That kind of leaves his stable dead in the water it will be interesting to see if the Night Rider does anything of any significance with his boss gone.

After finally coming to terms with the fact that Wildfire's NWA: Beyond the Glory is probably dead in the water, this has become my new favorite dynasty. Job very well done, aj!

Wow, high praise indeed. Beyond the Glory was one of the first diaries I really got into when I started playing TEW. I loved the Matt Wiese character and the drama behind unmasking Mr. Wrestling.

The new TWL Champion, Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan walked out to the ring, the gold title belt shining brightly around his waist. “This should be the happiest day of my life, to come out here the TWL champion,” Krogan began in his gravelly baritone. “But it ain’t. Because somethin’s been botherin’ me about my best friend, Johnny Boy Tucker. Come on out here Johnny Boy.” A tentative Johnny Boy Tucker emerged from the back. “Johnny Boy,” Krogan continued, “ever since I left town, you’ve been doin’ some things I don’t like, showin’ an attitude I ain’t fond of. Mostly, I think you’re spendin’ too much time with the Texas Outlaws. ‘Specially Floyd Bowman. He ain’t a good influence Johnny, he…” Tucker cut him off. “Mark, your friendship means everything to me. It really does. But when you…left…Floyd looked out for me. We’re friends, Floyd and me. Doesn’t mean you and I can’t still be friends.” “Ok, Johnny, fair enough. How ‘bout this. I’m s’posed to be in a tag match tonight against the Night Rider and Luis Reyes and I getta choose my partner. Only one man I can think of to watch my back and that’s you. Whaddya say, Johnny?” Before Tucker could reply, Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman came out from the back. He took the microphone. “Why the **** would Johnny tag up with you? You ****in’ abandoned him to ****in’ play dress up in your little ****in’ yellow mask!” “Not by choice,” Krogan growled. “Don’t ****in’ matter,” Bowman continued. “Johnny’s gotta ****in’ grow some ****in’ balls sometime. And him and me have a ****in’ title match tonight against mother****in’ Don Juan and Carlos Reyes. So he’s gonna hafta ****in’ choose. What’ll it be Johnny? Me or the old mother****er who forgot about you?” “Floyd, that ain’t fair. And I ain’t gonna choose. Or, to put it clearer, I choose both of y’all. Floyd, me and you’ll whoop the Reyes’ and then Mark and I’ll take out Night Rider and Luis. And that’s how its gonna be,” Johnny threw down the microphone in disgust and walked away as Floyd and Mark glared at one another across the ring. C+

TWL Tag Team Title Match: ‘American Made’ Johnny Boy Tucker/Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman v. Don Juan/Carlos Reyes w/Shannon

Billy’s Take: There was a little tension between Tucker and Bowman to start this match, but that was soon replaced by intense hatred of their opponents. Don Juan seemed less interested in winning the match than flaunting his new relationship with Shannon and, much to the chagrin of his partner and Johnny Boy Tucker, dropped to the floor several times to get kisses from his lady love. During one such exchange, Tucker flattened Carlos Reyes with a Power Lariat and made the pinfall before Don Juan could return to the ring.

Apparently unsatisfied with losing the match, Don Juan and Carlos Reyes jumped Johnny Boy Tucker and Floyd Bowman. Luis Reyes quickly ran out to assist his brothers and the trio delivered a brutal three-on-two beatdown, leaving Bowman and Tucker lying in the ring. As the Reyes’ cleared out, Mark 'The Lariat' Krogan came down to check on Tucker, totally ignoring Floyd lying a few feet away. C-

As Mark 'The Lariat' Krogan helped Johnny Boy to the back, a newcomer came out to the ring and took hold of a microphone. “Just a sec there pops,” he began, “oh Krogan, you know who I am, don’t you? That’s right, your old pal Jason Jackson,” he said, flipping the hair out of his eyes. “See Grandpa Krogan and I have had, let’s call them disagreements, in California, which is like the greatest state in the entire nation,” he added, drawing boos from the fans at ringside. “And all Krogan can talk about is like how great Texas is. How big the cows grow here. How big the redneck’s hats are. How tough Texans are. And do you know what? He’s totally full of crap. I was like ‘California is so much better,’ and he was like ‘No it ain’t, Texas is better.’ And I was like…well, let’s just say we don’t get on all that well. So Krogan, I’m here to prove that Texas isn’t even in the same league as my state and that soon all of you’ll be screamin’ ‘bout California Dreamin’!” D

Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge v. ‘New School’ Jason Jackson

Billy’s Take: Archie Judge came out to stand up for his home state of Texas and, after the bell of course because Archie plays by the rules, attacked Jackson with great gusto. But Jackson played the chicken**** heel to perfection, frequently sliding to the floor to get a breather and escape the onslaught. In the end, Archie’s enthusiasm cost him as he went for the Martial Law, but Jackson spun him around and locked on the Eagle Claw, which he has dubbed the California Nightmare.

The Lone Star Stampeder v. Blackheart Jones

Billy’s Take: Another newcomer came out to the ring to face the other half of Team Texas. This matchup was, surprisingly, more one-sided than the Jackson/Judge match as Stampy got in very little offense against Blackheart Jones who ended it after setting up Stampy for a piledriver, giving the Texas Outlaw handsign, and then planting Stampy into the mat. The pinfall was academic. 1…2…3.

Crimson Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper)/Prophet v. TimberWolf/Lords of War (Warlord Agony/Warlord Pain) w/Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: This was a tremendous back-and-forth bout, highlighted by the awe-inspiring power of the Lords of War and the experienced guile of the Crimson Serpent Cult. This relegated TimberWolf and Prophet to supporting roles, which they played well. In the end, the Crimson Serpent Cult looked to have the match won after Cobra hit a Solid Snake Stunner, but Professor Nero jumped up on the ring apron and smashed Prophet across the skull with his trusty cane, splintering the cane and knocking Prophet out completely. I immediately called for the bell as Nero and his Disciples of Evilness continued their assault.

No Holds Barred: ‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon w/Major W.G. Reginald III v. Machete w/Rampage

Billy’s Take: Machete is nearly the equal of Rampage in No Holds Barred matches and held his own against Perfect Pat, sporting cowboy boots and blue jeans, in the early stages of this one. But Machete’s mania caused him to overextend and make a mistake. As usual, Perfect Pat capitalized and connected with the Deacon Driver after an exciting hard-fought match.

Master & Apprentice (Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan/‘American Made’ Johnny Boy Tucker v. The Night Rider/Luis Reyes

Billy’s Take: Johnny Boy Tucker struggled to the ring, gingerly holding his ribs as the TWL champion, Mark Krogan, walked by his side. When the heel team of Night Rider and Luis Reyes came out, the crowd voiced their disapproval. This was an excellent match from these four men and Luis Reyes continues to inspire confidence that he could run with the ball, if given the opportunity. But the more experienced tandem of Master & Apprentice prevailed as Johnny Boy Tucker nearly beheaded Night Rider with a vicious Power Lariat just as Luis Reyes planted Mark Krogan with a massive Jumping Piledriver. Tucker clearly went for the pinfall first and I counted three just as Luis Reyes pinned Krogan’s shoulders to the mat.

I loved the Crossover and the bolded part saddens me. If you're not going to give me some "Danger" Will in Texas then I need SOME plucky underdog who defies all logic by winning.

 

Seriously though great show and I really like the "fresh" start and I think I see maybe a Floyd vs. Krogan deal down the road. I really like it when stories intersect such as Floyd/Krogan while he's also dealing with Jason Jackson, etc. all in all great show and looking forward to 1978!

Jason Jackson?

 

'New School' Jason Jackson is the son of 'Old School' Edmond Jackson, a well-known and well-liked veteran who has seemingly wrestled in every American territory. Like his father, Jason is a positive backstage influence and a talented technician. Unlike his father, he's eschewed rest holds for a more modern approach, including moves like dropkicks and sunset flips alongside armbars and hip tosses. Jason's stint in TWL is his first outside the American Southwest, where he got his start in CPW. Jason has never won a title, though he and his father are legitimate contenders to the tag team belts in CPW. Perhaps he'll get his first taste of gold here in Texas. Though not if Mark Krogan has anything to say about it...

There is bad blood brewing between Chief Two Eagles and Professor Nero. Its not a matter of if Nero will interject himself in the match, but rather how his presence will influence the outcome of the bout.

The young team of powerful Samoans has yet to achieve victory in TWL. Is this their time or will Team Texas ride out as winners yet again?

Chief Two Eagles v. TimberWolf w/Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: Chief Two Eagles came to the ring resplendent in his new war bonnet. When TimberWolf and Nero came to the ring, the Professor leading his canine protégé by the ear and carrying his ever-present bag of trinkets, Nero eyed the bonnet greedily, forcing the Chief to pass the headdress to Kurt Berkely at ringside. Inside the ring, this was a rather one-sided bout, with Chief Two Eagles controlling the pace and the match. TimberWolf did get in some offense, but not enough to derail the Chief. Two Eagles went over after connecting with a Tomahawk Chop from the second rope.

As Chief Two Eagles leapt off the second rope for his patented finishing maneuver, Professor Nero made a mad dash for the headdress sitting ringside. Kurt Berkely was stunned by the suddenness of the movement and Nero was able to grasp a single feather from the bonnet before Berkely could pull the rest away. Nero laughed maniacally as Chief Two Eagles slid out of the ring to face the sadistic Professor. Nero smashed Chief across the back with his cane and a groggy TimberWolf slid outside to assist in the attack. Then the cavalry arrived, as Prophet, Cobra, and Viper emerged from the back. They were met, however, by the Lords of War (Agony and Pain) and the eight men quickly set upon one another, leading to an all-out brawl that required security to break up the melee. Somehow in the confusion Nero escaped, gleefully clutching the pilfered eagle feather. B-

Team Texas (Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge/The Lone Star Stampeder) v. Double Disaster (Eruption/Tsunami)

Billy’s Take: There is a really good reason why wrestling insiders continuously point to Eruption and Tsunami as potential breakout stars. Their awe-inspiring power overwhelmed the smaller Team Texas and the Samoan duo looked primed for a relatively easy victory. But Stampy and Archie are resourceful and began countering the power of their opponents with drop toe-holds and other countermoves to stall and frustrate their physically dominant opponents. In the end, the brutality of Double Disaster cost them the match as they refused to break chokeholds at the mandatory five count, forcing me to call for the bell and disqualify them.

Double Disaster continued their destructive rampage, incessantly pounding on the now-limp bodies of Archie Judge and The Lone Star Stampeder. Then suddenly, from the backstage area, a now-familiar voice called out. “Nice work fellas, you like totally destroyed them.” It was Jason Jackson. “Texas isn’t too tough now, is it?” Jackson arrogantly strode over to Archie Judge and kicked him square in the ribs and then put a foot on top of Stampy posing as if he, and not Double Disaster, was responsible for the carnage. “Now ladies let me hear your yellin’, let me hear your squealin’, let me hear your screamin’… for me, Jason Jackson, and my California dreamin’!” C-

‘American Made’ Johnny Boy Tucker v. Don Juan Reyes w/Shannon

Billy’s Take: Tucker continued to showcase his new-found mean streak, remaining constantly on the offensive against the smaller Don Juan Reyes. Shannon tried repeatedly to distract Tucker from the outside, but her advances seemed to spur Johnny Boy on, rather than divert him from destroying Don Juan Reyes. The onslaught forced Reyes to repeatedly escape to the floor. But it was Tucker’s bull-headedness that cost him in the end as he impatiently chased Don Juan and attacked the Latin Lothario outside the ring. The two continued brawling and I had to count both men out.

After Don Juan Reyes and Shannon finally escaped to the back, leaving Johnny Boy Tucker alone in the center of the ring, Mean Mark Green and Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman came out from the back. “Hell of a fight there Johnny Boy,” Mean Mark began in his deep, cool baritone. “You’re really showin’ some toughness and some heart. I’m proud of you kid.” Bowman took the mic. “What Mean Mark is tryin’ to ****in’ say, but just won’t ****in’ spit out is that we think you have the ***** to be a ***-damned Texas ****in’ Outlaw. Whaddya ****in’ say Johnny? Will you ****in’ join the most bad*** group of hard*** mother****ers that ever ****in’ lived? Will you be an Outlaw?” Johnny Boy seemed stunned. “Floyd, that’s one hell of an honor and really I’m speechless. I never thought you’d…, I mean I never even dreamed that…” suddenly his jaw dropped. “But what about the Lariat? He’s been a sworn enemy of the Outlaws for years. He won’t like this at all! I’ve gotta think about it fellas. It’s an amazing honor, but I just have to talk to Krogan first. Ok?” Green and Bowman briefly conferred. “You’ve got one month,” Green drawled, “the invitation ends at Cold as the Grave.” As Green and Bowman left the arena, they passed Blackheart Jones. Jones stared at them long and hard, but they ignored him even as he slowly raised the handsign of the Texas Outlaws. C+

Billy’s Take: Blackheart Jones dominated his masked opponent, taking him down with a devastating-looking piledriver (done right after he raised his hand in the ‘hook ‘em horns’ sign of the Texas Outlaws) after about eight minutes.

No Holds Barred: ‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon w/Major W.G. Reginald III v. Rampage w/Machete

Billy’s Take: Just as Machete had done last show, Rampage held his own against Deacon, taking full advantage of his specialty match. This time, however, Deacon basically had to fight off both Rampage AND Machete as the latter repeatedly interjected himself despite my admonishment. In mid-match, Major Reginald III hurriedly went backstage and returned just a few moments later with the Trailer Park Kid, cigarette dangling precariously from his lips. The presence of the Kid neutralized the two-on-one advantage, allowing Deacon to focus on Rampage. Shortly thereafter, Deacon connected with the Deacon Driver for the three count. After the match, Deacon and the Trailer Park Kid shook hands.

TWL Title Match: Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan v. Luis Reyes

Billy’s Take: Luis Reyes came out first and is getting a much stronger reaction than he did even six months ago. Apparently his association with the Border Runners is paying dividends. Krogan came out next, looking focused in his first ever TWL Title defense. Krogan dominated early in the match, seeking to put Reyes away before the Mexican superstar could take advantage of his incredible stamina and athleticism. It was a good tactic because, at about the fifteen minute mark, Reyes’ conditioning took over and he gained the upper-hand. For the next five or six minutes he was in complete control. But the veteran wiles of the champion shone through as he nearly decapitated Reyes with a Power Lariat just moments after it seemed he would fall in his first defense.

As a bone-tired Mark 'The Lariat' Krogan pulled himself out of the ring, Jason Jackson, now accompanied by the giant Samoan team of Double Disaster, ran in from backstage and attacked the Lariat. Krogan swatted Eruption away like he was a light-heavyweight, but together the Samoan duo managed to force Krogan to the ground. As they held him down, Jason Jackson swaggered over, having avoided the initial assault. “First Team Texas and now the like Southern Legend. Quite a night for us, don’t you think? By my count that’s Texas zero, Cali two. And yet again, California proves its superiority to Texas.” As Double Disaster released the champion, Jackson beat a hasty retreat. Johnny Boy Tucker ran down to the ring past Jackson and, together with Krogan, cleared the ring by delivering Power Lariats on Double Disaster as the show came to a close, Master and Apprentice standing back-to-back in the center of the squared circle. C
