PRE SHOW

In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Mike Quackenbush defeated Gary Steele in 7:18 by pinfall with a Quackendriver. D

Impact

Saturday, week 4, December 2002

John J. Lee Amphitheater, New Haven, CT.

Live on Syndication

Harley Race and Jeff Jarrett are approaching a door backstage, which has Ken Shamrock's name on it. They enter without knocking which maddens Shamrock who is ready to punch Jarrett in the nose, only for Race to stop him, saying he will strip him of his title if he is violent. Jarrett tells Shamrock that he will be gunning for his World Championship, and Race tells him he will make it happen at some point in the future. C-

Paul London v Sheik Abdul Bashir

A solid enough contest that suffered due to a lack of interest in it from the fans. Both men had the opportunities to win and it was a match that could have gone either way, but it was London who took the duke in 6:03 by pinfall with a London Calling. D

In a locker room, we see Abyss warming up by roaring loudly, headbutting lockers and punching walls. Each to their own. C-

Ernest Miller is walking backstage when he is set on by the man beast Vader. Vader absolutely pummels Miller who has no reply to the big man, and is left laying and in need of help. D-

Abyss v Joe E. Legend

Very short... very poor. Abyss dominates Legend in a match that had viewers reaching for their remote to watch whatever rubbish gardening show is on another channel. It was thankfully over in 2:38 by pinfall with The Black Hole. E+

A music video is shown to promote Steve Corino. D

CM Punk comes to the ring, where he holds a pompous celebration to hail "the greatest X Division Champion ever", which isn't much of a claim considering he is only the second. He laps up his own self praise and starts to draw some boos, which turn to cheers when Ultimo Dragon rushes to the ring to break up proceedings and attack the champion. D

Pride of Britain v Triple X (Skipper & Kazarian, with Francine)

A solid enough match and one that held more interest than the first two put together. Williams and Wolfe are showing the first signs of finding their feet as a team, but Triple X had too much class for them and overcame the Brits in 9:17 when Frankie Kazarian defeated Desmond Wolfe by pinfall with a Wave Of The Future. D+

A segment is shown where Buff Bagwell approaches Roger backstage. He offers him a bunch of flowers and they kiss. Buff truly is a puff now, he's in love and not with himself! D+

Harley Race meets Vader backstage. He praises Vader for the way he mauled Ernest Miller earlier in the night, and promises Vader that he will look after his interests now he is the authority figurehead in TNA. Vader is pleased. C-

<a href="http://media.photobucket.com/image/air paris wrestler/FCDiary/AirParis.jpg?o=1" target="_blank"><img src="http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/FCDiary/AirParis.jpg" border="0"></a>

Air Paris v Samoa Joe

Much better, this is far more like the action we've come to expect from TNA. Both men fought and fought with all their might utilising their contrasting styles of offence. Paris gave Joe a lot of trouble, but Joe was able to earn a workmanlike victory in 13:45 by pinfall with an Island Driver. C-

Latin American Exchange come to the ring and declare they are delighted to be the first worthy Tag Team Champions in TNA, which does not rest well with the crowd. C-

AJ Styles v Shane Douglas

AJ proves again he can have a very good match with anybody, while Shane Douglas proves he can compete in TNA and is more than capable of having a darn good match, just like against Ultimo Dragon at Christmas Feast. Now, if he can turn some of these performances into victories, he will become a serious threat to Ken Shamrock. As it was, AJ increased his ever rising stock even further by defeating the former ECW Champion in 20:33 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. This was as good as Styles v Jarrett at Christmas Feast. B-

After the match, Rick Steiner comes out and treats AJ with utter disdain, telling him that his recent performances are impressing nobody worthwhile, only the moronic fans who like guys who fly and zip around from rope to rope. Steiner leaves as the crowd chant AJ's name. C+

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Sheik Abdul Bashir defeated Desmond Wolfe in 7:28 by pinfall with a Magic Carpet Ride. D-

Impact

Saturday, week 1, January 2003

J.A. Albertson Center, Caldwell, ID.

Live on Syndication

Harley Race comes to the ring to start of Impact. He calls Ken Shamrock, Jeff Jarrett, Rick Steiner and AJ Styles to the ring and one by one, they come to the ring. Race tells them all that he wants no violence right now, and any violence will be severely dealt with, there will be plenty of opportunity for violence at Genesis. Harley continues by saying he has noticed issues have been brewing between those assembled before him, so he's acted before they do... at Genesis we shall see Jeff Jarrett and Rick Steiner team up to take on Ken Shamrock and AJ Styles, who will also see action tonight when they face Steve Corino and Shane Douglas. The crowd cheer Race for the first time in TNA and the four look like they are going to get it on now... Race concludes by saying one more thing... it will be inside a steel cage. Shamrock looks like he is about to attack Jarrett, but Race tells him that if he does, he will strip him of the NWA TNA World Championship. Shamrock storms to the back as Steiner and Jarrett stare down AJ. C

Ernest Miller v Jimmy Rave

Standard fare television opening match, featuring some solid action to whet the appetite and an indifferent crowd. Rave had his moments but Miller proved to be too strong and picks up a victory that he hopes will kickstart a run, in 7:49 by pinfall with a Thrust Kick. D

Latin American Exchange venture out to the ring where the proclaim themselves to be the greatest Tag Team Champions TNA will ever see. They add that they will prove this at Genesis when they will again defeat America's Most Wanted. Mike Tenay comments that they have activated their rematch clause. D

Shane Douglas and Steve Corino are together backstage and cut a promo hyping their match later tonight and how they will tear apart the champion and the pretender. C-

America's Most Wanted (with Dawn Marie) v Ring Wizards

Disappointing, especially when you consider the quality of AMW's match with LAX at Christmas Feast. They were a step above their opponents here though, showing that the gulf between the top and the middle in TNA's tag ranks is considerable. AMW pick up the win in 7:15 when 'Cowboy' James Storm defeated Ken Anderson by pinfall with a Death Sentence. D-

CM Punk comes down to the ring carrying his championship belt, a pen and some paper. He climbs into the ring and gets a mic, and informs the crowd that he has been offered a lucrative contract elsewhere and he has it in his hand right now. Rather than tear it up, he signs the contract on the X Division Championship belt, drawing loud boos from the crowd and no doubt the ire of the TNA management. D

Samoa Joe is backstage, and warns Jeff Jarrett not to exact an easy match tonight just because Jarrett has beat him once before, Joe has come to fight. C-

Abyss v Super Crazy (with Midajah)

Another strong win for Abyss, but his matches since Christmas Feast have been a little disappointing. Crazy was much stronger oppositition than Williams last week, but he eventually succumbed to TNA's emerging monster in 9:26 by pinfall with The Black Hole. D-

http://www.thepartyfairy.co.nz/img/floss.jpg

We see clips of Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell and Roger having some fun at a fun fair, which cumulates in them eating from the same stick of candy floss. D+

Mike Tenay and Don West announce that Abyss versus Monty Brown has been signed for Genesis. D-

Jeff Jarrett v Samoa Joe

Some great heat, good action and great chemistry on show here, in a match that saw Joe very much take the fight to Jarrett, with Jarrett facing a bigger onslaught than he has done so in a long time. The match was planned to end in a double count out with the two brawling up the aisle, but in booking the show Jarrett exercised his creative control so he won in 14:46 by pinfall with The Stroke, which is a shame for Joe as his performance didn't warrant it. C

Harley Race is walking backstage, where he sees Joe arguing with Vader. While Joe is clearly angry at how his match had just unfolded, it's not clear why he is arguing with Vader. Race interrupts, and tells them that if they want each other that badly, they can do so... at Genesis. Both men grin an evil grin. C

Ken Shamrock & AJ Styles v Shane Douglas & Steve Corino

A strong main event to finish off a fairly solid show. Shamrock is hugely popular with TNA's fans and Styles is quickly catching up. Corino and Douglas played the heel role admirably and did everything they could do to disrupt the faces from building momentum. The up and coming Styles comes up trumphs however, much to the chagrin of Race, Jarrett and Steiner who are seen watching the match on a monitor backstage. Styles earns the victory in 17:59 when AJ Styles defeated Shane Douglas by pinfall with a Styles Clash. C+

PRE SHOW

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Mike Quackenbush defeated Joe E. Legend in 7:24 by pinfall with a Quackendriver. D+

Explosion

Wednesday, week 2, January 2003

Huntsville Fairgrounds

Live on UrbanXtra pay per view

Ken Shamrock and AJ Styles kick off Explosion, by cutting a promo from the ring together, discussing their upcoming cage match against Jeff Jarrett and Rick Steiner at Genesis. Both mention how they are going to overcome their main rivals and will use the steel cage as their friend in the match. Shamrock in particular is looking forward to giving Jarrett a world of pain. C-

America's Most Wanted (with Dawn Marie) v Spanish Announce Team (with So Cal Val)

A good opening match which showcased the increasing depth in TNA's tag team division. SAT are beginning to gain ground on the top teams... but one of the top teams is AMW who showed that they haven't lost focus since losing the championship at Christmas Feast and are looking dangerous in their rematch at Genesis. They win the match in 7:41 when 'Wildcat' Chris Harris defeated Jose Maximo by pinfall with a Death Sentence. C-

James Storm gets a microphone after the match and says that victory just shows that they will take back their Tag Team Championship from LAX at Genesis. E+

Abyss v Ernest Miller

Solid enough action but not the most exciting match. Abyss is slowly but surely building a reputation in TNA as a dangerous monster... and this was built a little further with an easy enough win over Miller in 6:56 by pinfall with The Black Hole. D

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

CM Punk (champion) v Super Crazy

A good match that surprisingly had little crowd interest. Punk is a solid champion and doesn't look like he's going to lose his title any time soon, as although he was tested by Crazy he looked in control. His defence came in 11:21 by pinfall with a Pepsi Plunge. CM Punk makes defence number 10 of his TNA X Division title. D+

Harley Race is in the ring cutting a promo, where he is about to detail his vision for TNA's future and who he sees as the future of the company, only to be interrupted...

http://wrestling.insidepulse.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Eric_Bischoff-500x375.jpg

...by Eric Bischoff! Bischoff informs Harley Race that Dixie Carter has employed him because of his track record in building WCW into the number one wrestling company in the world, and she wants him to do the same with TNA. He tells Race not to worry though, he values Race's input and indeed shares some of his ideas, but Bischoff has some of his own. Bischoff says that all four involved in the Genesis main event will compete in two tag team matches the night before on Explosion. AJ Styles and Rick Steiner will be on opposing teams, as will Ken Shamrock and Jeff Jarrett. He has also signed a further match for tonight, where he will let loose four of the most exciting wrestlers TNA has, where American Dragon, Samoa Joe, Ultimo Dragon and Air Paris will face off in a fatal four way and that match will happen right now. Race looks wary of Bischoff's sudden and potentially rival authority. C+

Fatal Four Way

Air Paris v American Dragon v Samoa Joe v Ultimo Dragon

A little disappointing, especially as American Dragon put in a poor performance. This match may well go a long way to deciding the next contender for CM Punk's X Division Championship, but with Samoa Joe emerging victorious, will he even want to target the X Division Championship, or will he prefer to go after the big prize of the World Championship? The match ended in 13:18 with Samoa Joe defeating Ultimo Dragon by pinfall with an Island Driver. D+

'Alpha Male' Monty Brown v Jeff Jarrett

A good match with some good heat from the crowd, the wily Jarrett absorbed all the power moves Brown could throw at him before mounting a sustained offence thanks to a couple of shortcuts that Mickey Jay failed to spot. Jarrett looks good for his upcoming battle in the cage as he beats Brown in 9:33 by pinfall with The Stroke. C-

Paul London is backstage ready to cut a promo regarding his match with Robert Roode at Genesis. However, out of nowhere, Abyss arrives and mauls Paul London, completely destroying him and leaving lying on the concrete. D-

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Latin American Exchange (champions) v Backstreet Boyz

LAX's first title defence against a team that may well become big players in the tag team division in the future in TNA, but at the moment are a little short, as this match showed. Hernandez and Homicide were comfortably enough here and their first defence cumulated in 7:50 when Hernandez defeated Trent Acid by pinfall with a Dominator. Latin American Exchange make defence number 1 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. D+

Jeff Jarrett and Rick Steiner respond to Ken Shamrock and AJ Styles' comments at the start of the show, telling them that they are in dreamland if they think they will win at Genesis and that the cage will be their friend. Jarrett and Steiner will use the cage to rip Shamrock and Styles' skin apart. C+

AJ Styles v Shane Douglas

Very disappointing thanks to regular meetings between the two of late and a poor performance from Shane Douglas. This was a shame as despite all this, AJ looked really good. Douglas had been moving in the right direction of late, but this may well set him back significantly. AJ picked up an easy win in 14:08 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. E

Jimmy Rave cuts a promo saying just how good he is, saying how he is a brighting star in TNA. Eric Bischoff appears and tells him to prove it... against AJ Styles this Saturday on Impact. C-

NWA TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Ken Shamrock (champion) v Steve Corino

A good, solid technical match, as was expected. An acceptable quality main event with a good level of crowd interest, as was expected. Another title defence for Ken Shamrock, as was expected, although Corino fought well. Shamrock is looking ultra solid since winning the Championship and he shows no signs of falling back. He keeps his title in 18:52 by submission with an Ankle Lock. Ken Shamrock makes defence number 6 of his NWA TNA World Heavyweight title. C-

Saturday, week 2, January 2003</p><p>

Ken Shamrock is backstage when Samoa Joe approaches him. He offers his services to Ken Shamrock as his tag team partner for Shamrock's match against Jarrett and partner next week. Joe tells Shamrock that he needs somebody he can depend on and that they have teamed together in similar situations in the past and Joe has always been with Shamrock. Shamrock agrees. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://www.doiwrestling.com/lowki/pics/kipose.jpg</span></p><p>

<strong>Harry Smith v Low Ki</strong></p><p>

Low Ki makes his TNA debut and chalks up an impressive win in a match which would have been better had the two clicked. He overcame the young Brit in 6:20 by submission with a Dragon Clutch. <strong>D</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Latin American Exchange cut an interview about their Genesis rematch against America's Most Wanted, calling their match a foregone conclusion. They showed at Christmas Feast they are the superior team and they will show this again at Genesis. <strong>C-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

AJ Styles is backstage when both Eric Bischoff and Harley Race come up to him. AJ is not impressed by being interrupted in preparing for his match against Jimmy Rave later tonight. Race tells Styles that they are unhappy that Ken Shamrock has been able to choose his partner for next week, as that was not how it was supposed to go down, he and Bischoff were going to pick the partners. Bischoff tells AJ that he has Ernest Miller as his partner for next week's match against Rick Steiner and partner. <strong>B+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Dragons v Spanish Announce Team (with So Cal Val)</strong></p><p>

A good quality tag team match between two exciting teams, as pairings are jostling for position behind LAX and AMW in the tag team ranks and are pushing for title shots. The crowd were enthralled by the fast paced action here, and the new team of Dragons emerged on top in 13:28 when Ultimo Dragon defeated Joel Maximo by submission with a Dragon Sleeper. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

CM Punk announces that he has a title defence at Genesis against Ernest Miller. He laughs, proclaiming Miller isn't in the same league, and that it will only be a short time until Punk rises to bigger and greater things when he moves to a bigger and greater company. Even from backstage where Punk is talking, boos can be heard from the arena. <strong>D+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell is in the ring and tells all that he is to face Doug Williams at Genesis. He then goes on to say that a few months ago, he only loved one person in the world and that was himself. That recently changed when he met Roger, the new love of his life. He then dedicates the Genesis match to Roger and proclaims that victory over Williams will be a perfect way for him to show his manly love. <strong>C-</strong></p><p>

(Or should that be man love?) <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>'Cowboy' James Storm v Elix Skipper (with Dawn Marie)</strong></p><p>

A solid match and some good ringside work from Dawn Marie lifted the match which only had average interest from the crowd. It was even most of the way through until near the end when Storm was getting on top. He won in 9:37 when Elix Skipper was disqualified due to Frankie Kazarian running in and attacking 'Cowboy' James Storm. The two beat down on Storm until 'Wildcat' Chris Harris made the save. <strong>D+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Eric Bischoff and Harley Race are now with Rick Steiner. They inform him that his partner next week is CM Punk. Steiner smiles, and comments that he sees him the perfect counter to Ernest Miller. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

The camera then cuts to Ernest Miller backstage as he is being attacked and laid out by the man beast Vader. The show then cuts back Steiner, Race and Bischoff who are laughing. <strong>D-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Abyss & Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell (with Roger) v 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown & Doug Williams</strong></p><p>

A decent enough bout and one in which Abyss and Bagwell looked considerably stronger than Brown and Williams which bodes well for the heels with Genesis just eight days away. The win comes with plenty in hand in 11:28 when Abyss defeated 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown by pinfall with The Black Hole. <strong>D+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Steve Corino speaks from backstage, angry that he is not involved at Genesis and that TNA are overlooking the most talented man on the roster. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Samoa Joe is being attacked by Jeff Jarrett in a backstage corridor. Seeing the assault, Ken Shamrock comes running in and chases Jarrett off, saving Samoa Joe from a serious beating. Joe thanks Shamrock afterwards. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>AJ Styles v Jimmy Rave</strong></p><p>

Some great action and a fantastic crowd, this match only suffered because of a lack of psychology. Rave performed admirably, most probably his best in TNA to date, but Styles has class and even Rave's best couldn't beat TNA's future star. Styles wins in 14:45 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. <strong>C</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Backstage, Ken Shamrock confronts Jeff Jarrett about Jarrett's attack on Samoa Joe. The two have a very heated exchange but don't come to blows before Impact goes off the air. <strong>C+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Impact

Saturday, week 3, January 2003

Bally's Atlantic City, Atlantic City, NJ.

Live on Syndication

AJ Styles and Rick Steiner are backstage getting into a heated argument about which man is better and which team is better both for tonight's match and the big cage match at Genesis. Just as it looks it is about to go into fisticuffs, security arrive on the scene and seperate the two. B

We then cut to an office, decked out with lush office furniture with Eric Bischoff sitting behind the desk. He has Desmond Wolfe standing over him. He tells Wolfe that he has been in TNA since day one and that Bischoff has been less than impressed with his, ahem, accomplishments. He tells Wolfe he needs to improve and improve quickly, starting tonight. Bischoff then brings in Wolfe's opponent... Steve Corino. Wolfe looks a little worried. C-

Joe E. Legend v Low Ki

Low Ki's impressive debut was followed up with a comfortable win against Legend, somebody who has never even found his way in TNA and one has to wonder how long he has left here. Ki looked good in a mediocre and short match and triumphed in 5:03 by pinfall with a Ki Krusher '99. D

Jeff Jarrett is backstage and starts insulting Samoa Joe. Joe responds by charing at Jarrett, only to get jumped by Steve Corino, who had been lying in wait. The ambush leaves Samoa Joe down and out. C-

Latin American Exchange talk in front of a large Puerto Rico flag. They talk about America's Most Wanted with total disdain, saying how the match at Genesis will be easy and that they have no equals. C-

American Dragon v Elix Skipper (with Francine)

A good match with a good level of interest from the crowd. The action was a good mix of aerial and mat based, especially when Dragon had control of the match. He took control at the business end too and took the duke in 8:43 by submission with an Arms Across America. C-

A short video plays highlighting Low Ki's first two matches in TNA. C

An all out brawl has developed backstage involving AJ Styles, Rick Steiner, Ken Shamrock and Jeff Jarrett, Genesis has come a night early. They battle all over the backstage area, battering each other with anything they can get their hands on and demolishing various inaminate objects that lie around. It takes over a dozen security and TNA officials to restore something resembling order. B-

Desmond Wolfe v Steve Corino

Desmond tried his damnedest and took the match to Corino from the opening bell, but Corino was simply too good for Wolfe and won easily in 4:34 by pinfall with an Old School Expulsion. C-

Harley Race is backstage, talking to Vader. Race tells Vader that he feels TNA will be better off without somebody of the likes of Joe, who has a firey temper and doesn't toe the line. He gives Vader his full blessing to hurt Joe at Genesis. C-

Security have been having a busy night, as now they have to keep Backstreet Boyz and Spanish Announce Team apart as they were engaging in a backstage brawl. What was Race just saying about firey tempers? D+

Air Paris v Ultimo Dragon

A quality match in which both men showed their wares and looked dangerous. Dragon had worked himself into a position to win the match, only for the X Division Champion CM Punk to come down to ringside and distract him. This allowed Paris to blindside Dragon and he took full advantage in 9:09 by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. C+

Roger was with Buff Bagwell in the backstage interview area where he talks up Buff's chances of victory of victory over Doug Williams tomorrow night at Genesis and his undying love for Buff. They hold hands throughout the segment. D+

More backstage action, as now it is Triple X who are taking out America's Most Wanted. Maybe this explains LAX's extreme confidence, have they asked for a favour? E

AJ Styles & Ernest Miller v CM Punk & Rick Steiner

Another quality match which shows how far TNA has come in just over six months. AJ put in another sterling performance and he's becoming a stand out star in TNA. His performances have been consistantly high and he is chalking up wins and gathering fan popularity. Tonight was a little different however. AJ was brawling with Steiner at ringside and Rudy Charles was trying to get control of them, when behind his back, Vader ran in and attacked Ernest Miller, hitting him with a power bomb. CM Punk took advantage in 9:53 when CM Punk defeated Ernest Miller by pinfall with a Pepsi Plunge. C+

The cameras stay focused on the ring, where CM Punk and AJ Styles are in a tense post match staredown, neither giving any ground. C+

Mike Tenay, Don West and Potter run down the card for Genesis, focusing particularly on the big cage match. C+

Ken Shamrock & Samoa Joe v Jeff Jarrett & Vader

A hard hitting match that didn't match the quality of some of the earlier contests and that was a little disappointing. It was still good though. Plenty of interest in all wrestlers, plenty of suspense through the match as to who would win and Jeff Jarrett not playing the creative control card to give me free reign on the ending. The bout ended in a victory for the champion in 13:57 when Ken Shamrock defeated Vader by submission with an Ankle Lock. C-

Ken Shamrock celebrates the victory, only to be attacked by Jeff Jarrett, Vader and also Rick Steiner who runs down to the ring. Shamrock doesn't look in a good way, until AJ Styles sprints to the ring brandishing a chair, which chasers off Shamrock's attackers. C+

Show rating: C

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

Sunday, week 3, January 2003

Charles Koch Arena, Wichita, KS.

Live on UrbanXtra pay per view.

We kick off Genesis backstage, where Eric Bischoff and Harley Race are arguing about what match to make Samoa Joe versus Vader. They argue over Last Man Standing match, First Blood match and a Strap match before finally agreeing. The match will be a Street Fight. C+

Paul London v Robert Roode

Some good action in the ring in this opening contest... but the problem was that the two have faced off numerous times of late, some of them pre show affairs, but with this contest not standing out above their previous ones, it took the shine off this and the crowd held little interest. London won the bout in 9:24 by pinfall with a London Calling. E

Air Paris v Jody Fleisch

A much more entertaining match but even so, the crowd are still somewhat dead. Fleisch and Paris showed some great in ring chemistry but in terms of a contest, Paris was clearly the superior here and triumphed in 9:54 by pinfall with a Moonsault Press. D+

CM Punk cuts a promo telling TNA fans not to get too used to his brilliance, as he won't be in this hell hole of a cess pit for much longer. He sees tonight as an easy title defence, especially as Miller has had his issues with Vader of late. Punk remarks it must take it's toll to be repeated hit by a man beast. C-

Ken Anderson v Super Crazy (with Midajah)

The crowd just aren't into this event yet. This is disappointing and becoming a problem for the first pay per view of 2003. Crazy had this match in the bag, only for Anderson to beg him off, plead with the referee for mercy and then behind his back kick Crazy square in the nuts. This led to a surprise victory after a Mic Check in 10:13 by pinfall. D

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

CM Punk (champion) v Ernest Miller

Punk is looking every inch a champion in the ring. He is a very solid competitor who makes few mistakes and has an offence that is usually very difficult to counter. It's just a shame about his conduct out of it... but that is generating more and more hatred towards him each week and getting the fans' attention. Miller proved to be a more than worthy opponent, but with the match wearing on, Vader's music played. This distracted Miller big time, but Vader never appeared. Behind Miller's back, Punk is seen laughing, before blindsiding Miller and defends in 13:14 by pinfall with a Pepsi Plunge. CM Punk makes defence number 11 of his TNA X Division title. D+

Buff Bagwell cuts a promo stating that he is sick to death of all the homophobia that exists in TNA, in it's officials, in it's roster and especially in the fans. He is going to get his own back for all this homophobia, by demolishing Doug Williams tonight. Has Buff been on the funny stuff? C-

Abyss v 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown

Abyss was off his game tonight but still had enough to beat Monty Brown in this match of the power men. Following this contest, it appears that if Monty is to make good use of his Feast or Fired briefcase, he's going to be opportunistic about it. Abyss was the victor in 9:57 by pinfall with The Black Hole. Not a particularly good match. D-

Backstreet Boyz v Spanish Announce Team (with So Cal Val)

A much better contest, in fact the best of the night so far, between two experienced tag teams. Backstreet Boyz haven't yet quite found their feet in TNA despite knocking on the door, while SAT are beginning to establish themselves in the tag team ranks. The Maximos took another step up with this in 11:48 when Joel Maximo defeated Trent Acid by pinfall with a Maximo Explosion. C-

Vader speaks from backstage where he thanks Race and Bischoff for an ideal opportunity to put Joe out of TNA. It appears that the fans are beginning to lose interest in Vader, which is a shame for everything that the veteran has accomplished. E+

Buff 'The Puff' Bagwell v Doug Williams

A good, solid contest. Doug stepped up here and performed well and showed he has a promising future despite defeat to an established star. Buff was playing on his perceived TNA's homophobia towards Roger and he all contest, even going as far as making out with Roger at ringside mid match. Williams was ultimately overcome in 8:58 by pinfall with a Buff Blockbuster. C-

Dragons v Triple X (Skipper & Kazarian, with Francine)

One of TNA's best tag team matches to date was full of pace, energy and a decent dose of technical wrestling and had fans on the edge of their seat. The match's outcome was uncertain throughout until the very end in 14:26 when Ultimo Dragon defeated Frankie Kazarian by submission with a Dragon Sleeper. C

Jeff Jarrett and Rick Steiner are backstage where they taunt their opponents later tonight, Ken Shamrock and AJ Styles. C

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Latin American Exchange v America's Most Wanted (with Dawn Marie)

This lacked the excited of the previous bout and as such suffered a little for it. Again it was well matched between two even teams, but unlike TNA's early days when AMW had the better of LAX, now LAX are getting the better of AMW thanks mainly to Homicide's repeated underhand tactics. This helped them win in 14:45 when Homicide defeated 'Cowboy' James Storm by pinfall by using both a handful of tights and the ropes for leverage. Latin American Exchange make defence number 2 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. D+

Ken Shamrock and AJ Styles are backstage, preparing for the match which is only a few minutes away. They don't say much, other than the time for talking is over and that they will let their actions talk for them inside the cage. C-

Street Fight

Samoa Joe v Vader

Brutal, hard hitting and bloody. This wasn't a match for the children as both men hit each other as hard as possible with everything possible. Vader may have had the brief to take Joe out, but Joe proved too good for the veteran man beast which will presumably leave Bischoff and especially Race none too happy. A bloody Joe beat a tired and bloody Vader in 15:48 by pinfall with an Island Driver. C-

Joe and Vader are both reported to tell TNA officials that a hardcore based match doesn't suit their skills.

Cage Match

Ken Shamrock & AJ Styles v Jeff Jarrett & Rick Steiner

Another brutal, bloody match with the cage being utilised on numerous occasions as a weapon. The action was great and the crowd interest was very high and this resulted in a pleasing main event which ends a slightly disappointing show very well. AJ's stock rose to new heights when he garnered the winning pinfall in 16:54 when he defeated Rick Steiner with a Styles Clash. C+

Having just picked up the victory, Styles and Shamrock celebrate in the ring. Maybe Monty Brown should have taken an opportunity here..? C

Show rating: C

Some of the angles did not meet the standard of the matches. The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA's popularity.

Attendance: 7295

Buy rate: 0.17 (new TNA record)
