[release] FictionPlus - My Presentation App for Dynasties

Recommended Posts

Feel free to post your tests in here and presumably the diary preview thread (it gets more views I expect too) to see what people think of potential layouts.

Also, if you have an image background which is too distracting and you use photoshop/gimp/etc, you can always try putting the image on top of a white or black background, and then making it more transparent until it gives a more subtle effect. That's something which I've found occasionally helps in the past.

How the hell did I miss out on this thread?

Incredible work you did there, I love it. And some of the questions I had have already been asked, too. :)

One thing I haven't read yet (or overread, in which case I'm sorry) is:

Is it possible for the images in the dialogues to be streched out to 150x200 format like you can do in the matches? Since that's the format I use, that would be pretty neat.

Gonna watch that tutorial now and see what else I missed out. :)

That's a pretty good idea to make it WMMA friendly. With it, I suppose would be things like larger 1vs1 image possibilities, given the size of the wmma renderings (haven't actually checked out a wmma diary so I don't know if they use those or the smaller sized pics). What kind ratings does WMMA use?

WMMA ratings;

Abysmal

Awful

Very Poor

Poor

Average

Decent

Good

Great

Fantastic

Excellent

I think you can, in the video I remember hearing that 150x200 is in as a few diaries on the board use that format.

I've just had a look and if you put a match in then right click on the "No Image Available" box it gives you the two options.

Another show up using this marvelous tool. What do you think of the background, too distracting?

And one of the things you told us, when we were floundering around with vampires and drinking blood, was that if we were unhappy with the way things were going, then we were the ones who had to change them. I think you can, in the video I remember hearing that 150x200 is in as a few diaries on the board use that format.

I've just had a look and if you put a match in then right click on the "No Image Available" box it gives you the two options.

Thanks, but that's not what I meant. :)

I was refering to the images in the dialogues. There seems to be no right-click menue for them.

Boomking, to me I'd say the background is a little distracting. Any movement on an otherwise static page tends to draw my eye towards it. A subtle animation could work well, although I think that smackdown logo is intended to be anything but :) I like the blue color scheme you've picked though, goes well with Smackdown

I'm amazed that you can use animated gifs for the background though! You guys are discovering stuff I didn't even think of

I'm a 150x200 man myself, so you can believe that I'd love to have that option in there. The main reason why it's not included is that I am only just managing to keep the whole thing together with the 150x150 (well technically they're 113x113 at that point) images and all the varying sizes of speechboxes possible -- I'm concerned that introducing an additional size to think about could cause everything to blow up :p

Which brings me to a question. Would I still be able to post my youtube embed things to play songs?

I'm unsure about that one at the moment. If you add a text element, in the editor there's an option to add a video, and from there you can link to a site like youtube. However, I haven't been able to get it to work for me yet.

I may need to update the editor. If it's the case I'd probably need a day to test it out at home to make sure it doesn't break anything else online, though

Just a way to embed a Youtube video would be nice.

Also, it'd be neat if you could add a way into the match thing that would allow you to place the workers names right under their pictures. Just a thought that would add a bit more of an option when formatting. Do you have any plans of including a way of adding say a segment? A Promo or something of that nature?

Can you save your work? I've lost my show 3 times already :( and im getting mad lol.

My best advice at the moment is to periodically export things to notepad. You lose the ability to go back and edit things (for reasons which I've mentioned in another post a little while back about the difficulties of saving), but at least you'll have something.

And from what I understand, you can add separately exported pieces together on here and they'll slot together without much (any?) issue

Normally I just use a mixture of dialogue/speech bubbles and text for promos. What other sorts of things are you thinking?

How hard would it be to integrate a way to change the match grades into numbers? Just a thought. I've become very keen on the alternate grades somebody did for the game that shows the numbers and the letter grades. I think I've got a way to use both for the time being now that I've figured out how to move that match grade thing ha ha.

It's not "hard" perse, but it would be time consuming and a bit of a nightmare for user interface (well, that latter part could be hard, depending how difficult or easy you wanted to be able to set the grades).

Reason being that I'd have to do at the most 100 images (for maximum styling) to represent every numerical grade possible or at the least 10 images for combinations of numerical grades (0-9, then use some kind of logic to group them all together - and move them together), and do that not just once, but for every different style of grade as well. And the after that I'd have to figure out a way for you to be able to manipulate the grades smoothly.

It's not impossible, but for the work involved it's probably a lower priority if I'm being completely honest.

That said, if you don't want to use the letter grades, just set them to Transparent. And that way you can add the number grades into the main text, without the letter grades making things look weird.

I set the grades from the match to no style and then inserted my own grade images into the text.</p>

@ jwt13: It looks really solid, but the blue is rather on the darker side of the spectrum which makes the (smaller) black font a little hard to read. Other than that your side image isn't distracting me so yah, overall it's pretty good I'd say.
