Anyone run a "shoot" promotion?

Recommended Posts

Just curious if anyone runs a promotion where the match results are determined by the AI instead of choosing the winner. For fun, I ran one with TCW where I choose Decisive Finish for every match and a couple of notes based on who was involved or where the match was on the card. Here are the results. Keep in mind these were done by the AI:

Joey Minnesota d Benny Benson (70)

Vessey d Tornado (78)

Andrews d Edd Stone (62)

New Wave d Tag Team Specialists (67)

Bach d Taylor (62)

Law d Peak (72)

RDJ/Golden d Cornell/Hawkins (79)

Considering this was on the fly and no real booking planning put into it, the results aren't too bad. I would imagine that booking this way would necessitate more unchained storylines, but I think it could work and be interesting to work with.

Thoughts? Any one run a promotion like this long term? How did it go?

I often do this a lot. Sometimes it helps me determine who to push. I don't look at it as the AI picking the winner, but instead the crowd. I always use road agent notes to determine a match a certain way, but the winner is left blank. If I have a main event feud between two really over workers who are practically on the same level - I don't book the winner - why? Like I said, I see it as the crowd picking the winner. ;)

Unless I'm trying to push a specific worker/complete a storyline step, I tend to leave the winner blank, just to see what happens. So often a show of mine might have 5 matches, and often 3 or 4 of those will have no pre-determined (by me at least) winner. Makes things interesting as most of the time matches will go the way you'd expect, but once or twice I've had a jobber take down an aging midcarder.

I see the appeal of playing this way, but I wonder...is the idea of leaving this note blank really to have a shoot match, or is the idea that you are leaving it up to the workers and the road agent who goes over, instead of deciding it yourself?

The latter. For actual shoot matches, WMMA is the way to go. This simply allows people suspend their belief.

Now I have 3 TV shows for TCW I'm using 2 of my shows to get people over and the new third longer tv show im using to put both brands together so the main eventers have longer to put on good matches.

I dont select winners with my 3rd tv show but I do when using the brand shows.

Works kinda similar with PPV's too as I run an all promotion PPV every month but no brand PPV's.
