WWF PRIME TIME WRESTLING - Week 2, Nov. 1989

- We cut in and see Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan sitting behind the desk in the Prime Time studios.

Gorilla Monsoon - Hello everyone and welcome to WWF Prime Time Wrestling. I’m joined as always by Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan, who had quite the interesting night a few days ago, didn’t you, Brain?

Bobby Heenan - Don’t you start, Monsoon.

GM - What are you talking about? I simply wanted to let you offer some words concerning the recent events here in the World Wrestling Federation, some of which include members of the Heenan Family.

BH - Are you sure this is still the World Wrestling Federation?

GM - And what is that suppose to mean?

BH - I just asked if this was still the World Wrestling Federation. Ya know, with Jack Tunney throwing Rude inside of a locked cage like he’s an animal or something. It sounds like Tunney is using the WWF as a way to live out his fantasy as head zookeeper at the San Diego Zoo.

GM - Oh would you stop! You’re just upset that your cheating ways have caught up to you and the rest of the Heenan Family.

BH - I don’t know what you’re talking about. We went about our business and Tunney decided to throw Rude in a cage with Warrior. It’s all starting to make sense now. What, with Warrior’s circus background and Tunney’s zoo fantasies.

GM - It sounds like you’re gonna be in rare form throughout the night, Brain. But let’s get to our first match of the evening, with ‘The American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes in action against Al Perez.

Al Perez vs. ‘The American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes

<a href="

http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=alperez.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/alperez.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=dustyrhodes10.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/dustyrhodes10.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Match Notes: Not much happening in this match, with the newcomer Perez being no match for Dusty, who was out to send a message to Jake Roberts. Perez came out with a lot of aggression, but it didn’t amount to much, as Dusty took control after a minute or so, and didn’t look back from there. After Perez blocked a move to try and go for a suplex, Dusty reversed it into a suplex of his own, and then locked in the Figure Four Leg Lock, and Perez had no choice but to tap out immediately.

WINNER: Dusty Rhodes at 4:30 (69)

- After the match, Dusty celebrates in the ring when all of a sudden this man’s music hits…..

- Roberts walks down the aisle with a determined look on his face and slowly starts to walk around the ring. Dusty stands inside the ring waiting to pounce, while Jake continues to circle the ring with an evil smile on his face. After circling the ring a few times, Roberts slowly backs his way down the aisle, continuing to smirk at Rhodes inside of the ring. Just before he goes behind the curtain. He stops, and he goes from smiling to evil, as he stares at Rhodes in the ring with a psychotic look on his face, before finally going back through the curtain. (87)

GM - A win for Dusty Rhodes, but a very intense scene after, with Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts circling the ring like a shark, Brain.

BH - Well Monsoon, I’ve already started preparing The Barbarian and Haku for Survivor Series. Who knows what that guy might do. At the first sign of trouble, I’ve advised them to get out of dodge.

GM - That certainly sounds like a plan that you would devise. But I can’t say that I blame you in this situation.

BH - It’s just another situation of Tunney trying to stack the deck against the Heenan Family. That’s alright though. We are the World Wrestling Federation. Without us, he has nothing.

GM - I beg to differ there, Brain.

BH - Fine. Enjoy yourself in the new World Wildlife Federation then. Because that’s what this is turning into.

GM - Let’s get to our next match!

Jacques Rougeau vs. Barry Windham

<a href="

http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=jacquesrougeau2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/jacquesrougeau2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=barrywindham2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/barrywindham2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Match Notes: A good back and forth encounter here, with Windham in a foul mood after he and Tito were cheated out of the tag match on Superstars. While Jacques’ moves were more of the flashy, flamboyant nature, Windham’s were strong and powerful, which gave him the upper hand when Jacques had momentary advantages. Late in the match, Windham was starting to gain some big momentum when Jacques caught him with a rake to the eye and then strutted around for a moment, playing to the crowd. Raymond applauded him on the outside, and turned his back to the ring to continue to taunt the crowd as well. But when Jacques turned back around, Windham kicked him right in the stomach, and then ran off the ropes and hit the Running Bulldog. Windham covered him as Raymond turned around just in time to see referee Joey Marella count the three.

WINNER: Barry Windham at 9:32 (70)

<a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=rickmartel5.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/rickmartel5.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

- After the match, Rick Martel came running down to the ring, as Windham celebrated his victory. Martel hit the ring and as soon as Windham turned around, sprayed him with the Arrogance. Windham went down and Martel jumped to the ground to start attacking him. Rougeau recovered and he and Raymond joined in on the act, but before too much damage could be done…..

- Tito Santana came running into the ring, and cleared Jacques and Raymond out of the ring, and then pointed over at Martel. Tito managed to get his hands on Martel for a short second, before Martel weaseled his way out and exited the ring, joining the Rougeaus as they scurried up the aisle. (59)

GM - So finally Barry Windham gets some revenge on one of Martel’s new cronies, Jacques Rougeau.

BH - He still hasn’t beat Martel though. And he never will.

GM - Well Brain, he’s gonna get an opportunity to meet him in the ring next Thursday night, as Tito will captain a Survivor Series team that will feature Barry Windham and two partners of his choosing, and Martel will captain a team that will feature the Rougeas and another partner of his choice.

BH - The humanoids might as well go to the refrigerator and add a couple of more pounds during that match. Because we already know who’s winning that one.

GM - But the question is, are you as confident about that match as you are the steel cage match between Rude and the Warrior?

BH - I have no comment on that at this time.

GM - But I’m sure you have a comment on this next match, with The Barbarian and Haku taking on Luke and Butch, the Bushwhackers.

The Barbarian and Haku vs. The Bushwhackers

<a href="

http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=thebarbarian.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/thebarbarian.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=haku.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/haku.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=BushwackerButch.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/BushwackerButch.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=BushwackerLuke.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/BushwackerLuke.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Match Notes: A match that saw just how dangerous the team of Barbarian and Haku could be, as they were on the offensive in this one from start to finish. They probably could have finished Luke and Butch off a minute into the match after a huge powerslam off the second rope from Barbarian, but he pulled up after two to stop the count. Eventually though, they decided to win the match, as Barbarian hit a massive Swirling Backbreaker on Butch, and then Haku hit the Falling Headbutt and covered him for the victory.

WINNERS: The Barbarian and Haku at 5:03 (50)

GM - An impressive victory for two Heenan Family members, and surpisingly, there was no one interfering in that match, Brain. Oh wait…..the two men who do a lot of the interfering were actually in the match.

BH - Keep on making those kind of statements, Monsoon. I’ve told you time and time again, all I have to do is snap my fingers, and those two will come up here and snap you in two.

GM - I’m still waiting on that, Brain. They’ll be too busy interfering in matches for that too happen. Although they might get put out of the WWF altogether if Jake gets upset at them at Survivor Series.

BH - Stop saying that, Monsoon. I’ve got enough to worry about right now.

GM - You sure do. But ladies and gentlemen, it’s now time to take a look back at highlights from the match featuring the World Wrestling Federation champion, Hulk Hogan, and Greg ‘The Hammer’ Valentine on Superstars this past week.

- We cut to a video package showing the last few minutes of the Hogan/Valentine match, with the Hulkster picking up the victory. (85)

GM - Now, what you did not see in that video clip is what happened after the match, and we will see that a little later on, plus listen to what ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage had to say concerning what went down.

BH - Alright, alright. Let’s move it along, Monsoon. Because what’s really important is coming up next.

GM - I suppose your talking about the taped interview with the current Intercontinental champion, ‘Ravishing’ Rick Rude?

BH - That’s right,. Roll the clip, monkeys.

GM - Yes, let’s roll the clip. That way we can hear the fear in Rude’s voice as he talks about the turn of events on Superstars, which now sets up the cage match at Survivor Series.

- We cut to a video where we see Rude pacing slowly from side to side, as he looks to be furious.

Rick Rude - “Well, Warrior…..I guess you’re happy now, huh? The man that has been in your back pocket for months now, Jack Tunney, has decided that I deserve to be put inside of a 15 ft. high steel cage with you. And of course, I have to put my title on the line. Well let me tell you both something! I’m tired of everyone around here not respecting me and I’m tired of everyone trying to take the belt that is MINE! I am the WWF Intercontinental Champion for a reason! But I am not being treated like a champion. I am being treated like the guy who mops the floors and it’s not right! But…..Warrior…..if you think that I’m just gonna give up now and hand you this belt that’s around my spectacular waist…..then you’ve got another thing coming! Because regardless of what Jack Tunney tries to do to get this belt off of me, I won’t let it happen. And I especially won’t let it happen to a no-talented freak like you, Warrior.” (92)

BH - Now that, Monsoon, is a true champion. There’s a man that rises to the occasion when the cards are stacked against him. And you’ll see that next on Thanksgiving night.

GM - Oh, so you feel a little better about the situation now?

BH - Of course I do. Did you hear the man? Spoken like a real champion. Unlike the Warrior, who can’t even form a complete sentence.

GM - You better watch what you say, Brain, or the Warrior might get his hands on you at Survivor Series. Oh wait, it’ll just be him, Rude, and the referee inside that steel cage. You can’t get involved.

BH - Quit it, Monsoon. Rude just got me excited. Don’t start trying to bring me down so quickly. The champ will find a way to retain. That’s all you need to know.

GM - For your sake, Brain, I hope so. Because the Heenan Family has already lost one title recently. I know you wouldn’t wanna lose another. Which brings me to our next match between Bret Hart and Arn Anderson…..and I cannot wait to see these two get their hands on each other after the Brainbusters blatantly cost the Hart Foundation the Tag Team Titles.

Arn Anderson vs. Bret Hart

<a href="

http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=arnanderson3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/arnanderson3.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=BretHart18.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/BretHart18.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Match Notes: A superb technical wrestling match, which was to be expected given the two men in the ring. It was obvious from the get-go that these men were going to go at each other with everything that they had, title interference still clearly on the mind of Hart. There were several points throughout the match where referee Jimmy Korderas was trying to stress to both men that some of the closed fists and unwillingness to break holds would cost them the match. Anderson was the one most guilty of this, but there was a time where Hart was reluctant to let go of a hold after Anderson made his way to the ropes. Midway through the match, Anvil was taunted by Arn, which made Anvil jump up on the apron and try to get into the ring. Already understanding that control was being lost in the match, Korderas ordered him to the back. Blanchard and Heenan laughed as he started to walk towards the aisle, but then he charged over and took Blanchard down with a spear. Hart and Anderson then continued to exchange blows inside the ring, with both men on the mat exchanging mounted punches. Korderas tried to pull them off of each other, but had no luck, and simply called for the bell, ruling the match a double disqualification.

WINNER: Double disqualification at 12:21 (84)

- After the match, both teams continued their aggression, with Korderas calling for help from the back. A host of officials came running out and got in between the men, once again stopping the situation before it could escalate any further.

GM - Go ahead, Brain. I can tell that you have something to say about that one.

BH - Let me just say this. I don’t know what kind of scheme that Tunney and the rest of the WWF officials are concocting up there, but if the Brainbusters aren’t somehow involved or get the opportunity to face Demolition for OUR belts, then I will have to leave matters in the hands of the legal system.

GM - Let me get this straight. You’re going to sue Jack Tunney and the World Wrestling Federation if the Brainbusters don’t get a chance to be the top challengers?

BH - That’s exactly right, Monsoon. It would be a crime. And how are crimes resolved? Through the legal system. Makes perfect sense to me.

GM - Just like all of these interferences that you’ve led in recent weeks which led to your guy Rude being put in a cage with the Warrior made sense, right?

BH - Why do you continue to bring that up? You’re convinced that the Warrior is gonna beat Rude, aren’t you?

GM - I’m not convinced, Brain. But I’m certainly leaning in the Warrior’s favor.

BH - Well just like the rest of the humanoids out there, Rude is gonna prove you wrong. You’ll see.

GM - Well ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for our featured bout of the evening. And it’s a match that I’m sure the World Wrestling Federation champion will have his eye on, as a member of “The Suspects” team at Survivor Series, the Million Dollar Man, goes one on one with Brutus ‘The Barber’ Beefcake.

Million Dollar Man vs. Brutus ‘The Barber’ Beefcake

<a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=teddibease3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/teddibease3.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/?action=view&current=brutusbeefcake3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/TheBlake/brutusbeefcake3.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Match Notes: A great match with plenty of back-and forth action. Fans were behind Beefcake more than usual following his flawless match with the Intercontinental champ on Superstars. These two really went at each other, and DiBiase started to grow frustrated midway through the match. He kicked his aggression up a notch, but the overexertion helped Beefcake gain the upper hand. As Beefcake seemed to be changing the momentum of the match, Mr. Perfect slowly made his way down the aisle to loud boos from the crowd. Beefcake saw this and started to turn his attention to Perfect, but realized this was their plan, and went back to work on DiBiase. Beefcake called for his patented Sleeper Hold with DiBiase reeling, but DiBiase didn’t allow the hold to be locked on, and hit a quick back suplex. DiBiase then went over to engage referee Joey Marella, while Beefcake made his way up. Perfect grabbed Beefcake’s foot before he could go after DiBiase, and Beefcake turned around furious. DiBiase hustled over and locked on the Million Dollar Dream, with Beefcake not able to raise his hand on the third try to give DiBiase the victory.

WINNER: Million Dollar Man at 10:02 (88)

- After the match, DiBiase and Perfect raise their hands in the ring, as the crowd boos them out of the building.

GM - Ya know, that looked like a Heenan Family move right there.

BH - I don’t know what you’re talking about, Monsoon. It’s clear that DiBiase and Perfect are in prime form heading into Survivor Series. Now only if Savage would figure out what he’s doing and get on the same page as these two fine athletes.

GM - Well I think the Macho Man is clearly after the same thing as these two men in that he wants to clear his name from the Hulk Hogan attack. But he goes about his business in a different way.

BH - He better figure it out, Monsoon. He better figure out that following the lead of two of the smartest men in the WWF will get him back in the WWF Title picture. But I guess he already knew that when he attacked Hogan last month.

GM - There you go again pinning the blame on one man. Savage clearly had a motive to do it, however, we still have no evidence pointing towards him.

BH - Or DiBiase or Perfect.

GM - That may be true as well. Folks, speaking of the Macho Man, let’s take a listen to hear what he has to say about this whole situation!

- We cut to a video where we see the Macho Man in an intense, focused mood.

Macho Man - “Everybody out there has been wondering what is up with the Macho Man…..WELL I'M GONNA TELL YOU! You see, my goal ever since I came back from my injury was to beat Hulk Hogan to regain my World Wrestling Federation Championship. But what happens as soon as I get back? I START GETTING BLAMED FOR SOMETHIN' THAT I DIDN'T DO! Million Dollar Man, Mr. Perfect….you two go about things much differently than I do. Do I wanna beat Hulk Hogan? OOOHHH YEEAAAH! But I’m the kind of man that wants to do it in the ring, face to face, mono e mono! Now with that said, at Survivor Series, I’m gonna get the chance to do that. I don’t like being paired with two men who think I committed the act of a coward, but the fact remains that we are teammates. And DiBiase, Perfect…..I know you two want to win that match just like I do! I may not believe in everything that you do and I don’t care for the way that you’ve tried to victimize me…..but all that goes out the window on Thanksgiving night! Because Hulk Hogan, you’re gonna be in that ring with three men who do not like you. Three men who all want a shot at the WWF Title. I will say it again…..I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT ATTACK IN THE PARKING LOT! But Hulk Hogan, I’m gonna attack you in that ring at Survivor Series. And I’m gonna show everyone that I deserve a rematch for the World Wrestling Federation Title. OOOHHHH YEEAAAH!” (100)

GM - What a statement by the Macho Man, as he is clearly ready for the huge main event at Survivor Series next Thursday.

BH - He better be. Because I know Perfect and DiBiase are.

GM - Thanks for joining us tonight everyone. Be sure to tune in to Superstars for the final preparations before the big show next Thursday. In the place of our normal Prime Time Wrestling schedule next Monday night will be a special Survivor Series preview show, which I’m sure all of you will enjoy! Good night everyone!

We've got a new leader atop the standings, as Jingo moves into first! Also, as I've mentioned, there will be several bonus point opportunities on the Survivor Series predictions. So if you're behind, don't worry, there will be chances to catch up. But we are now only one TV show away from Survivor Series! For storyline purposes, I'm using the next week's Prime Time as a special Survivor Series preview show, which won't be a full show write-up, but just a preview of the matches. In the actual TEW game, it will be used as an experimental house show-type of show so that I can look at a few ideas and things like that. Anyways, Wrestling Challenge results and Superstars card should be up tomorrow.

Rumors have been swirling in recent days that the National Wrestling Alliance has started to take major steps towards widening the scope of their promotion.

They have officially decided to classify themselves as a “National” promotion, and plan on touring throughout the entire United States in order to continue growing their brand. Many insiders are giving most of the credit to Ric Flair, who continues to main event all the major shows within the promotion.

The NWA is expected to make offers to bring in some exciting new wrestlers to the promotion in the coming days. There is no word yet whether they plan to try and steal some talent away from the global phenomenon that is the World Wrestling Federation, or if they will focus mainly on calling on hot young prospects in smaller organizations.

OK gentlemen, you know the drill. Show should be up Tuesday. The show is already written, so if everyone gets their predictions in earlier than that, I might put it up before then so that the preparations can begin for Survivor Series!

Honky Tonk Man vs. Hacksaw Jim Duggan

While I almost think you'd throw Duggan a bone on this one, you were pretty high up on Honky for the start, so I'm gonna figure him to take it.

Jake 'The Snake' Roberts vs. The Mighty Hercules

A snake in the grass can fell even the mightiest.

Tully Blanchard vs. Shawn Michaels

Because I mark out for Tully Blanchard, that's why.

Million Dollar Man and Macho Man Randy Savage vs. Demolition

LOT of ways this one can go. First, there's an obvious Brainbusters run-in that could go on. Or, heel dissention could give it to Demolition. The Demos could use momentum in order to look strong against the top heels of the fed at Survivor Series, and with being tag champs can they really stand a loss? There's a chance of Hogan coming in to help his team. There's Perfect and Virgil there to help the heels too, of course. BTW, did we miss something as for where Sherri is at? In the end, I'm gonna call it a no-contest, just because I for the life of me can't find a winner.

I did forget to mention this, but although I have it listed on my first page as Sherri managing Savage (since that was default in the mod), Sherri is not currently involved with him. There is a reason why, and it'll make more sense over the next month or so of shows.....:D

Honky Tonk Man vs. Hacksaw Jim Duggan

Duggan gets El Kabonged while Jimmy Hart distracts the ref

Jake 'The Snake' Roberts vs. The Mighty Hercules

Herc is a JTTS.

Tully Blanchard vs. Shawn Michaels

Gonna predict a double DQ here.

MAIN EVENT NON-TITLE MATCH

Million Dollar Man and Macho Man Randy Savage vs. Demolition

Dissension in the ranks of the heels leads to a win for the champs. I predict Virgil accidentally hitting Macho or some such thing.

Honky Tonk Man vs. Hacksaw Jim Duggan

Can't see Ol' Hacksaw getting a victory here.

Jake 'The Snake' Roberts vs. The Mighty Hercules

Hercules won't be able to stop The Snake

Tully Blanchard vs. Shawn Michaels

The stronger Rocker picks up victory over the weaker 'Buster

Million Dollar Man and Macho Man Randy Savage vs. Demolition

Why I love Demo and they are champs.. Savage and Ted will get victory here.

Duggan isn't worth a victory here.

Although, Dusty may cause a distraction leading to the L for The Snake.

Time for the Rockers to win the titles or break-up.
