Tag01 Posted December 22, 2011 Share Posted December 22, 2011 Happy Holidays! I figured some of you guys would have some down time over the Holidays, so here is the newest version. The newest version is up to 2,363 fighters and still has 24 active companies. After getting some specifics on what slows the game down from Adam, I've decided it's unlikely I'll add more than 1-2 more promotions, if any. The number of fighters will continue grow, however, as I have quite a few prospects on my to do list. There have been some big changes in MMA recently, and I've taken some of them into account. I've added the featherweight division in the UFC, and I've moved over the heavyweights from Strikeforce that have already been announced. While Strikeforce's heavyweight division will be done soon, I'm leaving what's left of it in the game for the time being. In this update, I spent some time tweaking the stats of the UFC fighters, and will continue that in the future. The biggest, most time consuming part of this updated however had to do with reputation and rankings. I usually model my top 25 after the USA Today composite rankings, but outside of the top 25 it has always been hit or miss. After using modmaker+ I have been able to make some fairly big changes to the reputation stats. The large majority of fighters have lower reputations to start with, so it's less likely for no name fighters to pop into the top 25 after crushing 1 can in a small promotion. Of course, if you find anything unusual in your gameplay please let me know. I have some other plans I hope to do soon, including bring back Modern Warriors Lite, which will be a less detailed but much faster version of the mod. It will likely include no fight histories or relationships, and probably have a few promotions removed as well. For those who care more about speed and don't usually play as the tiny promotions this might be a better option for you. I always love feedback! Obviously since it is just a WMMA2 database from a few years ago it is lacking in basically every department. Yet it is still the most fun I have playing this game. First I'm making a list of fighters that never debut because they arent in the database (Its huge. 140 that are under UFC contract alone right now aren't in it, nevermind all the other promotions). The numbers are daunting, so what I am going to do is import the names in mass from this mod and edit their debut date first (if needed). Otherwise the guys that weren't already in Dawn of MMA will be your fighters verbatim until later releases when the foundation is finally covered. I would never complete it otherwise though if I had to manually add and rate every missing fighter. Stations like Fox and CBS only have a range that includes America. Are you aware that here in Canada we get every single major American channel? All basic cable packages include NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, The CW and some basic packages even include stations like TBS. Limiting the TV stations like this in the game makes it virtually impossible to get coverage in more than one country at a time, unless you have tons of different TV shows going on in every country, which is stupid. Now, I think this game would be so much better if under the TV controls there was an option to "syndicate" your TV show, ie. allow you to only book one UFC on TV, for instance, but have it shown on different channels in different countries. Since this option isn't in the game it's important to make sure some of the existing channels, especially the huge networks, have coverage outside of the USA. I gave him a spot in the initial fight figuring he'd lose to Ian McCall and McCall could get a small rub from beating a better known fighter, but Dodson won. I figured what the hell and decided to feed Dodson to Benavidez, but after losing most of the way Dodson pulls a guillotine off a fifth round takedown to keep the title on an FX show for me. I decide to take a look at his fight history to know him better as he is now a UFC champ with a successful defense, and I see a grand bit of comedy. Apparently in 2006 John Dodson fought Shane Carwin at the Ultimate Texas Showdown 6. He lost by rear naked choke in 29 seconds. You meant Chris Guillen lost to Carwin by that result, but I encourage you to never change this. Its absurdly awesome on so many levels. I mean... rear naked choke? Could Carwin even fit his forearms on Dodson's neck well enough to choke him? And... why? Dude would have had a near 150 pound weight advantage. Why take his back and submit him? For laughs? Exactly. It makes no sense, is highly unrealistic (people in the USA still think Canada is just a frozen tundra with Eskimos living in igloos, obviously) and makes the game ridiculously hard. Do you know that in England UFC PPVs are shown on ESPN? ESPN is a pay channel over there, obviously, but it has reach into the UK. How are you supposed to increase your company's popularity in say, Australia, when you can't get any TV or PPV coverage there? If you're the UFC and you hold an event in Australia it draws like 2000 people because no one in game world Australia is able to see your product, unless you add another TV show that only airs in Australia, which is dumb because anything the UFC does they make available everywhere. Again I'll say, and maybe I should put this in a WMMA 4 wish thread, but the TV situation in the game needs to be changed. You should be able to get syndication, ie. re-runs of your TV shows would be shown on other channels. Also, TV stations should have partnership agreements. The aforementioned Rogers Sportsnet would have an agreement with FOX and FX to show UFC events that are on those channels, for instance. But since the game doesn't work that way it needs to be manipulated to somewhat replicate that. For Canada it's easy -- all the big US networks have range that includes Canada, like they do in real life. This starts to break down a bit if you go into other countries because FX might be a medium level channel in the USA but in the UK it wouldn't be that big at all. Whatever channel there shows the UFC needs to have its own level, so I'm not entirely sure how to do that, other than making sure there is PPV coverage for companies, especially big ones like the UFC. In the end I know we, the end user of this mod, can change this stuff ourselves. But I'd still like to think the modmakers would appreciate some input from the fans of their hard work. tl;dr The TV station situation in the game and the mods are no good and need an overhaul. I still think that the popularity of North of England should be increased.
