ECW on Sy Fy 2/23/10

ECW General Manager Tiffany comes out to announce that tonight, two ECW Alumni in Jack Swagger and Matt Hardy will compete for a chance to qualify in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Also, William Regal has requested and will receive his ECW Championship match with Shelton Benjamin next week on this program but Regal will be in action against the Hurricane and Benjamin will take on Vladimir Koslov tonight.

The Hurricane vs. William Regal

The Hurricane takes down the former ECW Champion early but Regal goes to work, beating on the Hurricane. Regal stretches the Hurricane but the Hurricane fights back. Several nearfalls on Regal but the Shining Wizard is avoided and Regal hits a half nelson suplex, before hitting the Knee Trembler for the pin.

Winner: William Regal(6:42, B)

William Regal gets on the microphone, cutting a promo, talking about how he refuses to acknowledge that he lost the ECW Championship because he lost it such a barbaric structure like the Elimination Chamber. Regal says that Shelton better keep that belt warm for him because Regal is going to walk out next week with the championship. Regal also says that if John Morrison decides to challenge for the ECW Championship, he better get ready for a thrashing of the lifetime.

********************Commercial Break******************

Yoshi Tatsu and Goldust vs. Zack Ryder and Tyler Reks(w/Rosa Mendes)

Tatsu and Goldust run wild but Yoshi gets cut off, as the announcers talk about how Zack Ryder is the first man who qualified for Money in the Bank. Yoshi is double teamed but hot tag to Goldust, who runs wild, beating down both of his opponents. Reks is taken down with a Powerslam but he is not the leg man. Ryder goes low and hits the Ruff Ryder on Goldust for the pin.

Winners: Zack Ryder and Tyler Reks(7:01, D+)

Ryder and Reks leave the ring, as the announcers hype up Ryder being part of the Money in the Bank and speculate on his chances of victory.

******************Commercial Break***********************

Vladimir Koslov vs. ECW Champion Shelton Benjamin(Non Title Match)

Benjamin uses his speed and technical ability to dazzle Koslov but Koslov hammers away at Shelton, using his power, to really put the ECW Champion down. The announcers speculate that Koslov is in this to hurt Shelton, so he is less than one hundred percent against William Regal next week. Koslov goes for a battering ram in the corner but Benjamin ducks and Dragon Whip kick! Koslov is back up and Shelton is quickly to the outside, before he hits a springboard cross body block for the pin.

Winner: Shelton Benjamin(8:10, B-)

Ezekiel Jackson is out and Benjamin fights him off but William Regal sneaks into the ring. Thankfully for Shelton he manages to bail and fight another day, before he is subject to another Ruthless Roundtable assault. Hype for Shelton Benjamin making his first ECW Championship defense against William Regal next week. Can Shelton keep the belt or will Regal become a two time championship holder? Only time will tell.

Coming up next, RAW takes on Smackdown here on ECW for a shot to compete in the Money in the Bank Match. Its Jack Swagger taking on Matt Hardy, our main event on ECW.

***********************Commercial Break*********************

Money in the Bank Qualifier

Matt Hardy vs. Jack Swagger

Hardy runs wild early in this match but Swagger hangs up Hardy and begins working over him, gaining several nearfalls. Swagger continues the assault on Hardy, hammering away at him with several impressive moves but the pump splash out of the corner misses. Hardy pounds away at Swagger and hits the Side Effect for a two count. Legdrop off of the top rope misses and Swagger rolls up Hardy for a two count. Kneelift and gutwrench power bomb is countered into a sunset flip for a two count. Swagger hammers away at Hardy but Hardy catches him with a gutshot before pulling the Twist of Fate out of nowhere to score the pin.

Winner: Matt Hardy(10:20, C+)

Matt Hardy is your winner and will go onto Wrestlemania 26, as one of eight men to compete in Money in the Bank. A veteran of ladder matches, Hardy has to be one of the favorites.

The fans are cheering, as Khali wipes out Mike Knox, allowing Matt Hardy to hit the Twist of Fate on Haas for the pin to get the Unified Tag Team Titles.

The Great Khali and Matt Hardy will be facing off against the Hart Dynasty for the Unified Tag Team Titles next week on Smackdown.

The Undisputed Women’s Champion Michelle McCool comes out with Layla. Michelle mocks the RAW divas, talking about her utter superiority to them, just like she is superior to every woman in Smackdown and every woman out there in the crowd. Michelle talks about how two little girls, Gail Kim and Melina are crying that Michelle has stolen RAW’s precious championship. Michelle claims that she has both belts, therefore she is the Undisputed Champion and if either of the inferior RAW divas want a shot, they’re going to have to earn it. Michelle suggests a tag team match with Layla against Gail and Melina this Monday. Layla doesn’t seem too pleased with this, given the fact that Gail Kim and Melina are two of the most accomplished female athletes in WWE. Michelle also taunts Beth Phoenix, talking about the restraining order and calls her a coward for not doing anything to challenge it, but also says that if she does, Michelle will get her thrown in jail. Michelle says tonight she has a Undisputed Women’s Title match against Maria.

WWE Undisputed Women’s Title Match:

Maria vs. Michelle McCool©

Not exactly a technical classic but Maria got a couple of nearfalls, before Michelle went to work on her, with a little help from Layla. Layla interfered until Beth Phoenix stormed from the back and destroyed Layla. Michelle screams for security, as Beth Phoenix enters the ring, to go after Michelle McCool. Michelle cowers in the corner but security enters the ring to tackle and restrain Beth Phoenix, as the referee calls for the bell.

Winner By Disqualification: Michelle McCool(4:04, E)

Beth Phoenix is handcuffed and now Michelle taunts her, before slapping Beth Phoenix right across the face. The Glamazon is dragged off by security, as Michelle mockingly cries in the ring. She kicks Maria in the face for good measure. One day, that restraining order will not be able to save Michelle from the wrath of the Glamazon.

*******************Commercial Break*********************

The announcers talk about how the Ultimate Warrior will be going into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2010 but the second inductee will be announced right now. A video package is shown, detailing the career of “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase, his rise as one of the biggest stars in WWE history. Everyone has a price for the Million Dollar Man and DiBiase will be the second member of the Class of 2010 in the WWE Hall of Fame.

Batista makes his way down to the ring, cutting a promo about John Cena. Batista talks about his beating of Cena and he says he hopes that the nurse in Cena’s hospital room has turned on the television to Smackdown, so Cena can hear this message. Batista says that if Cena accepts the challenge at Wrestlemania, he better develop a taste for hospital food because he is going be there permanently if they step into the ring. Batista also adds that he hasn’t forgotten about the World Heavyweight Title and he will get the belt back. Batista leaves the ring to boos.

Coming up next, Kane and Dolph Ziggler go one on one for the WWE Intercontinental Title. More action as we return on Smackdown.

******************Commercial Break***********************

WWE Intercontinental Title Match:

Kane vs. Dolph Ziggler©

Kane assaults Ziggler right at the bell, knocking him around from pillar to post, before Ziggler gains the advantage, working over Kane. Not for long, as Kane boots Ziggler down out of a springboard and continues the assault on Ziggler. Kane hits a side slam and signals for the Choke Slam but Ziggler blocks the move and elbows Kane. Ziggler rushes Kane but gets taken down with a tilt a whirl side slam! Kane goes for the Choke Slam again but Ziggler bails to the arena floor! Kane goes after Ziggler but Ziggler has the WWE Intercontinental Title Belt which he waffles Kane with for the blatant disqualification.

Winner By Disqualification: Kane(9:09, C+)

Ziggler rolls Kane into the ring and goes to depart but Kane is up and none too happy. Kane reaches over the top rope and pulls Ziggler into the ring, before hitting a huge Choke Slam! Ziggler has been spiked into the canvas and Kane stands over the broken body of Dolph Ziggler.

Coming up next, R-Truth takes on CM Punk in a Money in the Bank Qualifying Match. More action on Smackdown.

******************Commercial Break**************************

CM Punk is out to the ring, cutting a promo about how he’s going to take down DX by himself, which no one has been able to do. This Monday it starts with Shawn Michaels and at Wrestlemania 26, it continues with Triple H. However, Punk says that he’ll have a busy night at Mania, as he will win tonight against R-Truth and go into winning his third Money in the Bank briefcase. Punk says that no one could match his abilities in the ring and tonight, he’s going to show R-Truth why straight edge means Punk is better than anyone else.

CM Punk vs. R-Truth

Usual high octane offense from R-Truth, beating Punk in the corner. Punk is staggered for this match and R-Truth gets a nearfall but Punk fights Truth off, before he begins to drill Truth with a series of elbow strikes right to the head. Punk hammers away at Truth and snap mares him down, before pulling him up. Double underhook into a backbreaker gets a two count. Punk continues his assault on R-Truth, drawing even more boos as the offense continues! Sleeperhold applied by Punk but R-Truth begins to fight out and belly to back suplex! R-Truth is on his feet and blisters the chest of Punk with a series of chops! Punk is thrown into the ropes and kneelift to the midsection, sets up an Axe Kick! R-Truth gives the signal but Punk ranks R-Truth in the eyes. Roundhouse kick is mistimed and the referee gets taken out! The fans are booing as Punk attacks R-Truth with a series of chops before wiping him out with a lariat, but Shawn Michaels rushes down to the ring from the crowd and enters the ring, before hitting the Superkick on CM Punk! Punk goes down and R-Truth makes the cover to score the academic win.

Winner: R-Truth(10:22, B-)

CM Punk is left out in the cold, as Shawn Michaels taunts him from the aisle. It will be Shawn Michaels going one on one with CM Punk this Monday and most likely, CM Punk going onto Wrestlemania 26 to take on Triple H.

Drew McIntrye and the World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho are backstage. Jericho says that he respects McIntyre and says that he should have gotten the title shot at Mania, not some snot nosed upstart like John Morrison. Jericho says that one day he will retire and McIntyre could be the future of this company. McIntyre says that he might not wait for Jericho to retire but that’s not important, what’s important is that they take care of the Undertaker and John Morrison. Jericho nods, saying that he’s going to give Morrison a warning about why it would be in his best interests not to compete for the championship against Jericho at Wrestlemania 26.

************************Commercial Break***********************

The Undertaker and John Morrison vs. Drew McIntyre and Chris Jericho

Morrison and the Undertaker battered their opponents for this match but when the Undertaker’s leg was taken out, that allowed McIntyre and Jericho to viciously double team the Dead Man behind the back of the referee! The fans are cheering, as the Undertaker attempts to fight out but is just too overwhelmed until he manages to choke slam McIntyre. Race to the corner, tag to Jericho and tag to Morrison. Morrison is on fire, drilling both of his opponents. Slick Pele Kick right to Jericho brings him down to the canvas. McIntyre enters the ring and lays out Morrison but the Undertaker is back in, taking McIntyre to the arena floor! McIntyre is down on the floor and the Undertaker goes after him, brawling. Morrison tries a springboard off of the second rope but Jericho catches him into the Codebreaker to score the pin!

Winners: Drew McIntyre and Chris Jericho(12:22, B-)

Jericho ****ily taunts Morrison afterwards, saying that tonight, it was proven without a shadow of a doubt that Jericho is superior to Morrison and says that Morrison should just concede defeat and use his title match against someone else, because he would just be simply throwing away an opportunity at Wrestlemania 26 if he fought Jericho for the title. We fade to black with the fans booing Jericho.

Michaels is slurring his words and saying that he has to face Punk tonight, he has to. The paramedics tell Michaels that he should not really want across the hallway in his condition.

He enters the ring and we get our weekly dose of Batista, who talks about how John Cena must be cowering in his hospital room, thinking that Batista will track him down to finish the job he started at the Elimination Chamber. No, Batista is going to let Cena’s ravaged body heal, and he’ll finish the job at the grandest stage of them all Wrestlemania 26. He won’t send Cena to the hospital this time, no he’ll send him straight to the morgue. This gets massive boos and Batista says he’s sick of the WWE Universe being one large John Cena circled jerk. Batista says that one on one, Batista is the only person that Cena has never been able to beat and at Wrestlemania, Batista will prove it once and for all. He now demands they send someone out from the back and MVP answers the call.

MVP vs. Batista

MVP is on fire, managing to take Batista off balance but Batista quickly gains the advantage and beats on MVP, drawing huge boos from the fans. A pair of clotheslines and Batista beats on MVP with stomps, before dropping a knee. Batista hoists up MVP and a massive side slam. Batista continues the brutality, while mocking John Cena and he even applies an STF! Batista mockingly yells “you can’t see me” as he cranks the hold on MVP, who manages to get to the ropes. Batista beats on MVP but MVP manages to fight back. Leaping dropkick by MVP and he beats on Batista. Leaping forearm smash into the corner and facebuster across the knee. Ballin’ Elbow gets a huge pop from the fans. MVP now beats on Batista and to the second rope. Caught and driven down with a huge spine buster! Batista looks at MVP and hoists him up, before hoisting him up onto his shoulders. Batista is going to give MVP his own version of the Attitude Adjustment but MVP counters with a sunset flip for a nearfall! MVP nearly pulled one out and Batista nearly caves MVP’s skull in with a boot to the head. Lariat, sets up a spinebuster and now Batista drills MVP with the Batista Bomb to score the pin!

Winner: Batista(8:12, B-)

Batista continues to beat down MVP after the match and throws him to the arena floor! Cole and Lawler talk about how Batista has a mean streak a mile long and how that could be the end of John Cena. Batista put Rey Mysterio on the shelf back at Survivor Series and he is still on the shelf. He’s a dangerous man and John Cena, at Wrestlemania 26, might be fighting his toughest test yet. Cena has defied the odds before but he’s never beaten Batista.

Gail Kim and Melina vs. the WWE Undisputed Women’s Champion Michelle McCool and Layla

Both Gail Kim and Melina had perfect reason to get their hands on Michelle McCool for various reasons. Michelle was knocked around and battered, but Gail Kim was cut off and played babyface in peril for a few minutes, until the hot tag is made to Melina. Once again, Michelle bails, wanting no part of Melina, leaving Layla to take the brunt of the beating, leading the Primal Scream to be executed for the pin!

Winners: Melina and Gail Kim(6:22, C+)

Melina gets the pin but unfortunately, for the second week in a row, not really against the girl that she wanted to. Michelle McCool has escaped the wrath of Melina for one more week but exactly how long can the Undisputed Women’s Champion weather the storm.

Wait a minute, we just have late breaking news that we have John Cena via satellite from an undisclosed hospital. We are going to go to that right now.

We see John Cena laying in his hospital bed, looking battered but most certainly a lot better than the last time we saw him. Cena talks about how he was sitting back and watching WWE, to hear Batista run his mouth. Cena talks about how Batista said that Cena never beat him and that’s true, but in four weeks at Wrestlemania 26, Cena will get the chance to avenge that. Cena says his doctors are going to clear him to wrestle the day before the show but he says that he’s looking to be released to the hospital in time for the three hour RAW next week. Cena says that while the doctors have banned him from competing officially in the ring, they said nothing about fighting and next Monday, Batista better be ready to go to war, because Cena is giving him a taste of Wrestlemania 26 early. Cena says that he’ll beat Batista at Mania and then regardless of what happens, he’s going to become the WWE Champion once again. The announcers talk excitedly about the fact that John Cena will be on RAW next week, during that blockbuster three hour show as the road to Wrestlemania kicks to high gear.

Money in the Bank Qualifier:

Kane vs. Ted DiBiase vs. the WWE Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler

Kane beats down both men, until Ziggler and DiBiase form an alliance to double team the Big Red Machine. That does not last all that long, before Ziggler cheapshots DiBiase and attempts to steal a pin. Kane gets back up and beats on Ziggler, before hitting him with a vicious Choke Slam! Ziggler is down on the canvas and DiBiase manages to attack Kane from behind, before he hits the Dream Street on Kane for the pin!

Winner: Ted DiBiase(5:55, B-)

DiBiase leaves, the fifth man in Money in the Bank, along with Zack Ryder, Matt Hardy, Evan Bourne, and R-Truth. DiBiase walks to the back, where he is greeted by Cody Rhodes and the WWE Champion Randy Orton. Orton tells DiBiase that he has secured the first step towards Legacy’s sweeping dominance in WWE. He says DiBiase is to win Money in the Bank and eventually cash in to win the World Heavyweight Title on Smackdown. Orton also says that in the future, he’ll send Cody over to ECW and get their belt, just to prove a point but right now, the World Heavyweight Title belt is in the future of Ted DiBiase. Orton says that DiBiase should be reaching for the stars, and with Orton’s stranglehold on the WWE Championship secure, the World Heavyweight Belt is the best that DiBiase could hope for. In walks Josh Mathews, who begins asking Orton about the Rock but Orton angrily shoves Mathews into the wall and grabs him by the throat, yelling that he’s sick and tired about hearing about that man. In fact, Orton says that coming up next, he’s going to head out to the ring and solve this problem once and for all.

*********************Commercial Break*********************

Randy Orton walks down to the ring, drawing loud boos from the fans, as he enters the ring, sliding his WWE Championship into the ring. Orton grabs the microphone and begins ranting and raving about the Rock. Ever since January 25th, when he kicked the Rock in the head, all he heard about was the Rock and the possibility of the Rock having one more match. Not to mention what would happen if the Rock fought Randy Orton. Orton says that he’s sick and tired of having the Rock shoved down his throat. Orton says that he’s going to solve this issue once and for all. He’s inviting The Rock to this show next week. Orton says that he has an offer for the Rock that he knows his ego won’t turn down. Orton yells that he’s the WWE Champion, he should be the center of the talk in the wrestling world, not the Rock. Orton looks like he’s foaming at the mouth, like a rabid dog, as he yells that he’s going to pay out of his own pocket to get the Rock to show up for RAW next week and the Rock will be given an offer that he can’t refuse. Orton leaves, as the announcers hype up the possibility of the Rock showing up and Randy Orton paying for him to get here out of his own pocket.

Shawn Michaels is arguing with the paramedic when CM Punk comes in, mocking Shawn Michaels, asking him if he’s taken any painkillers yet. “Because, that’s all you ever did back in the 90s, was shove that garbage down your throat. I’m not convinced that you’ve changed. You may say you have faith, but the only faith that matters is straight edge and that means I’m better than you.” Punk mourns that he was looking forward to showing Triple H a preview of what will happen to him at Wrestlemania 26 but he guess that since HBK’s too hurt, it will have to wait. “Of course, I don’t know how hurt you really are. This wouldn’t be the first time you’ve hidden behind a fake injury to get out of matches against people that were better you and an excuse to take more prescription painkillers.” Punk says that the fact millions of fans worship a pill popping degenerate like Michaels disgusts him and he says that Michaels doesn’t even have the courage to fight Punk, instead he hides behind false injuries. Punk leaves as Michaels gets up but the medic says that Michaels should not compete, no matter what Punk states and Michaels appears to have agreed, before he superkicks the paramedic! The paramedic looks like he’s going to be the one needing medical attention, as Shawn Michaels stumbles out of the locker room, nearly collapsing but managing to somehow push himself down the hallway.

Still to come, John Morrison make his choice for who he challenges in the main event at Wrestlemania but coming up next, CM Punk meets Shawn Michaels for the very first time.

********************Commercial Break***************

Shawn Michaels vs. CM Punk

Michaels is a house of fire, despite his obvious concussion after the Trouble in Paradise! A series of chops in the corner rattle Punk and Michaels hits a series of punches right in the corner. Michaels throws Punk into the ropes but he drops to one knee, looking glassy eyed and Punk promptly dropkicks him right in the face. The announcers harp on the dangers of competing with a concussion and how Michaels may be rolling the dice with his career and his life by fighting someone as dangerous as Punk. Punk hammers away at Michaels and throws him into the corner. Running kick to the head in the corner and bulldog gets Michaels down for a two count! The fans are booing Punk as he continues to assault the head of Michaels with forearms and elbow smashes, before hitting a reverse neckbreaker for a two count. A DDT gets a two count and Punk has Michaels set up. Vicious brain buster brings him down and Punk rolls over Michaels before climbing to the top rope. Flying kneedrop right down across the back of the head. Michaels is rolled over and Punk gets a two count. Punk picks up Michaels but Michaels manages to fight back from underneath. Inverted atomic drop on Punk and flying forearm smash! Michaels is down and HBK kips up, before he drops to his knees, dazed. Punk leaps on Michaels, delivering a series of elbow smashes right to the back of the head, before Michaels is hoisted up and given the GTS which scores the pin.

Winner: CM Punk(8:32. B)

You have got to give Shawn Michaels all the credit in the world, he stuck it out despite being severely injured but in the end, CM Punk scores the pin! Punk grabs the microphone and says that one beaten, one to go. Punk says that Triple H is hopefully watching this from his home and saw what happened to Shawn Michaels. Punk says that it’s only a fraction of what he’s going to do to Triple H, because Triple H has committed far greater crimes, corrupting the virtue of a heiress of a multi billion dollar company with his Degenerate ways. Punk says that he’s going to finish off the Game once and for all and if he’s not down with that, Punk has seven words for him. “Straight Edge Means I’m Better Than You.” Punk leaves the ring, his preaching done, with boos from the crowd as Shawn Michaels is being helped to the back. He should have never competed tonight and he was really risking permanent injury competing against Punk.

Coming up next, the choice of John Morrison.

*****************Commercial Break*****************

John Morrison enters the ring, to much fanfare. Morrison gets on the microphone, putting over how challenging for any of the major championships would be something that would be great, especially in the main event at Wrestlemania 26. He pondered exactly what championship he would challenge for the past month and it was not an easy decision. He says the other two champions should not take this personally but there is only one choice for Morrison and that’s….

“BREAK THE WALLS DOWN!”

The fans are booing, as the World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho comes out, with a smug expression on his face. Morrison is in the ring, as Jericho enters the ring, saying that he would like to congratulate Morrison for exercising some intelligence and not deciding to make a fool of himself by challenging Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship. Jericho said that the main event at Wrestlemania 26 would be a foregone conclusion, as Morrison might be good but Jericho is the best at what he does. Jericho wishes Morrison the best of luck in his conquest for the ECW Championship or maybe he’s going for Randy Orton and the WWE Championship. Either way, Morrison does have an opportunity to walk out in the main event at Wrestlemania 26, where if he fought Chris Jericho, he would be pinned to the mat, just like he did on Smackdown.

Morrison decides to speak, putting over Chris Jericho as perhaps the single greatest competitor in WWE today and that is why John Morrison had decided to challenge for the World Heavyweight Title against Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania 26! The fans pop big for that one! Jericho says that Morrison is making the biggest mistake in his life. Many people only have once chance to main event Wrestlemania, in fact, most people don’t even get that and now Morrison is going to throw it away. Jericho says that he strongly suggests that Morrison does not waste it. “Because, as good as you are Morrison, you don’t measure up with me.”

Morrison says that it’s time for him to either put up or shut up and he says that Chris Jericho has an impressive resume but there is going to be one more item on that list after Wrestlemania 26. “The man who John Morrison beat to win his first World Heavyweight Title!” The fans cheer and Jericho looks sour, before he attempts to cheapshot Morrison but Morrison is ready and he rocks Jericho with a Pele Kick! The fans are going insane, as Jericho rolls to the floor. John Morrison has chosen to challenge Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship in the main event at Wrestlemania 26. Morrison was quicker on the draw than Jericho, he has proven that he can stand toe to toe with the champion. But what will case be at Wrestlemania 26? We’re out of time, see you next week for three hours of RAW.
