World Wrestling Federation: The Civil War (2002)

Recommended Posts

After a long while away from TEW I've decided now is the perfect time to get back in the writing game. I'm going with WWF in 2002, and the first episode of Raw will pick up the week after the famous draft between Smackdown and Raw. Most everything will stay the same with the exception of titles. The titles will be organized how they were months into the extension with each brand having a main event title, and new titles will be introduced a little early for gameplay sakes. The retirement of certain titles and the creation of others will be addressed in this post. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I enjoy writing it.

Smackdown

The Brand Extension

After years of operating as one entity, the World Wrestling Federation has been forced to fragment into two separate operations by it's own board of directors to give some stability to the company that has been essentially split down the middle by the feud of co-owners Vince McMahon and Ric Flair. Things looked to be resolved as Flair gave up his stake in ownership to face Undertaker at WrestleMania XVIII. Even with that stipulation the Board of Directors stepped in and announced that the company would be split into the brands of Raw and Smackdown. Flair would control the Raw brand while McMahon would control the Smackdown brand. Each brand would have it's own exclusive rosters and titles. The brands would also have four exclusive pay-per-views per year, while the big four would be shared by the two sides.

Championships

The championship picture in the WWF is drastically changing along with everything else in this brand extension. Instead of having one World Champion going back and forth between the brands, Raw and Smackdown will each have a World Championship to be defended exclusively on their shows. Raw will retain the WWF Championship, which is held by Triple H. Smackdown will be awarded the former WCW World Championship, which has been renamed the World Heavyweight Championship. The other titles that will be exclusive to Raw is the Intercontinental Championship held by Rob Van Dam, the newly created WWF Tag Team Championship, and the Women's Championship which is held by Jazz. The other titles held by Smackdown will be the newly created United States Championship, the World Tag Team Championship which is held by the team of Billy and Chuck, and the Cruiserweight Championship which is held by Tajiri. Expect to see the new titles have champions in the coming weeks.

WWF Monday Night Raw

Monday, Week 1, April 2002

Live from the United Center in Chicago, IL

Attendance: 13,789

Tonight marks the first Monday Night Raw in the brand extension era, and after the pyro and the welcome from the announcers there is surprising music striking up in the arena. With all the talk of the two shows being separated, the music of Smackdown superstar Chris Jericho plays, and the former Undisputed World Champion makes his way down to the ring to confront the Raw crowd.

Chris Jericho

Welcome to….Raw is Jericho! That will be the last time you pathetic fans get to hear that, because now the Ayatollah of Rock n’ Rollah has taken his tremendous talent over to the blue brand, Smackdown! But I have some unfinished business here on Monday Night Raw. You all know what I’m talking about. At WrestleMania I was robbed of the Undisputed Championship by that no good thief Triple H. Everybody knows I’m better than Triple H. I’m the best thing going in the WWF today! I’m better than Triple H, I’m better than The Rock, I’m better than the Rock’s Aunt Eunice! Tonight I’m am going to prove that because I am invoking my rematch clause against Triple H. I’m going to take the WWF Championship over to Smackdown, and Raw will be the one looking for a new championship belt!

The Hardy Boyz vs. Bubba Ray Dudley and Goldust

This tag team match will go a long way to decide who will fight in the first ever WWF Tag Team Championship match. The World Tag Team Champions Billy and Chuck are gone to Smackdown and they have taken the titles with them, leaving Raw without tag team titles. Rumor is that the first ever champions will be crowned at Backlash, so all the tag teams on Raw are sure to be gunning for that match. In this one Matt and Jeff Hardy showed their great teamwork against the patchwork team of Bubba Ray Dudley and Goldust. It was a hard fought victory because their two opponents are no slouches, but their great chemistry didn’t fail them and Jeff hit Goldust with a Swanton Bomb to give the Hardy Boyz the win.

Winners: The Hardy Boyz

Time: 10:21

Match Rating: C+

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the match Bubba Ray looks very distressed, and he grabs a microphone from ringside.

Bubba Ray Dudley

I did not want to team with that freak Goldust tonight! I’ve been typecasted as a tag team wrestler and I’m tired of it. D-Von is on Smackdown now, and it’s time I move on with my career as a singles wrestler. Flair, listen close. Do not place me in another tag team match any time soon. That was in my past. It’s time for Bubba Ray to show the world that I was the strong link of the Dudley Boyz, and I’m going to take Monday Night Raw by storm!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The camera goes backstage where Ric Flair is sitting in his office behind a desk, when Booker T walks in and Flair asks him what he can do for him.

Booker T

I’ll tell you what you can do for me Ric. You can put me in the main event of Backlash to face the winner of Triple H and Chris Jericho for the WWF Championship!

Ric Flair

And what exactly do you think you’ve done to deserve that honor? You lost at WrestleMania. Did you forget about that?

Booker T

Ric, you know me man. We go way back to WCW. You saw me dominate there, and you know I can do the same here on Raw. Put me in that match and I know I’ll surprise the world and become the new WWF Champion!

Ric Flair

OK Book, you’re right. I’ve seen you in action and I know there aren’t many who can hang with you. But you can come barging into a man’s office demanding things. That’s why tonight I’m going to give you a chance to earn your way into Backlash. Tonight you will be in the number one contender’s match for the WWF Championship. And you will face….Kane!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/RobVanDam.jpg vs. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/MrPerfect.jpg

Rob Van Dam vs. Mr. Perfect

RVD was drafted to Monday Night Raw, so that leaves Raw with the Intercontinental Championship. The champion came out to what figured to be a tough match with the always crafty Mr. Perfect. Perfect is up there in years now, but he still has the skill set that made him so successful with the WWF his first time around. He used some great technical skill that has never left him to get several near falls on RVD, but the champion’s athleticism was way too much, and after a rolling thunder he was able to connect with a 5 Star Frog Splash for the victory.

Winner: Rob Van Dam

Time: 9:30

Match Rating: C

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the match the fans expected the music of RVD to play, but instead the music of Latino Heat, Eddie Guerrero played around the arena. He made his way out onto the stage with a smile on his face.

Eddie Guerrero

Very impressive Rob. You beat a former Intercontinental Champion. Granted he was champion before both of us were born! How would you like a real challenge Rob? I know you would homes, that why I already talked to Ric Flair, and it’s mean and you, mano-e-mano at Backlash. And guess what vato? It’s going to be for your Intercontinental Championship!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The camera goes to the interview area, where Jonathan Coachman is standing by with Booker T.

Jonathan Coachman

Up next is the number one contender’s match for the WWF Championship between Kane and Booker T. My guest at this time is Booker T! Booker, what makes you so sure that you can defeat the Big Red Monster tonight and face the champion at Backlash?

Booker T

Seriously Coach? I thought you knew better than that. I’m the five time, five time, five time, five time, five time WCW Champion! What was Kane champion for in his life, like 24 hours? That tells you what you need to know Coach. Sure Kane can hurt people, but when the pressure is on you should bet on a sure thing, you should bet on the future WWF Champion, Booker T! Now can you dig that Coach?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Number One Contender’s Match for the WWF Championship

Kane vs. Booker T

Booker T looked very confident at the beginning of this match, but that confidence was quickly wiped away as Kane threw him around the ring without any mercy. Booker begged him off several times, but Kane would strike Booker even harder than before. He went to put it away early with a chokeslam, but Booker countered out and hit a Book End for a two count. After some back and forth action and several near falls for both men Kane grabbed Booker around the throat and this time hit the Chokeslam. Just as that happened Big Show made his way down to the ring and climbed up on the apron. With Kane distracted and confused Booker T snuck behind him and rolled him up. With a handful of tights Booker T was able to get the three count and a title match at Backlash.

Winner: Booker T

Time: 14:16

Match Rating: C+

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the match Booker T celebrated ecstatically in the ring, until Big Show climbed in and stared him down, forcing him to take the high road. Big Show then got up in Kane’s face as the crowd was very confused as Big Show is usually a friendly giant. Then like a lightning strike he punch Kane right in the head, followed by a thunderous Chokeslam. He then let out a loud roar as the crowd booed him heavily as he stood over the body of Kane.

Crash Holly and Spike Dudley vs. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall

This was a huge mismatch. Both teams were trying to show that they deserve to be in consideration for the first ever WWF Tag Team Title match, and one team showed that they deserve it much more than the others. Crash and Spike would get in on heart, but as they attacked the much bigger opponents they were dominated by the two leaders of the nWo. Nash hit Spike with a Jackknife Powerbomb at the same time Hall hit Crash Holly with the Razor’s Edge to get the victory.

Winners: Kevin Nash and Scott Hall

Time: 3:29

Match Rating: D+

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The camera goes backstage as Hall and Nash celebrate, and the newest member of the nWo, X-Pac is celebrating his stable mates victory in front of a TV. Then out of nowhere Stone Cold Steve Austin appears and gives a beating to X-Pac. He finishes by throwing him into a wall, leaving him down and out. Stone Cold then looks into the camera and addresses the nWo.

Steve Austin

You guys thought you were done with me after I slapped Hall around at WrestleMania? Uh-uh! The way I look at things is that I’m free from now until Backlash, and I’d love to kick the nWo right off of Monday Night Raw! This is my show, and I’m taking it back, starting with you three! I don’t care who I face at Backlash, but one of you is getting the beating of a lifetime! And that’s the bottom line cause Stone Cold said so!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When Raw comes back from commercial Paul Heyman is standing with his current client, the monster known as Brock Lesnar.

Paul Heyman

Ladies and gentlemen, standing beside me is the next big thing in the WWF. This is Brock Lesnar, and he will be the most dominating force the WWF has ever seen. You’ve seen what he can do in recent weeks, and next week on Raw you all will get to see him make his official debut. Be sure to tune in to see Lesnar tear apart whatever poor soul has to face him, because I promise you, it’s going to be a massacre.

WWF Championship Match

Triple H © vs. Chris Jericho

The crowd was very hyped up for this title rematch, which was given boxing style introductions, adding to the big fight feel. The match started off very slowly with both men trying to feel each other out and wait for the other to make the first mistake. Jericho gained the first upper hand of the match, using his speed and technical prowess to reverse a hold from the champion and catch him with an enzuguri. Jericho then went straight to work on the surgically repaired leg of Triple H. He worked that leg and Triple H’s back over for several minutes, a tactic that would make the Walls of Jericho much more deadly if Jericho could lock it in at some point. Eventually the match started picking up steam as Triple H started to make a comeback, and the more Triple H fought back the more the crowd got into things.

Triple H looked to make it more physical with a back suplex, but Jericho rolled out of it onto his feet, then hit the champ with a bulldog, followed by his Lionsault. It looked to be over but Triple H kicked out at the last second. Jericho started to look very frustrated, and went to lock in the Walls of Jericho, but Triple H powered out. He then caught Jericho with a knee to the face followed by a big spinebuster. This set up the Pedigree perfectly, but Jericho grabbed HHH’s legs and was able to lock in the Walls of Jericho. Triple H struggled, and the fans were screaming for him to reach the ropes. After being pulled into the middle of the ring once Triple H was able to get the ropes. Jericho looked distraught at this point. He charged Triple H and kicked him in the gut, then looked for a Pedigree of his own. This just angered Triple H and he countered, then out of nowhere hit Jericho with a Pedigree of his own and got the three count and the title defense. The show went off the air with Triple H holding his title high over his head.

Winner and Still WWF Champion: Triple H

WWF Smackdown!

Thursday, Week 1, April 2002

Live from Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, NJ

Attendance: 15,000

Smackdown opens up with the owner of Smackdown, Mr. McMahon standing in the ring. He welcomes everybody to Smackdown and quickly gets down to business.

Mr. McMahon

Tonight starts a new era for the Smackdown brand. As you all can see at ringside, that is the World Heavyweight Championship on the stand over there. Tonight kicks off the road to find a home for that title. We will be having an eight man tournament over the coming weeks, with the finals coming in six weeks at Judgment Day. Tonight we will have the first two matches in that tournament, then next week we will see the other two first round matches. Now tonight in the opening bout you will see Chris Benoit take on Chris Jericho, and later in the night Hulk Hogan will take on Diamond Dallas Page. That leaves four men from next week’s matches with nothing to do, so that’s why in tonight’s main event you’ll see those four men face off in a tag match, as Edge and The Rock take on Kurt Angle and The Undertaker!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First Round in the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament

Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho

This match featured two of the best technical wrestlers in the industry today, and they are no strangers to each other. They started off very cautiously, each man not wanting to make the mistake that would leave him out of the title picture. This played against what Benoit usually does though and Jericho capitalized and started to wear down Benoit, limiting his explosive offense. Eventually Benoit was able to battle back from the Jericho attack, and he went on a streak of his own with Jericho showing signs he was still fatigued from his title rematch Monday night. Benoit took Jericho down with a German Suplex, then headed up top for the Flying Headbutt. He lept off the top rope, but Jericho rolled out of the way, then connected with a Lionsault and was able to get the three count on Benoit to move on to the next round of the tournament.

Winner: Chris Jericho

Time: 16:30

Match Rating: C+

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the match Chris Jericho grabbed a microphone from ringside and addressed the WWF fans.

Chris Jericho

You all would have loved to seen me lose that match wouldn’t you? You just can’t handle the fact that Y2J has arrived on Smackdown, and Thursday nights will never be the same again! I may not have won my WWF Championship back on Monday, but I’ve got my eyes set on a bigger prize, becoming the first ever World Heavyweight Champion!

Cruiserweight Championship Match

Tajiri © vs. The Hurricane

Tajiri was drafted to Smackdown last week, and he brought the Cruiserweight division with him over to Smackdown. To welcome the Crusierweights to Thursday night a title match was made. The Hurricane has always showed that he is a great competitor, and he looked to take home the gold after this match. The action was very fast paced, as it always is with the Cruiserweights. Hurricane was able to hit the Eye of the Hurricane, but the referee was distracted by Tajiri’s manager Torrie Wilson. This gave Tajiri time to recouperate, and by the time he had he was able to sneak in a Buzzsaw Kick to the head of Hurricane to get the title defense.

Rikishi vs. Christian

A big point of discussion surrounding Smackdown is who will be competing for the new United States Championship. Rikishi and Christian were both left out of the World Title tournament, so they are looking to impress Mr. McMahon in this match and made get a shot to become the first ever WWF United States Champion. Rikishi toyed with Christian throughout the match and threw him around like a ragdoll at times. Christian was just quick enough to avoid the real heavy battery of Rikishi, but got stuck sitting in the corner. Rikishi then slowly moved in for the Stink Face, but Christian had it scouted and kicked Rikishi in the rear, then rolled him up, grabbed the ropes and got a three count.

Winner: Christian

Time: 6:43

Match Rating: C-

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the match Christian grabbed the microphone and had a few words regarding the US Title.

Christian

Welcome to the first Smackdown in this new era, and era that will be dominated by the most awesome superstar in the history of Thursday nights, me, Christian. All the talk lately has been about the World Title Tournament, but that isn’t where the action is. The action is surrounding the United States Championship match at Judgment Day. I’ve been told there will be four slots in an elimination match, and whoever is standing last will be the first ever WWF United States Champion. I am focusing all my energy towards getting into that match, then becoming the champion. That will be the first step of me taking Smackdown as my own. I will be the greatest wrestler the WWF has ever seen, and you’ll all see why.

The Zoo Crew vs. Billy and Chuck

The World Tag Team Champions Billy and Chuck faced Scotty 2 Hotty and Albert in this non-title match. The champions looked in trouble late in the match as Albert was on an absolute roll, then tagged in Scotty 2 Hotty who went for the Worm on Chuck. Scotty was then blidesided by Billy, who returned to his corner and got the tag. He quickly came in and took out Albert on the apron, then hit the Famasser to get his team the victory.

Winners: Billy and Chuck

Time: 6:50

Match Rating: C-

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The camera goes backstage where Hulk Hogan is standing by in his signature red and yellow apparel before his first round match against former WCW rival, Diamond Dallas Page.

Hulk Hogan

Tonight is the night that Hulkamania and all the Hulkamaniacs begin the journey back to the summit of the WWF. I’ve been WWF Champion on several occasions, but it would be too sweet to become the first ever World Heavyweight Champion here on Smackdown. DDP, brother, this show is titled right, because tonight it’s going to be a Smackdown. The red and yellow is back brother, and DDP, whatcha gonna do when East Rutherford New Jersey and Hulkamania run wild on you!?!

First Round of the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament

Hulk Hogan vs. Diamond Dallas Page

The crowd was 100% behind Hulk Hogan in this match, very excited to see him back in the familiar red and yellow ring gear. DDP did not look happy to see Hogan back to his old self, and he went right after Hogan at the start of the match, but nothing he could do could budge Hogan. Hulk tossed him across the ring with little effort and DDP looked very worried that he may be in over his head here. He eventually got things in order with a quick kick to Hogan’s bad knees. Page spent a long period of time keeping Hogan on the mat, stomping away whenever he could. After several minutes of the beatdown the fans started chanting for Hogan, and he started to Hulk up. Knowing he was in trouble DDP started chopping away at Hogan, but it just made him mad. Eventually he blocked a DDP punch and took him down with one of his own. He followed that with a big boot, then his Leg Drop to get the win and head into the semifinals of the tournament.

Winner: Hulk Hogan

Time: 13:06

When Smackdown came back from commercial Kurt Angle and The Undertaker made their entrance for the main event tag team match against The Rock and Edge. Kurt Angle had something to say about the situation though as Undertaker stood behind him warming up for the match.

Kurt Angle

Tonight is going to be a nice little warmup for your Olympic Gold Medalist. Me and Taker here are taking on The Rock and Edge, two men who can’t hold a candle to the ability I have inside this ring. This tournament is really just a formality. It’s just delaying my eventually coronation as the first ever World Heavyweight Champion. Whoa, whoa Undertaker, back off, I’m sure you’ll do good, you’ll just lose when you face me in the tournament. Don’t get mad big man, it’s true! Now bring out Rock and Edge so I can show them what’s going to happen to them if they face me.

The Rock and Edge vs. Kurt Angle and The Undertaker

This match featured four of the biggest performers in the WWF, and the crowd was ready to see these stars collide. They were all trying to send a message home that they would be the first World Heavyweight Champion, but it seemed like they were holding something back because they realized that next week is the show that matters for them. Angle and Undertaker showed surprisingly good teamwork as they kept Edge away from The Rock for a long period in the match, but when Rock got the hot tag in he absolutely cleaned house. He was able to hit the Rock Bottom on Angle and Undertaker, then went for the People’s Elbow on Undertaker. Out of nowhere Angle flew into the ring and took him down with an Olympic Slam. The match was then anybody’s to win. Rock was able to tag in Edge who whipped Angle of the ropes and hit him with the spear. What Edge didn’t realize though is Undertaker blind tagged Angle when he came of the ropes, and Edge was met by a kick and the Last Ride, and Undertaker pinned him to get the victory.

Winners: Kurt Angle and The Undertaker

Time: 15:03

Match Rating: C+

Shortly after the match it was announced on WWF.com that Michael Cole and Tazz have been replaced by Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler as the lead announce team on Smackdown. The new layout will see Ross and Lawler announce Raw and Smackdown while Cole and Tazz will develop their skills on Heat and Velocity.

Really good start will be reading, no predictions, would like to see them:D

I've never really liked doing predictions for TV shows, I always do them for PPV's though. Thanks for reading, if anybody has suggestions on what to improve on just let me know and I'll consider them.

That's cool, I kinda find it hard to do predictions for TV as sometimes matches are made in promos. The sort of 'I'll meet you tonight in the main event!' ones so I see your reasoning, I'll be predicting on Pay Paer Views and commenting as this goes along then :D

This is the format I'm doing Heat and Velocity in. The segments are mainly just recaps of what happened on Raw and Smackdown like there were on the real shows, plus some minor matches. Since those matches don't matter all that much I'll just do quick results for them because I really don't have the desire to get into detail on those and I'm pretty sure you don't want to read full matches from lower workers.

WWF Monday Night Raw

Monday, Week 2, April 2002

Live from the MCI Center in Washington DC

Attendance: 14,043

After the opening pyro and welcome to Monday Night Raw from Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler a very familiar sound is heard around the arena. The WOO of Ric Flair’s entrance music plays, and the owner of Monday Night Raw comes out to the ring to a standing ovation. He makes his way down to the ring and grabs a microphone.

Ric Flair

I just wanted to come out here and personally welcome you all to Monday Night Raw, and say that I’m glad to be here in Washington DC, Flair Country! We have a rockin’ show here on TNN tonight, and you all are in for a special evening of stylin and profilin. Tonight not only will there be the debut of one of the baddest men that has ever stepped in a WWF area, Brock Lesnar, but I am making two huge main events that will give us a glimpse into the two big title matches at Backlash this Sunday. First we will see the Intercontinental Champion in action as Rob Van Dam will take on the number one contender to the WWF Championship, Booker T! And to keep things even the WWF Champion will be in action, as Triple H takes on the number one contender to the Intercontinental Championship, Eddie Guerrero! Those are going to be some great main events, and now I’ll introduce you to one of the contestants in our opening match…Stone Cold Steve Austin!

Steve Austin vs. Goldust

Stone Cold was confident as always, but he was dealing with a very focused Goldust who is wanting to impress people to get a chance at some gold on Raw. He tried to take the crowd out of the game as he kept Austin grounded with his slow and methodical offense. He succeeded for a short time, but before long Austin was fighting back like a house of fire, and eventually struck with a deadly Stone Cold Stunner to pick up the win.

Winner: Steve Austin

Time: 10:04

Match Rating: B-

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the match Stone Cold looked like he was all business as he grabbed a microphone from ringside.

Steve Austin

I’m in the mood to stomp a few mudholes in people tonight, preferably in the now. Nash, Hall, X-Pac, I want to break a piece off of one of you tonight, and I want to know which one of you are gonna get the beat that you have coming to you?

With that the nWo appeared on the screen, and they had an answer for Austin.

Kevin Nash

Easy Steve, there are not going to be any mudholes stomped tonight. You know if you messed with the nWo you would be in no position to compete at Backlash Sunday. That’s why we are going to let you off the hook tonight. But Sunday Scott and I are in a tag title match with The Hardy Boyz, so it looks like you are going to take your beating from X-Pac here.

X-Pac

Austin! This Sunday you are going to get what’s coming to you. Nobody sticks their nose in the business of the nWo and gets away with it. The Era of Austin is coming to an end in six days, and nWo is taking this mother over, and there’s nothing you or anybody else can do about it!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When Raw comes back Ric Flair is settling in his office for the evening, when his door flies open and Kane enters the room. He gets right in the face of Flair, and without saying a word Flair knows exactly what he has to do.

Ric Flair

Alright big man. I know what it is that’s bothering you. You want a piece of Big Show don’t you? I can’t blame you, if someone cost the Nature Boy a shot at the WWF Title like that he’d be livid too. That’s why I’m giving you a chance at revenge Kane. This Sunday it is going to be you against the Big Show in a one-on-one match! And this week on Heat the fans are going to get a little preview. Both you and Big Show will be in singles matches on Heat and we’ll see how much damage each of you can do individually before you tear each other apart Sunday.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/MattHardy.jpg vs. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/KevinNash.jpg

Matt Hardy vs. Kevin Nash

These two will be part of the match to determine the first ever WWF Tag Team Championship match at Backlash, and their partners were ringside for the match as well. Matt Hardy caught Kevin Nash off guard and took the fight right to him, but Nash started using his size to slow down the quick attack of Hardy. In the blink of an eye Hardy gained the upper hand back and he went for the Twist of Fate, but Nash threw him off into the ropes. Scott Hall then took advantage and grabbed Hardy’s foot, distracting him. When Matt turned back around he caught a huge elbow from Nash, then was hit with the Jackknife Powerbomb and was pinned.

Winner: Kevin Nash

Time: 7:44

Match Rating: C

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/JeffHardy.jpg vs. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/ScottHall.jpg

Jeff Hardy vs. Scott Hall

After the previous match there was a commercial, and the tag team partners just switch spots as the remaining two men in the match would face off now. Jeff Hardy fought with everything he had to tie things up for the night between the team, and like his brother he was very successful early as as he dodged everything Hall threw at him. He was able to connect on the Twist of Fate, and went to finish it off with the Swanton. Just then Nash stood up on the apron, catching his attention and instead Hardy jumped down to the apron and knocked Nash off of it. As he yelled as Nash to stay out Hall rose back up and ripped him back into the ring over the top rope. He then was able to quickly hit the Razor’s Edge to get the second win of the night for the nWo.

Winner: Scott Hall

Time: 10:07

Match Rating: C

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The camera goes backstage where Paul Heyman is talking up his client Brock Lesnar before his big debut in minutes. Just then his opponent for his first match, Bubba Ray Dudley walks by and Lesnar locks in on him. Lesnar quickly took him down and threw him up against a wall head first, and let out a primal scream as he headed out to the ring for their match as paramedics came to check on Bubba.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/BubbaRayDudley.jpg vs. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/BrockLesnar.jpg

Bubba Ray Dudley vs. Brock Lesnar

Lesnar made his entrance, then Bubba’s music played, and he was slow to come out. He limped down to the ring with a trainer eventually, who plead him not to fight right now. Bubba wouldn’t listen though and went straight after Brock. Bubba unloaded with everything he had, but it didn’t really seem to phase Lesnar. Brock shook out the cobwebs and almost clotheslined Bubba out of his shoes. He then destroyed him for several minutes and hit a huge powerbomb. He then hoisted Dudley up on his shoulders and hit a devastating move called the F5 to get a very impressive victory.

Winner: Brock Lesnar

Match Time: 7:29

Match Rating: D+

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The camera goes back to the locker room where Stone Cold Steve Austin barges into the locker room of the nWo. He storms into the room, but the stable is nowhere to be found, the TV in the room then begins to play, and the nWo is now in the locker room of Stone Cold, where they have completely trashed all of Austin possessions. X-Pac is seen blowing his nose into a Stone Cold Steve Austin shirt. The three men then congratulate each other early for the victories they will have at Backlash, and their eventual take over of Monday Night Raw.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/RobVanDam.jpg vs. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/BookerT.jpg

Rob Van Dam vs. Booker T

These two very talented men faced off in the first of two main events for the evening. They were very equally matched through the majority of the contest, and it turned into a kicking competition at one point. RVD missed a big spinning heel kick, and Booker T capitalized with an Axe Kick of his own, but was only able to get a two count. The match continued to go in a back and forth nature for awhile longer until Booker looked to put it away with a Book End. RVD drove him into the mat instead and went up top. With Booker standing he went to drop a chop onto the head of Booker T, but he was able to side step it and hook his arm around RVD. Booker then lifted him up and hit the Book End to get the pinfall victory in a very hard fought match.

Winner: Booker T

Match Time: 13:40

Match Rating: C+

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/TripleH.jpg vs. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/EddieGuerrero.jpg

Triple H vs. Eddie Guerrero

For this match Booker T stayed at ringside to provide commentary for the match and to scout the WWF Champion Triple H. The champion looked like he was unprepared for the lucha libre style of Guerrero, and Eddie looked very good for most of the match as he kept hitting quick strike moves on Triple H, who wasn’t able to unleash his high powered offense for a long time. Guerrero made his first mistake of the match several minutes in, and Triple H was able to plant him with a spinebuster. He then took control and went for a Pedigree, but Booker T had seen enough and charged the ring. Triple H quickly ejected him from the ring before he could hit him, but Eddie Guerrero was waiting with his triple vertical suplexes. He then went up for the Frog Splash and connected. He pinned Triple H but he kicked out at two. Eddie was distraught that Triple H kicked out and grabbed a chair from ringside. He ran at Triple H with it, but he avoided contact and then forced it away from Guerrero. After a short struggle Triple H got in a gut kick, then hit the Pedigree to get the victory.

Winner: Triple H

Time: 15:19

Match Rating: B-

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the match Booker T worked his way back up, then attacked Triple H from behind. He set him up for an Axe Kick, but Triple H spun away from the contact and clotheslined Booker over the top rope. Booker then was forced to back up the entrance ramp as Triple H posed with his title as the show went off the air.

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">WWF Smackdown</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">

Thursday, Week 2, April 2002</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">

Live from the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, RI</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">

Attendance: 15,000</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Smackdown starts off with this week with the music of <strong>The Rock</strong>. Rock makes his way down to the ring to a standing ovation and has a few words for the millions and millions of his fans around the world. He talks up the World Heavyweight Championship tournament, and how tonight he is going to take out Kurt Angle and move on to the semifinal round to face the winner of Edge against The Undertaker. Then his attention turns to Kurt Angle, who he gives respect to for his in-ring ability, then tears apart for his personality. Angle heard enough of this and came out to interrupt The Rock.</p><p> </p><p>

The music of <strong>Kurt Angle</strong> plays and he stomps out into the ring and gets in The Rock’s face. He acts like he’s going to turn away and then takes a swing at Rock. The Rock was able to duck the blow and hooked Angle in for the Rock Bottom, but Angle used his skill to get out of it then hit the Olympic Slam out of nowhere, leaving Rock down and out just a little over an hour from their match.</p><p> </p><p>

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</p><p> </p><p>

Backstage <strong>Chris Benoit</strong> is shown walking through the halls, looking upset that his World Heavyweight Championship dreams came to such an abrupt halt versus Chris Jericho last week. He then runs into <strong>Christian</strong>, who tells him that he’s lucky he even was in the tournament, and says he’ll show him tonight why he could have been World Champion, but instead is going to be the first ever United States Champion.</p><p> </p><p>

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/Maven.jpg</span> vs. <span>http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/Christian.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Maven vs. Christian</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Christian started his crusade for the United States Championship last week, and even though nobody has been announced for the Elimination Match happening at Judgment Day, Christian acts like it’s his match to lose. Maven gave him a pretty good fight in this match, but the inexperience of the first ever Tough Enough winner showed and Christian reversed a move into the Unprettier for the victory.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Christian</strong></p><p><strong>

Time: 7:41</strong></p><p><strong>

<strong>The Hurricane, Tajiri, and Scotty 2 Hotty</strong> make their entrances for the upcoming Crusierweight match, but before they can get the match started the lights dim and a video plays on the big screen of <strong>Rey Mysterio</strong> in action in WCW. It then says that the masked luchador will be making his Smackdown debut next week!</p><p> </p><p>

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/TheHurricane.jpg</span> vs. <span>http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/Scotty2Hotty.jpg</span> vs. <span>http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/Tajiri.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">The Hurricane vs. Scotty 2 Hotty vs. Tajiri</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Last week on the first Smackdown of this new era Tajiri was able to defend his Cruiserweight Title against The Hurricane thanks to his girlfriend Torrie Wilson. Before the match Hurricane said he was putting his “hot girl blinders” on to stay focused in this match, and it seemed to work. He blocked out several distraction attempts by Torrie, but Scotty 2 Hotty couldn’t and was hit with a Buzzsaw Kick. Hurricane saw this, and when Tajiri wasn’t ready he hit the Eye of the Hurricane on the champion and got a big pinfall victory.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: The Hurricane</strong></p><p><strong>

Time: 7:17</strong></p><p><strong>

Match Rating: C-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</p><p> </p><p>

The fans instantly rise to their feet with the first few notes of <strong>Hulk Hogan’s</strong> entrance music, and the living legend makes his way to the ring, just one week after moving to the semifinals of the World Heavyweight Championship tournament. He grabs a microphone before his upcoming match and tells the fans thanks for sticking by him through the dark couple of years, but now Hulkamania is shining bright again, and the fans will be the ones to carry him to be the first ever World Heavyweight Champion. He then says he’d hate to be Chris Jericho, because Hulkamania is going to run wild on him next week.</p><p> </p><p>

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/HulkHogan.jpg</span> vs. <span>http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/Test.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Hulk Hogan vs. Test</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Test didn’t seem to be intimidated by the return of Hulkamania, and he went right after Hogan and beat him down for a few minutes. Hogan got fired up despite the beating and started to fight back against the very aggressive Test. Test then tried to take Hogan’s head off with a big boot, but Hogan ducked it, then hit a big boot of his own. He then looked around and saw his opportunity and dropped a huge leg drop on Test to get another victory on Smackdown.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Hulk Hogan</strong></p><p><strong>

Time: 7:49</strong></p><p><strong>

Match Rating: B-</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

This match was a rematch from last week’s first round matchup in the World Title tournament. This fight had a different feel though, as Jericho was trying to prove that he’s the top superstar on Smackdown, while Benoit is trying to prove he belongs in the conversation for the United States Championship match at Judgment Day. The match featured more great action like last week, but this time Benoit looked like he was going to come out on top. Jericho sensed this, and after reversing a German Suplex he went to remove one of the turnbuckle covers. Benoit became aware of this, and as Jericho tried to smash his head into it Benoit reversed and drove Jericho face first into the exposed steel, then rolled him up and got the three count.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Chris Benoit</strong></p><p><strong>

Time: 13:47</strong></p><p><strong>

Match Rating: C+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kurt Angle</strong> makes his way out to the ring for his first round matchup with The Rock with a huge grin on his face after hitting Rock with the Olympic Slam earlier in the evening. He grabs a microphone and gloats that The Rock shouldn’t have run his mouth since he’s not on the same level as the Olympic Gold Medalist. Now Angle will be forced to finish off The Rock and take the first step towards being the first ever World Heavyweight Champion.</p><p> </p><p>

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/TheRock.jpg</span> vs. <span>http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/KurtAngle.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">First Round Matchup in the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">

The Rock vs. Kurt Angle</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

The Rock looked very angry, but still beatup from the assault by Kurt Angle earlier in the night. Angle used this to his advantage as he put every hold in the book on Rock in the early going, especially focusing on the leg of Rock, maybe looking for a hold that he has been using with great success lately, the Ankle Lock. The crowd let Angle have it the whole time he was on offense, and were on the edge of their seat for the comeback they expected from The Rock. That comeback came to fruition, but it was short lived as Rock was favoring his leg very badly at this point. Angle took advantage of this weak point and locked in the Ankle Lock, but Rock was able to reach the ropes.</p><p> </p><p>

This set something off inside Angle as he became very upset that the match was still dragging on almost twenty minutes into it. He then put his straps down, a sign that he was going to hit the deadly Olympic Slam. He got Rock up and hit it, then pinned The Rock, but Rocky was close to the ropes and got a foot on them. Angle let out a scream, then went for it again, this time Rock slipped out behind Angle and was able to hit the Rock Bottom. He then set up for the People’s Elbow, which connected straight to the heart of Angle, and he got the three count.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: The Rock</strong></p><p><strong>

Time: 20:01</strong></p><p><strong>

Match Rating: A</strong></p><p> </p><p>

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</p><p> </p><p>

When Smackdown comes back for the main event of the evening, the second match of the night in the World Heavyweight Title tournament the cameras cut backstage where there is a commotion in the office of <strong>Mr. McMahon</strong>. <strong>Kurt Angle</strong> is in his office throwing a temper tantrum like only Kurt can. McMahon looked very caught off guard by this, and to make Kurt happy he finally announced the participants of the upcoming <strong>United States Championship elimination match at Judgment Day</strong> to determine the first ever champion. It would be <strong>Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit vs. Christian vs. whoever lost in the upcoming main event matchup, The Undertaker or Edge.</strong></p><p> </p><p>

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/Edge.jpg</span> vs. <span>http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/shaynes23/WWF/TheUndertaker.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">First Round Matchup in the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">

Edge vs. The Undertaker</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Last week these two took part in the huge tag team main event, and tonight their match had much more on the line. Edge came out firing, seeing his opportunity to cement himself in the main event of Smackdown with an upset victory over the legendary Undertaker. Edge didn’t mess around trying to feel things out and went straight to the heavy offense, but Undertaker just avoided the big moves and unloaded his slow but deadly offense on Edge. He showed why he’s the best striker in the history of the WWF as he quickly wore Edge down with a flurry of lefts and rights.</p><p> </p><p>

Edge looked like he was hanging on by a thread, but he exploded out of a crouch and hit Undertaker with a spear, but was only able to get the two count. He then motioned that it was over and went for the Edgucator, but Undertaker over powered him. He then went for a Downward Spiral, but Undertaker again was ready and got him around the throat and delivered a Chokeslam. He then forced him up and hit the Last Ride to send him into the semifinals against The Rock in two weeks on Smackdown.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: The Undertaker</strong></p><p><strong>

Time: 16:01</strong></p><p><strong>
