TCW: A Quiet Retirement

The TCW Arena - I voted for this. It is what it is, at the end of the day.

The Jennifer Cornell Coliseum - Hmm. Can't see this. If Jennifer was in the least bit involved in the business (is she even in the database anymore?) then maybe, but it doesn't seem very like Tommy to do this.

TCW Wrestledome/The Home Of Wrestling - I like the idea, and something in this region could work, but neither of these names jump out at me.

The Stallings Ampitheatre - Not unless JK is back in the game...

On an unrelated note, how's the conversion going? I'm curious if you've noticed a lot of stat changes outside your own wrestlers?

Not huge, but virtually everyone's seen some adjustment on virtually everything. That said, much of the stat work is waiting until we hit December 28th and I can knuckle down to exact numbers. </p><p> </p><p> The big puzzle is actually popularity - the SWF have left almost everyone on their roster at least a notch less popular than they began, with a couple of exceptions who're probably outside their size range if the SWF don't return to National in time to renew their contracts.</p>

<p>Prediction Key:</p><p>

<p>The New Wave vs. <strong>The Stone Brothers</strong> (non-title)</p><p> </p><p>

<em>With this being non title, I'm going to pick the Stone's to pick up the win in this one, with this they can then talk themsleves up as being the real number one contenders to the Tag Titles, rather than the winners of the tournament.</em> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Art Reed & the Keith Brothers</strong> w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. Eric Tyler & the School of Tradition w/ Laura Huggins</p><p> </p><p>

<em>The School are a 'stepping stone' faction and with the Keith's gradually rising I see them (alongside Reed) winning here to see their stock further grow.</em> </p><p> </p><p>

<em>Simply for the fact that Fonzie is teaming up with a main event talent in RDJ</em> </p><p> </p><p>

Frankie Perez vs. <strong>Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Bloodstone's nearer to being established as a top tier talent in TCW, than Frankie P is right now.</em> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Koshiro Ino & Troy Tornado w/ Baroness Emily</strong> vs. Sammy Bach & Wolf Hawkins</p><p> </p><p>

<em>I'll go with Regis' reasoning that 'Team Marty Janetty' will intefere and costs Bach & Hawkins the win.</em> </p><p> </p><p>

The New Wave vs. Stone Brothers

Not quite up to the Keith Brothers/Stone Brothers contest of a little while ago, this is nonetheless a simply excellent match, with the New Wave's teamwork compensating for the Stone Brothers' sheer experience. Near-falls come thick and fast.

But both sides understand their partner perfectly, and the result is that no one can quite get the other side beaten. They come close, but there's always someone there to break it up.

In the closing moments, Jeremy blocks the Guided Missile and applies a Stone Hold to Guide. Edd blocks the interruption with a missile dropkick, but the match runs out of time before Guide can tap out.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/MayhemMidden.jpg

Backstage, Mayhem Midden bursts into the Syndicate's locker room. “What were you playing at last week?” he growls.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/TommyCornell_alt5.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JungleJack_FIN4.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JulianWatson_FIN.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/WolfHawkins_alt3.jpg

Tommy Cornell smirks as the Enforcers step forward to flank him, and Wolf Hawkins comes forward too.

“Dealing with what's mine,” Cornell replies. “What about it?”

“Unacceptable,” Midden returns, his voice clipped. “Between your big lug dropping me on my head and your actions – I got the Board to agree to something.

“You, Tommy Cornell, are hereby refused any title match for the next six months.

“That goes for your big moron Baine too – do me a favour, would you, and tell him for me? I don't need the headache.”

Cornell's smirk is well and truly cracked. “You're going to regret this, Midden,” he growls.

“No,” Midden snarls. “I'm going to regret not doing it sooner. See, you've got your hands full enough as it is, with Sam and his buddies...

“And I've got a feeling that by the time you two gangs get through with each other, there's only going to be one gang left.

“Stick to war on one front, Tommy. Two fronts doesn't end well for anyone.”

Eric Tyler & the School of Tradition w/ Laura Huggins

Fast and frantic, this one, with lots of tags and lots of transitions – and, before too long, a lot of extra activity.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/Acid_alt2.jpg

Acid slides into the ring while Sam Sparrow checks on a downed Joel Bryant. Art Reed makes straight for him; Acid tries a roundhouse kick which Art blocks. He goes for a powerbomb, but the masked man turns it into a huracanrana.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/FreddyHuggins.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/UKDragon.jpg

That's just the start; as the Keith Brothers come to his rescue, Freddy Huggins comes out of nowhere to hit Greg Keith with the Huggins Kiss, and UK Dragon even appears, wiping Matthew Keith out with a springboard Shining Wizard. Eric Tyler promptly clamps down the Tradition life on Matthew to force the submission victory.

Easy Riders w/ Karen Killer vs. RDJ & Danny Fonzarelli

Another contest pitting natural understanding against long experience together – and, as you'd expect, a knock-down, drag-out brawl. Fonzarelli's made a habit, this past year, of imitating his foes; this time, however, he seems to be concentrating more and more on imitating RDJ, to the point that twice Dangerous seems to get them confused.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/LobsterWarrior_PS.jpg

It doesn't last too long, though; after perhaps seven minutes Chris Rockwell rolls into the ring and blindsides Ricky Dale Johnson, drawing an instant DQ from Eugene Williams. RDJ only gets clear following an assist from Fonzarelli.

The big screen comes to life, and Horatio Dangerous is once again seen in the interview room, this time sat opposite the Syndicate's newest addition, Jeremy Stone.

Horatio Dangerous nods to the audience as the interview begins. “With me today,” he says, “is a man with the highest wrestling pedigree.

“His father was a champion. His brothers are champions. His sister was a champion.

“And he himself has notched up an astonishing number of title victories, with and without his brothers.

“All that took place in Canada, where the family are acclaimed as some of the greatest professional wrestlers the country ever produced. I'm talking, of course, about the Canadian Wrestling Machine, Jeremy Stone.

“Jeremy – let's come right out and ask. You've been associated all your life with your father's wrestling company. Despite working for your family, no one could argue that you haven't deserved your success, and it's on your back and the back of your family – and the people you trained – that your old company has reached the level it has.

“So why leave that behind and come to TCW?”

The eldest active Stone smiles for just a moment. “Three words, Harry,” he says.

“Hall. Of. Immortals.

“I'm not getting any younger, and despite all we've done, achievements in Dad's company don't make the kind of impact I need to make to get there before I retire.

“I know this sounds like ego, but I intend to show anyone who doubts me that I can back up that goal. When I left my family behind last month, I knew that I couldn't just go anywhere to make that kind of impact – and I knew where I wanted to come. TCW is where my brother is, it's where my best pupils are. It's where Tommy Cornell, Sam Keith, Ricky Dale Johnson, and so many others hang out.

“If I want to make the impact I need to in the time I have left, I can't go anywhere else. I can't afford to be the best man there – I need the best competition available.

“There's nowhere else.”

...And as the show returns from commercial, Johnny Bloodstone can be seen walking backstage, dressed to wrestle. Around his waist is a second brand new belt...

“So who's champion?” Dangerous promptly asks. “Which of those is the legitimate belt?”

“Maybe they both are,” Doakes replies. “They beat Tommy Cornell together; they both have a claim.”

Frankie Perez vs. Johnny Bloodstone w/ Blonde Bombshell

It's not an astonishing contest, but it's a good one. Frankie Perez does his level best to take on the man in the championship belt, and there are times when he comes pretty close.

At one point, he even goes for the Perfect Parity, that famed but so far unseen submission hold. He doesn't get more than halfway before Bloodstone rolls to the outside and breaks, clearly worried about the hold.

Frankie uncharacteristically goes for a suicide dive while Bloodstone is outside, and Johnny manages to step out of his path. It never really goes Frankie's way again, after that, and the Bloodstone Mutilation comes in soon enough. Frankie has to tap.

Koshiro Ino & Troy Tornado w/ Baroness Emily vs. Sammy Bach & Wolf Hawkins

The pace picks up once again here; Bach and Wolf seem to be gelling, with Wolf slowly adapting to the kind of violent, pent-up fury of Sammy's strikes.

Tornado and Ino, meanwhile, just give every bit as good as they get, the match spilling out of the ring on a regular basis, and showing the best from everyone.

Three of the four – Hawkins, Ino, and Tornado keep glancing back at the entrance ramp to see if the Disrespected are coming. Sammy either doesn't care or isn't thinking about it, his mind on the match.

Eventually, though, Sammy drops following a Kobra's Bite and a Star Maker in quick succession. Tornado goes for the pin, but Wolf's attention is on the entrance ramp, seemingly convinced something's coming – and that allows the other bearer of a championship belt to get the pinfall here.

The Machines vs. Tommy Cornell & Tyson Baine

The first few minutes of this, Hill/Cornell, show an evenly-paced, textbook mat classic. After a while, though, Tommy tags out – and seems to lose interest in the match.

Not that he needs to pay much attention, not with Tyson Baine on the roll he's been on lately. It's devastating, and only the fact the Machines act as a pair gives them any kind of chance here.

They persevere, and eventually do get a chance to do something; John Anderson even gathers in Baine's arms for the Ammo Dump, but Baine powers up and out, smashing Anderson to the mat with a Hades Bomb. As Hill comes in to rescue him Baine is ready, laying him out on top of his ally with a chokeslam, before pinning Anderson.

“But Anderson still has something neither Syndicate man can match,” Horatio says. “He's a champion – and they can't be, not for six months.”

Baine continues his assault. Sam Keith sprints down to the ring to try to help, only to be met by a punch that sends him right back out of the ring, over the top rope. Johnny Bloodstone is there a moment later; he actually delivers a belt shot to Baine's head, which staggers the monster for a moment.

Encouraged, Bloodstone presses the attack – and Baine's big boot drops him instantly.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/TroyTornado_nacht6.jpg

Troy Tornado tries his hand next. A Hades Bomb leaves him lying on Bloodstone's prone form.

Cornell, grinning, encourages Baine to do it one last time...

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/EddiePeak.jpg

But Crashing Around You begins to play, and Eddie Peak appears at the top of the ramp.

Baine abruptly casts Tornado aside, sprinting up the ramp, and the two collide as Jason Azaria wraps up the show...

Two guys going around with the promotions 'top belt', wonder where you got that idea from ? ;):p

Seriously though, this is getting very interesting with the disputed World Champion and I'm sure the pay off will be better than it was in my FCW diary, you do of course have the advantage that one of your guys holding a title isn't about to head off for a bigger promotion.

Original plan was simply to have Johnny eventually win the belt, hence commissioning the somewhat awesome Smoking Canadian Belt - and then ReapeR published the new TCW Championship belt and I started thinking about ways to bring them both in.

This 'un could get more than a little interesting... Hopefully, anyway.

Thursday October 11th 2008

I've spent a fair bit of time discussing the SWF in here; there are obvious reasons – my sons work there, they're our biggest competition, and so on.

I haven't really touched much on the number three, USPW, despite my daughter working there – maybe because in any given month they're not a major part of her concerns. Like many female pro wrestlers, Kate racks up frequent flyer miles between the US and Canada at an astonishing rate.

Maybe also because USPW don't go head-to-head with us, don't tend to gun for the same talents we like, and we generally don't have much crossover.

That may change soon; it's taking him time, but Shane Sneer's storylines and the stars they have at their top ranks are starting to help them gain some ground.

It's notable, however, that even with the SWF concentrating solely on pay-per-view, USPW's most recent TV instalment outdid today's SWF PPV.

Mind you, if you were to list the top five talents in SWF today, only one of them – Steve Frehley – actually wrestled, and he defended the top belt against Scott Sinclair.

This is the part of the book, or one of them, that lawyers may get antsy about.

Scott Sinclair helped to kill AMW, ten years ago, staying on top through politics and a girlfriend more silicon than DNA. He didn't do it deliberately – he just wasn't very good.

He's something of a legend in the business these days. I've heard George DeColt describe him as “proof it's possible to fail upward in this business,” as he's now in the SWF – and clearly considered good enough or over enough to be on top at least once there.

I'm not a fan, is what I'm trying to say. Say what you like about Enygma – all the politics accusations, as thick as those around Scott – he's not traditionally considered a hardcore wrestler and Genghis Rahn, as much as TCW owes him, is nothing but.

When they put on a better match than Frehley and Sinclair there's a problem, if the Frehley/Sinclair match is in the main event.

My job is to make sure TCW survives and thrives. It's not in my job description to care what happens to the SWF, to USPW, or any of the rest.

That's something that happens because I'm a fan and a father. .

Awesome bit. Love the "fail upward" line.

Oldie but a goodie. I know I've heard Kevin Smith use it about someone, and likely others - but it so utterly fits BSS main eventing in the SWF, bless him.

(I have tried, over many games, to push BSS in the SWF. Invariably Richard Eisen then hands out five owner goals, a minimum of three of which block me from rehiring him.)

Same problem I've had with him. I try to push BSS, and then Richard says no. I also tried to institute a drug testing policy in the SWF, and now I get a note that BSS failed a steroid test after every show.

What a week we've just had. Two World Heavyweight Championship belts around the waists of two claimants. Tommy Cornell and Tyson Baine banned from championship competition for half a year. And we're just scratching the surface.

Following the events of Tuesday's six-man tag, another tag team match has been scheduled for Badge of Honor, pitting the School of Tradition against the Keith Brothers. Last time these two teams met, it went to a time limit draw - has either side improved enough to tip the balance?

Acid Dragon, as WLW knew them, will team up again to wrestle against the Tag Team Champions in another non-title match. The masked men should have different affiliations, but UK Dragon has been coming to Acid's aid on a couple of occasions. Could we be seeing the rebirth of a competitive force?

A contendership battle next, as three men fight to become the next All-Action Championship challenger. Hell Monkey, Frankie Perez, and Sammy Bach will all be in contention for the title shot at Crunch Time, and it goes down on Friday.

And after that? We have a potential stunner of a match. Eric Tyler is back in action, facing off against a man who humbled him on Pay-Per-View. Tyler will square off against Aaron Andrews, who volunteered to try to teach the School of Tradition leader another lesson while Rick Law rehabs his arm a little. The match is set to be a Streetfight.

Our main event is a champions' showcase, where International Champion John Anderson and All Action Champion Edd Stone collide. Neither championship belt will be on the line, but the divisions' pride may well be...

Prediction Key:

The Keith Brothers w/ Blonde Bombshell vs. School of Tradition w/ Laura Huggins

Acid Dragon w/ Laura Huggins vs. New Wave (non-title)

TCW All Action Championship #1 Contendership Match

Hell Monkey vs. Frankie Perez vs. Sammy Bach

STREETFIGHT MATCH

Aaron Andrews vs. Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins

Champion vs. Champion (non-title)

Edd Stone vs. John Anderson

Their big win over the Keiths last episode keeps the SoT on a roll.

Acid Dragon w/ Laura Huggins vs. New Wave (non-title)

The champs will stay dominant until the tournament is over.

TCW All Action Championship #1 Contendership Match

Hell Monkey vs. Frankie Perez vs. Sammy Bach

Sammy Bach - been there, done that. Hell Monkey - not over enough yet. P-Dawg - let's see, shall we?

STREETFIGHT MATCH

Aaron Andrews vs. Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins

The DAVE veteran and his ego versus some punk kid? Eric wins through massive interference.

Champion vs. Champion (non-title)

Edd Stone vs. John Anderson

I predict a draw. It's always a draw in champ vs. champ.

On one hand the Keith's may get a win back here to even the score, but I see the School staying ahead by any means necessary for this feud for now.

Acid Dragon w/ Laura Huggins vs. New Wave (non-title)

Tag champs stay strong until someone emerges that can truly challenge them, in other words the actual winners of the tournament.

TCW All Action Championship #1 Contendership Match

Hell Monkey vs. Frankie Perez vs. Sammy Bach

I agree with Regis' reasoning on this one, Hell Monkey isn't quite over enough yet and Bach has 'been there, done that'. Perez has paid his dues enough and a challenge for the All Action belt from P-Dawg wouldn't be a bad way to go.

STREETFIGHT MATCH

Aaron Andrews vs. Eric Tyler w/ Laura Huggins

This is just perfectly suited for Tyler to blatantly cheat his way to victory.

Champion vs. Champion (non-title)

Edd Stone vs. John Anderson

Unless you are looking to elevate the importance of the All Action belt, right now the International champ trumps the All Action champ.
