ECW 1999: Hardcore Revolution

Recommended Posts

wow I can't believe I got 5/6 predictions correct, I was taking a shot in the dark with some of my guesses. I expected to get the four way wrong because four way dances are unpredictable most of the time. As for the song, I am not a big rock/metal fan so I really wouldn't be able to pick a proper song to fit the show and ecw. So I guess you could either pick or pick a runner up to choose the song.

I knew it was a crap prize.. ill have another think and see if I can come up with anything better.. but congrats again on the predictions..

Both this and the WCW 1995 diary are good. Takes me back and I like the booking of both of these.

why thank you :) ill have to give the WCW 1995 diary a look if I ever get the time (I take it you mean Hive's 'Birth of Nitro'?)

im putting the finishing touches to a couple of Hardcore TV write-ups tonight, and ill put up a preview shortly (ie, when ive written it)..

ECW HARDCORE TV PREVIEW

Week 4, January 1999

After last weekend’s House Party at the ECW Arena, Hardcore TV presents three matches that were set up by events at the Arena. First up, we see two luchadores who were on the losing side of their matches go one-on-one as Yoshihiro Tajiri and Rencor Latino battle; with Rencor making his US television debut. Another luchadore gets a shot at the World Television Championship, held by Rob Van Dam – as Super Calo cashes in his reward for leaving the four way Lucha match victorious.

Rob Van Dam, however, comes in after a defeat to the hands of the Dudley Boyz – who look to defend their newly won World Tag Team Titles against the Japanese team of Jado and Gedo from the FMW promotion. Also expected to be in attendance are Sid Vicious, Justin Credible and ‘The Franchise’ Shane Douglas.

No titles changing hands and Tajiri gets his win back. By the way who is Rencor Latino? I don't remember him and when I tried to look him up I got no results.

Rencor Latino is Averno before he was 'satanized' by El Satánico and joined Los Infernales.. not actually sure if he was ever in WCW but he was similar overness in the US as Lizmark/Calo/King so I dont know..

ECW HARDCORE TV RESULTS

Week 4, January 1999

Friday on the MSG Network / Saturday on the Sunshine Network

Taped at the Aleppo Shrine Auditorium [Wilmington, MA]

Dark Match: Jerry Lynn def. Ulf Herman in 3:43 via submission [25]

Dark Match: The Gangstanators def. The Tennessee Cowboys in 4:59 via pinfall [17]

The show opens with Justin Credible and Sid Vicious in the ring; Justin has a smug grin on his face and a microphone. Credible talks about how he told Dreamer that he would lose at the pay-per-view; Justin didn’t need Sid’s help to be victorious – he just enjoys seeing Dreamer get his ass kicked. Credible hands over to Sid, and the big man laughs at both Dreamer and Terry Funk – and talks about how he has beat them both up, and he enjoyed it. Justin challenges them to a tag team match for Crossing the Line; when ECW returns to the ECW Arena in three weeks. The pair are interrupted by the arrival of a scrawny looking kid, announced as ‘Kid Vicious’. [45]

Sid Vicious -vs- Kid Vicious

Kid Vicious throws a right hand at Sid, who catches it and drops his impersonator with a big boot. Sid grabs him by the throat and in one movement drags the smaller man from the canvas to the air; and plants him with the Chokeslam for the easy victory.

Sid Vicious def. Kid Vicious in 0:47 via pinfall [29]

Sid mockingly wipes his brow as Credible, Samu and Jason Knight join him in the ring to celebrate – they are interrupted by the returning Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk. Dreamer and Funk hit the ring, as Sid and Justin high tail it to the outside – leaving the other two members of The Entourage to take a beating. Jason is quickly disposed of by a Spicoli Driver; whilst Samu is locked into a spinning toe hold before being dragged out of harm’s way by Credible. [40]

Rencor Latino -vs- Yoshihiro Tajiri

With both men suffering defeat at the weekend at House Party, both the Japanese buzzsaw and the young luchadore from Mexico went at it with reckless abandon. Rencor got the advantage early on and sent Tajiri to the outside with a flying headscissors; which he quickly followed with a springboard tope con giro to take Tajiri out at ringside. Latino pumps the fans up at ringside and inspires a ‘Lucha Libre’ chant. The pair head back into the ring, with Rencor looking for a quick Powerbomb; only for Tajiri to counter and land a flip over DDT for a close two count. With both competitors seemingly at a stalemate, it took a flurry of kicks from Tajiri and a vicious looking Brainbuster to earn him the pinfall victory.

Yoshihiro Tajiri def. Rencor Latino in 9:55 via pinfall [37]

‘The Franchise’ Shane Douglas hits the ring as Tajiri celebrates victory, and takes the Japanese wrestler down with a chop block. Douglas disrespects Tajiri by slapping the back of his head before dragging him into a belly-to-back suplex. [34] The Franchise gets on the stick and calls Taz a ‘piece of ****’ and wants him to get his ass in the ring and take the beating he deserves. [49] Taz calmly walks out from the back in his street clothes and squares up to Douglas; the Champion stands, arms folded as Douglas backs down and exits the ring. [46]

ECW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

The Dudley Boyz © -vs- Jado and Gedo

With the new Tag Team Champions in hot form, this looked like a tough match for the visiting FMW team. But Jado and Gedo showed great team work to isolate D-Von and gain the advantage early on. With the influence of Sign Guy and Studley Dudley at ringside, Big Dick introduced a chair to the ring in an attempt to help D-Von. This backfired, as Jado slammed the chair square on the head of D-Von, but the subsequent cover could only garner a two count. Frustrated, Buh Buh Ray went under the ring and returned with a table in hand – he set it up at ringside and began arguing with the fans. Once he finally reappeared on the apron, D-Von had battled back and made the tag. Jado was quickly dispatched by an elbow – as Gedo was pulled from the apron by Big Dick as hell had seemingly broken loose. Gedo quickly gained the upperhand of Big Dick and flattened him with a chair shot. Buh Buh Ray had Jado positioned on the opposite apron for a Powerbomb – and the tag champion planted him through the table at ringside. D-Von tagged back in, and as Gedo entered he turned straight into a Dudley Death Drop and the match was over.

D-Von Dudley def. Gedo in 9:16 via pinfall [30]

The Dudley Boyz stay in the ring after their successful title defence, with Buh Buh Ray calling every single tag team in ECW useless – that’s why a team from FMW were flown in; and the Dudleyz beat them as well. The ‘greatest team in the world’ will take on any ‘stupid bastards’ who think they can beat them, and that includes RVD and Sabu. Buh Buh gets into an argument with the fans at ringside, while D-Von tells everybody to testify. [35]

ECW WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Rob Van Dam © -vs- Super Calo

On the back of a strong showing in the four way dance, Super Calo started the bout in a confident mood as he looks to add further misery to the week of Rob Van Dam. Calo threw the champion around the ring with a series of arm drags before a tornado DDT gave him a solid two count. Van Dam battled back as the match turned into a striking battle – with RVD’s kicks giving him the edge as he knocked Calo back into the corner. A duo of shoulder thrusts was followed by a back handspring and a monkey flip to send the luchadore crashing across the ring. Van Dam is quick to follow up, with a cartwheel and a standing moonsault to gather a two count. Calo battles back and finds himself perched on the top rope as RVD staggers to his feet – the champion is met with a diving Hurricanrana, but somehow manages to edge a shoulder out just before the three count. Super Calo heads back to the top rope, but Van Dam is quick to join him and after a struggle, plants Calo with a northern lights suplex from the top rope. RVD gets back to his feet and uses the top rope to land a picture perfect split-legged moonsault – which puts Calo away for the three count to retain his title.

Rob Van Dam def. Super Calo in 10:50 via pinfall [43]

The show closes with the same video from last week set to “Living Dead Girl” by Rob Zombie recapping the main event of Guilty as Charged – where Taz defeated Shane Douglas with the Tazmission for the ECW World Heavyweight Championship. [45]

full marks to everyone this week.. a transition show really (as are most Hardcore TV's).. a few notes.. Kid Vicious is a young Shane Helms.. in his profile it says his nickname was Kid Vicious so I ran with it.. expect him to appear as a jobber/in dark matches as simply Shane Helms in the future..

Tajiri, as predicted, gets his win back over the young luchadore.. whilst the Dudleyz and RVD have successful defenses..

ill get an update on the happenings in WWF/WCW as the month is over.. and then we'll keep on burning through till Crossing the Line..

JANUARY 1999 RECAP

WWF Royal Rumble

Week 3, January 1999

Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena [Los Angeles, CA]

Kane wins the 1999 Royal Rumble [76]

The Rock def. Kane to retain the WWF Championship [81]

Mankind def. Road Dogg [81]

The Godfather def. Tiger Ali Singh [43]

Tori def. Chyna to win the WWF Women’s Championship [55]

Ken Shamrock def. Kurt Angle to retain the WWF Intercontinental Championship [54]

Terri def. Luna Vachon [50]

Dennis Knight def. Scorpio [31]

Christian def. Brad Armstrong [50]

Mark Henry def. MEN’s Teioh [40]

Overall Rating: 76

The WWF put on an interesting card for their first pay-per-view as Kane unsuccessfully challenged for the WWF Title before being victorious in the Royal Rumble match itself, presumably setting up a rematch with The Rock further down the line. With poor-quality matches strewn throughout the event, the Mankind and Road Dogg hardcore battle was the clear best of the rest.

WCW/nWo Souled Out

Week 3, January 1999

First Union Center [Philadelphia, PA]

Kevin Nash def. Lex Luger to retain the WCW Championship [75]

Ric Flair def. Roddy Piper [81]

Billy Kidman def. Prince Iaukea to retain the WCW Cruiserweight Championship [58]

Kenny Kaos and Rick Steiner def. Barry Windham and Curt Hennig to retain the WCW Tag Team Championship [61]

Bam Bam Bigelow def. Juventud Guerrera [63]

Norman Smiley def. Konnan [60]

Scott Steiner def. Hector Garza to retain the WCW Television Championship [65]

Chris Kanyon and Raven def. Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko [75]

Faces of Fear def. Perry Saturn and Buff Bagwell [58]

Kaz Hayashi def. The Wall [24]

Bret Hart def. Psychosis to retain the WCW United States Championship [70]

Ernest Miller def. Riggs [42]

Overall Rating: 75

Kevin Nash held on to the WCW Title as he bested the challenge of Lex Luger with help from Hollywood Hogan. Ric Flair overcame old foe Roddy Piper while a tag contest between four young upstarts proved to be the best match on the undercard – with Raven and Kanyon leaving victorious.

Just a quick look at the two 'big' pay-per-views of the month.. and Ive also editted in a Show History in the first post.. just a piece of housekeeping.. another preview coming up later tonight..

ECW HARDCORE TV PREVIEW

Week 1, February 1999

Hardcore TV this week is graced by the in-ring presence of the ECW World Champion Taz, as he defends his title against former Triple Threat member Chris Candido. Taz is set to face Shane Douglas, the former leader of the Triple Threat, in just two weeks at ECW’s Crossing the Line – but we could be set to have a clash of the Triple Threat should Candido pull off the upset.

Also in action this week are Steve Corino and Jerry Lynn; who will go one-on-one in what is expected to be a great contest. Our opening contest sees Kid Kash make his first Hardcore TV appearance, as he gets a shot at Rob Van Dam and the World Television Title.

ECW HARDCORE TV RESULTS

Week 1, February 1999

Friday on the MSG Network / Saturday on the Sunshine Network

Taped at the Summit County Fairgrounds Arena Complex [Tallmadge, OH]

Dark Match: Danny Doring & Amish Roadkill def. The Tennessee Cowboys in 5:52 via pinfall [22]

Dark Match: Sid Vicious def. Super Nova in 1:55 via pinfall [39]

Joey Styles introduces the show and after telling the fans what to expect on tonight’s show; he talks about the rematch between Taz and Shane Douglas for the ECW Title at Crossing the Line in two weeks time at the ECW Arena. [31]

ECW WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Rob Van Dam © -vs- Kid Kash

Our opener pits the experience TV Champ against a young upstart in the form of Kid Kash; with the relatively unknown Kash proving a difficult task for Van Dam in the early minutes of the match. Kash plants RVD with a fisherman’s buster and earns a two count, before heading up to the top rope and waiting for Van Dam to resurface. As the champion reaches his feet, Kash launches himself and connects with a corkscrew senton and makes a cover for another two count. With the champion seemingly out of things, Kash applies a double underhook and lifts Van Dam high; but RVD counters the momentum and forces Kash back into the corner. A monkey flip later and Van Dam finds himself perched high on the top rope with his opponent lying prone in the centre of the ring – the Whole F’N Show lands a Five Star Frog Splash and hangs on to his title in a surprisingly tough battle.

Rob Van Dam def. Kid Kash in 8:32 via pinfall [49]

As Rob Van Dam celebrates his victory, he is interrupted by an unfamiliar man – C.W. Anderson introduces himself as a member of the great Anderson wrestling family. He wants to make an impact, and with his ECW debut he wants to take Rob Van Dam and teach him a lesson in wrestling, Anderson-style. [27] RVD grabs a microphone, and simply tells Anderson to get himself ready for next week; he gets a match for the TV Title. [25]

Jerry Lynn -vs- Steve Corino

Lynn and Corino hooked up and a solid technical contest was underway; with both men showing their strength but neither garnering a key advantage. Corino was the first to look like winning as he knocked Lynn down with an enzuigiri before landing a snap leg drop for a two count. Corino continued applying pressure and planted Lynn with an STO before floating over into a cobra clutch – but was unable to submit Lynn who reached the ropes and forced the break. Looking to end the match, Corino sits Lynn on the top turnbuckle and sets him up for a northern lights suplex – but Lynn hits a reversal and plants him with a tornado DDT to gain a two count. With the momentum shifting, Lynn lands a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and looks for the pinfall – but only manages to conjure up a two count. Lynn heads to the top rope and risks everything with a moonsault – Corino rolls clear, but Lynn spots this and changes in the air to land on his feet; as Corino turns round he is met by a lariat and covered for another two count. With frustration slowly creeping in, Lynn grabs Corino’s left arm and quickly applies the cross Armbar and forces his opponent into submission.

Jerry Lynn def. Steve Corino in 11:06 via submission [39]

A microphone is passed into the ring for the victor, and Jerry Lynn is quick to recall a couple of losses he suffered in recent months. Lynn talks about how he was defeated in November and then again in January by one man – a man who has recently decided that he is better than everyone else. He is, of course, talking about Lance Storm – and Lynn calls out Storm and wants a rematch; he wants the chance to prove that Storm’s victories and recent run were just a flash in the pan; an anomaly in the record books. Lynn lays it on the line, and challenges Storm to put up or shut up at Crossing the Line in two weeks. [30] Lance Storm makes his way out, and visibly angered by Lynn’s words he hits the ring and starts swinging. Storm tries to get the upper hand, but Lynn battles back and hits a clothesline to send Storm crashing out of the ring. [29]

Joey Styles confirms that Storm and Lynn has been signed for Crossing the Line at the ECW Arena; along with the previously announced Taz vs. Douglas rematch and the Vicious/Credible vs. Dreamer/Funk tag team battle. [33]

ECW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Taz © -vs- Chris Candido

After defending his title at House Party Taz was attacked by Shane Douglas, now he has to fight Douglas’ former partner Chris Candido – with Candido looking to do his former friend a favour. Taz had other ideas and started the match with a series of stiff rights and lefts before taking Candido down with a short-arm lariat. Taz keeps the pressure on Candido and beats him down for several minutes before planting him with a t-bone suplex. After neglecting to make the cover, Taz throws Candido with an overhead belly to belly suplex – before stalking him as he staggered to his feet. Candido throws a wild punch, which is caught by Taz and turned into a capture suplex – this time Taz makes the cover but only gets a two count. The presence of Tammy at ringside distracts both the referee and the champion, and allows Candido to regain his composure and lifts Taz up for a delayed vertical suplex. After several seconds, Candido plants Taz and floats over for the cover but can only manage a two count on the champion. Candido drags Taz into the corner and mounts the top rope; he tries to pull Taz up with him, looking for his favoured Superbomb – but Taz is too strong and launches him with another suplex. As Candido gets to his feet, Taz latches on with the Tazmission and drags him down to the canvas – with the bodyscissors applied Candido is forced to tap out.

Taz def. Chris Candido in 12:12 via submission [37]

Taz celebrates his victory over the fallen Candido; when Shane Douglas hops over the barricade and slides into the ring. The Franchise hits Taz with a chop block and takes the champion down; before putting the boots to Taz. Douglas drags Taz to his feet, before planting him with a belly-to-belly suplex. The Franchise picks up the ECW Title and raises it above his head – declaring that he will be champion again. [42]

The show ends with a video set to “Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck” by Grinspoon which details the events between the pairing of Justin Credible and Sid Vicious and the pairing of Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk dating back to November, and running through to last week on Hardcore TV. [48]

Overall Show Rating: 37

A reasonably happy outing, with several things now in place as we move forward towards the next Arena show.. weve got the Taz/Douglas rematch.. Storm/Lynn and obviously the Dreamer/Funk/Sid/Credible tag encounter.. we were looking at a pretty solid show..

as for the predictions, it seems everyone wants Corino to get his push.. dont worry - it will happen; but its not his time yet.. honestly, with how things are at the moment Ill need to wait until a few of the top stars leave/get poached before I can start pushing the King up the card..

speaking of pushes, Im hoping to introduce C.W. and get him a place in the midcard.. RVD seems to get a good match out of everybody so its not a bad starting place for the lad..

onwards...

I've not read a diary for ages but I do loves me some late 90's ECW action, plus I hate big blocky shows, so this is ideal for me, easy to read and keep up with.

Couple of wants, if you fancy being a really good boy, bring Hayabusa and Shinzaki back to ECW if you can, reckon any combo of them with Tajiri, Super Crazy or Super Calo could produce some stellar singles or multi-man matches. Plus with Jedo and Gado you could get some nice TV/PPV tag encounters in the books.

Oh and when Mike Awesome returns, please have some type of interaction between he and SID, however small, that would be awesome and I know you could do it justice.

Good stuff so far .5.

ECW HARDCORE TV PREVIEW

Week 2, February 1999

With just days to go before Crossing the Line; we will see a tag team match that has the potential to have a massive effect on the event at the ECW Arena. Our main event at Saturday night will be a rematch between Taz and Shane Douglas for the ECW Title; and tonight they will be on opposite teams – with Douglas teaming with former Triple Threat partner Chris Candido and Taz teaming with the man whose neck he broke just 6 weeks ago, Sabu.

We will also see the in-ring debut of C.W. Anderson – who last week stepped up to the plate and challenged Rob Van Dam for the World Television Title. Hardcore TV will open with Lucha Libre action as Super Crazy goes one-on-one with Silver King; in what is sure to be a great example of the best of Mexican wrestling.

Thanks for the comments mate; a few points ill make with regards to what you said..

Hayabusa is currently a champion in FMW (Tag Titles with Ikeda) so i cant trade him over.. and he only works in Japan so hes a no go until he loses that title im afraid.. Shinzaki currently works with M-Pro and AJPW and only in Japan.. I have been thinking of getting a working agreement with M-Pro so he is definately a possibility down the line.. but if I worked with AJPW I could get Hayabusa as well; its a shame neither man has much overness in the states.. both at 17..

with Awesome out until at least July.. I cant see Sid being with us for that long.. Im not sure exactly when his contract is up; but hes way too over to stay with a regional promotion..

I need to do more writing; currently working on Crossing the Line.. but ive already booked four TV shows in-game since then.. I need to catch up..

ECW HARDCORE TV RESULTS

Week 2, February 1999

Friday on the MSG Network / Saturday on the Sunshine Network

Taped at the Everett Arena [Concord, NH]

Dark Match: Masato Tanaka def. Shane Helms in 4:11 via pinfall [29]

Dark Match: The Dudley Boyz def. The Gangstanators in 8:31 via pinfall [32]

Joey Styles kicks off the action as he runs down the expected matches for tonight and talks about the upcoming rematch between Taz and Shane Douglas on Saturday night at the ECW Arena. [40]

Silver King -vs- Super Crazy

Our opening contest started off at a blistering pace with a series of arm drags and hip tosses from both competitors with neither Super Crazy nor Silver King being able to cement the early advantage. King hit the ropes and looked to catch Crazy with a Tornado DDT; but is pushed off and catches a dropkick for his troubles – sending him crashing through the ropes to the outside. Crazy charges and launches himself over the ropes, looking for a corkscrew plancha – but finds nothing but the concrete floor as Silver King has the wherewithal to move out of the way. King is quick to climb to the apron and, using the ropes to springboard himself, catches Crazy with a cross body on the outside. King slides Crazy back into the ring, and somersaults over the ropes – landing a leg drop on the other side to grab a two count. King stamps his foot and builds the crowd as Crazy staggers back to his feet – he launches a Silver Kick but is caught by Crazy; who spins through and catches him with a heel kick flush on the jaw. Crazy heads to the top rope, but King quickly re-gathers his composure and joins him on the middle rope. After a back and forth exchange, Crazy has the advantage and hooks King up – before launching himself to plant King with the Crazy Bomb from the top rope; and picks up the victory.

Super Crazy def. Silver King in 7:31 via pinfall [41]

Tommy Dreamer makes his way to the ring and grabs a microphone; Tommy is still pissed off but believes he has waited long enough. Dreamer is pissed off with two people; but not for the obvious reasons. Tommy isn’t pissed off that Justin Credible and Sid Vicious screwed Dreamer out of a victory at Guilty as Charged – he is pissed off because the bastards disrespected Terry Funk. It’s one thing disrespecting Tommy Dreamer, he can handle that – he could even handle ECW being disrespected – but he draws the line at disrespecting Terry Funk. Dreamer wants Justin Credible in the ring, right here, tonight. [33] Justin Credible makes his way out, but laughs at Dreamer’s ‘heart-felt speech’ and tells Tommy that he won’t be facing him tonight – but he can face a member of his Entourage instead; Samu. [36]

Tommy Dreamer -vs- Samu

With a point to prove, Dreamer came out like a house on fire and began clubbing Samu with vicious rights and lefts. Samu was planted with a neckbreaker, before trying to mount a comeback – this backfired for the Samoan as he ended up in the tree of woe in the corner. Dreamer was quick to build up the crowd before landing a dropkick to the tied up Samu. He signalled for the end, as he hoisted Samu high on his shoulders and dropped him with the Spicoli Driver for the dominant victory.

Tommy Dreamer def. Samu in 3:32 via pinfall [32]

The ECW World Television Champion Rob Van Dam heads to the ring, accompanied by Bill Alfonso. Van Dam talks about how each and every week he has come out here and defended his World TV Title against all comers; and how he believes that he is the epitome of the fighting champion. RVD talks about how tonight will be no different, C.W. Anderson came out last week and made a challenge – and Van Dam is the type of dude to step up to the plate and accept any sort of challenge. [51]

ECW WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Rob Van Dam © -vs- C.W. Anderson

After his surprise challenge last week, C.W. has a lot to prove as this match begins – he offers a handshake to the champion; but is quick to spin RVD into a single arm DDT. He makes the cover but Van Dam kicks out at one and springs back to his feet – catching Anderson off guard with a spin kick to take him down. Mr Pay-Per-View is quick to land a spinning leg drop to get a two count; before hitting the ropes and looking for the rolling thunder – as Van Dam looks for the senton, C.W. gets his knees up and blocks the champion. Anderson goes on the offensive, first throwing Van Dam with a perfect exploder suplex – and following up with a fireman’s carry into an arm breaker for a two count. Anderson keeps on the pressure after the kick out and locks RVD up with an Armbar – but the champion quickly rolls out of the move and back to his feet. Anderson throws a left haymaker, which RVD dodges – catching C.W. with a spinning crescent kick to take the challenger down. Van Dam heads up to the top rope and clips Anderson as he gets back to his feet with a diving super kick – as Van Dam rolls through and pops up to the opposite top turnbuckle. Van Dam launches himself, twisting in the air, and landing a picture perfect Five Star Frog Splash that puts away the competent challenger.

Rob Van Dam def. C.W. Anderson in 10:43 via pinfall [50]

Before we have our main event match-up; Shane Douglas makes his way to the ring and is out here to ‘cut the crap’. Last week he showed exactly why he should be the ECW Champion – he brutally beat down the current ‘piece of crap’ that’s posing as the champion. Douglas claims that tonight will be no different, as for one night only the Triple Threat is back to take out two men who have been causing them trouble for years – tonight it’s two birds with one stone. Sabu and Taz can go to hell; come Saturday night The Franchise is back in control – and the Triple Threat will rise again with victory tonight. [53]

Shane Douglas and Chris Candido -vs- Taz and Sabu

Our main event saw a reformation of sorts of the Triple Threat as Douglas and Candido combined to take on the common enemy. With the match breaking down quickly, Taz and Douglas paired off in the ring with Sabu and Candido spilling to the outside. Candido looked to take advantage of Sabu as he introduced a chair into proceedings – but this backfired after a missed swing that left Candido to eat a dropkick for his troubles. Taz and Douglas were left to exchange a series of suplexs in the ring before Candido was rolled inside – Taz made the cover on Douglas following a T-Bone Tazplex but only managed a two count. Sabu hopped onto the apron with steel chair in hand; and used the ropes to springboard himself onto Candido with an Arabian Facebuster. Taz and Sabu then had a staredown – with Sabu pointing to the heavens. The temporary distraction allowed Douglas to drop Taz with a chop block – and connect with a stiff lariat on Sabu. The Franchise helped Candido to his feet and the pair began to put the boots into Sabu; before Candido went to the top rope and landed a diving headbutt. Douglas made the cover, but Taz was there to break it up – sending Douglas crashing through the ropes to the outside. Candido began brawling with Taz, but the champion gained the edge thanks to a capture suplex that left Candido down. Sabu, having regained his senses, launched himself over the ropes and onto Douglas on the outside – this allowed Taz to lock up Candido in the Tazmission and pick up the submission victory for his team.

Taz def. Chris Candido in 12:29 via submission [40]

The show ends with a video set to “Dragula” by Rob Zombie covering the past few months of action between Taz and Shane Douglas, culminating with tonight’s tag team match as we look ahead to Crossing the Line – this weekend at the ECW Arena. [46]

ECW CROSSING THE LINE 1999 PREVIEW

Week 2, February 1999

Extreme Championship Wrestling returns to Philadelphia and the ECW Arena as we see a rematch for the ECW World Heavyweight Championship from last month’s pay-per-view Guilty as Charged. Taz, who captured the championship just a month ago, will put the title on the line against the former champion Shane Douglas. Both men have been on form and look to take the gold home and cement their place as ECW’s top dog.

The on-going rivalry between the team of Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk and the team of Justin Credible and Sid Vicious will culminate in what is sure to be a bloody battle. Dreamer and Credible have been battling each other for the past several months, but it was the arrival of Sid Vicious that made things personal – with Sid making both Dreamer and his mentor Funk targets in his quest to rule the world.

Lance Storm and Jerry Lynn will reignite their rivalry after Lynn refused to be left as a footnote in Storm’s ascension up the ranks in ECW. With Storm holding two victories over Lynn, he is sure to go into the match as the favourite – but Lynn is determined to prove that he is as good, if not better, than the Canadian.

In a match stemming from last night’s Hardcore TV – Sabu and Chris Candido will do battle after they were on opposite teams in the main event. Candido requested his chance to take out Sabu after tasting a steel chair on numerous occasions – a victory will likely catapult either man into the title picture.

Crossing the Line will see a series of tag team clashes as five teams will enter a gauntlet match. Two teams will start, with another team entering after each elimination – which can come by pinfall or submission.

ECW CROSSING THE LINE 1999 RESULTS

Week 2, February 1999

Saturday on Home Video

Live from the ECW Arena [Philadelphia, PA]

Dark Match: C.W. Anderson def. Chris Chettis in 6:40 via pinfall [30]

Dark Match: Rob Van Dam def. Skull Von Krush in 5:44 via pinfall [44]

The show opens up with Lance Storm making his way towards the ring; he gets on the house mic and immediately talks down the abilities of Jerry Lynn – claiming that he shouldn’t need to beat him tonight, as he has already beaten him twice. While Storm is the personification of Perfect, Lynn is purely average in every respect. [38] Storm goes on to look past his match tonight, and talks about how he has set his sights on the World Television Title and how he plans to challenge Rob Van Dam for the title at the Living Dangerously pay-per-view next month. [46]

Lance Storm -vs- Jerry Lynn

Lynn hits the ring for our opening contest and quickly locks up with Storm – using a quick snapmare to take him down, before applying a choke hold. Storm rolls Lynn forward and the pair get back to their feet; with Storm throwing Lynn with an arm drag before catching him with a dropkick to send Lynn through the ropes. Storm attempts to springboard himself over the ropes onto Lynn, but misses his target and crashes headfirst into the apron. Lynn climbs onto the apron and catches Storm with a flying Hurricanrana sending his opponent into the barricade at ringside. The pair eventually get back into the ring and brawl back and forth for several minutes until Storm has Lynn on his shoulders with a fireman’s carry – he drops Lynn down and catches him with a punt to the face; earning himself a close two count. As Lynn gets back to his feet; Storm leaps to the top rope and dives backwards to catch Lynn with a flying Crossbody. The Canadian lifts Lynn up for a Powerbomb; but spins in a full 360 before planting Lynn for a two count. Storm stalks Lynn as he gets to his feet and launches a superkick – but Lynn catches it; spins Storm around and catches him with a crescent kick.

Both men are down as the referee begins to count; as he reaches seven Lynn is back to his feet and grabs hold of Storm – he spins him round with a tilt-a-whirl before dropping him with a backbreaker to gain a two count. Lynn drags Storm to his feet; and throws him with a German suplex – he bridges into a pinfall attempt, but can only manage a two count. Storm catches a second wind as he rolls out of the pinfall attempt; and catches Lynn with a DDT. He whips Lynn across the ring; and as he rebounds he rolls through looking for the Canadian Maple Leaf – Lynn uses his momentum against Storm and rolls through into his own Boston Crab. Lynn tightens up the hold, but Storm refuses to tap – forcing Lynn to release the hold. He drops down and grabs the dazed Storm – locking him in a cross armbreaker; Lynn wrenches backwards and the hold is locked in tight – Storm has no option but to submit.

Jerry Lynn def. Lance Storm in 15:19 via submission [52]

As Storm is rolled out of the ring, Jerry Lynn is handed a microphone – he jokes about how average he was in that match; before speculating about challenging for the TV Title himself. [45] Rob Van Dam makes an appearance and tells Lynn that he can have his match at Living Dangerously, but RVD will show the world why he is the whole ****ing show! [50]

The ECW World Tag Team Champions, The Dudley Boyz make their way to the ring – with Buh Buh Ray immediately claiming that they have defeated every single opponent ECW has put in front of them. D-Von continues by saying that is the reason why this five team gauntlet match has been made tonight – with the winner getting a shot at the Dudleyz later on tonight. Buh Buh runs through the list of teams and asks Studley Dudley to rate their chances – to which he responded ‘not a chance’ each time. The Dudleyz leave with Buh Buh telling the fans that they will be back soon enough. [52]

TAG TEAM GAUNTLET

The Tennessee Cowboys -vs- Hardcore Chair Swingin’ Freaks

The first entrants to the Gauntlet match are the unknown rookies – James Storm and Chris Harris – two young cowboys from Tennessee. They seem to start out well until the bell sounds, and Ballz and Axl connect with stereo chair shots. The Freaks begin beating on the Cowboys, pummelling away with several lefts and rights – before Axl lifts Harris high; spins him around and plants him with a Death Valley Driver. Ballz scoops Storm up, and slams him down before heading to the top rope – landing a New Jersey Jam for the pinfall victory.

Ballz Mahoney def. James Storm in 4:14 via pinfall [28]

Full Blooded Italians -vs- Hardcore Chair Swingin’ Freaks

The FBI hit the ring, with all four members attacking Ballz and Axl before they can get to their feet. Mamaluke and Rich hold down Ballz whilst Guido heads up to the top rope – Guido launches off the top and lands the Sicilian Slice to take out Ballz. Rotten began to get the better of his exchange with Smothers; dropping him with an exploder suplex before grabbing his steel chair. Axl swings and takes out the Big Don with his first shot; he swings again and down goes Mamaluke – a third attempt is unsuccessful as a low dropkick from Guido drops him to his knees. Smothers catches Axl on the jaw with a spinning wheel kick – before Guido grabs hold of Axl’s leg and locks in the Sicilian Crab forcing the submission.

Little Guido def. Axl Rotten in 4:50 via submission [40]

Full Blooded Italians -vs- The Gangstanators

New Jack and Kronus head towards the ring, carrying a trash can full of weapons and a table respectively. Mamaluke charges at New Jack as he makes his entrance and catches a cookie sheet across the head for his troubles. Kronus slides the table into the ring; but gets caught by a flying Guido – who launched himself over the top rope and lands a plancha on the bigger man. Smothers sets up the table in the ring; but is spun round by New Jack – who splits a hockey stick over his head. Guido enters the ring, but catches a series of punches from New Jack – before an elbow to the head took him down. New Jack picks up a guitar from his trash can at ringside; and begins to play it whilst Guido gets to his feet – before smashing the guitar to pieces over the head of Guido. New Jack drags Guido onto the table and heads outside to grab a chair – he climbs to the top rope and points towards Guido. New Jack launches himself, looking for the 187 – but the Big Don pulls Guido from the table to safety – sending New Jack crashing through the table. Smothers gathers himself as Mamaluke and Kronus brawl on the outside – allowing Tracey to make the cover and steal the victory.

Tracey Smothers def. New Jack in 5:18 via pinfall [34]

Full Blooded Italians -vs- Danny Doring and Amish Roadkill

Our final entrants are the young team of Danny Doring and Roadkill – with the Angry Amish Chicken Plucker taking down every Italian in sight with a stiff lariat. Roadkill and Doring focus their attacks on the legal members of the FBI; but fail to notice Mamaluke and Rich enter the ring and give the Italians the numbers advantage. Doring is thrown from the ring by the Big Don; who heads outside and beats him down – allowing a 3-on-1 attack on the much bigger Roadkill. Guido heads up top; whilst Smothers and Mamaluke catch their attempted hip toss of Roadkill – with Guido launching himself and landing the Kiss of Death triple team. On the outside; Doring over-powers Rich and takes him down with a clothesline – before heading onto the apron, springboarding himself into the ring and taking out both Mamaluke and Smothers with a double lariat. Roadkill recovers and plants a distracted Guido with a spinning side slam – before instructing Doring to head up to the top. Roadkill hooks up Guido with a wheelbarrow hold; allowing Doring to land the Buggy Bang – to give his team the victory.

ECW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

The Dudley Boyz © -vs- Danny Doring and Amish Roadkill

The gauntlet apparently has one more entrant – as the World Tag Team Champions return to the ring – with Studley Dudley demanding the bell be rung for a title match. The Dudleyz have the early advantage from their surprise arrival; but Roadkill soon uses his size to his advantage and takes control over D-Von. Roadkill plants him with a body slam; before tagging in Doring – who quickly flies into the ring with a Danaconda Drop for a two count. Doring tries to lift D-Von up for the Bareback – but the bigger man reverses the momentum and slips behind the Dastardly One. D-Von drives Doring into the corner and tags in Buh Buh Ray – allowing the champions to initiate a two-on-one beatdown which draws Roadkill into the ring. With the referee apprehending Roadkill on the opposite side of the ring; the Dudleyz send Doring into the ropes – catching him with the Dudley Death Drop on the rebound. D-Von charges across the ring and knocks Roadkill to the outside; allowing his brother to make the cover and score the victory.

Buh Buh Ray Dudley def. Danny Doring in 7:57 via pinfall [46]

Following the tag team madness, Chris Candido makes his way down to the ring, he cuts a short and simple promo detailing how he is planning to use Sabu as a stepping stone towards the ECW World Title and keep the name of the Triple Threat strong. [39]

Sabu -vs- Chris Candido

Sabu hits the ring; with Bill Alfonso and a steel chair in tow – with Candido meeting him on the apron with a right hand. Candido grabs Sabu and lifts him into the ring – stalling with him above head; before planting him with a vertical suplex. Sabu kicks out from the subsequent cover, but Candido continues to beat on him with vicious stomps and kicks to the body. Sabu eventually gets back into the match after several minutes, by reversing an attempted reverse Piledriver and planting Candido on his head with the Arabian Piledriver for a close two count. Candido gets to his feet in the corner as Sabu grabs a chair from ringside; he sets it up in front of Candido and charges towards him – using the chair as a step lands Air Sabu in the corner. Candido staggers out of the corner, and catches the chair in his face as it is thrown by Sabu – who heads to the second rope. Sabu grabs the dazed Candido and plants him with a tornado DDT – getting a two count for his efforts. Sabu uses the chair for assistance again, to throw himself into a triple jump moonsault – but Candido gets his knees up and catches the flying Sabu in the ribs.

Candido throws Sabu shoulder first into the turnbuckle; and heads up to the top rope – he grabs Sabu, and pulls him onto the top rope as well. In one swift movement, Candido lifts Sabu up and plants him with the Blonde Bombshell from the top rope – leaving both men down on the canvas. Candido crawls slowly into the cover; but as the referee’s hand comes down for a third time – Sabu lifts his shoulder up and the match continues. A visibly frustrated Candido drags himself up the ropes once again; before launching himself at the prone Sabu – but misses the attempted New Jersey Jam, with Sabu rolling to safety at the last second. Sabu drops a quick leg drop on Candido before lifting the chair high above his head and pointing to the heavens – he rests the chair over the face of Candido and heads to the apron. Sabu uses the top rope to somersault himself into the ring; where he lands the Arabian Facebuster on Candido and makes the cover – securing the victory.

Sabu def. Chris Candido in 13:18 via pinfall [46]

Terry Funk makes his way down to the ring in preparation for our tag team contest, but he is attacked by all four members of The Entourage – with Justin directing traffic and Sid doing most of the damage, as he plants Funk with a Powerbomb on the concrete floor. [41] All four members escape to the ring as Tommy Dreamer enters to make the save, Dreamer checks on the fallen Funk and calls for the medical team – who bring out a stretcher. Dreamer leaves the medical team to take Funk to the back, and tells Credible and Vicious that revenge is a bitch and that Terry Funk won’t be down for long. [57]

Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk -vs- Justin Credible and Sid Vicious

Justin sends Jason and Samu intor the ring to feel the brunt of the Innovator of Violence’s offence. Dreamer rocks both men with punches, before dropping them with a double clothesline. Samu bounces to his feet, but is lifted up and dropped on his head with a Spicolli Driver. Jason struggles back to his feet but is hoisted high and planted with a TommyHawk by Dreamer. Sid and Justin used this to get into the ring and attack Dreamer from behind; with Justin directed Sid to pummel away on Dreamer in the corner. Vicious lifts Dreamer onto his shoulder, and drops him face first with a Snake Eyes – as Dreamer reels backwards, Justin catches him with a superkick and knocks him down. Credible makes the nonchalant cover and only gets a one count – but drags Dreamer back to his feet and shouts instructions to Sid. Credible looks to launch Dreamer, but Tommy reverses the momentum – as Justin goes face first into the big boot from Sid.

Dreamer catches Sid with a number of rights and lefts, but is brushed off by the big man – he throws a low dropkick and catches the left knee. With Sid slightly rocked; Dreamer heads up to the second rope and attempts a cross body – but is caught by Sid and planted with a sidewalk slam. Sid checks on Justin and helps him to his feet as Dreamer rolls to the outside. Dreamer grabs a chair from the front row and catches Sid on the head as he leans through the ropes – the big man staggers backwards but doesn’t fall down. Dreamer slides into the ring, and swings for Credible – who high-tails it and heads to the outside. Dreamer catches Sid in the ribs and drops the chair – grabbing Sid, and planting him with a DDT onto the steel. Dreamer makes the cover, but Credible makes the save after two. Credible clubs away at the back of Dreamer, but is pushed away and dropped with a clothesline. Dreamer scoops him up and puts him in the tree of woe in the corner – picks up the steel chair and lands a low dropkick to the face of Credible.

Dreamer drags Credible up to the top rope and lifts him onto his shoulders – he looks for the Dreamer Driver; but Sid meets him with a shot to the stomach to save his partner. Credible falls down to the outside as Sid steps onto the other side of Dreamer on the apron – he grabs hold of him and lifts him high above his head. Sid launches Dreamer with a Powerbomb and sends him crashing into the barricade on the outside. A bloody and battered Terry Funk staggers down the aisle towards the ring; he slides in and meets Justin with a flurry of punches – kicks him in the gut and plants him with a Piledriver. Funk rolls into the cover, but Sid stomps the back of his head and breaks up the pin – drags Funk up and plants him with a Powerbomb. Sid makes the cover, but Funk rolls a shoulder up at two – a frustrated Sid lifts Funk up high again and plants him with another Powerbomb. Sid makes the cover for a second time, and this time Funk stays down and tastes defeat.

Sid Vicious def. Terry Funk in 17:53 via pinfall [47]

Justin Credible grabs a microphone and talks up his ‘divide and conquer’ tactics that have effectively killed the careers of both Tommy Dreamer and the ‘Hardcore Hasbeen’ Terry Funk. Sid Vicious grabs the mic and pronounces ‘Terry Funk is Dead!’ – before dropping the mic and leaving the ring, with Justin in tow. [52]

As we prepare for the main event, ‘The Franchise’ Shane Douglas makes his way to the ring, accompanied by Francine. Douglas gets on the stick and talks about Taz and his reign of boredom as the ECW Champion; he calls him a complete farce of a champion and claims that Francine could carry the company better as the pinnacle of ECW. Taz’ days of champion are numbered because he woke up the sleeping monster inside the Franchise, and tonight that monster will take back what is rightfully his – the ECW Title! [60]

ECW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Taz © -vs- Shane Douglas

Our main event kicked off with a fired-up Shane Douglas attempt to take the fight to the champion – but with every attempted lock-up from Douglas, Taz shrugged him and sent him reeling to the outside. Douglas became increasingly frustrated and started shouting abuse at the fans at ringside – Taz joined him on the outside, and connected with a stiff clothesline as Douglas turned round. Taz grabs Douglas and attempts to roll him back into the ring – but the Franchise reverses the momentum and sends Taz crashing into the ring post. Douglas drives Taz back into the barricade and then into the apron – before getting into the faces of the fans at ringside shouting ‘I’m the ****ing Franchise!’ Douglas sends Taz back inside and stomps away at the champion as he tries to get to his feet – Taz gets to the corner, but eats boots from the Franchise. Douglas drags him to his feet and drops him with a neckbreaker for a two count – Taz gets back to his feet, but is planted by a DDT for another quick two count.

Taz sits up, but Douglas flips over him and hits a neck snap – before catching the champion in the face with a dropkick. Douglas throws his arms out and shouts that ‘this is it’ – he grabs Taz and hooks him up for the Pittsburgh Plunge. Taz blocks it, and throws Douglas overhead and through the ropes with a release suplex. Taz regains his composure, but leans through the ropes to grab Douglas – who swings a steel chair and catches the champion on the head. Douglas slides in wielding the chair, and wraps it around the ankle of Taz – Douglas heads to the top rope, and looks for a diving stomp – but Taz rolls out of the way. Taz kicks his leg free and throws the chair to the outside; he grabs hold of Douglas as he gets to his feet and plants him with an exploder suplex for a two count.

Both men get to their feet and start swinging, Douglas gets the upper hand of the exchange and sends Taz across the ring with an Irish Whip – as Taz rebounds Douglas wraps him up with a sleeper hold. Taz begins to fade as Douglas drags him down to the canvas screaming for Taz to tap out – as Taz looks to lose consciousness; Douglas rolls into a cover – but the champion kicks out at two. Douglas screams at Francine to pass him the chair – she obliges and hands him the chair as Taz gets back to his feet. Douglas swings, but the champion moves out of the way – Taz grabs Douglas from behind and locks in the Tazmission. The champion drags Douglas to the canvas and locks in a body scissors – forcing Douglas to submit.

Taz def. Shane Douglas in 24:23 via submission [58]

As Taz is handed the title and holds it high above his head; the lights go out and the ECW Arena is plunged into darkness. As the lights return, the crowd cheer as Sabu is standing in the ring pointing to the heavens and signalling to the champion that he wants a title shot – from Taz’ body language, it seems the match is on. [54]

[2/5] - BigM

A tad disappointed with only the one set of predictions.. I thought the card was pretty decent for a non-PPV event.. I know the Tag Gauntlet was a little thrown together but it builds on the Dudleyz push..

the show as a whole sets up the Taz/Sabu match.. continues the Dreamer/Sid/Credible battle.. gives me an excuse to run RVD/Lynn.. I thought it went well overall..

sorry it took a while to get up.. but ive been busy.. and we'd slipped to page 4 (may be the reason for the lack of predictions) but ahh well.. ill get Hardcore TV's up soon and keep plugging away until Living Dangerously.. which im hoping will be a big PPV..

ECW HARDCORE TV PREVIEW

Week 3, February 1999

The fallout from Crossing the Line sees two Championship matches take place on Hardcore TV – as the Dudley Boyz continue their search for worthy challengers as they take on the makeshift team of Stevie Richards and Chris Chetti. But first, Rob Van Dam is in action as he defends his Television Title against the ever-dangerous Japanese Buzzsaw – Yoshihiro Tajiri.

Our main event sees the de-facto number one contender Sabu take on the young upstart C.W. Anderson. Justin Credible and Sid Vicious are also expected to be in attendance as they plan to host a funeral for the career of Terry Funk.

SABU -vs- C.W. ANDERSON

Go CW! But Sabu's getting a World title match, so this is the way it goes.

THE DUDLEY BOYZ © -vs- STEVIE RICHARDS and CHRIS CHETTI

Poor Stevie. He's pretty much jobbed left and right since coming back to ECW.

ROB VAN DAM © -vs- YOSHIHIRO TAJIRI

Kinda sad to know that Tajiri isn't gonna be the one to stop the rise of RVD, because he would make a very nice TV champ probably. But the build is to RVD vs Lynn, so that's gonna be how it is.
