Hype - The Fall: TEW 2010 Edition

Recommended Posts

This originally started out as a personal project. The Fall and After the Fall are by far my favorite mods ever with TEW. After seeing some interest in another thread out of some people to see a return of these mods, I requested permission from TommyTomlin and Genadi to release what I have been working on publicly.

I plan on releasing a "vanilla" version of The Fall tomorrow evening. This version of the game is more then playable and will give you a great feel to what the "world" of The Fall is like. I am already working on a massive upgrade with workers, relationships, tag-teams, alter egos, and more. I guess you can kinda consider what I will be releasing an Open Beta.

So let's get this show on the road shall we.....?

BACKSTORY

...March 2001...

At the height of their popularity, with their former enemy WCW vanquished and purchased, the WWF is riding high. It is undoubtably the most powerful promotion in the history of professional wrestling. But questions are being asked about the WCW sale. The U.S Securities and Exchange Commission begins a month-long investigation.

...April 2001...

The wrestling world is in shock. The World Wrestling Federation is hit with a three-hundred million dollar fine, after it was revealed that Vince McMahon and AOL-Time Warner executive Jamie Kellner colluded to intentionally lower the purchase price of WCW. Stockholders and investors deserted the WWF, leaving the McMahon family with a humbled empire almost overnight. Disgraced, distraught and heartbroken, with a roster of wrestlers angry at the McMahon's mismanagement, the WWF was effectively shut down. Live events were cancelled, and television contracts were torn up. The McMahons go into isolation.

In the months that follow, promotions across the United States shut down left, right and centre. Without the support of the WWF, OVW, HWA and MCW close shop. After the loss of millions of casual fans, promotions such as JAPW, APW and UPW can't support themselves. Even promotions with a more hardcore following, such as XPW and CZW close down. Some owners say they'll be back when the industry bounces back. Others leave for good.

It is now October 2001.

The effects of The Fall are still ongoing, but there is cause for optimism. The National Wrestling Alliance, once facing extinction, has re-amalgamated under the leadership of Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes. WWF loyalists Steve Austin, The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels join the returned Shane McMahon to form Fusion Pro Wrestling. And on the west coast, Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan use their connections to form the American Wrestling Federation.

This new 'Big Three' is joined by independent federations across the country, and two exciting new touring promotions. In Canada, a rejuvenated Stampede takes the country by storm. The wrestling industry has definitely bounced back from its perilous lows, but for how long?

Can you guide your promotion through the wreckage of The Fall?

Or will the professional wrestling industry collapse for good?

Remember this is the "Vanilla" Database based solely off of the original The Fall and After Fall. I am working on another database that has greatly increased the size of the "universe" for the mod in almost all terms.

Through out the rest of the day today I will be releasing information on the various promotions in the universe of The Fall.

FUSION PRO WRESTLING (FPW)

After The Fall, the entire McMahon family left the business in disgrace. Except Shane.

Using what was left of the McMahon reputation, and with the assistance of Steve Austin, Shane rounded up a group of WWF loyalists to form Fusion Pro Wrestling.

With a roster that includes names like Austin, The Undertaker and Booker T, and a strong junior division, the Texas-based FPW is one of the 'Big Four' promotions in North America.

AMERICAN WRESTLING FEDERATION(AWF)

Though by many to be the federation to inherit the 'Sports Entertainment' crowd, the AWF is the brainchild of long-time friends Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff.

NWA.jpg

NATIONAL WRESTLING ALLIANCE(NWA)

One of the few bright lights of The Fall was the re-emergence of the NWA as a true force in professional wrestling. With so many small promotions closing, the NWA merged the resources of every single affiliate into one large promotion. And then, it looked to two of its alumni - Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes, to guide it through the wreckage of the industry.

While it lacks the financial strength of its larger rivals, the NWA is the most prestigious promotion in North America.

LEGENDS OF WRESTLING(LoW)

After The Fall, many wrestling fans longed for the nostalgia of the 'golden era'. Legendary manager Jimmy Hart noticed this gap, and with the help of some old friends, formed the Legends of Wrestling, a touring promotion based in the Mid-South.

Boasts a roster of stars from the 1980's and 1990's, and promotes a family-friendly, traditional product.

PRO WRESTLING REBORN(PWR)

Not even The Fall of the entire industry could see Jim Kettner and ECWA off. The home of the Super 8 tournament was one of the few promotions to survive, albeit under a different name, and with a new look roster.

With the help of some of the finest minds on the independent scene, and some 'name' workers such as Jerry Lynn, PWR has became a refuge of sorts for smaller wrestlers and independent talent.

A few hours later then I wanted to be, but the first "Beta" Release for The Fall is ready. This is only the original data from The Fall and After the Fall that I have converted into TEW2010 Data. I haven't added anything new to the system yet in this release. So yes there is a lack of Tag-Teams, Alter Egos, Future Workers, Etc, but that will all be changing in future releases.

I spent a few hours polishing up the worker's pictures, caught a few dupe workers in the process, and out of 1199 Workers only 36 currently do not have a picture.

The actual build I am working on still has quite a bit of work to go on it, but consider it a massive "Add-On" Pack. I think I am adding around 35 to 40% more to the current database. I hope this gets some people looking forward to it though.

I'll also be taking any feedback from anyone who wants to send some. From additions they would like to see, to someone just being WAY OFF in stats, etc, etc. The more feedback I can get with this data here, the more I can use it to mold the final product with.

Links to download The Fall will be at the bottom of the original post.

Out of interest, are you planning on expanding the game world, By that I mean will you plan on including a few yet to debut promotions in say the UK, Europe or even Australia. Even if your not, I am looking forward to this mod. Also was wondering about if you were going to add a few yet to debut promotions in general anyway. I appreciate the work your doing, I myself have often tried to convert the fall into both 08 and 10...But never was able to get it up to scratch of the original, so I thank you sir.

  • 1 year later...

So after a really busy work schedule and some unfortunate happenings in my life, I had to put all work aside on this mod. I recently (earlier today) went to resume work on this mod and was planning on fine tuning it, with the hopes of a Week 1 release with TEW 2013.

Unfortunately I had formatted my hard drive not that long ago and all the work I did on this slipped my mind, so I will be doing this all from scratch again. With there being at least a few months before TEW 2013's release, I am hoping to have this done still by the time the game is released.

I still plan on starting the mod in October 2001. It will still be based 100% on the original The Fall mod.

Some changes that I will be making....

* There will be NO Title Histories. This isn't being lazy on my behalf. I am looking at The Fall as a complete REBOOT on the Entire Wrestling World, not just the United States and Canada. (I may include a separate file with the release with Title Histories for people that want it)

* I will be adding promotions to UK, Europe, and Australia that will open on Day 1 of the mod (They will have an Owner and a handful of workers in place already, everything else will be 100% up to you the player to handle). As well as more future promotions in all Game Regions.

* I will be adding tons of new workers into the game.

* ALL Promotions WILL BE starting with Random Momentum.

With plans to add more promotions to the database, I figured I'd open it up to the TEW community a bit for help/assistance and some added input to the mod. What I am looking for right now.....

1 Promotion for UK, Europe, and Australia that will start on October 2001 (the day the mod starts). If you want to contribute a promotion to the data base, please include ALL the information needed for the promotion, a logo (if you have one; which would be preferred), an owner (if they aren't in my database, I'll PM you for there data; remember this is a fantasy Real World mod), and a handful of workers (you can refer to the first page to see some of the employed workers already in the database; if someone doesn't exists, I'll PM you for their data).

The guidelines I request are......

* Nothing bigger then Cult in size, although I would prefer Regional

* Include one Weekly TV Show

* Pay-Per-View Event Schedule, names and dates

* Titles (At least 1 Major, Midcard, Tag Team)

I will also be looking for the following to add to the Database as "Yet to Debute" Promotions.....

4 to 6 US

2 to 4 Canada

2 to 4 Mexico

2 to 4 Japan

1 to 3 UK

1 to 3 Europe

1 to 3 Australia

These will all have Random start dates, no owner will be set, maximum size Regional.
