As the year changed to 2008, the Golden Canvas Grappling changed too. The owner of the promotion Hanshiro Furusawa had hired a new talent relations agent Aiji Misawa, a 22 year old youngster who despite his young age knew a lot of people within the industry trough his father who was a talent agent, a scout for BHOTWG and GCG during the 70's and early 80's before retiring. His father was the one who scouted such superstars as Haruki Kudo and the original Elemental for BHOTWG and after joining GCG Asai Sr. had scouted a future legend in Kazu Yoshizawa who joined GCG for good and became one of their mainstays all the way from the 70's to 2006, having three reigns and almost three years as the World Heavyweight Champion. As a favour to Aiji Sr., Furusawa signed Aiji Jr. in order to help him making his dream of the modern GCG come true.

In the late summer of 2007, frustrated by the debut of INSPIRE in 2006 and the success of PGHW, Furusawa found himself in a dead end. With three promotions more succesful and popular than his GCG, he had to rewind back in time and come up with something really fast in order to save GCG. He had to invent something new in order to elevate GCG back to the top in Japanese wrestling scene. Over twenty years ago in the 80's a bitter war for superiority took place as BHOTWG took on GCG head-to-head for the right to be called Japan's premier promotion. A series of poor business decisions during this war by their Furusawa led GCG to get comprehensively beaten, and by the time the war was over, GCG were well and truly in financial ruin. Having never really recovered from the beatdown they got from BHOTWG, GCG had lost it's fans to the big three promotions in Japan.

Furusawa's new vision of GCG was a mixture of the old days with more than a hint of Rip Chord's idea with Mid Atlantic Wrestling, MAW. Furusawa's dream was to make Golden Canvas Grappling an international wrestling phenomenon never seen before. Japan had become a cold, ruthless place for wrestling promotions where bitter rivalries and promotional wars were the only ways to succeed. With Misawa's social skills and relations, Furusawa had indeed started the revolution in the company.

http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/GCG.jpg

On Monday first week of January in 2008, Hanshiro Furusawa held a special press conference where he stated that he had had enough of the hostility between the promotions in Japan. Furusawa revealed that GCG will bring back the old, colourful logo from the 80's. At the end of the conference, Furusawa dropped a big bomb that would shape the wrestling industry for years to come. In order of creating the international wrestling phenomenon, Furusawa had started negotiations regarding working agreements with several promotions all over the world in order for wrestlers from everywhere to gain experience and showcase their skills in the GCG ring.

http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/INSPIRE.jpghttp://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/WLW.jpg

Furusawa finished the press conference by announcing that GCG had indeed signed working agreements with two Japanese promotions, INSPIRE and WLW with other agreements coming later. The new direction of GCG was highly praised by the insiders within the industry aswell in the media as it was a breath of fresh air in the midst of all the hostility in the business.

The First Talent Trades

INSPIRE - GCG

http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/INSPIRE.jpg http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/GCG.jpg

GCG didn't hesitate in using the new working agreement pacts with the two fellow Japanese promotions as the following trades were made on the very next day on Tuesday. Straight from INSPIRE, "The Dog Of War" Kimitada Yanagita, Roku "The Rock" Sotomura and "Dangerous" Tasuku Iesada were traded for Barry Griffin, Harumi Okazawaya and Jimmy Cox. Yanagita will surely bring a lot to our midcard with his suberb performance skills. Sotomura on the other hand will be a dangerous opponent in the midcard aswell whereas Iesada is surely going to provide great matches in our main event. All deals are for three (3) appearances or four (4) months, whichever comes first.

WLW - GCG

And from WLW, GCG traded Awesome Thunder, Dark EAGLE and Hell Monkey for Eagle Kawasawa, Nathan Coleman and Stuart Ferdinand. All three will provide the GCG fans with a lot of high flying excitement with their unorthodox style. It'll certainly be interesting to see how well these three great athletes will blend into the more traditional roster of GCG. All deals are for three (3) appearances or four (4) months, whichever comes first.

I've always had a soft spot for GCG, ever since my first long term game on TEW'04 with them, even before any of the workers had pictures. Ah, memories... I was a bit of a lurker in your CGC diary, so I'm very much looking forward to this.

New Working Agreements

http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/4C.jpg http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/ROF.jpg http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/CZCW.jpghttp://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/MAW.jpg

GCG is proud to reveal four new working agreements with promotions all around the world. Joining the international phenomenon, the four promotions are 4C from Canada, ROF from UK and CZCW & MAW from the US. The pact will surely benefit the four smaller promotion as GCG will be able to provide it's superstars for their use for their monthly shows. And in trade, GCG will also be able to train the wrestlers they have chosen in exchange as the traded workers will surely gain prestigious experience wrestling against GCG superstars. The following trades were made straight away:

MAW - GCG

http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/MAW.jpghttp://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/GCG.jpg

From MAW, Cameron Vessey, Casey Valentine and Bulldozer Brandon Smith were traded for GCG's Henry Bennett, Nathan Coleman and Samoan Machine. The trade will bring a lot of star power to MAW's shows and also the three youngster will gain prestigious experience from the GCG wrestlers who will surely train them the best they can in order the improve the relationship between the two companies.

http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/Cameron.jpghttp://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/Casey.jpghttp://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/Bulldozer.jpg

http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/Henry.jpghttp://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/Nathan.jpghttp://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/Samoan.jpg

http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/Banner.jpg

From CZCW, Masked Cougar, Insane Machine and Black Eagle for GCG's Eagle Kawasawa, Henry Bennett and Nathan Coleman. Just as with MAW trade, this three man exchange will surely benefit CZCW in many ways. All three masked men have already a little popularity in Japan for their WLW runs. Bennett and Coleman will be touring the States frequently as they will switch between MAW and CZCW.

http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/Banner.jpg

In addition to GCG's new style and expanded roster, GCG is proud to present two new Championships: Joining the GHC World Heavyweight, GHC World Heavyweight Tag Team and HGC Openweight championships will be the new HGC Junior Heavyweight and Junior Heavyweight Tag Team championship, both of which have a max weight restriction of Middleweight class.

GCG started their year yesterday with their Tiger's Roar Tour (Tuesday) show in Toyama Hall in Chubu which was main evented by a great match between Awesome Thunder and Takayuki 2000 which you will surely see on this Saturday's GCG Stars Of The Golden Canvas TV-show, only on Japanese Sports Vision 3. The tour will continue tonight as GCG will hold it's Wednesday event in Kanto. Hanshiro Furusawa has revelead that GCG will be touring six days a week with the shows on Wednesday and Friday held in Kanto while on other days the company will tour the country holding smaller shows around Japan. The "GCG Parade Of Champions" event's date is still undecided as negotiations with different PPV providers are still open.

Will be reading Fin nice to get in from the start as playing catchup on your GCG one.

PS Black Eagle has been in Japan as Dark Optimus its one of his alt chars. Hope Samoan Machine doesn't imediatly get poached as he usually is by BHOTWG.

Darn, a mistake. Actually now that I checked it Black Eagle was with WLW in 2006 and hasn't been in BHOTWG yet. So American Optimus would be just a future character if he should go to the Burning Hammer. And thank you all for the comments, I'm really hyped for this. I'll do the news bits as they come and will post the TV show, containing several matches from all the shows from the week and in the end of it there will be the whole results from all the shows that week.

Gah, you've subconciously and pre-emptively stolen my idea for the highlights show! (not posting the individual shows, just the highlights TV shows). Never mind, ours will be totally different anyway considering I'm doing WLW, which is an entirely different product.

Hehe, seriously though... nice to see another Puro dynasty. I'm still waiting until I've finished writing my first tour before I post mine (it's taking ages, since WLW doesn't start with a highlights show so I can't really get away with that yet and thus have to write up every show in brief, but we've secured one for tour #2!).

Nice touch with the Misawa tribute. Was that the whole inspiration for this dynasty, or were you thinking about it anyway and that made you do it? There isn't really a true parallell to Misawa in the Cornellverse (a bit of Kikkawa here, a bit of Kojima there...), but GCG is definately a parellel of Noah, unquestionably.

Good luck, I'll be reading for sure. :)

Thank you D-Lyrium, that's a lot coming from you. There were couple of reasons for this diary and the choice of GCG. One would be that I have always loved to play the promotion and I almost chose it instead of CGC in the first place when I was thinking of a new diary. The second would be the fact that I still think that Tigerkinney's BHOTWG diary is the best diary ever and third I'd like to think this as a homage for Misawa. I watched NOAH really actively in 2004-05 and been a fan ever since.

The idea for this international wrestling thingy comes from a mixture of IWGP and Wrestle Kingdom and the stuff that Japanese promotions are doing, trading wrestlers etc, having wrestlers from other promotions in their shows..

http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/GCG.jpg

  • Following the show on Wednesday, Golden Canvas Grappling has achieved "Cult" status within the industry. This will surely help GCG in the quest for going international as more and more wrestlers will agree to participate in the GCG shows in future.

  • GCG has signed a 6 month PPV deal with J-Remote 1. GCG will hold their first PPV of the year, GCG: "Parade Of Champions" on Monday, Week 2 of January. The matches will be announced at the end of this Saturday's GCG: "Stars Of The Golden Canvas" TV-show.

  • GCG has removed the Sunday show from their schedule, deeming the current schedule too heavy for the wrestlers. So from now on the weekly tour shows are scheduled from Tuesday to Saturday with the shows on Wednesday and Friday being bigger and being held in Kanto.

http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/OLLIE.jpg

  • GCG and OLLIE have formed a working agreement pact. No trades have yet to be made.

Global Honored Crown World Heavyweight Tag Team

Ikina & Tayama © vs. Samoan Destruction Inc.

- No doubt SDI will be champions one day, but I can't see them winning on the first show.

Awesome Thunder vs. Takayuki 2000

- Thunder is immense.

Hell Monkey vs. Shingen Miyzaki

- A vistor won the last one, so...

Hiroyasu Gakusha & Kiminobu Kuroki vs. Tasuku Iesada & Toshiharu Hyobanshi

- I like me some Gakusha, but I love me some Hyobanshi :p

Global Honored Crown Openweight Championship

Harumi Okazawaya vs. Namboku Makuda

- I like Harumi, but we can't go and predict against Hyobanshi's second now, can we?

Jack Marlove vs. Yasuhide Tayama

- I hate Tayama. He looks about 40, and is only about 25, that always swerves me whenever I remember it. Yeah, that's a crap reason to hate someone isn't it?

Pistol Pete Hall vs. Takayuki 2000

- You're not jobbing your 2nd/3rd biggest star and world champion to Takayuki on the first tour :p

Triple Threat #1 Contenders Match For The

Global Honored Crown World Heavyweight Championship

Hiroyasu Gakusha vs. Toshiharu Hyobanshi vs. Tasuku Iesada

Ya just started the diary so the belts are safe besides Ikina & Tayama are a good team that can snag ya good grades.

Awesome Thunder vs. Takayuki 2000

GCG falters here as Thunder is superior to 2000

Hell Monkey vs. Shingen Miyzaki

Miyzaki is a superstar in the making for you he needs to gain wins over all underneath him and score clean upsets now again. Monkey is a good match up but I go Shingen.

Hiroyasu Gakusha & Kiminobu Kuroki vs. Tasuku Iesada & Toshiharu Hyobanshi

Kuroki is the weak leak in the 4 IMO and it will hurt Gakusha. The combo of Iesada & Hyobanshi gets the V because of this.

Global Honored Crown Openweight Championship

Harumi Okazawaya vs. Namboku Makuda

In every game I play Okazawaya loses the belt first defense and in every game I play with some other fed... Okazawaya loses the belt on the first defense... but I think he can beat Makuda!

Jack Marlove vs. Yasuhide Tayama

The Coming Storm is awesome! He is credible challenger for the crown at any time. So that that continues he needs to be shown as a force. Like now.

Pistol Pete Hall vs. Takayuki 2000

The Stan Hansen of the Cornellverse takes the win over 2000.

Triple Threat #1 Contenders Match For The

Global Honored Crown World Heavyweight Championship

Hiroyasu Gakusha vs. Toshiharu Hyobanshi vs. Tasuku Iesada

.... yeah every game Gakusha or Hyobanshi start off as the only two worthy of beating Hall. I like that Iesada is in the mix. I am going with Gakusha.

Saturday, Week 1, January 2008

http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/Katsuhiko.jpghttp://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/Isei.jpg

  • GCG has signed a new colour commentator and announcer in Katsuhiko Shunsen and Isei Deushi. Both are great broadcasters who will surely improve the quality of commentary in our TV and PPV shows and in our DVD's. Shunsen was a free agent before the signing while Isei Deushi has been a mainstay in WLW.

http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/Mamoru.jpghttp://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/Matsudaira.jpg

  • From WEXXV, Mamoru Nagahama and Matsudaira Morioka have been signed into Touring contracts. "Naga-Mori" will surely be a threat to be reckoned with in our already supreme Tag Team division. The two have been the WEXXV Blood Brothers Tag Team champions since June 2007 and have been outwrestling the psychopaths in Warrior Engine ever since. It'll be interesting to see how these two Tag Team champions will survive in the GCG ring against our great talent.

http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/Masutaro.jpghttp://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/Kiemon.jpghttp://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/Ryunosuke.jpg

  • GCG has signed three more talents. The veteran, "Sunrise" Masutaro Kataoka into a Touring contract and two Young Lions in Kiemon Yoshimatsu and Ryunosuke Matsuki into PPA deals. Kataoka, 40, has never won a single title during his career despite his good skills, especially in Rumble, Technical and Performance skills. Yoshimatsu and Matsuki are two promising young superstars; Kiemon is a bland cruiseweight with average performance skills while Ryunosuke is a great technical worker who seems to have a bright future ahead of him.

http://koti.mbnet.fi/sadhappy/GCG/Hanshiro.jpg

  • The owner of GCG Hanshiro Furusawa has announced a new rule concerning out championships. Officially starting after GCG: "Parade Of Champions", every title which has a reigning champion has to be defended atleast once in a week. Plus, the GHC Openweight Championship will have a special, never before used stipulation attached into it. If the challenger is smaller than the champion, and lasted for 15 minutes, he would win the title. The title can also change hands on a countout.

Well that's an interesting twist for the Openweight title. I wonder which "Small" wrestler is going to topple a heavyweight by going the distance.

Nice pick ups of Naga-Mori, Kataoka, and SUKI - and the gimmicked Openweight title will bring some good reads.

I got question for ya FIN if ya have time and it doesn't mess with future plans for ya diary... Whatcha gonna do with Dick? Dick the Devastator is an awesome Color man I usually use him as that. There is no need for a "personality" in GCG IMO but I bet he could help lead some sort of heel like faction... I am just curious on what kinda plans you got for him as ya haven't mentioned nothing and he is an asset!!!

This idea is actually stolen from Pro Wrestling NOAH's (surprise) GHC Openweight Hardcore Championship, which Kenta Kobashi won this June btw.

wondered how long it would take till we got some wexxy influence just couldn't stay away from those talentless but lovable freaks could ya hehe.

Haha. I doubt if I'll be bringing any other talent from WEXXV any time soon. Altough now that I think of it, Taheji Konoe is actually a promising talent, might aswell bring him on board later. And Brothers Of Vengeange might add something to the tag division.. Hmm.

Still wondering it myself. I'm just going to test different announcing teams to see if there's any chemistry between the workers. :)
