Why am I sweating bullets? This isn’t my first meeting with Sam Strong and Rip Chord. Hell I even worked with both in my wrestling days. Of course most of the time it was with me being tossed around or laying on my back, but that is beside the point.

My name is Ryan Achitson, And I use to be a professional wrestler. But early on I was more intrigued by the behind the scenes work than the work in the ring. I wasn’t good, but I wasn’t sloppy either. And I did receive some decent pushes thru my career. But when I was done, a piece of me was glad it was over.

Thus, began my second stage of my wrestling career. I worked for several small promotions as head booker. Then one day I got the call to the major leagues, S.W.F. My work for them for the next couple of years was great for me. But the down side was you spent a lot of time on the road. And after my third year it was wearing thin on me.

Richard Eisen is the hardest, easiest man I have ever had to work for. When things are going well, the money and the compliments flow frequently. But the man blows up even on the smallest detail and tends to make things worse than what they really are.

Matters for me became worse at Hell Freezes over in 92. Richard wanted riskier and edgier storylines. I was pushed into several booking assignments that I did not feel comfortable in doing. The P.P.V. was not a bomb. But it wasn’t my best either. That’s the day I decided enough of this.

Richard Eisen: What do you mean your resigning? It wasn’t a smash hit Ryan but I think your over reacting. Besides that it still did well. And I can speak for everyone here, in that we still have supreme confidence in you.

Me: Thank you for the vote of confidence sir. But my mind is made up. I have been doing this for 15 years in some form or another. And I need a break.

Richard Eisen: So no matter what I can’t talk you out of this?

Me: No sir. It’s time for me to leave.

Richard Eisen: You know I hate to see you go. What idea do you have on a replacement? In house or out?

Me: I would stay in house. Give it to Rocky Streets or his dad. Rocky would be my pick, and he seems ready. He has a feel for the locker room egos and also in what is connecting with the fans right now.

To be continued.

<p>I spent the next couple of years completely out of the wrestling world. I didn’t even turn on the tv to watch my old friends or to see if I was correct in passing the book to Streets. I wasn’t ashamed of what I had done. And I still fielded calls from the occasional independent promotion or some of the old boys at SWF. But I was completely burned out. That lasted for almost three years.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

They say wrestling, once it gets in your blood it sets in your system for life. I had to admit by 96 I was getting an itch. I started to watch Supreme again. Second guessing decisions. Even went to some shows to get a better feel for the atmosphere. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

It must have been August of 96 when Sam called me and told me that he had heard thru the grape vine I was thinking about getting back into the business. He told me Rip and himself was on the brink of something potentially huge. I responded just because I was following the business again does not mean my eminent return. Sam told me Rip and himself would be in my area soon and asked If I would be interested in lunch? I agreed for old times sake.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

So here I am waiting for those two meatheads to walk in the door. And I’m sitting here like a little girl waiting for their first date to arrive because I was completely intrigued in what would be so huge to have Sam Strong and Rip Chord work again with one another.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Finally they arrive and we take our seats and start to talk about how they would toss me in the ring and other fun stuff. Fun for them maybe but my body still aches from some of the bumps I took for these two. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

We share other good ole day stories. But it didn’t take long for the their current project to come out in the air. They asked me if I knew who Jk Stallings was? I answered I did. I was then told they had no idea how much he truly was worth but he apparently is loaded. So loaded he decided to start his own sport entertainment company. And the best part was he invest 50 mil to the project.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

I told them that is a lot of money but that doesn’t guarantee anything. Rip agreed but pointed out he has already signed some huge names so all looked good. I asked him who he had signed. Well besides myself and ole Sam here, Both Vessey Brothers, Dread, a good-looking kid from old TWL days, and some other kids and he wasn’t afraid to sign more. I had inquired if any Tv deals where in the works and Sam told me there were several feelers out with Ace, East Coast today among others. I asked why several companies at once. Rip Chord responded with “Why you got a better Idea?” </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

The wheels in my head started to turn. I sat for a minute and collected myself. Well Rip, as a matter a fact I do. I know the director at NCTV. He might consider meeting with you if you’re interested? Rip told me it was my contact and I should have a sit down with him and see what could be worked out. I said that should be a matter for Stallings and/or a representive from his company to work out. Sam pulled out a cell phone and started to dial. I think its time to meet our boss Ryan if you’re up to it? </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Lunches never go as planned in my world. One minute I am chatting with old chums breaking bread. Next I know I am meeting some wiz kid with enough money to seriously help out this nations debt crises with one stroke. I ponder how Richard is gonna take this?</p>

<p>A week had passed since my lunch meeting with Sam Strong and Rip Chord. That left me some time to banter back and forth on is this truly what I want to do again. It was what I wanted to do, I was just paranoid at starting at such a ground-level promotion that is still in the process of finding its identity.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

The flight to California was uneventful. And I was met by a personal assistant along with a limo that was waiting for me. I walked into HGC’s headquarters and was met with Sam and Rip who were waiting for me in the lobby area. I was handed a rough draft of our current roster and some wish list that were currently in negotiation with. Rip handed me another folder containing some financial reports. The kid sure has got some serious bank to invest in this.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

We arrive at the top floor where Stalling’s personal secretary told us we could go on in. He would be finishing a special project but wanted us in his office as soon as possible. We walked into his office and what a huge office it was. I see him huddled with a few computer Geeks staring at a wall. The wall was a huge tv screen as there was some kinda game running. Stallings were wrapping up final touches on a new game called Dwarfhammer I would learn later.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

We started out with idle chit chat just trying to get a feel for each others personalities between Stallings and myself. Eventually the conversation became more business like. The one thing I did notice was at the beginning of our conversation the word dude was used several times. But as we became more business like in conversation it appeared less often, I get the sense that there are two Stallings. Work and play sides to him.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

As this was his first forerray into the sports entertainment business, he let it be known that this was the reason why he hired Sam and Rip into the company. Who better to pick their heads than the two who in my mind help put wrestling back on the map to the masses. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

We talked mostly financial numbers at first. Sponsors who were willing to buy ads for our eventual tv show. Projected fan support, Demographs, you know boring things, except to me. I dissected everything that was said and made my own self analyzes of his numbers. They were close in my mind but I felt his boys were padding his figures. I countered with what I felt were more realistic numbers much to the apparent displeasure to Sam and Rip. I get the feeling that nobody really treated Stalling realistically and basically told him what he wanted to hear. And on several points Stallings and I got into a few debates over my numbers compared to his. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Even if this meeting became more and more heated. Stalling finally asked me if I wanted to become part of the team at Hollyweird. I told him I could never be a “yes” man to him or to anybody. And to be frank I didn’t think he could adapt to that. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="color:#0000FF;">Stallings:</span></strong> Thats why I am offering you this job. Sam and Rip have been very good to me by giving me their insight into the business. But when it came to the booking and the back office side of the things both of them agreed nobody could do it better than you. I want to give you your own office, with your own staff, and every gadget you could ever need to access every available information that you deem necessary. Besides that. I get a strong sense you aint afraid to stand your ground and tell me if I am wrong. I take risks every day. I like the challenges. You’re my next challenge and risk lets say.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

I might be wrong but if the kid is willing to take a chance on me. I might as well do the same.</p>

<p>After going thru the usual contract negotiations our talk turned to product definition. Stallings wanted a more modern program. Sam and Rip preferred a more traditional approach. After listening to both sides I determined we should use the following.</p><p> </p><p>

Traditional= Heavy</p><p>

Mainstream= Key</p><p>

Comedy= Medium</p><p>

Cult= Low</p><p>

Modern = Medium</p><p>

Realism= Low</p><p>

Hardcore= Low</p><p>

Lucha= Medium</p><p>

Daredevil and Pure= Very Low</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

We then determined what our prices should be set up as. I mentioned we should try and use some minor artists for theme entrances and show openers. Also stressed we should also hire a pryotechnics company and use every bit of technology we can get to put on the best presentation of each program we can provide.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Stallings asked me half jokingly if I was planning to bankrupt him. I told him no and I did plan on making him at least a small amount of money. Maybe a dollar if he was lucky. Stallings chuckled, then told me I had better make this company # three in the world by the end 99 or it will be back to obscurity for me. Rip also asked me not to hire any Psychos to which Stallings also agreed with. Sam spoke up and said with our product diffention we better not sign anybody that is weak in toughness. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

My next order of business was to call on my contact at NCTV, Steve Williamson. I knew Steve from way back in high school. We knew each other and were cordial with one another. I also knew he was really interested in having a wrestling program on his station. He was a closet watcher. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Needless to say we got the contract after some tough but fair negotiations. I had to provide backstage passes for Stave and his family for the first month of shows. Also had to provide passes for every PPV Event for as long as we had our programming on his station. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Richard Eisen got word somehow of my coming out of retirement. He gave me a tongue and cheek lecture on how he was gonna bury me and my cohorts. But in the end he showed overall resent ment on the phone at least of my coming back into the business. Half of me knew better. The other half was glad that at least the door was cracked open if this doesn’t work out. Who am I kidding he was probably trashing his office as soon as he got off the phone with me. Somebody is gonna have a bad day Boston today.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

We actually got off the ground in December of 96. As we announced week after week, on whom we are. And though we didn’t have any active title in place managed to keep the fans entertained. Sam Strong was placed in an administrative role during that first month. Rip did his best to coax Sam out of “retirement”. The biggest surprise was the rise of Liberty as we had him “Shock the World” with his win over Rip in December. We brought in the Flame Brothers also. They may be the shells they use to be but name recognition is still there.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

The funny thing in wrestling is retirement is so short lived. Where were you at when Sam Strong came out of retirement? January we took steps to settle on a lot of title vacancies. Sam Strong came out of retirement after getting nailed by Rip Chord after losing to Liberty back in December. Sam shed the admin role and went back to wrestling full time. The next four weeks unfolded a story which everybody knew, but yet remained glued on the edge of their seats would pit Sam against Rip for the HGC World Title. The Demons of Rage were pushed as unstoppable monsters who won the Tag belts. Romeo Hearthrob who caught fire with some good heat was awarded the International Title. And in a throw in match we had Dark Eagle win the Cruiserweight Title at Malice.</p>

I agree with Foolinc. If you want to do a HGC go for it. That is what I love about Cverse. Your take on it may or may not be like mine. So go ahead and do it if you still want to.

HGC Hollyweird TV

Week 1. Febuary 1997

4,262 Attendance

Centerpeice Bridge in Mid-Atlantic region

The show opens with some footage from Malice in Wonderland. We see Sam Strong winning the HGC World title. We know that Liberty beat BLZ Bubb to be named #one contender to Sam’s championship. We see Dark Eagle, The Demons, and Romeo all winning their titles. We come out of the footage as Jason Azaria and Kyle Rhodes welcome us to the show.

1. Sam Strong comes out and starts to celebrate with his championship. He tells us it is an honor to be an HGC first world champion. And he also tells us it will be a bigger honor to defend his belt against Liberty at this month’s War to Settle the Score. Liberty comes out and apologies to Sam and to the fans for the interruption. But want to assure Sam that it is he not Strong who is riding the big wave of momentum coming into the month. And he is gonna take it to Sam and take the belt. Rip Chord shows up on the video screen behind Liberty and says he still is not done with Sam. He has beaten Sam so many times in the past to take away his belts more times than anybody else. Sam was lucky this time, next time luck won’t be a factor explains Rip.

Rated: A

2. BLZ Bubb VS Dread.

What a great way to start the night off I thought. These two no sold their moves more often than the auto industry in a depression sells cars. The action spills out of the ring and both get counted out as they continue to brawl their way to the backstage area.

BLZ Bubb drew with Dread in 7:59 following a double count out.

Rated: C+

3. Peter Valentine VS Monty Walker

Peter attacked Monty as soon as he stepped into the ring. But Monty did muster a valiant comeback on a few occasions. We decided to end the match because there were only so many time you could see Peters execute his awesome display of kick, scratch, and kick again offense.

Peter Valentine defeated Monty Walker in 8:12 by pinfall with a Heart Breaker.

Rated:D+

4. Romeo Heartthrob is backstage preparing for his match up later against Sam Strong.

Romeo: Tonight in front of these worthless sweat hogs here in this very building. You all will witness a true champion, me. It should be me, not Liberty who is facing Strong at the end of the month.

Rated: B+

5. The Blazn Flames VS The Nation of Filth.

The Flames are an 8-time world champion team, The Nations are, well, Filth. Stink and Grunt tried to overpower their opponents. But the Flames stills know how their way around the ring. Quick tags and short spurts by the Flames kept the crowd somewhat entertained.

The Blazn Flames defeated The Nation of Filth in 5:48 when Joey Flame defeated Grunt by pinfall with a Blaze of Glory.

Rated: D-

6. After the match The Flames lay a challenge to The Demons for the titles. The Flames want to go down in history as a 9-time world champions. Flame on dudes!

Rated: D-

7. Cowboy Ricky Dale VS Rip Chord

Rip took out his frustration on Ricky for most of the match. Occasionally Rip would call for Sam Strong to come out and witness what he would do to him the next time they meet. This opened the door for Ricky to get some moves in. But a rake to the eyes shortly after ended that.

Rip Chord defeated Cowboy Ricky Dale in 7:49 with a Chord DDT.

Rated: C+

8. Rip marched his way down from the ring and stormed his way to JK Stalling’s office. He kicked open the door and demanded a title shot against Strong soon. Stallings just sat there nervously, too scared to utter any words. Rip gets closer to Stalling’s desk screaming at him. I show up with security and tell Rip to get out or he will never get a shot at Strong’s title again. Rip walks away slowly but not before he gives me the dreaded look of death.

Rated: C

9. Larry Vessey VS Paul Steadyfast

The two meet at the center of the ring where Larry extends his hand out to shake. Paul slaps Larry across the face. Larry backs up rubbing his check as Paul gloats and plays to the crowd. Larry becomes unglued and starts to pick apart Paul.

Larry Vessey defeated Paul Steadyfast in 7:43 by pinfall with a Sick Cycle.

Rated: D+

10. After the match Joel Bryant, Paul Steadyfast, and Robert Oxford attack Larry Vessey in the ring, and leave him down and out. Before security can make it down the three make their way out of the ring enjoying what they have done.

Rated: D

11. Dusty Streets VS Rich Money

Rich tries to give Dusty a hundred-dollar bill to lay down right now. Dusty just slapped the money away. Rich really tried to make a good showing here but experience prevailed.

Dusty Streets defeated Rich Money in 8:19 by pinfall with a quick cradle.

Rated: D+

12. Sam Strong says once again it is an honor to be a champion again. Whatcha gonna do Romeo when the Strongaholics go wild on you?

Rated: B

13. Romeo Heartthrob VS Sam Strong.

Romeo really taunted Sam and the rest of the audience in the beginning. The two would start to tie up when Romeo would back off and slid out of the ring to get in some fans face. He did this a few times when Sam eventually grew tired of this and slammed Romeos’ head into the guard rail. Strong uses his power to its full advantage but Romeo uses every trick he as up his sleeve to slow down the world champ. Sam starts to make one of his patent comebacks when Rip Chord comes down to ringside carrying a chair. Rip climbs into the ring with it and nails Sam in the back of his knee with it.

Sam Strong defeated Romeo Heartthrob in 9:52 by DQ when Rip Chord ran in and attacked Sam Strong.

Rated: B-

14. Sam Strong is being attacked by Romeo and Rip Chord in the ring. Seeing the assault, Liberty comes running in and fights them both off, saving Sam Strong. Rip and Romeo slither out glaring at Liberty while Liberty tends to a fallen Sam Strong.

Rated: A

Overall show rating: B-

TV Rating: 2.03 on NCTV

Anyway good show, expected better out od Steadyfast but Romeo Hearthrob could be a big time player if his matches are as good as tthat, I mean I know it was against Strong but still Im thinking he is a future world title holder.

I have been with HGC for a few months now and a few things stick out with me. For one just the stamina of Stallings for one. He stays there in his office 12-15 hours a day. He is either studying numbers here in HGC, or going over data on his Dwarfhammer game. Another item is the freedom Stallings allows his employees to have. There just doesn’t seem to be to many rules other than show up, show up on time, and do your job.

Sam Strong has pushed hard for a no drug test policy that is still in place. And although nothing major has happened I feel as if it’s a powder keg waiting to go off. I devised a system to random drop workers without knowing whom their names were before the tests were conducted. Two names bounced back within the first couple of weeks. I convinced Stallings that I should have a talk with the two, which he relented.

I called Teddy Flame into my office. Teddy looked apprehensive to being called in. I just handed him the test results and he looked like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He proceeded to ramble about how this is a young man business and he is only juicing to give an edge to keeping up with them. I told him it was unacceptable. He is one of the elder statesmen for the younger guys and he was to show them an example of how to lead a long and productive career. And even if there was no active drug policy in place, I diffentatly had the pull to terminate any contract I deemed necessary. I pleaded with Teddy do not let this happen again. Teddy told me he would try his hardest and thanked me for not being too hard on him.

I waited for him to leave, opened a drawer and preceded to light a smoke. That was the easy part. Now comes the tough one. I finished my smoke, and made my way downstairs to the weight room. Where I know, I would find Sam working out. Sure enough he was there lifting weights. I point blank asked him if he was using again. Sam asked me so what if he is. Sam do you have any idea what kinda of damage this could cause us. Strong told me it was his life, and I was to face facts. Nobody else in this company could carry the title to lift this company up right now. Rip was good, be he was no Sam Strong. And besides that he was given carte blanch to do whatever he wanted to do in this company. He was a world champion again and he had the pull. And as he was doing one last squat lift He asked for me to be hired, he wasn’t afraid to talk to Stallings to undo a mistake. With that he finished his lift picked up his towel and walked away.
