UK Dragon vs. Panda Mask II

If we ever make a Panda Mask II Best Of DVD, this would be on it. But that’s not saying much. UK Dragon dominated, as expected, and Panda Mask was left to do what he does not-quite-so-badly-as-everything-else: make his opponent look dominant. Certain fans still managed to find time during his being ripped apart to make derisive comments about Panda II’s wrestling ability though.

Transition – General Hayashi

After the short match, The General was spotted by the cameras and displayed on the big screen, watching proceedings from the production desk. He looked generally unimpressed, and soon scarpered when he noticed he was being watched. The commentators couldn’t resist arguing over who would look more ridiculous, Rogue Panda Mask SF or Rogue UK Dragon SF. The verdict was Dragon, since anything they could do to Panda’s mask would be an improvement.

Diamond Furusawa, Dynamite Narahashi and Mokuami Maita vs. Shining Silver Force

Furusawa had drafted in Mokuami Maita, who stood out plainly as the best wrestler on his team, to take on a SSF who were starting to gel really well as a stable, despite several of the Panda-haters turning their attention to Shining Shibanuma during this match. To a much lesser extent though, as Shibanuma is ‘nearly there’ in terms of basics and psychology.

Even so, most of this match was conducted between Maita and Narato, with Narato generally coming off worse. Shining Shibanuma got in some token offence, flipping around and diving off the top rope, though that was mainly to stop the illegal men on the heel side interfering. The match took a turn for the worse for the heels near the end though, when an exhausted Maita stumbled back to his corner for a tag and the relatively fresh Diamond Furusawa stepped up for his team. After a Shining Splash to the floor had dealt with Narahashi (who was illegally continuing an earlier fight with Narato on the outside), the Diamond was promptly taken apart by Silver Shark, succoming to the Jaws of Life.

Flash and Phoenix vs. Dean Daniels and Beetle Kimura

Quite why or how this was so high on the card, nobody knew, and it was pretty much a disaster (I suspect some misuse of the 'Move Segment Down' button). Phoenix isn’t even a ‘decent’ wrestler yet, although the road agents say he has potential, and Kimura is far too interested in playing to the fans. So Daniels and Flash had to do most of the wrestling, and nobody really cares about either of them. Daniels got the win for his team, with very little help, pinning Phoenix after a Cradle Piledriver.

Promo – Emerald Angel

Business soon picked up, as we headed backstage to the interview wall, where Isei Deushi stood with Emerald Angel. Angel cut a vicious promo on Dark Eagle, calling him a coward and a fraud. He said that Eagle had lost the one time he faced him in the ring one-on-one, but couldn’t let it lie, and has cheated, lied, and ambushed Angel everywhere he’s been since. But it stops tonight. If Eagle wants to taste more of the Emerald Fury, Angel says, he’ll have to wait until Power & Glory, where the two of them will face off for the WLW Universal Title. On one condition – no member of the Circle of Blood or anyone affiliated with them, paid by them, cajoled into it by them, or in any way connected with them - In fact, nobody at all - is to interfere in anything Angel does until then. Otherwise, all bets are off.

Acid and Karasu vs. Americana and Firefox Inao

Another bland match, what was going on tonight? This match had all of the ingredients for a decent bout, but clearly the chef wasn't reading the recipe. Toxic Vitality, as Deushi reffered to them, worked well as a team here and Takayama's references to 'what The Circle are missing out on' were many and often. Americana got in most of his well known moves, bt the fans didn't really seem to care like they did when he first arrived. Inao was 'just kinda there' for the most part, which considering the circumstances of the match is probably not surprising. Acid and the Blood Raven took this one, with a Raven Driver III on Americana.

The Incredible KOYAMA vs. Bairei Yasujiro

That’s not gone well. This pairing doesn’t click at all, and my main event tonight isn’t the type of bout I’m expecting massively great things from. This was supposed to steal the show, and despite the great ability possessed by both workers, didn’t. Bairei couldn't sell cheese to a Frenchman, so spent most of the match on the offensive with Koyama forced into the odd position of a heel underdog, which rather suits his character of late. Despite a spirited comeback that nobody wanted to see, Koyama was undone just after the twelve minute mark when he missed an Incredible Moonsault and was made to pay for it in the currency of a Yasu-plex.

Transition – The Great Hisato

The Great Hisato is wondering around backstage. Several crewmembers he passes have confused looks on their faces, as he wasn’t scheduled to be here tonight. As the camera catches up, we can hear he’s mumbling to himself. Suddenly he stops, grabs a crew member by his shirt and demands “Where’s Narita?!”. The crewmember doesn’t know, as Awesome Thunder isn’t scheduled to be here tonight. Neither is Hisato, the brave idiot reminds him, and gets thrown into some handily-placed equipment storage boxes for his trouble. Takayama comments that clearly things aren't as rosy between the pair as they seemed last week.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c297/HeavyMetalJesus/KokiIshibashi.jpg

Koji Kojima vs. KOKI Ishibashi

They went one better than I expected, I must admit. Deushi explains for the fans that this bout came about as part of the ongoing saga that began at Fame and Fortune. Essentially, the former Tag Team Champions – The Power Trip – are claiming that The Circle of Blood duo are corrupting ‘their’ tag team championships with their evil blight. Ishibashi won’t agree to a rematch, as he feels they don’t deserve one having just lost the belts, but granted Kojima a one-on-one bout because he wanted to shut him up.

The result was a decent main event, thankfully. Free of his useless lump of a best friend, Kojima had chance to prove that he's more than just 'the boss', he's a damn fine wrestler too. The match was far more mat-based than most WLW matches tend to be, since Ishibashi is very technically-minded, but this proved to be a bonus as it made the match something different. Kojima had slightly more of the match than Ishibashi would’ve liked, so of course he had to resort to cheating to get the victory by using the ropes for leverage on a pinfall attempt after the KOKI Revolution.

As for Americana and Koyama... Americana's gimmick is 'getting stale'. Luckily, I have plans for him anyway in that regard. Watch out for the beginning of season two. ;)

Koyama is a hot prospect for sure, but he looks too much like Odo from Deep Space Nine. :p He'll be sticking around though, he's a tag team champion after all!

D's aren't bad I guess, considering our popularity. But I've seen Americana and Acid produce a C from the Lower Midcard (Acid is now a Midcarder), so I've come to expect that from the rest of the midcard. Which is sort of unfair, since the midcard includes Haru Kurofuji...

Thanks for following by the way! :)

Keep in mind the AI gets major boosts to their popularity.

With RIPW I ran the exact same card as a different game I simmed and just about every match got a full grade boost for the AI, which was especially odd because the economy and industry were even worse off in the sim game then in mine.

The AI can pull D+ matches out of people like Brendan Idol and Cheetah Boy easy peasy while I had to bring in talent to get even a 'D' from the most popular wrestler...

Anyway, still following along and catching up. I'm struggling because I'm completely unfamiliar with the Japanese scene, but this is making me want to catch up on that regard because WLW usually becomes the dominant Japanese wrestling force.

(I'm planning an after-tour summary and roster overview which should help with that, praguepride. Hang on in there ;) As an FYI, this is a bit of a short tour compared to 'normal' tours, as I was just getting the hang of things, so we only have seven 'tour shows' (i.e., we have Night Five, Night Six and Night Seven to go, then Power and Glory to end the tour))

Bairei Yasujiro, Hell Monkey and Firefox Inao vs. Mokuami Maita, UK Dragon and Dean Daniels

A good opening match, as you'd expect given the calibre of the opposition. The babyface team had the obvious advantage of skill and popularity with the fans, but the heels turned out to be capable opponents, as their similar styles and mindsets proved to be a bonus to their teamwork. They were able to cut the ring in half well in the early going, singling out Inao for five minutes while they made frequent tags to stay fresh, but Firefox eventually managed to escape under the ropes to the outside, and Hell Monkey took advantage of WLW's lucha libre-influenced tag team rules to become the legal man. Then things took a turn for the worse for the heel trio.

Later, Monkey and Maita exchanged blows, with Maita's stinging chops ringing through the arena, to 'oooh's from the crowd, while Monkey would return with a stiff kick to the chest. This went on for some time, until Maita was physically forced onto his arse by the impact, and Monkey took in the crowd's applause as he tagged in Yasujiro. Maita wasn't finished with him yet though, and sprang to his feet, chasing the now-illegal man to the outside and assaulting him from behind, leaving Yasujiro and Dragon in the ring. Dragon, suffering the effects of a Primate Plunge (double underhook backbreaker) from earlier, found it hard going against the rejuvenated Yasujiro, and soon fell victim to the Yasuplex.

Confrontation – The Circle Of Blood

Backstage, Magnum Kobe is seen warming up for his match (a rare sight indeed), when The Avalanche Effect burst in, annoyed. They take turns in berating Kobe for his attitude and general lack of team spirit. Ishibashi reckons that Kobe’s three matches at Power and Glory mean he should be working three times harder to prepare, not three times in total.

Kobe largely ignores them during their rant, but once they finish he stops his workout abruptly and turns to face them, mocking Koyama for losing so much recently (ignoring the fact that one of those losses was due to Kobe being too lazy to compete, which Koki tries to point out), and says that team spirit is only needed in a team, and the Circle of Blood isn’t much of one.

He questions where Dark Eagles is, and why Acid spends more time with Ketsueki Karasu – who Eagle wouldn’t allow into the Circle – than he does with his Circle ‘brothers’ these days. Then he storms out, leaving Koki and Koyami looking at each other, bewildered.

Japanese Flash vs. Beetle Kimura

One of the worst booking ideas of recent times, as the crowd just weren’t interested in either competitor. Astonishingly, they managed such a poor match despite actually having good chemistry together. If they’d been in a training dojo, it might’ve been entertaining, but unfortunately they seemed to forget that there were fans in the arena who were supposed to care. Kimura won, after Flash tapped to the Kimura Lock.

Kazuma Narato vs. Diamond Furusawa

A decent match between the two midcarders. Furusawa must have realised that he needs to earn his next tour contract, and these two, again, have good chemistry together. With General Hayashi watching on veteran spot monkey did his best, but it wasn't enough to defeat 'The Force'. Narato won out with a Narato Stunner.

Insane Machine vs. Acid

A case of poor chemistry was evident in an otherwise good match. You could see what they were trying to do, but something just wasn’t right and neither wrestler was really at fault. Acid's aerial assault was as sharp as ever, but he often had to wait for Machine to get into position for moves, and Machine himself found that communicating his intentions was difficut at times, which resulted in a sickeningly stiff Termination Kick that was ironically supposed to miss.

This brought Ketsueki Karasu out from the back as an interference runner to allow Acid time to get back to his feet, and climb the turnbuckle for an Acid Rain Bomb, as Ketsueki Karasu looked on from ringside, emotionless as ever.

Skit – Hayashi’s Army

Backstage, Rogue Toyokuni and Rogue Matsuo are crouching at the corner of a corridor, with police batons in their hands. Matuso gloats that "if Eguchi is really from the future, he should’ve seen this coming!"

They advance down the corridor in typical Special Forces fashion, before kicking down a door and mercilessly beating the two figures inside. As the camera catches up, we see a figure in a blue Tic costume, and one in a silver suit, laying limp on the floor. Matsuo and Toyokuni look at each other and tap fists.

“Looking for someone, boys?” says a smirking Eguchi from the doorway. “Or did the hotel’s bedding really annoy you that much?” He giggles and runs away as the Special Forces Agents begin to give chase, but not before Toyokui rips a pillow in half in anger.

Interview – Dark EAGLE

In front of the WLW Interview Wall was Dark Eagle. He seemed oblivious to the earlier Circle of Blood incident with Kobe in the locker room as he talked about how not touching Emerald Angel until Power and Glory was fine by him.

"Every feeling of anger or hatred. Every violent urge. Every thought and dream of blood. I'll save them up, all of them. I'll store them all up inside my twisted, black, husk of a heart. And at Power and Glory, I'll let you have them all!"

Magnum KOBE vs. Americana - for the WLW Showstealer Title

- For the WLW Showstealer Title -

Usually Kobe likes to conduct affairs with the minimum amount of effort possible to win, but tonight that minimum was raised significantly against Americana, who came the closest of anyone so far to beating Kobe and taking away his Showstealer title. With the outcome - let's be honest - pretty much a foregone conclusion, this was all about showing off Americana's aerial and technical prowess. It wasn’t to be, though. With an eye gouge here, and a refusal to break a hold there, KOBE wore down Americana until the American tapped out to a Magnum Deathlock.

The Avalanche Effect vs. Shining Silver

- For the WLW Tag Team Titles -

A disappointing main event, as Shining Shibanuma is still not loved by some of the fans. Nevertheless, he did what he could, but left the bulk of the wrestling to Silver Shark. Koyama was unable to cut off the ring as well as he'd have liked, allowing Shark and Shibanuma to tag each other at will and Shining Silver looked like becoming the new WLW Tag Team champions for a while until things were shaken up a bit by the arrival of the Great Hisato. Hisato hit the ring with the usual pomp and ceremony, his long golden cloak sweeping down the ramp behind him, and try as they might, Shining Silver found it rather difficult to concentrate on the matter at hand with him at ringside. They found it even more difficult after Hisato nailed Shibanuma in the face and left him for Koyama to pin.

Remember the AI tends to rock with WLW due to no repeat booking penalty. Also looking at her attendances the economy and wrestling industry must be in the dumps in Japan atm and that really effects them as well altough I don't know if it effects show grades as well.

I have no idea how are you getting such bad grades. Overall grade of D..? .. With WLW?

Thanks for the encouragement! :p Hehe.

Part of the problem on that show was the lack of main eventers in the main event (Koki is upper mid and he's the highest)... And the fact that the semi-main was better than the main... I would have more Emerald Angel, but he's carrying a slight injury so best not. I guess it's the penalty for having story telling taking precedence over high ratings.

Next show should make up for it ;)

Anyhow, I'm enjoying the read so far. I know very little about WLW, aside from what I remember from Trekkie's old diary, and so it's nice to read about a fed that I'm not very familiar with.

Dynamite Narahashi vs. Insane Machine

As is becoming common in these lower-tier singles matches, General Hayashi was watching on as these two battled out a fairly good opening bout. Machine controlled the majority of the match pretty well, but Narahashi proved to be simply biding his time, and just as Machine thought he was going to end it, exploded into action. After a great series of impact moves, hit his Detonator DDT (a Tornado DDT planting the opponent right on the top of his head, most lightweight workers sell it by staying their for a second or two as if they're doing a headstand, then crumpling to the mat). That was enough (just) for the surprise victory.

Transition - General Hayashi

Instead of rushing off as he usually does, Hayashi stood at the top of the ramp tonight and openly congratulated Narahashi. Shining Silver Force vs. Acid, Ketsueki Karasu and UK Dragon

The subject of this match wasn’t so much the action as the story behind it, which is probably why the live crowd didn’t react much. Acid of the Circle teaming with Ketsueki Karasu – who’s been rejected by the Circle on more than one occasion – and UK Dragon, tag team partner of Acid pre-Circle, who hasn't had much to do with him since. The three heels-by-technicality (Dragon is a heel, at least) garnered a very mixed rection from the crowd. No such reaction for the SSF trio though; their recent bouts with Thunder and Hisato had started to gain them a following, not to mention momentum (though not so much here in Kyushu due to the lack of TV). Acid and co. put up a decent (if somewhat distracted) fight, but in the end Shining Silver Force walked out the victors after Narato hit Dragon with a Narato Stunner as Shining Shibanuma simultaneously dropkicked the other two off the apron to avoid interference.

Confrontation – The Circle Of Blood

As the combatants left the arena, the cameras went backstage, where Dark Eagle and The Avalanche Effect were standing in wait. They let SSF pass (though Ishibashi and Koyama kept a watchful eye on them), and then barred the corridor, forcing Acid and his new friends to stop.

Dark Eagle: “Acid? What treachery is this?! You are one of the Circle! Why are you siding with outsiders?” He glances at Karasu, “especially this one! One we have rejected twice already! Do you think that by allying yourself with him, you will force us to accept him? Because with what I’ve just witnessed, it’s having the opposite effect...”

Instead of Acid (who can barely talk at all with any sort of conviction, let alone in Japanese), Karasu steps forward. His Spanish accent made the Japanese words sound odd, but he was perfectly understandable to the crowd.

Karasu: “My application to join the Circle has long been rescinded, Dark One. The shambolic nature of your leadership has made the Circle a laughing stock. The blind cannot lead the blind, so those that see have left you behind. Where, may I ask, is Kobe-san?”

Eagle snarls at the mere mention of Magnum Kobe, and Karasu’s mouth twists into his version of a smile. Acid steps up next to the Blood Raven and awkwardly spouts forth the few Japanese words Karasu had taught him – the only words he needed to know.

Acid: “I leave now. Goodbye.”

He walks off, barging through the stunned barricade in front of him. Karasu follows suit, as does Dragon, as Dark Eagle yells curses and threats at the trio. "Leaving?! There is no 'leaving'! You are one of the Circle! The Circle will not break for you, or for anyone!"

Promo – Future Eguchi And The Tic

Our resident super heroes are sat backstage on some equipment crates. Tic is pacing up and down, anxious to ‘patrol for evil-doers’, but Eguchi reassures him that more important things are at hand.

Eguchi: “The General has found a third recruit for his army. This much is clear. Which one? Nobody is sure, perhaps not even Hayashi himself, but one thing remains clear: We are outnumbered now, Tic-san. For the moment, at least…”

The Tic nods, before replying in serviceable, if not brilliant, Japanese.

The Tic: “And how is getting our behind kicked by Hisato and Thunder going to help, Friend of The Light?”

Eguchi frowns.

Eguchi: “It’s not, I admit. This was a hurdle I didn’t see coming. But we have to fight them. They may not be truly evil, or our main concern, but they are nevertheless opponents of the Light! In a, round-about sort of way…”

The Tic: “I smell the work of the Evil One! Knowing we are too strong for his army, he has done this! He has put them in our path to slow us down! Well it will not work…”

Eguchi looks dubious, but figures it’s as good an explanation as any and secretly wishes he’d thought of it.

Eguchi: “To arms, my brother! His plan shall fail!”

The evil-fighting duo charge out of the door, eager to get it over with.

Not a match the main event pair will be remembered for, but considering their opponents that was to be expected. Both Eguchi and Tic apparently got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning too (not the same one, we hope), but that didn’t seem to have a drastic effect. Maybe this was because they spent the vast majority of the match getting their arses kicked. Hisato and Thunder on the other hand still can’t be said to have been on the same page (at one point, Hisato was wandering around ringside, and could be heard asking fans “does my cloak swish when I go around corners?”) while Thunder took a beating (relatively speaking) in the ring. Later Eguchi was able to sneak up on Thunder while he was arguing with Hisato and roll him up for a highly optimistic one-count. But teamwork wasn’t really necessary here, as a Thunder Shock on The Tic soon proved.

Confrontation – Mokuami Maita and Firefox Inao

Backstage, Mokuami Maita is embroiled in a heated argument with Firefox Inao. The pair are yelling over each other unintelligibly, the words ‘title’, ‘tap out’ and ‘showstealer’ are mentioned a lot. Eventually Maita’s manager, Mr. Miwa, gets them both to calm down, and only then do the TV audience notice that Isei Deushi is there as well, totally helpless to conduct the scheduled interview.

Miwa: “Inao-san, all my client is trying to say is that he’s above the Tap Out title. It has never meant anything to anyone, and it was the last title Kobe won, as a token gesture of dominance against UK Dragon of all people. The Showstealer belt is where his interest lies. That belt has the credibility, and has had some truly great previous owners.”

Maita nods in agreement, but Inao doesn't seem pleased.

Deushi: "Maita isn’t known for his show-stealing qualities. That's all Firefox was saying. He can make you tap faster than almost anyone, but he’s not the high-flying super junior the fans expect the Showstealer champion to be... Maita is a fantastic submission wreslter and would have a great shot at the Tap Out belt, while Firefox himself will admit that's where he would be... less effective.”

Miwa: “You don’t have to spend your life flying around the ring to be a show stealer. My client is eager to prove that. Let him have the Showstealer match, and Inao can take another belt. Kobe has very little chance in the Street Fighting title match, since it’s the one where he’s least competent... and he'll already have been softened up by then.”

The argument almost threatens to break out again, before Deushi comes up with a plan.

Deushi: “Well, in the time-honoured tradition, why not settle it in the ring tonight? The winner can have the title match of his choice; the loser can fight over what’s lef...”

All parties seemed happy with that, so the Babyfaced Assassin and the Firefox headed for the ring, still arguing amongst themselves.

Mokuami Maita vs. Firefox Inao

-Winner gets to choose which of Kobe’s titles they challenge for at Power and Glory-

This was a good match, clearly showing off both men’s strengths and weaknesses, as Inao showed exactly why he should be facing Kobe for the Showstealer Title. Maita didn’t make much ground in that regard, but his style pleased the fans too in its own way – there’s no doubt both performers are very good at what they do. In the end though, it came down to who had more to give on the night, and despite kicking out of an Assassination Attempt neckbreaker this wasn’t to be Inao’s night, as he was forced to tap out to a Maita Clutch. On commentary, Mr. Miwa confirmed that Maita would indeed be challenging for Kobe’s Showstealer title, and Inao would have to make do with either the Streetfighting belt or the Tap Out title.

"Even though he just won by submission?" asks Deushi, dumbfounded.

Koji Kojima vs. The Incredible KOYAMA

After losing a singles bout last week against Ishibashi, it was important for Kojima to score a win here against the other half of the tag team champions. Koki was dutifully watching the match from ringside, offering advice to his younger partner, but Kurofuji was nowhere to be seen. To his credit, Ishibashi didn’t physically involve himself in the match at all, which is a shame for Koyama, as he could’ve done with the help. After a strong but by no means dominant performance, Kojima hit the Koji Kutter for the win.

Dark EAGLE vs. Bairei Yasujiro

Could we top that last match? Yes, yes we could. I knew I could rely on Barry Chuckle (seriously, for a babyface he doesn’t smile much...). Some great back-and-forth between our most hated heel and our most talented babyface (arguably, although he really can’t sell, which hampered this still-pretty-awesome match), with Eagle starting to look rather stressed at the Circle of Blood situation and his upcoming title shot, one must feel this really isn’t the time to be facing one of the best workers in the company. But he dealt with it, at least keeping up with Yasujiro if not exactly a paragon of fairness. However, towards the end of the match he got some unexpected help.

Down to ringside came Ketsueki Karasu, walking crouched as if not to be seen. As he got to ringside, he picked his moment – Yasujiro was slowly getting to his feet after being superplexed, and Eagle was standing behind him ready to strike, probably with an Eagle’s Talon (Mandible Claw). However, just as the Blood Mist was expelled from Karasu’s mouth, Yasujiro stood up, earning himself a face full of mist.

Karasu was as emotionless as ever as he walked back up the ramp, but while Eagle got the pinfall victory, the commentators were having a hot debate as to whether the Mist was meant for Yasujiro, or for Eagle.

Unapologetic filler to get us underway tonight. Interview – Hayashi’s Army

General Hayashi comes to the ring next, with Matsuo and Toyokuni following, they’re followed in turn by Diamond Furusawa and Dynamite Narahashi. The veteran and the youngster glare at each other – Furusawa looks bitter, Narahashi looks annoyed with life.

Hayashi: “I have brought before you people today two wrestlers whom I have been scouting recently. I have watched many matches, and scouted many individuals, but these two are among the best I have seen! Among the best of the candidates for the role of Lieutenant in my army!”

Furusawa brightens up at this, now that he thinks he has a chance. Narahashi still looks sour.

Hayashi: “So it is with great ceremony that I shall announce my newest recruit...”

He makes a show of pointing at Furusawa, then Narahashi, then back, until announcing...

Hayashi: “... The Insane Machine!”

The crowd boo half-heartedly, as Furusawa goes nuts and has to be held down by Toyokuni. Narahashi smiles with relief, and tries to calm his partner down. Before long, Insane Machine – in unchanged attire except for a beret on his head, comes marching down to the ring.

Hayashi: “The Army grows, WLW! One day, we will conquer all that we survey… but for now, I have arranged further training…”

Hayashi Special Forces and Insane Machine vs. Japanese Flash, Japanese Phoenix and Americana

This was as good as could be expected. Flash and Phoenix aren’t anywhere near HSF’s level, so the fans booed Hayashi for weaseling out of a real test, but Americana and Machine had a fairly good battle when their time came. In the end, Machine picked up the victory with a Termination kick on Japanese Phoenix.

Promo – Magnum KOBE

Backstage in front of the WLW interview wall, Magnum Kobe is standing with Isei Deushi. Deushi has so many questions to ask the illusive triple-champion that he’s come with a sheet of A4 paper with them written on, but Kobe isn’t interested in questions.

Kobe: “Maybe later, Izzy. For now, your triple champion is talking. It seems in recent weeks that I’ve come across as somewhat lazy. Somewhat lackluster. Someone even asked me this morning whether I even cared about these titles at all...”

He flexes each title-covered bicep in turn, and then gives a small pelvic thrust to draw attention to the Showstealer title around his waist.

Kobe: “Well, do I? Of course I do. Because these three titles mean I’m more awesome than anyone else in this company. Sure, Angel has his Universal championship, but does he have three of them? Did he beat The Incredible Koyama in a ladder match to win this? Did he then beat the Hell Monkey, of all people, in a streetfight that journalists are still calling the bloodiest match in WLW history, to win this? I doubt it. Did he then, after flying off ladders and crashing through tables for the delight of the fans... did he then take on UK Dragon, in a submission match, the very next month, and still come out the other end victorious?”

Kobe stares daggers at Deushi until he shakes his head.

Kobe: “No. No he damn well didn’t. But everyone loooves Angel, don’t they? He’s everyone’s God-damned hero! And what do I get? What thanks do I get for the sacrifices I made every damned day? With the weight of three titles on my shoulders and the attention of half the damned WLW roster... what thanks did I get? A round of applause here, a cheer there. Nobody loved Kobe. Nobody wanted Kobe to be their hero! So I went through the only door left to me. Forced through it, I was, by a country full of people supposedly known for their honour and respect for great warriors... my own countrymen. They forced me here!

Kobe grabs his blood-red hair in a fist, and shakes it at the camera.

Kobe: “This is what they made me become! And now they want me to put everything I’ve worked for, everything I’ve achieved, everything I’ve damn well earned on the line, in one night. Bam, bam, bam, just like that. You wanna know why, Izzy?"

Deushi was about to confirm that he did,but was never given the chance.

Kobe: "Of course you do. They’re doing this to me because they know that it’s the only way in hell they’re going to get those belts off me. They know that I’m The Showstealer, they know I can fight, and they know that when the chips are down, I can make you scream in pain just as well as anyone else. I’m the best thing this company, this country has ever known. They made me, they created this. Now they want to destroy me.”

Kobe: “Well that’s just fine. Wednesday night, at Power and Glory, that’ll all be just fine. Narato, you want your Streetfighting title back? Come and get it. I’ll be waiting. Maita, my friend, you’re right. You don’t have to be a flippy-floppy cruiserweight to be a Showstealer. You’re welcome to a shot. And you, Fox? Hah, good luck…”

Awesome Thunder vs. Silver Shark

A main event quality match (despite supposedly working the crowd) that perked the fans up considerably, even though it was fairly paint-by-numbers stuff. Both tag team partners were at ringside for this one, but neither interfered. Shark, outside of his tag team combinations, proved to be somewhat lacking against the Awesome Thunder, who was only in a tag team by accident with a partner who didn’t seem to care. This was a decent preview of Power and Glory, and Thunder took it with the Thundershock.

Transition – Dark EAGLE

Backstage, Dark Eagle is frantically power-walking down a hallway, shoving open doors and looking inside them. Up ahead, he spies someone wearing a replica Acid mask standing outside of the occupied toilet facilities in the arena, and despite quite obviously not being Acid (the kid was about 12) Eagle viciously attacked him anyway, ripping the mask off and yelling obscenities to it before tossing it aside and carrying on down the hallway.

The Great Hisato vs. Shining Shibanuma

Back in the ring, the teams swapped over and Hisato went toe to toe with Shibanuma. After a spell of some pretty decent wrestling (despite some aspects of the crowd not liking Shibanuma still), Hisato got the better of him and left him laying in the ring with a tornado DDT. Instead of covering him though, he slid out to ringside and donned his cloak, smoothing it out and making sure it was perfectly positioned before walking up the ramp. Awesome Thunder followed, yelling at him to get back in the ring and finish the match, but in the ring the referee’s count had reached 20, and Shibanuma won via countout. Thunder was incandescent as he stormed off.

Transition – The Future Is Now

Backstage, Future Eguchi is standing on an upturned box, addressing a large group of wrestlers. He’s preaching about the Hayashi Special Forces and Hayashi’s Army, and telling the assembled wrestlers (we can only see Japanese Phoenix and Flash, Jin Miyamoto, Young Boy Sayuke and The Tic) that they must be stopped at all costs, and he and Tic cannot do it alone. He asks who is willing to help him in this cause, but there’s a generally unenthused murmuring from the assembled group, and nobody seems interested. Least of all the fans.

Magnum KOBE and Mokuami Maita vs. Firefox Inao and Kazuma Narato

Another ‘preview of the big night’ type match, pitting Kobe and Maita against the other two contenders for Kobe’s titles. There was an interesting dynamic here as, although Maita and Kobe aren’t exactly friends, they don’t hate each other either and it was fun to see them apprehensively tagging each other in, aware that either of them would gain an advantage by hanging their partner out to dry. They had a match to win though, so that came first, and win it they did. Narato aimed a Narato kick at Kobe, who dodged it and shoved the off-balance Shining Silver Force man out of the ring. Behind him, Inao was climbing the turnbuckle, but due to a warning shout from Maita, Kobe was able to turn in time to counter the cross-body splash into a fallout slam of sorts, and lock in the Magnum Deathlock for the submission victory.

The Avalanche Effect vs. Above & Below

A chance for Hell Monkey to strut his under-used stuff in the main event here, since he hasn’t got a match for Power and Glory. This was a non-title match, which made the outcome even more inevitable than usual, but still a good solid main event, with the tag team champions getting in some considerable offence (though mostly on Monkey, who played the babyface in peril role pretty well), before Angel was given the chance to show why he was Universal Champion, and steal the show with some dazzling aerial offence. The commentators noted they were surprised that Dark Eagle hadn’t shown his face, despite the threat from Angel that he’d cancel their match if he did, but agreed that he probably had enough on his plate right now with half his stable going rogue and everything. Angel ended it after fifteen minutes with an Angels Fury on Koyama.
