BCF: A Rookie Tries The WMMA-Verse

BRITISH CAGE FIGHTING ANNOUNCE TV DEAL

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/BCF/BCF-1.jpg

The only way to remove the smile from Chris Dewing's face may be a form of new surgery, as the BCF President arrived at today's press conference grinning from ear to ear. The assembled media rightly assumed he was not there to fire someone or announce the company's impending closure. Instead he was there to announce the biggest coup for the company since he took over, but it was not a fighter, it was confirmation that the BCF had agreed a TV deal with Euro Sports Net 4. A new TV show called BCF: Warriors will begin airing in Q2 of 1998, most likely once every six weeks.

Unfortunately for BCF both the terms of the contract and the station itself are not ideal. The station is one of the smallest TV stations in Europe, with average viewership of no more than 200,000 people over the whole of Europe, Russia and the United Kingdom. The terms of the contract have BCF paying for 80% of the production, and only receiving 20% of the advertising rights, meaning that any shows they do run for the network are very likely to be at a loss for the company. Also, the shows are likely to air at midnight, and with a 1 hour show the maximum number of fights they will be able to televise is just three. Plus they only have a deal for 4 shows, and if the network aren't happy then there won't be any more comissioned.

With all the many, many, many negatives aside the television deal will be an important part of BCF's rise in the world of MMA. They will be expanding their product outside of the 700 people who watch the shows live in London to most likely 100-200,000 viewers from the UK, Europe and Russia. The fighters that appear on these shows, particularly the winners of the main events, will become bigger names at a much quicker rate. At the press conference Dewing stated that he had not decided whether to use the TV show to build up potential future stars, or to change the type of card used for their event shows to the TV instead, so that title matches would most likely be on the TV show.

The first card is expected to be announced after BCF: Spyrou vs. Rush, even though there are two more non-televised events scheduled for April. Dewing has suggested that the shows will be held on a Wednesday so as to create seperation between the Saturday Events and the TV show.

Nice 100% woohoo!

I always like looking at predictions because if I've posted a review then I've probably done the show as well, so I knew you'd got them all right. Not sure I want to be so predictable though!

I usually don't read these. I love yours. I'm gonna check back often.

Thanks very much and I hope you do, same goes for everyone else who's dropped in to read, I hope you're enjoying it and stay with it :).

British Cage Fighting will be back for their next show on the first Saturday in April, and for the frist time since Chris Dewing was brought in to be the new president of the company they will be running a show without a title match on the card. Headlining this show will be another all-Scottish Light Heavyweight contest between Lenny McFadden and Adrian Majoram.

The first fight of the night will be in the Lightweight division, and in an all-England, all 3-0 and all-Dom battle, Dom Yorke (3-0) will take on Dominick Oppenheiemr (3-0). Yorke is a fighter with a decent wrestling base that surprises opponents who are expecting English fighters to be primarily boxers, and his ground skills are adequate enough that he can finish a fight if thigs go his way. However he is also quite light for the weight class which means he can be overpowered both standing and on the mat. Oppenheimer is the definition of a "hit-and-run" fighter, he has excellent speed and movement with a highly technical striking game which he can use to score with punches and get out of harms way. He does have a lack of skills on the ground which could cause him trouble during this fight.

In the Heavyweight division we will see debutant Dutch fighter Jacco Landeweerd (3-0) take on BCF veteran Dave Lennon (13-4). Landeweerd is one of the many Dutch fighters who have trained since an early age in kickboxing, and the result is a fighter who should be treated with caution. A physically imposing man, Landeweerd is one of the bigger Heavyweights in the division, and combined with his powerful punches and kicks he could be a fighter to watch out for. At 30 years old Dave Lennon is approaching his prime as a fighter, and although he lacks a well-rounded skill set, his punches could be some of the hardest punches in the BCF. Nobody doubts Lennon's toughness and resiliance, Landeweerd will need to hit him very hard if he's going to finish him.

Callum Henson (18-7) makes his BCF debut in the Welterweight division against promising Londoner Mikey Wallace (5-0). Henson is one of the many Canadians making his way across the Atlantic to pursue his MMA career due to the lack of options in his homeland. He comes in with a fairly impressive record from local shows in both the USA and Canada, he is most well-known for the accuracy and power of his kicks, with his favoured option being to attack the legs of his opponents to limit their movement. Mikey Wallace brings not only an unbeaten record to the cage, but also some of the highest honours available in amateur kickboxing. Despite having trained hard to try and form a well-rounded game Wallace's first option will always be to stand and trade with his opponent, and it takes a brave man to stay opposite him for any length of time.

The second fight in the Heavyweight division pits two of the BCF's experienced fighters against each other when Perry Barr (14-4) takes on Mark Bicknell (7-2). Barr is currently on a winning streak thanks to some impressive ground and pound techniques that have broken even the toughest of defences. He does have his drawbacks though, he's quite small for the Heavyweight division and all 4 of his losses have come via KO. Bicknell is a powerhouse with an extensive wrestling background that many of his fellow British heavyweights do not have. Thus far in his career he has used his grappling skills to control his opponents against the cage and on the mat, but aside from one guillotine choke his victories have all come via decision as he struggles to finish opponents off.

The co-main event of the evening is in the Middleweight division as Daniel Hornsby (11-3) makes the extra weight cut to 185 when he takes on Ginger Beaumont (4-0). Hornsby has never fought at Middleweight before but has decided to drop down a weight class in order to further utilise his strong grappling skills. It may also help his stand-up game, as he has struggled against many opponents on his feet at 205. Ginger Beaumont is the first fighter to fight for a second time under BCF's new management, which may be a strong indication of their faith in his potential. He previously fought on the first show of the year where he defeated Pierce Jeeler in the first round via submission. With raw power in his strikes and good wrestling technique, Beaumont has made a good impression in his BCF time thus far.

The main event of the evening will be a contest between two undefeated Scottish Light Heavyweights where a win for either man could put them into contention for a title shot. Lenny McFadden (8-0) goes up against Adrian Majoram (5-0) in a classic grappler vs. striker battle. McFadden is a dangerous striker as well as a wrestler having trained in Boxing and Wrestling since a young age. A very large Light Heavyweight due to the amount of weight he cuts to reach 205, McFadden has had issues with cardio in the past as well as being weak at fighting off his back. Majoram could be considered the stereotypical Scottish fighter; he stands, he punches, he gets punched, he punches back harder. Well versed with both his feet and hands it would be foolish for any fighter to think they can stand and bang with him for a full fight without being on the receiving end of a potentially fight ending strike.

BCF: MCFADDEN vs. MAJORAM

Fight #1

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/BCF/DomYorke.jpghttp://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/vs.jpghttp://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/BCF/DominickOppenheimer.jpg

Lightweight Division

Dom Yorke (3-0) vs. Dominick Oppenheimer (3-0)

Round 1

Oppenheimer starts the fight with a nice left hand but the fight soon moves to the clinch, and it's Yorke who is the aggressor, pushing Oppenheimer back against the cage. Yorke keeps him there for quite a long time, using dirty boxing to land strikes occasionally, but soon the referee has had enough and brings them back to the centre. Yorke does the exact same thing again, and lands some knees to the ribs of the trapped Oppenheimer before the round ends.

Round 2

Oppenheimer lands two hard leg kicks to open the round, before connecting with several hard right hands that put Yorke on the mat! Yorke seems to recover quickly, he scoots backwards and gets back to his feet, but he tries a predictable takedown that gets him nowhere. Oppenheimer's striking looks superb as he lands three combinations in a matter of moments, then he connects with another solid right hand and Yorke is down again! Oppenheimer moves in and looks for the BCF Speciality Armbar, but Yorke fights it off and again gets back to his feet. Not for long though, Yorke moves in again and Oppenheimer catches him with another right hand, Yorke is down AGAIN! Yorke survives the round as time runs out before Oppenheimer could follow up.

Round 3

Oppenheimer lands some more hard right hands and Yorke is knocked down for a fourth time, Oppenheimer tries the BCF Speciality Armbar again but Yorke is still able to defend it, and he's back up again. A tired Yorke tries a poor takedown, so poor the Oppenheimer stuffs it and wrestles Yorke to the ground momentarily. When they're back up Oppenhaimer swings and connects with another vicious right hand, and it appears Yorke's chin can't take any more, he's down and this time he's knocked out. A superb performance from Dominick Oppenheimer!

Winner: Dominick Oppenheimer (4-0) via KO (Punch) - 4:05 of Round 3

Match Rating: Good

Fight #2

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/BCF/JaccoLandeweerd.jpghttp://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/vs.jpghttp://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/BCF/DaveLennon.jpg

Heavyweight Division

Jacco Landeweerd (3-0) vs. Dave Lennon (13-4)

Round 1

Well this whole fight is just terrible, so I'm going to struggle for details. Lennon tries to grapple for the entire round, whilst Landeweerd tries to strike from a distance. Barely anything connected the entire round, and when a punch landed it was with very little force.

Round 2

And so it continued, Landeweerd was more aggressive but still couldn't land much, he does land a vicious leg kick that probably did some damage, for some reason he didn't use his leg kick very often. Landeweerd also landed a jab to the face. Yay.

Round 3

Landeweerd lands another jab and another leg kick, whilst Lennon hangs back and doesn't do... anything. Let's look at the stats... Landeweered landed 9 punches and 5 kicks, Lennon landed 4 punches. That would be 4 out of 64 attempts, or 6%. That is terrible. Landeweerd landed 9 punches out of 37 which is 24% and still not very good. THIS FIGHT WAS TERRIBLE. The judges gave is 30-27, 29-28, 29-28 to Landeweerd, meaning two judges gave a round to Lennon. FIRE THOSE JUDGES.

Winner: Jacco Landeweerd (4-0) via Unanimous Decision

Fight Rating: Awful

Welterweight Division

Callum Henson (18-7) vs. Mikey Wallace (5-0)

Round 1

Well for a start these two landed more strikes in the first round than the entire of that last fight. Both men landed a good jab early on, before the fight moved into a clinch allowing the stronger Henson to back Wallace into the cage. Henson uses some dirty boxing and rocks Wallace with an uppercut, as well as a knee to the ribs. They seperate and Henson lands one of his hard leg kicks, a jab, and another leg kick. Those things look painful.

Round 2

Both fighters come out looking to strike but it's Henson who gets the first good shot in with a kick to the ribs, but after the excitement of the opening minute the fighters back off and circle for a while. Henson lands another leg kick but that's really the only other strike that connects, but they seem to be doing a good job of making Wallace think twice about moving forwards.

Round 3

The first punch of the round is a big one, Henson connects with a decent right hand that knocks Wallace to the mat, it doesn't look particularly powerful but it did it's job. Henson moves in and starts unloading punches, several get through and connect with the face of the fallen Wallace. Suddenly the referee jumps in, and he stops the fight! Henson is happy, but Wallace thinks it was stopped too early! Well complaining won't change anything, Henson takes the victory by TKO!

Winner: Callum Henson (19-7) via TKO (Strikes) - 0:37 of Round 3

Match Rating: Good

Fight #4

Heavyweight Division

Perry Barr (14-4) vs. Mark Bicknell (7-2)

Round 1

Bicknell shows his size and strength advantage early on, he slams Barr down to the mat sensationally, and he's in half guard. Bicknell then tries for an arm triangle... and he gets it locked in! But Barr is a tough son-on-my-gun, and he doesn't quit and keeps going until he can break free. Bicknell lands some hard punches from the guard, but soon there's not a lot he can do and the round runs out after a lack of action.

Round 2

Barr lands some good punches to start the round and Bicknell seems a bit rocked, he stays on his feet but Barr is able to push him up against the cage. However this turns out in Bicknell's favour as he gets a trip takedown and goes back to dominating Barr on the ground. Bicknell gets through into side control but Barr manages to control his arms to stop any strikes landing. Bicknell does however get the hooks in and tries, then succeeds to take his back, but Bicknell runs out of time to get a submission hold in.

Round 3

Barr needs a finish here, Bicknell's taken the first two rounds. Barr lands a series of quick punches on more than one occasion, and uses a strong jab to keep Bicknell from grappling. Barr keeps on moving forward and landing strikes, he then dodges a Bicknell right hand and drops him with a barrage of hard rights! Bicknell is down and covering up as best he can, but Barr is relentless in his punches. Barr keeps on going and eventually the referee steps in! Just 17 seconds left in the fight and Barr has stolen the victory!

Winner: Perry Barr (15-4) via TKO (Strikes) - 4:43 of Round 3

Fight Rating: Decent

Middleweight Division

Daniel Hornsby (11-3) vs. Ginger Beaumont (4-0)

Round 1

Beaumont knows what he wants to do straight away, he uses some punches as a distraction and then shoots in gets a big takedown. Beaumont is in half guard but that doesn't stop him from trying submissions. He nearly gets Hornsby trapped in an arm triangle on two seperate occasions, before later in the round getting into side control and attempting the BCF Speciality Armbar. The armbar is fully locked in but time is on Hornsby's side, he's able to last out the remaining seconds and get to the second round.

Round 2

Beaumont lands a crisp left hand to start the round, then shoots in for another easy takedown. From full guard Beaumont tries some elbows, but his main goal is to get into a dominant position, and it doesn't take long for him to get into side control. From there Beaumont only has one thing on his mind, the BCF Speciality Armbar. He gets the hold in and it's very secure, Hornsby struggles for a bit but he can't escape, he has to tap out! Beaumont gets another submission victory.

Winner: Ginger Beaumont (5-0) via Submission (Armbar) - 2:37 of Round 2

Match Rating: Decent

Light Heavyweight Division

Lenny McFadden (8-0) vs. Adrian Majoram (5-0)

Round 1

McFadden lands a clean jab to start the fight, but when he moves in for a combination it's Majoram who lands a hard right hand and McFadden is knocked down! McFadden comes back to his senses quickly, and when Majoram looks to join him on the ground he avoids him and stands up. The rest of the round isn't anywhere near as exciting, McFadden probably has the better of the striking exchanges but he'll lose the round because of that knockdown.

Round 2

McFadden comes in looking for combinations but Majoram is there again with some good counter strikes, most notably a kick to the body and a jab. McFadden counters himself with a clean right hand and a solid jab, but he misses a jab and Majoram lands another hard right hand, McFadden is knocked down again! Majoram dives in to try and get a dominant ground position, but McFadden reverses and takes the top position. McFadden goes for an arm triangle but Majoram defends it well. McFadden is able to get to side control just before the round ends, but he'll lose the round again because of the knockdown.

Round 3

McFadden hits a nice jab but gets caught by a hard leg kick from Majoram, the two fighters keeping their distance for a lot of the first half of the round. Majoram lands a couple more hard leg kicks and it looks like they're causing damage, but McFadden manages to move in and land a hook to the body. All of a sudden Majoram connects with ANOTHER big right hand, knocking McFadden down for a third time! But again Majoram moves in to the ground and loses out, McFadden reverses quickly and takes the top position. McFadden goes for his arm triangle again, and this time it's sunk in deep! But there's only twenty seconds left in the fight! Majoram holds on... and holds on... and BREAKS FREE! Majoram grabs a hold of McFadden and keeps him there until the round ends, that probably saved the fight for him. The judges all scored it 30-27 for Adrian Majoram, who remains undefeated.

BCF will have their second Heavyweight title contest of the year on Saturday, Week 3 of April when Stafford Alois puts his title up for grabs again against the #1 Contender from New Zealand Carter Potter.

However the first fight of the night will be a Middleweight contest between another New Zealander Jemaine McKenzie (4-0) makes his BCF debut against Tucker Plumm (13-8). Primarily a boxer, Jemaine McKenzie has been criticised recently for his reported lack of enthusiasm for training on other areas of his game, preferring to believe that his boxing skills will always help him pick up a victory. So far he has been proved correct, can Tucker Plumm be the first to exploit this hole? Plumm himself is a karate fighter who has spent a lot of time training on the ground to prepare for any eventual fighting on the mat. He will be hoping his rather unimpressive record doesn't have another loss added to it after this fight ends.

In the Lightweight division we will see debutant Gerardo Diez (1-0) take on BCF veteran Steven Griffin (12-5). Diez makes his way to the BCF from Mexico City, and is one of the quickest fighters in the world today in both movement and hand speed. Even though he lacks power he is a very dangerous man to face standing up, however things might be very different if he is fighting off his back. Steven Griffin has fought in the BCF many times, but this will be his first journey into the Lightweight division. A very well-rounded fighter who doesn't excel at any one particular skill, Griffin is to be taken seriously both on the feet and on the ground, and is now fighting at a weight class that suits his body size.

Two undefeated Middleweight fighters will go against each other in what could be a fight between two future MMA stars, Edgar van den Hoogenband (3-0) takes on the debuting Isaiah Monroe (4-0). Van den Hoogenband is another Dutch kickboxer who would quite easily be able to stand and trade with any man in MMA. To go with his elite striking he has been cross-training hard to become more well-rounded, making him a scary prospect for any opponent. Widely considered one of the best athletes in MMA, "Thump" Monroe is a former college stand-out wrestler with incredible takedowns and great power in his hands. Truth be told I'm annoyed at myself for making this fight, I should have been feeding lesser fighters to them, not taking the undefeated record away from one of them...

The next fight will be in the Light Heavyweight division between Jericho Stewart (1-0) and Conor Houghton (4-3). Stewart makes his way to us from Puerto Rico, and has been training hard for his MMA career for some time. Originially one of the world's most promising amateur boxers, Stewart made the change to MMA where his physical strength will be more utilised. Naturally a very strong stand-up fighter, he has developed a very good sprawl to keep the fight on the feet as well. Houghton comes into this fight as what I like to call a "sacrifice". He really isn't a very good fighter at all, just coming into fights looking to brawl and maybe get a lucky punch for a victory. Sorry Conor.

In the Semi Main Event we will see Welterweights collide when Esteban Vega (2-0) goes up against rugged veteran Mills Mulllally (14-5). At just 19 years of age Vega could already be considered one of most well-rounded fighters in the BCF. Originally a wrestler he has developed very good boxing skills, and also a good guard to fight off his back should he need to. Mullally fights his second fight of 1998, with his first effort a unanimous decision loss to Martin Cupples. Mullally's strengths like in his boxing skills and his granite chin, he is yet to be finished in a fight. Mullally will be hoping to get back to winning ways and ruin Vega's BCF debut.

And so we come to the Main Event, possibly the biggest Main Event in BCF history, as the Heavyweight title will be on the line between Stafford Alois (27-8) and Carter Potter (16-4). Alois makes his second BCF Heavyweight Title defence of the year after defeating Harry Milne in a pretty crap main event of the first show of 1998. Alois is currently ranked #5 in the world's Heavyweight division rankings and has a wide range of skills that make him dangerous from any position. Always be watchful for a head kick, he has finished fights in that fashion more than any other. Carter Potter earned his title shot with a third round submission victory over Eddie Whelan, but he dominated the fight and is certainly a big threat to Alois' title. With strong hands, a good ground game and excellent cardio he can win a fight at any time, and is currently ranked at #11 in the world Heavyweight rankings.

Middleweight Division

Jemaine McKenzie (4-0) vs. Tucker Plumm (13-8)

Round 1

Plumm lands a good leg kick to start with, but McKenzie comes back with a hard jab. Plumm hits a left, but McKenzie keeps moving forward and connects with a series of hard right hands that sends Plumm to the mat! McKenzie moves in to try and finish him off but Plumm recovers his senses and keeps him at half guard. McKenzie's grtound skills are seemingly not up to much, Plumm gets him back to full guard quite quickly and keeps him there for the remainder of the round. McKenzie tries to land some ground strikes but they don't have much behind them and aren't connecting anywhere dangerous.

Round 2

Plumm comes out being a bit more aggressive, he throws a few combinations but McKenzie is able to avoid them. McKenzie looks to move in closer but he gets stung by a leg kick from Plumm. Plumm then connects with another low kick, but it's a bit too central and it connects with McKenzie's Plumms (HA!). McKenzie gets a few moments to compose himself and they go back to fighting, and Plummscores with another leg kick and a nice jab to the cheek. McKenzie does manage to counter with some hard right hands but Plumm takes them in his stride, only he knows how much those hurt.

Round 3

Plumm starts the round with some quick left hands and a kick to the ribs of McKenzie. Plumm dodges a McKenzie left hand and connects with a crisp left hand, then McKenzie swings with a right and Plumm counters again with a hard left hand. They move into a clinch and McKenzie lands some punches, but Plumm's dirty boxing is slightly better and he lands more punches before they break. A tired McKenzie doesn't seem to have anything left, things seemed to go off the rails after the first round. All the judges score the fight 29-28 to give a Unanimous Decision victory to Tucker Plumm!

Winner: Tucker Plumm (14-8) via Unanimous Decision

Lightweight Division

Gerardo Diaz (1-0) vs. Steven Griffin (12-5)

Round 1

Both fighters come out swining a whole load of punches, Diez's hand speed is apparent as he lands a flurry of punches that Griffin absorbs by covering up. Griffin shoots in to try a takedown but Diez catches him moving in with a stiff jab, so Griffin moves back out. Diez lands a good jab many times to keep Griffin away from grappling with him, but his attempt at a spinning back fist is entertaining but inaccurate.

Round 2

Diez goes for a kick, not his usual tactic, and he pays for it when Griffin catches it and takes him down. They stay on the ground for a while with Griffin smothering Diez stopping him from moving anywhere, before Griffin moves past guard and gets into side control. Griffin lands some knees to the body and a couple of punches, but Diez makes a sudden burst to get out, and he does so to get back to his feet. Diez lands some quick left hands before both men exchange small strikes, but Diez goes for another kick and gets taken down again. What a fool.

Round 3

Boy Diez isn't learning at all, he tries another kick and Griffin takes him down again. Things get worse for Diez pretty quickly, he tries to scramble but only succeeds in giving Griffin his back. Griffin unloads with some big right hands to the side of Diez, several of which look pretty nasty. Griffin then isolates and secures an arm, before rolling through to get him in an armbar! THAT'S THE BCF SPECIALITY! Griffin gets it locked in tight and Diez has to tap out! Griffin takes a victory on his Lightweight debut.

Winner: Steven Griffin (13-5) via Submission (Armbar) - 3:48 of Round 3

Middleweight Division

Edgar van den Hoogenband (3-0) vs. Isaiah Monroe (4-0)

Round 1

van den Hoogenband lands a good straight left and a nice jab to the head, but Monroe literally picks him up and slams him to the ground. BODYSLAM CHALLENGE~! Monroe is in guard and he tries some ground and pound, but it's not very effective. Monroe passes quickly into side control, then once again into mount! Monroe tries for the BCF Speciality Armbar, but van den Hoogenband stacks him up, Monroe lets go and van den Hoogenband is on top! van den Hoogenband stands up to go back to striking, but it's Monroe that connects with a right hand. Monroe tries another takedown but van den Hoogenband avoids it, and the round ends.

Round 2

van den Hoogenband connects with a hard left hook and a left jab, Monroe shoots in but again van den Hoogenband manages to keep the fight standing. van den Hoogenband hits a HARD counter right hand that Monroe is somehow able to withstand, then counters a missed jab with a hard left jab. Monroe shoots in once again but van den Hoogenband keeps it standing again, his takedown defence here is possibly the difference between staying in the fight and losing out.

Round 3

Monroe tries another takedown but once again van den Hoogenband stops him. van den Hoogenband lands a crisp left hand, Monroe keeps trying to move in but van den Hoogenband lands a jab to keep him away. van den Hoogenband lands a straight left, but makes the mistake of trying a low kick, Monroe is quick to catch his foot and he gets a takedown! All that hard work from van den Hoogenband and he gives it away with a simple kick! Monrose fires away with elbows from the guard, Hoogenbad defends them well but he can't stop Monroe from getting into side control. Fortunately for van den Hoogenband time expires in the fight so Monroe can't do anything from the position. Unfortunately for van den Hoogenband the judges all score the fight 29-28 for Isiaih Monroe.

Winner: Isaiah Monroe via Unanimous Decision

Match Rating: Good

Light Heavyweight Division

Jericho Stewart (1-0) vs. Conor Houghton

Round 1

Boy we sure have had lots of three round fights tonight. So a big thank you to Jericho Stewart for this:

>The fight begins!

>Stewart counters a left jab by using a nice jab.

>Stewart avoids a jab and scores with a right hook, knocking Houghton out!

>Jericho Stewart takes the win by Knock Out!

There will be much tougher tests for Jericho Stewart, but you only get one debut for a first impression, and he sure made an impressive one!

Winner: Jericho Stewart (2-0) via KO (Punch) - 0:55 of Round 1

Fight Rating: Good

Welterweight Division

Esteban Vega (2-0) vs. Mills Mullally (14-5)

Round 1

Vega lands the first good punch with a left hand, then a left jab. However he attempts a body kick and Mullally returns fire with a series of big right hands knocking Vega down! Vega shakes it off whilst on the ground, but Mullally is cautious about going to the ground, so he lets Vega back up. The remainder of the round sees both men staying back not wanting to commit to anything, Vega does land a leg kick but that won't win him the round.

Round 2

Not a good opening to the round, they spend more time feinting than they do striking, but when they do it's pretty spectacular, Mullally connects with a hard right hand that drops Vega for a second time. Mullally joins him on the ground this time and tries to finish him off with some ground and pound, however Vega recovers again and gets Mullally to half guard. Mullally is happy to stay there and spends the remainder of the round landing small punches and maintaining control of the fight.

Round 3

Mullally lands some quick punches to start the round, but Vega dodges a punch to land a jab, then ducks a big right hand and connects with another jab. Mullally lands a nice strike to the body, but Vega's counter-striking continues and he lands a straight left hand and a solid right, followed by another jab. As time begins to run out they both go to throw one last strike, they both miss and they end up in a clinch. It was a fun fight, and all the judges scored it 29-28 for Miles Mullally, so experience wins out over youth in this contest.

Winner: Miles Mullally (15-5) via Unanimous Decision

Fight Rating: Good

BCF Heavyweight Title Match

Stafford Alois (27-8) vs. Carter Potter (16-4)

Round 1

Potter lands the first strike of the match with a good jab, that seems to piss Alois off and he moves in trying to knock Potter's head off, but Potter moves back out of the way. Potter tries for a takedown but Alois moves out of the way. Potter moves in closer but Alois doesn't seem to want to strike for some reason, Potter tries another takedown but Alois clobbers him with a hard right hand! Potter is rocked but he dodges a jab with a left hand, Alois then responds with a left hand of his own. Potter tries another takedown but again Alois is having none of it, and the first round ends.

Round 2

Potter lands a good jab to start the round, but he attempts another takedown that Alois blocks quite easily. Alois throws a flurry of punches that Potter avoids, then Potter throws a combination that misses, but it's mainly to set up another takedown. Alois moves away again. Potter tries a slam next, shockingly that doesn't work either. Alois is looking a bit tired and his strikes are getting a bit erratic, Potter is able to dodge a jab and he fires back with a punch to the jaw. The round ends and Alois looks pretty exhausted as he makes his way back to his stool.

Round 3

Alois throws a jab and Potter moves into connect with a flurry of jabs and straight punches. Alois is backing off a bit but tries to throw a leg kick, it's easily telegraphed by Potter and he moves in to connect with a barrage of big right hands! Alois is knocked down to the floor and is in a whole bunch of trouble! Potter smells blood and moves in for the kill, he rains down bunches to the head of Alois! Alois covers up as best he can but Potter is relentless in his striking... and the referee pulls him away! We have a NEW Heavyweight champion! Shame he's from New Zealand.

Winner: Carter Potter (17-4) via TKO (Strikes) - 1:08 of Round 3

Holy crap, I've just realised I missed out a whole preview and show from back in March, and we're now in May!

The third event I ran was a show headlined by Jake Keane and Seth O'Breen, I've put it below if you want to read it. It certainly helps catch up on what that preview is talking about!

SHOW HELD BETWEEN BCF: KANE VS. SITHALAYAN AND BCF: KITSON VS. MCSWEEGAN

Light Heavyweight Division

Crow Leddy (3-0) vs. Gustavo Spagnol (3-0)

Round 1

Spagnol lands a god jab to start before avoiding a barrage of right hands from Leddy. Spagnol then gets Leddy in a clinch and uses the underhooks to get a trip takedown, landing in Leddy's guard. Spagnol starts to work his way through the guard and quickly gets into side control. From there Spagnol starts raining down hard right and left hands, Leddy takes shot after shot and offers nothing in defence. That's all the referee needs to see and he pulls Spagnol away, he takes a dominant TKO victory.

Winner: Gustavo Spagnol (4-0) via TKO (Punches) - 3:10 of Round 1

Match Rating: Decent

Fight #2

Lightweight Division

Chad Zoff (1-0) vs. Buzzy Tuttle (4-1)

Round 1

Zoff makes his strategy clear right away as he shoots in for a takedown, but Tuttle manages to stuff it and stay standing. After a brief exchange of striking Zoff goes for another takedown but again Tuttle manages to stop him. However it's third time lucky for Zoff, he gets a clinch and a trip takedown to land in Tuttle's guard. Within moments he's out of the guard and into Tuttle's mount, I think Tuttle needs to work on his ground game. Zoff goes for an armbar and Tuttle shows no knowledge of how to stop it, Zoff gets the lock fully applied and Tuttle has to tap out to save his arm from snapping. A superb victory for Zoff, he looks like a talented kid.

Winner: Chad Zoff (2-0) via Submission (Armbar) - 3:20 of Round 1

Match Rating: Great

Welterweight Division

Rich Robinson (2-0) vs. Robert Darrell (11-4)

Round 1

Robinson comes out like a mad man swinging for the fences looking to send Darrell's jaw into the third row. Unfortunately for him Darrell seems to be expecting this and uses some good counters to land some hard shots on Robinson. Darrell lands a good body kick after dodging a barrage of hard punches, but a second attempt at a body kick is avoided by Robinson who counters with a hard barrage of right and left hands that sends Darrell back against the cage. Robinson lands some more shots and Darrell falls to the ground obviously hurt by the punches. Robinson keeps on unleashing fury from his punches and Darrell is stuck with nowhere to go. The referee steps in and saves Darrell from any further beating, Robinson takes the victory with an impressive debut performance.

Winner: Rich Robinson (3-0) via TKO (Strikes) - 2:58 of Round 1

Match Rating: Great

Fight #4

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/BCF/TuckDurdell.jpghttp://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/vs.jpghttp://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/BCF/RobBaines.jpg

Middleweight Division

Tuck Durdell (1-0) vs. Rob Baines (26-10)

Round 1

Both men come out with different things in mind, Durdell manages to pin Baines up against the cage but the experienced Baines uses his fight-smarts to stop any attempted shots from Durdell and turn the position around so Durdell is against the cage. Baines looks for a takedown on several occasions during the round but Durdell keeps it on the feet well. Not a lot of action, not a very good round.

Round 2

Baines shot in for a takedown early in the round but Durdell was able to sprawl and land some good shots before Baines could back away and get back to his feet. Baines lands a good left hand and shoots in again, but again Durdell just avoids the takedown attempt. Baines connects with some quick punches that don't do much damage but win points with the judges, his aggression will probably earn him the round.

Round 3

Baines tries for another takedown to start this round, once again Durdell avoided it. Whilst the takedowns haven't worked they have certainly tired Durdell out, he gets Baines into a clinch and gets him pinned against the cage. He keeps him there for a bit whilst breathing heavily, but once again an attempted knee allows Baines to switch and pin Durdell against the cage. Baines tries for another takedown but he still can't get it. The round and the fight come to an end, the judges score it 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27, all for Rob Baines.

Winner: Rob Baines (27-10) via Unanimous Decision

Match Rating: Poor

Light Heavyweight Division

Allen LeFleur (1-0) vs. Mick Curran (12-6)

Round 1

LeFleur gets caught by a left from Curran, but avoids a combination from Curran. LeFleur shoots in for a takedown but gets clobbered by a hard right hand from Curran! LeFleur drops but is quickly back up, his wits recovered. LeFleur then ducks a right hand and grabs Curran for a big takedown, landing in half guard. LeFleur shows some good ground skills by passing from half guard into mount in one swift movement, Curran is in trouble. With a minute left in the round LeFleur goes for an armbar, and it's a tight one. Curran has no options left, he has to tap out and give LeFleur the victory! Another strong performance from a debutant.

Winner: Allen LeFleur (2-0) via Submission (Armbar) - 4:29 of Round 1

Match Rating: Great

Semi Main Event

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/BCF/RavKapur.jpghttp://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/vs.jpghttp://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/BCF/VicMillican.jpg

Heavyweight Division

Rav Kapur (6-0) vs. Vic Millican (16-3)

Round 1

Kapur uses a variety of strikes throughout the first round, his low kicks in particular are pretty hard. Kapur does a good job of avoiding Millican's punches and landing shots of his own, and lands a kick to the ribs when Millican misses a combination. Millican is extremely aggressive in coming forward and does land a nice sequence of punches that Kapur cannot avoid. Overall, a very close round.

Round 2

Kapur lands another hard body kick, but trying it again allows Millican to land two hard right hands that leaves Kapur wobbly! Millican hurries in and tries to finish the fight but Kapur recovers quickly and is able to block the barrage. Kapur then uses his physical advantages to take control, he came in with a 32lb weight advantage, and pushes Millican up against the cage. For the remaining couple of minutes he uses dirty boxing to land strikes and his power to keep Millican against the cage.

Round 3

Kapur lands another kick to the body, but with both men tired the striking is not quite what it used to be. Kapur goes for the less energy-exerting option of leg kicks, but Millican comes back with a couple of hard right hands at Kapur is rocked again! Kapur backs off and just barely misses a head kick from Millican. Millican moves in with a combination of rights and lefts but Kapur avoids them and connects with a leg kick just before the round ends.

The judges give their decision - 29-28 for Millican, 29-28 for Kapur, and... 29-28 for Kapur! Rav Kapur remains undefeated but Vic Millican can count himself unlucky!

Winner: Rav Kapur (7-0) via Split Decision

Match Rating: Good

BCF Lightweight Title Match

Jake Keane (22-4) vs. Seth O'Breen (12-0)

Odds on the fight are -590 for Keane and +470 for O'Breen. I'm writing this before the match starts and if this was real I'd put some money on O'Breen...

Round 1

O'Breen lands the first two good shots of the fight but Keane shoots in looking for a takedown, O'Breen avoids it well. O'Breen then goes for a takedown of his own but Keane blocks that, only for O'Breen to push him against the cage. O'Breen goes for another takedown, not only is he successful but he takes Keane's back! O'Brean for some reason decides to go for an armbar from that position, but Keane is able to get free, and he takes the dominant position in side control! Keane moves in to mount and goes for an armbar of his own... and sinks it in! O'Breen struggles as best he can but eventually he has to tap out! Keane defends his title successfully, O'Breen came so close to defeating him though.

BRITISH CAGE FIGHTING STEAL ALPHA-1 TALENT

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/BCF/KhruDuangjan.gif

Constantly growing? Check. Constantly making a profit at shows? Check. Now you can add "Talent Raiding Selfish Bastards" to the British Cage Fighting resumé, as they swooped in to steal Light Heavyweight fighter Khru Duangjan from ALPHA-1 this week.

Duangjan's contract with the Japanese promotion came into it's final month making him available to talk to other companies, and by using their extensive phone-tapping scout system the BCF became aware of the situation and pushed in to the ALPHA-1 negotiations to take Duangjan away from them. BCF president Chris Dewing gave his unbiased thoughts on the subject:

I don't think we did anything wrong, we certainly didn't do anything illegal. It's written in all MMA fighters' contracts that if you have 1 fight or 30 days remaining on your contract with a company then it's fair game for other MMA promotions to make an approach. We won't be doing this very often, we can't afford to start offering stupid money to fighters no matter how good or well ranked they are, but we had an opportunity here to bring in a tough fighter with a good background and a high reputation, so we made our move and we got him,

As far as I'm aware we did not offer a base pay that was much higher than what ALPHA-1 did, in fact I'd be surprised if it's more than his current contract, but I think what swayed the scales in our favour is that we have more opportunities to fight, more interesting people to fight against, and the fact I offered him an immediate Light Heavyweight title shot against Curt Kitson.

Khru Duangjan is a 27 year-old fighter from Thailand who can fight at either as a small Heavyweight or a big Light Heavyweight. Currently holding an 11-1 record, perhaps an even more impressive statistic is that he has such a hard chin that he has never been knocked off his feet by any strike. A brutal striker with both his hands and feet, his ground skills aren't as strong as you'd expect for a fighter of his calibre, but there is very little chance of him having a dull fight.

British Cage Fighting's first ever TV show will take place on Wednesday, Week 4 of April when BCF: Warriors is taped that evening for airing at midnight on Euro Cable Sports 4. Highlighting the first show will be a big match from the Welterweight division, former BCF Welterweight champion Will Kane looks to get back to winning ways when he takes on the undefeated youngster Martin Cupples. There will be three fights on the show itself, with two other fights scheduled as prelims before the show.

The first preliminary fight will be in the Light Heavyweight division as Mick Curran (12-7) takes on William Harrison (4-0). Hard-hitting Welshman Curran is coming off a defeat via first round submission to Allen LeFleur, a fight that Curran himself is trying to forget, calling it the lowest point of his MMA career. Curran's solid chin and good boxing make him a formidable opponent standing up, but on the floor he's pretty helpless. William Harrison is coming off a dominant Unanimous Decision victory over Murray O'Hare in February, but admitted he was disappointed not to have finished the fight. The former army lieutenant is a strong striker on the ground and on his feet, but may need to go to a different area to beat Curran.

In the second preliminary fight we will see Ethan Sutton (4-0) make his BCF debut against Henning Olsen (12-5) in the Middleweight division. Sutton is a former NCAA champion wrestler who has been training for MMA since leaving college. Now 22, Sutton has developed a well-rounded game, but is definitely happy to show his wrestling skills off when the fight rolls around. Olsen might feel slightly agrieved about being bumped to a preliminary match considering he fought Tora Mizwar for a title contendership in his last fight, but his Unanimous Decision loss was not that well received by the crowd. His strong striking game will be what he looks for here, and his experience advantage might help him quite a lot as well.

The first televised fight in BCF history will be a battle in the Lightweight division between Chad Zoff (2-0) and George Astaire (10-4). 19 year-old Zoff won his BCF debut with a dominat performance defeating Buzzy Tuttle via submission in the first round. Although the fight only lasted three minutes we got to see various different aspects of Zoff's well-rounded game. He'll need it against George Astaire, the Scottish 25 year-old coming off a victory over Timothy Latchkey. Whilst the match was really bad, Astaire overcame a sizeable weight difference to outlast Latchkey and take the victory. Astaire is a judoka with decent submission skills, so he will be hoping to get the fight on the ground pretty fast.

In the Heavyweight division we will see former BCF Heavyweight title contender Harry Milne (41-8) return to action against Eddie Whelan (10-4). Despite coming up short against Stafford Alois back in January, Milne is still one of the BCF's most popular fighters and certainly deserving of a place on the company's first TV show. Milne will no doubt want to use his catch wrestling skills to get the fight to the ground, and his ground and pound techniques to finish things off. Eddie Whelan is coming off a loss to the new BCF Heavyweight Champion Carter Potter, it was an even contest before Potter grabbed hold of a guillotine choke for the victory. Whelan will be hoping for more of a stand-up fight this time around as his powerful strikes are what he brings to the table.

In the main event of the eveving former BCF Welterweight champion Will Kane (14-4) will have the opportunity to start his quest to reclaim the title when he takes on Martin Cupples (7-0). Kane was handily defeated by Vikram Sithalayan's insane ground game, and never got the opportunity to use his Muay Thai skills. He will be hoping to get Cupples in a clinch as often as possible and use his relentless knee strikes to inflict some damage. Cupples overcame tough veteran Mills Mullally in his previous contest, it was a tough fight but he struggled through for a unanimous decision. A former boxer, Cupples' punches are certainly to be feared, and a win here for Cupples would catapult him into the upper echelons of the Welterweight division.

Mick Curran (12-7) vs. William Harrison (4-0)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 1</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Harrison shoots in and gets a takedown straight away, it's only a single leg but it's still enough. Harrison throws some punches from the guard whilst also avoiding strikes from Curran, Harrison then moves forward and gets into side control. He goes for an armbar and has it momentarily locked in, but Curran just about pops his arm free. Harrison is still working hard on the ground and rolls Curran over to take his back, but despite getting both hooks in he cannot get a submission hold properly locked in. Two times he goes for a rear naked choke, two times Currant stops the arm going under his chin, and he manages to survive the round.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 2</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Harrison lands a good combination to start the round, but Curran lands a good jab in retaliation. After spending the first half of the round striking it's not long before Harrison shoots in and he gets a double leg takedown into guard. Harrison passes the guard fairly easily and is back in side control again, but his attempt at an americana is blocked. Harrison doesn't try as many submissions in this round, but he is able to take Curran's back shortly before the round ends, but runs out of time before he can try for the choke.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 3</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Another takedown starts the round, you can't blame Harrison for his boring tactics as it's obviously working. Harrison tries to land some elbows from the guard, then passes to side control where he tries for the armbar again. But again Curran gets his arm free, and Harrison fails at yet another submission attempt. Harrison takes Curran's back for the third time this fight, and Harrison goes for a rear naked choke but Curran defends it. Harrison really needs to work on his submission application. He seems to give up on it though, instead he just starts landing massive right hands from the back, Curran turtles up as Harrison keeps raining punches on him, and the referee decides to jump in and stop it! Harrison takes the TKO victory. Eventually.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 1</strong></p><p> </p><p>

It doesn't take long for Sutton's wrestling expertise to be shown, he grabs hold of Olsen and gets him to the ground right away. Sutton passes to side control with ease, and seemingly within seconds Sutton takes Olsen's back. Sutton tries to get the rear naked choke locked in but Olsen is able to defend it, but he can't get free of the hooks Sutton has locked in. Sutton goes for the choke again, and this time he gets his arm under Olsen's chin! The hold is in deep, and it's not long before Olsen is tapping out! Sutton makes a good start to his BCF career.</p><p> </p><p>

Lightweight Division</strong></p><p><strong>

Chad Zoff (2-0) vs. George Astaire (10-4)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 1</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Both fighters come out throwing a whole load of strikes, but they're all quick and small and anything that does manage to connect doesn't do much damage. Astaire shoots in for the first takedown of the contest, but Zoff sees it coming and backs away. Astaire tries another takedown but Zoff connects with a hard jab to the head as he moves in, so Astaire gives it up. The time expires and let it go on record that the first round of BCF: Warriors was not great.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 2</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Zoff connects with a good left and a nice couple of jabs to start the round, Astaire shoots in for another takedown but Zoff remains standing and pulls the fight into a clinch. Zoff backs Astaire up into the cage and lands some good knees to the legs, followed by a nice body shot. Astaire drops down for another takedown but Zoff blocks that too, then also an attempted judo throw from Astaire is blocked. Zoff is keeping the fight standing with ease and Astaire doesn't seem to want to trade punches. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 3</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Astaire makes a big move in the round by finally using his judo to get a trip takedown and get Zoff to the mat. Astaire gets half guard and tries to move into a more dominant position, but Zoff keeps him under control and eventually manages to scramble and Zoff ends up in side control with Astaire on the ground. Zoff decides he has no interest in fighting on the ground and tells Astaire to get up. Astaire tries another takedown but a lack of energy means there's not much conviction behind it. Zoff then connects with a barrage of right hands that drops Astaire to the floor. Astaire recovers quickly, and seeing this Zoff lets him back up. Zoff is able to land one more jab before the round ends, and the judges all score it 30-27 for Zoff.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Chad Zoff (3-0) via Unanimous Decision</strong></p><p><strong>

Heavyweight Division</strong></p><p><strong>

Eddie Whelan (10-4) vs. Harry Milne (41-8)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 1</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Whelan kicks the fight off with a hard kick to the leg of Milne, but Milne quickly responds with a great combination of hard punches finishing with a good right cross. Whelan moves in closer looking to strike, but walks right into a takedown from Milne that puts Whelan on the ground landing in guard. It doesn't take long for Milne to deal with getting past Whelan's guard and into side control, where he decides to go for the BCF Speciality Armbar! Milne's not known for his submission prowess but he executes the armbar very well, and Whelan has to tap out! A good return to winning ways for Milne.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Harry Milne (42-8) via Submission (Armbar) - 3:05 of Round 1</strong></p><p><strong>

Welterweight Division</strong></p><p><strong>

Will Kane (14-4) vs. Martin Cupples (7-0)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 1</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Kane misses a kick to the leg and Cupples responds with a hard right, only for Kane to come back with a series of quick shots. Cupples lands a jab, but for most of the remainder of the round there are lots of strikes thrown, and most of those strikes missed their target. At least they were trying. Kane finally breaks the deadlock of missed punches and kicks by landing a low kick, but shortly after that the round ends.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 2</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Cupples lands a right hand to start the round, but Kane lands another leg kick. Kane then misses a kick allowing Cupples to counter with a quick right hand. Kane lands a hard kick to the ribs of Cupples, followed by a stinging jab to the jaw. Cupples then dodges another jabs and floors Kane with a big left hand! Kane shakes it off but Cupples follows him down quickly to get into side control. Cupples unloads some hard elbows to the head of Kane, but Kane manages to deal with them quite well. Cupples then tries some punches but Kane blocks them with his gloves and manages to survive the round.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 3</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Kane lands another big kick to the body, but Cupples grabs a hold of him and uses his strength to muscle Kane up against the cage in a clinch.Cupples lands a hard elbow shot and a short uppercut that wobbles Kane. Keeping him pinned back Cupples lands a nice couple of left hands, and a crisp jab to the jaw as Cupples dominates the position. Kane manages to get free but is a tired man, he manages to muster the strength for one last big left hand, but Cupples manages to avoid it. We go to the judges, and all three score it 29-28 for Martin Cupples, who remains undefeated!</p><p> </p><p>

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/BCF/BCF8.jpg</span><p> </p><p>

British Cage Fighting will be back on the first Saturday in May for their latest show, and again the schedule has taken its toll on the company as there will be no title fight in the Main Event. Instead we will see what could be a battle to decide a future contender in the Middleweight division when Rob Baines takes on Alex Cole.</p><p> </p><p>

However the first fight of the night will be in the Heavyweight division when Russell McPhee (16-6) makes his BCF debut against BCF favourite Vic Millican (16-4). McPhee is one of the most physically impressive fighters in MMA as he competed in both bodybuilding and kick boxing for a number of years before concentrating solely on MMA. His strength and power makes his striking especially vicious, but his ground game is a running joke among Canadian MMA fans. Vic Millican is coming off a very close split decision loss to Rav Kapur in a terrific fight, but despite his loss he is held in high regard in the Heavyweight division. Almost certain to stand and bang, his rock solid chin and awkward striking technique could make him difficult to beat.</p><p> </p><p>

In the Light Heavyweight division we will have an international bout between Russia's Tikhon Diev (3-1) and Brazil's Gustavo Spagnol (4-0). Diev is coming off the first defeat of his career to Michael Bannon at BCF's first show of the year, in a fight that he was heavily favoured to win. Diev will be out to get back some respect and go back to winning when he takes on Spagnol. Spagnol looked hugely impressive in his BCF debut when he took out Crow Leddy in the first round with some impressive ground striking. Spagnol's ground and pound abilities are already being held in high regard by MMA pundits, and a good display here would certainly continue his rise in the sport.</p><p> </p><p>

In the Middleweight division we will see Piece Jeeler (5-3) take on Tuck Durdell (1-1). Jeeler tasted defeat at the hands of Ginger Beaumont during the first BCF show of the year, and he looked very unimpressive in doing so. Jeeler may well be fighting for his career here as the BCF management are not happy with the lack of improvement in his training since that loss. Tuck Durdell also lost, but in less comprehensive circumstances, to this show's main eventer Rob Baines. Durdell struggled with his stand-up game so he will be looking to do better this time out. One of Durdell's big positives is his incredible athletic abilities.</p><p> </p><p>

Also in the Light Heavyweight division will be a battle of fighters who have already won this year, those being Michael Bannon (9-3) and Allen LeFleur (2-0). Bannon, as mentioned previously mentioned in this preview, kicked off his year in great fashion with a victory over Tikhon Diev. Bannon used his very impressive ground striking to help get the unlikely victory, and will be hoping to continue his momentum here. LeFleur made a name for himself with a quick victory over Mick Curran with an Armbar. LeFleur is making waves at the age of just 18, his skills are well-rounded he's a big Light Heavyweight; many see potential for a future champion in him.</p><p> </p><p>

The co-main event of the evening will be in the Lightweight division, as undefeated Mal Beswick (4-0) takes on former BCF Lightweight title contender Seth Breen (12-1). Beswick made an impressive start with a quick victory in the very first BCF fight of the year, getting Jeremy Sproule to tap out to an armbar in the first round. A well-rounded if not all that well-skilled worker, Beswick is still young enough to develop into a top contender. O'Breen was literally centimetres away from an armbar that would have won him the BCF Lightweight title, but Jake Keane reversed the position to get an arm triangle victory. O'Breen will start his road back to another title opportunity here, hoping to use how close he came as some extra motivation, and with his ground skills being so strong it will take a lot to stop him.</p><p> </p><p>

In the Main Event we will see two fighters in different situations slug it out when local experienced fighter Rob Baines (27-10) takes on American import Alex Cole (8-0). Baines is coming off a very good win over Tuck Durdell in February where he was able to out-power the athletic middleweight on his way to a unanimous decision victory. Baines is a submission specialist who has a very good grasp of the rear naked choke technique, if it goes to the ground Baines may well be favoured. Alex Cole continues his comeback from a major knee injury and was said to be very happy to pick up a win over Tucker Plumm in his first fight for over two years. A strong boxer and wrestler, Cole is a tough customer in any part of the cage, and a win here might help his case for a future title opportunity.</p><p> </p><p>

Heavyweight Division</strong></p><p><strong>

Russell McPhee (16-6) vs. Vic Millican (16-4)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 1</strong></p><p> </p><p>

McPhee kicks us off with a leg kick that looks pretty powerful, but a body kick misses allowing Millican to land a flurry of punches. Millican shows little fear in moving forward and swinging towards the head of McPhee, he does miss a jab though and gets caught by a kick to the hip by McPhee. McPhee throws a right hand that only catches the gloves of Millican, he then misses a body kick and Millican checks a low kick, then dodges a jab. Although he hasn't connected much McPhee was the more aggressive fighter and probably took the round as a result.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 2</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Millican's corner tells him to move forward and "knock his f**king teeth out the f**king cage". So Millican comes out and does just that... sort of. He certainly punches him in the face a lot, sending McPhee back into the cage. Millican lands another hard shot and McPhee is down, with Millican pummeling him into the depths of hell. The referee finally intervenes to pull Millican away, he's the winner by TKO!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Vic Millican (17-4) via TKO (Strikes) - 0:29 of Round 2</strong></p><p><strong>

Light Heavyweight Division</strong></p><p><strong>

Tikhon Diev (3-1) vs. Gustavo Spagnol (4-0)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 1</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Spagnol lands a hard left hand, but Diev comes back straight away with a left hand of his own. Diev then tries to shoot in and get a takedown but Spagnol grabs him in a front facelock, but the real damage is done by some BIG right hands to the head! Diev goes a bit limp and falls to his knees afterwards and Spagnol is right on him to land even more shots! The referee jumps in and pulls Spagnol away, he's another TKO winner in quick fashion!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Gustavo Spagnol (5-0) via TKO (Strikes) - 1:29 of Round 1</strong></p><p><strong>

Fight Rating: Good</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Middleweight Division</strong></p><p><strong>

Pierce Jeeler () vs. Tuck Durdell (1-1)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 1</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Durdell starts off with a clean jab, but Jeeler does a good job of staying out the way of any big punches. Jeeler isn't really committing to anything, possibly to counter-strike, possibly due to fear. Durdell lands a solid left hand, but Jeeler does land a jab of his own not long afterwards. Durdell moves in close and grabs a hold of Jeeler, before lifting him up and SLAMMING him to the mat! The round ends soon after but a move like that should be enough to win the round.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 2</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Jeeler becomes a bit more aggressive, however his punching technique is poor and allows Durdell to avoid the shots and land quick combinations and jabs almost at will. It's an action-packed round but it's all in Durdell's favour, he peppers Jeeler with strikes from start to finish, but I'd have to question why Durdell needs this long to dispatch a guy I've fed to him on a plate hoping for a first round victory...</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 3</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Durdell continues to pummel Jeeler with counter strikes, but starts to become more aggressive and the fight is pretty good as both fighters seem to be looking for a finish. Durdell shoots in for a takedown but Jeeler gets out of the way in time, but Durdell is up quickly to score with a elft hand. In the final minute of the fight Durdell finally does what he was supposed to, obliterating Jeeler with hard right hands until Jeeler collapses to the ground. Durdell keeps on punching until the referee stops him and covers Jeeler up, giving Durdell the TKO victory. Eventually.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Tuck Durdell (2-1) via TKO (Strikes) - 4:33 of Round 3</strong></p><p><strong>

Light Heavyweight Division</strong></p><p><strong>

Michael Bannon () vs. Allen LeFleur ()</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 1</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Both men connect with some quick punches to start off, but it's LeFleur who makes the first big move, going for a takedown that Bannon is able to stuff. LeFleur connects with some quick lefts but his second attempt at a takedown is also blocked by Bannon. Bannon isn't being very attacking, seemingly letting LeFleur control the pace of the fight, but when he does he misses a jab and LeFleur lands a nice left hand.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 2</strong></p><p> </p><p>

LeFleur lands some more quick punches but Bannon strikes with two decent jabs in response. LeFleur is desperate for a takedown still, but Bannon still won't let him get it, unfortunately for Bannon LeFleur's strength ends up being a critical factor as he gives up the takedown and pushes Bannon against the fence. LeFleur then hits a BIG right hand and drops Bannon! LeFleur fires away with punches and Bannon takes one shot after another right to the head, until the referee jumps in and calls a halt! LeFleur takes his second win of the year, this time via TKO.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Allen LeFleur (3-0) via TKO (Strikes) - 3:25 of Round 2</strong></p><p><strong>

Lightweight Division</strong></p><p><strong>

Mal Beswick (4-0) vs. Seth O'Breen (12-1)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 1</strong></p><p> </p><p>

O'Breen shows some good boxing skills early on to land a three punch combination, but as you'd expect he is very quick to shoot in for a takedown, and Beswick can't offer up much in the way of defending it, so he's planted on his back with O'Breen in half guard. O'Breen goes into side control, looks for an armbar and gets it fully applied, but Beswick somehow manages to get his arm free just in time! O'Breen retains a dominant position and is soon going for the armbar again, this time Beswick can't do anything to stop him and his arm gets hyper-extended! Beswick quickly taps out, and O'Breen gets back to winning ways with ease.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Seth O'Breen (13-1) via Submission</strong></p><p><strong>

Middleweight Division</strong></p><p><strong>

Rob Baines () vs. Alex Cole (8-0)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 1</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Baines tries a takedown from a caught leg kick straight away, but Cole keeps it standing well. Cole then uses his strength to grapple Baines to the cage and keep him pressed up against it. Cole shows good clinchwork skills by landing small shots against the cage, not doing a whole lot of damage but still scoring points. Cole keeps him there for a long time but Baines finally dodges an elbow to switch the positions, but does little despite his advantage. Baines tries one more takedown from the clinch before the round ends, but Cole shows good strength and balance to remain on his feet until the buzzer sounds.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 2</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Cole lands a good left hand to start the round, but soon he is clinching Baines against the cage again. Baines drops down for a takedown but Cole avoids it and backs away, only for Baines to try another takedown which Cole also avoids. I wonder what Baines' gameplan is. Baines lands a solid left jab, but a straight left misses. Just before the round ends Baines tries another takedown which Cole avoids once more, not only is he almost out of energy after all these failed takedowns but the crowd, who had been supporting him as the local fighter, are turning against him!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Round 3</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Both men come out in this round looking tired, which isn't great for the fans. Or me. Baines throws some punches and shoots in for yet another takedown, and yet again Cole is able to avoid it. Cole catches Baines with a nice leg kick, but here comes Baines with another takedown attempt! Does he get it? DOES HE?! No. We have to suffer through another minute of tired, sloppy fighting with neither man doing anything remotely exciting, this wasn't a good main event. Alex Cole was given the fight by all the judges, I thought he won all three rounds but the scores ended up 30-27, 29-28, 29-28.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Alex Cole (9-0) via Unanimous Decision</strong></p><p><strong>

British Cage Fighting will be back on Saturday Week 3 of May with another of their highly enjoyable shows, and once again there will be no title up for grabs in the Main Event, the first time this year that they have gone two shows without a title fight. Instead we get an intriguing Welterweight match-up between undefeated Datuk Ong Ka Ting and Doug Hansen.

The first fight of the evening will be in the Welterweight division between Valdo Calamari (1-0) and Timothy Latchkey (4-1). Calamari makes his BCF debut at this show and comes over from Sao Paulo in Brazil to ply his trade in the UK. A good all-rounder with good wrestling and striking skills, aj just 21 years old Calamari could be one to watch in the future. And yes, his name means shrimp. Latchkey is making his return to the Welterweight division after an embarrassing visit to the Lightweight division. He missed weight, got tired in the first round, and ended up losing to George Astaire handily. Now back at 170 Latchkey will be hoping for a better performance using his catch wrestling skills.

The second fight of the night is also in the Welterweight division when Wes Hersch (1-0) takes on Wayne McKellen (5-2). Hersch is another fighter making his BCF debut at this show, and flies in from Lincoln, Nebraska to do so. A highly skilled amateur wrestler, Hersch has added a good deal of ground skills to his game despite starting his MMA training relatively late at 21. McKellen is suffering a bit of a career setback, he started off with a 5-0 record but has since lost his last 2. His most recent defeat came at the hands of Datuk Ong Ka Ting in just under three minutes as he tapped out to an Americana. McKellen may need a win here if he doesn't want to be the first BCF fighter cut this year...

In the Light Heavyweight division we will see a battle of Europeans when Dag Kreuger (3-1) takes on Murray O'Hare (3-2). Kreuger is coming off a difficult debut fight against George Laurent, the powerful veteran defeated him by TKO in 90 seconds. Kreuger will be hoping for a bit more success this time using his good wrestling skills to get the fight to the ground and unleash his vicious ground and pound. Murray O'Hare is a hard-hitting brawler from Northern Ireland who... hits hard and likes to brawl. He lost in his last outing to newcomer William Harrison despite some good takedown defence, but he was outclassed for the whole 15 minutes of the fight. Still, it's best not to underestimate him fella.

The next fight is in the Lightweight division between Jayden Karp (1-1) and Buzzy Tuttle (4-2). Karp made his debut for the BCF in March, but came up short against German Jochen Bellof in a three round war. Karp didn't get the opportunity to use his jiu-jitsu skills in that fight, and the key to winning this one could be how fast he can get the fight to the ground. Buzzy Tuttle is one of the most popular fighters among the fans for his friendly attitude and exciting fights. Not the most well-rounded fighter on the roster it's expect that Tuttle could struggle against the new breed of fighters, as proved by how fast Chad Zoff ran through him in February.

The semi-main event of this rather unspectacular card is in the Heavyweight division as top-rated prospect Sylvester Collins (4-0) takes on Perry Catcher (9-3). Collins was top of the BCF scouting list when they made their first binge of rookie signings, and announced his arrival to the company with a destructive victory over Howard Pursglove in just over 2 minutes, surprisingly winning with an armbar. A powerful striker, a powerful wrestler and a powerful ground and pounder, Collins has incredible strength matched with good training, and is widely considered to be a possible Heavyweight champion. Perry Catcher is the next fighter to be sacrified to the monster, but is still a step up in competition. Catcher lost a unanimous decision to Fritz Phipps in his last outing but it was a close contest, Catcher showed good takedown defence during the fight and is always a dangerous man to stand and trade strikes with.

The main event of the show is in the Welterweight division between Datuk Ong Ka Ting (6-0) and Doug Hansen (16-4). Malaysian Datuk made a good impression during his debut in February, just needing a takedown, a pass to side control, and an Americana to see off Wayne McKellan. Although a superb ground fighter, Datuk's striking skills could end up being his weakness in this fight, but his widely respected takedown abilities mean that keeping the fight standing is a hard task. Doug Hansen is a frequently angry Scotsman that has been practicing judo since he was 6 years old, and it shows in his high skill level. Having defeated Hans-Peter Schneider in the second round in his previous fight Hansen was hoping for a title shot, but will need to get through Datuk here if he is to get one in the future.

BCF: DATUK vs. HANSEN

Fight #1

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/BCF/ValdoCalamari.jpghttp://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/vs.jpghttp://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/chris_kotw/BCF/TimothyLatchkey.jpg

Welterweight Division

Valdo Calamari (1-0) vs. Timothy Latchkey (4-1)

Round 1

Latchkey shows some good strike defence before moving in to try and take Calamari down, but Calamari avoids it well. Both fighters do some stalling, some circling and some annoying their boss, until Calamari grabs Latchkey and brings him into a clinch, however Latchkey nullifies any striking he can do from that position. A dreadful round for fans, not much better for either fighter.

Round 2

After some poor striking attempts they end up in a clinch, and Latchkey works some underhooks before slamming Calamari to the mat. Latchkey gets stuck in the guard for the next three minutes, not exactly much fun to watch, and the stalemate only ends when Calamari tries to apply a triangle but that doesn't work. They spend the last sixty seconds just lying there possibly having some kind of trivia contest between the two of them, and mercifully the round eventually ends.

Round 3

Calamari comes out swinging for the fences which makes me a bit happier, unfortunately none of them connect. Latchkey lands a decent jab to keep Calamari at bay, the dodges a flurry of punches from Calamari and counters with a nice left. Calamari finally lands some decent punches in a combination, then a decent jab, but Latchkey fires back by connecting three hard jabs to the head of Calamari. Latchkey continues the good striking until the end of the round, landing several hard left hands before the fight ends. Thank God that final round was half decent. Latchkey took the fight from all three judges, 30-27 from two and 29-28 from the other.

Winner: Timothy Latchkey (5-1) via Unanimous Decision

Match Rating: Awful

Welterweight Division

Wes Hersch (1-0) vs. Wayne McKellan (5-2)

Round 1

After a period of feints and missed strikes it is McKellan who lands the first good shot with a clean right hand after dodging a jab, then connects with a jab of his own shortly afterwards. McKellan foolishly went for a body kick that Hersch caught and took him to the ground. Hersch's ground skills are far superior to McKellan's and he's in the mount very quickly. He goes for the BCF Speciality Armbar, and gets it with ease. McKellan tries to fight, he can't, he taps out and Hersch has a victory in his debut.

Winner: West Hersch (2-0) via Submission (Armbar) - 3:34 of Round 1

Fight Rating: Great

Light Heavyweight Division

Dan Kreuger (3-1) vs. Murray O'Hare (3-2)

Round 1

O'Hare starts off by countering a left hand with a right jab, then avoids a flurry of punches from Kreuger to land a left jab. O'Hare s avoiding punches well but it standing back and letting Kreuger attack, but Kreuger does eventually connect with a jab. However Kreuger misses again, O'Hare counters with another jab, but the remainder of the round is just the two fighters circling with neither one making the first move. So nobody makes a move. Yay.

Round 2

Kreuger's striking game is a bit tighter this round, he avoids a straight left from O'Hare and catches him with a jab as he moves in. O'Hare is able to land a nice punch and a good left, but Kreuger counters him with a sequence of jabs. O'Hare then misses a jab and Kreuger counters with a hard right/left combination, and O'Hare gets knocked to the floor! O'Hare recovers his senses quickly, but Kreuger is quick to dive in and gets into side control, and starts unleashing hard punches to the head of O'Hare! O'Hare is taking a lot of shots without offering much defence, and the referee pulls Kreuger away! He gets his first BCF victory via TKO.

Winner: Dag Kreuger (4-1) via TKO (Strikes) - 4:25 of Round 2

Match Rating: Average

Fight #4

Lightweight Division

Jayden Karp (1-1) vs. Buzzy Tuttle (4-2)

Round 1

Karp shoots in to try for a takedown straight away, and he gets Tuttle to the mat as you'd expect. Karp smothers Tuttle against the cage for quite some time as he tries to make his way into a dominant position, and after about two minutes of trying he finally gets into full mount. Karp goes for the BCF Speciality Armbar but Tuttle does well to not only defend it but reverse the position and end up on top. Karp tries to get a kimura from the bottom but Tuttle avoids it, and stands up to get away from Karp's ground game shortly before the round ends.

Round 2

Tuttle pushes the pace with strikes at the start of the round, connecting with a nice left hand but Karp dodges a right hand and counters with a series of quick punches. Both men miss jabs, but Tuttle lowers his hands briefly and Karp connects with a hook. Karp shoots in for a takedown but Tuttle sprawls and gets Karp to the ground that way. Karp tries for a kimura from the bottom using his jiu-jitsu skills, and it's locked in! But time isn't on his side, Tuttle just had to hold on for seven seconds... and he does! Karp looks annoyed as he walks back to his corner, but the fight continues...

Round 3

Tuttle agains comes out swinging in Round 3, and he connects with a good left hand, but Karp again counters a right hand with some quick punches. Karp attempts a takedown but Tuttle defends and keeps it standing, and lands a couple of hard right hands that land flush on the jaw! Karp then misses a jab and Tuttle lands several right hands to the body and face, Karp is showing he has a good chin here. Tuttle lands another right hands but misses some big swinging hooks, allowing Karp to move in and hit a couple of jabs. Both fighters throw bombs at the end of the round but nothing of note connects and we head to the judges. All three score it 29-28 for Jayden Karp, but Tuttle put in a hell of an effort!

Winner: Jayden Karp (2-1) via Unanimous Decision

Fight Rating: Good

Heavyweight Division

Sylvester Collins (4-0) vs. Percy Catcher (9-3)

Round 1

Collins comes out flying but misses a series of punches allowing Catcher to land a series of quick left. Catcher then avoids a jab and delivers a clean left hand. Catcher is backing away from Collins but it's working, he counter-strikes again to land a big left hand. Catcher lands a flurry of quick punches, then counters again with a couple of jabs. Catcher dodges a big right hand and lands a flurry of quick punches, then does the same thing shortly before the round ends. Catcher DOMINATED that round!

Round 2

It's more of the same in Round 2 as Catcher counters successfully three times early in the round to land quick punches that don't do much damage but are scoring points. Collins finally connects with atwo big right hands but Catcher manages to take them in stride. Catcher manages to land a counter crisp left, but Collins hits a jab shortly after. Catcher lands a good hook to the body and a jab, then another hook to the body and another jab which looks like it hurt Collins' jaw. Collins hits a right hand and a jab, but Catcher lands the last shot of the round with a good left jab. This has been a great fight so far and Catcher is 2 rounds up...

Round 3

Catcher starts countering straight away and lands some good jabs, but Collins moves in and lands a barrage of hard punches that seems to rock Catcher! He regains his senses quickly and lands a couple more jabs, but Collins is moving in for the kill knowing he needs a finish. Catcher lands some more quick punches but Collins responds with a good jab, only to walk into another jab from Catcher. Collins moves in and lands some heavy right hands and Catcher is knocked down! Collins heads to the mat too and starts unleashing VICIOUS punches to the head of Catcher at an astounding rate, Catcher can't stop them landing and the referee steps in! Collins has taken a victory from the jaws of defeat, he remains undefeated and this is FIGHT OF THE YEAR material!

Winner: Sylvester Collins (5-0) via TKO (Strikes) - 4:36 of Round 3

Fight Rating: EXCELLENT~!

Welterweight Division

Datuk Ong Ka Ting (6-0) vs. Doug Hansen (16-4)

Round 1

Well it's not gonna be easy to follow that. Datuk lands a couple of good left hands to start the fight, making a mockery of those he says he has no stand up. Hansen is the first to shoot in for a takedown but Datuk sprawls, pushes him to the ground and rolls him over to take side control. Datuk goes for the BCF Speciality Armbar first of all, it's locked in and deep but Hansen somehow gets his arm free. Hansen tries an arm-in guillotine but Datuk defends it and lands a knee strike to the ribs. Hansen tries the guillotine again but it's not working, Datuk tries an Americana but Hansen defends that well, and time expires.

Round 2

Datuk lands a nice jab that helps set up a takedown, which he gets and quickly moves into side control. Datuk lands a knee to the ribs and some weak punches before he tries to get into mount, Hansen doesn't let him though and tries for another guillotine that Datuk defends it again. Datuk lands another knee to the ribs and goes for his apparent trademark Americana (is it a Malaysiana if he's from Malaysia?) but Hansen has it scouted and stops him from locking it in and that's the last action of the round.

Round 3

Hansen goes for some quick punches and tries a takedown, but Datuk keeps it standing with a solid sprawl. Datuk then shoots in for a takedown of his own, but Hansen sees it coming and tries to lock in a guillotine, but Datuk keeps on moving through and gets the takedown into guard. Datuk moves to half guard but there's not much more action, he's trying to move to side control whilst Hansen tries to get back to full guard and we have a stalemate. Suddenly Hansen tries a guillotine from the bottom once again, and he LOCKS IT IN! Hansen squeezes with all his might but Datuk manages to get enough space to be able to breathe, and Hansen gasses his arms out. Datuk plays it more safely until the fight ends, not wanting to get caught again. The fight ends and all three judges score it 30-27 to Datuk Ong Ka Ting, keeping him undefeated!
