I sat scribbling some ideas for the upcoming booking meeting after the show when I saw George DeColt leave Stampy's office. Like his in-ring persona would suggest, George is a really genuine guy who adores his family. His family, in fact, stood just a few feet from the office door, eagerly awaiting the DeColt family patriarch. Once they saw George, the middle child, Alex, ran over and jumped into his dad's arms. He is clearly his father's favorite. George swung him around in a circle as Alex giggled. The youngest, Jack, toddled over to George unsteadily, apparently having just celebrated his first birthday, while the eldest, Steve, stood behind Mrs. DeColt, clinging to her skirts. A momma's boy, apparently.

I was somewhat surprised to see my wife standing there, holding Thom and chatting with Mrs. DeColt. Noticing that I was watching them, Mrs. DeColt loudly made my wife solemnly swear that our Thom wouldn't be in the wrestling business. My wife laughed, knowing full well that the DeColt boys would probably be training with the Stone boys within the year if George and Dan Sr. had anything to say about it, but raised her right hand and swore the oath nonetheless.

I was happy that George was around. Very few of the regular TWL guys have kids (at least ones they claimed...Floyd...). Several are married, but only Stampy and Krogan have children, and they're all at least teenagers. I crossed my fingers that the DeColts would be around for awhile. It was nice to see some other couples with young kids. We spent a lot of time with the Finches, but they weren't wrestling fans. Please Stampy, let George stay around!

TWL Texas Two Step is just a few days away and features some very high-profile matches. Here are the contests announced thus far:

The Nation (Chief Two Eagles/Prophet/Cobra/Viper) v. Disciples of Evilness (Professor Nero/TimberWolf/Warlord Agony/Warlord Pain)

These two teams finally meet inside the squared circle. Will the ring be able to contain the pent-up anger and violence?

Non-Title: Team Texas (Archie Judge/The Lone Star Stampeder) v. The Border Runners (Carlos Reyes/Luis Reyes)

Team Texas saved the Show Stealers from a beatdown administered by the Reyes' last show and have a long-standing rivalry. Can Archie and Stampy pull off the upset or will the Reyes' prove once again that they can manipulate the system for their benefit?

'Perfect' Pat Deacon w/Major WG Reginald III v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

Deacon lost in the tournament semifinals to George DeColt. Can he rebound against Jason Jackson or will the self-proclaimed 'Texas Legend Killer' add another victim?

Trailer Park Kid v. Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman

Bowman told the Kid that being an Outlaw was a lifetime commitment. Trailer Park Kid didn't want to abandon his friends. How will these former allies do when pitted against one another?

TWL Title Tournament Finals: 'Gorgeous' George DeColt v. Johnny Boy

The finals in the TWL Title Tournament pit Mark Krogan's former protege, Johnny Boy Tucker, against Krogan's chosen tournament participant, George DeColt. Which man will emerge victorious?

Quick Picks:

The Nation (Chief Two Eagles/Prophet/Cobra/Viper) v. Disciples of Evilness (Professor Nero/TimberWolf/Warlord Agony/Warlord Pain)

Non-Title: Team Texas (Archie Judge/The Lone Star Stampeder) v. The Border Runners (Carlos Reyes/Luis Reyes)

'Perfect' Pat Deacon w/Major WG Reginald III v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

Trailer Park Kid v. Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman

TWL Title Tournament Finals: 'Gorgeous' George DeColt v. Johnny Boy Tucker

The lack of Dusty Hoff is disappointing. I'm pleased you enjoy my reasoning (or lack thereof.)

The Nation (Chief Two Eagles/Prophet/Cobra/Viper) v. Disciples of Evilness (Professor Nero/TimberWolf/Warlord Agony/Warlord Pain)

- A bit of a gamble I just hope these two teams don't do to a double DQ. How is Ref Billy going to manage all this mayhem? I think the DoE win through nefarious means because in all this carnage how could one ref be expected to see something as small as a cane to the eye?

Non-Title: Team Texas (Archie Judge/The Lone Star Stampeder) v. The Border Runners (Carlos Reyes/Luis Reyes)

- I'd not put Tex Teamass over the Runners but they need a new set of challengers and this a perfectly acceptable 1977 way of starting a mini-feud while you build up the tag team division.

'Perfect' Pat Deacon w/Major WG Reginald III v. 'New School' Jason Jackson

- Deacon lost last month cleanly to DeColt so he's no longer perfect, while Jackson contiues to expand the class size as Leader of the New School. So it's dream time for Pat.

Trailer Park Kid v. Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman

- F-Bomb wins when TPK can't find his lighter to light up a mid-match motivational cigarette. He should learn from Krogan and switch to chaw, dammit.

TWL Title Tournament Finals: 'Gorgeous' George DeColt v. Johnny Boy Tucker

- A bit of a God Push for DeColt but why not? He's probably the most talented member of the roster and this means he can help make Johnny Boy before jumping somewhere more lucrative. Having him at the top with a target means he can essentially 'in ring learn' the heels. Plus he has kids.

<em>Billy’s Take</em>: The Disciples came to the ring first, eliciting loud boos from the audience, directed particularly at the nefarious leader of the group, Professor Nero. When the Nation arrived, the crowd erupted, giving Chief Two Eagles particular adulation. Inside the ring, this was a chaotic brawl and I had a very difficult time keeping the match under control. At several points, all eight men were inside the ring, forcing me to try and physically separate these powerful wrestlers. In the midst of this chaos, with the Crimson Serpent Cult and the Lords of War battling outside the ring, Professor Nero threw his trusty cane toward TimberWolf. The Prophet intercepted the stick, leaving its intended target, TimberWolf, susceptible to an attack from Chief Two Eagles. Chief connected with a skull-splitting Tomahawk Chop from the second rope to secure the win for his team.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>An irate <strong>Professor Nero </strong>slid into the ring and flattened the <strong>Prophet</strong> from behind. He grabbed the cane from the fallen seer and swung it viciously at <strong>Chief Two Eagles</strong>. Chief flicked his hand out and caught the cane in midair, pulling it effortlessly from Nero’s grasp. Nero let out a terrifying shriek, his wail echoing around the walls of the arena. With Chief focused intently on Nero, the <strong>Lords of War </strong>snuck behind the leader of the Nation and hit simultaneous clotheslines, sending the Chief sprawling to the mat. While Professor Nero and <strong>TimberWolf</strong> keeping the <strong>Crimson Serpent Cult </strong>at bay, the Lords of War meted their revenge on the motionless leader of the Nation. </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Non-title: Team Texas (Archie ‘The Governor Judge/The Lone Star Stampeder) v. The Border Runners (Carlos Reyes/Luis Reyes)</strong></p><p>

<em>Billy’s Take</em>: Team Texas came to the ring carrying flowers – yellow roses to be exact – and passing them out to fans sitting at ringside. When the Border Runners came out, they attempted to confiscate the roses, but were rebuffed by the fans, who hurled racial epithets at the immigrant heels. Once it began, this match was an exciting back and forth. As usual, Luis Reyes stood out as the star of the match, although Stampy and Archie displayed tremendous teamwork to keep the Reyes’ from gaining too much momentum. It was this teamwork that ultimately decided the match. Carlos was in the ring and hurled Stampy into the ropes. Stampy, showing his veteran wiles, blindly tagged in Archie, unbeknownst to Carlos. With Carlos focused solely on Stampy, Archie slid in behind the elder Reyes brother and pulled him down from behind, locking him in a schoolboy to get the quick one, two three. </p><p>

Carlos and Luis escaped to the floor and grabbed their titles. Carlos repeatedly pointed to his, indicating that they were still the champs, despite the loss. </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>‘New School’ Jason Jackson </strong>led Double Disaster, <strong>Eruption and Tsunami</strong>, and their manager <strong>Larry Laffer</strong>, the Leisure-Suited Los Angeles Lounge Lizard, to the ring. Jackson arrogantly took the microphone while Laffer looked out into the crowd and made lewd gestures to several women. <span style="color:#FF0000;">“Tonight I have like quite a challenge. ‘Imperfect’ Pat Deacon is a two-time TWL champion and is like recognized as one of the greatest wrestlers in Texas. But that’s like being the world’s tallest midget or the least-inbred Dallas redneck. It don’t mean jack****. I’m from California,” </span>Jackson enunciated the word Ca-li-for-ni-a to make it at least five syllables. <span style="color:#FF0000;">“And that means that I’m like better. </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon w/Major W.G. Reginald III v. ‘New School’ Jason Jackson w/Larry Laffer</strong></p><p>

<em>Billy’s Take</em>: Jackson circled Deacon warily, his earlier bravado suddenly gone. In the early going, Deacon seemed every bit the former TWL champion, beating Jackson around the ring and forcing ‘New School’ to escape to the floor and seek solace from his manager, interrupting Laffer’s on-going commentary with fans at ringside. But as the match progressed, Jackson displayed an evolving understanding of his opponent, seemingly maturing right before our very eyes. Meanwhile, Deacon seemed to lose steam, his kicks not connecting quite as regularly and his punches lacking that certain pop. As Deacon faltered, Jackson seemed to grow stronger until it was he, and not Deacon, in complete control of the match. Out of nowhere, Deacon connected with a Deacon Driver, but Jackson miraculously kicked out at two. A stunned Deacon attempted a second Deacon Driver, but Jackson wriggled out and clamped on the California Dream. Deacon’s legs turned to jelly and he sunk to the mat, his shoulders slightly in the air. Jackson gritted his teeth and pushed down harder on Deacon’s forehead and his shoulders touched the mat. I slapped the mat once, twice, and finally a third time to award Jason Jackson the victory. The crowd sat in stunned silence as Major W.G. Reginald III came into the ring to revive his charge and Jackson celebrated like he’d won the lottery. </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Trailer Park Kid </strong>came out to the ring, nervously taking deep inhales from a lit cigarette, and grabbed the microphone.<span style="color:#FF0000;"> “Floyd, you said that bein’ an Outlaw is bein’ one for life. And Tucker, you said that either I had to live as an Outlaw or be killed by the Outlaws.”</span> The Kid took a long drag on the cigarette and then put it out with his boot. <span style="color:#FF0000;">“Ya’ know what, I think you’re both full of ****. Bein’ an Outlaw ain’t about trash talkin’ or threatenin’. Its about fightin’. </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Trailer Park Kid v. Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman</strong></p><p>

<em>Billy’s Take</em>: Bowman came at Trailer Park Kid like the Tasmanian Devil, a whirlwind of spittle, cuss words, and flailing fists. TPK survived the initial onslaught and fought back admirably, putting Floyd on the defensive. The match went back and forth, spilling outside the ring. On one such occasion, Trailer Park Kid lit up a cigarette and took a long puff, then ‘borrowed’ a beer from a fan at ringside and took a long swallow before returning the beer and giving the stunned fan the smoke. The crowd cheered and, for the first time in months, seemed genuinely behind the Kid. But in the end, Floyd’s experience won out as he hit a low blow on the Trailer Park Kid (which I didn’t see) and then the Salute ‘n Boot to pick up the tainted win. </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>A winded <strong>Trailer Park Kid </strong>lit another cigarette (his third in twenty minutes) and gathered himself before taking the microphone. <span style="color:#FF0000;">“Floyd, it ain’t over between us. So next show I want you and Tucker against me and the guy I won the tag belts with, Mean Mark Green!” </span><strong>Bowman</strong> simply flipped TPK the bird over his shoulder and walked to the back, yelling obscenities at the fans sitting around ringside. <strong>C-</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Johnny Boy Tucker </strong>came out to the ring, wearing a different pair of trunks. He called out his former mentor, <strong>Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan</strong>, who emerged almost instantly.<span style="color:#FF0000;"> “Mark, you piece of ****,” </span>Tucker began. <span style="color:#FF0000;">“All I’ve heard from you since you decided to retire is that you treated me like son. For all eternity, Johnny Boy Tucker would be known as Mark Krogan’s protégé. No matter what Johnny Boy Tucker would do, he’d always play second fiddle to the so-called Southern Legend. So today is the end of Johnny Boy Tucker.” </span>The crowd sat in stunned silence. Was Johnny Boy announcing his retirement as well? <span style="color:#FF0000;">“Today I step out of the shadow of Mark Krogan and emerge reborn. Johnny Boy Tucker is dead. I…am…Johnny…Lawless!” </span>The newly-christened Johnny Lawless slowly pulled the small, black facemask over his eyes, a cruel sneer forming at the corner of his lips. <span style="color:#FF0000;">“Giddyup mother****ers!” </span><strong>B+</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Billy’s Take</em>: The crowd was on the edges of their seats as the ring announcer introduced Johnny Lawless and then erupted when ‘Gorgeous’ George DeColt emerged, Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan standing in his corner. The match went back and forth, Lawless obviously growing frustrated at DeColt’s wrestling mastery and seemingly endless stamina. But Lawless used a couple of cheap tactics to gain the upperhand and began to work over DeColt’s neck, obviously setting him up for the Power Lariat. Out of nowhere DeColt connected with a DeColt 45 and pinned Lawless one, two…Lawless draped a foot desperately over the bottom rope to break up the pinfall attempt. Back and forth they went with several nearfalls as a back suplex netted Lawless a two count and a roll-up nearly gave DeColt the victory. Lawless rolled DeColt outside the ring and threw him into the ringpost, DeColt’s neck snapping back against the hard steel. Lawless threw DeColt into the ring and hit a Power Lariat. Lawless arrogantly pinned DeColt, but Gorgeous George kicked out at 2! A frustrated Lawless powerslammed DeColt and then climbed all the way to the top rope! As DeColt came to, Lawless leapt from the top and connected with an amazing top-rope Power Lariat, sending DeColt’s now-injured neck roughly to the canvas. Lawless covered as Krogan urged DeColt to kick out. 1…2…3. God Bless Texas! We have a new champion!</p><p>

I've been way more busy than I'd like to be lately but I have read the last show and Johnny Lawless is the perfect choice for the TWL Championship. I like how Krogan is still being included in the shows even if he's not wrestling.

This is a storybuilding show and also includes an event nearly eighteen months (in-game time) in the making - something I've been building to, if slowly, the entire span of the diary. It should be posted later today!

TWL Stampede

Irvine Hall (MidSouth)

May 1978

Attendance: 3,363

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/RedFalcon.jpg VS http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/ProfessorNero1977.jpg

Red Falcon v. Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: Nero came out first and, acting his usual devious self, began the match by throwing a chair in the ring. I hurriedly grabbed it and removed it, but in that time the cat-quick Nero had obviously attacked Red Falcon with his cane, although I frustratingly had no proof. After that inauspicious start, the match was rather one-sided with Red Falcon never able to gain momentum. Nero mercifully finished off the match with his Descent into Madness shaking sleeperhold after about eight minutes of absolute domination.

After the match, TimberWolf ran down to the ring and jumped Red Falcon. This immediately brought out the Crimson Serpent Cult, Cobra and Viper, who took off after Nero’s canine charge. TimberWolf escaped through the crowd and out the door leading into the streets. The Crimson Serpent Cult followed, hot on his heels, also leaving the arena.

Major W.G. Reginald III came out to the ring. “Sorry to say, but my best friend in the world, ‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon has left the Texas Wrestling League. I s’pose that the embarrassment of losing to a snot-nosed kid like Jason Jackson had somethin’ ta’ do with it, but I ain’t sure. Pat just ain’t been himself lately and I think he needed a break. But dontcha worry, because ol’ Major Reg still has a couple ‘o tricks up his sleeve. My newest clients are three of the most popular men in the great state of Texas. They are the Trailer Park Kid and Team Texas, Archie 'The Governor' Judge and the Lone Star Stampeder! The crowd voiced its approval as the three fan favorites emerged, each shaking hands with Major Reginald. TWL Tag Team Title Match: Team Texas (Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge/The Lone Star Stampeder) w/Major W.G. Reginald III v. The Border Runners (Carlos Reyes/Luis Reyes)

Billy’s Take: With Major Reginald in their corner, Team Texas seemed stronger and, if possible, even more cohesive. They took it to the tag team champs in this one, unlike their last encounter which the Reyes’ controlled. This meant that Carlos and Luis faced the unusual situation of being on the defensive against their long-time rivals. While Luis seemed to take his game to the next level, Carlos grew increasingly frustrated. In the end, Carlos rolled up Archie from behind and I counted the three. Unfortunately, I later learned that Carlos had a handful of tights, resorting to cheating to defeat Team Texas. After the match, Luis argued with his brother, apparently about his cheating, as the brothers took their titles backstage with them.

‘New School’ Jason Jackson came out to the ring, flanked by Double Disaster and Larry Laffer. “Oh…my…God…” Jackson began. “Its like Christmas in May. Not only do I, Jason Jackson, the Sacramento Sensation, the Burbank Badboy, and the Hollwood Heartthrob, send old man Krogan packing, but I also make Imperfect Pat Deacon leave TWL with his tail between his legs! I mean, I know I dominated him last time, but I never thought he’d just leave. Wow. What a night for me. What a night for California,” again, Jackson over-enunciated the name of his home state, “what a night to be California...Dreamin’!” C-

The Executioner v. ‘New School’ Jason Jackson

Billy’s Take: The Executioner had no real chance against the surging Jason Jackson, who put down another, erm, Texas icon with relative ease. Once again, Jackson celebrated childishly after winning, apparently trying to embarrass the Executioner after pinning him so easily with the California Dream.

Jackson d. The Executioner via California Dream

‘Gorgeous’ George DeColt v. Machete

Billy’s Take: Machete is an accomplished brawler and no holds barred fighter. But in a straight wrestling match against the ultra-talented DeColt, he had no chance. After about ten minutes of solid back-and-forth, DeColt hit Machete with the DeColt 45 to pick up the win.

After the match, Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan joined ‘Gorgeous’ George DeColt in the ring. “I thought I’d seen it all,” Krogan began, a small stream of tobacco juice running out of the corner of his mouth. “But I never thought I’d see Johnny Boy Tucker turn his back on the fans, on his family, and on me. It was a sad day. A really sad day. But today is a new day, the dawn of a new era. Now I can’t wrestle anymore, but this man can. And George DeColt is gonna do everything in his power to bring you down Johnny. Everything in his power.” DeColt simply nodded in agreement and shook hands with the Southern Legend before the duo left to return backstage. B

Mean Mark Green/Trailer Park Kid v. Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman/Johnny Lawless

Billy’s Take: Bowman and Lawless came out first, Lawless with the TWL Title draped languidly over his shoulder. Bowman walked to the ring like a man possessed, screaming obscenities at fans seated near the guardrail separating spectators from wrestlers. When Green and Trailer Park Kid emerged, the crowd erupted, obviously growing more and more enamored of the junior member of the Outlaws each time out. Green glared at Bowman and Lawless while the Kid flicked his lit-cigarette onto the cement floor, putting it out with his boot, preparing for battle. TPK started it off against Bowman and, as was the case in their last singles encounter, Bowman got the early upper-hand. But this time, the Trailer Park Kid fought back, forcing Bowman to retreat into his corner, where he tagged in the TWL champion, Johnny Lawless. Lawless stood stock-still for a moment, seemingly soaking in the boos of the crowd. He then went after the Trailer Park Kid, but had an equally-difficult time keeping the Kid down. A series of quick tags back and forth between Bowman and Lawless isolated the Trailer Park Kid in their corner, effectively cutting the ring in half. Finally, after essentially being double-teamed for five or six minutes, the Trailer Park Kid broke loose, kicking Lawless in the stomach and connecting with a wicked roundhouse punch to the jaw of Bowman. He lunged to the corner and found…no one. Mean Mark Green had dropped to the floor, leaving the Trailer Park Kid high and dry. From that point, Trailer Park Kid, a shocked expression etched on his face, was easy pickings as Bowman and Lawless connected with the trademarked finished of the Texas Outlaws, the Nowhere to Run, to pick up the somewhat tainted victory.

Bowman/Lawless d. Green/Trailer Park Kid via Nowhere to Run

Chief Two Eagles v. The Night Rider

Billy’s Take: The Night Rider, despite his rather deplorable won-loss record here in TWL, is always a tough opponent. In fact, he controlled the first two-thirds of this match, using both his overwhelming power and developing technical skills to keep Chief Two Eagles grounded. But the War Chief of the Comanche Nation had too much in reserve and, after slipping out of a headlock, downed The Night Rider with a tremendous bodyslam. Chief then climbed to the second rope and connected with a high-impact Tomahawk Chop to pick up the victory.

Suddenly, Professor Nero appeared on the entrance ramp, seemingly alone. Perched on his head was the ceremonial head-dress given to Chief Two Eagles at Year End Spectacular by tribal leaders of the Comanche Indians. Chief Two Eagles audibly gasped at the sight. Professor Nero broke out in a spontaneous war dance, his high-pitched cackle resonating around the walls of Irvine Hall. An infuriated Chief Two Eagles stormed down the ramp, entirely focused on the disrespectful Nero. From the shadows, Warlord Agony and Warlord Pain jumped the unsuspecting Chief, driving their boots into his head and neck. They continued their beating unabated for several minutes, as the crowd whipped into a frenzy, screaming for help, which never arrived. Professor Nero slowly dragged his fallen opponent to the announcer’s table as the crowd grew even more desperate. Nero methodically pulled Chief to the top of the table and doubled Two Eagles over. Nero lifted him in the air, setting him up for a piledriver. Nero dropped down, driving Chief Two Eagles’ head through the table, causing the entire structure to collapse. The crowd gasped in horror at the carnage caused by Professor Nero and his Lords of War. Chief Two Eagles lay, unmoving, on the concrete floor in a pool of blood and splintered table. The crowd surged toward the nefarious Professor. Several men, and at least one woman, threatened Nero with bodily harm. One tough-looking cowboy even pulled a knife from his boot and brandished it at Nero, who stared back, unblinking. Finally members of the building’s security forces stormed the ring and forced the crowd back, escorting Professor Nero and the Lords of War directly out of the building as medics checked on the Chief. Eagles goes down hard!

Nice show. And Im pleased nero is getting his push. Finally!

Yep, that is the big event that I've been waiting so long to write. It is taken almost directly from an event discussed in Nero's profile on the official Cornellverse site, so I had to include it. And yes, Nero is finally getting his push. Maybe. :D

It was worth the wait. Should be a good feud.

Its a shame future SWF star Mr R. Richardson isnt around now.

You could run a program where Nero pleasures himself every time he launches an arson attack.

Everyone knows Nero fiddles while Remo burns

It's the CVerse, I'd have retconned history a bit...

One of the Remus boys would fit in there instead of Richardson rather nicely.

Nero fiddles while Remus burns.

(Or Nero fiddles while Remus burns baby burn... Disco Inferno!) That would get some fantastic heat deep in the heart of Texas.

Great finishing segment ajcrible, although in Texas I think Nero would have to worry about more than an unsheathed knife! I thought you were going to do it Funk-Flair and NOT have the table break. Just a dead Couple of Eagles twitching atop the ringside table.

I know it's just a created Verse but can you imagine how Agony and Pain would feel, "Hello teenaged boys, we're going to do something that will likely get you killed if you ever leave the arena in your wresting gear and facepaint. Ready to invoke your legend and ruin your lives?"

I should've thought about Funk-Flair before I wrote that...would've been perfect! To me this event reminded me of some of the classic early-80s NWA feuds (Tommy Rich/Buzz Sawyer in particular), so that's where my head was at when writing.

Yeah, its hard sometimes to remember that the Lords of War are only teenagers in '78 and, because of this event, would've become big-time badguys almost overnight. They are still salvagable as faces. I can think of no situation in which Nero could be a face.
