tag teams seem to form every week.

Intercontinental Title Bret ’Hitman’ Hart It seems like everyone wants a shot at The Hitman these days. Shawn Michaels has been named #1 contender, but if he fails to capitalize dozens of others are waiting in line. Dino Bravo, Tatanka, Rick Martel, Mr Perfect, Kerry Von Erich, The Mountie, Big Bossman, Honky Tonk Man, Jim Duggan, Davey Boy Smith could all see themselves with the Intercontinental belt around their waist.

American Title Vacant The American Title tournament is underway. Big Bully Busick, ’El Matador’ Tito Santana, Papa Shango and Virgil have reached the semi-finals. One of them will be the first ever American champion.

Ladies’ Title Vacant Rumor has it the Ladies’ title will be awarded to the winner of a ”Ladies Rumble” including American as well as Japanese competitors, but no official word on this has been given yet.
