TOP 10 STORIES OF "THE LAMBDEN ERA"

Ever since Simon Lambden took over the UFC's presidential role back in January 2011, fans have been treated to the best fights, fighters and moments in the sport. With UFC 150 fast approaching, Blurcat will run down the top 10 stories and moments from Lambden's reign in charge.

10 - The Rise of Arinori Funibashi

When unknown, 0-0 Japanese fighter Arinori Funibashi signed for the UFC, there was a lot of skepticism. He has proven the doubters wrong though, and is a feared welterweight just 5 fights into his career.

The highlite of his record without doubt, is sending Matt Hughes to his retirment. To think that Funibashi retired the legend of Hughes just 2 fights into his proffesional career is shocking to say the least.

Having finished 3 of his 5 opponents (2 via submission, 1 via TKO), the wrestler is seen as a future contender in the division, and already has a cult following big enough to see him as a mainstay on the main ppv cards.

Week 4, August 2012

Top 10 Stories of "The Lambden Era"

9 - Championship Weight Chaos

Championship plans have been thrown into chaos twice in the last year and a half. Two times a challangers missed weight when in a championship bout, and both times that person went on to win.

Forrest Griffin managed a decision win over Shogun, but that decision came in 3 rounds, not the 5 it would of been if he had not missed weight. Rumours swirled on the internet of a heated confrontation between the boss and the bittersweet feeling Griffin. Forrest wanted a rematch, Lambden wanted his head. In the end Griffin ended up moving to heavyweight where he has lost his only two fights in the time since. Dos Santos was seen as a tough welcome to Heavyweight life, but Heath Herring was a bit of a shock to the system.

And most recently, Chael Sonnen, no stranger to controversy, finally made his way back into the title picture...and blew it. He got the win, also a 3 round decision, but his failure to meet weight meant current champion Leben retains but loses all the momentum he had. It is yet to be clear what Sonnen's fate is but expect it to be equally tough too Griffin's.

Wow what a stacked card, and it's funny seeing Mitrione getting a title shot

Yeah just as a word of warning I do tend to stack my cards a little more than the UFC would because I run 1 a month, so have less cards to fit guys into.

As for Mitrione, it's kind of a case of best available at the time. Fedor only has fought once (they'll be more on him in the top 10 series), others aren't ready to fight at this time, and one other ranked higher dosent have good enough name value to be on the main card let alone main event.

Yeah they are. I had a bit of a habit of signing regens when they first enter based on initial skills. Some worked out, some didn't. Now ive turned this game into a diary though, I wont be signing 0-0 regens unless they are crossover stars with bigger name value.
