Flip on an imaginary coin for this one...

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 2: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Z-Man

Bam Bam rules. One day he will hold every title belt. Ever.

The Great Muta vs. Steve Austin

Tough one, but Muta got the upset so I'm tipping him for victory.

Terry Funk vs. Steve Williams

Williams just lost to Hall, albeit on a B show, but I can't see him beating Funk here after that.

Non Title: Lex Luger vs. Ric Flair

Woooooooo!

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 2: Norman The Lunatic vs. Ole Anderson

Ole isn't dropping this one.

Mike Rotundo vs. Steve Austin

A good match to debut him in.

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 2: Cactus Jack vs. Barry Windham

I'm actually gonna go out on a limb and say that if this is right, then Jack is the next TV champ.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING

Saturday Week 4 September 1989

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 2: Mike Rotundo vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert

As much as I think this tournament is tailor made for Rotundo, I still think a match between Gilbert and Cactus is in the cards for it.

NWA World Television Title Tournament, Round 2: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Z-Man

My gut instinct is actually calling for Zenk to move on here, but I just can't shake Bigelow's chances here.

The Great Muta vs. Steve Austin

There will be great things in store for Austin yet... but not just yet.

Terry Funk vs. Steve Williams

Funker has too much going for him right now to drop a match to Williams..

Non Title: Lex Luger vs. Ric Flair

Sorry Lexy, it just ain't happening here.

[Highlights from last week on World Championship Wrestling are shown, including]

  • Sting and Ole Anderson shook hands to start off the show. Perhaps they've put their problems in the past?
  • Norman The Lunatic defeated Ranger Ross to advance in the NWA World Television title tournament.
  • Flyin' Brian and the Z-Man defeated The Samoan Swat Team and were named #1 contenders to the NWA World Tag Team titles.
  • The Fabulous Freebirds attacked Brian and Z-Man following the end of the match.
  • Ricky Steamboat successfully defended the United States title against the former champion Lex Luger.
  • Terry Funk, The Great Muta and The Dragonmaster defeated Ric Flair, Sting and Ole Anderson when The Great Muta pinned Sting.
  • Following the match, Ole Anderson showed how upset he was by slapping Sting. Ric Flair stepped in between the two as the show came to a close.

[We are here within the Rodeo Arena in Gladewater, Texas and ready for the last World Championship Wrestling event of the month! The crowd looks ready but they boo immediately when certain music begins to play. Attention turns to the top of the entrance where Lex Luger appears from out of the curtain. Lex flexes his muscles to boos from the crowd before he continues down the aisle. A few people reach out to try and touch Lex but he shoves them back. He walks around and is handed a microphone before he enters the ring. He looks around with an arrogant sneer to his face.]

Lex Luger

"First of all, you people need to shut your mouths if you want to hear what I have to say."

[The boos grow even louder! Luger looks a little agitated at the boos but his arrogance never falters.]

Lex Luger

"Last week was an aberration. A blot. A mistake that will forever last on the record books. Ricky Steamboat, you pinned my shoulders to the mat for the three count but anyone can have a lucky night. Anyone can have two lucky nights. But your luck is going to run out. Just like the luck of one other man has run out. Ric Flair, you have been signed to face me in the center of the ring so these fans in Gladewater can see just what a real man is supposed to look like. They're already getting a good view right now."

[Lex flexes his muscles and people boo though some women swoon at the muscular man known as the Total Package.]

Lex Luger

"Tonight, Ric Flair, you have a date with destiny. You have a date with a Human Torture Rack. Tonight, Ric Flair, I am going to prove that I deserve the NWA World Heavyweight title."

[More boos fill the arena as Lex flexes in the ring some more. He tosses out the microphone and follows it shortly thereafter. It's time for our first match here on World Championship Wrestling.]

NWA World Television Title Tournament

Round 2

Mike Rotundo vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert

[No one could really dispute that Mike Rotundo is the better technical wrestler here. Rotundo, a member of the Varsity Club, kept Gilbert off-balance with a variety of technical holds in this first match of the evening. Gilbert got frustrated and proved that he is the better brawler, however. Rotundo made a comeback and went after Missy Hyatt outside the ring. This proved to be his undoing as when he came back into the ring he was nailed with the Hot Shot by Gilbert and Hot Stuff made the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert (Via Pinfall @ 6:52)

Match Rating: C

[We head backstage where they were setting up an interview with the Road Warriors. Instead, what got on tape was a brawl between the Road Warriors and the Skyscrapers backstage! Sid Vicious exchanged punches with Animal while Dan Spivey and Hawk brawled as well! The fun police had to step in between these two large teams ans get them seperated but that won't happen at NWA Halloween Havoc!]

[We head backstage once again. This time, it's a stop by the catering table where Ric Flair and Sting are shown approaching one another. They shake hands and turn toward the food.]

Sting

"Look, Ric, I know he's your friend and everything but Ole slapping me last week? He was way out of line."

Ric Flair

"I know, Stinger. I know. He and I had a long talk about this. He understands that you're my friend. I am just trying not to get caught in the middle of this."

[sting nods and they continue to look at the food as we head back to the ring.]

NWA World Television Title Tournament

Round 2

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Z-Man

[Our second second round matchup with the winner moving on to face Eddie Gilbert in next week's match. Z-Man did his best to keep Bam Bam Bigelow from grabbing him as he used a bit of a speed advantage. He went for his Super Kick early on but Bigelow managed to block it and suplex Z-Man out of his boots! Bigelow gave an evil sneer as he dropped an elbow and made a cover: 1 -- 2 -- Shoulder Up! The crowd gave a collective sigh of relief. Z-Man reversed a rear chinlock into a jawbreaker and went into his comeback against Bigelow until two men arrived on the scene.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/MichaelHayes7.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/jimmygarvin2.jpg

[The Fabulous Freebirds stepped out and distracted Z-Man with their belts. This led to Bigelow gaining the advantage and dropping Z-Man with a Greetings From Asbury Park and then a Top Rope Headbutt! Bigelow made the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Bam Bam Bigelow (Via Pinfall @ 7:20)

Match Rating: B-

[A video is shown covering the Ric Flair/Terry Funk and Horsemen/J-Tex Corporation feud which began earlier this year. This is all leading toward a main event at Halloween Havoc where Ric Flair puts the NWA World Heavyweight title on the line against Terry Funk in an 'I Quit' Match!]

Match #3

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/greatmuta.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/garyhart.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/steveaustin89.jpg

The Great Muta vs. Steve Austin

[This was a major opportunity for an unknown talent like Steve Austin to break into the ranks here on World Championship Wrestling. Unfortunately, he was facing off with the Pearl of the Orient. A man who just last week pinned Sting's shoulders to the mat. This one was dominated by The Great Muta much to the happy smiles of Gary Hart at ringside. Muta used a combination of kicks and martial arts throws to keep Austin down. He took Austin down with a body slam and then headed to the top rope -- Moonsault Press! Muta turned it into a pinfall: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: The Great Muta (Via Pinfall @ 6:56)

Match Rating: B+

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/sting4.jpg

[Following the sounding of the bell, the man called Sting entered the ring and went right after The Great Muta! Sting rose his hand and blocked a Mist shot and then sent Muta into the corner -- Stinger Splash! Muta took a step and then fell to the mat. Gary Hart reached in quickly and yanked Muta out of the ring to safety. Sting looked on from inside the ring and it's obvious he wants his revenge. He will get his chance in a few weeks at Halloween Havoc as these two men go one on one!]

Match #4

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/terryfunk2.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/garyhart.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/SteveWilliams2.jpg

Terry Funk vs. Steve Williams

[This matchup has been dubbed a red river rivalry match as the Texan Terry Funk takes on the man from Oklahoma Steve 'Dr. Death' Williams. Funk was actually the fan favorite in this match no matter what he did. He raked the back of Williams and the fans cheered. He poked Williams in the eye and the fans seemed to want him to do the same to the other eye! Funk mostly wrestled his style of match in this one, keeping the former Collegiate athlete on his toes. Funk dropped Williams with a double underhook facebuster and made a cover: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout!]

[Williams made a short comeback during the match following a Sleeper attempt by Funk. Dr. Death kicked Funk in the gut and then raised him up for the Oklahoma Stampede. He ran him toward one corner and Funk slipped out the back! Williams hit the corner chest-first! Williams turned and Funk booted him in the gut -- Texas Piledriver! Funk made the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Terry Funk (Via Pinfall @ 10:54)

Match Rating: B

Match #5

Non Title

Lex Luger vs. Ric Flair

[it's main event time here on World Championship Wrestling and what a main event we have this evening. Two of the top flight wrestlers here in the NWA: The Total Package Lex Luger and The Nature Boy Ric Flair in a match to determine their supremacy. The two men made their way down to the ring and once inside they had a staredown in the center of the ring. Luger flexed his muscles to boos from the crowd. Ric gave him a smile and a strut across the ring, which drew cheers from the crowd. Luger came over quickly and pushed Flair back in the corner, peppering him with some rights and lefts! Flair fired back with hard chops to the chest! Luger staggered backward and Flair took him down with a clothesline! Luger exited the ring quickly and paced around the ring. He walked over to where the NWA World Heavyweight title belt is being held and picked it up. He stared at it for the span of a few seconds before setting it back down and entering the ring again, staring at Ric Flair. Obviously, Luger wants the belt.]

[The next few minutes were spent with Luger taking control and using his power against Ric Flair. Luger took down Flair with a big clothesline and a backbreaker. Luger took down Flair with an inverted atomic drop and then a hip toss to the mat. Within a few minutes, Luger sent Flair to the ropes -- Power Slam! Luger made the cover: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout! Luger rose to his feet and flexed, making the signal for the Human Torture Rack! Luger grabbed Flair by the hair and lifted him up for the Rack -- Flair turned his body and rolled Luger up in a sunset flip: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout! Flair got up first and grabbed the legs of Luger, starting in on the legs with kicks and a knee wrench. Luger would not give up, though. Flair got to his feet and took down Luger with a body slam. He released a 'Whoooooo' and then bounced off the ropes -- Knee Drop! Flair made the cover:]

[...1...

...2...

...Kickout!]

[Flair rose to his feet following the kickout and pulled Luger up in the corner. He began chopping the granite-like chest of the Total Package to cheers from the crowd! Flair whipped Luger across -- reversed! Flair flips up and over the turnbuckles and lands on the apron. He runs along the apron and Luger clotheslines him down! Luger pulls Flair into the ring and sends him to the ropes, obviously favoring his right knee -- Scoop Power Slam! Luger hesitates, grabbing his knee. He crawls over and makes the cover:]

[...1...

...2...

...Kickout!]

[Luger gets up and argues with the referee. The distraction allows Flair to clip Luger in the knee from behind! He drags Luger by the knee over to the ropes. He lays the leg across the ropes and then jumps and lands on the knee! Flair moves Luger to the center of the ring and releases a 'Whoooooo' and then locks on the Figure 4 Leglock! The crowd goes absolutely wild! Luger shakes his head when asked by the referee! He doesn't want to give it up. Flair sits up some, putting more pressure on the legs of Luger. Luger leans over, trying to reverse the Figure 4. Flair shakes his head. Flair puts on more pressure and Luger with those powerful legs gets the Figure 4 turned over but Flair turns it back over! Flair holds onto the Figure 4! Luger gives it up! Luger has had enough!]

Winner: Ric Flair (Via Submission @ 17:45)

Match Rating: A

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/terryfunk2.jpg

[Terry Funk enters the ring following the sounding of the bell. He has a branding iron, which he brings down on the forehead of Ric Flair! The crowd gives Funk a mixed reaction here in Texas. Funk drops the branding iron and picks up Ric Flair -- Texas Piledriver! Funk hit the Texas Piledriver on Ric Flair! He goes for the Funk Spinning Toe Hold but someone is coming from the back.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/sting4.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/oleanderson.jpg

[Actually it's two people! Sting and Ole Anderson hit the ring and Terry Funk escapes! Ole checks on Flair as Sting moves to hold off Terry Funk. It's a staredown between Sting and Terry Funk as the show comes to a close.]

Dick Murdoch vs. Jason Knight

Jason Knight: Jobber extraordinaire.

The Iron Sheik vs. Ranger Ross

Ranger Ross: Jobber more extraordinaire?

The Varsity Club vs. The Steiner Brothers

A fantastic looking match-up. Should be a great mat-based affair. Steiners have a lot more to offer, going forward.

NWA World Television Title Tournament, SEMIFINALS: Cactus Jack vs. Ole Anderson

Ole's had a fun little run in this tournament, but it's time for reality to kick in. This is 1989, and Ole isn't winning any belts.

NWA World Television Title Tournament, SEMIFINALS: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert

Not only does this maintain the face/heel dynamic for the finals, but this tournament has just been a grandios way to build a Cactus Jacd vs. Eddie Gilbert return match. This is going to be fun.

The Dragonmaster and The Iron Sheik vs. The Rock 'N' Roll Express

Well, this explains the Iron Sheik squash on the Power Hour. R&R get a nice showcase debut. I'm not liking their chances of being a top team, though.

NWA United States Title Match: Ricky Steamboat defends vs. Dick Murdoch

Similar to the match before, the squash on Power Hour gives Murdoch some momentum to job to Steamboat. With the Luger program finished up, I'm interested as to who will step up to the Dragon next.

Terry Funk vs. Sting

VERY tough match to call. I'm going with Funk taking a dirty win, as he's got the big World Title match at Halloween Havoc. This could definitely go the other way, though.

Squash

The Iron Sheik vs. Ranger Ross

squash nymber 2

The Varsity Club vs. The Steiner Brothers

Again my lack of knowledge (no idea who Varsity Club guys are, Rotundo and someone maybe?) forces me to choose the team that I actually know, though I probably would have picked Steiners anyway.

NWA World Television Title Tournament, SEMIFINALS: Cactus Jack vs. Ole Anderson

No way Ole wins this one

NWA World Television Title Tournament, SEMIFINALS: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert

Sorry Bam Bam but we need a face in finals.

The Dragonmaster and The Iron Sheik vs. The Rock 'N' Roll Express

Named team over random pairing

NWA United States Title Match: Ricky Steamboat defends vs. Dick Murdoch

Ricky just got the belt so he isn´t dropping it yet

Terry Funk vs. Sting

I could see a draw here but Funk is challenger for Flair´s title so he need to go over Flair´s friend.

I think everyone's voting the exact same way save for the WCW main event...

NWA WORLDWIDE*

Saturday Week 1 October 1989

Dick Murdoch vs. Jason Knight

The Iron Sheik vs. Ranger Ross

The Varsity Club vs. The Steiner Brothers

This should be a very good match though, I'm gonna guess it'll rate at least a B-.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING

Saturday Week 1 October 1989

NWA World Television Title Tournament, SEMIFINALS: Cactus Jack vs. Ole Anderson

Like I said, if Jack beat Windham, then he's our next TV champ.

NWA World Television Title Tournament, SEMIFINALS: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert

And here's our de facto face for Cactus to kill in the finals. Should make it some type of hardcore match.

The Dragonmaster and The Iron Sheik vs. The Rock 'N' Roll Express

Where's the MX?

NWA United States Title Match: Ricky Steamboat defends vs. Dick Murdoch

Murdoch's not getting the US belt, no way no how.

Terry Funk vs. Sting

A dirty win to be sure, but a win nonetheless for the World title contender. Perhaps even an Ole turn? That'd be an interesting note.

The WWF seems to have a real tendency to have their best match in the penultimate slot. I am intrigued by the Mega Maniacs (Beefcake & Hogan) holding the Tag Team Titles. That's an interesting direction for the company.

AWA are really seperating themselves as a distant #3, by this point.

I'm really loving these Arena Reports. Keep 'em coming.

The Mega Maniacs title win definitely surprised me. It makes me hope that they are going to be releasing Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard at the end of their contracts, meaning that I can pick them both up!

Glad you're enjoying the Arena Reports. It gives a good look at the other companies and just how good or bad they're running the shows. lol.

Yes! Your NWA needs more Tully! Lots of Tully! Always Tully!

I'm a bit of a mark for the guy :o

[We are taken to earlier tonight to begin the show where Ric Flair's limo arrives within the parking garage. The door opens and Ric is immediately assaulted by Terry Funk! Funk has that branding iron in hand and he drags The Nature Boy out of the limo and onto the ground. He brings the branding iron down on the knee of Flair again and again! Ric cries out in pain! Terry gives a few extra stomps on Flair and then walks away as Flair yells his pain. He is then shown being placed inside an ambulance and being taken to a local hospital so he will not be here tonight.]

[We are taken back to an interview area where it is obvious that Gordon Solie and Sting both saw what happened earlier tonight.]

Gordon Solie

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Sting, we just saw what Terry Funk did to Ric Flair earlier this evening, keeping him from being in your corner later on when you face Terry Funk. Does this put you at a disadvantage going into this match?"

Sting

"Gordon, we both know that the J-Tex Corporation have NO HONOUR whatsoever. They will cheat and use anything they can to their advantage. Look at what they did to Ric Flair earlier tonight. Ric, I wish you a speedy recovery in the hospital tonight. I want you to lay there on the hospital bed and watch as I take vengeance on Terry Funk for you. This match is for you, Naitch."

Gordon Solie

"You are also scheduled to take on another J-Tex Corporation member at Halloween Havoc: The Great Muta. Your thoughts as we draw closer to that match?"

Sting

"I just don't understand Muta. He has some excellent skills but he is associated with the wrong people. Muta, you and I have been going back and forth but it ends at Halloween Havoc. Win, Lose, or Draw. It's gonna be SHOWTIME! OWWWWW!"

[sting turns and walks off as we head to the ring for our opening contest.]

NWA World Television Title Tournament

SEMIFINALS

Cactus Jack vs. Ole Anderson

[The wild, hardcore brawler Cactus Jack has looked excellent in his first two matches here in the NWA World Television title tournament. That being said, he is taking on a veteran brawler in Ole Anderson, who is nearly twice the age of the 24 year old Cactus. This one was a very good match that had the crowd on the edge of their seat. Cactus sent Ole outside the ring and hit him with the elbowdrop outside! He rolled Ole back in and made the cover: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout! Somehow Ole Anderson kicked out of that elbowdrop! Ole came back into the match and went for the Gourdbuster but Cactus kicked him in the head -- Double Arm DDT! Cactus made the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3! Cactus Jack advances!]

Winner: Cactus Jack (Via Pinfall @ 6:31)

Match Rating: B-

[Gordon Solie came out to the ring prepared to give an interview with Flyin' Brian and Z-Man. Flyin' Brian and Z-Man came out but were attacked from behind by The Fabulous Freebirds! The NWA World Tag Team Champions sent Z-Man into the crowd and focused on Flyin' Brian! Hayes tucked Brian in between his legs at ringside as Garvin climbed up on the apron -- Spiked Piledriver outside the ring! The crowd boos as the fun police come running down to break things up. Z-Man gets over to check on his partner, yelling for the EMTs.]

[We are taken backstage where Scott Steiner is attacked by Doom and a mystery man with Woman guiding the attack. Scott tries to fight back but the numbers game is just too much. As the mystery man grabs Scott around the throat, Butch Reed gets taken down.]

[Rick Steiner is here! Rick took down Butch Reed with the Steinerline but Ron Simmons blindsided him. Doom and the mystery man attack Rick Steiner now, focusing in on him. Woman slaps him across the face! The fun police finally show up to break things up]

NWA World Television Title Tournament

SEMIFINALS

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert

[This semifinal match features the power of Bam Bam Bigelow against the more technical skill of Eddie Gilbert. The crowd really seemed to enjoy this one, partially because of the view of Missy Hyatt at ringside. Gilbert worked over the knee of Bam Bam, limiting the Bammers offense. This turned out to be a bit of an achilles heel for Bam Bam as he tried to go to the top turnbuckle and slipped off, landing face-first on the mat! Gilbert pulled up Bigelow and dropped him with the Hot Shot! He made the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert (Via Pinfall @ 6:34)

[We head backstage to a locker room scene where the number one contender Terry Funk is sitting on a bench. He looks up into the camera with a nasty, angry look on his face.]

Terry Funk

"In just a very short time, Sting, you and I are going to step foot inside the ring facing off on opposite sides. You and I really aren't that different, though. Well, I don't wear makeup on my face like you do. And I don't come from a place like California that is filled with a bunch of sissy girls. Well, hell, it looks like we've got nothing in common, Sting. But that's just because I'm a Texan and that means I'm better than you and each and every person in the audience watching. I am going to beat you and send a message to that banana-nosed loser that I just put in the hospital a little while ago. You are going to go and join him in the hospital bed. Ric Flair, you better tell them to put another gurney right in beside you!"

[Terry stands up and walks out and we head to the ring.]

The Dragonmaster and The Iron Sheik vs. The Rock 'N' Roll Express

[Despite it being the return to the ring of the Rock 'N' Roll Express, the fans weren't really all that excited about the match in general. None of the four men really impressed in this match. Ricky Morton did a little bit of his Ricky Morton role in this match but the hot tag was made to Robert Gibson. Gibson threw punches and then set up The Iron Sheik -- Double Dropkick! Gibson made the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3! And the Rock 'N' Roll Express win in their first match back here in the NWA!]

Winners: The Rock 'N' Roll Express (Via Pinfall @ 6:32)

Match Rating: D+

[A video plays showing highlights from the feud between The Road Warriors and The Skyscrapers. These four men have fought all over the building. All four men were banned from the building tonight to give them a chance to cool down some. But that won't be the case at Halloween Havoc when these four men do battle in tag team action!]

[We are taken backstage to the catering table where Sting is trying to fight off the J-Tex Corporation! Sting starts to mount an advantage but he gets blinded by some asian mist by The Great Muta! Muta takes Sting down with a sharp kick to the back of the head. Terry Funk hits Sting over the head with his branding iron! Buzz Sawyer picks up Sting and body slams him onto the table! How vicious can you get??? Luckily for Sting, the fun police arrive on the scene. But The J-Tex Corporation is definitely taking their opposition apart one person at a time.]

Match #4

NWA United States Title Match

Ricky Steamboat defends vs. Dick Murdoch

[The Dragon is always one to get the crowd pumped up and excited, especially for a defense of his United States title and this match is no exception to the rule. Dick Murdoch is a wiley veteran, who knows all the tricks of the trade and doesn't mind using some if they will fit to his advantage. Murdoch shoved Steamboat in the early going of the match and Steamboat retaliated with a round house kick to the back of the head! Steamboat threw in a few more kicks for good measure and then bounced off the ropes -- back heel kick sends Murdoch to the mat! Steamboat taunts for a moment, drawing cheers from the crowd when he does so. He pulls Murdoch to his feet and lights up his chest with chops, backing Murdoch to the ropes. He whips Murdoch across the ring and ducks a clothesline -- Scoop Power Slam by Steamboat! He turns it into a pinfall: 1 -- 2 -- Kickout!]

[steamboat pulls Muta to his feet and backs him into a corn -- rake of the eyes by Murdoch! Murdoch slams Steamboat's head into the turnbuckle and then crowds him in the corner, peppering him with rights and lefts. Murdoch whips Steamboat across -- reversed! Steamboat runs at Murdoch -- Monkey Flip -- NO! Murdoch turned the Monkey Flip attempt into a Power Bomb! What a move by the Texas Veteran! Murdoch pulls Steamboat to his feet -- Short-Arm Clothesline! The NWA United States Champion is in trouble! Murdoch pulls Steamboat back up -- atomic drop! Steamboat staggers toward the ropes -- clothesline to the back of the head! The clothesline sends Steamboat over the top rope but Steamboat holds on to the ropes as Murdoch taunts the crowd! Steamboat pulls his way back up and over and into the ring! Murdoch turns and Steamboat hits him with a few chops! Steamboat body slams Murdoch to the mat and then climbs the turnbuckles. He's focusing in on 'Captain Redneck!' Steamboat signals for it as Murdoch climbs to his feet -- Flying Body Press! Steamboat hooks the leg: 1 -- 2 -- 3! Ricky Steamboat retains the NWA United States title!]

Winner: Ricky Steamboat (Via Pinfall @ 11:21; Ricky Steamboat retains the NWA United States title)

Match Rating: B

Match #5

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/terryfunk2.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/garyhart.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/sting4.jpg

Terry Funk vs. Sting

[How do you follow up a great semi main event like that? By having another great match to main event here on World Championship Wrestling. Terry Funk and Gary Hart came out to the ring first and as Sting's music played he didn't come out! Everyone saw the attack by The J-Tex Corporation earlier tonight on Sting. Terry got on the microphone and began calling Sting a yellow-bellied coward and a sissy! Gary Hart told referee Tommy Young to begin the count. At around six, Sting finally came hobbling out toward the ring. Terry Funk exited and met him halfway up the ramp! Funk and Sting exchanged punches on the entrance ramp! Sting ducked a Funk punch and lifted Funk -- Military Press Slam! What a move by the Stinger! Sting hobbles his way down toward the ring and enters inside. What courage by the man who some see as the future of the NWA. Terry Funk and Gary Hart hold a meeting outside the ring to readjust their strategy.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA/oleanderson.jpg

[As Funk entered the ring, Ole Anderson stepped from the back and began walking down toward the ring. Ole moved to stand in a neutral corner and watched as Sting took early control on Terry Funk! Sting tried to end this thing early by going for the Stinger Splash on Funk but Funk moved out of the way and Sting flew over the turnbuckles and landed with a loud splat on the floor. Gary Hart began walking over but so did Ole Anderson. Ole raised a fist, keeping Gary Hart at bay and then he pulled Sting to his feet and tossed him back in the ring. Referee Tommy Young warned him about interfering and Ole just shrugged. Funk spent the next few minutes working over the legs of Sting. Taking out the legs takes out the aerial part of Sting's game. It also makes that Scorpion Deathlock just a little less effective. Funk went for the Funk Spinning Toehold but Sting was able to grab the ropes before Funk could really get the hold cinched in good. Funk pulled Sting to his feet and sent him to the ropes -- hip toss -- no, Sting reverses it into a backslide and pinfall attempt:]

[...1...

...2...

...Kickout!]

[Funk catches Sting with a clothesline immediately as both men get to their feet. Funk taunts the crowd, who give him the boos that he is desiring they bring out. Funk pulls Sting to his feet and sets him up for the Texas Piledriver -- NO! Sting doesn't go all the way up! Sting reverses it into a back body drop! Both men fall to the mat. Referee Tommy Young begins the ten count on both men. Both men are slow and on wobbly legs as they get to their feet. Funk throws a punch -- ducked! Sting catches Funk -- Atomic Drop! Funk staggers forward and bangs heads with the official! Referee Tommy Young goes down! Sting immediately goes to check on the official, giving Funk an opportunity to hit him from behind! Funk tucks Sting in between his legs. He's setting him up for the Texas Piledriver again -- CLOTHESLINE BY OLE ANDERSON! The crowd goes absolutely wild here as Ole helps Sting! Ole slides out of the ring and grabs a chair, sliding back inside. He hands the chair over to Sting and motions toward Terry Funk! He's telling Sting to use the chair on Funk! Terry Funk crawls into the corner and puts up his hands looking to ward off any shot by Sting. Sting hands the chair back to Ole! He doesn't want to win this way! Sting and Ole argue for a few more minutes and then Ole seems satisfied and turns away -- KEE-RACK! Ole nailed Sting with the chair right across the forehead! The crowd boos and Ole drops the chair in the center of the ring. Terry Funk pushes out of the corner and walks over to Sting -- Texas Piledriver on the chair! Sting is absolutely unconcious! Funk slides the chair out to Gary Hart as the referee begins to recover. Funk makes the cover, hooking the leg:]

[...1...

...2...

...3!]

Winner: Terry Funk (Via Pinfall @ 18:16)

Match Rating: A

[The crowd boos this victory by Terry Funk. The madman from the Double Cross Ranch exits the ring with his arms held high as Ole Anderson enters the ring. Ole slaps Sting across the head several times. He picks up Sting -- Gourdbuster! The crowd boos even more, a few pieces of trash littering the ring itself! Ole looks down at Sting and just shakes his head before he turns and exits, walking off as we come to a close! We'll see you next week! Just what will Ric Flair have to say?]
