<strong>1st January 2010</strong></p><p>

2010... this project has been the longest time I've ever kept a diary going. Once again, some notes on the thinking behind each match on the Pay-Per-View:</p><p> </p><p>

</p><ul><li>ELITE vs. TCW: This wasn't originally supposed to happen. This slot was pencilled in for a Falls Count Anywhere between Troy and Sammy when I did the month's plan, but mid-month everything changed. Troy and Sammy was easiest to drop without hurting the storyline; in fact, with Jack Bruce kidnapped, arguably we helped it. In other situations ELITE would have lost, setting up a chase for contracts we could have used to build possibly over months, but we need them to look dominant fast. At the same time we build toward Perez/Umaga at Malice in Wonderland – which much to my surprise seems to have box office value, rather than simply being a showcase for them both.<br /></li><li>Acid vs. John Pathlow: I dislike giving away a champion's title on their first big defence, and more so when it's their first reign – makes them look like a fluke. In the mid-term, Pathlow will be defending outside the School of Tradition/Team KOBRA upcoming feud, though the American Dojo will continue to be involved in that, both to build up non-faction talent and to remind everybody that this belt isn't just about giving the feud a prop. In the long-term... difficult to say. The All Action Division reconfigures easily.<br /></li><li>Davis Wayne Newton vs. Sean McFly: We're building Davis to make sure we have a strong storyline going into the Shot at the Top, and to avoid knocking the wind out of the new character's sales. Sean will be rebuilt shortly, but honestly his next big match will sell regardless, so building Davis was the priority.<br /></li><li>Freddy Huggins vs. Sean Deeley: Match three of a Best of Seven series, doing exactly what you'd want from it; I really don't have much to say about this one. Freddy's determination to land the Kiss resurfaces and costs him.<br /></li><li>British Lions vs. Eternal Party: At Malice the Lions face the two longest-running 'top' teams TCW has on consecutive nights. Having reinserted the New Wave into the title scene, I turned to Edd to come up with a way to postpone the rematch a month, and the Scavenger Hunt, while nothing I expected, was a welcome surprise in that it got people talking. This was a placeholder defence for the Lions, but with Edd's fanbase, one where they could justifiably be expected to drop the belts.<br /></li><li>Christian Faith vs. Remo Richardson: Christian asked for this. We might've run it on to Malice, but the ELITE attacks justified not working a schmozz ending and I can move on to my preferred opponent for Remo at Malice, while freeing Christian up to get involved elsehwere in the Generation Omega feud – I don't want the seven GenOm matches at Malice to feel like retreads of ongoing feuds.<br /></li><li>JeriLynn Stone vs. Serena Starr: Once again, setup. With Alicia in the mix, a lot of people assumed she'd be jumping to the head of the queue, but while her character certainly expected to, part of the reason for doing that was to emphasise that that's not how it happens in TCW – the other part being to give the fans a chance to realise how arrogant her catchphrase is. Ricky did well here; Alicia moves into the title picture next year, after the payoff to the Lights feud at Malice.<br /></li><li>Art Reed vs. Matthew Keith: Hopefully as self-explanatory as the Best of Seven. Matthew's spent the past few months rolling through his former allies and his brother's current allies, and will collide with his brother at the biggest show of the year. Now, I have to give Art credit for holding up his end of the match – I think he remains as viable a main eventer as he was before.<br /></li><li>Wolf vs. Aaron vs. Brent vs. Eric vs. John vs. Zimmy: Elimination puts the title in greater jeopardy, and we give five great workers their due in the main event against the champion. My basic description as far as the final section was “John, you have five minutes of hope spot; Wolf, put him down at the end.” They delivered in fine style, but I also have to give Aaron credit for putting his body on the line the way he did. It could cost him his Malice spot, but thankfully it looks like it hasn't.<br /></li></ul><p></p>

Heck of a show, PS. Good, solid logic to the choices as well - I'd forgotten Pathlow was a new champion.

Malice is shaping up to be a hell of a show. How many matches do you expect to have across the two nights?

Nineteen matches across two nights. Plus celebrities, bands, and all the other woo-wa I won't be able to justify in the next diary.

Welcome to 2010! The gang at the TCW.com bunker are looking forwrd to another year of fantastic wrestling. Let's see what's on tap as we start the year...

The Fly Boys have the honour of starting the year, alongside masked high-flyers Tooth & Claw. Can the luchador combo pull out the win, or will Goldworthy's team get their foot on the tag ladder?

In one on one competition, John Pathlow's student American Fox takes on Frankie Dee of the School of Tradition. You could call this an echo of the All Action title match from the weekend, but it's also a way to gauge whose teaching method is better...

Tag team action follows. After a loss Sunday night to ELITE, Golden Law have requested a chance to challenge themselves against giants again to make up for their struggles against Dan DaLay - so M.A.D. are on board against them. Will power or determination win out?

And on the female side of the equation, champ JeriLynn Stone and Kate Dangerous ally against the duo of Raku Makuda and Tamara McFly. Four fantastic competitors - but who's going to win out?

More fallout from the ELITE war. Joe Money and Maverick, who tagged up in CGC as 'Double J', offered a challenge to Rhino Umaga, apparently as a taunt. The man who's stepped up alongside Umaga? His cousin, Giant Tana. Can the might of Samoa overcome ELITE?

Christian Faith told us after the show that he respects Sean Deeley's attitude to the International Championship and wants to show him some stuff. With the other Texas Outlaws currently on the shelf, Faith and Deeley have taken the opportunity to unite, facing rising stars of the wrestling world in Elimination Protocol. That should be a humdinger - and then we come to the main event.

Troy Tornado was seen last week abducting Jack Bruce. Bruce's ally, Sammy Bach, has been livid - justifiably, we might say - and the result is Tornado and Bach, tonight... in a steel cage.

Prediction Key:

Fly Boys w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Tooth & Claw

American Fox vs. Frankie Dee

Golden Law vs. M.A.D.

JeriLynn Stone & Kate Dangerous vs. Raku Makuda & Tamara McFly

Double J (Joe Money & Maverick) vs. Giant Tana & Rhino Umaga

Elimination Protocol vs. Christian Faith & Sean Deeley w/ Laura Huggins

STEEL CAGE

Sammy Bach vs. Troy Tornado

Brief behind-the-scenes note, gang:

As you can see, the play button I've been using all this time is no longer available. It was the one image I didn't host myself, so it's my own fault - but at this point I'm afraid I DO refuse to go through and change every previous iteration of it, because it would take God knows how long.

For the remainder of the month it will be replaced with:

Fly Boys w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Tooth & Claw

jobbers.

American Fox vs. Frankie Dee

Doing slighly more.

Golden Law vs. M.A.D.

Didn´t even know that M.A.D was still around. Anyway Golden LAw has been doing much more lately.

JeriLynn Stone & Kate Dangerous vs. Raku Makuda & Tamara McFly

Neither girl doesn´t seem like big enough name to go over Jerilynn.

Double J (Joe Money & Maverick) vs. Giant Tana & Rhino Umaga

I´m guessing that ELITE stays strong.

Elimination Protocol vs. Christian Faith & Sean Deeley w/ Laura Huggins

Bigger names.

STEEL CAGE

Sammy Bach vs. Troy Tornado

Could go either way but I think that Bach would get more from the win.

Fly Boys w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Tooth & Claw

I guess that in order to be a lower midcarder, you occasionally have to win one.

American Fox vs. Frankie Dee

He that loveth not Fox Mask loveth not TEW.

Golden Law vs. M.A.D.

Wow... M.A.D. is still around. It's a stretch that Khoklov could be this buried. Yes, yes, he's not a good worker. But he's also the biggest man on the roster by 150 pounds or so -- 'undoubtedly the most physically intimidating wrestler of all time, a man whose size, freakish power, and ripped physique redefine the term "monster heel".' Except, apparently in TCW, where they redefine the term "midcard tag specialist." I understand these are the game mechanics, but personally, it's tough for me to see a promotion treat the idea of a relatively normal-sized guy beating Khoklov so casually. Of course, Golden and Rick Law are pretty big... but still.

JeriLynn Stone & Kate Dangerous vs. Raku Makuda & Tamara McFly

I think the Lights get involved in some capacity, but I don't think that's enough to tip the win here.

Double J (Joe Money & Maverick) vs. Giant Tana & Rhino Umaga

TCW has two Samoans, but they don't have the best Samoan. This is a smart booking for Double J's first win -- two guys with enough recent success to be credible, not attached to any bigger stable, but they're not even a full-time tag team, so it's tough to know where to rate them...

Elimination Protocol vs. Christian Faith & Sean Deeley w/ Laura Huggins

EP making the semi-main!! And getting kind of squashed, probably.

STEEL CAGE

Sammy Bach vs. Troy Tornado

I have no idea where this is going, but I suppose we'll find out.

Fly Boys w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Tooth & Claw

Tooth & Claw's job cred is even higher than that of the Fly Boys

American Fox vs. Frankie Dee

Fox Mask > Dee.

Golden Law vs. M.A.D.

M.A.D. don't win... which as Oregano said, is a little odd to consider sometimes. Then again It's TCW where workrate comes first, and Khoklov lacks that, so hey. Big Show and Great Khali lose fairly regularly in WWE, and they HAVE to be considered the real world's giant size wrestlers, don't they? Once the monster aura goes, the big men aren't quite as indomitable.

JeriLynn Stone & Kate Dangerous vs. Raku Makuda & Tamara McFly

Raku may have helped establish the division, but Jeri and Kate are way out of these guy's league.

Double J (Joe Money & Maverick) vs. Giant Tana & Rhino Umaga

They got their in, it would be kinda lame if they lost immediately, especially to Tana, who whilst has broken free of his jobberitis, is still an expendable name.

Elimination Protocol vs. Christian Faith & Sean Deeley w/ Laura Huggins

Elimination Protocol don't win either.

STEEL CAGE

Sammy Bach vs. Troy Tornado

If this is heading for a big date... then I can't see the face winning before then, and Bach 'escaping' from him is the perfect way for a cerebral, corrupt guy to sneak out a win.

---

Loved the end of year stuff. Not entirely surprised to see Art take home wrestler of the year.

I'm not sure if I asked this before, but how old are the Dangerous children anyway? (Also, how good are their skills). I remember they were all in PPPW to a greater or lesser extent, but I don't recall exactly when they debuted.

Fly Boys w/ Floyd Goldworthy vs. Tooth & Claw

A rapid exchange of dropkicks, flying lariats and headscissors opens this one as Jimmy P and Lobo Blanco open up at the beginning.

Soon enough, though, things shift. Donnie J comes in, moving to something of a brawling game, and Blanco has to tag out to American Eagle to recover. This allows the Eagle to shine, hitting fast and hard before the Boys catch him up.

A Spanish Fly puts him down, but Lobo interrupts the tag – only for Donnie to take him apart, putting him down with the Death on Miami Beach. A sign of good things in 2010?

The big screen bursts into life. Set to ELITE's apparent new theme, Civil War by Guns 'n' Roses, it opens with old CGC footage; Alex DeColt's trusted friend, Dan DaLay, turns on him to help Eddie Chandler. Recruitment of the rest of the early forms of ELITE is brushed over, showcasing only John Maverick, Sean Deeley, and the tag team then known as the Specialists – now in TCW as the Elite Express.

Jacob Jett's turn to join ELITE is played up, as is the arrival of Joe Money and the return of Maverick – and then, as the guitar kicks in, we see clips of their attacks on TCW individuals, Midden's warnings, Umaga's challenge, the five man match arrangement for contracts, Money's offer to Cornell, and the match itself – though Perez' betrayal of Team TCW is overlooked in these clips.

The video begins and ends with a common Eddie Chandler catchphrase: “Like it or not, you're looking at the only real gang in professional wrestling.”

The music changes afterward. We Will Rock You is the kind of song that needs a larger than life personality to carry it off – and that larger-than-life personality is the senior DeColt, Steve. However, it doubles as a signature tune for the family as a whole – and that's how it's being used here.

A slick package shows off many of their big moves, both singly and as a family, culminating in the three-man variant of the Welcome To DeColt Country – a stereo powerbomb by Steve and Alex, augmented by a simultaneous lungblower from Ricky.

The video ends with a simple tagline:

MALICE IN WONDERLAND

NIGHT ONE

THE QUESTION WILL BE ANSWERED

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/FoxMask_kam4.jpg vs. http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/FrankieDee.jpg

American Fox vs. Frankie Dee

What a hectic contest here. Dee opens strong, but American Fox comes back using incredible agility, at one point leapfrogging the Sinanju Kick – a shot typically aimed at the head.

Fox hits hard, but Dee has done his homework; the Fox Hunter and the Fox Flip Off DDT are both scouted and he has the blocks and counters down pat.

So the American Fox is denied access to his match-winners; it looks tricky, at this point, to see how either side will win, but after a while the frenetic exchanges take their toll.

Dee whips Fox toward the ropes and referee Eugene Williams is in the way; to avoid impact, he dives out of the ring himself, but being less trained than most of the wrestlers, when he hits the floor he lands awkwardly.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JungleJack_alt1.jpg

And that's when Jack Marlowe arrives in the ring.

Both men tense up, eyeing Marlowe, both apparently unsure. “One of them has to know what's going on here, surely?” Azaria asks, but Sara Silver reminds him that the Enforcers have taken money just to beat people down enough times before now.

Frankie Dee turns out to be his target here, and Marlowe brutalises him for a few moments then whips him to American Fox, who isn't unwilling to take advantage, nailing the Fox Hunter. Marlowe tosses Williams back into the ring and the pin is counted.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JungleJack_alt1.jpg

Marlowe rolls into the ring and makes as if to raise American Fox's hand – but the masked wrestler darts back, staying clear of him, looking as best he can contemptuous of the idea.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/EricTyler.jpg

And then Bad To The Bone begins to play, heralding as it always does Eric Tyler.

He has a microphone. He stops atop the entrance ramp. He points at Marlowe.

“How much to know who hired you?” he asks, glowering. “Five hundred? A thousand?”

Marlowe shakes his head, collecting the microphone. “I was paid extra for secrecy,” he says. “I won't be telling.”

“That's about what I thought. But I'll tell you what, it doesn't matter.

“I can say, here and now, tha it's beginning to be obvious.” He turns to face a nearby cameraman. “Ino, you worthless piece of crap, is this what it's come to? Are you that insecure about your training methods that you have to hire outsiders to take on a school that works?

“This isn't going to go well for you. You've been waging a war all this time. Now it's time for the fight back.”

“...There's been a war?” Azaria asks, a little confused.

Golden Law vs. M.A.D.

There's very little to describe this match other than the word 'brawl'. Every one of these competitors is, one way or another, about the word 'power'. And as such, it's a messy melee.

M.A.D. have a distinct advantage in raw strength, but one of the admirable things about Golden Law has long been the speed with which they can move, reposition, and then hit hard.

The big problem is, quite literally, a huge problem; Marat Khoklov. He won't go down easily, making him hard to pin; the strongest submission manoeuvre Golden Law have access to is the Rack, and – let's be honest – that's not exactly an easy thing to do to the Russian Giant.

So keeping him out of the way becomes important. A Long Arm Of the Law doesn't take him off his feet, but it does leave him up against the top rope; united with Golden, the pair link arms for a massive double clothesline that does send Khoklov from the ring.

Ray Johnson sends Law out of the ring, counting Golden's entrance as a tag; while Johnson is distracted, Golden nails the Rocky Road on American Buffalo, playing to the crowd before making the pin and picking up the victory.

JeriLynn Stone & Kate Dangerous vs. Raku Makuda & Tamara McFly

A very different kind of match. This one is fluid and instinctive, a blend of chain wrestling and airborne spectacle – with Makuda providing the highlight when, a series of exchanges and headscissors having left the other three wrestlers outside the ring, she vaults to the top rope and hits her famous Swanton Bomb into the trio.

Once sufficient of the group have recovered, however, it's back to action. They pair off; Dangerous takes Makuda (while Azaria sprays purple prose about their wars in Japan) and Stone takes on McFly (while Silver stresses the family relationship and how it connects to their studies, styles, and training).

From there, it's a question of finding the right moment; JeriLynn gets the pin, however, counting McFly's shoulders to the mat off a Girl's Best Friend.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/TommyCornell_alt1jt.jpg

Backstage, in the often-seen cafeteria area, Tommy Cornell sits, hunched, over one of the tables, going over sheets of paper with a biro.

In quite a few of these scenes of late, the seat next to Cornell has been occupied by RDJ, one of the Texas Outlaws – but not this time. It stands empty.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/AaronAndrews-1.jpg

After a few moments another arrives at the table. “Boss?”

Cornell glances upward and smiles slightly. “Aaron, hey,” he begins. “Take a seat. I'm just seeing if I can scare up a spare-”

“Twenty million?”

Cornell winces, but nods. “I only managed to pull ten together first time. I know it's not going to happen, but I keep feeling like I should be able to sort something out...”

Aaron nods. “I'd help, boss, but – well, at my age you kind of need Wolf's career to be anywhere near that kind of money.”

“Ah... don't worry about it.” He sighs. “Did you want something?”

Aaron hesitates. “Uh... kind of. But if we can't get the money together, asking to be the one up against Remo isn't going to help much, is it?”

There's a pause. Cornell sits back, looking directly at Aaron for the first time. “You want Remo?”

Aaron nods unhesitatingly. “Back when he set his sights on you, he told me I was on his list, we could go at it if he wanted. Well... that was, what, four or five months back? I didn't feel ready then.

“I do, now. And he's getting to the point where someone needs to shut him down.”

Cornell hesitates, then nods. “I'm going to see what favours I can beg, Aaron. But if we can get you that shot, it'll happen. Promise you that.”

Double J w/ Adrian Garcia vs. Giant Tana & Rhino Umaga

The power advantage is not with ELITE here, but there's a lot of skill between those two. Maverick pulls out a remarkable effort in working over Tana one knee at a time, forcing the big Samoan into an almost immovable position.

Joe Money, meanwhile, does his level best to work around Umaga's power, trying to keep it light and fast, preventing the Rhino from bringing everything he has to bear.

The Samoans do have a remarkable knack for coming back from this, but after a while, they do get worn down. With an interesting application of a facelock, Maverick goes over the top rope, dragging Tana over the top behind him and down to the outside.

That frees Money up to finally make his move. Umaga eats the Wall Street Crash, affording Double J the pinfall.

Christian Faith & Sean Deeley w/ Floyd Bowman & Laura Huggins

A real clash in styles between Faith and the rest of this crew, but Christian Faith has faced off with technicians his whole career. He knows how to make that a good thing, make it important, take a beating and come back from it.

For the first little while, the Protocol do fairly well against their opponents, though the sheer power of Faith allows him to hold his own. Somewhere along the line Kirk Jameson tries a slingshot lariat, and Deeley ducks it – which means Jameson hits Eugene Williams, laying him out.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/MikeyJames.jpg

When Mikey James hits the ring just seconds later, the announce team start debating whether or not Jameson deliberately went after the ref with a telegraphed move – but then the tempo picks up.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JohnMaverick-1.jpg

While James assaults Deeley, Faith comes in to defend him. Between Sean's natural wiles and a volley of Faith Hammers, Mikey gets only a couple of big kicks in – and then John Maverick slides into the ring, chop blocking Faith down and immediately locking in a vicious, highly illegal jigoku jime-style chokehold, cutting off the flood of blow and oxygen to the brain.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/RhinoUmaga.jpg

Only Rhino Umaga's arrival breaks the stalemate as he shoulderblocks Technique down, allowing him and Deeley to rescue Faith. Umaga whips Maverick over the top rope and runs him off, with Deeley stalling until Faith recovers, nailing a Leap of Faith to pin Warren Technique.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/SammyBach_alt1.jpg vs. http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/TroyTornado_nacht6.jpg

Sammy Bach vs. Troy Tornado

Serious frustration in the lines of Bach's body as he waits for Tornado to come down. As the cage lowers they circle, and for once – for once – Tornado doesn't have a slight, anticipatory smile on his lips as the match begins.

They circle, careful, and close in – forearms by Tornado! An early move to brawling! He staggers Bach, looks for a strong whip – Sammy holds on, tries to reverse, but Tornado won't go – stiff kicks to the midsection by Bach – strong whip! Tornado crashes into the steel.

Sammy immediately looks to capitalise, dropkicking him straight back into the unforgiving metal. As Troy staggers back a third time, Bach is kipping up. He aims another big kick – Troy manages to duck it out of nowhere and short-range spears Sammy down.

Rising, Tornado grabs Bach's legs, tucking them under his arms. He sets up and falls back, slingshotting Sammy into the steel in his turn. Tornado nods to himself in satisfaction, mounting the downed Bach and firing off quick, staccato punches to the face.

After a while of that he stands up, drags Bach to his feet, and boots him in the gut. The DDT attempt is blocked, though, with Sammy twisting clear and decking Troy with a short-arm lariat. He drops to his knees in turn, grabbing Tornado's head and repeatedly bouncing the back of it off the canvas.

“This is not a typical contest for either of these men,” Azaria says. “This thing has gotten about as personal as it can.”

Troy manages to kick Bach off, nailing him in the back of the head to do so. With both men up, Troy makes with the big shoulderblock, taking Bach down a second time with a second shoulderblock as he rises, then whipping him into the corner.

A picture-perfect dropkick smashes the back of Sammy's head into the steel. Tornado rolls backward, rising, and lands a beautiful, crisp backdrop as Bach staggers forward. Troy promptly climbs to the top rope, soaring backward into a moonsault.

He drags Sammy back to his feet again and drags him across to the steel, raking Sammy's face across the wire for a few moments. Sammy manages to brace both feet against the mesh and kicks backward, bringing them both crashing down to the canvas, where the Darkwave rock god rolls onto his front, cradling his head in pain.

There's a fair while before either man makes it to their feet – indeed, Sam Sparrow makes it all the way to the count of eight before Troy is fully upright, and at that point, Sammy is on his knees, blood dripping from his forehead.

Tornado drags Sammy up – attempts a powerbomb – Sammy rolls it through! Pinning predicament by Sammy Bach! ONE, TWO – NO!

Bach aims a couple of stomps, then heads across the ring. He steps through the ropes, gripping the top rope, checking his feet placement, eyes on the ground as Azaria notes that he's clearly setting up his famous coast-to-coast bulldog. He pauses to wipe some blood out of his eyes – Tornado drives him back against the steel with a dropkick!

Sammy's trapped between the ropes, and Troy takes full advantage. Kicks, punches, chops and the occasional shoulder barge all work Bach over until he manages to fight back, raking Tornado's eyes. He finally does leap to the top rope, coming off with a double-stomp to the slightly-stooped back of Tornado.

Sammy nods in triumph, then stamps down on Tornado's head, smashing it against the mat. Blood spurts and Troy clutches at his nose, spasming.

Bach looks down on him with that crazy post-orgasmic smile, then raises his hand again to wipe the blood away from his brow. He pauses, looking at the blood, and seems to be coming to a decision.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/JackBruce_alt8.jpg

And then Jack Bruce arrives outside. He stands beside the cage.

Bach looks across at him and smiles. He drags Tornado back to his feet and measures him for the Adrenaline Shot.

When he aims the kick, Tornado seems to come to life. He ducks it and launches into an immediate Whirlwind Kick, putting Bach down. A cover! ONE, TWO, TH- NO!

Troy sighs, rising, then turning. He comes face to face with Bruce and the pair have a staredown. The expression on Troy's face is unreadable.

Bach nails him from behind. Three forearms stun Troy. He races past the 'triple threat champion', hits the ropes, and nails a crisp flying forearm. On the ground, he scans the situation.

Jack Bruce is now on the apron, holding on to the cage. He beckons to Bach, who nods, rising and starting to climb.

Bruce climbs too. The pair meet at the top of the cage – and Bruce nails Bach with a straight right!

Bach falls backward, turning head over heels – or rather, vice versa. In the ring, Tornado is back upright – he catches the twisting Bach on his way down – TORNADO DRIVER! Cover! ONE, TWO, THREE!

Jack Bruce scrambles back down the cage with a broad grin before it rises. Troy Tornado – weary and bloody – is nonetheless smiling, the rock star wrestler again.

On the outside of the ring, the pair embrace tightly, all smiles, before Bruce raises his arm in celebration.

The live feed cuts away and a video replaces it. To the sounds of Malice in Wonderland's official theme tune – Tell Me Where It Hurts by Halestorm – we see a quick recap package of Frankie Perez' problems with Rhino Umaga, starting with the six-man match where Umaga 'cost' Perez a shot at the International Championship, through Perez' interference in Umaga's matches and calling him out, and building to Perez betraying TCW for payback on Umaga.

That recap fades out to

This flows into a further recap; much of this is cribbed from the Wolf Hawkins portion of the Year in Review piece from Psycho Circus, but it's cut differently, framed differently; Hawkins choosing to wrestle two matches at last Malice in Wonderland; winning the Shot at the Top match but losing the tag team match against the Rising Stars, betraying Cornell to found Generation Omega, calling Cornell out, attacking him in matches, Cornell's flat refusal to respond, the 'anything you can do, I can do better' sequence of matches from late 2009, the declaration of Cornell forced into a Malice match for the championship, and his bid to drop the belt from Wolf Hawkins before that. Finally, as the song wraps, the tagline:

MALICE IN WONDERLAND

NIGHT TWO

MENTOR. PROTEGE. THE BEST IN THE WORLD

Glad to see the internet-style updates are going down well with some folks; they take way too long to do, but I enjoy them.

(Somewhat surprised nobody's commented on the revelations that Elimination Protocol and the Fly Boys made it into the Power 100, though)

Adrian Dangerous is 29 now, a just-barely-former WLW Champion, with a C+/C/B+ top row now, B- Entertainment and Performance.

Richard is 31. He's yet to hold a title, partly because WLW and SWF are where he's worked and neither are terribly pro-Technician. He runs C+/B+/D+, with B+ Performance and B Entertainment.

Kate was designed to be the best of them. At 29, the older twin has B-/B/B+ (and that B+ really surprises me, but she's grown), with A performance and A Entertainment.

Every single one of those averages for all three is up at least two notches since the game began two years ago now, so I assume they all had solid Destiny rolls. Spending a year apiece in touring promotions has likely also helped.

I've gotten lucky with all three, but I confess I'm quite happy about that. It plays up the Dangerous angle quite nicely.

That is one of the most surprising grades I've seen, to be honest. Tooth & Claw are horribly unpopular, and Fly Boys can't be...past lower-mid.

And you know this how? Have you seen the amount of work PhantomStranger's put into his cards these days? It's not surprising at all. He's been pulling B's from his lower end of his works for months now.

I don't remember a B from two groups as low as I think those guys are on the card. Admittedly, I don't remember a hell of a lot of stuff, but it stood out to me.

Donnie, Jimmy, and Lobo Blanco are midcarders. Air Attack Weasel/American Eagle is stuck at Opener, but also has the world's best selling skill.

Card-position-wise, this is roughly equivalent to the B earlier this month from Acid Dragon vs. Tooth & Claw.

Acid Dragon/Balcony Express, start of December, B+.

That's about as far back as I can be bothered to go on the main history page. Let's have a look at early Elimination Protocol...

Team VIPER/Elimination Protocol, their 6th match in TCW proper, B.

November, Conquering Kings/Elimination Protocol, B.

Elemental Energy? AmEl's still an opener who started here with a bare 23 US overness... B against the Protocol, November.

If I wanted to do a full analysis, I could probably find a lot, but really, there's no reason to.

I'd say a B is around my assumed grade for a tag match these days but truth be told, I stopped worrying about non-ME gradeouts a while ago.

EDIT: Bear in mind, TCW is a juggernaut now. One of my biggest problems is not accidentally creating an ego, because someone like Joe Money can come in with B- US overness and have A* in some areas now, less than two weeks later.

  • The British Lions put their title on the line in the opening contest against Eric Tyler and Freddy Huggins. A great match was spoiled when Koshiro Ino distracted Tyler, allowing Morgan to lock him into the Wigan Wrench and score a submission. (Rating: B)
  • In an Enforcers backstage meeting, Jack Marlowe instructs Brandon to take the CGC Canadian Title from Ryan Powell because that way everyone will pay for BoH main event matches if they want to earn the title... or just win by thrown match.
  • Ryan Powell's CGC Canadian Championship was on the line against the Bulldozer next, but with a Powell Plunge the champion retained in his first outing in front of TCW fans. (Rating: C)
  • Danny Fonzarelli bravely stepped up to take on Matthew Keith, who made short work of him. (Rating: B)
  • Zoe Ammis came out and claimed that JeriLynn got her shots because she was Stone-trained. Well, Ammis is DeColt trained, and asked for a title match to celebrate the upcoming decider at Malice – and JeriLynn came out to agree. The match is set for Showcase.
  • Acid Dragon combined well to defeat masked luchadors El Leon and Ultimate Phoenix, with Acid pinning Leon off the Acid Rain Bomb. (Rating: B)
  • Jeremy Stone told Davis Wayne Newton that if he wanted to get into training levels, he should watch this next match – where Stone would beat a man who took Stone's best student to the limit.
  • Stone then defeated Kirk Jameson, pinning him with the Delorean Driver to further make a point. (Rating: B)
  • In the main event, the first slot in the Shot At The Top ladder match was decided when Eddie Chandler forced Rocky Golden to submit to the Fabulous Stretch. Of course, he did load the dice, as ELITE's Jacob Jett and Dan DaLay both arrived to do damage to Golden. (Rating: B+)

I'm guessing you are still popularity-equals-performance, right? It's a lot harder to pull off B matches in popularity-based promotions, especially ones that are heavily so.

I think it's still the original TEW08 product except with women wrestling. I can't recall whether I got around to upping Modern a notch off the big Edd push or just didn't bother, but I think I didn't bother.

So yeah.

The first of six entrants into the Shot At the Top match has been determined... and it's Eddie Chandler of ELITE, much to the displeasure of many of our fans. (Believe me, I know. I moderate the forums.)

The first match this Saturday will determine the second entrant. While I'd consider either of these men a long shot to win the World Heavyweight Championship should they cash in the Ticket To The Top, they will - if they win - have up to a year to reach that level. And you could say that at the start of 2008, no one would have predicted Wolf Hawkins' dominant reign through 2009 and into 2010. So whoever wins - Canadian Elemental or UK Dragon - can't be ruled out. Both men have shown true skills already. Either national icon could be a worthy champion...

Tag team action is set to follow, as Elimination Protocol look to notch up the third victory of their young tag team careers - against Golden Law. Rick and Rocky are rebuilding at present, but have been vulnerable lately...

A match made last night next; the TCW Womens Championship, held by the House of Stone, is put on the line against a student of the DeColts. JeriLynn Stone defends against Zoe Ammis - and a case could be made that this is a preview of the big Malice in Wonderland battle between the families.

Double J, as ELITE's primary tag team is known, made a huge impact earlier in the week. They now look to make a real statement - and their opponents are former tag champions. The Kreed make a real challenge - but can they turn aside TCW's newest stable, the self-proclaimed 'only real gang of professional wrestling'?

The Best of Seven series continues on, with champion Sean Deeley down two against one as we head into match four. Can Freddy cement his lead, or will Sean even the score here?

And in the main event, the House of Stone collides with Generation Omega. Jeremy Stone and Sean McFly face off against Joey Minnesota and Marc DuBois.

Prediction Key:

SHOT AT THE TOP QUALIFIER #2

Canadian Elemental vs. UK Dragon

Elimination Protocol vs. Golden Law

TCW Womens Championship

JeriLynn Stone © vs. Zoe Ammis

Double J w/ Adrian Garcia vs. the Kreed
