South Carolina (The REAL USC) does not have a stellar football history. Despite arguably the best fan support in the country, USC hasn't been able to reach "elite" status. Hell, we barely reach "mediocre" status. But all that now has changed, with the arrival of perhaps the best coach and offensive mind in college football. ~~Steve Spurrier~~. [b]Me[/b]. [LEFT] At RB, Lisbon has a bright future, but will redshirt. Glover will start and is a nice scatback in the Warren Dunn mold. He should have a nice season in our offense and catch a ton of passes. Autry is a good backup. Montoya is too passive and slow to make a difference. At FB, Wayne has the instincts and discipline to start from day 1. He's a stud. [LEFT] At WR, McDonald is a burner and our #1 guy. Centers and Moore are very capable. Stanciel will redshirt and be a nice player in the future. At TE, Rasby is a nice prospect but needs a redshirt year to work on his blocking. [LEFT] At OT, Williams and Ware will start and Sams will get significant time in reserve. Jones will redshirt. At OG, Stokely and Dupre are very disciplined and will start. Dupre has a real nasty streak and will be a nice player. Waller will get time in reserve. This group is a bit weak overall. AT C, we have 3 freshmen. I would like to start the one with the most discipline and intelligence, but Finks is too talented to sit. Rychlec is the backup. Towler would redshirt if we had enough people. [LEFT] At DE, Robinson is a man-child and will start as a true FR. Rachal will bookend with him and Morgan will get time. Dillon is a nice run stopper. I'm going to try and redshirt Rahn for depth purposes. At DT, Buck will clog the middle and Geason will be a disciplined rusher. True FR Gammon is a quality player who could use a redshirt, but won't get one unless we go with the 3-4. [LEFT] At ILB, Saturday is our best pass rusher and coverage man. Frederickson has loads of talent will redshirt if we go with a 4-3 with Marsh the backup. If we go 3-4, Frederickson has to start. At OLB, we have a wealth of riches. Our top 3 guys consist of 2 So and 1 Fr. I'm actually going to redshirt Fox and start Symonette and Wells, with Wonsley getting lots of time. Symonette will play SLB so his coverage skills allow him to help on the TE. Wells is a better push rusher from the WLB spot. Butler gets a redshirt too. [U]Recruiting Plan:[/U] We must bring in at least 1 ILB to upgrade talent and add depth. If we find a guy who fits a 3-4 scheme, we'll bring in him and another guy for depth. [LEFT] At CB, Ross has nice talent, but needs a redshirt year to develop. Lewis and Jennings have good agility and instincts in addition to being our best coverage guys. Betters is a bit less talented than Tuman, but his instincts are better and he will get the first chance at the nickel slot. Tuman gets the dime slot for now, and has good skills at blitzing. At SS, I'm not impressed with anybody. Herock is the obvious starter and Witcher the backup, but I think I'm going in another direction and starting 1 of our FS at SS. FS Warren is a run stopper and has better ratings than Herock, so he'll start at SS. Sullivan is a nice blitzer and cover guy, so he'll get the nod at FS. Herock will back up at FS and SS and Fr FS Pollard will redshirt. [U]Recruiting Plan:[/U] We don't have a real need for numbers here, but we must upgrade out talent. If we land a stud, great. If not, we won't waste a scholarship here. [/LEFT]

[B][U]Scouting Service[/U][/B] We choose the best service specializing in the SE region. Why not? [B][U]Team Budget[/U][/B] We hit "suggest" and change our expenditures in the West region to 15,000 so we can up our Academics to 70,000. Other than that, it looks fine. [B][U]Offensive Philosophy[/U][/B] This is a tough decision. I think we have the personnel to run anything except the Option. I think we need to get our FB on the field and stay away from the Quads set. QB Long is a West Coast QB, RB Glover is a great receiver and we have good pass protection, so I think the West Coast is the way to go this year. [B][U]Defensive Philosophy[/U][/B] I like the 4-3, but our strength at OLB makes me think seriously about the 3-4 or 4-4. Our lack of talent at S makes me a bit hesitant to make them an bigger part of the D than they already are. I'm going to rely on our DL talent and allow my OLB talent to make plays and go with the 4-3. [B][U]Schedule[/U][/B] We currently have 9 games scheduled, 5 home and 4 away. Based on posts at the BBCF forum, I will try and get home games to increase the revenue stream. We have a BRUTAL midseason stretch of 3 away games: #1 LSU, #9 UGA, and #20 Tenn in a row. I'll try and schedule cupcakes with decent prestige. The process is very frustrating. I can't fill 2 home slots! IRL, teams like SC have teams begging to show up and get pounded in return for a paycheck. But here, NO TEAM has greater than "Average" interest in playing us in Columbia. That needs to be adjusted. So, with 1 stage left and needing a 12th game in Week 1, I have to try a Home-and-Home with a below average team. We need a way to sort teams by their willingness to play us at home, along with a way to specify where the first game of a H-H series is played. Here is what we get:

[B][U]Week 1[/U][/B] We travel to Miami (O) for what should be a gimme opener. It doesn't go quite as smoothly as we anticipated, illustrating that we still have a lot of work to do. We didn't run the ball very well and Long had 3 picks. Glover made up for his lack of rushing efficiency by being the leading receiver. In his first game, FR DE Robinson had a forced fumble, a sack and a hurry. Good debut. [B][U]Week 2[/U][/B] We came out fairly unscathed from last game. Our only lingering injury is backup OG Ike Waller's broken collarbone. He is listed as Probable (3-5). We will sit him this week, and use our 2 consecutive open dates to let him heal. We are not ranked, but collected 18 votes in the Media Poll and 26 in the Coaches Poll. This week, we have our first home game against Bowling Green. BG has below average prestige and lost last week to Miss St 41-13. We hope to put a similar beating on them. We are (-9) favorites. We start off by marching down the field and throwing an INT. BG puts 13 points on the board after that as our offense is stagnant. We lose FB Couch to injury early. We play a terrible first half and are lucky to be down 13. In the 3rd quarter, we get to the BG 30 before we fumble it away. But we take it back on the next play and score a TD a few plays later to make it 13-7 BG. We make a nice stand and get the ball back. We promptly commit our 3rd turnover at our 20. We get it back on an INT and end the 3rd quarter with the ball down 13-7. We trade punts and eventually get it at our 7 with 5:47 left. The first 2 plays are a dropped pass and a bad route. We wake up and march down the field in 3:58 for a go-ahead TD, 14-13. We kick off with 1: 49 to go. BG promptly completes a 47-yard pass against my dime package. 3 plays later, they are at our 33 with under 20 seconds to go. They attempt a 50 yard FG.... wide left! We got very, very lucky. Our rushing attack is anemic and we can't keep committing turnovers.

[B][U]Week 3 and Week 4[/U][/B] This week and next are open dates, which is good because we can let OG Waller heal (P, 2-4). We would also say it was good so we can let FB Couch heal from his broken foot (Q, 1-3), but he's now on Academic Suspension. Along with our starting RB Zach Glover. Yea. Fantastic. Looks like I have to take over managing the academics again. Great job, AI. I assign 7 extra hours to both of them.

[B][U]Week 5[/U][/B] OG Waller is still not fully healed, and since he's a backup, I'll let him sit this game too. RB Autry gets his chance. Really, he can't do much worse. We will miss RB Glover's receiving skills, but I might have given Autry a chance this week anyway. We travel to Kentucky, who just lost to #4 UGA 57-10. They have the #85 offense and #94 defense, and are without their starting QB, backup RB and FB, starting DT and FS. UK is favored by (-12). Let's see what happens.... We get the first TO of the game inside our 20, but can't do anything with it. UK's QB hurts his elbow and won't return, so their 3rd string guy comes in and promptly completes a 10-yard hook and 12-yard out. UK scores. Wonderful. 7-0 UK. We take the ball and go 3-and-out on 3 useless rushing plays. Horrible. Then we lose out starting C. Punt. We have more penalty yards (40) than total yards (35). UK methodically marches down the field (behind their 3rd string QB) as the quarter ends. UK gets a FG a few minutes into the 2nd quarter. 10-0 UK. UK ends the half with a TD to lead 17-0. For the record: UK has lost their QB and about 4 other starters. Their [B]3rd string QB[/B] is 16-20-166-1/0 against me. UK has outgained us 288-62. We have 44 penalty yards. 17 rushes for 23 yards. This makes no sense. We have a lot of talent. This game is kind of like watching a real USC game.... We get to UK's 4 and go for it on 4th down. Sack. TERRIBLE DECISION. [B]Is that the bug still?[/B] We stuff them, get the ball back and score, but lose WR Centers to an injury. 17-7 UK with 2:06 left in the 3rd. Maybe if we had kicked a FG earlier... We stuff them again and their P shanks one. SC ball at midfield as the 4th quarter begins. Hmmm... time for a... turnover! We fumble. Luckily, we force a punt, and march for a TD. 17-14 UK with 9:32 left. [B]Should be a tie game.[/B] Let's see if we can hold them again. We do! CB Lewis gets a pick off Joe Montana... err, UK's [B]3rd string QB[/B] at UK's 35 with 8:28 left. Umm, then UK picks off the next pass and returns it for a TD. 24-14 UK and that's the game. What a ****ing joke.

Our OL play has been terrible, as has everything else. It's time for a shakeup. Our backup C Rychlec, who would have to play for 6-8 weeks while our starter heals, gave up 4 sacks vs. UK. I'm going to put our 3rd string OT Peters there. Our starting OGs Dupre and Stokely are going to be benched in favor of Tucker and Waller. I'm going to put FB Couch at RB. Trying to set the ST depth is a nightmare. If you hit "suggest," it puts injured players in slots. (Note: While checking my roster, I find that the status column still doesn't sort properly.) Now we get to be assaulted by #3 Auburn. We score first on a 65-yd TD pass. 7-0 USC. We then get an INT at our 30, but fumble it back. AUB pins us deep with a punt. We punt. The quarter ends with AUB driving. We lead, 7-0. AUB misses a 43-yd FG. We exchange punts and then AUB picks off a pass that ends in a FG. 7-3 USC. As time ticks away, AUB has a 47 yd pass play brought back due to a penalty. That's how the half ends. 7-3 USC. We take the opening KO and march downfield to the AUB 2 before kicking a FG. We really needed a TD there. AUB responds with a FG of their own. 10-6 USC. We trade punts and miss an easy score on a dropped pass. The quarter ends with AUB driving at our 19 and our losing RB Autry to a serious injury. They settle for a FG early in the 4th. 10-9 USC. We try to drive, but end up punting to the AUB 29. They end up punting it back to us with 9:18 left. We drive and take some time off the clock, but end up punting it back with 6:25 left. AUB ball at their 18. This could be the game right here. So of course, they get a 47 yd pass completion on 3rd and long. AUB ball at our 38 with 5:05 left. Then a 27 yd completion to our 11. Looks like another loss. Yep, TD. The 2-pt is no good, and AUB leads 15-10 with 3:06 left. We get the ball at our 21. We're driving well... until our WR fumbles. AUB recovers, game over. FB Pate (Foot, Probable, 0-2) and DT Ogden (Toe, Prob, 1-3) are hurt, but they will still play. We're going to shake things up again and start FB Wayne at RB and move FB Couch back to FB. OG Dupre moves to RG and Tucker to reserve LG. Now we travel to #1 LSU (-18). They average 500 YPG. This will be very ugly. We score on our opening drive. 7-0 USC. LSU responds. 7-7. I hate this portion of the game. I hated it in TCY and still hate it in this game. As far as injuries go, OLB Symonette is hurt now anyway. RB Autry and C Finks are still out, but Pinks is now probable and will play. Losing ILB Saturday and OLB Symonette will hurt a lot. FB Wayne moves back to FB after failing miserably at RB. Well, what jumps out is the great performance of true FR DE Robinson with 6 sacks. This chart shows how badly losing Symonette and Saturday hurts. CBs Jennings and Lewis have been excellent. Betters has made way too many mistakes and given up too many big plays. He will lose his nickel spot immediately to Tuman.

Everybody except Autry and Symonette will play as we travel to UT with a 5-game losing streak. We open the scoring with a 50-yd FG. 3-0 us. We get it back and march to the UT 18, where we promptly throw a pick. UT gets a FG. 3-3. We get a FG. 6-3 us. As time expires in the half, UT kicks a FG to tie the game. 6-6 going into the 2nd half.
