BUSHIDO FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS OPEN IN JAPAN

Stephen LaSalle – 1.8.98 – www.blurcat.com

Today, a press conference was held in Tokyo, Japan to announce the creation of a new fight promotion in the country. Bushido Fighting Championships will be based in Tokyo, Japan and is most likely an attempt to captalise on the success of ALPHA-1: Mixed Martial Arts.

The CEO of the company Japanese businessman Eisaku Higashikuni announced the creation in front of Japanese press in a meeting hall in downtown Tokyo and his intentions of bringing true ‘warrior fighting’ to the country. “We want to bring back true warrior spirit to Japan. And we’re going to do that with BUSHIDO.FC,” announced Higashikuni. “Fighters from around the world will come to compete. They will come to fight. They will come to be the best.”

“We do not want to be in competition with ALPHA-1.” was what the Bushido Fighting Championships CEO had to say about whether they will compete with the Japanese MMA powerhouse of ALPHA-1. In fact, Higashikuni announced that he was a fan of the promotion, citing it as an ‘inspiration’ for the creation of BUSHIDO.FC.

The press conference then switched focus to the man that will act as president of the company: Scott Richards. An unknown entity in the fight game, Richards was known as a manager for several fighters who came from America to Japan. Confident, Richards told the Japanese press through a translator that he was confident that his inexperience would not play a part in the way he manages the day-to-day operations of the company.

When asked about the plans of Bushido Fighting Championships first event, Richards could not reveal any information about it just yet. In fact, he could only provide a date for it. “We would like to hold an event on the 31st of October this year. Hopefully, everything will go to plan.”

We here at Blurcat will have all the information on Bushido Fighting Championships as we get it.

BUSHIDO.FC PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES FIVE EVENTS

Stephen LaSalle – 25.8.98 – www.blurcat.com

Earlier this month, Bushido Fighting Championships opened up in Tokyo. Several weeks later, the president of the organisation has announced the first five events.

“Before we can start, we need champions. The first few events will be one-night, eight-man tournaments to determine who will be our first champions,” said Scott Richards, who had taken the role of president in BUSHIDO.FC earlier this month. “We’ll start off with the lightweights, then move on to the light heavyweights, then the middleweights, heavyweights, featherweights and welterweights. We’ve got this all planned out and it should work perfectly.

Notable names in these tournaments include American standout striker Brian Claremont (4-1, 0-0 BUSHIDO.FC), former amateur wrestler Kadonomaro Deguchi (3-0, 0-0 BUSHIDO.FC), kickboxing phenom Kei Maki (4-0, 0-0 BUSHIDO.FC) and Chinese fighter Pai Cheng (4-0, 0-0 BUSHIDO.FC). There are many other fighters from various countries competing in these tournaments, but the promotion will apparently organise ‘superfights’ between fighters not involved in the tournament.
