Philly Power Pro Wrestling: Dangerous Dreams [C-Verse '97]

Don't rush the match for me Phantom. ;) Good stuff with Kurt and Nemesis though. Prediction Key: Joel Bryant w/ Herb Stately vs. The Hype Bryant's more over, sure. But he's on tours. Hype could use some rub, get back in the spotlight maybe. Coleman, Ferdinand & Holmes vs. The New Wave & Rick Sanders *shrug* This one could go either way. The Wave however aren't moving up the tag ranks just yet and Holmes is getting the mini-push. PPPW Tag Championship Nero's Disciples (c) w/ Professor Nero vs. Philly's Own No title change yet. Golden Age w/ Floyd Goldworthy & Helen Bach vs. Gilmore, Flash & Johnson w/ Hatoyama Tough tough tough. Real tough show to pick here, which is good. This will set up a mini-feud with, my choice, for Champ however so to me it makes a bit more sense. Chris Rockwell vs. Pistol Pete Hall Easy for me to pick. I like both guys but Rockwell needs the push into the Pride tournament.[/i[ PPPW Tri-State Championship (Submission Only Match) Brent Hill (c) vs. Horatio Dangerous w/ Jack Giedroyc vs. Human Arsenal vs. JD Morgan w/ Wanda Fish I don't think Hill will be successful in defense. Too many against him. Horatio is obviously not going to win and I see the Invasion splitting so, John Anderson is getting the dubya.

Prediction Key: Joel Bryant w/ Herb Stately vs. The Hype Joel's push relative to The Hype's makes this match a lock. The Hype's had nowhere near enough build to merit this win. Coleman, Ferdinand & Holmes vs. The New Wave & Rick Sanders The Tag Teams... this could go either way. But the third men? I cannot in good conscience vote for Sanders over Holmes, despite his sentimental value. PPPW Tag Championship Nero's Disciples (c) w/ Professor Nero vs. Philly's Own Never bet against the champs, especially when they'll cheat this egregiously. Golden Age w/ Floyd Goldworthy & Helen Bach vs. Gilmore, Flash & Johnson w/ Hatoyama Strong start for the Faces, plus Steve Flash pulls off the win in his first match. Chris Rockwell vs. Pistol Pete Hall Because this has gone on for long enough. A loss here to Rockwell would devalue him to a ludicrous extent. PPPW Tri-State Championship (Submission Only Match) Brent Hill (c) vs. Horatio Dangerous w/ Jack Giedroyc vs. Human Arsenal vs. JD Morgan w/ Wanda Fish Going in order of least likely: Horatio will never win a title. JD Morgan hasn't had enough build to claim the championship, and it would taint his reign if he won it like this. The Arsenal... I'm tempted to call him the first double champion, but I don't think you want a double champ yet. So, by process of elimination, Brent Hill takes the win!

Show'll be up sometime tomorrow. Good to see a couple of rare predictors coming in - and thanks to all those readers who voted for me in DotM, bringing me to what I'm pretty sure is a record for this diary. (Thanks to everyone who votes in the DotM regardless of who they vote for, for that matter. It makes it mean something!)

On the video screen Steve Flash is smiling, flanked by Ricky Dale Johnson and Tom Gilmore. Gilmore turns his head away from nestling against Kit Hatoyama and regards the camera. “Seems like all year,” he begins, “I've seen Charlie Thatcher and the Demon tearing up Philly Pro. You've been outsiders pretty much all that time – and while I'm all for shaking things up, tearing something down is worthwhile only if you leave enough of it to rebuild. You two have been wrecking machines. “Wrecking machines we found out not too long ago were controlled by an inside man. And it took til the start of the year for him to show his true colours, too.” He shakes his head. “No wonder his preparations have been so good, I guess. But Money – when your buddy put me in hospital a month ago, you got me way madder than you should've done. And that wasn't even your only problem.” Johnson takes it from there. “It came clear to me that yet another place I come to has a bunch of vindictive SOBs ruling the roost – which I could care less about if it didn't mean a man can't just busy himself wrasslin, he's gotta jump through hoops and run a goddamn assault course just to do what makes him money. I've had enough of that in my life for two lives, and I'm sick of it.” Steve Flash frowns. “Mostly, I'm glad to be back around here. But I'm here because even if all you see across the border is me and Tom locking up, outside the ring we're pretty good friends. And a man hears his friend is in a hospital and doesn't do anything to the guys who put him there, strikes me he ain't much of a man.” He hefts the baseball bat. “Counting backup, we're a man down tonight. And you've got my buddies scouted. Don't make me play equaliser on the cheap shots, Money.” w/ vs. Joel Bryant w/ Herb Stately vs. The Hype A hair under ten minutes in what's one of the Hype's better received matches to date. Bryant dominates in the early going, with the Hype pulling back occasionally only to be cheap-shotted back under Bryant's control. This lasts for maybe six or seven minutes, before two newcomers show up ringside. Emma and the Man Mountain watch events – and watch Stately, in particular, panic, while Joel's distracted. The Hype moves up a gear, sensing blood in the water, and nearly gets a fall with a roll-up, but Bryant's able to get his hand to the rope and Fair stops the count. Emma promptly hops up on the apron, getting Fair's attention, and Cahill smashes Bryant in the face with a huge club of a fist. The Hype capitalises with an H-Bomb, getting the pin – and his first PPV win. The Hype defeated Joel Bryant Rating: D+ Cahill gets into the ring and goes after the prone Bryant. The Hype gets in the way for a moment. “Apparently he's OK winning by interference but he ain't too happy with a beatdown,” Azaria notes sarcastically, and Cahill meets the Hype's charge with a backdrop out of the ring. Bryant subsequently receives two consecutive Cahill Crunches while Stately, despairing, looks on. “I thought he was going to help you get back in control, Herb,” Emma coos into the microphone. “Guess that's not the way to go. “Maybe you better think again?” Chase and Cahill make their way back to the locker room while Stately checks on Bryant's prone form before the HGC stalwart is stretchered out. Coleman, Ferdinand & Holmes vs. The New Wave & Rick Sanders While Coleman didn't appear to be particularly enthusiastic, with so many bodies in the ring it's harder to really say that was a key part of the match. Holmes and his fellow Japanese alumni tear into their rivals in this match with real gusto, concentrating almost entirely on a strong style assault that has the crowd wincing with each impact. Capping it off, Ferdinand suplexes Coleman onto Guide, Holmes onto Sanders, and finishes Scout off with the Butterfly Lock after eleven minutes. While it doesn't have the punch the opener had, it's not a bad performance by the standards of most of these men. After maybe thirty seconds, Eddie Chandler rounds the corner into the corridor and stops dead. “Ah,” Goldworthy smiles, straightening up. “How's your lovely lady?” he asks. Chandler, the spring in his step now utterly gone, scowls. “I'm not in the mood to be joked with.” “True,” Floyd nods. “But I think you'll find she'll be fine. Assuming, of course, that we can come to an agreement...” He opens the door behind him. “Shall we?” Frowning, Chandler steps through, and Goldworthy slips through after him. The camera follows to be met with a locked door. At a signal from Nero, Fyte buys himself a moment, readies brass knuckles, and knocks Marlowe cold, dropping for a pin as Fair misses the shot. Nero's Disciples defeated Philly's Own Rating: D+ Back in the interview area again; Rich Money beams into the camera, Demon Anger by his side. In the back of shot, Charlie Thatcher's motion is somewhere between pacing and prowling. “You know I know you, Tom,” Money begins. “I know your habits. I know your tricks. I know your weak spots. And Ricky... I know you just as well. “So do my friends. And not just that, my friend Anger beat you already, Tom. Charlie beat you too – and I've been meaning to thank you for getting him his ticket in here. Made my life a lot easier – you can't back a guarantee without an insurance policy.” Thatcher snorts amused approval. “Tonight, we're going to get you out of our way. Take the lesson we're about to beat into you and learn it – there's no reason to break all three of you if you can learn, Tom.” Anger caps off the interview with his famous primal scream. w/ Charlie Thatcher, Demon Anger & Rich Money w/ Floyd Goldworthy & Helen Bach vs. w/ Ricky Dale Johnson, Steve Flash, & Tom Gilmore w/ Kit Hatoyama Given the star power in this contest, it's surprising that it was received quite as mildly as it was – but these things happen. Ricky Dale Johnson looks like a star as his side is beset. With so many extra men, whenever Gilmore gets the upper hand Hatoyama can come under threat, derailing him, and after one particular hot tag Johnson levels Thatcher with the leaping lariat, meets a charging Anger with a military press into a slam, and only slows down when he sees Money goofing on the apron with a stetson hat, mocking him. Money pays for this, pulled into the ring and laid out with a Southern Justice onto the stetson – but Thatcher catches him with a low blow while Goldworthy distracts the ref. Steve Flash doesn't have the same problems. The warpaint runs wild, on one occasion hitting four consecutive Flash Bangs – one for Anger, one for Money, one for Goldworthy, another for Anger as he rises - But Eddie Chandler slides into the ring, a desperate expression on his face, and while Bach hassles the ref Flash eats a running powerslam from Chandler, followed by a running big boot and a hook of the tights from Thatcher to seal the win. Retreating up the aisle, Chandler repeats 'I'm sorry' over and over. They play it out the fifteen minutes Hall can manage during his recuperation, and they play off their prior matches smartly; with Rockwell having maintained staunchly that Hall can't beat him, he shows off a counter for all of Hall's usual work and the big man slides into a very convincing cagey heel – which leads to a very different flavour to this contest, allowing them to produce different flourishes. Toward the end, Rockwell cons Hall into going for the Pistol Whip Lariat, and jumps into it, grabbing, twisting, and rolling - And the end result sees Hall on the floor, the Fujiwara Armbar locked in. Even with a big man's reach, he can't get to the ropes, and finally Chris Rockwell has the victory he's been chasing for months. Morgan, Dangerous and Hill are known for their submission holds, but the Arsenal has never developed any one submission hold to that level. So when he dropkicks Hill out of a Complete Package on Dangerous and clamps the Cross-Atlantic Stretch onto a charging Morgan, the fans light up. His spinning full nelson, applied to Dangerous, sees Hill break it up with a German suplex that sends both of them flying. But for quite some time, there's always someone there to break the deadlock – in one notable case, with a King of the Hill onto Morgan's own Cross-Atlantic Stretch. It's during this match that Azaria seems to have an epiphany, coming to root for Hill despite his lack of HGC ties and starting the path that would lead to him turning into a face announcer in the near future. At the finish, Hill gets the better of Dangerous, clamping on the Complete Package. Morgan goes to break it up and finds himself getting a boot to the gut and an unceremonious Ammo Dump by the Arsenal, who turns, goes to break in – and then, suddenly, stops, watching as Dangerous taps out. Arsenal nods to himself and rolls out of the ring. Brent Hill defeated Horatio Dangerous, the Human Arsenal, and JD Morgan Rating: B- Another worthwhile PPV sees Philly Pro cement their hold on the hearts of the Evanovich Riverside – and on the fans tuning in. Next on SWF 24/7: War is a state of mind. Show Rating: C

So close to perfection. Oh well. Very good show Stranger, I'll take that shirt now =P. Going to be honest, I really am surprised to see Arsenal not win. Well... not lose outright. I guess it makes more sense for him to win the belt one on one, but I really saw Arsenal coming away with the win. Although Dangerous, predictably losing, sets up an interesting feud between the Invasion. Does this mean Giedroyc will actually do something now will be something interesting. Rockwell getting the win but Arsenal losing means one of two things in my opinion. An Arsenal/Rockwell finals at the Pride tourny and/or an Arsenal/Rockwell match for the title down the road, as I think Arsenal will beat Hill next time they fight. Eddie Chandler doing a forced turn! Totally didn't see it coming. I think this does the exact opposite of what I thought and keeps the Golden Age out of the title picture, which is a good thing in retrospect. Eddie Chandler is a great asset and I can't wait to see where he continues from here. "Injury" to Bryant is a great way to explain his absences. Better than "Well he thinks Japan is more important". It also adds more to Stately/Chase. The tag titles staying leaves sorta an intriguing route with the tag titles. There are no teams, to my recollection, in PPPW to challenge the champs now. Except the former champs, but I don't see The Punisher and McClean going for the Gold just yet. Anyways, good show. I will see this in September.

Andy would be out front all night, and the end result was that he left it with me. “If I was out there, Mike took over. If Mike or Pete saw it first, I pretty much let them run with it. Henry used to play peacemaker a lot, Jackie Marlowe could shut down a lot of brewing trouble with a word and a look – but, well... neither of them really had any effect on the real troublespots. “We had three names I used to dread hearing offstage near the end of the show. Only one of 'em was likely to be called to go out there later on during ninety-eight, and the other two – there was no reason for anyone to yell for 'em unless they'd started something. “Todd – the Hype – picked some really unwise fights. I didn't cotton much to anyone trying to use their stroke backstage, but it doesn't take much to realise that if I've given someone our top belt, I'm going to want them kept happy. “So when I go back and I find Brent sporting a black eye after Todd tagged him – and Mike tells me Todd started things and Pete and Charlie had to haul them off each other – I'm not happy. “The Dog was actrually worse, although I'm not sure whether that was 'cause I'd got used to Todd, or because he'd started listening – I couldn't swear to it this far past, but I think in ninety-eight he was only half the problem he'd been the year before. But Darryl had this machismo-off going with... Well, with anyone dumb enough to let him.” -- Mycroft Nero's eyeroll is as ostentatious as any of his preparations to cheat in the ring. “Darryl... hopefully he's not that bad these days. He tried to start a fight with the Natural the first week he was there, I remember that much... He'd buzz off early half the time, and we rewrote shows on the fly a lot in those days. I know Troy missed out on a main event a couple times thanks to Darryl. “Sure, it cost Darryl too. I've no problem with that part, though – he knew he ran the risk of missing out. But he cost Troy money. I was getting pretty regular pay talking out the guys' matches, so it didn't cost me. But I felt it was disrespectful, especially as he hadn't been the one who established the new Disciples. That was Troy and Travis, and mostly Travis early.” -- Emma Chase giggles abruptly. “Oh, I think I gave Harry nightmares,” she says. “I stand by it, though. “Girl grapplers, they have to work so damn hard to get over in the locker room. I think they actually have an easier time getting the fans to accept 'em, but the boys won't be happy until they know the girls are willing to take anything the guys have to. “That gives you a thick skin, though, right? And when they see someone like me or Nikki Kiss – or Karen, Cat Jemson, whoever you wanna name who doesn't get between the ropes – we get accepted by the boys easier. It's a different standard. Wanda never thought that was fair... I kind of agree with her. “But it means we stay shut the hell out until we actually show we can give it as well as we take it. And the only place we have to do that is in the bar after the show. “So I got Wanda pissed with me, and Helen, and Kit. And every other chick Harry signed. “I'm not saying they deserved it. I'm not saying I was right. But it happened, and I did feel I had to. “And I know it drove Harry, Mike, and Pete to distraction. I was young enough to be any of their kids...”

Maybe it's an understanding gleaned from tagging with his father, maybe the core of hook-and-shoot wrestling in both their arsenals provides the key – but this is a simply excellent opener, with Dangerous looking like a star, playing off Morgan, providing speed against his grounded technical excellence, with both men even working in an intense brawl sequence toward the end. Morgan, in a surprising moment, finishes Adrian with his father's half-nelson suplex finisher after a smidgen under ten minutes. They get a little longer to show off, and Horatio gets in more offence than his son did, but this is very much a match controlled by Steve Flash – who works in both a Southern Justice and a World Shatters in tribute to his allies before putting Dangerous away with the Flash Bang. Given the time, this contest could have developed into an epic. Steve Flash defeated Horatio Dangerous Rating: C Morgan and Fish roll back into the ring after Flash leaves, Morgan squatting over the downed Dangerous for a moment, muttering softly to himself. Dangerous says something, and Morgan turns away; Fish stops him for a moment and they have a whispered conference before Fish nods to Dangerous, who lets his head sink back to the canvas, clearly relieved despite JD's visible frustration. As a camera with a microphone gets close enough, Morgan leaves. Fish smiles slightly to Dangerous, saying “He knows it wasn't your fault you had to tap. Arsenal should've broken the pin. C'mon; it's time for dinner. We can sort this out soon...” Dangerous follows, backed by Giedroyc and Fish. The camera catches one last shot of the waiting Morgan's face, snarled up in fury as he watches them. Rich Money emerges, backed up by the Gold Guarantees, to saunter to the ring, microphone in hand. “We'll deal with a lot of the problems we've been having later,” he begins. “I want to start with the Human Arsenal. You took something from me, something I had guaranteed. And let's face it, you ain't up to the Money standard. “So here and now, buddy, I'm calling you out – and I'm warning you, sooner than later the belt is going to be around the waist of a Guaranteed man, a golden opportunity squandered. You can take your pick of the two behind me who you start with, but it starts next week.” Eraser starts to play and the Arsenal appears in the entrance, between Money's men and the way out. “No it doesn't,” Arsenal snarls. “It started last month. Our war has already seen the recon, the peace talks, the declaration, and the first battle. “Tonight, I feel like fighting the second.” Dropping the microphone, he sprints to the ring; Money bails, and Maverick and Karloff stand firm. Arsenal comes in fast, dropping both men with a shocking double clothesline. Maverick is yanked to his feet, hammerlocked, dragged to the ropes – and the Arsenal twists the ropes, tying Maverick up by both arms. By this point Karloff is back on his feet and he's in on Arsenal, catching him with a forearm to the back of the head, then another, then - A third is countered to an arm drag over the Arsenal's shoulder. Dropping a leg across Karloff's neck, the Arsenal laughs as Money scrambles clear through the crowds. Turning back to Karloff, he is yanked backward into an inverted DDT by the freed Maverick – and Karloff leaves the ring to collect a chair. Maverick and Arsenal engage in some lightning-fast hold and counter work which ends only when Arsenal 'borrows' the Flash Bang, executing it as well as Steve Flash ever has. In comes Karloff; Arsenal ducks the chair swing, gets caught with the second. Karloff opens the chair, setting it up on the outside, just next to the apron. Collecting the stunned Arsenal, he drags him onto the apron and sets up to deliver a tombstone-style piledriver from apron to the chair – but Arsenal reverses the hold, ending up in position on Karloff himself. It gets a little screwy after that – one of those moments that announce teams can bicker over exactly what happened in slo-mo replays for months. The Arsenal appears to realise what this move would mean and seems to start shifting Karloff's weight to avoid it – and John Maverick, misunderstanding his intentions, lunges for Arsenal from inside the ring. Maybe he's looking to grab him and prevent the move, as Azaria will argue in later weeks. Maybe, as Barber will hint, Maverick is sick of being trapped in the tag-team doldrums when the rest of the Golden Age is moving up. Maybe it's signs of issues, exploitable tensions, within the group. Maybe the Human Arsenal wanted to do it anyway; maybe he just overbalanced off the impact. Maybe, as many smarks speculate for years afterward, someone ****ed up. Whatever the reason, Arsenal plunges off the apron and Karloff goes with him, driven into a steel chair that buckles and collapses with the impact. And Azaria and Barber, at the time, stumble over words and then fall silent. The Arsenal is forgotten as Maverick checks on his downed ally; silence fills the stunned Grissom as, in their first outing there, Philly Pro provide a horrible spectacle that keeps viewers riveted. EMTs race out in record time and Karloff is the second man in as many shows to be stretchered out. vs. Brent Hill vs. Pistol Pete Hall The start is a little slow, a little quiet, as the audience recover from what they've seen, and these two veterans play to that, appearing shellshocked themselves, but as time ticks on they begin to pick up the pace until they're working at the intensity and style of Pete Hall's last, doomed title defence. Hall reasserts himself here, fresh off his run against Rockwell, as a 24-karat badass, overcome only by the sheer completeness of Brent's skills as a wrestler, overcome only by the fact that Brent Hill can come up with something to fight back from any situation. A step-up enzuigiri feeds into the King of the Hill at the very end and Brent scores the fall after an excellent match, the fans entirely engrossed in the contest by the end. Brent Hill defeated Pistol Pete Hall Rating: B- Hill celebrates, and Walk This Way hits. Smiling, Hill turns to face the entranceway as Chris Rockwell, SoCal Championship around his waist to a sizable pop, walks down to the ring, microphone at the ready. “It's been a while,” he says, grinning. “You've had to run off what, three title challenges?” Hill nods. “But you remember what you promised way back when, right?” Brent smiles and accepts the microphone. “I remember, Chris,” he says. “I promised you'd get a title shot against me. And now you're done with your own little quest, and before anyone puts their vote in for the shot at Pride of Philadelphia – and before someone wins that and claims their shot – I'm looking forward to it. “Come that tournament, it's the Pride of Philadelphia against the SoCal Champion, the Pride of New York, the man with two names,” which draws a laugh from the Coastal Zone regulars in the crowd, “Brent Hill against Chris Rockwell.” Rockwell grins. “One shot at the top, brother,” he replies. “Another chance to show the fans what it is to be Chris Rockwell. To show them what they can be if they try hard enough.” He offers his hand, and Brent Hill shakes it. “I don't buy it,” Azaria grumps. “One of these two is planning something...” And on that cheerful note, the broadcast ends. -- Surprising chemistry, a stellar main event, and a moment of controversy; the best TV broadcast Philly Pro had put out to date comes out of a string of luck on the outskirts of Vegas to receive their highest rating yet. Dangerous had me stay indoors for a month after that angle. Never left the house. “My second kid would never have happened if it hadn't been for spending all that time around my wife. “I was scared out my mind the whole time, though. Here we were with this thing and the old plan seemed safe. Then we needed something bigger on accounta what they'd done in the meantime. “I get asked about this a lot. I think by now I've been asked by more people than saw the damn show, to be honest. I never talk about it; but the company's dead and this thing you're doing is meant to be special, so what the hell. “Here's the answers: Yeah, it was planned. Yeah, we gimmicked the chair. Yeah, John's the safest guy I know. “Yeah, I was scared out my mind the whole time. And yeah, the couple days I spent in hospital was genuine. Concussion, a worry about my spine, I had problems with my vision for a bit... “If John had just reversed and gone for it, we'd probably have been fine. But I think John was worried about turning himself right back heel about two weeks after he beat up Money, so we worked out the thing with Mav, and I had to be out of perfect position when Mav went for him, and... “I've never watched it. My wife passed out when she saw it and she made me promise, and...” He waves a hand. “I know when John found out I'd actually gone to hospital he watched the tape over and over, looking for... I don't know what, some way we could've done it with no risk, or something that said 'this has gone wrong' that he could point to, something he could do better. “He says – and if you air that bit, you might wanna look for this – he says that from the time I set the chair up to just before he reverses and you can't see me anymore you can see me looking like I'm about to **** myself.” He nods. “I probably was. “We were headline news for about five days. And then one of the others took over...” -- Archive footage once again, a FOOTAGE COURTESY OF NOTBPW stamp at the bottom, anchored by the the seasoned, experienced tones of Tommy London and Dan Stone Sr. In the ring, two Philly Pro talents are active; Steve Flash and Dog Fyte, many years before the Stones repackaged him as Omar Brown. Dog Fyte goes for the second-rope spear called the Beware of the Dog, but Flash leapfrogs the dive, immediately attempting to capitalise with an STF. The Dog twists to the ropes and the hold's broken; as Flash's attention is given to referee Matthew White, the Dog punches him in the gut, doubling him over. Dog Fyte's next move is to set up for the backbreaker/T-Bone suplex combo he uses as a finisher, and the backbreaker goes fine; Flash somehow keeps hold of the presence of mine to twist free of the suplex, landing on his feet and greeting the Dog's turn with a Flash Bang. “That's it!” London exclaims excitedly. “The new Canadian Champion, replacing R. K. Hayes, is 'Remarkable' Steve Flash!” “And an improvement, if anything,” Stone chimes in. “Still, R.K. - best of luck with whatever you're doing right now. I know I speak for many of our fans when I say that we wish it had been you defending against Flash tonight.” -- Steve Flash, seated comfortably in his office at home, nods acknowledgement, smiling. Behind him, memento title replicas take up half of the bookshelves, the other half filled with DVDs and books on a wide range of subjects. Prominent for this interview is the RPW World title replica and the Canadian title replica. “It wasn't the first belt I'd won,” he offers. “Nor the first singles title, or the first title in Canada. But if I were asked which win means the most to me, that would have to be right up there with any other. I'd had a year and a half teaming with Jeremy as champions, and I knew that Dan was behind me from that. But I'd expected that Dan Jr or Duane would get the shot and the belt, so when I was told what was coming, I really had to smile. Jeremy had the book, and I suppose he wanted to emphasise that the company wasn't all about the family... There'd been too many rumours for a while. “So for a while there I was the face of one of the world's most famous promotions. I honestly couldn't believe it.”

Of particular note is one point where Scout re-enters the ring with a top-rope bulldog – straight onto Guide's waiting knee. Horatio does his best, but the seasoned tag team keep him away from his corner, chopping him down piece by piece with as much two-man work as can be squeezed into each five count. Eventually he does break away, meeting a Guided Missile with a lunging lariat and scrambling for his corner – and Morgan meets him with a European uppercut, staggering him back into the ring as the legal man, Scout, rolls him up and comes away with a fast victory off the three-count. Wanda practically cackles in triumph, throwing the headphones down, and darts for the ring as Morgan, finally, enters. Then he scrambles to his feet – only to be met by Giedroyc's Crashing On. Wanda follows that with a stilettoed superkick that sends him reeling, and Morgan grabs the microphone. “When you set out to win a prize, you only get so many chances,” he says. “Me, you, and Tommy, we had a good thing, sunbeam. “And we lost Tommy partly 'cause you had a problem with him. If you hadn't screwed him over, Cahill'd never have gotten his chance and him or me'd have the title back right now. “But you had to go and take your shot, didn't you? Never won a belt in your life, never earned that, and here's me and Tommy half your age and we've both been the top dog. “I can see why you wanted it, pal. But you only get so many chances, and I gave you as many as I could bear. “You were tailor-made to be backup, but you couldn't live with that. And I only got so many matches left to make myself a legend. I can't carry dead weight with me, and you can't be more. “See you around, sunbeam. Don't get in my way.” He drops the microphone on Dangerous' prone form and the three remaining members of the Invasion leave. This one sees the crowd start off surprisingly hot, though it's definitely true that they could be happier still with just a bit more. With eleven minutes' worth of power and fan support against the grizzled, hard-edged submission style of the Maverick, it's not too bad a match – and it takes Goldworthy's distraction to slow Marlowe and allow Maverick to apply the Deadly Silence. As ever, once the Deadly Silence goes on, there's nothing for it. Marlowe's arm is raised and falls three times rather than tap, but Maverick picks up another victory. The camera catches his look of shock as she boots him in the gut, hoists, and drops him with a near-flawless double-underhook driver on the outside. The girl – who Azaria pegs as a CWL talent known as 'Raven something' – rolls into the ring and kisses Chandler immediately afterward, much to the crowd's approval, as a number of their questions are answered. The duo stand tall for a moment – then see what's coming down the ramp, and leave through the crowd, the way they came. Anger gives vent to the primal scream in frustration as Chandler and his girl make their getaway; Money, similarly punctuates his frustration, kicking the ropes for want of a better outlet. Anger helps up Maverick as Money collects Goldworthy and the four men take up position in the ring. “We knew going into this,” Money says, “that people were going to try to give us trouble. We accounted for that when we drew up the plans, we allowed for it. There's a budget especially for dealing with this kind of crap. Eddie – congratulations, you got your cuddlemuffin back. We've got more planned for you, pal, starting tonight - so don't think this is anything like over. And to the piece of trash who put Krusher in hospital...” Money stops there, pacing, his face working, too wound up to speak. Goldworthy, the consummate businessman, rescues him, collecting the microphone and chiming in. “You've cost us a significant chunk of our quarterly projections,” he says. “We were due the tag belts, and our big guns are involved in other projects, creating other revenue streams. “But one of those projects has concerned you since your entry into the title market, and I assure you, our business strategy is going to wipe the board. Don't get your hopes up, and if you fans out there are getting your hopes invested in the Human Arsenal, it's time to get out before you really see a loss. “Right now, though, it's about the man who just choked out a former tag champion,” with a hand on the silent Maverick's shoulder. “It's about the big guy,” his attention turned to Demon Anger “and a strike against the jumped up cowboy. Tonight, Johnson, you go down. Nothing personal – just business.” w/ vs. Demon Anger w/ Helen Bach vs. Ricky Dale Johnson The two big men size each other up silently, handing off their HGC belts – tag for Anger, International for Johnson – to the ref as Azaria spins the saga of the Demons/Ricky Dale & Vessey feud that ran for three months in HGC over winter. They cicle once, still silent, and almost lock up before Johnson backs off, watching Anger carefully. Anger gives the scream again, then bellows “What's the matter, cowboy?” A flash of anger crosses Johnson's face and he starts forward, then stops, obviously getting himself under control again. Disappointed, Anger charges, Johnson ducks the swinging forearm and, as Anger turns, drops him with a big boot. That sets the tone for this contest; Anger spends the whole time trying to provoke Johnson over his HGC (and NYCW) gimmick, and Johnson keeps control, staying on the calculated side of brutal. Anger uses his own rage to great effect whenever he connects, spending minutes inflicting new and innovative kinds of pain on Johnson throughout, but the rangy Texan can, once he cools down, block and counter Anger's assault to a standstill and take the fight right back to him – at which point both veterans take a break to size up each other's weaknesses. At the very end, Anger hoists Johnson for the Demon Slam, only for Johnson to block the slam itself by landing on his feet and moving in to hit Southern Justice. He goes to cover – but as he drops to his knees, the timer elapses. End of the match, and end of the show, with nothing settled... Demon Anger drew with Ricky Dale Johnson Rating: C+ Another sell-out show packed with revelation and story; a little weak in the wrestling, but the main event sent the fans home happy.
