SWF: Generation Supreme
Well BP42, you keep kicking ass. I have given up trying to catch up (57 pages is no picnic), but when I do pop in to read some of the updates they never fail to impress. The latest Avatar piece is exceptional, even if I am kind of rooting for Keith. I would even say that the fact that he's champ, and the kids are going for the tag belt elsewhere just means that 1) they have exceptional genes and 2)the old man can still go. And I guess 3) maybe they want to get the belt on Hawkins (or someone else) without them having to fight Cornell. Kind of like Big Show taking the belt off Lesnar so that Angle could get it the next month, leaving Lesnar vs Angle for a bigger moment. Then again, it's the AI, so who knows where it will go. But the scene of watching the PPV was great. I could imagine reading that in a book or something.
Why thanks you kind sir. I am impressed that you even tried to go back and read through it all. There is a lot at this point. I think some of the early stuff was kinda meh - I actually find it tough to go back and read through some of the first few shows I posted, just because I think I've come so far in terms of writing style and such... Glad you enjoyed the last Random Thoughts piece. They are always fun to write. I do always find it a bit amusing that they tend to be the most popular and enjoyed aspect of the diary, as they are the least planned and considered. The ideas are pretty easy to come by, it seems, and it usually doesn't take me long to flesh it out into a short piece. Wrote that one while watching Raw. Worth pointing out that Avatar's take on the win by Keith is not necessarily mine... Even though its just an AI decision, I love the belt going to old Sam....

Flex Garcia vs Angry Gilmore Glorified Squash. Gino Montero vs Enforcer Roberts Losing to rookies is what guys like Roberts do best. Payne vs Robbie Retro Could'nt see Retro pulling this one out. Giedroyc vs Joss Thompson Won't be an easy win, but Geidroyc gets this one. Steven Parker vs Antonio Marquez for the SWF North American Championship An easy enough defense..matching him against the members of the Four Kings, I see. Champion vs. Champion match with Newton a possibility? Darryl Devine vs Remo Another delay on Devine's road to superstardom. Out of curiosity, is Devine still face? Ace Newton vs Sean McFly What, no one else wanted to job to him? ;)

..you know what, I figure there has to be an upset in there, somewhere. No real chance it's Payne getting upset here, doubt it'd be Gilmore, but there may be one..I'd think the most likely would be Geidroyc. Have to wait and see..

Out of this card, the one most likely to go either way is the Roberts-Montero match (established veteran vs relative new comer on the rise).

Ace Newton vs Sean McFly What, no one else wanted to job to him? ;)
Parker is part of Remember Tomorrow, DuBois' stable... I know, there are a lot to keep straight. Its a monster roster. But a Diablos feud with the Kings is a definite possibility. Devine is still a face. He's kinda turned tweener a bit with his treatment of the lovely Ms. Potter of late, but he has yet to actually turn. I try to keep the front page updated with the dispositions, overness, tag experience, etc. Makes for an easy reference. As for McFly, there were a ton of options for him to re-debut against. Newton was chosen because he'll put on a good match with the American Tiger, but moreso becaue it works in storyline terms. Both now and down the road...
Flex is one of those guys that has potential to be a star but never seems to get pushed...so yeah glorified squash Devine's not at the level yet to de-rail someone like Remo, to be fair few people are going to be get the better of Remo right now.
Yeah, Mr. Flex is a guy who I honestly dropped the ball on. A solid and Entertaining worker who has just kinda floated. At least I didn't job him below the midcard.... Ah well, he is only 33 years old, so he's still got time left. The tag team with Roberts could have some legs, if the old men decides to stick around for awhile. I think I need to find them a manager or valet, though. And you are correct on Remo... Thought Money could get the better of him... Maybe... Dun dun dun...
..you know what, I figure there has to be an upset in there, somewhere. That's a big reason (plus laziness) that I don't score the predictions... I know that everyone gets 80% or higher correct, but I don't need to see that... It might spur me to change my style and I like my style... A lot of matches tend to be put together for storyline purposes, with the outcome also serving storyline purposes. If there is an upset, its also going to be for storyline purposes. So I'm not going to job Rich Money to Randy Bumfhole (for random example), even just by disqualification or something, unless there is a significant payoff. I just don't envision the SWF as a truly competitive promotion where "anyone can win any match" like some promotion would be. I think the fans would actually appreciate the relative predictability of the matches, because its the stories and drama they are tuning in for as much as the actual in-ring stuff. And TK, it scares me sometimes (in a good way) how much you recognize my style. Its not just getting the picks right, but often the logic behind the match as well.

The fans do love their revolutionaries. Marqeuz carries his SWF North American championship belt, but he does in a very casual manner. In the ring, Marquez and Montero remind their fans that the revolution won't end just because Marquez has some gold, ese. The revolution must continue, for there is no other way that men like Meester Eisen will learn. La Revolución del Diablo is about showing the capitalist pigs that their greed can only lead them to an empty and soulless old age. They have to be shown that people cannot be treated like a commodity, homes, and that possessions are just objects. To emphasize the point, a live feed is shown on the Supreme Screen of the parking lot outside the Mayor Street Arena. It shows the secure lot, where the athletes – or in this case, wrestlers – park. There are a number of regular vehicles and a few upscale ones. One sticks out. It sticks out because its a SWF Blue Bentley. It also sticks out because its covered in La Revolución del Diablo graffiti. A Mexican flag is draped across the windshield. The duo promise that Meester Eisen is going to continue to pay. Marquez then tells the fans that he wants to defend his SWF North American championship at Let the Games Begin 2008 against Marc DuBois. He wants to once again prove that he's better than the former champion, homes. He is going to prove to DuBois and everyone else that he is a Mexi-Can. The duo give the Mexi-Power salute and leave. He takes his frustrations out on Flex Garcia, dominating his fellow Canadian for most of the match. Garcia gets a bit of offense in, but not a great deal. Gilmore seems to be getting ready for his PPV match against Remo as he never gives his opponent room to breath. Gilmore gets the victory after his full sequence – Sky High Set Up, Gilmore Sky High Elbow, and then an Anger Management leg sweep. Angry Gilmore Wins at 9:54 via Pinfall Grade: B

Enforcer Roberts vs Gino Montero Gino Montero is plenty talented, but Enforcer Roberts is plenty old... err... experienced... As quick and skillful as the second generation star is, he finds himself foiled by Robert's expert grappling and limitless bag of dirty tricks. Even the presence of his Diablo partner Marquez at ringside only helps the 18-year old so much. More than twice his age, Roberts proves that sometimes experience is the deciding factor as he gets the pinfall win locking in his RCT sleeper hold. Enforcer Roberts Wins at 8:37 via Submission Grade: C
Grandmaster Bling: Grey and bushy and old, the Enforcer prevails! They are obviously engrossed in a conversation. Looking a bit uncomfortable, Retro explains to his friend that tonight, his match against Payne will be his final match on the Supreme brand. He got an offer from Phil Vibert to move to the Legends brand and he has accepted. Swoop looks stricken. Robbie quickly explains that he did ask about taking his friend with him, but they can only allow one to move at the moment, but perhaps down the road... Swoop admits that he understands... but he isn't happy about. Its not just that Robbie is his mate. Its not just that Robbie is his best mate. Its that Robbie is his only mate in the Supreme Wrestling Federation. The Aussie admits the place will get awfully lonely without any friends. With a grin, Robbie assures his friend that he's taken care of that... He gives a loud whistle and two more people enter the locker room... Jen Neptune + Kathy Neptune The lovely Neptune twins smile at the duo. They tell Swoop that Robbie has told them about his problem, and they would love to help out. They're start up Team Neptune and would love for him to join. Swoop eagerly agrees, then asks who else will be on the team. The twins explain that they want only talented young wrestlers who are fun and exciting. So Swoop will be joined by... Kirk Jameson Jameson walks in and greets both Robbie and Swoop with his amusing Southy accent. Swoop greets him back in his amusing Aussie accent. There are smiles and nods all around the room. Then Robbie jumps up suddenly and says he has to get to the ring right away. The twins giggle as the 310-pounder shuffles out of the room in a hurry. He leaves Swoop and Kirk to their budding new bro-mance. The departing Retro seems determined to leave on a victorious note, despite the size and power of his opponent. Retro even score a near pinfall. He makes a mistake as his fun-loving nature takes over and he pulls out The Robot to the delight of the crowd while he has Payne down for a moment. The masked man quickly finds his feet and counters with a big Devil's Hammer blow to Retro's back. The youngster kicks out of the pinfall attempt after an Into the Hellfire sit-out choke-lift power bomb, but he can't repeat the feat after a Hades Bomb two-handed choke slam. Payne Wins at 8:53 via Pinfall Grade: B
Grandmaster Bling: The monster is no fan of the throwback... He wouldn't let the Robbie do his phunking thang... He runs into John McClean trying to flirt with Jen Neptune, and failing. Devine wanders up and asks about his girlfriend, Hannah Potter. Jen Neptune seems touched, while McClean ends up asking about her bust size as he gets Devine to describe her, leaving both Devine and Neptune simply shaking their heads. Moving on, Devine ends up talking to Joss Thompson and Sean Deeley again. They again assure Devine that they have never ever seen any female anywhere that comes close to matching the description her provides of his lovely young girlfriend. Lastly, he comes upon the athletic Sean McFly, stretching out in a short hallway in front of his dressing room. Jack Bruce and Chris Morrisette can be seen sitting in the locker room in the background. Devine asks McFly if he's seen Miss Potter. McFly admits he hasn't but wishes Devine good luck, saying that we need to remember the ones we love before they are lost. Shaking his head, Devine moves on to continue his search. The match is solid and open, with both men getting plenty of offense. The crowd is never that hot for the two tag team specialists, which takes away from the match a bit but they put in a solid effort. Giedroyc gets the victory after he counters Thompson's Clean Cutter spinning back bomb suplex into his own Crashing On jawbreaker. Parker looks dangerous a few times, and the crowd seems to buy that he has Marquez in trouble on a couple near-falls. But its Marquez who comes out of the match looking good, once again showing off his dynamic style and fast pace. Parker struggles to keep up at times, but he uses a few dirty tricks to try to keep pace. It isn't enough, and he ends up submitting to the Champagne Breakfast, the same as his tag team partner did a week before. They start out by posing with their shiny new belts and showing off the latest designs for the Sin Inc T-shirt line. Then they bring out their guest for the week... Dawn the Cheerleader. The sexy manager of Valiant & Giedroyc does not seem pleased to be on the show. Especially when Sexy and McClean pepper with questions about how does it feel to help her tag team cheat and whether she puts out on the first date. Rather than answer their badgering question, she counters by asking when Valiant & Giedroyc will get a shot at their belts. Sexy says that they will defend their belts for the first time at the Let the Games begin pay per view. Who that will be will be determined next week. Valiant & Giedroyc will have to get past The New Wave. The winners will get a shot at the pay per view. When Dawn the Cheerleader why they don't just defend the belts next week in another three-way tag match, McClean says he already has a date for next week... against a former champion... Before she leaves the set, clearly exasperated on the duo's leering and frat-boy behavior, Dawn tells them that she doesn't put out until the third date...and neither of them would get a first date anyway... Grade: B+

Remo vs Darryl Devine Devine seems pretty distraught when he comes out to the ring without his girlfriend slash manager. Once the match starts, he doesn't get much chance to worry further as Remo takes the match to Devine. Its everything he can do just to keep from being completely overwhelmed by the power and battering of The Alpha Dog. Devine does get a chance to show off his skills. He tires to tie Remo up, but that fails as it usually does as the 6'8”, 305-pounder simply powers out of every hold attempt. By the end of the match, he's worn Devine down and ragdolls him a bit before a nailing him with The Destroyer and getting the pin. Remo Wins at 8:34 via Pinfall Grade: B
Peter Michaels: Remo with another win. The Alpha Dog has been on a roll lately... He's dressed in casual clothes, tasteful and clearly expensive designer threads. He mentions that he will be joined shortly by Remo. Money says that he doesn't often find himself in agreement with Chris Morrisette. But after Morrisette's rant last week, Hard Cash agrees completely. As a veteran who has put in his time in the business, Money is concerned about the sense of entittlement that many of the young workers have somehow developed. Perhaps its because they joined the Supreme Wrestling Federation at a young age, before they had put in their time with smaller promotions as so many of the stars of the SWF did first. Not every wrestler succumbs to the temptation of that feeling of entitlement, though. Remo was just 19 when he joined the SWF, and he stayed a humble kid until he proved he could hang with the best. And Money has taken Ace Newton under his wing to ensure that he doesn't develop that problem. But Rich Money is just one man, and he can't mentor every youngster in the entire Supreme Wrestling Federation... thought it might make for a better world if he did... Remo comes hustling onto the set, wearing his ring gear and sweat from his match against Devine. He complains that they need to time these segments better as he takes a seat on the leather chair next to his friend's. The Alpha Dog asks if Rich Money has anything to say about his upcoming match with Sean McFly and Money simply shakes his head. Remo says he has a few things to say about Angry Gilmore... Remo promises to make Gilmore pay for being so presumptuous as to believe he can hang with the big dogs. Gilmore got a lesson before. This time, he's going to get a lesson he won't forget. That he won't be able to forget. Remo says that Gilmore might want to consider leaving the old lady at home, so she doesn't have to witness the beating that Remo is going to deliver. He still moves around the ring with the endless grace of a feline, transitioning effortlessly between different styles of attack. Its also clear that Newton is up for this one, putting in the performance of his young career. He attacks vigorously and never backs down. He also refrains from using the bag of dirty tricks that he's learned from Rich Money in recent months. As always, The American Tiger tells a perfect story in the ring. The story of this match is the young lion taking on the experienced veteran but falling short after a good battle. Newton pushes McFly hard, and matches McFly's on several spots. The veteran gets a roar when he shows off his athleticism by making it up to the top with a single leap, then delivers a McFly Snap Diving Leg Drop off the top rope. A short time later, Newton also goes up to the top rope in the same manner, instead dropping a top rope splash. There is a late sequence where the duo square off in the center of the ring and trade blows, with McFly getting the better of it with a McFly chop. The end sequence is Newton trying twice for his Aces High Go-2-Sleep finisher and getting McFly up both times, but the veteran finding a way out each time. The crowd goes insane when McFly gets the youngster up for his McFly Delayed Suplex and holds him veterical for a good 20 seconds before finishing the suplex. A Delorean Driver gets McFly the win after a very good match. He remains at ringside. McFly seems like he's just going to leave, but the cheering crowd leads to him playing to the crowd a bit, celebrating his return. The cheers get louder, and since the two-time SWF World Heavyweight champion is clearly enjoying himself, he takes his time with it. Newton stays outside the ring, glaring at McFly. This continues for several minutes until the situation is interrupted by music. Numb by Jay-Z & Linkin Park. Rich Money's music. The current SWF World Heavyweight champion comes storming through the Supreme Gate. Hard Cash looks severely agited and he already has a microhpone as he stomps down the ramp to the ringside. The champ is wearing his expensive and stylish street clothes, followed by Remo who is still in his ring gear. Money slides into the ring, while Remo remains outside the ring with Newton. McFly tenses as his opponent for the forthcoming pay per view squares up to him. The crowd is quiet and tense. Everyone is expecting another attack of some sort. But Rich Money is making his attack with words on this night... The champ doesn't even wait for the music to be cut before he starts. He begins by yelling for the d*mned music to stop, then he askes McFly what the hell he's doing. Without a microphone, McFly tries to expalin directly to Money, but he is quickly cut off. Money tells McFly - and the fans - that he's of the opinion that most of the Gernation Supreme punks don't deserve to be treated with respect. Because most of them are demanding to be treated like stars before they've earned. You have to earn respect. And no matter how much the likes of the Bumfholes or even DuBois talk, they simply have not earned it yet. They will get Rich Money's respect when they have proven themselves in the ring and have earned it... but not before that. But not every Generation Surpeme youngster is a punk who does nothing but talk. Money says he took Ace Newton under his wing precisely because he wasn't like that. He wanted to earn everyone's respect. He wanted to accomplish great things, and was more concerned about working towards those things than just talking. He says that the whole reason that Newton asked to be the first to face the mighty Sean McFly on his return to the Supreme Wrestling Federation was because Newton grew up watching McFly. No, more than watching... Idolizing. Ace showed the foritutde to step up and challenge his idol to a match. He did so knowing that winning a longshot. But the the youngster came out here and did his best. He gave McFly a helluva match. By far the best match Newton has ever had... And what does McFly do response? Money let's the question hang for a long moment... Then Hard Cash explains that after McFly just beat a 21- year old kid.... A 21-year old kid who grew up idolizing the great Sean McFly... A 21-year old who just had the great match of his young career... A kid who wrestled with intensity and honor... What does McFly do? Does he offer congradulations to the kid? Shake his hand? No, he celebrates to the fans like he just won a title belt. No acknowledgement for his opponent. No respect. When McFly visibly realizes what Money is saying is true, he moves towards the ropes to apologize to Newton. But Hard Cash cuts him off, sayings its too late. That anything at this point would just be plastic and false. McFly seems unsure of what to do... Luckily for him, Rich Money isn't finished. The champion continues on his eloquent little rant, saying that people like McFly, Jack Bruce, Chris Morrisette, and even Christian Faith make him sick. Not because of what they are, but because of what people make them out to be. As if they are somehow better than everyone else on the roster. Better people. More admirable human beings. When they aren't. They do the same shallow and hurtful crap as everyone else. But no one wants to admit it. I might be a magnificent b*stard, Money says, but at least I can admit that I'm a b*stard. The champion starts to climb out of the ring but stops. He dramatically looks up at the top of the ramp, where two men stand. Chris Morrisette + Jack Bruce The duo have been watching the proceedings for several minutes, out there to make sure the Alpha Dog trio don't try anything. Money looks at the duo across the arena, then back at McFly. The champion tells his rival that at least Rich Money fights his own battles. Then Money drops the microphone and climbs out of the ring. Money walks up the ramp shoulder-to-shoulder with Remo and Newton. The show fades on the trio walking past Morrisette and Bruce, with McFly watching in silence from the ring.
Another great show, Bigpapa42. That closing segment was brilliantly written. And honestly, it made me think that you're about to pull the trigger on a Money face turn, but surely not!? Anyway, excellent show.
Thanks. And no, there's no face turn for Money coming any time soon... The last segment was meant to show how manipulative Money can be. He can make anyone doubt themselves. He takes joy in pointing out the fallibility of the fans' heroes. The idea was that McFly wasn't intentionally being disrespectful to his opponent - he just got caught with the crowd who loves that he's back. But its the kind of thing that Money can pick up on and twist. And Money certain isn't above making up something like the whole "Newton idolized McFly" bit. Its also intended to be another small step towards the generational battle. I've been iffy on doing this type of segment, even though I've had a few ideas for them. I just don't think it would work for the typical SWF fan. They wouldn't get the subtlety of Rich Money's manipulative nature. I think they would prefer their heels to be outright bad characters, not manipulative b*stards who enjoy pointing out the flaws of the babyfaces... especially when they is some basis for those complaints... But since this is just a diary and its really for the readers, I figured it would be fun and add a bit more to Mr. Money.
Well, it won't for the MAJORITY of SWF fans - but the "Cult" fans of the SWF will get it.
It actually reminds me of the early proto-Attitude moments where faces and heels were starting to show more moral ambiguity. But I just rewatched Wrestlemania XIV, so...

I think Stone Cold Steve Austin and the Rock were never truly full faces, and definitely not in the sense like Hulk Hogan or John Cena is. They were rude and they took "!@#$%" out of whoever they wanted. The same is for the DX, when told people to "suck it". Moral Ambiguity is something I can't see Rich Money doing, though. :P I'm sure he his character could be even more subtle, but he's the kind of charaacter where I can I see him as only being black-and-white.

I am also not trying to get a morally ambiguous tweener character. I could see that type of character being fun to do in the SWF at some point... but not yet... I have two workers who are kinda tweeners right. One is Steve Frehley, because of his perceived betrayal and the fact that he's only looking out for himself now (with Diaz, I guess). Its basically the slowest heel turn possible. The other is Darryl Devine, mainly because he's intended to be a babyface but not a particularly likeable one, in how he whines and how he treats his girlfriend. Rich Money is intended to be a full heel. He has a few anti-hero qualities, I guess, but he's not really intended to seen as admirable. He's arrogant, ruthless, manipulative, selfish, and even treacherous. He is skillful at twisting things and presenting half-truths, to serve his own purposes - which is what he was doing here by pointing out a simple error that McFly made in not acknowledging his opponet after the match. The only real admirable qualities he has is a genuine friendship with Remo (even if it does often benefit him), that he's charismatic, and the fact that he's d*mned good. He is capable of being honest, but really only when it suits him and benefits him. The mentoring of Newton is really for Money's own benefit and protection.

Yes, yes I know. I don't think Rich Money fits the "anti-hero" at all. The Current SWF isn't cut out for that. But in any case, how would a Rich Money face turn work, anyway? It's hard to see what he can do as a face. He has starting of B+ as a Face, but his gimmick stats are not so good for good face gimmicks (that do justice to Rich Money). Oh yeah, Rich Money reminds me of Ric Flair and Ted Dibiase - classic heels.

I'm guessing it would be a situation where Money is still himself, but he's just facing off against heels.

He basically stays the same, but his opponents, associates, and storylines basically end up with the fans cheering for him. But its honestly something I'd really consider unless the game pushes me to it.... and that's hopefully a long way down the road...

It took a decade plus for Flair to be a true face in the fans eye. And SWF isn't a place were heel vs. heel matchups would take place, so there really isn't a way that Rich Money would be playing the tempt face against another heel.

The Fry Report Preview
Every week on The Fry Report podcast will provide the latest information on everything Supreme. News, rumors, and interviews, all brought to you by the incomparable Duane Fry. Preview for podcast available Wednesday, Week 1, October 2008 "With less than a week to go before SWF Let the Games Begin 2008, there are plenty of questions left to be answered. Most notably, who will face Christian Faith for the SWF Supreme Championship?" "General Manager Eric Tyler has made assures to SWF management that Faith's opponent will become clear tonight on SWF Legends. There are a number of big matches booked. They could certainly go a long way to sorting out who is the top contender for the brand's top belt. An easy guess at this point is that Faith will again defend the belt on pay per view in a multiple-opponent match, like last month at Under Control." "First, the Supreme Legend will have to get past the dynamo Acid. The SWF Shooting Star champion is the latest to be pitted against the Supreme champion. Christian Faith has been very busy since winning that belt at The Supreme Challenge 28, having successfully defended it ten times so far. Can the 42-year old keep this intense pace up?" "GM Tyler has also booked three matches that he terms "test matches", where some of the top contenders for Faith's belt will be given a chance to prove themselves. Brandon James faces newcomer John Pathlow. Steve Frehley faces a stern test as he comes up against the tough Bryan Holmes. And a very intriguing match-up has Rocky Golden facing Chris Caufield in a no disqualification match. The question I ask is this - what happens if James, Frehley, and Golden all win?" "Troy Tornado finds himself in an interesting situation. He was offered an open challenge by Rocky Golden this week, and Tornado accepted. With Golden and Texas Pete already booked to wrestle, that leaves Bloodstone as the only member of the Golden Faction available... But you would think they would be a bit more open about that particular match-up. Instead, the are keeping it quiet. My sources tell me that the Faction have picked out a new member already, and this could be either a test for that potential new member or the actual debut of the new member of the Golden Faction. Either way, this one should be interesting." "Overall, we should see another great show. Offering up some of the best wrestling action in the world, SWF Legends can't be missed... only on CBA!" Just a note... I really gotta be more careful with the booking... That is very definitely a PPV caliber card for most promotions. Overusing the upper level guys, when its just not necessary. The midcard is getting ignored and without good reason. No idea why I put the Faith match on there as well, but its done now. No going back. And for the record, this isn't another A* show, unfortunately...
