[release] FictionPlus - My Presentation App for Dynasties

Recommended Posts

I think I've figured it out. If want to background images to show up on these forums you need to uncheck "Automatically parse links in text" in Additional Options

This is what it looks like with it not unchecked

Ah that's sweet but, you must now think I'm dense or so but where would I find that option? Additional options? I surely don't see those... o.O

It should be in the section directly under the Submit Reply button (so long as you're not doing quick reply). Hopefully it looks the same on your setup as mine, but for me it's the section right between this area I'm composing this message and the Topic Review section which shows all the previous posts in the thread.

Oh, and I probably should have specified - this is on the GDS forum, not the fictionplus website :)

Just a little tip - Do not press enter thinking it will 'ok' your speach bubble you'll lose everything you've just spent almost 2 hours putting together ... Ok so thats just me, so annoyed with myself right now.

Quick Question for the future is there any way to save what you have?

Quick Question for the future is there any way to save what you have?

Wouldn't Enter just give you a new line in the editor?

As for saving... there's a bit of a rub. Saving in itself is no problem (in the grand scheme of things; it would require setting up of user accounts, but that's not too bad in itself), but loading it back up is where things get iffy. If you just wanted to save what's there but accept that you can't further edit anything you saved, that would be simple. Being able to load everything back AND remain editable is really difficult.

(to give more technical detail of it, it's because the ability to edit stuff is assigned at the time of creation (i.e., you adding/altering something on the page). Loading everything back would mean somehow going back over every element and working out if it should be editable. I thought I would just be able to mark things on a "to do" list, but it appears to be a little more complicated)

It's definitely something I want done eventually, but it may take someone with more immediate javascript/jQuery knowledge than me, I'm not sure.

But if all you want is the ability to save things without the ability to edit them later, I would currently suggest periodically exporting what you've done to notepad (it's easier than you having to go through the process of registering an account and remembering a password and all that stuff after all)

I just posted my second show using FictionPlus, with the help of crayon I managed to get the outer image thingy to work. Here is the show with a little bit of a tweak compared to the first one I made: http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1688493#post1688493

What we could really use next are 4v4 and 5v5 matches, but I don't want to be pushy. I think I'm just very excited that this program is available now and imo, crayon won the internet ^^

Sorry i just tried to recreate what i did ... When your putting in an image and you get the little box that says

'Please enter the URL of an image to insert

Note: Large files can slow down loading of the page and may be automatically resized'

If you press enter it removes everything.

My fault for not being more careful, i never was that good with technology :o

Not pushy at all. It's good to know what people want. Whether I'll have time to do this or that is another thing, but I'm keeping track of suggestions/requests anyway!

(And thanks for the internet award, yer makin me blush :p)

Huh, wow. Just tried it myself and I see what you're talking about. That's actually a pretty huge design flaw. Thanks for pointing that one out, and I'll make that a priority to fix.

Until I mention otherwise it would be best to assume that hitting enter on any of those style pop-up boxes *may* reload your whole page.

Yeah i'm going to have another go at some point but will be very careful :) .. Think i'll export to notepad every now and then this time, don't want to get 10 segments into a 14 segment show again :o

But in all this is a very cool little aid ... Just a shame you didn't make it *jingo-proof*

Plus while your thinking about suggestions how about making the match ratings WMMA friendly. I was thinking how cool this would look for a WMMA dynasty.

That's a pretty good idea to make it WMMA friendly. With it, I suppose would be things like larger 1vs1 image possibilities, given the size of the wmma renderings (haven't actually checked out a wmma diary so I don't know if they use those or the smaller sized pics). What kind ratings does WMMA use?

Along those lines: I notice that within a session those pop-up boxes cache their values. In some cases that's desirable, like with pictures for dialog boxes. But it also happens with the export pop-up.

For example, when I was putting together my last show I had a left dialog box that for some reason didn't work right, couldn't select the image, couldn't enter text, couldn't remove it. I did an export to see if I could see anything weird in the raw html, then just deleted the section and started the segment over again.

When I was done with the show I hit export again, copied out the code and pasted it into the forum. The result was anything past my first export wasn't there. Looked back at the raw code and no new code past my first export had been generated by the app.

I decided to delete all the raw code out of the export pop-up (both the html and the forum-friendly code), closed the pop-up and attempted to export again. This time the complete set of code generated.

I'm not sure if you can control whether or not the values in your pop-up boxes cache or not. If you can, I would suggest not having the export pop-up cache.

Thanks for the info. I'm not aware of any immediate control I have over caching for that textbox, but hopefully there's something in the options of that script I'm using which helps generate the pop up. That's another one which is high priority
