The Mixed Worlds of Mixed Martial Arts

Recommended Posts

It was the early 1982. There wasn't such a thing as MMA. There wasn't the UFC, GAMMA or ALPHA-1. James Anderson among his friend Michael Sullivan were just two guys who loved to watch fighting. They weren't too good fighters themselves but they knew how to promote shows and how to handle business. They started to promote small fighting shows around Nevada. They managed to make a bit of money in the few years they were active in the small scale. When January of 1985 came, Michael and James decided that it was time for MMA to go pro. They started to gather people from around the world and by the end of January they were ready for their first event... WMAL 1: World Martial Arts League.

(Sorry for such a small backstory but I hope that someone wont follow the diary because of that. This is a game which I started with a few databases mixed up. The databases are SynVerse (A WMMA 2 database which I never finished), Dawn Of MMA and an edited Dawn Of an Old Era Mod. The game will have all the fighters from these databases so get ready for some great fights between real world and C-Verse fighters. The SynVerse fighters are pretty much there to have fighters in the start of the game and most of them are on their late 30s.)

WMAL 1: World Martial Arts League Preview

The executives of WMAL decided to hold an 8-man tournament for the event. The participants are from everywhere around the world. We have Americans, a North Korean, a Brazilian and a Bulgarian. There are several styles on the display here and the show will be held at the end of January. Here's a preview of each of the fighters on the tournament.

Kirk Bloss vs. Manol "The Smasher" Sirakov

41 - Age - 32

5'9 - Height - 6'3

215 - Weight - 260

"Boxing" - Style - Slugging

Prichard, AL - From - Sofia, Bulgaria

0-0 - Record - 0-0

This fight will propably be a slugfest. We don't know too much about the fighters but Sirakov is a huge fighter where as Bloss is a lot older and smaller.

Erwald Arnson vs. Chang-Sun Lee

36 - Age - 32

6'1 - Height - 5'4

205 - Weight - 185

Judo - Style - Widehan Yongdoja

Finnspång, Sweden - From - Hamhung, North Korea

0-0 - Record - 0-0

This fight could go to the ground as Arnson is a judoka. We don't know about Lee's style but it seems to be a different way to describe brawling.

Charles Braden vs. Derrick Buckley

34 - Age - 29

5'6 - Height - 5'9

165 - Weight - 185

Fighting - Style - Gigolo-style

Eugene, Oregon - From - Tomball, Texas

0-0 - Record - 0-0

What do we know about these fighters? Nothing! Buckley described his style as his own version of judo but his style is actually meant to just tire the opponent on the ground. Braden is just a street fighter who hopes to win even if he's the smallest fighter in the tournament.

Alexander Gould vs. Ricardo Costa

65 - Age - 22

5'11 - Height - 6'2

205 - Weight - 205

Boxing - Style - Muay Thai

Prattville, Alabama - From - Cachimbo, Brazil

0-0 - Record - 0-0

Gould is an old bare-fist boxer who has gained some reputation for competing at such an old age. Costa on the other hand is a skillfull Muay Thai boxer who is looking to make his break in this sport rather than in Muay Thai. He also noted us that his brother is also interested to join WMAL.

Quick Picks:

Q1. Kirk Bloss vs. Manol Sirakov

Q2. Erwald Arnson vs. Chang-Sun Lee

Q3. Charles Braden vs. Derrick Buckley

Q4. Alexander Gould vs. Ricardo Costa

S1. Bloss/Sirakov vs. Arnson/Lee

S2. Braden/Buckley vs. Gould/Costa

Final: Bloss/Sirakov/Arnson/Lee vs. Braden/Buckley/Gould/Costa

The night began with "The Smasher's" and Kirk Bloss' fight in a quarter final match. They're both debuting like all the other fighter. Bloss icame to the fight as the favorite but we'll see what'll happen. The referee of the fight was Daniel Browning.

The Match:

Bloss dominated the match most of the time with jabs and hooks. He even suprised people with a few flying knees. Sirakov had his part of offence too as he pushed Bloss to the cage from time to time.

Judge's Decision: All three judges scored the fight 10-9 to give an unanimous decision victory for Kirk Bloss!

The Aftermath:

What a lame way to start the night. Bloss easily dominated the fight and WMAL's announcer Luke Virtue came to the cage to interview Bloss. Bloss said that he was happy to get a victory but he apologized for the fans for bringing them such a bad fight. Bloss continued to the semi finals to challenge the winner of the next bout between Erwald Arnson and Chang-Sun Lee.

Judo - Style - Widehan Yongdoja

Finnspång, Sweden - From - Hamhung, North Korea

Prematch:

The next fight was between the Swedish Erwald Arnson and the North Korean Chang-Sun Lee. The winner of the fight will be set to fight against Kirk Bloss in the semi finals. Daniel Browning will be refereeing this match.

The Match:

The whole fight was just Lee trying to take Arnson down and everytime he got stuffed. Arnson hit knees to the head of the North Korean but they weren't enough to stop the fight.

Judge's Decision: All three judges scored the fight 10-9 to give an unanimous decision victory for Erwald Arnson!

The Aftermath:

The night continued with bad matches. In the interview Arnson said that he was very very disappointed for himself. He looked to finish the match but just couldn't. Arnson will fight Kirk Bloss in the semi finals.

Tournament quarter final

Charles Braden vs. Derrick Buckley

34 - Age - 29

5'6 - Height - 5'9

165 - Weight - 185

Fighting - Style - Gigolo-style

Eugene, Oregon - From - Tomball, Texas

0-0 - Record - 0-0

+320 - Betting Line - -410

Prematch:

No one is giving the 165 pounds Braden a change for a win. Buckley said before the match that he wants just to take a win. He doesn't care if he finishes the opponent, just a win is enough. Ole West is refereeing the match.

The Match:

The match started with a wild punch exchange. Buckley managed to take Braden down easily and he gave a lot of trouble for Braden by connecting big shots from the half guard. Buckley moved to side control and unloaded with big strikes and knees which were enough. The referee stopped the match at 5:28 giving Derrick Buckley the win via TKO(Strikes).

The Aftermath:

For the first time of the night the crowd actually cheered. Buckley was really ****y when he talked about himself which really pulled the mood down. Buckley moved to the semis and was the first WMAL fighter to finish a match!

Tournament quarter final

Alexander Gould vs. Ricardo Costa

65 - Age - 22

5'11 - Height - 6'2

205 - Weight - 205

Boxing - Style - Muay Thai

Prattville, Alabama - From - Cachimbo, Brazil

0-0 - Record - 0-0

+360 - Betting Line - -460

Prematch:

Costa comes with such a strong background in Muay Thai that Gould is a serious underdog in here. The winner will face Derrick Buckley in the semi finals. Donald Hughes is the referee of the fight.

The Match:

Costa caught Gould to a clinch right from the beginning. He kept punishing Gould and managed to cut him from the eyebrow. He finally managed to knock gould out with a big knee at 12:58 by a Knock Out(Knee).

The Aftermath:

Costa looks extremely happy and his brother comes to celebrate him. In the interview Costa says that he will win tonight and this match was just a preview of his skills. He will face Derrick Buckley in the semis.

Tournament semi final

Erwald Arnson vs. Kirk Bloss

36 - Age - 41

6'1 - Height - 5'9

205 - Weight - 215

Judo - Style - "Boxing"

Finnspång, Sweden - From - Prichard, Alabama

1-0 - Record - 1-0

+410 - Betting Line - -520

Prematch:

The betting lines really give Bloss the edge in here. He came with a much more impressive victory in the quarter finals. The referee in this match will be Donald Hughes.

The Match:

Arnson tried to take Bloss down as he knew that Bloss was a lot better stand up fighter. Bloss countered with a quality flying knee which rocked Arnson but wasn't enough to finish him. Bloss moved in to finish but Arnson managed to do a nice judo throw and he took Bloss down. Arnson began to unload from side control but got kicked away by a scrambling Bloss. Arnson moved in to try a takedown but Bloss' spinning back fist caught him. Arnson fell in slow motion like in the movies. He was out before he hit the ground! Bloss pulled an impressive win at 12:45 with a Knock Out(Spinning Back Fist).

The Aftermath:

Kirk Bloss continues with an impressive win and in the interview he said that he's really looking forward for the the finals. Bloss went backstage with his "manager" to prepare for the final fight.

Tournament semi final

Derrick Buckley vs. Ricardo Costa

29 - Age - 22

5'9 - Height - 6'2

185 - Weight - 205

Gigolo-Style - Style - Muay Thai

Tomball, Texas - From - Cachimbo, Brazil

1-0 - Record - 1-0

+440 - Betting Line - -560

Prematch:

I really dont know what the bet bookers are thinking. Both are coming with impressive victories and Buckley's ground skills may be enough to stop Costa's stand up. Refereeing the fight is Daniel Browning.

The Match:

Costa suprised the crowd by taking Buckley down and making his way all the way to the mount. Buckley turned and showed his back and ended up getting finished with a state-of-art rear naked choke at 7:12.

The Aftermath:

Costa bursted to tears. His brother ran in to the cage to celebrate with his Ricardo. In the interview he thanked his Muay Thai trainer and he promised to deliver a good final!

Tournament final

Kirk Bloss vs. Ricardo Costa

41 - Age - 22

5'9 - Height - 6'2

215 - Weight - 205

"Boxing" - Style - Muay Thai

Prichard, Alabama - From - Cachimbo, Brazil

2-0 - Record - 2-0

+570 - Betting Line - -720

Prematch:

This is just... This is just wrong to bet so much against Bloss' abilities. He's coming with an epic knock out which really showed his stand up skills. This should still be relatively easy for Costa as his ground skills seem to be rather good. This match is for the WMAL 1 Tournament victory and the referee keeping the order here is Ole West.

The Match:

Bloss kept Costa at his toes in the stand up but soon he was pinned against the cage. Costa kneed him to the chest and rolled a nice standing guillotine. Costa became the WMAL 1 tournament winner with a win at 6:57 via Submission(Guillotine).

The Aftermath:

Costa crumbled to the ground and his brother and trainer jumped on top of him. They celebrated for a while. Luke Virtue began interviewing him and all Ricardo could say was that he loved the opportunity to show his skills and that he hopes for his brother to get a change at the WMAL!

WMAL 2: Slow Chemical Preview

The first pro No Holds Barred tournament held by WMAL wasn't much of a success but this time they're back with another tournament. None of the fighters from the last event is fighting at WMAL 2 but they promised that the action will be alot better than in the last event. This is our preview of WMAL 2: Slow Chemical.

Tournament Quarter Final

Hui Yang vs. Vin Graham

34 - Age - 34

5'8 - Height - 5'7

165 - Weight - 165

Muay Thai - Style - Kung Fu

Galliano, Los Angeles - From - Newark, New Jersey

0-0 - Record - 0-0

They both specialise in stand up but Hui Yang is probably the better one of them. Yang is called a prodigy in the gym he's training Muay Thai. Graham has indicated that he will continue with the sport if it continues to grow.

Tournament Quarter Final

Ganelon Lamy vs. Gustavo "Argentinian Samurai" Bautista

36 - Age - 26

5'6 - Height - 5'7

140 - Weight - 155

Mixed Martial Arts - Style - Greco-Roman Wrestling

Ottawa, Ontario - From - Santa Cruz, Argentina

0-0 - Record - 0-0

This fight will be an all out battle between two small fighters. Lamy is possibly the best fighter entering the tournament as he has trained kick boxing and wrestling for over 25 years now. Bautista is an upcoming wrestler looking to have a good tournament.

Tournament Quarter Final

Francisco Watson vs. "The Highlander" Cliff McAddam

45 - Age - 33

6'2 - Height - 5'11

205 - Weight - 202

Wrestling - Style - Gaelic Wrestling

Columbia, Maryland - From - Motherwell, Scotland

0-0 - Record - 0-0

This will be a ground fighting war as both of the men are wrestlers. Watson works as a school wrestling teacher which should mean that he is a decent wrestler.

Tournament Quarter Final

Christopher Hill vs. Rickson Gracie

34 - Age - 26

5'5 - Height - 5'10

155 - Weight - 185

Jiu Jitsu - Style - Gracie Jiu Jitsu

Sunninghill, Alabama - From - Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

0-0 - Record - 0-0

Rickson Gracie is coming from the Brazil and is son of the legendary Vale Tudo fighter Helio Gracie. Rickson will be one of the biggest threats of the tournament. Christopher Hill on the other hand is a lightweight fighter who seems to posses a huge KO power in his hands. When he sent us a video of him training he actually knocked his sparring partner out!

Joseph Johnson vs. Michael Brown

30 - Age - 30

5'10 - Height - 5'8

190 - Weight - 185

Striking - Style - Wrestling

Lexingtom, Kentucky - From - Washington, DC

0-0 - Record - 0-0

This will be one of our alternative matches to give the tournament fighters time to recover before the semi finals. Johnson is a good striker but Brown's wrestling should be enough to stop him.

Kevin Fulton vs. James Armstrong

29 - Age - 30

5'9 - Height - 6'2

175 - Weight - 205

Bloody Fighting!! - Style - Striking

Phoenix, Arizona - From - Miami, Florida

0-0 - Record - 0-0

Neither one of them really have skills in fighting. The match will be interesting to see as compared to others it should be a total street fight between two talentless fighters.

Quick Picks:

Q1. Hui Yang vs. Vin Graham

Q2. Ganelon Lamy vs. Gustavo Bautista

Q3. Francisco Watson vs. Cliff McAddam

Q4. Christopher Hill vs. Rickson Gracie

I just decided to bring my old predictions winning award back. The winner of each prediction round gets to give 10 points to a skill of a fighter of his choice.

So if you win you can give 15 points to Hui Yang's High Kick power etc. You can also separate the points between many skills. You can also give the points to a debuting fighter.

WMAL 2: Slow Chemical

Tournament quarter final

Hui Yang vs. Vin Graham

34 - Age - 34

165 - Weight - 165

Muay Thai - Style - Kung Fu

Galliano, Los Angeles - From - Newark, New Jersey

0-0 - Record - 0-0

-150 - Betting Line - -110

Prematch:

Two almost equal fighters are set to fight here. Will Yang's muay thai take him to the semi finals or is Graham's kung fu the stronger style tonight?

The match:

The fight was extremely equal with both men dropping each other and trying to submit each other on the ground. In the final minutes Graham was dropped by a big kick to the face but he was able to continue fighting. Hui Yang secured side control and soon moved to the mount. He began to unload with big strikes and Graham tried to roll him of but instead he gave his back. Yang was able to secure a nice rear naked choke at just 2:32 seconds to go. Yang is the winner at 57:28 via Submission(RNC)

The aftermath:

The fans applaud for a good fight. Even if the fight was long it was still packed with action. In the interview Yang said that he's in top form tonight. He promised to give his best in the next fight and he thanked his trainer for helping him try the MMA.

Tournament quarter final

Ganelon Lamy vs. Gustavo "Argentinian Samurai" Bautista

36 - Age - 26

5'6 - Height - 5'7

140 - Weight - 155

Mixed Martial Arts - Style - Greco-Roman Wrestling

Ottawa, Ontario - From - Santa Cruz, Argentina

0-0 - Record - 0-0

-150 - Betting Line - -110

Prematch:

Two people with wrestling backgrounds fighting but Ganelon has a good edge with his background in kick boxing. Lamy is possibly the only fighter in the world who could be called a mixed martial artist.

The match:

Bautista took Lamy down almost immidiately and made his way all the way to the mount. He began pounding away and soon he caught Lamy with a big strike which left his guard wide open. Bautista fired a few shots and the referee had to stop the fight granting Bautista the win at 10:24 via TKO(Strikes).

The aftermath:

Bautista suprised many with his win. He showed great wrestling as he managed to dominate Lamy in such a fashion. Bautista moves to the semis to take on Hui Yang.

Tournament quarter final

Francisco Watson vs. "The Highlander" Cliff McAddam

45 - Age - 33

6'2 - Height - 5'11

205 - Weight - 202

Wrestling - Style - Gaelic Wrestling

Columbia Maryland - From - Motherwell, Scotland

0-0 - Record - 0-0

-160 - Betting Line - -110

Prematch:

Another match between two wrestlers. Watson is comign in as a slight favorite and he seems to be the better wrestler here.

The match:

Watson easily took McAddam down and worked his way to the side control. He began to unload with massive punches and took the victory at 2:30 via TKO(Strikes)

The aftermath:

Watson did a quick job here and advanced to the semi finals. Watson is the biggest man in the semis wchich should be a big help for him. He will face either Rickson Gracie or Christopher Hill.

Tournament quarter final

Christopher Hill vs. Rickson Gracie

34 - Age - 26

5'5 - Height - 5'10

155 - Weight - 185

Jiu Jitsu - Style - Gracie Jiu Jitsu

Sunninghill, Alabama - From - Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

0-0 - Record - 0-0

-140 - Betting Line - -150

Prematch:

Rickson is a Gracie Jiu Jitsu black belt while as Hill is just a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu. Rickson is the favorite here with his probably superior ground skills.

The match:

As predicted Rickson took Hill down in an instant. He worked his way to the mount which took him a few minutes. Hill showed some great ability in the ground as he managed to block Rickson's submission attempts and he managed to get out of the side control and he caught Rickson into his guard. Rickson was still the better fighter and he started to pound Hill with fast and quite powerfull shots which almost knocked Hill out. The referee had to stop the fight giving Rickson Gracie the win at 8:50 via TKO(Strikes).

The aftermath:

This wasn't a huge suprise as Rickson is one of the greatest BJJ fighters in the world. Rickson congratulated Hill for his ground skills and then he spoke about the dominance of BJJ. He is set to fight Francesco Watson at the semis.

Openweight match

Joseph Johnson vs. Michael Brown

30 - Age - 30

5'10 - Height - 5'8

155 - Weight - 185

Striking - Style - Wrestling

Lexingtom, Kentucky - From - Washington, DC

0-0 - Record - 0-0

-140 - Betting Line - -130

Prematch:

This match is a "classical" grappler vs. striker match. Johnson has to keep the fight standing and Brown has to keep the fight on the ground which should be easy to him if he knows how to utilise his weight.

The match:

Johnson managed to keep the fight standing for 4 minutes but then Brown decided to use his pure strenght and he threw Johnson down to the ground and secured a solid side control. Brown started to throw good elbows which were enough to convince the referee to stop the match. Michael Brown at 5:51 via TKO(Strikes)

The aftermath:

Michael Brown took an easy victory here. He possibly gained a place at the next tournament.

Openweight match

Kevin Fulton vs. James Armstrong

29 - Age - 30

5'9 - Height - 6'2

175 - Weight - 205

Bloody Fighting!! - Style - Striking

Phoenix, Arizona - From - Miami, Florida

0-0 - Record - 0-0

-130 - Betting Line - -120

Prematch:

A possible stand 'n bang match. Both are stand up fighters which should make an interesting fight. Armstrong comes with a lot bigger reach and more weight.

The match:

The fight was extremely boring as both fighters feared each other's striking abilities. They circled around for the most of the match but James Armstrong did more damage which awarded him a win via Unanimous Decision.

The aftermath:

This wasn't a good start for either fighters career. Armstrong seemed to fear Fulton even thought he was the bigger man.

Tournament semi final

Hui Yang vs. Gustavo "Argentinian Samurai" Bautista

34 - Age - 26

5'8 - Height - 5'7

165 - Weight - 155

Muay Thai - Style - Greco-Roman Wrestling

Galliano, Los Angeles - From - Santa Cruz, Argentina

1-0 - Record - 1-0

-130 - Betting Line - -140

Prematch:

Yang had a very very long fight in the quarter finals and he probably doesn't have too much energy coming into the fight. Bautista on the other hand had a quite fast fight in the quarters and he probably has more energy than Yang.

The match:

Bautista shot in almost immidiately but Yang's right hand caught him and Bautista fell to the ground. Yang mounted Bautista. He began pounding Bautista but the strikes were pretty useless as they were blocked by Bautista. Yang tried to pull out an armbar but Bautista managed to counter it and he actually got a side control. Yang scrambled and got back up. Bautista stood up too and they began exchancing strikes. Yang caught Bautista hard and Bautista was down again. Yang kneeled next to Bautista and began to throw hammerfists but was soon sucked into half guard. Bautista tried his luck and tried to get a guillotine choke. He got it fully applied and Yang tried to get away from it but was unable. Bautista takes the win at 16:12 via Submission(Guillotine)

The aftermath:

Bautista was knocked down twice but was still able to pull the victory. He moves to the finals to fight against either Rickson Gracie or Francisco Watson.

-110 - Betting Line - -160

Prematch:

A guaranteed ground war as the wrestler Francisco Watson takes on Rickson Gracie for a spot at the WMAL 2 tournament finals. Rickson is the fan favorite here with his nice Gracie Jiu Jitsu moves.

The match:

Rickson suprised no one when he decided to shoot in almost immidiately. He took Watson down and got to the side control from where he moved to the mount. He tried to ensnare an armbar but Watson defended it and also stacked up Rickson and gained a good side control. Rickson scrambled and got to control Watson from the side. He locked in the arm triangle but somehow Watson managed to get away from it after being choke for ten seconds. Rickson looked frustrated and he tried to take the back of Watson. He succeed and finished the match with a good rear naked choke. Winning and moving to the finals at 8:18 via Submission(RNC)... Rickson Gracie!

Bookers have great expectations on Hill as they gave him the same odds as for Sirakov. The match is expected to go to the ground as Hill definitely doesn't want to stay standing here!

Hermansson is coming of as the clear favorite in here. He has two impressive wins as he finished his opponent in his first MMA match in just about a minute and his second fight of the career also ended in under a minute. Prematch:

Big height and weight difference between these two. Sirakov is coming of a good TKO victory where as Lee is coming of a submission after being dominated for good

25 minutes.

The match:

Sirakov was able to take Lee down but Lee was able to recover his wits and get up. They began trading punches for a good 25 minutes. Armstrong is coming of a win and has a good size advantage. Graham has to be in his top game to take the win. This match is expected to be a good striking match as they're both stand up fighters.

The match:

A quite decent fight which included two very winded up people knocking each other down and trying to finish each other off. Neither one succeed but Graham was the better one taking the win via Unanimous Decision

The aftermath:

Graham took the win by winning the knock downs 5-3. Neither one was really great but Graham also showed some ground fighting skills.

Co-Main Event

Openweight match

Gustavo "Argentinian Samurai" Bautista vs. Kirk Bloss

27 - Age - 42

5'7 - Height - 5'9

155 - Weight - 215

Greco-Roman Wrestling - Style - "Boxing"

Santa Cruz, Argentina - From - Prichard, Alabama

2-1 - Record - 2-1

-150 - Betting Line - -140

Prematch:

The runner ups take on each other. Bautista's wrestling background is a huge advantage for him and if Bloss doesn't have a quality takedown defence he will lose. Bautista is the slight favorite according to the odds.

The match:

As expected Bautista tried to take Bloss down. As I said he tried. Bloss managed to stop 4 of the takedowns and after 17 minutes he finished Bautista off with a beutifull 1-2-3 combo. Right hook, Left straight and a Right Uppercut was enough to stop Bautista to his tracks. Bloss won the fight via TKO(Strikes) at 17:16

The aftermath:

A slight upset for us at the WMAL as Bloss said that he'll retire after this one. When interviewed after the match he said that the best things he has done in his life are his matches at the WMAL. He got of the arena with huge cheers from the

crowd.

260 - Weight - 265

Slugging - Style - Oil Rig Boxing

Sofia, Bulgaria - From - Oslo, Norway

2-1 - Record - 3-0

+310 - Betting Line - -390

Prematch:

Two huge men taking on each other. Hermanssons three last matches have been great from him and that's why he is a huge fan favorite in here. The match should be between Sirakov's right against Hermansson's right and left!

The match:

Sirakov missed his first punch (a HUGE haymaker) and Hermansson took his change. His right hand hit Sirakov three times to the face and Sirakov was down. Hermansson followed him to the ground, mounted him and started to throw huge shots! The referee stopped the fight awarding Hermansson the tournament victory at 1:13 via TKO(Strikes)

The aftermath:

"The Oil Guy" had a huge tournament! He won all his matches and only his semi final match was over two minutes. Sirakov had a good tournament for him as he showed that his loss at WMAL 1 wasn't anything other than bad luck!

WMAL 5: In The Ghetto Preview

Saturday of week 4, July 1985

After gathering a crowd of 214 in their last event WMAL is ready to expand. You can actually see adverts about the events in the streets of Las Vegas. To honor that they bring you a superfight between Ricardo Costa and Rickson Gracie. This event will also hold a tournament with returning fighters and even some new ones!

Tournament Quarter Final

Mel Presljic vs. Sebastian Oster

39 - Age - 32

6'9 - Height - 6'4

320 - Weight - 220

Slobbering - Style - Boxing

Pragersko, Slovenia - From - Ulm, Germany

1-0 - Record - 1-0

Presljic is easily the biggest man to step into the cage. He is 6'9 and colossal in every other possible way. Oster isn't a small man either but compared to Presljic he's just mere midget. Both men won their first match which were held at the same small event in Germany so they know each others style. Presljic took his win by using his huge size to pin the opponent to the ground where as Oster took the win with a punch that knocked his opponent out.

Tournament Quarter Final

Derrick Buckley vs. Hui Yang

30 - Age - 35

5'9 - Height - 5'8

185 - Weight - 165

Gigolo-style - Style - Muay Thai

Tomball, Texas - From - Galliano, Los Angeles

1-1 - Record - 1-1

Both men are semi finalists from past WMAL events. Buckley got to the semis at WMAL 1 where as Yang got to the semis at WMAL 2. Yang told us that it was a huge disappointment for him to lose at WMAL 2. He is a great Muay Thai fighter but he hasn't show much of those abilities. Buckley on the other hand is a ground fighter and will propably take the fight to ground if possible.

Tournament Quarter Final

Mantas Andreyev vs. Shuuto Katagiri

28 - Age - 36

6'1 - Height - 5'8

205 - Weight - 165

Sambo - Style - Judo

Yekaterinburg, Russia - From - Newark, New Jersey

0-0 - Record - 2-1

Shuuto was in the semi finals of WMAL 3 where he lost to the winner of the tournament, Kenneth Boomer. Andreyev is a legend in sambo and is known worldwide. He will be one of the biggest favorites of the tournament.

Tournament Quarter Final

"The Man of Honor" Adilson Costa vs. Hudson "Big Hud" Donohoe

20 - Age - 38

6'2 - Height - 6'6

185 - Weight - 280

Muay Thai - Style - Big Bad Punishment

Cachimbo, Brazil - From - Los Angeles, California

1-1 - Record - 1-1

Adilson is the brother of the WMAL 1 winner Ricardo Costa. He was as succesfull in his first tournament as he lost in the semi finals to Frank Walters. Hudson also lost to Walters but he lost in the first round so we could've seen this fight in WMAL 3 if Hudson would've won.

Co-Main Event of the Night

Kenneth "The Boom" Boomer vs. Frank Walters

39 - Age - 39

6'5 - Height - 5'8

275 - Weight - 175

Street Fightin' - Style - Wrestling

New York, New York - From - Atlanta, Georgia

4-0 - Record - 2-1

This is a rematch from the WMAL 3. Boomer literally destroyed Walters but this time Frank says that he's back with a revenge. Boomer holds possibly the hardest hits in the whole business where as Walters is a good wrestler with good submission skills.

Main Event of the Night

Ricardo Costa vs. Rickson Gracie

23 - Age - 26

6'2 - Height - 5'10

205 - Weight - 185

Muay Thai - Style - Gracie Jiu-Jitsu

Cachimbo, Brazil - From - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

3-0 - Record - 3-0

Biggest fight of the WMAL this far. The two greatest Brazilian fighters in the world face off. Costa is a Muay Thai fighter who destroyed the very first WMAL tournament with his knees and impressive submission skills. Gracie is from the legendary Gracie family and he is possibly the greatest ground fighter in the whole world. He destoyed his competition at the WMAL 2 tournament faster than any of the other tournament winners.

WMAL 5: In The Ghetto

Before the show the executives of WMAL informed that the rules of the fights were changed for atleast this event. The fights will last for 4 rounds which each last 15 minutes. There's 1 minute breaks between the rounds and if the fight lasts for 4 rounds, 3 judges will use the 10-point must judging to give us the possible winner.

Tournament Quarter Final

Mel Presljic vs. Sebastian Oster

39 - Age - 32

6'9 - Height - 6'4

320 - Weight - 220

Slobbering - Style - Boxing

Pragersko, Slovenia - From - Ulm, Germany

1-0 - Record - 1-0

+140 - Betting Line - -180

The match:

Oster started swinging wildly after a minute of circling. He caught Presljic with a good left hook and knocked him down. Presljic recovers his withs quickly but doesn't get up quick enough and Oster gets to half guard. Presljic began scrambling and got up rather quick for a man of his size. They begin striking again but this time Presljic is extremely defensive and doesn't let Oster use his striking power. They circle more and more and finally Oster gets pissed off. Oster threw a series of jabs and as Presljic backed off, Oster charged with a flying knee which caught Presljic right on the chin and knocked him out! Oster won the fight at 14:43 of Round 1 via Knock Out(Flying Knee)

The aftermath:

Possibly the highest flying knee in the history of striking. This was a huge victory for Oster and a big set back for Presljic. Oster moves to the semis.

Tournament Quarter Final

Derrick Buckley vs. Hui Yang

30 - Age - 35

5'9 - Height - 5'8

185 - Weight - 165

Gigolo-style - Style - Muay Thai

Tomball, Texas - From - Galliano, Los Angeles

1-1 - Record - 1-1

-160 - Betting Line - -130

The match:

The first round was dominated by Buckley who kept Yang down for almost the whole round. We saw no strikes or submission attempts from neither one on the ground. The second round started with Buckley's huge slam. Yang was clearly rocked by it but he survived and managed to pull guard. From there began a battle between the two as Buckley threw punches and tried to move to side control and Yang tried to submit him. Yang tried to catch Buckley with an kimura and managed to sweep him. Yang exploded from the mount and threw big rights but his lack of ground experience showed and Buckley managed to stand up. Buckley took him down, worked his way to the back and tries to secure a rear naked choke. Yang managed to roll out of it as Buckley forgot to get hooks sinked in. Yang tried to stand up but Buckley kept him firmly in his guard and secured a nice triangle choke victory! Buckley won at 13:31 of round 2 via Submission(Triangle Choke)

The aftermath:

Buckley showed his ground skills and secured a firm win with an impressive triangle choke. He moves to the semis to take on Sebastian Oster.

Tournament Quarter Final

Mantas Andreyev vs. Shuuto Katagiri

28 - Age - 36

6'1 - Height - 5'8

205 - Weight - 165

Sambo - Style - Judo

Yekaterinburg, Russia - From - Newark, New Jersey

0-0 - Record - 2-1

+180 - Betting Line - -230

The match:

Mantas started by pushing Katagiri towards the fence. He used dirty boxing and elbows to score points. Katagiri pushed him away and began to strike with different combinations. The strikes are ineffective but they were used to set up a Judo throw attempt which was just about blocked by Andreyev who pushed Katagiri again against the cage. Andreyev threw occasional strikes to show some activity for the referee but after a few minutes the ref decided to seperate them. Katagiri threw a jab which was countered by Andreyev to pull Katagiri against the fence. He tried to take Andreyev down but was suprised by a tight Standing Guillotine! The pressure was too much and Katagiri scored a victory at 9:20 of round 1 via Submission(Guillotine)

The aftermath:

Impressive submission skills from the Judoka. He is going to the semis to face of the winner of the match between Adilson Costa and Hudson Donohoe.

Tournament Quarter Final

"The Man of Honor" Adilson Costa vs. Hudson "Big Hud" Donohoe

20 - Age - 38

6'2 - Height - 6'6

185 - Weight - 280

Muay Thai - Style - Big Bad Punishment

Cachimbo, Brazil - From - Los Angeles, California

1-1 - Record - 1-1

-270 - Betting Line - +210

The match:

Adilson started with nice leg kicks which were followed by a stopped takedown attempt. They begin trading punches. Costa used good counter punching to score hits and out of nowhere he shoots in. In a blink of an eye Donohoe finds himself from the ground. Costa used his BJJ skills to move right to the mount. He immidiately sinked in an armbar and Hudson had to tap out! Costa won at 7:03 of round 1 via Submission(Armbar).

The aftermath:

Costa made his way to the semis with a lot better showing of skills than in the last time. Will Costa take the tournament win like his brother?

Tournament Semi Final

Derrick Buckley vs. Sebastian Oster

30 - Age - 32

5'9 - Height - 6'4

185 - Weight - 220

Gigolo-style - Style - Boxing

Tomball, Texas - From - Ulm, Germany

2-1 - Record - 2-0

+190 - Betting Line - -250

The match:

They began trading strikes but the experience of Oster is really showing in here. As Buckley threw a loose jab Oster used his head movement to dodge it and he countered with a huge overhand right. Buckley crumbled to the ground and he was clearly out of his senses. The referee awarded the win for Oster at 3:40 of round 1 via Knock Out(Punch).

The aftermath:

Oster's striking is really solid. Buckley didn't land a punch where as Oster really punished him with quality strikes. Oster moved to the finals.

Tournament Semi Final

"The Man of Honor" Adilson Costa vs. Shuuto Katagiri

20 - Age - 36

-140 - Betting Line - -140

The match:

The whole fight was spent on the ground. In the end of the second round Katagiri managed to sweep Costa and got to the side control. Costa tried to get away by scrambling but out of nowhere Katagiri pulled an armbar to score the victory at 13:16 of round 2 via Submission(Armbar)

The aftermath:

Costa once again failed at the semis. Katagiri's Judo is just too much for Costa as he moves to the finals to take on Sebastian Oster!

Tournament Final

Sebastian Oster vs. Shuuto Katagiri

32 - Age - 36

6'4 - Height - 5'8

220 - Weight - 165

Boxing - Style - Judo

Ulm, Germany - From - Newark, New Jersey

3-0 - Record - 4-1

+260 - Betting Line - -330

The match:

The whole first round was just about Oster being taken down. Katagiri took the round easily. The second round started by Oster countering Katagiri's takedown attempt with a huge right hook to the chin. Katagiri managed to stay standing but he had to back off a bit to clear his head. Katagiri shooted again and this time Oster stuffed him and started to unload punches as Katagiri was in a turtle-like position. Katagiri scrambled up and shooted again. This time Oster was more than ready and countered it with a barrage of right hands. Katagiri crumbled to the ground and Oster mounted him. He began to throw punches but Katagiri managed to handle them well. Katagiri managed to get a leg free and pulled half guard. He attempted to grab an arm of Oster from the bottom of the half guard. A straight armbar was applied and Oster had to tap out! Shuuto Katagiri won the tournament at 13:45 of round 2 via Submission(Armbar).

The aftermath:

Katagiri took a beating in the second round but was to deal with it and finally he managed to get the submission win that was expected from him!

Fighters leaving

A group of WMAL fighters decided to break their contracts with WMAL after getting in trouble with the officials of WMAL. The following fighters wont be seen in WMAL anymore and possibly they quit MMA at the same moment as it's impossible to find matches at the moment! The quitting fighters are Erwald Arnson, Christopher Hill, Hudson Donohoe, Mel Presljic and most of all Kenneth Boomer! Frank Walters also indicated that he isn't too fond to MMA but promised to give a one last show for the fans!
