Keyfabe

Recommended Posts

Wrestling Spirit 2, the professional wrestling career simulator by Adam Ryland, has provided some of us with many years of enjoyment. However, my own little group of friends (i.e., me - heh) were of the opinion that one of the only things missing from this woefully underrated title was the ability to not only play match-maker/owner of our own promotions, but also to track our efforts whilst doing so...

Enter Keyfabe, Troy Perry's novel Excel spreadsheet application that breathes new life into this fabulous text game.

After enabling sheet macros, select your promotional roster from a choice of close to 600 D.O.T.T. era wrestlers and managers - many with their own special match bonuses, tag team partners, and finishers (for AI generated results). Or even let Keyfabe recommend roster additions for you!

After selecting your World and Regional Champions, fire up the Launch Promotion button. Keyfabe will then formulate and dynamically track your title challengers, title defenses, promotional rankings, monthly feuds, and suggested bookings for each of your shows; including your weekly television and house shows, plus the end-of-the-month spectaculars.

'Booked' matches are either played out using Wrestling Spirit 2's Exhibition Mode - with the player manually entering the results to the excel sheet, or by the spreadsheet itself determining the winner through a variable method.

Noted Features:

* National (40 man) or Regional (22) roster packages.

* User defined Company Titles (Singles, Tag Team, and Television).

* Possible 'End of Month Spectacular' World Singles and/or World Tag Team Title bookings (for outside/traveling champions) - as well as Special Attraction bookings, such as Andre the Giant, Haystacks Calhoun, Giant Baba and Ted the Wrestling Bear.

* Dynamic Title (and promotional) Rankings based upon monthly wins, losses, and managerial influence.

* An automated Championship tracking sheet for Regional Title Histories.

* Suggested Bookings (for house shows, television shows, and end-of-month super cards).

* Text-based Outputs of show results, promotion rankings, and roster listings for record keeping.

* Suggested Monthly Feuds (blow offs booked on end-of-month cards).

* Touring Schedule Generators (rather than sticking to Virtual Arena or specific geographic locations in Exhibition Mode play).

* Injury and Suspension Checks.

* Break My Hold Challenges and Unmasking Attempts.

* Promos.

* End-of-Month User Roster Manipulations (to spice up your promotion).

* Worker Progression Tracking.

* And much more...

"Keyfabe: Unlocking Progress to the Past"

Requirements:

* Microsoft Excel (created with Excel 2007, if that matters)

* Adam Ryland's Wrestling Spirit 2

* The Death of the Territories data (v3.5)

* Keyfabe Excel Package (v1.2)

Note: The Regional package is preset as Georgia Championship Wrestling. However, rosters, title names, NWA World Champions, etc. can be reset to whatever you wish.

Enjoy ... and Happy Holidays!

Just to clarify ...

This excel sheet essentially functions as an enhancement of Wrestling Spirit 2 Exhibition Mode (an 'Owner Mode', if you weeell), with Keyfabe acting as match-maker and record keeper in your own kayfabe-era promotion.

It pretty much rocks.

The entire package is created by Troy Perry (Socko on these boards). My only contributions were a bunch of requests. :) All credit goes his way.

Thanks!

<p>I've only gone a week in, and like how the whole program is set up, so kudos to Mr. Perry on that. I have much to learn, it seems. <img alt=":o" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/redface.png.900245280682ef18c5d82399a93c5827.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

I do have a question though, and I'll address it to either Mr. Baker or Mr. Perry to field as it is more of a preference question.</p><p> </p><p>

While I admit that most of the matches I've run in Exhibition Mode have been via the default Cornellverse database (approx. 250), I've run close to 100 matches combined with the 3.0 and 3.5 versions of D.O.T.T. in Exhibition mode. In either database, I've yet to see a countout victory or a draw via double countout/DQ, and disqualifications are rare in and of themselves even with strict rules enforcement (including via D.O.T.T.).</p><p> </p><p>

With that said, I've noticed that while using the quick-sim feature of Keyfabe, some matches will end via draw, countout, etc. I'd like to continue to use WreSpi2 to simulate the matches for the possible upsets, but the lack of non-clean finishes doesn't sit right with me, as it doesn't seem to really fit the era. How would you approach entering results into Keyfabe if simulating all of the matches vi WreSpi2--with all results as dictated via WreSpi2's engine, or leaving Keyfabe's finishes alone to better simulate that era of wrestling?</p>

  • 2 weeks later...

This is great. I'm enjoying it on it's own. Could you please forward along a request for two modifications:

1. A version without the traveling world titles. As in, simming the WWF once they left the NWA.

2. A version with three levels of singles titles--World, US and TV.

I realize #2 would probably require a lot of work, but it seems like it should be easy to remove the traveling world titles without messing up the program.
