NYCW - Passing the torch

Recommended Posts

Your characters are all so real on screen and off. By far my favorite work on the forums. I can literally feel the emotion. I absolutely hate The Whistler, but you made me cheer for him against workers I normally like. Congradulations and keep up the good work.

Thanks Maxx, I appreciate your kind words. I always like to try and give the key guys distinct personalities and I am glad you are enjoying it.

I was getting ready to send out the last batch of posters for our Manhattan Project show when Uncle Derek Popped in.

Me: "Hey Uncle Derek, how goes it? Just getting ready to send the last batch of posters out."

Stomper: "Good, but listen, I need to tell you a couple of things. You have heard about PCCW opening in California?"

Me: "Yeah, Heidi Brooks started it up right?"

Stomper: "Yes she did and she asked me for some help."

Me: "Help with what?"

Stomper: "With getting things up and running, so I will be doing some Road agent work for her. She also asked about some talent, so I got Honest Frank, Whistler and Lee Wright pay per appearance deals and Michale Bull is going to book for her."

Me: "What? You mean in essence you are opening NYCW West, I thought this was your pride and joy?"

Stomper: "Terry, relax, her shows will be the 4th Friday of every month and there is only one scheduled right now, so there is no conflict. Plus this give some of the guys another payday."

Me: "OK, I guess I overreacted and I apologize. I should have known you would always put NYCW first."

Stomper: "It is, but Black Hat is going to have to start handling the road agent duties. TCW just got their Saturday night showcase TV show going and I will be the primary agent for that. You have things stable here and Tommy is giving mw a nice chunk of change, which will help me in my retirement fund, so I need to do this. I trust you enough to not screw things up or I would not have done it."

Me: "Have you lost your F***ing mind? You will not be at our only show of the month just to boost your IRA?"

Stomper: (Loses it) "First off Terry, you talk to me like that again and you will be part of the damn pavement outside. NYCW is my pride and joy and you should be flattered I would entrust things to you and even consider doing what I am doing you little bastard. What I do for my retirement is not your concern, you are here to book MY company and if you can't do that then maybe you should find another place to work!!"

I am floored, in a classic heat reversal I am the bad guy and can hit the road if I don't like it? I just don't get my Uncles line of thinking, but one thing I do get is that I need a full time road agent, not Black Hat jumping in. Well, he did hire me to book so I will do just that and the first thing I will do after Manhattan project, will be to hire another road agent.....Afterall, he did say he trusted me.

NYCW – Manhattan Project – Week 2 June 2010

Pre-Show

Regular Joe vs Land Mass

Land Mass can’t even keep up with the younger Joe, who struggles to handle his bulk, but easily wears him down with speed and hits the Joe and Behold for the win.

In a match that had an average crowd reaction but featured terrible wrestling, Regular Joe defeated Land Mass in 5:34 by pinfall with a Joe and Behold.

Edward Cornell vs Animal Harker

Cornell, with Streetz at ringside took it to Harker early and duped the Animal into several mistakes by taking advantage of his intellect. Harker finally lost it and went on a rampage pummeling Cornell and at one point sending him sliding under the bottom rope and into Streetz arms, which brought some less than flattering remarks from the crowd. Regaining his composure, Cornell caught Harker trying to come off the top ropes and crotched him on the turnbuckle, pulling him down and transitioning nicely into a black Lightning Bomb.

In an extremely poor match, Edward Cornell defeated Animal Harker in 10:28 by pinfall with a Black Lightning Bomb.

As Larry Vessey walks to the ring for his final match, a music video is shown which some old footage Stomper was able to dig up. Despite the fact is generally a miserable person, seeing some old match footage brings a smile to Larry’s face as the crowd gives him a nice ovation.

Larry Vessey vs Black Hat Bailey

After a slow feeling out process the two veterans go at it and surprisingly, Black Hat keeps it clean for the most part as the two men put on an exhibition of good technical 80’s style wrestling. Of course, this continues only until Bailey feels threatened at which point he lands a low blow and then tries his best to rip Vessey’s arm from its socket. Larry stages a late rally and attempts to go for a suplex mid ring, but Bailey blocks it, then rolls him up to go over clean in the center of the ring.

In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Black Hat Bailey defeated Larry Vessey in 8:29 by pinfall.

Black Hat Bailey extends his hand after the match and as Vessey takes it he pats him on the back……Then delivers a Russian leg sweep as Honest Frank and Steve Flash storm the the ring. The beat down is on and Vessey is sent off into the sunset with a healthy dose of shoe leather, before Whistler runs in from the back and drives the Gas House Gang away with his new Flagpole. As the Gas House Gang reaches the back Bailey grabs a microphone. “Hey Vessey, I couldn’t find a gold watch for you, so consider those bruises our farewell gift to you…..Happy trails punk!!” The three men then disappear into the back laughing.

Marv Statler vs The Masked Mauler

The Mauler spends a good portion of the early going avoiding any prolonged contact with Statler, while trying to menace the crowd. Statler finally takes matter into his own hands and hip tosses Mauler into the ring form the apron and gives him wrestling lesson, culminating in an atomic drop that send Mauler hopping around the ring like the Easter bunny. The Mauler comes back and latches onto to Statler with a Claw hold, but Marv is able to break free, slip behind Mauler after the latter tries to scoop him up for a slam, and nail the Backdrop Backbreaker.

In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Marv Statler defeated The Masked Mauler in 12:03 by pinfall with a Backdrop Backbreaker.

Handsome Stranger is backstage with Herb Stately. “You know Herb, I must tell you, your Hair; it is immaculate, so rich and full. Not as stylish and suave as mine, but very nice nonetheless.”

Herb: “Thank you, but what about Donnie J, that guy annoys the hell out of me, please tell me you are going thrash him tonight within an inch of his life.”

Stranger: “Roger, surely you jest. So long I have waited for this moment, he and I alone, the greatest prize on the east coast soon to be mine. My only fear is that I will not be able to please all the ladies that will now want to come to the palace of the Handsome Stranger and partake of all his goodness……Take a good look at these fine abdominal muscles…..It will be almost a shame to cover them with my new Championship belt later this evening.”

Dean Waldorf vs Samoan Machine

Waldorf ignores the Samoan Machine, who performs the Haka prior to the match in an attempt to intimidate him and instead attacks Machine before the bell rings to the delight of the crowd. Waldorf gets the better of the Machine at every turn, but once again power conquers style as Waldorf’s run is abruptly ended with a vicious Power slam. In world of hurt, Waldorf barely escapes the Samoan Driver and scores a near pin on a sunset flip. Streetz is now at ringside and as Waldorf gets Samoan Machine up for a body slam near the ropes, Streetz yanks his feet out from under him and Machine falls on top of Waldorf and gets the three count.

In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Samoan Machine defeated Dean Waldorf in 9:50 by pinfall after a distraction from Streetz.

As he regains his senses Dean is furious. “Streetz, you can dress yourself up like P Diddy and come out here with your swagger, rapping like some cheap Jay Z knockoff. Roger Cage © vs Dazzling Dave Diamond – NYCW Tri-State Title

Triple D is in rare form, pulling a lady out the crowd to square dance, swigging on the Beer of a fan in a Peterbilt hat (Maybe the only one in New York City) and whooping it up, right until Cage shuts him up with a clothesline. Triple D gets the worst of it early, but soon rallies and nails Cage three times running with his patented flying head scissors, which the crowd enjoys immensely. Cage returns fire with a series of wicked chops and struts around the ring as Diamond writhes in pain in the corner. Cages time wasting again costs him as Diamond hits a Bulldog and hoists him up for the Dazzle Driver, as Edward Cornell slides into the ring and takes Diamonds knee out. Cage then hits an elbow off the top rope and covers Diamond as Bull makes the count, 1…2…3!

In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Roger Cage defeated Dazzling Dave Diamond in 15:35 by pinfall with a Cage Rage following interference from The New York Doll. During the match we also had Edward Cornell run in and attack Triple D. Roger Cage makes defense number 2 of his NYCW Tri-State Regional title.

Streetz joins Edward Cornell in the ring and lifts the microphone to speak, but Cornell stops him and takes the microphone from his manager. “Streetz, no disrespect man you’ve kept it real with Roger, but he ain’t even told us boo yet. Cage, I know where you are coming from my man. You are a talented bad ass dude, you’ve got some moxy, you’ve got the look, but you don’t have an identity. You were stuck cleaning up Sammy the Sharks messes and for what? He was too busy with his belt to think about a Tag team title match, or maybe helping you get a shot at the Empire title……You were in his shadow.”

Cage: “Roger Cage walks in nobodies shadow and I did what I did for friendship, which in the end got me jack. You guys talk about swagger and street smarts and the future. While my future is now, I don’t need some slick street poet and a young punk with a silver spoon in his mouth to tell me about how it should be. I’ve got street smarts, I’ve got charisma and that’s a word you can’t even rhyme with Streetz, so tell me what you can do for somebody who is too fresh, too slick, too cool for school and definitely too cool for this rat hole called NYCW. My future is beyond here, but unlike you Eddie Silver Spoon, I can’t call my cousin when I want to come home to TCW, I have to earn it!”

Edward: “You think it's a cake walk being a Cornell? You think I can go anywhere and do anything I please because I come from the Kennedy’s of professional wrestling? It’s hell being a Cornell Cage!! Tommy did this, Tommy is great, don’t embarrass the family, Tommy walks on water, will you ever be as good as Tommy? Screw Tommy and screw everybody and their expectations!! I came here to make my own name and together with Doll and Streetz we are, and will be the future of NYCW and there is room for you with us, don’t be a fool Cage!”

Cage: “Not interested!” With that he leaves the ring again as Streetz and Cornell look at each other in disbelief.

The Gas House Gang vs American Patriot, Whistler & Rayne Man.

Whistler wants Flash to start but Steve sends Lee Wright out and the brawl is on. Wright attacks first, but Whistler blocks his shots and Irish whips him into Flash who is arguing with the crowd. Bull signals Flash was tagged and must enter the ring. Flash resists and Whistler takes matters into his own hands, pulling him over the top rope. Before long all 6 men are brawling as Michael Bull struggles to keep control of the battle. Whistler hits a Rebel yell on Flash and covers him as Rayne man jumps on to the second rope to count with the referee, as he does so Black Hat Bailey appears and pushing him into the ring and has hand hits Whistlers back as he falls in. Bull rules it a tag and orders Whistler out of the ring. As the two men argue Lee Wright clotheslines Rayne Man and drags Flash to the corner where he tags Honest Frank as Bull turns around. Frank hits the Frank-N-Hurter on Rayne Man and once again the Gas House Gang has found a way to escape with a win.

In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Steve Flash, Honest Frank and Lee Wright defeated American Patriot, Whistler and Rayne Man in 16:06 when Honest Frank defeated Rayne Man by pinfall with a Frank-N-Hurter following interference from Black Hat Bailey.

In the ensuing commotion, Steve Flash goes after Whistler's flag again and this time Whistler reaches him first and it is on once again. With the other combatants going at it outside the Ring Whistler hits another Rebel Yell on Flash, covers him with the flag, pretends to shovel dirt on him, then removes the flag and spits in Flashes face as he lies motionless in the ring.

Donnie J © vs Handsome Stranger - NYCW Empire Title

Stranger is determined to win this time and he comes in well prepared, catching the Champion early with a brutal Powerbomb and slowly breaking him down with a drop kick to the knee and a rear Chinlock that nearly breaks Donnie J in two. The Champion is resilient though and storms back, whipping Handsome Stranger into the corner, mounting the turnbuckle and pounding away as the crowd counts the punches. A missile drop kick sends Stranger flying and also takes out referee Michael Bull who was caught in the crossfire. Donnie J tries to revive him, but to no avail, so he turns his attention back to Stranger, who pokes him in the eyes. As Donnie J recovers, Handsome Stranger goes to a turnbuckle and recovers a roll of quarters he had hidden there earlier. As he goes to nail Donnie J, the Champ blocks his punch, grabs the quarters from his hand and levels Handsome Stranger with a shot to the jaw as coins fly everywhere. He covers the Stranger, but is greeted by the sound of the bell instead, as referee Bull witnessed the punch and disqualifies the Champion!

In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Handsome Stranger defeated Donnie J in 18:40 by disqualification. Donnie J retains the belt due to a disqualification.

Backstage:

Land Mass comes up to me after the show and admits that he has lost the fire, which shows in his work. He asks for another position with the company as he feels his days as a Wrestler are done. I couldn’t agree with him more and let him know I will think about it. That’s a lie as my decision is already made, he will be released Monday.

Black Hat: “I overheard you and Land Mass talking, too bad, but in truth it is overdue. It’s hard to get old in this business kid.”

Me: “I can only imagine, the shame is I have no roles for him as he certainly can’t manage the road agent duties and there is just nothing else to do.”

Black Hat: “Don’t get sentimental Terry, its only business…Granted I hated it too, which is why I quit doing it, but it doesn’t change what it is. Hey, I do have some feedback, I think you need to remember to keep Triple D in short matches, that crazy sucker uses so much energy in his entrances he is gassed by the 10 minute mark, not that I have room to talk. We have got to get the heat up on the angles too and I think you may want to back off on the flag angles, those seem to be turning the crowd off.”

Me: “Thanks Bo, I appreciate it….Plus it’s nice not getting yelled at.”

Black Hat: (laughing) “Hey you know me….A big lovable Heel in a Black Bowler….And don’t get down, the crowd still liked the show and our attendance is going up every month….that’s all you can ask for.”

Black Hat was much nicer to deal with as a Road Agent than Uncle Terry, maybe this whole TCW thing was not that bad afterall. I did realize another thing that Bo did not mention and that was our Pre-Show needs to be stronger. I would fix that for Red, White and Bruised in July.

Thanks for the predictions, nobody hit the main event and though Donnie J retains the title I felt I needed to put Stranger over a bit to keep some heat on this storyline, even it is a DQ win. Not close to the quality of shows Dragonmack is achieving, but I am happy we are continuing to gain popularity, over the next two shows I will need to blow a couple of feuds off and start a fresh storyline or two and will hopefully hit regional by the end of September to get a little extra cash.

Nothing like a New York summer and I was anxious for our July show, "Red, White and Bruised' to get here as I had just finished June’s numbers and they were not good. Due to a horrific month of merchandise sales and worker costs just under $23,000 for “Manhattan Project” we lost $2,655.00 for the month, despite our highest gate of the year. I looked over at Uncle Derek, taking a mid morning nap on the couch and debated how I was going to break the news to him. Even though we still had over $98 K in the company coffers, Uncle Derek would dive into the sewer if he dropped a quarter into it and he was not going to happy.

I decided to take a walk around the block and as I left the office and started down the stairs I ran into Samoan Machine.

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x32/Kidbrit/TEW/SamoanMachine.jpg

Machine: “Hey brah, how goes it?”

Me: “Hi Bali, how are you?”

Machine: “I’m good brah, but I have to talk to you about a couple of things.”

Me: “Could one of those things be the deal you just signed with Pride Glory Honor Wrestling?”

Machine: “Yeah it is…..You know I now work for three companies in Japan and am working at least two days a week over there. In fact brah, I have to fly out right after our show this month to join the PGHW tour that kicks off Sunday. Brah, you gave me a huge push and I want to say thank you for all you have done, but after Red, White and Bruised I will be leaving the company. I just need to focus on where I am making the most money and the travel is just too much brah.”

Me: “Hey I understand Bali, and totally support you. You have been a great worker here and I appreciate the effort you have given us.”

Machine: “Mahalo…..Hey is your Uncle in there, I would like to thank him too.”

Me: (Laughing) “He is, but we lost money last month and he is taking a nap. If he wakes up he will be in a bad mood and then he will ask me how we did and I will have to tell him, which will put him in an even worse mood and then…………”

Machine: (Laughing) “I hear ya brah….Will you tell him for me…”

Me: “And you are the monster heel……Still afraid to job to the Stomper eh?”

Machine: “Brah, I don’t think he is called Stomper because he is a good dancer.”

Me: “Ok tough guy, I’ll let him know….”

Machine: (Smiling) “Mahalo.”

I watched Bali walk down the stairs and realized I was going to miss him. For as scary as he was in the ring, he was one of the nice guys in the business and always did things the right way…As he neared the bottom of the stairs I called after him…. ”Bali……..Good luck over there buddy.”

He gave me the hang loose sign and disappeared around the corner. Suddenly, I was overcome with a wave of brilliance and decided I needed a day off. I called a Taxi to come pick me up and take me to Central Park, then quietly tiptoed into the office and jotted a note down for Uncle Derek, before heading off to enjoy a beautiful day, more than content to postpone my ass chewing for later.

Uncle Derek,

Heading down to Central Park, thinking a day in the park will stir my creative juices for the upcoming show. Finished June numbers, we had our best gate ever, good sponsorship money too…..Things looking good attendance wise. We did lose a couple of grand, but I am sure we will get it back in no time.

Talk to you later

Terry

PS. Samoan Machine will be leaving after Red, White and Bruised, got another deal in Japan.

PSS. Have a great day!

<p>Quick Picks</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Donnie J</strong> vs Honest Frank - NYCW Empire Title</p><p>

<em>Despite my fondness of the Honest one, Donnie is your standard bearer right now</em></p><p> </p><p>

Black Hat Bailey vs <strong>Rayne Man</strong></p><p>

<em>Bailey has to be close to retirement and Rayne is a relatively big name for a small promotion, thus Bailey puts him over.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Roger Cage</strong> vs Jared Johnson - NYCW Tri-State Title</p><p>

<em>Johnson has potential in a year or two, but Cage is your rock in the midcard now.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Ring Generals</strong> vs The Young Moguls (Cornell / Doll) - NYCW Tag Titles</p><p>

<em>The Young moguls wont be the team to dethrone the Generals.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Samoan Machine</strong> vs Kentucky Bill</p><p>

<em>You wouldn't really job out the departing Samoan Machine to Kentucky Bill, would you?! Would you?</em></p><p> </p><p>

Whistler vs <strong>Steve Flash</strong> </p><p>

<em>Heel Flash should be your next title challenger.</em></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Just as a side note, even though we still share about half the same roster, its interesting how much our NYCW's have diverged in less than a game year.</p>
