PRE SHOW

Al Snow & Maven (with Jimmy Hart) v Happy Bummers

A good start to Genesis with an entertaining tag team match. Happy Bummers’ homosexual in ring antics got into the head of Maven, but Al Snow’s madcap ways got into the head of Monty Brown and Chris Kanyon. These mind games matter for nought in the end as it was Maven’s athletic ability that decided the match in the end in 7:42 when Maven defeated Chris Kanyon by pinfall with a Crossbody Block. C

Jamie Noble v Shoichi Funaki

Noble has made an impressive start to his TNA career and this continued as he looked very strong in this matchup against Funaki. Noble rarely made a mistake and fairly comfortably got the better of his opponent in 10:01 by submission with a Guillotine Choke. C+

Mike Tenay and Potter are seen at the announce table and speak to the TNA Director of Authority Dusty Rhodes, who is sitting behind his desk in his office. Tenay asks Rhodes about the condition of the number one contender, Buff ‘The Puff’ Bagwell. Rhodes says it is not good. Bagwell has not been medically cleared to wrestle and he will find the perpetrator of Buff’s attacks and punish them appropriately. More pressingly, Dusty says he needs to find a new challenger for Brother Ray’s TNA Heavyweight Championship tonight. C-

NWA TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

AK-47 (champions) v Latin American Exchange

A keenly fought championship match as the champions faced a challenging team who have a TNA Nations Cup Final rubber match coming up on Impact in a couple of days. They didn’t look distracted from their championship challenge though as they proved to be a stern test for the champions but came up just short as the champs retained in 10:51 when Austin Aries defeated Hernandez by pinfall with a 450° splash. AK-47 make defence number 4 of their NWA TNA World Tag Team titles. C

Cameras are backstage and witness the arrival of the X Division champion, Caprice Coleman to the arena. The crowd cheer for the popular and talented champion. B-

Los Guerreros v New Announce Team

A highly entertaining and exciting tag team match where the action was almost as often in the air as it was on the mat. All four men shone brightly with flurry of fast paced offence. The Guerreros took the spoils in 12:09 when Ultimo Guerrero defeated The Amazing Red by pinfall with a Reverse Superplex. B-

Kevin Kelly is backstage with Rey Mysterio Jr. He says he needs to defeat Christian Cage in Full Metal Mayhem tonight. Rey says he has to prove he can win big and also that he wants to win the TNA Heavyweight Championship. C

TNA X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

Caprice Coleman (champion) v Lance Storm (with Jimmy Hart)

A good match but not quite to the standard that some have come to expect from Caprice Coleman. He was still good though and proved too good even for somebody as good as Lance Storm. The sky is the limit for Coleman but immediate term he got the better of Storm in 15:02 by pinfall with a Thermal Shock. Caprice Coleman makes defence number 12 of his TNA X Division title. C+

Kevin Kelly is seen backstage again, this time with the TNA Heavyweight champion Brother Ray. Kelly asks if Ray knows anything about who is attacking Buff ‘The Puff’ Bagwell. Ray is angry that Kelly is accusing him of doing it, but Kelly whimpers he did not. Ray says he doesn’t know who did it and he hopes Buff is OK and able to face him for the title tonight. Sincere? Perhaps not. C

Brother Devon (with Jimmy Hart), Goldust, John Layfield & Ken Shamrock v Brits Abroad, Doug Williams (TV champion) & The Truth

An action packed eight man tag with some wild brawling involving all eight men on a couple of occasions. A spell then came when all eight men hit the signature moves, which cumulated in 14:45 when Brother Devon defeated The Truth by pinfall with a Deadlyville Drop. C+

Eric Bischoff is in the backstage interview area. Bischoff talks about Brock Lesnar and warns ‘Wildcat’ Chris Harris that he will feel the pain tonight. B-

Abyss (with Harley Race) v Steve Corino

Abyss mostly dominated Corino in a rather one sided match where Corino didn’t get a lot of offence in. The win was pretty much academic and came in 6:23 by pinfall with The Black Hole. Corino was off his game. C-

Brock Lesnar (with Eric Bischoff) v ‘Wildcat’ Chris Harris

Lesnar was equally as dominant as Abyss as he out powered the former World Champion Harris. However, the crowd were turned off by a second straight near squash. Lesnar’s victory came in 6:50 by pinfall with a Tornado Face Slam. The two didn’t click and Harris was off his game which was of further detriment to the match. D

Dusty Rhodes is in his office as TNA Director of Authority. He is deep in thought, pondering who will be the late replacement and challenge Brother Ray for the TNA Heavyweight Championship tonight. While he is deliberating, Austin Aries walks in, one half of the Tag Team champions. Aries tells Rhodes he wants the shot. Rhodes asks him why and Aries says because he is the greatest man who ever lived. Rhodes laughs, but says since he needs somebody and Aries is eager, he has his chance. Aries says he will win the title. Rhodes wishes him luck. C-

TNA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Brother Ray (champion) v Austin Aries (Tag Team champion)

Some great action and a decent crowd despite all the uncertainty surrounding the match. Aries put up a very good showing, not being intimidated of Ray’s bullying demeanour and much larger size, using his speed and ability to constantly cause Ray problems. He came close to winning the title on a couple of occasions before the match reached ten minutes in length.

Then a surprise. Limping and with his ribs wrapped in bandages, out walks Buff ‘The Puff’ Bagwell.

TNA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Brother Ray (champion) v Austin Aries (Tag Team champion) v Buff ‘The Puff’ Bagwell

Buff hit the ring, worse for wear but took the fight to Ray and Aries and cleared the ring to the delight of the crowd. Buff’s condition got the better of him as the match wore on though, and Ray capitalised having thrown Aries out of the ring, he got the better of Bagwell in 20:04 by pinfall with a Bubba Bomb. Brother Ray makes defence number 2 of his TNA Heavyweight title. C+

Christian Cage cuts a promo ahead of Full Metal Mayhem against Rey Mysterio Jr. Cage says he will hurt Rey before embarrassing and removing his mask. C

Full Metal Mayhem

Number One Contender match for the TNA Heavyweight Championship

Some great action and some exciting and dangerous spots in a long match that had the crowd chanting “this is awesome”. Cage was brutal during the match, utilising ladders and chairs in ways they are not meant to be, and causing Rey some serious harm. This reached a crescendo after around half an hour, when with the pair on top of the ladder, Cage grabbed Rey and hit a Killswitch off the top of the ladder and through a table in the ring, leaving both men out and the ladder falling into the ropes. Remarkably, when Cage slowly got up and climbed the ladder to retrieve the contract, Rey somehow got up and flipped Cage off the ladder from about halfway with a hurricarana. Rey fed off strong support from the crowd and pulled off a near miraculous recovery in 36:11 when he climbed the ladder to retrieve the contract and earn a TNA Heavyweight Championship at Against All Odds next month. B

PRE SHOW

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, New Announce Team defeated Divine Storm in 6:23 when The Amazing Red defeated Chris Divine by pinfall with a Code Red. C

The TNA Heavyweight Champion, Brother Ray strides to the ring at the start of Impact. He repeats he did not take out Buff ‘The Puff’ Bagwell and he was glad he was able to make the match and even happier he not only got to beat him, but Austin Aries too. Moving on, his next opponent is Rey Mysterio Jr. He calls out Rey.

Rey comes out to a decent pop from the crowd. Ray asks Rey how his chest is, after being nailed through a table from the top of a ladder courtesy of Christian Cage’s Killswitch. Rey says he is sore, but will bring everything when he faces Ray for the title at Against All Odds, because with the difference in size between the two, Rey says winning is against all odds. C+

Happy Bummers & Steve Corino v Latin American Exchange & Chavo Guerrero Jr

Although Jorge Estrada underperformed, this was a much better match up than the previous contests in the final series and hence was much better received by fans and critics. Chavo Guerrero Jr was revealed as Super Crazy’s replacement in the Mexico team following Crazy’s illness and this was an inspired selection as Chavo won the second TNA Nations Cup for Mexico in 9:01 when Chavo Guerrero Jr. defeated Chris Kanyon by pinfall with a Frog Splash. C

Mexico win the TNA Nations Cup 2005

AK-47 speak from backstage, where they boast they have knocked off another pair of challengers for the NWA TNA Tag Team Championship. Dusty Rhodes stops by and tells them he has decided on their next challengers at Against All Odds, Los Guerreros. Aries says bring them on. C-

Steve Corino is in the ring after an advert for Barbara’s barbed wire. He has a piece of Barbara’s barbed wire in his hand. He says he was disappointed with himself at how he did against Abyss at Genesis and he has something to prove. He looks at the barbed wire in his hand and challenges Abyss to a barbed wire match at Against All Odds. Abyss’ music hits, he appears on stage and his manager Harley Race accepts Corino’s challenge. C+

Brits Abroad v Jerry Lynn & The Miz

A mediocre tag team match which saw the former champions get the better of their opponents with something in hand, taking the match in 8:30 when The Miz defeated Chris Hero by pinfall with a Reality Check. C-

Backstage and Harley Race is talking about his dominating monster Abyss, and how he will rip Steve Corino apart, literally, with barbed wire. Eric Bischoff arrives on scene with the unbeaten Brock Lesnar. Bischoff and Lesnar stare at Race and Abyss. Nobody backs down and no words are spoken before Bischoff leads Lesnar away. C+

Backstage and Al Snow and Maven have attacked Double R. The crowd start cheering Rocky Romero and Roderick Strong as they attempt to fight back, but Snow and Maven get the better of them and leave them lying. Double R’s face turns went well. D

TV TITLE

Doug Williams (champion) v ‘Cowboy’ James Storm

Williams and the Cowboy showed great chemistry as they put on a very good match chock full of suspense, near falls and quality action, with Storm putting in a wrestling performance not many knew he was capable of. With the match on tenterhooks, Williams made a rare mistake when he messed up an attempt at Chaos Theory and it enabled Storm to win the belt in 11:04 by pinfall with a 8-Second Ride. 'Cowboy' James Storm wins the TNA TV title. B-

Backstage and the X Division Champion Caprice Coleman is speaking to Jerry Lynn. Coleman speaks of his respect for Lynn, his accomplishment and his ability. Lynn tells Coleman to stop being condescending. Coleman says he is being sincere when Dusty Rhodes appears on the scene. The TNA Director of Authority says Coleman will defend his title against Lynn at Against All Odds. C+

Buff ‘The Puff’ Bagwell is backstage and understandably very angry. He says he has been the victim of a series of apparently mysterious attacks in recent weeks and this stopped him from winning the TNA Heavyweight Championship. Buff is seething as he reveals that Jeff Jarrett attacked him, he knows as one time when he was lying face down on the concrete, he saw Jarrett’s ring cape trailing as he walked away. C

Jamie Noble v Mike Sanders

An excellent match that the crowd loved where both Noble and Sanders were hugely impressive. Sanders has not been in much action in TNA lately but it didn’t show as he was a big threat to Noble. Noble continued his unbeaten start though as the prevailed in 11:31 by submission with a Guillotine Choke. B

Goldust is backstage, where he taunts The Truth, calling him weird and strange. That’s rich from Goldust. C

In the locker room, John Layfield is ripping into Ken Shamrock, telling him he was the weakest link in the eight man tag team match two nights ago at Genesis. Shamrock is visibly raging and unleashes his fury on Layfield, much to the delight of the crowd. Shamrock’s face turn is a complete success. C-

Christian Cage v Satoshi Kojima

Disappointing given the Noble v Sanders match was of such a high quality. It’s not that the match was bad, it simply didn’t stand up to the previous affair. Cage got the better of Kojima in 14:39 by pinfall with an Unprettier. C

The show might have hurt TNA’s popularity.

PRE SHOW

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, Air Paris defeated Alex Shelley in 5:33 by pinfall with a Tiger Driver. Paris was off his game. C

Broadcast on Spike on Monday, week 1, February 2006

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTxXlrXS5Kz5e09J1ZrWffcdrVMY0V0o8Mn3Yds3HjAM0N_FDKk

John Layfield is in the ring at the start of Impact. He calls out Ken Shamrock, who has no hesitation in striding to the ring and the crowd cheers for him. Layfield verbally rips into Shamrock and calls him the weak link in their eight man tag team match that happened at Genesis. Layfield says they won the match despite Shamrock, rather than because of him. Shamrock calls Layfield “an ass” before laying into him with a double leg takedown and then repeated lefts and rights before a bevvy of officials and security rush down and drag him off. An enraged Shamrock tells Layfield he’ll get more of the same at Against All Odds. C

Mike Tenay and Potter hype what TNA are billing as the blow of match between EZ Money and Vampiro that will happen on Explosion this coming Wednesday night. D

Little Guido v Paul London

Guido drew a lot of heat in this match, attacking London before the opening bell and using heel tactics throughout the match, completely flying in the face of his behaviour in his TNA tenure so far. The match itself was a close affair, with London using his usual exciting offence. However, it was Guido’s newly utilised underhanded tactics that brought success in 6:38 by pinfall after being rolled up and Guido grabbing the tights. Guido’s heel turn was completed and judged a complete success when he attacked London again after the match and flipped the bird to the fans as they booed him. C+

Mike Sanders is backstage, found beaten, battered and bloodied by a mystery attack, echoing what had been happening recently to the now departed Buff ‘The Puff’ Bagwell. Has Jeff Jarrett done this too, as his cape is seen in the background draped over a railing. D

Backstage and security are preventing AK-47 and Los Guerreros from going at it. D+

Al Snow & Maven (with Jimmy Hart) v New Announce Team

A good tag team contest where Hart’s charges got the better of the New Announce Team, who have been struggling to match the success of Joel’s former tag team Spanish Announce Team where he teamed with his brother Jose. NAT have time on their side though while their opponents were once WWE Tag Team Champions. Snow & Maven’s win came in 8:40 when Maven defeated The Amazing Red by pinfall with a Crossbody Block. C

Backstage and tensions are high between TNA Heavyweight Champion Brother Ray and the number one contender Rey Mysterio Jr. The two men eyeball each other ahead of the Against All Odds championship match, though it’s an angled eyeball as Ray towers over Rey. C+

Two men stand in the TNA Director of Authority’s office. One is Dusty Rhodes. The other is.

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ9g4hqRc6ziWx8w1BmYYznGKL8u-tGgPCy_a-FNhQceLeJMrhITQ

Mick Foley says he is delighted to be in Charleston, South Carolina and the crowd pops huge. Mike Tenay and Potter are also marking out at the announce table. Dusty says he is delighted to announce the signing of the Hall of Immortals member Mick Foley and he looks a little smug as he does so. Mick Foley is in TNA and the show goes to a commercial for a TV show featuring fighting robots. C+

Evan Karagias v Jamie Noble

Noble continued his excellent start to his TNA career by dispatching Karagias with no nonsense and a sense of business like precision. His impressive victory came in 11:19 by submission with a Guillotine Choke. B-

Caprice Coleman knocks on the locker room of Jerry Lynn. He offers Lynn a handshake and wants peace, repeating his comment of last week that he has nothing but respect for Lynn. Lynn isn’t interested and attacks Lynn. C+

Steve Corino is in the ring, talking about the upcoming Barbed Wire match with Abyss at Against All Odds. Corino says he’s not afraid of Abyss nor of the barbed wire. Abyss comes to the ring with manager Harley Race and a coil of barbed wire. Corino and Abyss brawl and they spill out to ringside. Abyss tries to hit Corino with the barbed wire, which gets tangled up in the barbed wire and only inches from a couple of terrified fans at ringside. Mike Tenay quickly changes the subject as the show cuts to a commercial for Barbera’s barbed wire. C

TV TITLE

‘Cowboy’ James Storm (champion) v Doug Williams

A good rematch although not quite as good as the first meeting. The brawling of Storm matched up well to the European technical wrestling of Williams. Williams was close to winning the title back but Storm managed to retain in 13:03 by pinfall with a Top Rope Bulldog. 'Cowboy' James Storm makes defence number 1 of his TNA TV title. C+

Backstage and for some unknown reason, Christian Cage takes exception to ‘Wildcat’ Chris Harris, saying it was a fluke he ever won the NWA TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Harris argued he proved himself by being a lengthy and worthy champion. Cage tells Harris to prove it at Against All Odds. Harris says he will. C

Elsewhere backstage and Goldust is accusing Little Jimmy of stealing Gordon, Goldust’s golden dildo. The Truth is enraged and says he has spent all day with Little Jimmy and Jimmy would never do anything like this anyway. Truth then hits Goldust with Gordon, who just happened to be in The Truth’s back pocket. Truly bizarre. C+

Brock Lesnar (with Eric Bischoff) v Bryan Danielson

A great main event that featured some great wrestling and also some hard hitting from Lesnar. Danielson proved to be resilient and at times outwrestled his much larger opponent. Lesnar though continued his unbeaten start in TNA by overcoming Danielson in 14:40 by pinfall with a Tornado Face Slam. B

Show rating: B-

The show can be considered a success and should increase TNA’s popularity.

Some of the angles did not reach the standard of the matches.
